Rowing the Rarepair Rowboat: Brett Talbot x Isaac Lahey (Teen Wolf)
Requested by @rhyslahey
Brett stops Scott before he can knock on the door. Lori groans but he doesn't take another step, looking directly at Scott.
"You're absolutely positive we'll be safe here?" He doesn't ask because he doesn't trust Scott, but because he needs to see that he believes this is the right decision as well. For Lori's sake more than anything.
Scott understands. "I promise. No one is going to find you here. Not Monroe, not Gerard. Nobody knows this safe house exists outside of the pack."
He assured him of that before they even left, but now that they're in France, so far away... Far away is good. For the time being, at least, until things settle down and it's safe for them to return home.
"And this friend of yours, the one who lives here," Brett begins, eyebrows raising, "you're sure we can trust him?"
"Brett," Lori says impatiently. She can't stop looking around them every few seconds, worried they're going to be crept up on.
Scott nods once more and wholeheartedly says, "You can trust him. Isaac is one of us, and he knows we're here."
Taking a deep breath, he finally lets Scott go ahead and knock on the door. He keeps himself back a bit as footsteps approach them on the other side of the door. His arm slowly creeps out to push Lori back if necessary.
The door opens. They're immediately ushered inside, and Scott offers for them to go first but Brett insists. He walks in behind him, keeping Lori close at his heels.
For a safe house, it's a pretty nice apartment. They all move into a big room with two couches and double glass doors that lead out onto a balcony. The thin, grey curtains are drawn enough for him to spot the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
Brett turns his back to it as Isaac, he presumes, walks in. He and Scott have a moment together, sharing a hug and a general greeting. Then Scott turns to him and Lori with a smile.
"Guys, this is Isaac. An old friend," he says, and turns back to Isaac as he continues, "this is Brett and Lori. I told you what's been going on, and that they need somewhere to sort of lay low for a little while. We're hoping not more than a couple weeks."
"You never know with Gerard," Isaac says darkly. "I thought he was gone for good and now you tell me he's back. And with a new sidekick, like Kate wasn't bad enough?"
"Except, he's her sidekick, apparently."
There seems to be some doubt in that for both of them. Brett keeps his eyes on Isaac, and only shakes his head in response when he asks him and Lori if they want something to drink.
Isaac leaves the room to get some water and a croissant for Lori, who complained that she was starving, to Brett's annoyance. He did offer to get her breakfast at the airport and she called him overbearing.
"You'll both be fine here," Scott says to them softly. He seems to be talking more to Brett than to Lori, who's already wandering the room, admiring the framed art on the walls.
Brett says nothing, but glances around as well. It really doesn't look like a bad place. Maybe a bit more open than he would like for the place they're meant to be "hiding out" but it's high-up and in a whole other country from Monroe or Gerard. Could be worse. He and Lori could be dead.
Stepping closer to him, Scott lowers his voice like it'll make any difference. "Are you okay?"
For a second, he's tempted to admit that he's scared. Terrified, actually. Of being found. Losing Lori. Being in a place so far from the only people they were able to call family. His stomach lurches at the thought of Satomi.
He clenches his teeth and nods, forcing a tight smile. "Mhm."
"I can stay tonight, if that would help. But I would need to go back tomorrow. With everything going on back in Beacon Hills, I can't stay too long," Scott says, looking and sounding like he feels horrible about it.
"It's fine," Brett says. "I get it. They need you. We'll be fine here, like you said." His eyes dart to the kitchen door where he can see Isaac buttering Lori's croissant. He nods his head toward him. "And he seems nice enough."
Scott nods with full sincerity. "He's one of the best I know."
Then Brett decides. This Isaac guy must be the real deal. When Isaac returns to them a moment later and offers him a glass of water, he accepts it with a slight smile of gratitude.
"Feel free to head through to the bedroom and get some sleep," Isaac tells him, glancing back at Lori as well, then turning back to flick his eyes up and down Brett's rigid form. "You look like you're about to drop dead from exhaustion."
Lori snickers. Brett narrows his eyes at him. His mouth curls into the first real smile in the past forty-eight hours or so.
"I'll remember to throw on some makeup next time I'm on the run," he replies dryly. "Thanks for the compliment, Jean-Paul."
"You know I'm not actually French."
"That's a shame," Brett says, unscrewing the lid from his bottle. He walks around him and Scott, pointing down the hallway they came in through. "Bedroom's down here?"
"Yeah, on the right." Isaac then turns to Scott and Lori in confusion as Brett goes to find the room. "Why's that a shame?"
He smirks to himself as Lori wearily answers, "He's always said he wants to date a French guy. Or even just one who can speak the language semi-fluently."
"Oh," Isaac says. After a beat, "I'm pretty fluent."

Somewhere after the movie
There were many things Lydia got from her little trip back to Beacon Hills, but the most important of them all was a lesson.
A lesson in holding on to the things and the people we love because it might be too late if we don’t.
It was hard to be back, especially after the past year. To go back on those streets, the same places and with the same people she grew up with… well, almost.
The most important person wasn’t there.
She knew that she was to blame for that, that maybe he didn’t want to go knowing that she’ll be there. She also knew how hard he worked, so maybe he just got caught up with a case and couldn’t find the time to drive down.
Either way, Stiles wasn’t there. And it felt wrong.
It felt wrong to be detectives without him, to tie a red string on a board and not have him fussing over it, tying it around his fingers anxiously as he tried to figure it out.
But that was her fault, too. It was she who left, her who put a stop to what they had because she was scared. Scared of a nightmare that felt too real not to pay it any mind. And, after her record, she didn’t want to risk it. Not when it came to Stiles. She lost him so many times already.
“Are you okay, Lyd?” Jackson asks. It’s been nice to have him around. The whole bringing-Allison-back thing was hard enough, she needed a support system if her usual one was gone.
She’s glad at least that worked out, and maybe it was seeing Scott and her best friend get back together as if no time had passed, or maybe it was the fact that she had to catch Allison up with everything she missed the past fifteen years, and the memory lane wasn’t a fun ride to go down.
“You don’t look surprised,” Lydia asked her best friend after she finished the re-cap of her story.
“About Stiles? How could I?” Allison laughed. “Lyds, you kept denying it but I could see it from a mile away. Besides, I do remember that kiss. Even with everything that was going on, you two… you were meant to be.”
The words still play in her head now as Jackson waves his hand in front of her.
“Sorry, what were you saying?” Lydia asks, turning to face him. He just rolls his eyes in annoyance. He really became a totally different person after he left Beacon Hills, but Lydia thinks he likes it better like this, funnily enough.
“You need to talk to him,” Jackson blurts out.
“Talk to who?” She frowns.
“Oh, come on, you’re the smartest woman in the world, I’m pretty sure you can figure that one out.”
“I—I can’t, Jackson. I can’t go back. I don’t even know if he still—“
“This is Stiles we’re talking about. The guy’s been in love since… what, eighth grade?”
“Third, actually—“
“Even better! Trust me, he’s not… he’s still in love with you. It would be stupid of him not to.”
“I just don’t think it’s fair. After all, it was me who left without a warning,” she sighs.
“Fine, then wait until the next supernatural crisis hits and we can all come back here and make it awkward like Malia and Scott! What the fuck happened between those two, anyway?”
“Beats me…” Lydia says.
“I’m just saying, I think you should call him. Or show up at his doorstep and tell him what happened. He’d do that for you.”
And Jackson is right about that, Stiles would do that for her. He’d do anything for her. Once, after they moved to San Francisco, her bosses were being dicks and not giving her enough credit and he actually conducted an investigation that got them in trouble for neglecting their workers.
“I’ll see what I do, but thanks for coming and… for everything else,” she hugs him. It’s time for him to catch his plane back to London.
“Of course, but remember—“
“No word of this to Ethan. Got it,” she chuckles. “Have a safe flight!”
“Call him!” Is the last thing he says before he closes the door and heads inside the airport. Lydia sighs and holds the steering wheel harder, thinking.
When she closes her eyes, he sees the dream again, so clearly, so vividly, Stiles on the floor, glass shattered all around him, and the car on fire. He’s not breathing, and all Lydia can do is scream, but nobody hears her.
She shakes her head and starts driving back to San Francisco. It’s gonna be a long ride, but she hopes that she’s made a decision by the end of it.
(…)
There are few things Lydia missed about using her powers again, but the random blackouts weren’t one of them.
That’s the only possible reason she can think of as to why she’s parked her car in front of Stiles’ apartment. Or maybe it was just muscle memory.
Or both.
Call him.
“Fuck it.” She says and she gets out of the car, trying to make herself look presentable as if Stiles hadn’t seen her at her worst. As if he hadn’t loved her even when she was locked up in an asylum, with her head drilled open.
As she heads to the door, her heart starts to beat way too quickly for comfort.
Maybe this is a horrible idea. Perhaps she should’ve called. What if he’s not home? What if he’s got someone over? She probably should’ve texted first to make sure he didn’t hate her.
“Lydia?”
She doesn’t even get to ring the doorbell.
But, of course, he must’ve felt the red string of fate pulling as she got closer.
“Hi,” her voice barely comes out, which is funny for a Banshee. “I—“
“Oh, my God,” he drops the bags he was carrying and walks to her to hug her so tightly she can barely breathe. “You’re okay, thank God.”
She doesn’t know what to say, how to act. It takes her a few seconds to hug him back, too startled. But this is the place she belongs in: his arms.
“Scott texted and… I didn’t know you’d be going back, too. Beacon Hills was—“
“It was Allison, of course, I went back,” Lydia says. “It was… weird being there without you, you know? We all missed you, I missed you.”
“Did you?” He asks, and Lydia knows that he has every right to be defensive, but she doesn’t want him to be.
“Of course, I did. I—“ she sighs. “Listen, can we talk? Upstairs, maybe? Or if you don’t want to, I can come back another day or we can meet up somewhere else that doesn’t feel so personal, or you can tell me to get the fuck out and—“
“I would never do that,” he says, and it hurts that Lydia knows. Even when she’s hurt him so many times, he still wouldn’t. “Let me—I was on my way to take out the trash, so let me do that and then you can come up, sure.”
“Cool, yeah, sure, do you need any help with that?” She asks, pointing at the bags, but he shakes his head, smiling slightly.
“Wouldn’t want you to stain those boots. They’re your favorite, aren’t they? Or maybe you got a new favorite pair now.”
“I don’t,” she says, maybe a bit too quickly. The fact that he remembers makes something warm burn inside her. The same fire that’s been burning for over fifteen years and didn’t die even when they were apart.
She watches him go down the stairs to the bins down the street and come back with his checkered pajama bottoms and a plain white t-shirt that Lydia knows he loves to sleep in.
It feels like nothing has changed except it has. Many things have changed. Dead people aren’t dead anymore and people who weren’t dead before, are.
“Alright, let’s go?” He asks once he gets back to her, and she just shyly nods before she follows him inside.
She knows the way to his apartment by heart, and could probably get there with her eyes closed if she wanted to, but she enjoys the sight of him. His hair is a bit longer, much like it was when they were in high school.
She feels like she just jumped on a time machine and they’re back to the days when discovering dead bodies around their town was the norm. Well, he still kind of does, but he always said it wasn’t as fun without the rest of the pack.
“Welcome. I’m sorry about the mess, I wasn’t really… expecting anyone,” he chuckles, scratching the back of his neck as he moves to the side to allow Lydia to walk in.
The fact that it still looks exactly the same as the last time she was here gives her a bit of whiplash. Only the pictures of them two are gone, but Lydia doesn’t blame him for that.
At least the ones of the whole pack are still there.
“It’s okay, I’m used to your mess,” she smiles a bit, hoping it wasn’t too much for her to say.
“Yeah, after hanging out in my teenage bedroom, I’d say you’re good,” he chuckles as well and closes the door behind her.
It’s a bit awkward as they sit on the couch in silence, and Lydia is starting to second-guess coming here in the first place.
“What did you want to talk about?” He eventually asks, and Lydia is surprised that she founds herself at a loss for words. That’s never happened before.
“I… These few days have been very intense. Going back there, seeing all the people from our past… Allison coming back and losing Derek was very hard. It showed me the importance of not holding anything back because it might be too late.” She looks down at her hands as she starts fidgeting with her fingers nervously. She always does that.
“Hey, Lyd? It’s alright,” he reaches over and holds her hand the same way he always did. The same way he used to unwrap the colored strings they used for their detective maps, the same way he did when he put a ring on her finger. A ring she left behind when she left.
“Is it, though? Don’t you hate me even a little bit?” She asks, now turning to look at him. “Because, trust me, I do. I hate myself. I hate myself for leaving you like that, but I didn’t have a choice,” she says. “I— I’m sorry that I left like that, so suddenly and without explaining. I couldn’t—“
“Do you want to explain it now?” He asks, as gentle as usual, just as patient.
“I had a nightmare one night… we were driving somewhere and suddenly, it all turned black, there was a crack on the window, and you… you were on the floor, surrounded by glass and I couldn’t move. I couldn’t reach you, but you weren’t breathing.” She gulps. “And I know that I’ve had nightmares before, we both have, but—It kept happening, every night I dreamed the same thing until the point where I didn’t know if it was a dream or if it was a premonition.”
“Well, I’m not dead, am I?” He asks.
“You’re not, because I left. I was there in the dream, so I thought that… if I left, then—“
“You have to be kidding me,” he says, standing up. “Lydia Martin, you—“
“I couldn’t lose you, okay? Not like that! I—I couldn’t face you dying, Stiles. I’m sorry, I know it was selfish, but I just—I couldn’t be the reason why you died.”
“So losing me anyway was the best idea you had? Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“Because I was scared! I was terrified of triggering it, so I just—“ she sighs. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come. I had no business stirring up the past like that, you—you never deserved it.” She stands up and starts to head for the door.
“Hey, hey, hold on, I never said that,” he reaches out to stop her, grabbing her arm. “I’m just saying… Lydia, I’ve been in love with you since the third grade. Even when you barely acknowledged my existence, I loved you. Did you really think that I stopped?”
“You should have,” Lydia says with a bitter laugh.
“Yeah, well, I also should have stayed home that night that Scott got bitten, I should have studied more for my exams instead of going around the woods every night, and I should have made sure to keep my Jeep in top-tier condition so it wouldn’t keep breaking, I should have done many things, but we all know I never was too good at doing what I should, was I?” He says, a smile on his face. “So, tell me, Lydia, why did you actually come here? Just to tell me that? So that I could… find closure and move on?”
“I came because I missed you. Because being back in Beacon Hills without you felt wrong and made me realize how much I wished that I’d stayed. How much I regretted letting that nightmare drive me away from the only thing that I’ve ever had. You—You’re the love of my life, Stiles. And every second I’ve spent without you has been torture.”
“I’d say we’ve both been tortured enough in the past, haven’t we?” And with a swift pull, Lydia finds herself colliding against his chest. “Let’s stop that,” he says before he presses their lips together.
And even though she’s been back in Beacon Hills, this is her true Homecoming. She wraps her arms around Stiles’ neck and deepens the kiss, making up for all the time they lost.
“I love you so much,” she whispers against his lips, feeling her own tears rolling down her face.
“And I love you,” Stiles says back with a smile. “Next time you have a nightmare, tell me about it instead of taking off in the middle of the night, yeah?”
“I’ll try. If I don’t, come find me.”
“Alright, deal.” And he kisses her again, and again, and again, for all the times he couldn’t, for all the nights he wished she was still in her arms, for all the minutes of the day he’s spent thinking about her since he left.
And, when they find their way back to bed, Stiles gets a box out of his bedside table and hands it to her.
“You kept it?” Lydia’s eyes open wide when she sees the ring.
“Always kept hoping you’d come back,” he admits, sliding the ring on her finger and kissing it after. “I’m glad I was right.”
“I am, too.”
And the world might still be a freaky place with werewolves, banshees, kitsunes, nogitsunes, dark druids, and people coming back from the dead, but in their little bubble, it’s just them.
It’s always been just them.

Deadly Game, the debut novel from Michael Caine, will be published in the UK and US in November, it has been announced.
The actor, 90, has long harboured the desire to write a thriller, and was inspired to do so by a news item, says his UK publisher, Hodder’s Rowena Webb, about “the discovery of uranium by workers on a dump in London’s East End”. The novel’s lead character is DCI Harry Taylor, who, according to the synopsis, is “called in when just such a package is found, mysteriously abandoned in Stepney and stolen before the police can reclaim it. As security agencies around the world go to red alert, it is former SAS man Harry and his small team from the Met who must race against time to find who has the nuclear material and what they plan to do with it.”
Key suspects in the case include “the aristocratic English art dealer Julian Smythe” and “mega-rich Russian Vladimir Voldrev”. The plot also involves “British neo-Nazis and Colombian drug cartels”, leaving Harry “just the man to cut through the red tape and get to the heart of an extraordinary criminal enterprise”.
Says Hodder fiction editor Nick Sayers: “When Rowena and I met Sir Michael last year, I discovered that he is not only a lifelong reader of thrillers, but also an author bursting with ideas for fiction of his own. Deadly Game is a cracking thriller with a real voice and a super twist.”
Caine discussed the novel, which he wrote during lockdown, in an interview with the Guardian in 2021, when the title was still If You Don’t Want to Die.
“I only read thrillers,” he told Xan Brooks. “I’m an adventure man, I’m not a literature person, so I’m not trying to replace Shakespeare here. But it’s based on something I once read about two dustmen, two rubbish collectors in the East End. And they find uranium in the rubbish.”
One of the best known and most beloved British film stars of the past 60 years, Caine has appeared in more than 130 films, including Zulu, Alfie, The Italian Job and Sleuth.
He won supporting actor Oscars for his performances in Hannah and Her Sisters and The Cider House Rules, and more recently has collaborated with the director Christopher Nolan.
Caine himself hails from south-east London, and has six times played a character called Harry, most notably in The Ipcress File and its sequels, and in 2009’s Harry Brown.
He will next be soon alongside Glenda Jackson in The Great Escaper, based on the real-life story of a second world war veteran who fled his care home to attend the D-Day anniversary in Normandy in 2014.
Other actors who have recently tried their hand at fiction include Ethan Hawke, David Duchovny, Hugh Laurie, Sean Penn and Tom Hanks.

Season Six, Episode Seventeen: Werewolves Of London
Great, I'm gonna have that in my head all night now.
The fact that literally no one says anything about Jackson having a boyfriend when he gets back to Beacon Hills is very funny tbh. He really is everyone's type.
A long awaited and well worth it return.
Melissa's been in danger before, but never this bad :(
Oh neat, Special Guest Star billing for Charlie and Colton - I thought it'd just be Colton.
Melissa still manages to be Best Mom even with holes in her <3
Oh god, it wasn't just Melissa either, wow.
Monroe is such a smug bitch, I swear to god.
Hey Deuc! Looking better than the last time we saw you, no bullets holes at the moment.
"So what, you live in a cave, took a vow of uselessness?" - Line of the episode from Malia here. Drag him!
"Gonna get our eyes stabbed out." - Malia's actually closer to the truth than you might think there.
"Where are you getting your juice?" Part Two up in here, Jackson interrogating the hunters.
That's like the third time that locker room mirror's been broken.
Better angels is never gonna work on Monroe, but it's a nice try from the Sheriff.
As recurring villains go, Gerard really does have his fingers in a lot of pies across the seasons. He, Kate, and Peter are pretty much a three way tie.
Yes, of course this is all Stilinski's fault. Monroe's mad, she really is.
I was wondering if Peter was coming back. Guess that answers that.
He raises a good point, but Scott's never gonna take the easy way over the right way, Peter should know that by now.
God, I hate this woman SO much.
Lydia's premonitions never take her anywhere nice, do they?
Guess the Primal are a dead end. Emphasis on the dead.
That's some twisted love from Gabe.
Oh look, Peter's been on fire again. What a running joke.
Aww, Peter wants to protect Scott because Malia's in love with him :')
Jackson and Ethan are so confident, yet so dumb. You silly pair.

Chapter 1
Taking advantage of the fact that, at least for one night, he had obtained a relief of excellent confidence, Sheriff Stilinski arrived home shortly after dark.
It had been a long day and crime in Beacon Hills was never resting, but with the new man in charge he had his case on track, so he could take a shower and clear his head.
Maybe he'd start by ordering a couple of greasy burgers and opening one of his whiskey bottles.
Stiles was not there and his wife was away, so there would be no one to forbid him, however, as soon as he set foot in the house, he noticed that something strange was happening; the lights that he left on like he did every morning were now off. He used to leave them like that to avoid tripping and breaking his knee again, and he refused to believe the light had gone out because the one in the kitchen was on.
Two seconds later he was in the urgent need to draw his gun as soon as the light went out, he even heard his frets being carefully shuffled, as if they didn't want to make too much noise.
"Stay there, you wretch!" he bellowed hastily, pointing at a person who had his back turned, behind the island, near the refrigerator.
Thanks to the little light that entered through the window, he could see that he remained still and with his hands up.
"Calm down, I'm not armed. Put that down,” he asked what he confirmed was a man. He was surprised to realize that it was someone possibly underage.
Noah Stilinski approached intently, iron on his gun and ready to fire at the first wrong move. He carefully proceeded to the switch and turned on the light.
"Your hands behind your head," he ordered quietly, but with enough authority. Now I'm going to handcuff you and you're going to accompany me. If you move...
"Damn it," the kitchen stowaway interrupted and turned away.
"What the hell?
...
Agent Stilinski's voice echoed through the walls of the police station.
"Who's the professional here?" —He yelled at the officer in front of him— "I didn't study six years in vain for you to disobey my orders! I know what im doing!" He pounded on the table as a nervous vein poked out of his forehead.
Derek stood with his arms crossed and his eyes sparkled with annoyance, just letting him speak.
"Stop making that face at me!" Stiles exclaimed again.
"When you finish your scene, let me know." He rolled his eyes tiredly.
"Already. I'm done."
Derek headed to the door and locked himself in the office with Stiles. He knew that if he talked to her like that it was to make himself heard and show how authoritative he could be.
"I'll rip your throat open with my teeth if you keep yelling at me like that." He bared his sharp werewolf teeth and flashed his cold, intense blue eyes.
Across from him, behind the bailiff's desk, a smartly dressed Stiles stood with a bored and forlorn expression. It was clear that he wasn't the least bit afraid of her.
He couldn't frighten him with anything anymore.
Six years have passed since the Anuk-ite's petrified remains were locked away in the more secure facility of Eichen House. They'd gotten Deaton to take over security for the underworld side of the place, while the mental health institute part would go on as usual.
The hunters mysteriously disappeared from town shortly after that, and according to Argent, none were heard from in the rest of the country. Not even Las Calaveras showed signs of life again. The hunt for the supernatural was over, and crimes of an unnatural nature ceased.
No other werewolves were heard from again. And the few omegas Ethan and Jackson recruited in London ended up in Beacon Hills under Scott's care.
Now the true alpha had his own veterinary clinic. He took care of animals and unprotected creatures. For Mason and Corey had been mentored by Deaton, and had mastered the art of Druid medicine. So they ended up working with Scott. Fortunately, now Dr. McCall had contacts in six other parts of the world where they distributed the necessary herbs and substances.
The girls had their lives more than organized.
Malia liked the role of her mother; they had a three-year-old boy who came out with the exact face of Peter, which wasn't surprising since the girl wasn't without Hale blood and Scott was her first beta. Finally her eyes were dark and he used to be the kindest and most obedient boy in the world. Father's inheritance.
Lydia had married Stiles a few years after graduation, but a few months later they divorced because they didn't seem to hit it off as a married couple. She graduated from college in New York and got a job as a history teacher at her old high school. She today she held the position of director, the same as her mother, who was now married to Stiles' father.
The ones who did get along as companions of justice were Stiles and Derek, the human knew that it was convenient for him to save Derek on that mission in North Carolina, since the werewolf had more knowledge of criminal organizations. And when she got back to Quantico-Virginia, she took up her training again. Therefore Derek decided to work in the police with Jordan Parrish and Sheriff Stilinski, that way he could legally work with Agent Miezyslaw of the BFI.
The days of getting illegal evidence and committing illicit acts to put bad guys behind bars were over.
"You'll have to find something cleverer than your mad dog eyes to scare me, deputy Hale."
Derek returned to his human form and let out a visceral growl, he felt helpless that he couldn't embed him and make him afraid of him. Unfortunately, that badge hanging around the agent's neck commanded respect.
“Five months have passed since you received your degree. You are still a learner.
"We both know he was good at this before he finished high school," Stiles replied.
"You're still twenty-four years old." You're a little kid at this,” Derek said. Let the greats take care of it.
"Oh, Methuselah!" The man in the suit waved his hands mockingly.
"You see?" He rolled his eyes again and crossed his arms around his chest. "You're childish of him."
“But professional. Now you respect me.
For all answer and for the sake of peace, Derek inhaled and exhaled deeply and slowly, gathering all the patience that could fit in his rough being, and then he managed a false smile.
“Okay, Agent Stilinski. What do you suggest we do?
Stiles' victorious smile was immediate, and taking a seat in his father's chair, he rested his elbows on the desk.
“You're going to patrol with Parrish all night. You will cover the north, Romero and I, the south. I'll buy the coffee and donuts.
"How considerate," said the other, notoriously ironic. Then he gave her a dirty look, going to the board to erase the idea that he had suggested minutes ago.
As he did and Stiles was about to sort through the case papers his father showed him, the door they'd just locked was flung open and the sheriff came in steaming from his ears, dragging a young teenage boy with him.
"Can you explain to me what the hell this means?" —He asked those present, then stared at his son — "Did they travel back in time?"
Not understanding, Stiles laughed because he remembered the time they had returned from Mexico with a young Derek many years ago, the occasion that the man was surely referring to. He took a closer look at the boy who must have been fifteen or sixteen years old and didn't look like anyone he knew.
"Why do you say that, dada?" he inquired carefully. They couldn't risk talking about supernatural things in front of just anyone.
"It's my exact copy when I was a kid!" the confused bailiff exclaimed angrily.
For the first time Stiles noticed that the boy was watching him with wide eyes and slightly open mouth, shooting him and Derek amazed looks. He had light brown wavy hair, his eyes seemed blue or green, even greyish, his tees were dotted with moles and he definitely had the look of his father.
"Hello, dada" he said suddenly in boy, but he didn't say it to him, now he was looking with a wide smile at the police officer who was next to the blackboard, and when he barely felt the sheriff let go of his arm, He lunged at Derek and wrapped him in a tight, longing hug.
He was just over four inches shorter than the werewolf, but he seemed to have too much strength to make him make a noise of pain at the gesture, however, Derek was too stunned to reciprocate. He had his arms outstretched as if the teenager was radioactive.
Derek didn't know what he should do. On some other occasion he would have pushed the boy away or pushed two meters away from him, or more likely, he would have growled at him so that he would even dare to touch him, but something prevented him from reacting. Perhaps it was the family scent that emanated.
"He is your son?" Stiles asked, the surprise disappearing not so much from his words as from his gaze.
Without time for Derek to respond, the unknown teen widened his goofy eyes and looked at Stiles like it was the first time he had seen him.
"There you are, Dad," he said in a sweet, wistful voice, but he couldn't hug him too.
"No no no! " Stiles put his hands up like a shield and took a few steps back. "What are you talking about?" How "dad"?
"What the hell? " The sheriff snapped, even more lost than Stiles and Derek.
"I know, I know," the boy mumbled. "It sounds crazy and it's all very confusing, even to me. But they are my parents... you and you" —he pointed out to both of them.
"He?" Derek snapped pointing at Stiles.
"With the him" Stiles said pointing at Derek.
"Did they adopt?" the bailiff wanted to know.
"No!" They answered in unison.
The smile on the boy's face grew gradually, taking turns looking at those present, he seemed to enjoy the show.
"This is perfect!" —He exclaimed happily— "I came at the exact moment."
"Who are you, boy?" Derek was starting to get really cranky.
"I'm Eli. I am his son in sixteen years.
Stiles gasped in extreme surprise and wanted to say something, but was interrupted by a raucous bustle outside the office. The three older ones rushed out and two boys were arguing with Parrish, but when they saw them they immediately calmed down.
One of them had short hair, with golden curls and light blue eyes, while the other, of the same age and height, had longer, curly hair, dark brown and blue eyes.
Then the one named Eli finished leaving the office and smiled proudly.
“And they are my brothers."

High School Reunion (Sterek AU Part 2)
Everyone was there. Lydia, Jackson (Stiles' nemesis from high school days and later one of his best friends), Allison, Danny, Ethan, Erica, Boyd. Even Isaac was there and Stiles knew for a fact that he lived in London. Only Scott hadn't made it. Typical Scott. Whenever Stiles needed his moral support, his friend had something better to do. Okay, this time, he had a good excuse. His wife Kira could go into labour at any moment. Of course, she objected to him flying across the country to attend a high school reunion. But Stiles would feel much more at ease with Scott by his side. Officially he was the only one who knew about his devasting crush on Derek Hale. Yeah, Jackson apparently knew too. But they never talked about it. Even some of the teachers hadn't missed the opportunity to attend the reunion. Stiles thought it was kind of sweet, although he could have done without Harris. He didn't even want to say hello to his hated chemistry teacher.
At the moment, Stiles was standing right by the buffet, thinking about what of the delicious food he should load onto his plate. Everything looked delicious. However, many of the delicacies had sauces on them and Stiles knew himself. He would not manage to eat these things without spilling them on himself. It was hopeless. So if he wanted to keep his dignity, he had to stick to sauce-free finger food. So he decided to try the salmon rolls and pieces of fruit. No sauces to ruin his shirt with! While he thought about the food, he didn't take his eyes off Harris. His former chemistry teacher was on the other side of the room and Stiles was ready to walk away from the buffet at any time if he saw the other man approaching. That was probably the reason why he was caught completely off guard when Derek Hale suddenly appeared in front of him out of nowhere.
"Hey Stiles, nice to see you again," he greeted Stiles cheerfully.
Stiles almost choked on his salmon roll.
"I heard you're running the library now. I could have sworn you'd follow in your father's footsteps one day," Derek said.
What the fuck? How did Derek know he got Miss McKenzie's job when she retired?  Stiles could have sworn that Derek Hale didn't even know he existed. Why on earth would he know where Stiles worked?

For the title prompt thing, what about: Stars of the Midnight Werewolf?
Since it is so close to Mason Week!! this one is going to be a Mason character study through his relationships with all of the werwolves we know. Through a series of conversations had outside at night, during various phases of the moon.
cut for length because this got longer and more almost an actual fic than expected (no warnings)
It starts, obviously with a Mason and Liam hanging out. Just having a conversation.
"So were you ever going to tell me?" Mason asks.
Liam uncomfortably admits he wasn't sure. The moon is new. As far from full as it can get.
"Dude. It's okay. I get it. I love you, man."
They hug.
Next up is Hayden. She's new to being a werewolf. Mason is new to being a human member of an unofficial werewolf pack. They both love Liam very much but find him exasperating in all of the best ways, too. It's a waxing crescent moon.
During the first quarter half-moon he talks with Malia. He very awkwardly asks about the difference between werewolves and coyotes.
"Ha! Like I know." Malia's fangs gleam in the moonlight.
"Uhm. Would you be. Interested in figuring it out? Together? Maybe?"
Malia is touched. She claps him on the shoulder. They end up making research dates.
Waxing Gibbous is Brett and Lori. They've become friends the three of them. Even Mason is occasionally a bit of wreck if Brett's shirt fits tightly. They lay on the grass under the stars, just talking about their hopes and dreams for the future. There is a discussion about born wolves vs bitten ones. Lori has spent a lot of time with Satomi, she's considered an expert based on her age. Mason wants to meet Satomi. They arrange something. Mason gets to have tea with her once before all three of them are gone.
Full Moon is obviously Scott
"How do you do it, man?" Mason asks, thinking about how Scott has been injured to the point of death at least once since he's known him.
Scott thinks he's talking about control. "I don't want to hurt anyone, my focus, my anchor has always been about love. Not anger. Not fear." Scott turns the tables around before Mason can process any of that. He faces Mason with a soft smile.
"What you do is so much more courageous. You and Lydia and Stiles, Braeden. You all fling yourself into danger with hesitation, with the knowledge that you can't just heal your injuries."
"You don't always," Mason points out.
Scott's smile is so sad as he answers quietly. "Don't I?"
Waning gibbous moon is a conversation with Theo. After the Anuk-Ite. It's stilted. They're still pretty brittle around each other. But there's mutual respect, too. And the vulnerability Theo expresses when he asks about Mason's research with Malia about werecoyotes is enough for Mason to invited him to the session.
Third-quarter half-moon is Jackson and Ethan. They're getting ready to leave to head back to London. Jackson tells stories about Scott and Stiles in their youth. They sit together laughing. It's refreshing. It gets a little melancholy as the night goes on and the discussions moves to those that have been lost. Then the conversation turns again to discussions about being gay in Beacon HIlls and some self-discovery. And it's just nice. They all agree to keep in touch. And they do.
Waning crescent moon is after Mason meets Isaac. He's not sure how to feel about this tall- let's face it extremely attractive man that reminds him a little of Brett. He's cocky and harsh on the outside. But there's clearly something under the surface. A sadness that all of them have, really, if Mason is being honest. Isaac has lost as much as any of them.
"Why did you even invite me here?" Isaac asks, at first.
Mason smiles. "I don't know. It started a while back. But it's nice, you know? Just to talk sometimes."
Isaac eyes him warily before answering. "You're right," he admits. "So what did you want to talk about?"
Mason shrugs. "Whatever comes to mind, man. Whatever comes to mind."
And that's how Mason is friends with everyone. Really this should be an actual fic. But that seems too hard. So enjoy the not! fic.

Ok but I can’t be the only one who wants to see a miniseries (or really just anything canon) about how Ethan and Jackson met and got together
oh my god me too! because jackson literally left end of s2 and the twins didnt come until s3.. so they must have bumped into each other in London?? or just casually met each other in the middle of a fight and compared notes like
"wait you're from beacon hills?!"
"yeah.. why do you ask"
"damn i was just there"
"oh. what a small world.. hows McCall and that idiot stiles"
"not bad - still getting themselves into trouble. wanna date?"

On Harry Potter and Percy Jackson:
London is diverse sure but most of England isn’t. The diversity statistics state in England and Wales 80% are white. Asian (Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi etc) ‘groups’ make up 6.8%, while 3.8% are black, 0.7% are Chinese, 0.4% are Arab and others are 0.6% - according to the IRR.
In America the statistics are: non Hispanic or Latino white people at 60%, Hispanic and Latino people with 18.5% of the population, while 13.4% are black, 1.3% are Native American, 5.9% are Asian, 0.2% are native Hawaiian and 2.8% are mixed race.
Also Harry Potter was published in 1997 - I read a lot and it was one of of the few if not only book that actually had diversity at the time. Percy Jackson was published 8 years later in 2005. In the first Harry Potter book there were the Parvati and Padma Patil, Indian twins, Dean Thomas and Angelina Johnson and Lee Jordan - all black. While others are depicted as white there are loads of characters potentially ambiguous. Those are the names ones who matter in some way. Rather than side characters mentioned occasionally. In Percy Jackson while in the movie Grover was played by a black actor it’s never state sun the books, in fact I had to research any within the first few books and it takes until the third book for any POC to be prominent: Ethan Nakamura, Charles Beckendorf (depicted as black in original art but not mentioned in the book itself) and Chris Rodriguez.
I am not denying that in later books he diversified the Percy Jackson world, and that he had a variety of people within his books - but the last Harry Potter book came out in 2007. The same year the third book in the Percy Jackson series was released and it hadn’t even matched it. Also to add JK Rowling write it while in Spain and took the book when she fled her abusive ex to Scotland. Spains statistics are actually done by country of birth as far as I can tell and are 86.3% Spanish, 1.8% Moroccan, 1.3% Romanian and 10.5% other, while Scotland where she completed and edited the books have statistics of: 96% of the population being white, while 2.7% are Asian, 1% are black and the remaining 0.3% being identified as mixed, multiple or other. But in 2001 (halfway through her writing the books) this percentage was 98% white.
Although as I looked this up I found that londons statistics on its own show: 59.79% of the population are white, while 18.49% are Asian, 13.2% are black, 4.96% are mixed and 3.44% are only identified as other.
That’s why demographics count and why comparing two different areas and writers who live in different areas, countries times is difficult. Also we could go into how the online fandom space likely adapted how Rick wrote and keep thinking know what fans wanted. Which didn’t become big until later. JKRowling didn’t have internet when she wrote the first Harry Potter she had a typewriter. So online research…
I’m not saying any of this to have a go just to show the comparison is not necessarily correct or as easy as people believe and many factors come into it (including a law that prevented any material that could possibly be seen as promoting gay people from being published until it was removed in 2003 in the U.K. which is why that wasn’t there though her later books have much more diversity in this and all ways)

Ethan/Jackson for the ask game? :)
Don't Ship It
1) Why don't you ship it?
i apologize in advance to anyone who likes it, but i think it’s transparently bad writing and it makes me mad aldfkgjh
it’s such blatant Pair The Gay Spares (TM), and they didn’t even pretend to try to provide any explanation for how that relationship even happened. they just wanted to capitalized on Colton’s queerness, and Ethan was the only unattached gay character whose actor they hadn’t burned a bridge with. so suddenly Jackson and his best friend’s ex-boyfriend whom he never met are living together in a penthouse apartment in london, celebrating their one year anniversary with the fucking opera or something like a middle aged married couple, despite Jackson being barely 18. where are his fucking parents?? how did Ethan end up in london?? did they hook up immediately or what??
it’s just so fucking weird. it’s a crackship made canon because the writers were fucking lazy, and the screen time it took up would’ve been better served making them actually relevant to the episode because as it stands, their entire presence was utterly useless and served no purpose.
2) What would have made you like it?
i’m not sure anything could tbh, but at least a cursory mention of how this relationship came to be would’ve gone a long way. a mention that Danny hooked them up, maybe. or changing the way they were introduced. that whole scene was fun, in its own way, but it didn’t fit with the tone of the show or make sense with their characters. make Jackson late for their anniversary because he’s studying for his university classes in the mid-sized flat they share, something to indicate that he’s, ya know, not 25.
(also not have Ethan be all “ew” about Jackson’s tail cuz that really rubbed me the wrong way for some reason)
3) Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
.........not really adfkgjhsjh
send me ships
