Apparently there’s a load of butthurt man-babies complaining that you can’t choose your gender in this open world Star Wars RPG, and yet I don’t remember anyone complaining about that when Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3 came out. Gee, I wonder why… 🙄

Kind of obsessed with The Ghoul in Fallout (2024). Walton Goggins is honestly just so excellent in every scene, he really sells it, but there's something to how that character is WRITTEN, y'know? Like, we get this really strong juxtaposition of his character before the war and his character after, and some revelations later in the show even further recontextualize some of that.
Pre-war, he's kinda this pastiche of the John Wayne/Clint Eastwood type Western star, famous for his cowboy roles. He has some gripes with how his characters are being written early on (for example, being made uncharacteristically violent and having reactionary anti-communist rhetoric injected into his dialogue), but he goes along with it because there's all this mccarthyism about and he doesn't want people thinking he's a communist sympathizer.
POST WAR, he's leaned HARD into the cowboy thing, he's cold, he's merciless, he's willing to kill children in front of their parents to prove a point. He's become the hyper violent, macho, western anti hero that he was critical of before. It's like, he's cast into this insane world where everyone is fighting for survival, and Cooper Howard has no footing in that world, but that anti-hero? That cowboy persona? The outlaw, the outlaw has a place here. So, that's what he becomes. The Ghoul. It's a performance, really. Cooper has to become this mythic cowboy gunslinger archetype to survive, embody the characters he used to play on the screen.
I know this is really surface level stuff but it's so so interesting to me. I really hope season 2 gets to pick away at this shell he's built around himself, maybe as he gets closer to Lucy and we start to see more of the man he used to be peaking through.

She's fantastic as the soft but tough captain of the outlaw band and she looks stunning in every gown she wears throughout the film. Happy 89th birthday to Nancy Kovack!
Kovack played the female lead, bad girl Sophie Renault, opposite Mike Henry in “Tarzan and the Valley of Gold” (1966).
Born Nancy Diane Kovach on March 11, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, she attended the University of Michigan and worked as a radio announcer while winning a series of beauty contests. Kovack then moved to New York, where she worked as one of Jackie Gleason’s “Glea Girls” and served as a presenter on “Beat the Clock”, and as an anchorwoman on “Today” and for “The Dave Garroway Show”, while earning extra money through modeling and commercials.
A role on Broadway in “The Disenchanted” (1958-59) led to a Columbia Pictures contract, and her film debut, “Strangers When We Meet” (1960). Additional big-screen credits include “Cry for Happy” (1960), “The Wild Westerners” (1962), “Diary of a Madman” (1963), “Jason and the Argonauts” (1963), “The Outlaws Is Coming” (1965), “Sylvia” (1965), “The Great Sioux Massacre” (1965), “Frankie and Johnny” (1966), “The Silencers” (1966), “Enter Laughing” (1967), and “Marooned” (1969). Happy Birthday to the actor Tony Curran born 13th December 1969 in Glasgow.
Tony took to acting while still in his teens, he recalls the days in the Scottish Youth Theatre with Gerard Butler. Young Anthony Curran went on to attend the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before gaining notoriety with a prominent role on the BBC series This Life. He would go on to make a name for himself in movies with a sci-fi/fantasy bent, like The 13th Warrior, Blade II, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Beowulf, of his small screen credits, our old favourite Taggart returns after not appearing on Kenneth Cranham’s CV yesterday!
Curran has made a name for himself in over the Atlantic in a number of US shows which include, Numb3rs, Medium, 24, Sons of Anarchy and Elementary. His most notable appearances over here have been in the ITV series Ultimate Force, Dr Who, as Vincent van Gogh , and more recently in the E4/Netflix original series Crazyhead.
Tony appeared in the 2018 Netflix film Outlaw King about Robert the Bruce and the Wars of Scottish Independence, where he played the part of Aonghus Óg of Islay, ( Angus Macdonald) chief of Clann Domhnaill. Back over in the states he has recently been in Ray Donovan, which is a great series series and few episodes of the CBS show SEAL Team. He also turned up in the mini series, Your Honor, which also stars the excellent US actor Brian Cranston of Breaking Bad fame, it’s great hearing Scottish accents in US shows, don’t you think?
Tony is another guy I follow on twitter, the guy has a heart of gold, I remember he tweeted “Me and my lass woke up this morning temperatures dropping compelled to help our homeless, loaded up some blankets pillows clothes, sweaters jackets, I’m sure we all have stuff we can donate, it all helps.” He was then out on the streets handing them out to the homeless, Tony was involved in a charity weekender with all funds raised going to St Mary’s & St Alphonsus and the great community work they do. He has in the past played charity football matches in Glasgow.
In the past couple of years Tony has been playing Despero in the Super Hero series The Flash, Tony has also appeared in the US movie, Two Deaths of Henry Baker where he plays a town Sheriff, this year he appeared in the US crime series The Calling, the show has some good reviews on IMDB with a 7.1/10 rating, and in an episode of the US show For All Mankind
Last year Tony appeared in a homegrown project. The two part “series”, Mayflies is set in a Scotland and Manchester in the 80′s Martin Compston co-stars along with new Shetland star Ashley Jensen, it is on BBC1 on December 28th. The show is based on a novel by Scottish author Andrew O'Hagan's book of the same name. It tells the story of Jimmy (Compston) and Tully (Curran) who ignite an “unforgettable friendship” defined by music, films and their shared rebellious spirit in a small Scottish town in the 1980s. if you haven't seen it, please look it up, and keep the hankies close by.
In the past couple of years Tony has appeared in a couple of US series, an unexpected second season of Your Honor and Secret Invasion.
On fame Tony commented;
"I've been lucky. I don't for a minute take for granted the good fortune I have had. You don't like to get ideas above your station, especially a boy from the south side of Glasgow."

seven sentence sunday but once again, who's actually counting?
gonna be honest with y'all, i still have no idea what this fic really is, but i'm having a good time writing it!
“Where’s…Big Bend National Park?” Henry asks out of nowhere.
It’s enough for Alex to pull his attention from the stars. “Um, like six hours west of here. I didn’t even know you knew what that was. Why?”
Henry shrugs. “Sheer curiosity.”
“It’s never just curiosity with you. There’s usually some meaning behind it.” Alex sits up. “What’s important about Big Bend?”
“A lot of westerns were filmed there,” he tells him.
“Oh yeah? I never knew that.”
But then it takes less than a second for it to hit him: the tight-lipped smile, the soft hum of a short laugh, the way Henry angles his head briefly before looking down at his lap, fingers drumming against the neck of the wine bottle.
“Your dad filmed something there.”
“One of his first big roles,” Henry begins, “a few years before he and my mum met and he had his Bond run. It’s less famous than them, obviously, but I’d argue it was just as good.”
“What’s it called?”
“All For the Autumn Son.”
“I’ve never seen it,” Alex tells him softly. “What’s it about?”
“Oh, the usual; outlaws and bandits, heists, a corrupt and cornered sheriff. He makes a deal with a group to free their bookkeeper from prison, only to be killed before they overrun the town and take it hostage. Then this lone wolf type comes into play and drums up a plan to save everyone, there’s romance and a routine ride into the sunset.” 
“Who did your dad play?”
“The hero.” At this, Henry smiles, chin titled up toward the sky. He looks so proud, and Alex has never been as sad as he is at this moment that he was never able to meet Arthur Fox. “It really is cheesy and Dad’s accent is…something else.” Henry laughs, and it’s a little more genuine this time. “I mean, it works, but it’s odd to hear when I’m so used to his voice, you know? But for all it’s worth, it’s brilliant.”
“Is it your favorite?”
Henry pauses for a moment. “Yeah.” Another pause. “It’s weird that any time I want to see or hear my father, all I have to do is turn on the telly. Literally the whole world knows him as this action hero, but he was so much more than that. They know one side of him — the actor side — and this might be hard to understand, but everyone gets to see him and there’s no sanctity in it.” Henry glances over at Alex, and even in the dim orange light of the fire, he can make out the emotion in his eyes. “He was world-renowned, beloved, it’s not like he was some random man from Cardiff. Everyone knew him, but not everyone knew him. They can miss him, but not like all of us do. He was our dad, and yet sometimes it feels like he doesn’t belong to us. Which is a whole convoluted thing with how my entire life has been; it belongs to the Crown, it belongs to England.”
It’s then that Henry releases a hefty breath and lowers himself down onto the grass, he and Alex swapping positions. Alex just watches.
“Maybe that’s why I love his lesser-known movies more, because less people have seen them, even if it’s only by a marginal amount. It makes it feel…more, I don’t know, personal.”
Henry’s right, Alex never is going to understand it. He’s lucky enough not to know what it’s like to lose a parent that young. And the thing is, until Henry, Alex never even thought to consider himself lucky about it. But there’s a whole other level of appreciation he has now, one he hopes he never neglects.
“Maybe I drank too much today,” Henry says mildly, sitting up again and shaking the bottle. There’s a little under a quarter of the wine left. “Getting all emotional.”
“No.” Alex scoots in closer, rubbing circles on his back. He’s warm through his shirt. “No, baby. It’s okay. Don’t minimize it.”
He watches as Henry goes to say something, but closes his mouth. “I—thank you, Alex.”
“What for?”
“Always listening.”
Alex could melt. “It’s the easiest thing in the world.”

if I had a nickel every time an episode in Ace Attorney involves a murder orchestrated by a pair of partners-in-crime where:
the one who wanted the victim dead and who's calling the shots is the yang-esque partner, an orange/red-coloured and explicitly cat-coded villain antagonist man with a misleadingly nice title/nickname/slogan ("tender"; "refreshing" etc) that doesn't suit his real nature + a bright conspicuous motorbike that is currently out of use, whose main thing is acting i.e. playing different characters & roles, and is able to fool many around him with his act, who is the primary antagonist or "real" bad guy in the episode narratively and,
the one who was enlisted by the cat-coded biker to help with the murder is the yin-esque partner, a black/white-coloured character with an ostentatious visible sign of past injury on their head and an eerie aura designated to invoke fear & creepiness from the moment they appear on screen, who consistently makes it sound as if they might kill you or someone else any second when they speak, but is ultimately treated as less antagonistic/more sympathetic than cat biker by the narrative.
and
cat biker stars as the leading role of their murderous two-man act, while the scary accomplice plays a supporting role in the background costumed in the uniform of the service job (e.g. maid, butler, waitress, bellboy) they're disguising themselves in.
despite serving the cat biker, scary accomplice is actually far more powerful in reality and both of them know it. scary accomplice's last name is infamously powerful in the criminal underworld and strikes terror into people's hearts; when brought up to the law enforcement for the first time, the player is told that other outlaws fear them and the police can't reach them.
cat biker acts tough and intimidating with the rogue face he puts on but he's actually a coward absolutely terrified of scary accomplice's actual power, because he knows the only reason they hasn't got him dead yet is that he is still on the accomplice's good side and they trust him.
and
the duo carries out the murder according to cat biker's wish but they're unsatisfied without making sure biker never gets convicted, so they decide to take a step further and mess with the lawyering as well. so they target phoenix wright personally, which eventually becomes their undoing because it just pushes him to find out the truth even more.
moreover, phoenix hates betrayal personally, and during his search he finds out that cat biker has been deceiving scary accomplice all along, despite scary accomplice's strong devotion to and forceful dedication to trusting cat biker. cat biker also even expresses his contempt toward them for this foolish trust behind them
phoenix breaks the truth about this betrayal to scary accomplice but couldn't get through until he provides evidence with the correct explanation, because accomplice has wanted to trust cat biker. after phoenix gets the truth through, scary accomplice completely turns against cat biker and wants him punished, which eventually helps phoenix gets him convicted and jailed with the help of unconventional methods
...I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but,
did you know that AA2: Justice for All was originally going to have 5 episodes, and Recipe for Turnabout was supposed to be 2-4 while Farewell, My Turnabout was originally meant to be 2-5, before they ran out of space and switched Recipe for Turnabout out for AA3 instead?
which means if it went as planned, Recipe for Turnabout would've been right before Farewell, My Turnabout. I wonder if that means this parallel could actually have been not completely unintentional?
anyway it's hilarious to me to think that Farewell, My Turnabout (the Engarde & De Killer case) would've been exactly one case after Recipe for Turnabout (the Tigre & Viola case) and exactly one case before the Dahlia & Phoenix case (Dahlia is a villain tied to the theme of deceit + comparable to Matt, while Phoenix is all about trust and trusting your clients + foils Shelly). fellas is it gay to strongly parallel not one, but multiple doomed godawful dysfunctional canonical m/f romances thematically

Ever heard of a woman being a bounty hunter? No? Well now you have! You can call me Yelena. I'm from Russia, I escaped a place called 'Red Room' in 1896. A terrible place, a place where women are kept against their will and forced to do unspeakable things. Now those women are free and Dreykov is dead, killing him with my own hands is a story that travels the country and more. I have an older sister, Natasha. She runs an orphan up in Drybellow, she does everything for all the young girls that call her ranch home. 
After killing Dreykov and finding Natasha again, I found I couldn't keep still. I needed to do something, to do more good for the bad I was made to do, which is how I became a bounty hunter. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people still laugh at the idea of a woman riding around on a horse with a rifle and loves being out in the open space under the stars. I get a rush from hunting outlaws and bringing them to justice. I've delivered more outlaws alive than I have delivered them dead, I get more money if they're alive. Anything from $40-600 alive, $20-300 dead. 
Most outlaws take a few days to a few weeks to track down and deliver to the sheriff's office and by the time one outlaw has been brought to justice there is almost always another poster pinned to the board then I'm off again tracking down another. Now, before you say that because I am a woman, that I am to become a housewife. Clean the homestead, prepare meals for my husband to return from work, attend to his needs and make small talk with the other housewives within the town….I am already carrying a secret that will get me hung and I cannot bring myself to play the role of a woman that is simply not me. 
I guess as much as I despise Red Room, I have a lot to thank Dreykov for. The skills I have to do what I do came from that. I know how to silently take out gang members without their leader knowing a single thing, I know how to track a gang for days without the help of asking passing travelers, I know how to use many weapons and melee weapons, I know which herbs to use if I fall sick, how to hunt animals without causing major damage to their meat. Everything I know comes from Red Room but everything I am? That's all on me. 
I have traveled to more places than I can count, I even broke my father, Alexei, out of a Russian prison with Natasha before we came to the States. If there is anything you truly need to know about me it's that, I will always do what I feel is best. I stand up for what I believe in, and God help you if you get in my way.

We don’t know yet exactly when this TV series will land on our screens (other than sometime in autumn), but what we do have is enough details to convince you to add The Couple Next Door to your ‘ooh, I’ll definitely tune into that’ list for future reference. What is The Couple Next Door about?
The Couple Next Door is a dark psychological drama that’s all about desire.
When Evie and Pete move into a fancy new neighbourhood, they’re surrounded by gossip, anxiety and curtain twitching. But thankfully they find some pals to help them navigate their environment: the couple next door (like the title of the show, get it?), traffic cop Danny and his wife, Becka, a glamorous yoga instructor.
The two couples get closer together, then… something happens. As the show’s description says: “One fateful night, [they] become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever.”
Who stars in The Couple Next Door?
We’ve got some great names playing the pair of couples. Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark, The Outlaws) plays Evie, and Alfred Enoch (Tigers, How To Get Away With Murder) is her husband, Pete. The couple next door are played by Sam Heughan (Outlander, Suspect) and Jessica De Gouw (Pennyworth, Our Man From Jersey).
What are people saying about The Couple Next Door?
The show is described as “a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your deepest desires”. Sounds fun to us.
And Caroline Hollick, head of drama at Channel 4 declared the series “an addictive, emotional roller-coaster with something to say about modern sexual mores, with an electrifying cast that will set our screens on fire”.
Of playing lead role Evie, Eleanor Tomlinson said: “Evie is an exciting challenge for me – a girl whose world is turned upside down as she navigates devastating trauma, which isn’t helped by unresolved issues from her past. We have an excellent team on board, and I am looking forward to exploring this dark and complicated world alongside Sam and our director Dries.”

No word yet on an exact release date, but we do know The Couple Next Door will be out at some point this autumn. The series will premiere on Channel 4 in the UK and will be available on Starz in the US and Canada, as well as Lionsgate+ in Latin America, including Brazil.

Yo!!! Y'know that one character sheet of puppycat and his crew as the space outlaws? Yea I tried to recreate that with this silly gang.
I'm personally quite happy with how these designs turned out (though Tripitaka is still Tripitaka but just small-) I added cloud buttons to the hanfu and like shoulder paldrons or something to make it look more like a captain's coat.
I also noticed the moon and stars motif on puppycat and decided to replace that with suns and clouds. Including the ring. I hope the scarf looks cool and not too dorky.
With Macaque, I pretty much just took off his sleeves shoes and put clouds on his pants as well as the lantern around his belt. His six ears are a nice substitute for Violet's wings though
The flowers are inspired after peach blossoms and warmer colour scheme like wukong's. (I also noticed the yellow outlines on the original flowers so I gave these a blue outline)
So yeah, Tripitaka is now the smart inventor kid of the crew and in this au he and Mac get on quite well. I imagine he's a combo of a tech genius and also like magic genius I guess? Explains how he made MK anyway...
Oh yeah! He also plays the role of Mk's dad here with his magic juju and stuff...
I know there's a small cat and fish guy on the og crew but I can't really think of anyone who can fit their roles so maybe three is best
please feel free to ask me or @cats-and-confusion about this silly au! I'm having way to much fun with it and have lots of ideas and pictures lined up in the future!

Abigail Lawrie interview with David Craig for Radio Times, 23.05.2023
Good Omens season 2 star Abigail Lawrie has revealed more about her experience working on the hit Neil Gaiman drama, adding to the already feverish anticipation for the upcoming episodes.
The show features David Tennant's demonic Crowley and Michael Sheen's angelic Aziraphale, an odd couple brought together by their mutual ambition to prevent armageddon.
Based on the novel by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, the series was a runaway hit, with fans demanding it continue – a campaign that Prime Video eventually conceded to.
Lawrie will make her Good Omens debut in the second season, reportedly playing a Victorian gravedigger named Elspeth, and told RadioTimes.com she "absolutely loved" the job.
"It was such a mad, amazing experience," said Lawrie. "We shot it in Scotland and I got to work with Michael Sheen and David Tennant, obviously, who were just amazing and so lovely and so funny. A lot of the stuff that I did was funny."
She continued: "And Douglas [Mackinnon], who directs it... is just the most intelligent, fascinating man and he knows that universe so well, inside out. And so it was just amazing to work with him."
The actor currently stars in Paramount Plus tropical thriller No Escape, where she plays Lana, a young woman on the run halfway across the world with her best friend, Kitty (The Outlaws' Rhianne Barreto).
Lawrie added: "And the costumes were incredible. The sets were just vast and amazing. It was really like being immersed in a completely different universe. It was really cool."
Her involvement in Good Omens season 2 was confirmed by Gaiman himself on Twitter, in a post congratulating her for winning at the BAFTA Scotland 2021 ceremony for her role in Sky's Tin Star: Liverpool.
Alongside Tennant and Sheen, Good Omens season 2 also sees the return of Jon Hamm, Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya and Liz Carr among others, whilst Peter Davison, Andi Osho and Ty Tennant are just some of the new additions.

More from the Department of Star Trek Actors in Other Roles. Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley guest star in “Man of Violence,” episode 14 of the second season of THE VIRGINIAN (originl air date December 25, 1963). Nimoy has a small role as an outlaw, and Kelley plays the charming, hard-drinking Army doctor (typecasting!) who treats him when he’s wounded and captured. Consumed by guilt when he erroneously believes he’s responsible for his patient’s death, Kelly’s character goes AWOL in the dessert, has an adventure with star Doug McClure, and learns of his innocence from the deathbed confession of Nimoy’s accomplice. He really shines in this one.

1900 – (Charles William) Billy Haines (d.1973) was an American film actor and interior designer. He was a star of the silent era until the 1930s, when Haines' career was cut short by MGM Studios due to his refusal to deny his homosexuality. Haines never returned to film and instead started a successful interior design business with his life partner and was supported by friends in Hollywood.
Billy Haines was born in Staunton, Virginia. Haines ran away from home at the age of 14, accompanied by another unidentified young man whom Haines referred to as his "boyfriend". The pair went to Hopewell, which had a reputation for immorality. Haines and his boyfriend got jobs working at the local DuPont factory for $50 a week. To supplement their income, the couple opened a dance hall, which may have also served as a brothel. His parents, frantic over his disappearance, tracked him through the police to Hopewell. Haines did not return home with them, remaining instead in Hopewell and sending money back home to help support the family. The couple remained in Hopewell until most of the town was destroyed by fire in 1915. Haines moved to New York City settling into the burgeoning gay community of Greenwich Village. It is unclear whether his boyfriend accompanied him.
He worked a variety of jobs before becoming a model. Talent scout Bijou Fernandez discovered Haines as part of the Samuel Goldwyn Company's "New Faces of 1922" contest and the studio signed him to a $40 a week contract.
Haines's career began slowly, as he appeared in extra and bit parts, mostly uncredited. His first significant role was in Three Wise Fools (1923). However, he continued to play small, unimportant parts at Goldwyn. It was not until they loaned him to Fox in 1923 for The Desert Outlaw that he got the opportunity to play a significant role. In 1924, MGM lent Haines to Columbia Pictures for a five-picture deal. The first of these, The Midnight Express (1924), received excellent reviews and Columbia offered to buy his contract. The offer was refused and Haines continued in bit roles for Goldwyn.
On a trip to New York in 1926, Haines met James "Jimmie" Shields, probably as a pick-up on the street . Haines convinced Shields to move to Los Angeles, promising to get him work as an extra - some sources say Shields worked as Haines' "double' in his films. The pair were soon living together and viewed themselves as a committed couple.
In 1933, Haines was arrested in a YMCA with a sailor he had picked up in Los Angeles' Pershing Square. Louis B. Mayer, the studio head at MGM, delivered an ultimatum to Haines: choose between a sham marriage (also known as a "lavender marriage") or his relationship with Shields. Haines chose Shields and they remained together for almost 50 years. Mayer subsequently fired Haines and terminated his contract, quickly recasting Robert Montgomery in roles that had been planned for Haines. Haines did make a few minor films then retired from film.
Haines and Shields began a successful dual career as interior designers and antique dealers. Among their early clients were friends such as Joan Crawford, Gloria Swanson, Carole Lombard, Marion Davies and George Cukor. Their lives were disrupted in 1936 when members of the Ku Klux Klan dragged the two men from their home and beat them, because a neighbor had accused the two of propositioning his son. Crawford, along with other stars such as Claudette Colbert, George Burns, Gracie Allen, Kay Francis, and Charles Boyer urged the men to report this to the police. Marion Davies asked her lover William Randolph Hearst to use his influence to ensure the neighbors were prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but ultimately Haines and Shields chose not to report the incident.
Haines and Shields remained together for the rest of their lives. Joan Crawford described them as "the happiest married couple in Hollywood."
Haines died from lung cancer in Santa Monica, California at the age of 73, a week short of his 74th birthday, which was on the new year of 1974. Soon afterward, Shields, who suffered from what many believe to be Alzheimer's Disease, put on Haines' pajamas, took an overdose of pills, and crawled into their bed to die. They were interred side by side in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery.

1905 – Over the twentieth century, Sir Michael Tippett, (d.1998) a most unlikely composer and musician, progressed from being the great enigma of British classical music to being one of its most respected and influential figures. His visionary, idealistic humanism, which, while firmly grounded in the traditional, embraced contemporary and popular forms as well. Tippett was, in the words of his partner Meirion Bowen, an "unabashed homosexual," and he defied the social taboos of his time by incorporating homoerotic themes in his operas.
Michael Kemp Tippett was born in London, and raised in Surrey, where he lived most of his life. Unlike many composers, he was not a child prodigy, and, aside from piano lessons, he had little early involvement with music. In his teens, however, he attended concert performances of Beethoven's symphonies, and as a result of this experience he realized his desire to become a composer.
Consequently, he persuaded his parents to support his studies at the Royal College of Music, from which he graduated in 1928. For several years, he taught French in a preparatory school and conducted local musical ensembles. In 1940, he was appointed Director of Music at Morley College in London, a post he retained until 1951.
Although Tippett's early compositions had their first public performance in 1930, the work that brought him widespread recognition came a decade later. The oratorio A Child of Our Time (1939-1941) was inspired by Tippett's concern for the oppressed and his outrage over Nazi persecution of the Jews. The work is dedicated to Hershel Grynzpan, a gay Jewish youth who, in 1937, assassinated a Nazi official in a Paris club frequented by homosexuals, an act that the Nazis used as a pretext for the acts of anti-Semitic terror known as Kristallnacht. Tippett also wrote the libretto for this oratorio, as he would subsequently do for all his vocal compositions.
Aside from A Child of Our Time, he is perhaps best known, for his operas. Tippett's first opera, The Midsummer Marriage (1955), was first staged at Covent Garden with a young Joan Sutherland, then beginning her stellar career, in the lead role. Although the opera has endured the test of time, the plot at first bewildered audiences used to more traditional opera fare.
King Priam (1962) retells the ancient story of the siege of Troy and, in one scene, presents the homoerotic attachment between Achilles and Patroclus. More daring is The Knot Garden (1970), an examination of the dynamics of contemporary relationships. Among the main characters are Mel and Dov, an unambiguously gay, mixed-race couple.
Tippett's final major work was the opera New Year (1989), written by the octogenarian composer as a sort of postscript to his long career. In keeping with Tippett's ongoing interest in contemporary currents in music and culture, this late piece is perhaps the first opera to include a "rap" vocal.
Tippett was a lifelong humanist and pacifist who stood by his beliefs, even when they were out of step with the rest of society. In 1943, he was incarcerated for three months in London's notorious Wormwood Scrubs prison for refusing to do the civil defense duty expected of conscientious objectors; he responded to his conditions by organizing and conducting the prison orchestra.
Tippett was, moreover, openly gay at a time when male homosexual acts were criminal in Britain. Yet despite his "outlaw" history, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1966, made a Companion of Honour in 1979, and granted the Order of Merit in 1983. Tippett remained active through his eighties, and only declined at the very end of his life.
His autobiography, Those Twentieth Century Blues, was published in 1991. In November, 1997, while attending a retrospective celebration of his music in Stockholm, he was stricken with pneumonia. He died of the illness in his London home on January 8, 1998, days after his ninety-third birthday.

1918 – Clyde E. Martin (d.2014) was an American sexologist. He was an assistant to Alfred Kinsey on the Kinsey Reports and served as a co-author on Sexual Behavior in the Human Male and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female.
Martin commenced study in economics at Indiana University in 1937. Soon after in December 1938 Martin actively sought out Kinsey and gave Kinsey his sexual history. The pair formed a bond, and Kinsey offered the cash-strapped Martin work in his garden. From spring 1939, he was assisting Kinsey with tabulation of his sexual history surveys. In 1941 when funding for the project was received from the National Research Council, Martin became the first researcher hired by the project. In 1960 he resigned from the Institute for Sex Research to pursue his doctoral degree, receiving his Ph.D. (in social relations) from Johns Hopkins University in 1966. From 1966 until 1989, he conducted research, specializing in gerontology and sociology at the Francis Scott Key Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He retired in 1989, and died on 5 December 2014, aged 96.
In May 1942, Martin married his girlfriend, Alice, in the garden of the Kinseys' house. Before marrying, he had a sexual relationship with Alfred Kinsey.

1928 – Ray Kassar was president, and later CEO, of Atari Inc. from 1978 to 1983. He had previously been executive vice-president of Burlington Industries, the world's largest textile company at the time, and president of its Burlington House division. A member of the Board of Directors, Kassar had spent over thirty years at Burlington.
Ray Kassar was hired in February 1978 as president of Atari Inc.'s consumer division by Warner Communications, which at the time owned Atari. By this time, rifts had begun to develop between the original Atari Inc. staff (most of whom had engineering backgrounds) and the new hires brought in by Warner (who, like Kassar, mostly had business backgrounds).
In November 1978, when Atari Inc. co-founder Nolan Bushnell left the company after a dispute with Warner over the future of Atari Inc., Kassar became CEO. Under his leadership, sweeping changes were made at Atari and the laid-back atmosphere that had existed under Bushnell's leadership all but disappeared. Kassar's twenty-five years at Burlington Industries had given him a taste for order, organization, and efficiency and his efforts to revamp Atari along similar lines provoked substantial animosity. Kassar shifted the focus away from game development and more toward marketing and sales. Atari Inc. began to promote games all year around instead of just at the Christmas season. R&D also suffered deep cuts and the discipline and security at Atari Inc. became strict.
In a sense he also helped create the video game maker Activision. While Kassar was at Atari he angered a large number of the game developers by not crediting them in any way to the point where they walked out of Atari. He told them that they were no more important to the games then the people that worked on the assembly line. They started their own company and called it Activision.
Ray Kassar is the namesake the widely popular game “ Yar’s Revenge.” The creator of the game was a former employee at Atari “Yar” is Ray spelled backwards. The title is a deliberate jab at Kassar, mocking his dictator-like work ethic as well as his flamboyant manner. Ray Kassar was known by the employees at Atari to be an extremely flamboyant homosexual outside the work place. Employees didn't care what his sexual preferences were, but they were irked by his daily habit of being chauffeured to work in a limo and then proceeding to make grand entrances into the office.
Kassar built Atari into a video game giant that it was, before he was forced to resign because of allegations of insider trading in 1983. He sold all of his shares in Atari just hours before a report was published that Atari had suffered monetary loses in the millions.

1929  – Charles Beaumont (d.1967) is born Charles Leroy Nutt. He was an American author of speculative fiction, including short stories in the horror and science fiction subgenres. He is remembered as a writer of classic Twilight Zone episodes, such as "The Howling Man", "Miniature", "Printer's Devil", and "Number Twelve Looks Just Like You", but also penned the screenplays for several films, among them 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, The Intruder, and The Masque of the Red Death.
In 1954, Playboy magazine selected his story “Black Country.” Playboy has been loved by straight men for decades but it was this gay short story that built its reputation. Hugh Hefner was the only one to accept a science fiction story about heterosexuals being the minority against homosexuals. When letters poured in, he said: 'If it was wrong to persecute heterosexuals in a homosexual society, then the reverse was wrong too.'

1961 – Todd Haynes is an American independent film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his feature films Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story, Poison, Velvet Goldmine, Safe, and the Academy Award-nominated Far from Heaven and I'm Not There.
In 1987, while an MFA student at Bard College, Haynes made a short, Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story, which chronicles the life of American pop singer Karen Carpenter, using Barbie dolls as actors. The film presents Carpenter's struggle with anorexia and bulimia, featuring several close-ups of Ipecac (the prescription drug Carpenter was reputed to have used to make herself vomit during her illness). Carpenter's chronic weight loss was portrayed by using a "Karen" Barbie doll with the face and body whittled away with a knife, leaving the doll looking skeletonized. The film is also notable for staged dream sequences in which Karen, in a state of deteriorating mental health, imagines being spanked by her father.
Superstar featured extensive use of Carpenter songs, showcasing Haynes' love of popular music (which would be a recurring feature of later films). Haynes failed to obtain proper licensing to use the music, prompting a lawsuit from Karen's brother Richard Carpenter for copyright infringement. Carpenter was reportedly also offended by Haynes' unflattering portrayal of him as a narcissistic bully, along with several broadly dropped suggestions that he was gay and in the closet. Carpenter won his lawsuit, and Superstar was removed from public distribution; to date, it may not be viewed publicly. Bootlegged versions of the film are still circulated, and the film is sporadically made available on YouTube.
Haynes' 1991 feature film debut, Poison, garnered Haynes further acclaim and controversy. Drawing on the writings of "transgressive" gay writer Jean Genet, the film is a triptych of queer-themed narratives, each adopting a different cinematic genre: vox-pop documentary ("Hero"), 50s sci-fi horror ("Horror") and gay prisoner love story ("Homo"). The film explores traditional perceptions of homosexuality as an unnatural and deviant social force, and presents Genet's vision of sado-masochistic gay love as a subversion of heterosexual norms, culminating with a marriage ceremony between two gay male convicts. Poison marked Haynes' first collaboration with producer Christine Vachon, who has since produced all of Haynes' feature films.
Poison was partially funded with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The film subsequently became the center of a public attack by Reverend Donald Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, who criticized the NEA for funding Poison and other works by gay and lesbian artists and filmmakers. Wildmon, who had not viewed the film before making his comments publicly, condemned the film's "explicit porno scenes of homosexuals involved in anal sex", despite no such scenes appearing in the film.
Poison went on to win the 1991 Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize, establishing Haynes as an emerging talent and the voice of a new transgressive generation. The film writer B. Ruby Rich cited Poison as one of the defining films of the emerging New Queer Cinema movement, with its focus on maverick sexuality as an anti-establishment social force.
Haynes achieved his greatest critical and commercial success to date with Far From Heaven (2002), a 1950s-set melodrama inspired by the films of Douglas Sirk about a Connecticut housewife Cathy Whittaker (Julianne Moore) who discovers that her husband (Dennis Quaid) is secretly gay, and subsequently falls in love with Raymond, her African-American gardener (Dennis Haysbert).
Haynes is openly gay. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon.

2005 – Bonnie Bleskachek became the first openly lesbian fire chief of a major city, Minneapolis. She was demoted two years later amid claims of harassment and discrimination, but return to the department as a staff captain. She co-founded the Minnesota Women Fire Fighters Association.

She also once had a threesome with Paul Newman and James Dean, and called out LBJ over the Vietnam War so hard that it made First Lady Johnson cry. Eartha Kitt was talented, sexy, and a total badass activist.

Martin Sam Milner (December 28, 1931 – September 6, 2015)  Film, stage, radio and television actor. Milner is best known for his performances in two popular television series: Route 66, which aired on CBS from 1960 to 1964, and Adam-12, which aired on NBC from 1968 to 1975.
He guest starred in many television series during the 1950′s through the 1990′s.  Among them were The Stu Erwin Show, Dragnet, The Life of Riley, Navy Log, 7 The West Point Story, Wagon Train, The Millionaire, Rawhide, The Twilight Zone, Laredo, The Virginian, Fantasy Island, MacGyver, Murder, She Wrote and Life Goes On.  He also starred in The Swiss Family Robinson during the 1975-1976 season.  (Wikipedia)
Glenn Corbett (born Glenn Edwin Rothenburg; August 17, 1933 – January 16, 1993)  Actor in movies and television for more than thirty years. Corbett came to national attention in the early 1960s when he replaced George Maharis in the cast of the popular CBS adventure drama Route 66. He followed this with roles in high-profile films and television shows, including a guest role in the original Star Trek series, the daytime soap opera The Doctors and the prime-time soap Dallas.
In 1963, Corbett replaced George Maharis on Route 66. Corbett, playing Lincoln Case, co-starred with Martin Milner during part of the third season and the fourth and final season of the series (1963–64). In 1964–65, he had a role on Twelve O'Clock High as Lt. Tom Lockridge for two episodes.
Corbett's other television roles in the early to late 1960s include Wes Macauley on It's a Man's World (1962–63). He was featured in 1964 as "Dan Collins" in an episode of Gunsmoke titled "Chicken" in which a man gets an undeserved reputation as a gunman when he is found at a way station with four dead outlaws at his feet. Corbett was cast in a 1965 episode of Bonanza, titled Mighty is The Word, in which he portrayed a gunfighter who finds religion and becomes a preacher, only to be confronted by a vengeful man whose brother he once killed. In the 1965–1966 season, Corbett guest-starred on The Legend of Jesse James.  Corbett also guest-starred in an episode of The Virginian, entitled "The Awakening", in which his character, David Henderson, is a destitute former minister who has had a crisis of faith and comes to Medicine Bow just as a dispute breaks out at a local mine over safety issues. He appeared as "Chance Reynolds", a regular cast member on The Road West (1966–67). He guest-starred in the second season Star Trek episode "Metamorphosis" (1967) as Zefram Cochrane.
In 1971, Corbett had a guest appearance with Mariette Hartley on Gunsmoke (episode: "Phoenix"). In the 1970s, he had guest-starring roles on the television shows The Mod Squad, Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco, Police Woman, The Rockford Files, and Barnaby Jones.
In 1976, Corbett joined the cast of the NBC daytime soap opera The Doctors as Jason Aldrich. He stayed on The Doctors until 1981. Throughout the 1980s, Corbett was a recurring guest star on the long-running television series Dallas as Paul Morgan from 1983–84, and then from 1986–88.  (Wikipedia)
