The Haunted Wedding Dress
Although most people associate hauntings with buildings spirits can also attach to objects. In past posts I wrote about: Haunted Mirrors, a Haunted Doll called Annabelle, a haunted portrait at Shirley Plantation and recently, The Scorched Bed.
In 1849, Anna Baker was the third child of a wealthy family who lived in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She had the misfortune to fall in love with a worker without means. Her father Elias Baker, who made his fortune as an ironmaster refused to give his consent for the two to marry. He then used his power and influence to have this man kicked out of Altoona.
Anna angry refused to marry anyone else. As the years passed she became a bitter old maid. When she died in 1914 she was still living in the family home.
Before her father’s refusal, in happier times Anna had picked out a beautiful wedding gown that she intended to wear at her wedding. Within the year another Altoona debutante, Elizabeth Dysart then bought this gown. She gloated for she knew Anna had hoped to wear it.
Years later this wedding dress was given to the Blair County Historical Society who eventually donated it to a local museum. This museum is housed in what was once the Baker home.
This wedding gown is displayed in a large glass case in a second floor room that once was the dressing room off Anna Baker’s bedroom.
Witnesses have seen this dress move of its own accord--especially during full moons.
This gown has been seen swaying from side to side. One witness stated it is as if a bride is holding this gown out in front of them as they admire it in a mirror.
The dress also has been seen shaking violently to the point where staff feared the glass case would shatter harming the dress.
Investigators have searched for a draft in this room or any other possible cause but nothing has been found to explain why this dress moves.
Some feel this dress moves because Anna Baker has just reclaimed what was supposed to be hers.

Hey, everyone.
In 2022, I wrote and illustrated a short comic book which I published and sold copies of at that year’s MICE. Entitled Adyton, it was a brief exploration of what I'd very loosely call the close encounter phenomenon, with an emphasis on the abduction aspect. Since then, I’ve wanted to expand on the book; but, as is usual for me, I have to ruminate on something for a long while until embarking on the project feels right. This recently happened, and I’ve decided to entitle what I intend to be my first complete and long-form graphic novel Can You See Behind the Moon? I’m not going to say where the title comes from, and will leave it to those who are more familiar with some of the paranormal literature to recognize its origin.
Over the years, I’ve made sputtering attempts at other graphic novels, but the lack of a clear narrative direction for one doomed it to oblivion (Underbrickers), while the creative momentum of the other seemed bound to a very particular timeframe (Grim Synergy). Differently, I see this project as encompassing ideas which, to varying degrees, are present within my mind every day, or every other day, and I do think it can be sustained by that persistence. If I were forced to speak in very general and perhaps reductive terms about Can You See Behind the Moon?, it is my attempt to explore possibilities implied by close encounters in a way which emphasizes a deep and occulted relationship humanity appears to have with itself, the cosmos, and what one might term the evolutionary impulse.
The first four pages you see here (not counting the cover) are recreations of Adyton’s first six pages. As should be apparent, the narrative is not linear. Like Adyton, the plot sometimes progresses according to visual resonances which can also be interpreted as conceptual resonances. For instance, the as-yet-unnamed young man’s finger-gun gesture becomes the transitional point for a reference to the so-called Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, wherein guns figured prominently, and unusually.
To be clear, this work has been done very quickly, in the interest of submitting it to relevant publishers as proof-of-concept material, and so that I’m able to maintain a pace of a couple of pages every two or three days (while also producing “fine art” for gallery shows, to say nothing of various other side projects). But I also like the roughness of the drawings, and the color of the newsprint paper… so, the making of these has also carried with it pleasure and occasional surprise at the results. Since I’ve decided to work within a limited palette, I’m relying heavily upon the linework.
For Christmas last year, my partner — somewhat regretfully — got me a comic book about UFOs published the same year by Dark Horse. I write “somewhat regretfully” because she didn’t really like the look of it; and when I received it I had to agree: the art is so simplistic, mundane, and ugly that I don’t think I’ll ever do more than skim some of the pages (the author also seems to have only done the bare minimum of research regarding Betty and Barney Hill’s case). But I’ve used the book as a point of motivation: surely, if something that bland could get green-lit by a fairly well-known comics publisher, then my work stands a chance.
Another one of my particularities is that I tend to get through projects more quickly when I don’t assign their completion an arbitrary date, and also when I don’t make myself beholden to publicizing all of the progress. I don’t intend on making a Kickstarter or anything for this — unless it becomes necessary — so I’m not sure when I’ll be prepared to share more. But, the time will come.
Anyway — even if there’s not much here yet, thanks for looking!

hey guys! hayle here, one of two admins on this blog! so i'm in the editing phase of a mahito x m!reader fic involving the yawata no yabushirazu forest in ichikawa, japan, s i thought i'd make a little post including some research i've done, as well as some information regarding some of the devices mahito and reader use to communicate with the spirits in the forest they're in. read up, and feel free to reblog this to spread the info to friends!
the yawata no yabushirazu forest, commonly shortened to "yawata forest," or "the forbidden forest," ichikawa is a sizeable and fairly developed city just outside tokyo, less than half an hour away, with an estimated population of 500,000 people. ichikawa lies in the western kiba chen prefecture of east-central honshu, japan. ichikawa is located along the edo river, and across the river borders tokyo to the west, and is also located just northwest of funabashi.
the yawata forest is home to many spiritual legends, many of which are the primary reason the forest was given its name. one fairly prevalent theory about the yawata forest is that it's involved with taira no masakado, who the japanese label to be the first samurai.
another largely effective reason the forest is so famous is because of the large expanse of trees' funny little habit of whisking people away to never be seen again, which leads me to a comment mahito makes in the story: " 'did you know that this forest is part of what inspired spirited away? the studio ghibli movie?' mahito says softly, grinning."
mahito was correct in making this comment; a considerably large piece of the inspiration for studio ghibli's animated movie spirited away was the yawata forest's silly little habit of, essentially, repeated mass kidnapping.
the story in question involves some moderately heavy paranormal content, a large part of which consists of mahito and reader using some paranormal investigation devices such as the ovilus, the spirit box, the electromagnetic field (emf) reader, and more. now don't mind me while i explain the main uses of each device that appears in the story.
the ovilus - the ovilus is a communication device invented in god knows when by bill chappel. the device used by professional and amateur/just-for-fun explorers and ghost hunters in paranormal investigations. the device works by detecting electromagnetic energy- which may appear in the form of, for example, voices that living ears can't detect- then assigning a number to it that corresponds with a word in the dictionary. spirits and other entities (ie: demons, poltergeists) use the ovilus to attempt conversations with the living people who are operating the device. some alternatives to the ovilus that operate similarly are the spirit box, the hexcom, and the polterscript.
the estes method - the estes method is a method of interworld communication used by some of the more daring explorers and ghost hunters. the method was created by karl pfeiffer during his investigation of the stanley hotel in estes park, colorado, and is now a widely popular method of communication that many people use. the method requires two or more people in order for the attempt(s) to work, and it involves one- sometimes two, as seen in some of sam and colby's videos- people putting on noise-cancelling headphones that are connected to a spirit box. the person(s) wearing the headphones are also blindfolded. the other member(s) of the group ask the spirits questions and attempt general conversations with the spirits in the room or area, and the spirits or entities may choose to or not to use the spirit box to speak into the headphones, sometimes in response to questions asked by the living side of the conversation, and the wearer(s) of the headphones and blindfold repeat every word they hear. the estes method is very effective, and many questions asked receive an answer, but sometimes the words they spirits say are random, and sometimes they're unsolicited tid bits of information corresponding to the spirit's death, their opinions, their goals, etc.
the séance method - the séance method is another common communication method used by explorers and paranormal investigators. this method is sort of similar to the estes method, but this one fortunately doesn't involve cutting off people's two most important senses. the seance method involves setting candles in a circle on a table or floor and lighting them, and it's not uncommon for people to put cups of water and relevant objects inside the circle and surround the circle of candles and/or sometimes the area directly around them with a line of salt as an attempt to keep potential poltergeists and malevolent spirits at bay of physical contact; most people don't want to be scratched and burned by demons posing as little girls with depressing death stories. the séance method has been used many times in historically famous attempts at conversation with spirits, demons, poltergeists, etc., and seems to have a lightly sporadic rate of failure versus success in comparison to the estes method, which almost always works, whether it's just the spirit box spewing shit or an actual spirit.

"The New Revelation: Arthur Conan Doyle's Visionary Quest into the Mysteries of the Beyond"
Tumblr media
In "The New Revelation," Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, best known for his iconic detective tales, takes an audacious leap into the realm of the supernatural and spiritual exploration. Published in 1918, amidst the backdrop of World War I, Doyle's departure from the familiar terrain of Sherlock Holmes marks a profound shift in his literary endeavors. The narrative unfolds as a thought-provoking treatise on spiritualism, where Doyle invites readers on a journey beyond the veil of the tangible world. This visionary work is an earnest attempt to reconcile the mysteries of life, death, and the existence of an afterlife.
The author presents a compelling case for the existence of a new revelation, one that transcends traditional religious doctrines and offers a glimpse into the metaphysical. Drawing on personal experiences, anecdotes, and an array of paranormal phenomena, Doyle weaves a narrative that challenges conventional skepticism and beckons readers to consider the possibility of a divine connection. His exploration into automatic writing, mediumship, and encounters with spirits propels the reader into a realm where the boundaries between the corporeal and the ethereal blur.
Doyle's prose is impassioned, and his sincerity in grappling with profound existential questions is palpable. He engages with the subject matter not as a detached observer but as a seeker of truth, infusing the text with a sense of urgency and conviction. The narrative is not without its controversies, as Doyle confronts skepticism and critics head-on, defending his belief in spiritualism with unwavering resolve.
"The New Revelation" serves as a captivating intersection of spirituality, philosophy, and the unexplored corners of the human psyche. While the work may not be embraced universally, its impact lies in its ability to spark introspection and foster a dialogue about the mysteries that continue to elude our comprehension. Whether one approaches this text as a believer or a skeptic, Doyle's venture into the metaphysical is undeniably a testament to the versatility and intellectual curiosity of one of literature's most celebrated minds.
In conclusion, "The New Revelation" stands as a bold departure from the detective fiction that defined Arthur Conan Doyle's career. This foray into the unknown provides readers with a unique perspective on spirituality, challenging preconceived notions and beckoning them to contemplate the enigmatic aspects of existence. Doyle's exploration of the supernatural serves as a testament to the boundless curiosity of the human spirit and its ceaseless quest for understanding in the face of life's greatest mysteries.
"The New Revelation," by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is available in Amazon in paperback 10.99$ and hardcover 17.99$ editions.

Dingess Tunnel
Hidden deep within the coal filled Appalachian Mountains of Southern West Virginia rests a forgotten land that is older than time itself. Its valleys are deep, its waters polluted and its terrain is as rough as the rugged men and women who have occupied these centuries old plats for thousands of years.
The region is known as “Bloody Mingo” and for decades the area has been regarded as one of the most murderous areas in all of American history.
The haunted mountains of this territory have been the stage of blood baths too numerous to number, including those of the famed Hatfield’s and McCoy’s, Matewan Massacre and the Battle of Blair Mountain. Even the county’s sheriff was murdered this past spring, while eating lunch in his vehicle.
Tucked away in a dark corner of this remote area is an even greater anomaly – a town, whose primary entrance is a deserted one lane train tunnel nearly 4/5 of a mile long.
The story of this town’s unique entrance dates back nearly a century and a half ago, back to an era when coal mining in West Virginia was first becoming profitable.
For generations, the people of what is now Mingo County, West Virginia, had lived quiet and peaceable lives, enjoying the fruits of the land, living secluded within the tall and unforgiving mountains surrounding them.
All of this changed, however, with the industrial revolution, as the demand for coal soared to record highs.
Soon outside capital began flowing into “Bloody Mingo” and within a decade railroads had linked the previously isolated communities of southern West Virginia to the outside world.
The most notorious of these new railways was Norfolk & Western’s line between Lenore and Wayne County – a railroad that split through the hazardous and lawless region known as “Twelve Pole Creek.”
At the heart of Twelve Pole Creek, railroad workers forged a 3,300 foot long railroad tunnel just south of the community of Dingess.
As new mines began to open, destitute families poured into Mingo County in search of labor in the coal mines. Among the population of workers were large numbers of both African-Americans and Chinese emigrants.
Despising outsiders, and particularly the thought of dark skinned people moving into what had long been viewed as a region exclusively all their own, residents of Dingess, West Virginia, are said to have hid along the hillsides just outside of the tunnel’s entrance, shooting any dark skinned travelers riding aboard the train.
Though no official numbers were ever kept, it has been estimated that hundreds of black and Chinese workers were killed at the entrance and exits of this tunnel.
Norfolk & Western soon afterward abandonment the Twelve Pole line. Within months two forces of workmen began removing the tracks, ties, and accessory facilities.

Diary of a maniac the path to immortality.
(Prologue)
Tumblr media
March 17 2003, time 23:44 at night
* Several police cars were parked near a small house outside the city, several policemen got out of the car, approached the old house and knocked, no one answered them, after a while they broke down the door and went inside, a man in a raincoat followed them, taking off his cap, he looked around carefully, the house was dark, and there was only the light of lanterns, they illuminated the stairs and the corridor that led to the kitchen, there was dust in the air and, apparently, the owner had not been here for a long time, the policeman knew whose house it was, so they began to search all the rooms in search of valuable information or th*
Policeman: there is something here, there is a space behind the wall, drag the sledgehammer.
* They bring a sledgehammer, then the policeman immediately picks it up and starts breaking the wall, the others collected evidence, personal belongings, documents, fingerprints, clothes, the policeman shone a flashlight into an empty space in the wall, but found only a gold badge and an old photo, a man in a raincoat walked around the house a little, found a hidden the place behind the cabinet, when it was removed, they saw a small secret door, and, fortunately, they managed to crack it quickly enough*
Man: there seems to be something here * he reaches out and takes out something wrapped in several layers of cloth, it looks like a book *
Policeman: could this be something useful for our investigation?
Man: Yes, of course, I think that's exactly what we're looking for.
* Slowly and carefully, he unfolded this stack of cloth and took out a book that didn't look old, but was big and thick enough, the man thought for a while, then opened one page and quickly scanned it with his eyes, and then froze*
Policeman: Mr. Schmidt, you all right?
*The policeman looked at him and shone the light and looked at this book himself*
Mike: yes, I'm fine and this is what I was talking about, here's the evidence
*Schmidt squeezed it in his hands, he realized that this is not just a book, but a real diary of Vincent Bishop and there is information here that will answer many questions*
* After examining several more rooms for the presence of things useful for the investigation, the police left the house, Mike was standing at the exit, holding this diary in his hands, the information here will shed light on all the horrors that were happening in the pizzeria all this time, sighing, a former security guard from the now closed chain of pizzerias left the house and headed to the police station in the car, the rain increased, as did Schmidt's own anxiety, he didn't want to read these notes, but it looks like he'll have to do it for the investigation, and then God knows what kind of creepy guy he was.he took one last look at the killer's house before getting into the car, the policeman brought him out of his trance * policeman: We've looked around, there's nothing else useful here, get in the car, Mr. Schmidt.
*Mike nodded silently, put the diary in the back seat, quickly got into the police car, and after a few minutes they left this gloomy place*
March 18, time 3:26 am
* Mike came into the room and put a few cups of black coffee without additives, that evening he met a man named Alfred, he is over 30 years old, but he looks good, a fit and well-educated man with a deep look, who has worked all his life in the local police department., they studied the diary of a maniac together Alfred immediately stressed that these were not just notes, but something more and sinister, Mike agreed with him, because he remembered Vincent and knew that this man was unremarkable on the outside, but inside he was still a monster, his diary was difficult to read. the handwriting was strange, it could be made out, but it was difficult to understand.some sentences had no logical connection and were just a set of different words or emotions that the killer was experiencing at that moment, Alfred turned to Mike and took a small sip*
Alfred: this is definitely a unique experience in my work, you don't often see such recordings.
Mike: this is probably his personal diary, there are a lot of personal things here, but not everything I can make out.
Alfred: not everything here is logically connected, it looks like the recordings of a mentally ill person, he often jumps from one topic to another, the mood is constantly changing, I think the further, the scarier.
* Grinned *
Mike: oh, yes, I saw what was next, quickly ran my eyes through the pages when I was still in the house, you're damn right.
*Alfred was really right, the further they read, the more creepy the text became, given that Vincent was a security guard at a children's pizzeria, this scares even more *
Altfred: Mike, I have a question for you, did you know Bishop, so tell me what kind of person he is?
Mike: Okay, then listen carefully, our paths crossed several times, sometimes I saw him during the day, less often at night, and you know, animatronics became more aggressive if they saw him, as for him as a person, he was secretive and quiet, he smoked a lot, I remember it well.
Alfred: Well, I think it might help us a little.
* Alfred continued to study the diary with Mike, with each page he noticed how the text became darker and crazier, this already hinted at what the maniac was experiencing and how he was going crazy, if the first pages are still somehow distinguishable, then the last ones are some kind of nonsense*
Alfred: I think I should take a break, we still have time, so I think I'll go home.
Mike: Okay, then I'll keep reading, maybe I'll find something.
Alfred: Well, good night then, Schmidt, take care of yourself.
* Mike was a little strained by this phrase, Alfred got dressed and left, saying goodbye, Mike stood by the window for a few minutes, sat down at the table again and opened everything from the first page, now he is alone with himself and his thoughts and no one will stop him from finding the truth*
Well, the prologue is over, now I can describe everything that was in this diary, I WARN you, these entries really look like the ravings of a madman, and that's right, Vincent Bishop is a crazy maniac with an interesting idea.

In the last few years, a growing lore has accumulated around a new type of unwelcome visitor. Since Kenneth Arnold spotted some strange disks flapping around over Mt. Rainier in 1947, ushering in the modern era of UFOs, many UFO witnesses and contactees have received unsolicited visits from official-looking men dressed in, you got it, black. They usually come in a trio. Their black suits might be from Brooks Brothers. They arrive in long, sleek black Cadillacs or Chryslers, Sometimes they wear funny black shoes with thick gummy soles. They claim to be from the air force or from other intelligence agencies. Sometimes they even pose as traveling salesmen. Whatever. One thing's certain, they're not in your Welcome Wagon area. Black ain't beautiful, especially when they're threatening your life. 1980
