Ongoing Series - Thai

Honestly, 3 are neck & necking for top position! They are all so good in different ways. But The Sign had me hooting with laughter this week, so it scooped #1.

The Sign (Sat YT) ep 4 of 10 - This show is literally everything (except straight) all at once. It's BL, queer, band of brothers, romcom, erotica, paranormal, fated mates, mystery, suspense, slasher, and horror. It’s the king of genre mash-up chaos. I have no idea what I’m watching but I’m ON this ride. Is it a roller coaster? Is it a haunted house? Is it a twirl & hurl? Is there candy floss? Am I even tall enough? Who tf cares. All through the second scene, I was laughing. It was legit funny. Billy has great comedic timing. Guess he’s not just a pretty face.

Everyone should be watching this. Sure, it's madness but there is genius in it.

Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 6 of 12 -  Yech. August may be one of GMMTV’s least likable characters ever (and that is saying something). Meanwhile, MOAR language play! They spoiling me!

Mhok letting Day go then walking away at the party hurt so bad.

Argh this show is great!

Ep 6 so that kiss was right on schedule. I’m looking forward to the boyfriend eps before doom & pain in the new year. Carry on GMMTV. 

Speaking of...

Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube) ep 2 of 12 - Oh they’re great. It’s great. It’s paced oddly, moving quickly through most of the key scenes of the original JBL in these first 2 eps. I think it’s intending to encompass more of the manga series than that one did. Which is good, cause that will get us all the way to The Library Kiss (TM). It's the best kiss in the manga. I also like the sides in this show (better than the JBL version). 

My Dear Gangster Oppa (Thurs iQIYI) ep 8fin - What a lovely slightly unhinged little show. Tew, can we talk? Un-ironic suspenders, that takes courage. Also, the revolver was a crazy gun choice. 

Final thoughts:

This show is just as ridiculous as its title. About a gaymer who falls in love with one of his in-game teammates, who just happens to be a IRL gangster. A real gangster, the kind that actually kills people regularly. The lead pair is doing their best with a ridiculous story and shoddy script, but I enjoyed it. Although I was grateful it wasn’t very long, what we got was oddly satisfying if, frankly, a little bit silly. Recommended. 8/10 

That said, what's important about this BL is not the show, but the production and style. Let me explain... no, too much, let me sum up.

This is a chimera BL. Regarding characters: it has Japan's style otaku + Korea's style gangster + Thailand's style friendship group. It used Thai talent + Korean money (Kakao) & IP (adapted from a manwha) but aired on a Chinese channel globally (iQIYI). I'm delighted by the eclectic insanity of this production and truly doubt that any other genre but BL could ever produce like this. It's like diplomat's BL and it's the great wonder of our age that it happened at all. This BL deserves its place in the history books on production alone, even if that place is only in the footnotes. A remarkable little monster.

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - The sides are… messy. Using the same actor for the old bf is… odd. But in the end, this show leaves me smiling. Which means, I like it despite myself. 

Bake Me Please (Mon Gaga) ep 4 of 6 - It's decent. It’s basically what I wanted Antique Bakery to be when I first watched that way back when (not to mention Bite Me). But there’s been so much BL since then that, for some reason, this is falling flat. I think it’s moving too fast for a Thai series. Although, say what you like, Ohm has to be one of the best soft kissers in the industry. He's just good at mouth tenderness.

Ugh, that doesn't sound right. But you know what I mean.

Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 7 of 10 - I love how First is so upset when Sprite starts chatting and being nice to Koh. Sprite is just a sweet easy-going likable boy. I enjoy Sprite as a main character, he’s a bubbly little communicator. And they had a cute kiss.  

Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 5 of 14 - Because there was more Alan and Jeff and they were more key to the plot I was more into this ep. I do compare it to green smoothie down the pants in the Trash Watch.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 3 of 12 - Look OffGun are truly great. But I’m just not sure we need them in BL anymore. That said, it’s nice to see Off as "the one with the crush" for a change. Also, this show is only good when OffGun are on screen together, otherwise it kinda, well, sucks.

Night Dream (Sat YT) ep 1 of 6 - Cafe setting featuring a cook and a writer. *Seems awfully familiar.* Except these two are exes and this is a reunion romance. It’s stiff and very pulp but not bad (no crap sound effects) and I am a sucker for a reunion romance. That said, Rookie Thailand is not to be trusted, proceed with caution.

Absolute Zero (Weds iQIYI) ep 12fin - I'm grateful this is over. It was tense but for the wrong reasons - sadness and confusion. This final episode was fine, but that’s because it was mostly them being together + flashbacks. Plus all the familiar actor faces of the grown-up friends (hi, Karn my lovely, still stunning I see). But 2 of 12 episodes is not enough for the 10 of suffering and confusion that came before.

In conclusion:

A man is killed on his 10th anniversary resulting in a time paradox, for which the only solution is him never meeting his childhood sweetheart until later in life. Both lovers cycle back to the past at different ages, so that they each become their own 1st & 2nd great loves, but every time it ends in pain, until each also endures 10 years of separation. Finally it gets fixed, but leaves them with multiple memories of time's failures like temporal PTSD, and everyone around them has chronic deja vu. Me? I got both. This is one of those BLs that is high-quality with great acting but poor story. If you like your BL dwelling, maudlin, and tense due to angst and suffering, then you might enjoy this. But I just regret it, 6/10. Recommended only if you like confusing time travel emo pain.

In which case, just watch Tokyo in April is... instead. Give over Thailand, Japan does it better.

Middleman’s Love (Fri YT & iQIYI ep 6 of 8 - While our main couple isn’t working for me... the side couple isn’t working for me either. I really wanted to give LeoTai a chance, this is the 3rd show I’ve seen them in, and still nope. I like Jade a lot more when he’s sad. He’s a much more pleasant screen experience depressed. I would like him to stay hurt for a couple of eps, just so I can enjoy this show a tiny bit more. But then he just goes unhinged again. Argh. I just don’t like it. 

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) Pisces of Me ep 17 of 24 - Codependent boyfriends in middle school planning for high school dealing with stuff. Including other boys being into them. 

Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 5 of 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. DNF 

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - It’s cute but I don’t think BL in this short format is Taiwan’s strength these days. And this is quite slow and dull. Perhaps they should have whacked it down to 6 eps, not 10.

Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 3 of 8 - This is one of those JBLs that I should like on paper but is failing me. The drag bit was ridiculous but handled gently. The kiss was… well… something wasn’t it? It’s all very odd. I like the photographer cutie character. 

It's Airing But...

The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.

7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if it's safe.

Beyond The Star (Weds iQIYI) 8 eps - House of Stars meets Boyband. I was NOT impressed with ep 1. Been told I shouldn't bother.

What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - I find this series more fun to binge, so I'm waiting until after it completes its run next week.

Dear Kitakyushu (Thai/Japan movie) in theaters in country only, I know nothing about distribution.

Behind the Shadows (Korea movie) this is a historical I was interested in, but I've been told they kill the gay so I'm OUT.

Roach from The Passenger... the mc is also an eldritch creacher in this one, which may add or subtract to the enjoyment for various different people lol

Sysba from Attollo; i also think this game in general is pretty monster friendly, with a bunch of monstrous side characters and so forth. the cool kind of neo-gothic vibes give it a feeling a bit akin to a cyberpunk Penny Dreadful... it's about as Monsterfucker as cyberpunk gets i think!

Beacon from Stygian: The Abyssal Lighthouse by my good friend @salty-stories. this one is probably the most Lovecraftian of the eldritch creachers i think, heavy Call of Cthulhu vibes. it's still in progress but i'm personally willing to wait haha

Danny and Isla from When It Hungers by the wonderful @roast-ifs ... the game is still on hiatus but it still lives rent-free in my head always... the monster mcs are So *chef's kiss*

Oisein from The Nameless; due to the sheevra mc there's a Lot of really cool exploration of the boundaries of humanity and stuff like that... we love a "nonhumans shouldn't be able to feel/do this" story... we love it a Normal amount for sure.

Imagine my surprise that after my many month long hyper fixation on hotd that a friend of mine rec’s me some hp fanfics for delicious consumption and I stumble into ybtm…. And it’s written by you!!!!

I knew in the back of my mind while reading ruination that you wrote tomarry as well but it never occurred to me when getting back into hp fics that yours were kicking around somewhere!

To say I’m obsessed is an understatement, holy shit, I think I read ybtm in like 2 days???? And then proceeded to come and stalk your tumblr afterwards to get any more juicy details!!

Tom and Harry’s relationship is so refreshing and to see a time travel fic where Harry is kicking ass and taking names is a godsend, I could never understand trying to be a 30 year old war veteran stuck inside a child and not laying down the law a little bit. *chefs kiss*

Of course I can’t read anything without putting my thoughts to pen and paper so I drew a little Nat!

Nathan seems like such a sweet heart and it’s so easy to see how Harry would immediately come to be so protective of him, with them being so similar as kids.

And don’t get me started on the Nat Obsession Club TM, seeing Orion and Tom’s reaction to Harry in their world is insane. The boys feud over who gets to keep Harry is going to bring me joy for months to come and Gus’s begrudging acceptance of seeing Harry being welcomed into there life, and not throttling Ori for it, is hilarious. Just let the kid do his homework for Pete’s sake! 

I’ve fallen in love with this universe and can’t sing your praises more! Can’t believe I have another wonderful story of yours to look forward to in the future, your writing truly does inspire and can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Harry and Tom are so much fun to write tbh. Because you're right - most of the time in these kinds of stories, Harry is...not 'weak' or anything, but he's way more susceptible to Tom's manipulation. And Tom's usually in his sixth year or something.

Whereas here, it's the reverse. Harry's the older one and he takes no shit from these literal children. Tom and Orion are out here trying so hard to be sneaky, manipulative Slytherins and are so absorbed in their little plots, and Harry is just over in the corner staring into the void and having a fricking existential crisis.

Panam smirked, "We're not done just yet. The family agreed - if you're going to drive with us, work with us, live with us, it doesn't seem right that you're just two girls tagging along."

Judy turned to Panam, "What do you mean?"

Panam motioned for the couple to follow her to the back of her truck, "Normally we'd do this with some ceremony, in front of the whole pack, but with the rest of the family moving out and Militech being cagey about that whole 'stolen Basilisk' thing, we can't really afford that. Saul was insistent we wait... I told him where he can put his insistence."

Val's eyes widened, "Panam - you're askin' us to join the family?"

"Oh, I'm not asking," Panam replied, reaching into the trunk and pulling out a pair of bolero jackets, "the family's made its call. Welcome to the Aldecaldos."

The second Judy said that she wanted to leave Night City, I knew this is how Brother's Shadow will end for Val and Judy. When I finish Brother's Shadow, there will be smaller stories about what everyone got up to.

Judy continues to do BD editing, but her extensive knowledge of bots and mechanical tech has come in handy at the camp. Saul has (begrudgingly) admitted to Panam she was right to let them join the clan. Everyone who knows Saul knows that admitting to Panam when she's right is not one of his strengths.

Val's mercenary talents have also come in handy for the clan. Her 'friendly' rivalry with Cassidy as to who's the fastest gun in the West (TM) often keeps the kids occupied. Many bottles of beer have been harmed in the process.

Occasionally, Val and Judy go to visit Judy's grandparents. While there's talk of moving to the city again, it won't be Night City. That chapter's closed, in their opinion. That does mean, though, that Val will likely never see her father, Zanjoe, or her friends in NC in person again. But people have a way of finding each other, and even in the dark future, there's always hope...

MORE thoughts? Oh you know I have them.

I have feelings about how people call Qui-Gon this great jedi and it's like. what. No, he's just a free-spirited guy who happens to be very talented in using a saber.

He's a good diplomat and given his age, I'm not surprised that he has more experience than others in doing diplomatic work, but I don't think that he's like, some kind of prodigy.

He pushes his luck with the council, but he doesn't want the institution turned upside down or anything. He just wants them to agree with him more because he's Right(TM).

Also, ALSO. I don't care what people say. Qui-Gon taught 3 apprentices. This whole thing about him repudiating Feemor is emotional nonsense. He just flopped over and said 'I'm the worst, none of my accomplishments matter' after Xanatos betrayed him because like, haven't we all?

And generally, I think of him as being aloof, but not uncaring. My hc is that he doesn't especially love little kids, despite knowing how to care for them. He tends to see them as endearing, but a task that he would rather not partake in.

When/if Obi-Wan cries as a 12-13yo, he is genuinely floundering before remembering that physical touch and the words 'I'm sorry' and 'It's okay, you're okay' exist.

Last Book: I'm reading Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross and I am enjoying it, but it upsets me that current YA fantasy is so tame and restrained. In my day we were reading Vampire Academy where the protagonist had to kill her turned-evil boyfriend and he captured her and locked her up and put her in a vampiresque sexual trance of sorts ffs. What will happen to the children reading all this prudeness honestly!!!!!! I'm also reading a thriller called The Maid's Diary and the last book I finished was another YA, titled Make me a Liar. It was a scy-fi murder mystery and a solid 2/5 stars read. IDK is it just me or last year was really really weak, book-wise? It was very hard for me to actually find new releases that kept me hooked.

Last Movie: Saw Mean Girls at the theater and at home I rewatched D&D Honor Among Thieves. Still a fantastic movie btw.

Last TV Show: I'm watching PJ&O weekly! Also I just returned from a three week trip to Sweden and they had Scrubs available to stream there, which sadly is not true here in Brazil. Anyway I got to watch all of season one before coming home.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Savory! Specially if its a little tangy. I love adding lime and salt to stuff lol

Relationship Status: Single

Current Obsession: So the PJ&O show has definitely rekindled some of the decade old obsession I've had for/with a handful of characters. Also a couple months back I started to write fanfiction again and finally had the guts to put into words stories I fantasied for a long time, for the niche pairing I've secretly read since I was 17. Its scary cause fandom is daunting but wth, right? Which in turn made me want to read even more fanfiction to celebrate fanwork. People are so talented its insane. Also I have been writing some of my own original shit. Oh and its Big Brother Brasil season so I apologize for my capslocked portuguese tweets for the next 3 months because I cannotjust watch something

Looking Forward To: Carnaval is in a couple of weeks, which, love!! And to keep with the theme, let me give you a book, a movie and a show I'm excited for: Show: Severance season 2 whenever that drops Movie: Wicked part 1 baby I will be there in full green paint idc idc Book: *another disappointed sigh* I love Anthony Horowitz's mysteries, especially his self insert ode to himself (the Hawthorne and Horowitz series which is so so good, sadly;) and a new one is coming out in march, apparently. I will be there.

Tagged by @ceph-the-ghost-writer! Trying to get back to being more active here. One day I will write a chapter of one of my stories, I swear.

Let's start!

1. Are you named after anyone? Ostensibly not! My parents had a Talk TM before I was born and they both decided that I should not be named after anyone, to make my life my own etc. They found a name that hadn't appeared on either side of my family till that day. And then my aunt named her child the same name 🙃

2. When was the last time you cried? Sad Moment TM - it was my grandma's funeral last year (the exact anniversary is due in a couple of days), and before that, my other grandma's funeral a couple of years back. I'm not a big crier, though I sometimes wish I were. Lets feelings out.

3. Do you have kids? No, but I'm cool with having them one day, with the right person to raise them with. Love the fact that those funky creatures turn into actual taxpayers with careers one day.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? not really. In text - perhaps. With people I know well - yes. Generally no, I'm not that kind of a joker. In fact, I am a little dull IRL.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? How they react to other people, I think. Their relations with coworkers, how they talk to customers, people above and below them in the company hierarchy etc. I love analyzing that too. I also adore trying to figure out where they're from based on their vocab/accent.

6. What’s your eye color? Greyish blue. The dullest colour there is, though one person (very dear to me) called it "like winter sky on a frosty morning". Not cool enough to be "steel eyes", not blue enough to be compared to aquatic formations. There's no such thing as ugly eye colour though, and mine isn't either.

7. Scary movies or happy endings? Def both. Scary with a happy ending. I'm not a fan of jump scares but I think characters have to fight (and sometimes suffer) for their happy ending sometimes.

8. Any special talents? Hah. what does "special" mean? I'm stubborn in all the wrong ways and it makes me end up in some odd situations. I am rarely lost and read maps very well, and if you give me a simple task that needs to be repeated 1000 times, I'll happily do it without getting bored. I will just imagine my blorbos suffering during that time, so any negative moodlets cannot affect me.

9. Where were you born? Poland! In a small town I've only ever been to twice in my life, including my birth! The local hospital used to have a wonderful maternity ward and all, so my parents went there every time they had a baby on the way.

10. What are your hobbies? I write and I read, I find out weird stuff on the internet. I like crafts like stitching and knitting, I make my own beer, cider and fruit liquers, and work in the garden a lot! Oh, and I love languages an awful lot.

11. Have you any pets? I have two cats that live with my parents now - one of them is an idiot and also quarter European wildcat - he has 2 braincells only. The other one is his domestic cat momma, a black demoness that loves staying in the shadows and attacking you when you step on her (she doesn't have a non-black hair on her body so you can imagine she is stepped on quite often).

12. What sports do you play/have played? Used to be into handball in high school. Right now I mostly swim, usually when I have to think about stuff. I can't listen to my music in the swimming pool so I'm forced to listen to y thoughts. Other than that, I juggle! Oh, absolutely! To friends, family, others she cares for, people who need encouragement or a boost...Kerra gives plenty of compliments, and only ever sincere ones.

This is another area where Kerra is very sincere--she says "I love you" when she means it and not before. Once that point is reached, though, she says it often and easily, and always attaches it to goodbyes. (That manages to do several things over the years, including but not limited to a) flustering both her partners a Whole Lot when they first officially begin dating and b) giving both her brother and sister an Emotional Moment (TM) for different reasons.)

what is one compliment your muse is dying to hear?

That she's a good mother. Not that no one's ever told her that (at the very minimum, her partners have), but she has a really really hard time believing it. She loves her kids a lot and wants to always be giving them the best that she can, and she's always at least a bit afraid that she's not enough, or not doing enough, or both. So...it's not so much that she's dying to hear something she's never heard, but that she's dying to hear it in some way that'll make her believe it.

what is something your muse loves being praised for?

Excessive praise in any area can make her a little uncomfy, but I'd say probably her musical talents, when she plays her flute or sings! She's proud of them, and it's something entirely unrelated to her job, which is a factor as well.

Something quiet and away from any crowds or strangers. Aside from that, as long as he's with his partner, he doesn't really care.

Decently comfortable, actually, though he'd prefer to avoid staring contests unless he's trying to be intimidating xD

does your muse prefer conversation or just sitting quietly with their s/o?

It depends on the day and how he's feeling! Rel's happy to do either one, but some days he feels more like doing one than the other. Some specific notes on him and Trahearne--he greatly enjoys listening to Trahearne talk and will happily interject and ask questions/share his own thoughts, but just space to quietly sit with him is also very nice; they're more than comfortable with both.

is it easy for your muse to devote their full attention to one person at a time?

Yes. From a social standpoint, that's never been particularly difficult for Rel--and from a work standpoint, focusing methodically on one patient at a time is a skill he's gotten very adept at during his time as a Pact medic.

Cio: Physical Touch

does your muse like being hugged? 

Yes, but only from people she's very close to (Nisha, Pliarr, Ari), and they still generally need to ask first. She's kinda cautious with physical touch.

where could someone touch your muse to calm them down? 

Holding Cio's hand helps her a lot--or if she's in a mood to be hugged, which is hit-or-miss when she's upset, then that can help as well.

Not specifically, I don't think!

Not for a really long time--and not really ever with her brother, despite how close she was (and is) with him. She did with Sieran a little, a few months before Claw Island, and it's years and years before she does it with anyone else (Ari, after Icebrood).

Sooooo... I got a fnaf AU idea in my head. The animatronics are all humans and super popular/big idols, so big they decided to make the pizzaplex for their band but have lives outside the pizzaplex too. I know taking non-human characters and throwing them into human life isn't original, but I love the ideas I have in mind!

I'm going to draw my designs for them too, I just need some time to practice drawing human faces. Its surprisingly hard when all I've drawn is animals! Right now its just a big long idea, please feel free to send asks about it or draw it once I got my designs down!

First ill talk about my favorite characters, sunny and moon. In this AU they are separate characters, but super close! Not dating but like, inseparable best friends level close. Moon always acts like hes annoyed at Sunny and Sunny always acts like Moon is the worst, but inside they're great friends and just poke fun at each other for their super contrasting personalities. They went to theater school and know exactly what they're doing for shows and such, they know how to put on an act! They still run the daycare, and when the lights go out they quickly switch places while all the children's eyes are still adjusting to the dark. Kids swear its magic! They both live in the same apartment, and they go shopping for supplies during their off time. Sunny is a DISGUSTING morning person (TM) and Moon always stays up until Sunny goes to bed- just to make sure he's actually going to sleep! They care about each other a lot its just hard to tell with all the small arguments they have

Now I dont have very much on the others, but ill explain what I have right now.

Roxanne and Chica are girlfriends, and Chica encourages Roxanne to go to therapy. Chica is a very supportive girlfriend and always sticks with Roxanne- even if she's being an asshole!

Chica often steals pizzas from the kitchen, even though she's one of the owners of the place she always gets told she shouldn't be doing that. She has her fitness area, but is actually almost never there and is instead eating pizzas in the staff lounges. She has a high metabolism so she can get away with her "fitness" image, but we all know what she's actually doing...

Monty is still destructive, "I own this place too I can destroy things all I want!" ...yeah but think of the cost of repairing that Monty... He still wants to be the leader of the band, and often fights with Freddy about it, but Chica helps calm the situation down and they eventually make up... until Monty decides to argue again! He INSISTED on having his own big area, he wants at least some of the spotlight! When designing the pizzaplex he got pretty grumbly when he heard he was getting a golf course while Roxy was getting a whole bumper cars race track and Freddy was getting a whole Lazer tag maze, but he calmed down pretty quick when they started designing the golf course to look badass.

Freddy is the founder of the pizzaplex and big star of the band (go figure...) He keeps his incredibly positive dad personality wherever he goes, even outside of the pizzaplex. (Hes also calling people superstars even when he's off the job, great guy!) He's attempted to hang out with Monty outside the pizzaplex but it didn't go very well... Monty refused invitations to do anything with him ever since. He and Chica often hang out, most the time its for fun but sometimes they hang out when they're feeling down about Bonnie and Foxy leaving the group to do their own things. (Here Monty didn't decommission Bonnie, Bonnie just left to do his own thing! No murder of a great character here)

There are still staff bots for security, but also a lot more humans working at the place and patrolling, taking tickets, serving food, etc. Because the group is all about supporting people, and trust me they pay well for good talent!

The four aren't in their party rooms that often unless its an event like a meet and greet, photoshoot, or a birthday party that booked their time. Chica is in her room and accepting guests the most, while Monty is almost never in his.

I imagine Freddy met Sunny and Moon in their high school years after helping them de-escalate a situation with a bully. They became good friends and stayed in touch after college, Sunny and Moon were suuper happy when Freddy offered them a job running the daycare! They love children and get to play with them as a job, while getting really good pay consistently! Before the Pizzaplex they only really got money from doing random roles in plays and live action, and it didn't pay that well. It wasn't very consistent either, thats why they lived in an apartment. They're still living there because they love the darn place, they could very well afford a house but choose not to. They don't need all that space when they've got each other and the daycare!

They don't get many lawsuits or complaints at all, aside from the select few Karens and people who just had a day where nothing went their way. They make a TON of money from running the pizzaplex, and they often donate to kids hospitals and charities! They will literally close down the whole pizzaplex of they've been asked to perform at a kids hospital, they love, LOVE making people happy!

Random thoughts, they would accept wishes from the make a wish foundation, they're often stopped in public for autographs, paparazzi, or someone making a tik tok where they either ask them dumb questions or try to get them to dance with them. (Spoiler, it never works and they are promptly asked to leave freddy and his friends alone!)

Uhh... yeah I think that's all I have! I'll be drawing the designs I have in mind soon. Feel free to ask any questions about this AU, or just say nice things!

Only thing I request is- don't try to roleplay please, it makes me uncomfortable :') its happened before so I feel like I should say something!

Ossan's Love original (Japan 2018) - why do people like this, WHY?

The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese (Japan 2020) - oh it’s hot I just... don’t like it 

The Untamed (China 2020) - yeah, sorry not sorry? Not my jam, not my toast, not my fandom, not interested in arguing about it. I respect your kink but its a hard limit for me.  

Love By Chance 2 (Thailand 2020) - nope didn’t like it, have never bothered to rewatch it 

Where Your Eyes Linger (Korea 2020) - look people like it and I get it, but the total fan obsession with this one goes right over my head 

2gether & Still 2gether (Thailand 2020-2021) - possibly the one I find the most overrated on this list, oh I like it, but the amazing fan reaction? I don’t get it and never will. BrightWin are fine, it’s fine, its a serviceable romcom with some questionable content and uneven chemistry, but that’s all. I think maybe because it was a lot of people’s first BL? 

KinnPorsche (Thailand 2022) - I do not want to argue about it, for me it felt all over the place tonally, inconsistent in characterization and filming, and had a poorly executed plot that never lived up to the promise of that first trailer. The chemistry was fine but, guess what? I’ve seen better. 

Enchanté (Thailand 2022) - am I bitter, yes I’m so bitter. I wanted to like this show so much. The chemistry was good, the team was good, the production values high. Chalk another one up to GMMTV squandering talent on a terrible script. 

To My Star 2 (Korea 2022) - TMS original is one of my favorite BLs OF ALL TIME, I hated season 2 and I’m still upset about it. Oh yes I understand why they did what they did, but I am not happy about it, I don’t think the story was the right direction for the characters, and while actors stretching their shops is pleasing to watch, no matter how clever or beautifully filmed or meaningful I didn’t want to watch my boys done dirty like this. This was just another nail in the coffin of NO SECOND SEASONS iN BL. 

Fish Upon the Sky (Thailand 2021) - nope nope nope 

10 Most Underrated BLs

1. He’s Coming To Me (Thailand 2019) - for my money probubly one of GMMTV’s best BLs. Clean concept and flawless execution, good mystery, complex characters and one of the greatest coming out sequences ever put on screen. Boy and ghost boy fall in love, must solve ghost’s murder. Peak pining but also pretty tame, features my favorite sweet but important coming out sequence. The third in my precious triumvirate of unbeatable Thai BLs, that are only nominally BL because the story, acting, and production values are so good. (Together with UWMA & 1k*).

2. Just Friends? (Korea 2009) - just so cute and hot and fun and no one knows it exists. Boyfriends, one of whom is on military leave, trying to decide on coming out and the future. 

Find it on GaGa and also YouTube sometimes. 

3. Seven Days (Japan 2015) - the best BL as a pure unsullied yaoi sourced piece of sweetness, I will eventually convince every one of my followers to watch this if it’s the last thing I do on tumblr. One of the best live action yaois ever made, with perfectly structured angst, fantastic characters and acting, and no problematic tropes (rare in Japanese BL). The leads have excellent chemistry although it’s low heat there’s still some really cute mutual kisses.

You have to haunt YouTube and grey sites like dramacool or this one, but I promise it’s worth it. 

4. Long Time No See (Korea 2017) - high heat, violent, hella gay mafia hitmen falling in love even though they are on opposite sides of a turf war. Honestly WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT? You are not allowed to even mention KinnPorsche to me until you have watched this. I will accept no arguments on this matter.

This is on GaGa (sometimes) and I think you can pay to play on Vimeo too. 

5. HIStory 2: Right or Wrong (Taiwan 2018) - everyone loves Crossing the Line but I also really like the companion piece too. This is a teacher/student power dynamic, tsundere/sunshine pairing, plus cohabitation with themes of self acceptance and family domesticity. It's a slow burn but high heat (and that heat is good). The uke is out gay, the seme is unapologetically bi, and it's the first time Taiwanese BL flexed its marriage equality muscles. Triggers includes some verbal and physical gay bashing (not from the seme) and child abandonment/neglect (yes from the seme). The second half it a lot better than the first. Ending is VERY happy.

6. Dark Blue Kiss (Thailand 2019) - I adore PeteKao okay? This is probably my favorite GMMTV product. Bite me. This is classic Thai BL with a university setting, great acting and complex characters, one of my favorite friendship groups, friends to enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers, multiple angsty af coming outs, including a long stretch of a secret relationship. Early GMMTV high production values, good chemistry, BL side couple, lots of classic tropes and some great domesticity.

7. My Day the series (Pinoy 2020) - kinda the definition of underrated, it’s a fun campy high heat pretty boys being hot messes and I love it and no one else is with me on this. The set up on this one is enemies (also boss/employee) and they don’t like each other to start. But that gets resolved pretty quickly. And then they are some of the cutest, hottest, and best boyfriends ever. This is an under-appreciated BL, IMHO.

8. Wish You (Korea 2020) - one of my favorite Korean BLs and it is quiet and sweet and earnest. Crickets. Set in the music industry featuring a talented singer and the pianist who falls in love with him (and his music), subtle and achingly adorable. High production, low heat, short run, very tame, and Korea, so more of a western style. It’s not the most logical story though. No coming out, exists in the “Korean BL bubble universe” where everything is just fine and dandy with the gays. 

You can find this one on Viki & Netflix, you definitely want to watch the movie version. 

9. Nobleman Ryu's Wedding (Korea 2021) - our first actual gay kisses in a historical BL with crossdressing! OMG why didn’t anyone love this as much as me? 12th Night goes BL in this cross dressing historical, that ended up feeling like a Cinderfella fairy tale, lightly dramatic and utterly charming.

In some parts of the world you can find this on WeTV, otherwise gotta go grey for it. 

10. Hay Rival, I LOVE YOU! (Vietnam 2021) - it’s short, I love it to pieces, basically no one has seen it. Two boys (jock & nerd) learn that they are both dating the same girl. At first they hate each other, but then they decide to get together and take revenge. In the process they fall in love with each other instead. 

Frankly a lot of Vietnamese Bl could go on this list including You Are Ma Boy and My Lascivious Boss.

S.C.I. Mystery (Hong Kong 2018) - honestly why does no one talk about this? Why chat about Guardian and Untamed and such and NEVER once does anyone mention S.C.I?

It was the first bromance I ever watched. This was how I learned bromances existed because I spent the whole time being like: wait are they married? Or are they cousins? No, they’re married? WHAT IS GOING ON? Then I looked up the origin.

This is such a hard question, though! I actually wrote out a whole thing about how Bakugo doesn’t really have type and what he always hones in on is someone he genuinely finds impressive (and then got tired and needed a nap)… but it was way too long for this so unless it’s requested of me… I would say (and please remember, these are just my opinions and he'd love you no matter what you're like)…

Bakugo’s type, aside from being someone who’s able to get him to stop thinking about hero work for more than 2.5 seconds… is someone not exactly like him, but someone who holds a lot of the same beliefs as him! 

I really just think he’d highly regard (and notice) someone who had both a passion and talent for what they did (no matter what is was), as well as had a dedication to either continuously improving in life, or seeking out something new if their current situation wasn’t working out. 

I also think he’s always acutely aware of people who aren’t afraid of him, and of those who he thinks he could have a real conversation with. Not about hero work, not about his past... but like actually get into it about something w/ them, whether that was bickering or a certain topic or what, he finds it Attractive(TM) when someone can keep up with him in more intimate ways than just what he’s known for. 

PLUS, intelligence. I feel like, to him, smartness would be so... UGH, you know? Like obviously, he isn’t looking for Albert Einstein out here, right? But I can see him paying attention AND loving when someone (he likes) corrects another person, or explains something... and just does smart things (that they aren’t afraid to show off) in general, too. 

(He sees you correct the sidekick trying to mansplain you and he’s like... “oh shit,” or maybe you rant to him about how dumb they are... things like that.)

But ANYWAYS, I also imagine, like... he always takes note of dedication and hard work, both talent and passion (showing off is cool, but it’s not sexy, you know? You have to enjoy it!!!), when people are kind to others unnecessarily (something that he struggles with), when people SHARE and work to include + build up others (stemming from the parts of Deku he admires)... and overall just some form of bravery, however it shows itself. 

And I went over this more indistinctly in my insecure!Bakugo piece (found here!), but I think Bakugo isn't really a touchy-feely type person, either (his love language being more acts of service than anything)... so he'd also probably lean more towards people who are more independent and self-sufficient than not... as well as someone who COMMUNICATES. He’s willing to work in relationships, yeah... but not by himself, and he’s always more excited when that’s shown to him beforehand than not. 

He’s stupid, remember? 

Honestly though, to wrap it up... I really just believe he’s the type of person... who’d really have to respect someone to want to date them... and though he’s slow to come around, his type is someone smart, thoughtful... and has passion for something that they never hesitate to express.

“cry for the moon: side H” musings

so i watched the hunter side of identity v stage episode 3 “cry for the moon” and i would like to let out my thoughts because there are so many of them and i do not know any better way of coping with my feelings.

spoilers for the stage play under the cut:

simply said, this production was leagues above episode 1, which i also hold very close to heart so you can imagine what episode 3 did to me. i’ve loved mary ever since i started playing the game almost a year ago, and to learn that there’d be an entire stage play dedicated to her. and not to mention that cecile daigo would play her role, i was already sold.

putting her character against eli, whose character (at least in the stage) is supposed to be this calm, supportive, empathetic person, i’d keep thinking how they’d pull it off, how’d they frame mary’s backstory, how everything would work out in the manor...i had so many questions. in the end, i came out so thoroughly satisfied by this stage. in fact, my friend and i cried multiple times watching this. it affected us THAT much.

story:

the story is a little straight-forward. mary is a queen who was executed by her own people. from my understanding, they didn’t allude to the revolution or anything, simply the fact that mary grew up in royalty and luxury, was taught to be high-headed, and self-centered, maintain that elite image. and in following this way of life, she ended up being extremely lonely, till everyone around her betrayed her and she was left to be executed. in the manor, now that she’s dead, she’s still very stubbornly insists that everyone treat her like royalty, that everyone else in the manor is beneath her, just so she could justify the pain from the loneliness and betrayal she felt. eli shows up, reaches out, the concept of ‘skins’ in the game is very cleverly used as a plot device, and the stage ends with mary learning about the Power Of Friendship(TM). she also learns to accept herself as a person, not as a ‘concept.’

i feel like the motives of the hunter main character seemed a lot more fleshed out. the connection to the survivor main character was established in due time, and all the pieces started fitting together as the story went on, something i found a little lacking in the first stage. like i said, it’s straight-forward and easy to digest, but still ends up tugging at your heartstrings.

characters:

mary’s characterisation was phenomenal. i’ve always been bitter about the fact that the game straight up copy pasted marie antoinnette onto her, but in the stage the creative liberties were put on full display. she’s her own character, with abundant past trauma which makes her cold and unapproachable. she’s so protective of her world view that she’d lash out on anyone and everyone who dares to change it. being called a ‘hunter’ makes her snap, makes her pissed, because she’s a queen! she always has been! there’s no way she could be standing along with other people! that’s not what she’s learned in her life time!

eli doesn’t have a lot of character moments because this was the hunter side after all, but he’s the same as the first stage. sees a lonely, recluse person, and wants to reach out. though the creators have stated that each stage is a different manor, or a different story, they’ve stuck to this characterisation of eli and i love it.

while the other hunters also had their parts, the more prominent ones were luchino and joseph. and joseph. oh goodness. his transformation from the first stage to now was something i craved for. he’s joking around with the other hunters, the other hunters also clown him pretty bad. he has a soft spot for robbie. the back and forth he shares with luchino also filled my heart with so much love. and most importantly, he’s the one who tells mary to embrace the present as it is, because holding onto the past will not do much. he fits the gap between eli and mary perfectly, and moves the story in his own joseph way. seeing him actually move on from his past and live with a healthy mindset, something we’ll probably never see in the game...it destroyed something in me.

joseph’s character also emphasises that in the confusion of whatever the manor wants from them, the hunters at least have each other. it was a very nice touch.

acting, direction, dialogue:

this is the part where episode 3 completely overshadows episode 1. cecile daigo is the star of this stage. she has once again won my heart. when she’s being cold, you’ll feel a chill down your spine. when she’s angry, you’ll physically feel that tension. when she screams and cries, you’ll have your heart sink. her dialogue delivery in any given situation hit in all the right spots. i’m still scared to go rewatch the guillotine scene because it was so incredibly painful to watch the first time.

not only that, but the way they creatively used this open stage which made the play seem so much more idv-like. the way they would place eli on one end of the stage walking in one direction, and mary would be on the other side walking in the opposite direction. or when the lights would follow them around the stage as they sang their duet, OR OR OR the way the actor playing mary’s mirror image would sync perfectly with mary, or even the way eli talks to mary in a soft, calm manner, knowing that she’s going through something very traumatic. it was all so beautifully done. the dialogues themselves were so impactful, we had to rewind some scenes just to appreciate the words properly.

music, costumes, misc:

the music. GOD the music. not only the hunter song, but also the score in the play itself. the fairy-tale like song in the fake world. eli and mary’s duet song. it was all perfect. in the end when mary returns to all the hunters with a change of heart, and ‘acclamation’ plays in the background i actually got teary eyed lmao. just the timing of everything was so spot on.

the costumes, just like the previous stage, were also perfect. mary rocking bloodbath while bride eli mopes in the background. the other characters in their alternate clothing was. something.

also. norton in a tux. phenomenal.

my personal favourite part from the alternate world was the dance, where i lost my shit two times: one, when i saw 0.3 seconds of fiopat and two, when i saw xiefan fist bump.

as a milf enjoyer, i would’ve appreciated more of marymichi but i think this one screen cap alone is enough to fuel me for the next ten years.

gotta appreciate michiko for taking the shot at the start of the play. she missed terribly, but she took a shot and that’s what matters. go get your girl, michiko.

my review could be very extremely biased, though. sorry for ending on this note LOL. i love identity v so so much and i’ve invested myself in these doll characters way too much, so actually getting to watch my favourite characters TALK to each other, be part of each other’s stories, it may have slightly skewed my perception of of the play. of course, it isn’t without faults, but to anyone who loves idv, who loves mary especially, this is a must watch. i genuinely mean the praises i’ve given to this stage play and i do not regret spending my money on this.

i’ll watch the survivor side and the comedy stages eventually and i don’t know if i’ll be making reviews for those but i just had to talk about the hunter side.

thank you so much to the creators of this stage, to all the wonderful talented actors, and a big thank you to the new writers. this was more than i could’ve asked for.

The following recounts my disastrous teen experience with love and destiny, where I was simultaneously Adrien and Marinette (from Miraculous Ladybug) with a Love Destined By Fate(TM), and my own near-love-square identity shenanigans that were the result of a bunch of dominoes set off by watching Sailor Moon as a teen with that dang elevator scene and subsequent delicious angst @lnc2 reminded me of and drop kicked me back into ancient feels over XD

The dominoes started in 1998 when a friend remarked he liked Sailor Moon. I hadn't gotten into anime yet but I respected his opinions and art talent so I gave it a try. It was horrible! The first episode I saw was the theme park one where Serena and Rei are competing over Darien and it just seemed so ridiculous and juvenile. But boredom and afternoons spent with Cartoon Network brought me back to the show and the shenanigans eventually hooked me. I was also into the image songs and hollered along to the Kid Rhino CD.

At that time I was a Junior in high school (11th grade), and one year into a deep crush with the violin prodigy in my honors classes. My oh moment literally snuck up on me the year before in the art class we shared, while "All I Want for Christmas" was playing. Instead of "is You" my brain whispered "is Crush's Name" and my world came to a grinding halt as I froze then looked over at his table and went Oh Noes.

I had it bad. But like Marinette, I couldn't bring it up to him, I didn't have the guts. And when I found out he had a long distance girlfriend, I tried to backburner my feelings. But Fate kept throwing us together. We had all the same classes together except foreign language. We both had ADHD and had seriously chaotic ene-rivals-almost-friends energy together. We were born on the same day. In every math class our seating was right next to each other, despite taking place in two different rooms, being non-alphabetical, and changing up mid year. The universe was making sure this guy stayed stuck in my head, but I was too dang slow to make a move when he ended up single again. I'd had a love letter written in wingdings ready to attach to his locker with some chocolates for Valentines and I chickened out. Then he started dating The Most Perfect Girl (seriously she was amazing. Beautiful, Top Grades, Honor Society, Track Star, and Genuinely Nice). So I backburnered again. We graduated and went to separate colleges and I've only seen him once since, but he was still in my brain rent free until 2001.

Meanwhile I was also Adrien because it took me a damn decade or two to retroactively realize all the times a guy or girl was interested in me back then. I blame being a social outcast nerd and my inability to read social cues coupled with being conditioned to never trust anyone being nice (because it was usually a trick to go Ha Ha she fell for it).

I did finally date some in 1999 but it didn't pan out. My next relationship was in 2000 online, part of the Sailor Moon dominoes.

College in 1999 gave me Ethernet and SenshiTV.dhs, which had all of Sailor Moon from S3 onward subtitled in two part downloads. That meant I could watch Part A as Part B downloaded, then watch the second half of the ep while downloading the next Part A. I spent many nights not sleeping due to this, no regrets. I discovered the original soundtrack and supplemental image songs and fell in love with them. This transferred to the Ronin Warriors and Gundam Wing soundtracks, too. Finding music that wasn't a midi was trickier back then, til community College in 2000 when a guy pointed me to AudioGalaxy, a peer sharing site for any and all music.

Each genre or artist had its own message board, and I settled into the Gundam Wing Message Board where I met a lot of people I'm still friends with today, including @absentlyabbie and my Hub. The message board was a text based RP hub, a hodgepodge of fantasy and sci-fi from various popular anime at the time plus Just Plain Random. I ended up cyber dating one of my RP partners, and our character pairing was a popular one on the main non-Gundam RP. But after we met in person we just didn't work out, and I couldn't find any peace when I logged in to RP or join the board or AIM chats because our friend group kept bemoaning how OTP we were.

So... I made another login, complete with new AIM name, so that I could still hang out but be left to my own devices as I swore off men. Of course, as soon as I did, I was hit with another Oh moment with one of my friends in the RP group.

We were on AIM doing something and he used his lightning ability. My secondary character, Eve, went something weebish like "ooo, inazuma no karada". Then I realized I hadn't picked quite the right words, so I had my original account, Kitz, laugh at me and call me out for talking about Storm's naked lightning body.

Somehow after that we ended up together as Storm and Eve, both in RP and out, while I wingmanned for myself as his other friend Kitz (he was one of my supports and confidante after the breakup). We spent Thanksgiving together in 2003 when I was visiting my Aunt in his home state, then he moved in with me in 2005. We got married a bit later and have two kids together.

As an aside, our RP characters had twins, then months later his RL sister got pregnant with twins. A few years later our characters had another child... and so did she. We decided our characters were done having kids then, lol.

But yeah... because I watched Sailor Moon after randomly overhearing a friend mention it, I ended up overcoming my not-so-fated crush and have had a wonderful 20 year relationship with my best friend (we spent years watching the same shows together over the telephone).

On a different branch of those dominoes I also met @silentmagi and @brushfeathers-thoughts and was introduced to furries which is how I finally realized I'm Bi, Ace, and Nonbinary. But that's another story!

we interrupt the usual fanwork spam with some original stuff. This is Ilassan, a character I've developed around 16, so god damn it, 16 years ago or so. I even wrote a story with him at 17/18 and tried to get it published. Ahhhh, of course, I was too silly to know that other kids who get works published at 18 know the right people in the industry and thus get to become "storytelling prodigies", same as JKR was a poor single mom writing on tissue paper, and it has less to do with real undiscovered talent. That, or self publishing on Amazon, which thank god is a little more accessible now, but was definitely not an option back in 2006 (it's for the best).

The real gimmick was when Avatar came out, and the few friends who'd seen art of him told me "hey this kinda looks like those cat people you used to draw!", which of course to me translated to "so then if someone beat you to it, why bother", and it had all been scrapped. But it still lives in my head and heart I guess?

So in my youth, when I was still big eyed and energetic and passionate and nerdy and hadn't had my self esteem and creativity completely eroded, I'd decided to write a low fantasy AU of history, as many do. And it had a lot of stories, spanning dinosaur age to present times. Because I was a really creative child (bless my heart). And yeah, it had everything. Because back then I thought it'd be a cool idea to mix mythology with science and history. You know, the whole "well see, dragons exist in several continents so what if dragons were really real but vanished magically somehow" or whatever. A lot of stuff was scrapped from then, but some I've kept into what eventually became the single, isolated, standalone story some of you have heard / seen snippets of. The whole WW2 AU thing, which I GUESS is a dead giveaway that it's gonna transcend into urban fantasy sooner or later, but that's where my hints for it end.

Well, alongside the many other stories, there was Ilassan's.

So, I used the whole multiverse / wormholes / aliens thing in the setting, because of fucking course I would. And I also used the alien sightings on earth mixed with mythology - and bam! The Fae were an alien species that used wormholes to travel to earth (and spawned in mushroom rings. Fuck it). Well, back on Fae-land, a long long time ago, there was civil unrest. There's several subspecies of Fae, with a common ancestor but different evolutions. Think Neadenthrals and Sapiens, for example. So there were the Noble Fae, who were more evolutionarily blessed, and a few different fae more suited for other environments. Such as the Wild Elves (wow creative yes), of which Ilassan is, who were adapted to live and hunt in forests and mountains - a lot more agile, and a lot more catlike looking than the 'blessed' Noble Fae, and thus deemed by them too bestial and inferior. Yes. Fantasy racism at its finest. What can I say? I read a lot of fantasy growing up.

So to avoid the civil wars, a lot of Wild Elves simply traveled to Earth (or other planets) via the wormholes, and settled in suitable environments thereabouts. But of course, this is fantasy racism, so the British standins eventually followed through to exterminate them. So back at 17 or whatever, what I used Ilassan for was the very basic storyline of "the british elves invade, he gets separated from his sister Aissa, he spends years trying to find what happened to her with the help of a ragtag team of allies, and eventually faces the Big Bad Elves (but is captured in the meantime)". I remember he originally died to save a friend but that's been long since scrapped.

Well, over time the story shifted to a totally different take, and the one I do eventually want to return to covers a time of him already being a prisoner to the Big Bad Elves. See, as you may know from mythology, humans can get lost in Fae Land too, not only Fae visiting us. So there was this human girl, Kendra, who's a tomboy/transboy, and who gets lost in Fae Land. Fae welcome Kenny with open arms until the point she starts being all "stop expecting me to wear dresses and jewelry god damn it." At which point they're like bad girls go scrub the prison shit, and send Kenny down to the prison, where she and Ilassan bump into one another, eventually planning an escape together. This story dates back to 20 fucking 14 or so, but I've also discarded it for being too on the nose. Surely, noone wants to read about an allegory of "normal" society shunning queers and people of color, huh? Well, times fucking change and now that's a super popular subject, so I've been more and more tempted to write it out. At least I know there's a possible audience now, whileas back then I was simply trying to write my own experiences being shunned by other people for being gender non-conforming, and when I presented it to my very straight very gender conforming friends for opinions they were kind of doing the whole "ha ha <transphobic jokes>" thing. Oh well. Times change I guess.

So I gotta admit, this short story has been burning and itching more and more to get out throughout this year. Maybe I'll have the time for it, maybe not, who knows. But I sure have the time to answer questions if any of you have any, since I tried to keep this as short as possible to not bore anyone, cause idk if there -really- is possible interest? dunno.
