Hello Mobim lover anon!🤗 Don't worry I remember you, since your ask was quite recent and I'm glad you enjoyed last time's post about Mobim☺I'm also happy to see demons like Mobim and the eye-like creatures getting appreciated✨especially because I'm not sure how they would be canonically viewed in Obey Me honestly🤔Anyway, before starting, since you didn't specify "RAD classmates with MC", I assumed you meant just a scenario between MC and the other little monsters for this ask🙈I hope I understood correctly😣if I didn't, please feel free to tell me so,in that case I'll try to fix the problem as soon as I can😢Now, moving on to your ask:

MC BEING FOND OF ODON'S EYE-LIKE CREATURES (+MOBIM)

Odon's eye-like creatures have each shown to possess different behavior traits, so MC may receive conflicting answers depending on which creature they interact with. Usually only two eyes are mainly shown in public, one rather cheerful and playful while the other serious and exasperated. MC would have no problem dealing with the first one, it would prove to be a rather affectionate, cordial creature and willing to be scrambled, provided MC doesn't touch it right in the eye with fingers or other objects, because if they did so,even on accident, both creatures may lash out involuntarily out of pain.

Besides that point, bows and ribbons would be not only cute, but also pratical, useful for distinguishing them, as it is particularly difficult to do so and the stickers and painting would be an interesting experience for them, having never tried anything like that on skin, however it would be safer to use non-harmful products and then help them remove them after a while, for although they are hardy, they have no arms to clean themselves with and it is unknown what effect human products might have on them,still they appreciate being asked for consent and MC's concern for them. As for the other eye-like creature, the grumpy one, it would show a little more resistance to being touched,playing hard to get, despite secretly wanting to feel MC's affection too and in the end, it would join the fun, still a bit jealous with Mobim in the same room, who would not understand the situation or notice the glare of the grumpy eye, therefore limiting itself to gladly helping MC to decorate the creatures, to arrange the details and in turn act as a model too.

The eye-like creatures and Mobim, if we don't count the slight jealousy present when MC has to decide who to spend their time playing with, get along quite well and help each other both for serious things and for activities such as playing together,after all they're all very fond of MC and they don't want to upset them.

Basically, the eye-like creatures would respond with silent enthusiasm, some more and some less, but there is something MC should be aware of: although usually only two eye-like creatures manifest, these monsters just like Odon's limbs in their demon form are multiple and by taking care of them with love and care, there is the risk of attracting a whole up to ten or more of these creatures, waiting for their turn to receive their dose of affection from MC and some even from Mobim. In that case MC could boast, feeling like the most protected and kept in sight human of Devildom, but perhaps it would be better to avoid such situation, because taking care of so many different eye-like creatures and distinguishing them with bows, stickers and paint could be complicated,so perhaps it would be better to limit to three creatures only for the moment, namely the two main eye-like creatures (who Azul once playfully named Bob and Rob-) and Mobim

Ebony Jewelwing - Calopteryx maculata

Goodness me, I’m thrilled to showcase this bejeweled, metallic green, magnificent insect after its been absent from this blog for such a long time. Honestly, I was beginning to wonder if I would ever find one again around the neighborhood. Fortunately, they were in season and there were a good handful to be found by the water, basking in the sunlight (in a sort of obelisk position). Depending on the angle and lighting (along with individual variation), their color might be more blue than green, but they are still elegant to observe. Compared to all other Damselfly species on this blog (at time of writing), this specie belongs to the Broad-Wing Damselfly family (Calopterygidae), distinguished by the widening curve of their wings compared to that of Coenagrionidae, or Narrow-Winged Damselflies. Me personally, the wider winged Damsels might just be the way to go aesthetically: with little particles trapped on their wings, the widened shape, the network of veins and the dark color, they resemble a beautiful starry night. A flitting one at that as these insects flit and flutter around plant life to navigate rather than bursting suddenly with great speed.

On Pictures 2 and 9 the flitting behavior was captured while at rest. When you observe these insects yourself, you’ll see a sudden opening and closing of the four wings. It’s quite elegant, and likely a way of stretching the flight muscles or keeping the warmed up for a sudden takeoff. Though their flight isn’t as powerful as their Odonate relatives, the Dragonflies, the flitting makes them bouncy and agile, allowing them to catch insects quite suddenly, snaring them with their dainty, but hairy legs. Notably, their front most legs are lined with hairs to restrain small insects. Furthermore, despite their bouncy flight, the control of their ability to change direction and suddenly turn is remarkable. You’ll need to move slowly and softly to try catching one of these beauties (I did catch a few in hand, but they promptly flew away after). Finally, the wings hide another secret which will be expanded upon in Friday’s post. Looking at the wings will help determine whether your found Damsel is male or female. These particular individuals are male as female wings have a beauty spot. Look forward to the next post; you’re in for a trove of beautiful ornate Odonates.

Chapter:03

“What are you doing?” Nova asked in a low voice.

She had woken to see a bloodied John Murphy in front of her, he was untying her. Nova noticed he had also brought ‘normal’ clothes, along with a knife.

“Soon as you get the chance to run go and don’t look back.”

The screaming woke her. Flickering her eyes open, they quickly adjusted to the brightly lit room for her to see nothing but white. At first Nova thought she had died, and this was the bright light people used to talk about. But she wasn’t dead, just trapped in hell. The screaming was her own.

The man in the hazmat suit was pulling the tube out of her arm, it was then she heard the drilling noise again. Nova wanted to beg for the pain to stop, but she was too proud. A grounder would never plead for their life.

“Thank you...” Nova couldn’t believe he was helping her escape. “Why are you letting me go? Won’t your people be mad?”

The sky boy didn’t answer her question. He had dried blood around his nose and mouth, but what Nova noticed most was the way his fists were shaking. Looking between his hands and his face, the grounder recognized the look on his face. Murphy had murder on his mind.

Nova’s body creaked and ached while she tried to get comfortable in the small cage they locked her in. The room was full of grounders from different clans being healed against their will in...whatever the place was.

“Psssst!”

Nova looked up to see the grounder in the cage above staring down at her. “Treyton?” She had seen his face before in her village. He couldn’t have been any older than sixteen.

“Cadeau has been going koken lufa au Yu, she mous don frag op those Tu fools when she learnd chit emo don dula gon You. She don bilaik convinced gon kom daun gon tondc gon huk op birth.” ‘Cadeau has been going crazy searching for you, she almost killed those two fools when she learned what they have done to you. She had to be convinced to return to Tondc to give birth.’ The young grounder informed her.

Cadeau..her pregnant sister shouldn’t be worried about her. Nova should be looking after her, instead of being trapped like an animal ready for slaughter. “Ha dula op Oso get au kom hir?” ‘How do we get out of here?’

Treyton shook his head. “Oso na't. Guards surround Disha place, emo na frag op Yu raun spot taim emo ai op Yu trana gon escape.” ‘We can't. Guards surround this place, they will kill you on the spot if they see you trying to escape.’

Nova grimaced when she felt drips of blood landing on her arm. They must have put the young grounder through hell for him to still be bleeding. “na fig au a edei gon get yumi au kom hir!” ‘I will find a way to get us out of here!’

The door to the room opened again as guards checked the cages to see who was still alive, and who had succumbed to their injuries. Three grounds had died. Nova tried not to scream or cry when a guard hit her with a stick that sent an electric shock through her body. At least she was still alive to feel the pain.

Running through the woods, Nova still hadn’t been able to shake who was following her. She didn’t think it was anyone that fell from the sky. They wouldn’t have been capable of sneaking around so quietly.

Nova let out a squeal when she tripped over a branch and landed on the ground with a thud. Men in strange suits with guns quickly surrounded her. As Nova tried to move an object struck her on the back of the head.

“Chit don dula Skaikru dula op gon Yu??” ‘What did the sky people do to you?’ Treyton asked once the guards left with a new victim.

“Eintheing, emo jos questioned Ai. Emo became i’ll kom gona virus. Ai didn’t get in anya don gaf gon infect emo.” ‘Nothing, they just questioned me. They became i’ll from the warrior virus. I didn’t know Anya wanted to infect them.’ Nova confessed.

Treyton shook his head. “Sha, she was meizen pissed gon chit happened gon lincoln. Skaikru tortured em.” ‘Yeah, she was pretty pissed at what happened to Lincoln. The sky people tortured him.’

Nova pressed her lips into a thin line. She could believe it, the one called Bellamy probably would have done worse than pull her hair if they were alone. He was full of anger and wanted some kind of revenge. “A gada called Okteivia don trana gon help. also boy dane en lamos kept honon helped Ai escape. He could yu don bash op Ai, ba choose gon help instead.” ‘A girl called Octavia tried to help...also the boy Dane and Lamos kept prisoner helped me escape. He could have hurt me, but choose to help instead.’

Treyton gave her an unconvinced look. “Skaikru can’t na trusted. Gon bilaik get in boy might yu don been handing Yu odon gon maun hef.” ‘The sky people can’t be trusted. For all you know the boy might have been handing you over to the mountain men.’

“Ai don’t fig raun krei. he was trana gon help Ai.” ‘I don’t think so...he was trying to help me.’ Nova stopped talking when a loud screaming noise echoed down the hallway. She looked up at Treyton who was visibly scared. “Oso na get through Disha.” ‘We will get through this.’

“Ai hope krei. It’s a shame Yu don’t yu don you’re bow en arrow nearby, na Yu tech Ai ha gon mana once Oso get au?” ‘I hope so. It’s a shame you don’t have your bow and arrow nearby, can you teach me how to aim once we get out?’ Treyton asked in a slight chuckle.

“i'll make Yu finest archer raun houd.” ‘I'll make you the greatest archer in the world.’

Backstory

Fernando [Isamu] Diaz is Yukiko and Haruki's Father, and Jun, Raymond and Summer's Grandfather. Formerly, he's Pastry Chef at hotel in Sapporo. In the past, He lives at Madrid, Spain.

After Fernando graduated university, he work as Pastly Chef at hotel in Madrid for 2 years.

Until once day, Fernando saw job advertisement at hotel he worked saying, At hotels in Sapporo, Japan need chefs and pastry chefs in his workplace for chefs who are interested in working abroad. At that time, he heard about Japan. But he don't know about detail and lauguage much. That moment, it made him interest and want to know about Japan.

Days later, Fernando decided to apply for a job for 1 year. Later after his parent know about it, they was sad and didn't want him to leave home to another country. He know, he don't want to upset his parent, especially his mother. But, he decide to work as pastry chef at Sapporo. That moment his father realize, his son was old enough to take care of himself. Although he didn't want his son leave him, but he understand and support him.

Months later, he leave his parent and Spain to Sapporo. He work as pastly chef at hotel in Sapporo and lives at that city. While he work and lives in Japan, he study japanese language and learn about Japan like culture, foods, desserts, people and other. It made him love Japan little by little. At that time, he started don't sure if he want come back to Spain or not.

1 year later in once day, while Fernando is relaxing at Odori Park. he met Tsubaki, she sit close and greeting him. That moment he can saw, Tsubaki is difference from other japanese womans. Tsubaki isn't shy to talk someone like him, especially when he's foreigner. Then, he started fall in love her.

While he started a relationship with Tsubaki for months. He learn many detail about Japan from her. That moment, she made him love her more than before. Until in once day, he decide to married to her and live at Sapporo with her, since then. Although he know, his parent was sad way he made decision to lives in Japan instead of coming back to Spain. He still lives at apartment with Tsubaki.

1 year later, Fernando and Tsubaki has daughter is Yukiko (Nieves). He decide to come back to Madrid to visit his parent with Tsubaki and Yukiko (at that time, she was baby). At that time, he don't sure if his parent accept his wife and his daughter or not. But after he met his parent, they're happy to see him again. They glad, their son found someone he love likes Tsubaki. Then, they're happy than before after they see their first granddaughter, Yukiko.

3 years later, Fernando and Tsubaki has son is Haruki (Luciano). Fernando became diligent and hard work than before, because he tried to save money to shophouse for his small dessert shop. Because he plans to open a dessert shop and live in that house in same time. while, He practicing make japanese desserts, and he has idea to make some spanish desserts introduct to japanese people know about spanish desserts.

Few years later, Fernando has enough money to buy a small shop for dessert shop. He decide buy and take his wife with childs (Yukiko and Haruki). Since then, he lives at that house and sell desserts. While, he still work as pastry chef at hotel in same time.

Years later after Fernando retire from his work, he works at his dessert shop as pastry chef and dessert shop owner in full-time, since then.

Tsubaki [Camellia] Diaz is Yukiko and Haruki's mother and Jun, Raymond and Summer's Grandmother. Formerly, she's Veterinarian at Sapporo. She was born and raised Furano.

After Tsubaki graduated university, she want work as veterinarian. But at that time, her mother don't want her going work. Because, her mother want Tsubaki to stay home and help her with housework as other womans (Tsubaki's mother is old-fashioned). While, her father is okay if his daughter want to work (Tsubaki's father is modern for Japanese people in old time). But her mother disagreed what her daughter and her husband thought. Then, Tsubaki had an argument with her mother, while her father tried stop them. That moment, she decide to moved to Sapporo.

Later day later, Tsubaki left her house to the train station to move to Sapporo without talking to her mother.

While her father was out to work, he saw his daughter walking out of the house. He knew she was going to the train station. So, he quickly left the house to go to the train station. While she was waiting for the train, she saw her father rushing to her. He begged her to go home. But she decided to go to Sapporo to work as Veterinarian. That moment, her fathe was sad. Because he didn't want her to leave him to Sapporo. But, he respected her decision. Tsubaki promised her father, she would contact him soon after she arrived Sapporo. Few hours later, The train go to Sapporo arrived. So she said goodbye to her father. Then, she left Furano go to Sapporo.

Hours later, Tsubaki came to Sapporo. Later, she lived in an apartment in the city. Few days later, she work as Veterinarian at animal clinic in Sapporo. Since then, she live in Sapporo.

Until 1 year later in once day, while Tsubaki came to Odori Park to relax. She met Fernando, he sits on a bench alone. She walked closer to him, she can saw he's foreigner. She started interest in him.

While Tsubaki started a relationship with Fernando for months. She can saw, he's friendly to everyone and very gentle to her. Plus, he's interested in everything about Japan. So she teaches everything about Japan as she's Japanese. She started fall in love him than before.

Until once day, Fernando decide want to married Tsubaki. That moment, Tsubaki also want to married him. Because at that time, she love him much. Few days later, Tsubaki came back to Furano with Fernando. At that time, Fernando was awkward to meet Tsubaki's parent. Because, he don't sure if her parent like him or not. Plus he's foreigner, and he isn't japanese as them expect.

Hours later, Tsubaki arrived to Furano and met her father was waiting at train station. Her father is very happy to met Tsubaki again. Then, her father said about her mother to her. After Tsubaki moved to Sapporo, her mother was gulity to Tsubaki much. She shouldn't be too strict with to what she want to be and love. Then Tsubaki said her father, she felt guilty and want to apologize to her mother, after she had argument with her mother when 1 year ago. Plus she afaird her mother don't accept Fernando is foreigner. Her father understand her feeling, and he saw and can accept that Tsubaki love her boyfriend much. Then, her mother come to train station and crying. Because she heard everything what Tsubaki and her husband said, it's true. Then, Tsubaki just hug her parent and apologize them. Later, she introduct Fernando to her parent.

Few months later, Tsubaki married Fernando. Since then, She came to live with him in the apartment where he lived at that time.

1 year later, Fernando and Tsubaki has daughter is Yukiko (Nieves). Tsubaki came to Madrid with Fernando and their daughter, Yukiko to meet Fernando's parent.

3 years later, Fernando and Tsubaki has son is Haruki (Luciano). Tsubaki still work as Veterinarian and take care any houseworks as Housewife in same time. At that time, Fernando plans to save money to buy shophouse for open a dessert shop and live in that house in same time. Plus, she and Fernando have 2 childs, they need big house for them and their childs. She help support her husband.

Until few years later, Tsubaki and Fernando has enough money to buy a small shop for dessert shop. They decide buy and take their childs (Yukiko and Haruki). Since then, she lives at that house with her husband, Fernando. While, she still work as veterinarian.

Years later after Tsubaki retire from her work, she works as cashier at her husband's pastry shop with her husband, since then.

I'm sorry for being so late in replying to this particular ask😥but I had a psychology exam the other day, so I took some time to rest🙈I hope to be able to respond adequately and to write interesting enough scenarios. In the meantime-

TRIGGER WARNINGS: kidnapping, violence, cannibalism(?) in Demya's part, torture(?) in Domnra's part, demonic possession(?) in Azul's part, suicide(?) in Zuri's part, dark past(?) in Odon's part

A/N: I'm not used to writing gory stuff, so this might not be the best,still if some of you are uncomfortable with such themes, please don't read-

WHAT WOULD THE RAD CLASSMATES DO IF MC GOT KIDNAPPED BY A LESSER DEMON?

DEMYA

...Let the hunt begin I guess-

Now, Demya is quite a possessive demon, so at first, at the news of MC's kidnapping, she would probably burst into tears, on the verge of having a panic attack. MC is one of the best things that has ever happened to Demya, so the idea of losing them and not having done enough to protect them causes her a lot of distress. Once the panic has passed, the rage would prevail, which would lead her to give in to her demonic instincts. Demya's senses are highly developed and her sense of smell is one of the best in Devildom, so it would take her relatively little to find MC and once she does, well...MC would hardly recognize Demya, used to seeing her usually acting all cute and smiley, however in that moment in front of the lesser demon, she would behave like a rabid animal. Not gonna lie, the fight between Demya and the demon kidnapper would end in a bloodbath and she would probably even proceed to... eat him alive, not out of hunger, but for revenge. Once Demya comes to her senses again, she would approach MC, both relieved but also scared of having traumatized her mate, considering her appearance would still be covered in blood. With MC's permission, Demya would hug them close, shivering and sobbing, thankful for getting there on time

DOMNRA (MOBIM)

Domnra, as one might expect, would be overwhelmed by blind rage, even if he wouldn't know who to address such fury to more precisely: the demon who kidnapped MC? Diavolo and the seven brothers for letting this happen? Or himself, for not being there during the crime to protect his partner? Mobim would be the voice of reason in such situation, to avert Domnra's outburst of anger, thus avoiding the destruction of RAD. Being the more emphatic and thoughtful of the two, Mobim would use the bond that binds it to Domnra to make him reflect and consider the real priority of the situation, MC. United by the common goal of saving them, the demon and his curse would use some kind of black magic to discover MC's location and once Domnra finds the lesser demon responsible for the kidnapping… his patience would run out. Now, Domnra's a sort of shadow demon and he can manipulate them at will, so he would use his skills to engulf the kidnapper in a pit of darkness, blinding them and breaking limb by limb over and over again, making sure, however, to leave them alive to make them pay and learn the lesson. The task of freeing and comforting MC during the torture would be up to Mobim and once reunited, the three of them would indulge in a tight hug

AZUL

Azul would have an unusual reaction to the news of MC's kidnapping, namely that of remaining quiet, with a blank expression on his face and someone might think that he doesn't care about what happened, but that's far from the truth and anyone who knows Azul well enough knows that such silence is a bad sign and only the calm before the storm...after all..who plans a murder out loud? Anyway, Azul has many contacts, not only with other lesser demons, but also with other creatures such as the little Ds, so it's likely that he would find MC's location through those. Once face to face with the kidnapper… the situation would take a turn for the worse. Not even MC in this case would be able to calm down Azul, not when his eyes, freckles and tattoos are a pitch black, that's a point of no return and it means that he has briefly lost his mind, moreover it isn't a form that he uses often, considering the last time he did was shortly after the Celestial War. Now, it might not seem, seen his almost angelic appearance, but Azul is still a demon and a rather sadistic one, so with his powers, he would proceed to take full control of the kidnapper's soul to crush it and deteriorate it to the point of tearing it apart, thus putting an end to their suffering. With the threat eliminated, his colors would turn a slightly duller purple, indicating fear, anxiety, and he would approach his lovely star, making sure they aren't injured and loudly expressing his relief at having found them safe and sound . Azul doesn't show it, but he would be quite shaken by the experience

ZURI

Zuri would be quite tense at the news of MC's kidnapping, but not too surprised, having foreseen the possibility of such an eventuality. After all there are demons in Devildom who would do anything to get to her, Diavolo or the seven brothers, to make them suffer or at least to collect a ransom, but the lesser demon in case hasn't counted well, because although Zuri hates similar inconveniences, she would personally act to put an end to this affront, showing how she has lost her old title of purest angel of the Celestial Realm. To find MC, Zuri would investigate the place of the abduction and track down a trail of residual magic left by the demon kidnapper in question, enough for her to use it to sense where their location is. First of all, once arrived at the place where MC is held hostage, Zuri would observe their conditions, judging whether or not it is the case to heal them with her own magic, only then she would bring her attention to the kidnapper, who would quickly enough be pinned to the ground by Zuri, with a heel pressed against their throat, enough to make it hard to breath...such a cowardly action must be punished after all and she would have no problem putting the lesser demon in their place, in the dirt where they belong, with how patethic they are. Zuri would hold their face with one hand, ignoring her claws slitting their cheeks with red marks and making sure they stare right in her eyes, before ordering with her powers to go and turn themselves in and not be seen again, inside the dungeons of the demon lord's castle, a death sentence basically. Once the rescue is over, Zuri would bring her beloved into an embrace with a shaking sigh, while making them promise to be more careful and to bring protection next time, if not from her, at least from the seven brothers

ODON

It's basically impossible for this to happen-

Normally, one or more eye-like creatures guard MC, even without their knowledge, because they care about their safety and do not want anything to happen to the human. Moreover they usually float around many areas in Devildom too, so if an abduction were to happen, they'd be the first to know and obviously they would step in, making the lesser demon run away, but for the sake of the scenario, let's pretend they weren't present that day. In that case, Odon would be surprised that someone was brave enough to kidnap MC, considering the reputation that precedes them for centuries and had it been other times, when Odon was younger, the situation might as well have ended in genocide… but Odon has changed, they've matured and they aren't what they used to be, however…some habits die hard, so…they'd make sure to act on them. Finding MC would be quite simple, the eye-like creatures would have no problem discovering their location, the only difference with the other RAD classmates would be that Odon wouldn't confront MC right away, in fact they would probably even be unaware of Odon's arrival at first, only noticing the lesser demon going outside to check out of where MC is being held captive, having sensed something off going on. MC'd hear a little commotion and then a bloodcurdling scream, before a grave silence falls, enough to cause shivers, as if the temperature dropped drastically. Eventually Odon would show themselves to their dear friend MC, freeing them and smiling softly, giving them their green wool poncho as a blanket, asking if they are all right. Odon's presence would sooth and distract MC, however what happened to the demon kidnapper, since there is no trace of them left, as if they never existed, is unknown

Happy? bfsn series finale addition!

I don’t post picturs of myself, for many reason, but this is the last time to be apart of this and I missed it the last time, so here we go lol. I don’t take a lot of selfies but did take a few when on a little family trip last month. Still covered bc of covid, but here y’all go lol

Its been a long, crazy, and bumpy ride for years. Even though I haven’t been included long I can see the struggle and relate to it. Bellarke and the 100 deserved so much better and now its over. The ship may not be canon in the show, but it is in the books, so we can be thankful for that lol

I've looked through all of your art for it and I'm already in love but I didn't know if it's a book you're writing, or a comic of sorts since you have a lot of art for it. Hi! Way To Go Paul is a story I’m currently writing with @browniefox.

The story is born out of my desire to have a main character that is truly a normal kid. No prophecy, not secretly half dragon, nothing. Just a normal dude. Also to help fill my perceived lack of more young adult and adult heroes in fiction.

Kyle is the main character - a college drop out who;s avoiding returning home, anxious about admitting to his parents that he failed their expectations of him. After he gets thrown out from his previous apartment he needs a place to stay. A friend of a friend introduces him to Eldan who is looking for housemates. Eventually he discovers that Eldan is a Fae and the entire supernatural world that lives under his nose in the town he lives comes to light. His house gradually gets filled up with roommates including Marion (vampire), Leander (fae blessed gargoyle), and Odon (ghost). Including a support cast (which I’m constantly trying to work through how to elegantly introduce to the plot) it’s mostly supposed to be driven by character arcs (I’m currently struggling with the fact that most of those start in whats planned to be the second book, making the first book lackluster), However it also follow the mystery of the various gangs in the town, specifically one that plans to use the town for something that would potentially cause disaster.

It’s easily a story that I’ve consistently been working on for the longest, and I really do intent to finish it (although currently brownie is doing revisions before i can get to the next draft).

Blue Dasher - Pachydiplax longipennis

It’s been shown before on this blog. but in case anyone needed a refresher, Odonates have a tendency to show different colors depending on whether they are male or female. The Whitetail Dragonfly showcases this very prominently as the males gave that specie their common name due to their white abdomen, but this blog (at time of writing) only has posts on female Whitetails. Those have a brown abdomen that matches the rest of their body. Here in this post, we see Blue Dashers that have come to visit the yard and these photos showcase male and female individuals and in various stages of adulthood. To clarify, all these individuals are adults (the Dragonfly nymphs are aquatic insects) but some of them have spent more time on the surface than others have. The individual in Pictures 2, 3, 6 and 10 showcase this development. This is a male gradually becoming a fully mature adult as its abdomen turns fully blue. This is called the “tween” stage, and they eyes have yet to change color as well from red to green. Goodness, nature is marvelous!

The individual in Pictures 4, 5 and 7 is a “tween” male too, but still has more patterning that has yet to transition to blue coloration and thusly a fully mature adult. Time in the sun and the open air will speed things along. Finally, we have the individual in Pictures 1, 8 and 9. This Dragonfly is a mature or near-mature female as indicated by the striping on the abdomen and the eyes transitioning from green color to red (and the lack of abdominal claspers). That said, according to Bugguide, it’s not uncommon to find a Blue Dasher female with green eyes. A female’s abdomen may also turn more blue with age, but never as saturated as the males do. From the images I’ve seen, it looks more like a blue overlay covering the abdomen with the pattern beneath varying in visibility, rather than a complete paintjob over the patterning. Looking at the abdomens of Blue Dashers (along with other Dragonflies is another good way to separate males and females but this is better accomplished with fully mature specimens (the claspers will be easier to locate).

As you’ve probably noticed in Picture 1, the female Dragonfly has its abdomen raised. It’s certainly attention grabbing, but why is the abdomen raised? Apparently this is called the Obelisk Position and is done to regulate body temperature when in the sun. Exposing less surface area to the sun can keep them cool, while more surface area exposed can warm the flight muscles. It also seems that males use this position to display their blue coloration to other males, warding them out of their territory. Coloration could serve as an indication of fitness in that case as well if a female might see it. See if you can catch a photo of a Dragonfly trying to square off with you by raising its abdomen.
