Eddie falls asleep on the couch when he doesn’t mean to. He’s there watching a movie on TV while he waits for Steve to come home from a shift at Family Video. Those saturday shifts when Steve works until midnight always have Eddie fighting off sleep.

It’s weird because he’s always been a night owl. He stays up until the early hours of the morning so often he used to think his sleep schedule was permanently fucked. But on the nights when all he can do is wait there on the couch under a blanket, the cat on his chest and their dog on his legs, he can’t help it. He slips away as a movie plays on low volume, the lights turned down low, his head turned toward the front door so he can see Steve right when he comes in.

Cozy and warm, it's always the best feeling to let himself get comfortable and let sleep take him.

Steve comes home on those nights, finds Eddie there with their pets, sleeping soundly. He goes over to press a kiss to his forehead, right on the exposed spot where Eddie’s bangs have parted in his sleep. Eddie blinks his eyes open, fights the sleepiness away.

He rolls off the couch and lets Steve catch his arm to steady him as he rises to his feet. He stumbles -- overheated from the cat and dog and warm cozy blanket -- down to their bedroom. He lays in their bed while Steve changes out of his work clothes.

It’s in these soft, warm moments, when Eddie’s just barely awake, where he knows that this is exactly how he wants to spend the rest of his life.
