What kind of content would you like to see from me after TPiaG is finished uploading?

I’ve got a lot of storylines I could pursue that are TPiaG-adjacent (like my 5,000 branching AUs), or I could try and continue the fic chronologically somehow. Alternatively, I could start a new fic with some original PMD characters of mine— or even try branching out into some more fandoms or posting my original work!

Here’s a list of some of my stuff I’ve posted about previously to provide some ideas, but don’t feel bound to discussing them alone:

Mortality Exchange AU: A TPiaG alternate storyline where Twig manages to kill Darkrai during the Dark Crater fight and becomes his replacement as the Legend of Nightmares.

Dugtrio Day AU: A PMD2 AU about a new Hero and Partner that revolves around a time loop, how it affects the Hero, and how she breaks out of it and deals with the aftermath.

Legends Lost: An original storyline set in the same universe as TPiaG, but starring an almost entirely original cast and plot.

Peepaw + Isekai’d Cat: A duo of PMD OCs— Necrozma and the once-human litten who helps him recover his true form by giving him hope— and their daily lives.

Paradox Fam: A group of PMD OCs starring a human-turned-flutter mane and said human’s adopted mother and father, a slither wing and iron moth, who hate each other’s guts.

Team Crypt: An exploration team of PMD OCs who solve mysteries in a manner that rivals the shenanigans of Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang.

The Creeping Chronicles (at end of post): A fantasy story about bug people with trauma which has evolved rapidly and dramatically from when I impulsively uploaded a prologue in comic form.

Room 214: A stand-alone short comic about a reluctant exorcist and a friendly ghost that I think could be expanded upon into a broader storyline.

The Name-Oath: A two-part original story about a mortal woman who divorces a fairy prince after an ugly falling-out, and his desperate efforts to get back together.

THIMBLEQUEST: An original video game concept about a tiny moth knight who’s on a quest to find the seven holy thimbles and save the land from an ancient threat.

Unnamed Pokémon Gym Story: A mainline Pokémon OC that is a weather-enthusiast pokemon trainer and her golisopod who keeps bringing home injured bug-types.

OKAY SO I NEEDED SOMEBODY TO BOUNCE DESTINY OFF OF, IN A FUN AND SILLY WAY. a character who is in many ways her opposite but still hits that vein of being very silly and over the top and nostalgic.

and there is this whole genre of cringey 12 year old oc that i havent even really touched with her which is like. when you make a guy with THE MOST TRAGIC backstory who is WRETCHED and MISUNDERSTOOD and THE WORLDS SADDEST AND MOST MISTREATED ANTIHERO

so i returned to the Evil Name Generator and got:

MALICE WINTERFANG

-She was born to a pack of werewolves who ABANDONED HER to die in the cold of the winter because she was The Weakest and they couldn't spare the resources. also it was a LUNAR ECLIPSE or something and i bet werewolves hate that, probably.

-but she was saved by an EVIL ICE ELEMENTAL on the condition that she make an EVIL BLOOD PACT to carry out his EVIL DEEDS in exchange for EVIL ICE POWERS

-so she does that and the EVIL ICE ELEMENTAL raises her to be EVIL but she doesn't REALLY want to be evil.... BUT she doesnt know any other WAY...... her life is HARD and everyone HATES her because she is doing EVIL ICE MAGIC STUFF in the dang woods

-until one day she has ENOUGH and she KILLS her EVIL ICE ELEMENTAL DAD and it is VERY EMOTIONAL and her feelings are SO COMPLEX AND DARK AND MYSTERIOUS.......

-anyway she gets to keep his EVIL ICE POWERS after that but who would ever befriend her when she is so MISUNDERSTOOD AND SORTA EVIL.......

anyway i guess shes like. kinda feral and existing on the fringes of society when destiny Encounters Her and mal is sees destinys whole deal and is like "truly we are enemies on so many levels. are you here to duel me. all i know is COMBAT and LIVING IN THE WOODS and RANDOM PEOPLE TRYING TO KILL ME BECAUSE I AM AN EVIL WARLOCK." and destinys just like. "well not really. im just out here doing some kind of assignment for Magical Girl College. but i AM told that magical girls and evil warlocks are usually enemies sooooo like how evil are we talking?"

i like to think they have kind of a slow MORTAL ENEMIES to acquaintances who kind of dunk on each other to friends to ????????? sorta arc to their relationship

ANYWAY. they might kiss about it im not sure. i think ive said something about destiny being aromantic but im not sure how attached i am to that. it probably wouldnt be the first thing ive retconned about her if i do decide to change it but WE'LL SEE.

Reintroducing…

Kore Gharl AKA: Persie! 🥀

So, for those that have been around forever, like 3-4 years ago, you might remember her! Though Yume was my first WoL OC, my second was a Xaela woman Kore, but I lovingly called her Persie. She was originally of the Mol tribe, and she had pink hair and pink eyes. But since @meepsthemiqo asked about her lore the other day, I got brainworms and decided to recreate her and change up her looks and her lore a bit. So, here we go!

First, I changed her tribe to the Gharl tribe, as I thought it was fitting for her symbolism of being connected with the earth. Here’s the wiki entry for the Gharl, with a screenshot of the Gharl tribe from the cutscene of the Naadam:

Before each migration, the Gharl will fill a sacred urn with the soil of the place they just camped. This soil is then dumped upon arriving at the next location. This tradition has been carried out for thousands of years, leading people to believe that most the steppe is now all of one soil.

When the Tsagaan Sar ends, the Steppe holds a Naadam to decide who will be the new Khagan. The location of the dispute is revealed only at sunrise when the Gharl has scattered the soil.

Anyways, the next thing I decided to change was her looks, which I ultimately didn’t change much, outside of her hair and eyes. This is because she originally had pink hair almost identical in shade to Hali, but since I love Hali too damn much, and she is my only OC that I want to have pink hair, Persie had to get a makeover. I do think the brown hair and grassy green eyes are very earthy and suit her well.

Oh, and in case you’re noticing her name and nickname, yes, her Unsundered self is Persephone, and I had shipped her with Emet. I know I know, not the most original idea ever, but I tried to be a bit unique with her backstory.

Here’s a bit of her backstory, though I’m now reworking it so this is just a very short snippet: Kore was born to Arik and Zaya of the Gharl Tribe, and was their only child. Her mother died in childbirth and was raised solely by her father until he tragically passed away during a battle with a neighboring tribe, trying to protect her and the other children of the tribe. Due to the tragic loss of both of her parents at such a young age, she wanted to become a healer, and to save as many lives as she could. Kore is not a Warrior of Light like Hali is, but she does join the Scions in the course of the events of Stormblood. Her canon job is a hybrid job that I’m calling Shaman, and it’s a mixture of White Mage and Geomancer, with perhaps some other magic thrown in. I haven’t thought that through yet.

Oh and though we may all be hyped for Fanfest right now, feel free to send me asks about her if you’d like! She is also a new alt in game, which you can find her as Persephone Kore on Seraph (Dynamis, NA)! Thank you all so much for your interest in her! I might work on her more if I get more inspiration to.

I feel like if they thought Dracula’s Curse didn’t have much content, they could’ve added flashbacks or even dedicate an entire episode to Lament of Innocence. Just to add some history to the Belmont-Dracula conflict and why the Vampire Killer is so special.

He didn't care. But you know, at least he was honest when he said he didn't care. I'm side-eyeing the Deats brothers and Shankar, who talked as if they were fans and were involved in the process. Ah, but the Deats were too busy defending the sex scenes in S3E9 because "muh vampires are sex metaphors" :\

A bit more seriously, I don't think that would have been a good idea. Season 2 relies so much on flashbacks and infodumps to expose backstories. Dracula explains twice why he trusts Hector and Isaac; Hector remembers his parents when he stares at the fireplace; Isaac remembers the day he killed his former owner; Hector gets a flashback of one day he reanimated a dog; Carmilla tells Godbrand her tragic story; Hector tells Carmilla the day Dracula hired him; Isaac remembers the day Dracula hired him (and in the flashback he even explains how Dracula first saved him, flashbackception), Dracula tells Isaac of the days he used to go on killing sprees... that's just too much, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. It's a very unelegant solution: at every step of the way, the plot has to stop to turn to us and explain its characters and backgrounds, and it's a big reason I can't stand the pacing of S2.

Funnily enough, you know who never gets a flashback? Trevor. Because no one cares :) well, he does have the chance to explain his childhood and how Leon came to Wallachia... but Alucard does nothing but shit on everything he says. Because he's an asshole.

Oh yeah that reminds me! Lament of Innocence never happened in the show. They just completely forgot about it, except for Leon's... general appearance, I guess. But I'm sure it's not important :)

I remember my warriors to experience, I brought my fully lore-built clan w my character and tried to keep it as close to the books as possible (ran it it like a DnD campaign, I had the books ON HAND to reference lmao, I had also checked out a thick ass book of herbs for medicine expansion. Yes I am autistic how did you know) So hilariously, the clan ended up being 80% girls bc ALL the girlies loved the matriarchal tragic backstory w blood and guts lol. Ran surprisingly smooth despite yknow. Everything (we definitely got our share of “you’re just the Mary sue clan”) until one person joined w a backstory a lot like yours and began writing like their cat was a human person, which miffed tiny Stickler for Details young me, and on the warning to a reply of their saying that she had to engage w the other players fairly and not stand on two legs and hug Starclan cats the entire thing imploded bc ig that was a kid w connections lol. I think abt it nowadays amd I can’t imagine how annoying we all must have been LOL

okay a) that rp sounds like it ruled i bet everyone had a blast!! and b) dasasdhka i WAS that kid ngl. i can't blame people for being frustrated! it sucks when you're trying to do a scene and a neon cat with wing flies in to save the day, i myself was a power hungry child and kept undermining the deputy and leader because i wanted my oc to be a high rank (it was never gonna happen, high ranks were nepotism picks). it is still fun to look back on and laugh at though

To start, there shall be a trend in these ships that boils down to “brooder and comforter.” One half of the couple is a bit (or maybe a lot) down on themselves and their partner is the warm embrace they need in life. The dynamic will forever and always be beautiful to me, just as much as “two pure sweethearts.”

Obanai x Mitsuri

Makes sense and 1000% compelled by it.

Obviously Obanai and Mitsuri fit that to a tee! Obanai is very clearly a broody boy and he states outright that Mitsuri saved him with her cheerfulness and smile. But it would be a massive disservice to the ship to ignore that Obanai also was Mitsuri's comforter in a way. She felt the way that he looked at her with affection whenever they were together which meant the world to her since she felt like it would be hard to love. They never judged each other and felt loved with one another and AAAAHHHHH HADKJHFLKAUHEILTHALEKTHKAEJG!

I know I've brought this up in the past but it bears repeating that I love this ship so much that I managed to work it into a college paper about depictions of (failed) romance in Japanese literature. Because, well, in a sense Obanai and Mitsuri's love wasn't successful. Let me share a bit of that essay to get my point across.

This mutual but unrecognized love is best described by the chapter title revealing Obanai’s backstory. The Japanese title is “hitsūna renjō” (悲痛な恋情) which I would translate as “a painful, miserable romance.” Mitsuri and Obanai’s feelings of self-loathing make their love a painful burden on their hearts. Even their confession is ultimately tragic, as both are in tears and on the cusp of death when their feelings come out.

Then again, the cycle of reincarnation allowed that love to continue and be acted upon. Still, this ship makes me VIBRATE with all the emotions. It's so unfair that Gotoge was able to invest me in this romance with only brief snippets and a small reassuring epilogue. And then the fandom just hammers the stake deeper into my heart. ObaMitsu. Beloved ship~!

Jellal x Erza

OOOOHHHHHH! Man, it's been forever and a half since I really watched Fairy Tail but Jerza is that ship that sticks with you (and Gajevy but that wasn't the ship asked for, now was it).

So much sense is made with the ship and it'll never not compel me.

Again, Jellal is the more blatant brooder but Erza has plenty of moments of hitting low points (and it's usually over Jellal). And again, they both act as a source of hope in each other's lives. These two knew each other as kids and they made strong impressions on each other clearly. I mean, Jellal made some strong impressions on many people for a variety of not good reasons... ANYWAYS! It makes so much sense that Erza is always holding out hope for Jellal because his turn to darkness back in the day was very out of the blue so deep down in her heart, she'd know that something wasn't quite right. And even as she loves him, Erza expects Jellal to take responsibility for his actions. You talked about it yourself when discussing this ship but with Jerza, their personal feelings don't immediately mean Jella's sins/crimes can be ignored. He has to work to right them and fix himself. Jellal changes not because he's browbeaten into it but because he wants to be better for Erza. And Jellal isn't the only one changing. Erza is able to open up and let herself wish a little more because the trauma of their history is slowly being healed. Their love is such a journey. Multiple times they're pulled apart before finding each other again. And each time they meet, they heal a little more, grow a little closer.

Lumiere x Secre

I won't say as much about these two as the others but I'm still a sucker for them!

In this case, Secre is the brooding soul while Lumiere is her comfort. She looked down on herself and her magic while Lumiere saw potential and inspiration. Lumiere gave Secre something to hope for and she gave him devotion. The way Secre's love endures over the centuries and she remembers to have hope from Lumiere's example is something that makes their love really special without them ever having to be in a relationship. We don't get Lumiere's perspective on Secre directly but the fact that he named his super special magic tool (the big spherical one) after her says quite a bit to me. She's important and special and helpful in Lumiere's eyes. Secre living on while Lumiere moves onto the afterlife is sad but he wishes her more happiness in a continuing future, even without him. It's an ending of separation but not of mourning and it's beautiful (even if I wish Lumiere could've stuck around).

Henry x Lorelei

I actually did read the fic where they meet a bit ago. It's just in my queue for reblogging. But ooooooohhhhhhh! I CAN GUSH HERE!

So I will be real, there is one detail of the ship that doesn't make sense to me. But that's Tabata's fault for making it that even low mana people feel drained by an extended exposure to Henry's mana draining. It's just unfair that really no one but Asta can safely be around him with his curse in place. So it's not on you. You made every other aspect of the ship wonderful. Henry definitely would fall for someone as openly sweet as Lorelei and her sense of whimsy is a wonderful complement to Henry's loneliness. The way he so shyly begins to talk to her is so in character and I think adding Lorelei to Henry's backstory helps explain why he's easily able to just talk to Yami and later Asta since he now has experience meeting someone new. Lorelei's Lucky Magic seems interesting (and fits in with David's Dice Magic) and well, I think it brought luck to both her and Henry. And do I even need to say it but this ship got me hooked with one fic. It may need more time in the microwave before it finds a permanent spot in my heart but... I'm digging the vibes already.

Nacht x Josele

YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

I’ve talked Nacsele before for the ask game but I’m gonna talk again!

GAAAAHHHH! The way Nacht always loved Josele and was content(?) to simply love her from afar... Josele harboring her love for Nacht when she felt he didn't love her back... It gets so messy when she's with Morgen because he truly did make her happier than words could say. But half of Josele's heart was with Nacht. And when they finally get together, after much heartache and soul searching and doubting, it's gorgeous. Nacht is so hesitant about the relationship that he doesn't even call Josele his girlfriend for a while because he still sees Josele as Morgen's love. Josele too was hesitant, not wanting to risk her happiness being destroyed again, but once she got a talking to from one of the Bulls, she embraced the chance to be with Nacht and helps him with his steps into the future.

AND I LOVE THEIR FUTURE TOGETHER! Josele never really stops mourning Morgen and the future they could've had. But she doesn't lose sight of the future she's attained with Nacht. She loves Nacht and the way he's able to forgive himself. And Nacht accepts that Josele will always have Morgen in her heart, he really wouldn't have it any other way. Nacht slowly but surely frees himself of his guilt and self-loathing to full embrace all the affection that Josele always had for him.

My ship... I love...

Hello! You've mentioned coming around to Cicero in your posts, and I'm curious about what fics made you see the light with him? I really struggle to see his appeal, and I want to wrap my mind around him but I am unsure where to start.

It wasn't exactly reading fics, it was interacting with Tesblr and my mutuals who were into him. When I started writing and taking requests quite a few people asked me to write about Cicero and I was a relatively small blog who liked writing and didn't like saying no. The more I wrote about him the more I started to understand why people were so into him, and when mutuals made OCs to smooch on him I got it. In my opinion, I think people like him because of the almost unhealthy devotion he has for the Listener due to their roles and how easy it is to make that romantic. And the fact that you can actively choose to save him in Cure for Madness against the wishes of like, every other Brotherhood member is a great source of angst. The tragic backstory helps too. He's one of the few NPCs that has a memorable personality that isn't just from the fandom, it's in the vanilla game. He has an individual voice and way of speaking and so many little details about him are sprinkled through the questline that other NPCs just don't have. I think I came around to liking him because the people that like Cicero really like Cicero and I had to see what's up, and I liked their interpretations of him! To me he is a silly little guy who can also commit an atrocious crime. He can be a caretaker and a murderer. And I think that's beautiful.

ngl, this took me off guard. I rebloged that OC questions post 2 weeks ago and I thought nobody was going to send any questions so I was unprepared.

I'm taking the opurtunity to draw 2 of my oldest OCs (from high school), I even color it. (Sorry for all the people who are here for DCA art but also not sorry)

I had to think about the first question, non of my recent OCs would be considered troublemakers, then these two came to mind.

Alex can be a very polite boy but short tempered so you can assume that he's always getting into fights and causing trouble because of this.

April is very energetic and very skilled but is always touching stuff or poking her nose where she shouldn't.

So they both are always dragging each other into trouble.

For the second question, 90% of my OC has trauma lol, so I'm going to talk a little more about Alex and April.

They both lost their parents by the same guy at different times. When April was very little, her home village was razed by an evil organization who were taking the people and children with them to experiment and/or recruit them. She lost her family but was saved by her uncle and he's been keeping her safe and away since then.

Years later something similar happened to Alex. He was with his parents attending a doctors apointment when suddenly the facility was being razed by this evil organization. They had a ship lifting the entire building but something failed and everything fell to the ground causing several deaths, Alex's parents included. He lost his legs in the incident and then busted his hearing due to and explosion.

Alex was found later in very bad conditions by Aprils uncle and they rescue him. The uncle gave him new mechanical legs and get him hearing aids.

Now Alex and April are like sinblings and they both want to kick the ass of the asshole whos been causing trouble to the world.

hello all i hope im not too late to promote my fanseries here~ i admit im not all that active on tumblr (which is why my post formatting may look funky) but i heard i got some nominations from a friend so here goes! btw if you want to read sweet nature precure for yourself, you can read it on ao3 and wattpad!

for fanseries of the year… Sweet Nature Precure! i recently finished writing and publishing it as of november 2023 so why not nominate it after the three years it took to complete? this series is my precious precious baby and these girls have been with me for nearly 10 years now. writing their story has been so amazing and i can’t even begin to put into words how much this story means to me 🥹

for best lead cure… Sora/Cure Lightning! she’s the blue cure in case you weren’t sure. anyways Sora is just such a fun leader to write imo. she’s kinda your average protag being not very smart and also having a lot of energy but she also has another side to her… an insecure side that deeply fears failure and letting others down. Lightning wants the others to believe in her as leader and sometimes her insecurities get in the way of that. but in the end, she really knows how to step up and bring everyone together as a leader.

and for best supporting cure… Suzuko/Cure Thunder! the red member of the group, Suzuko by far has the darkest and most tragic backstory of the crew. her life has been incredibly difficult from being kidnapped at a young age to being brutally tortured and beaten through her training to become one of Pollution’s best soldiers. of course she all goes along with it in hopes of getting the chance to finally return home, but unexpected things happen. she decides to pretend to become friends with Sora and Emiri in hopes of defeating the Precure, but instead she ends up loving them and when she risks getting killed for failing to complete her mission to defeat them, instead Suzuko is saved and given the chance to redeem herself by becoming Cure Thunder and fighting alongside the same friends who saved her life. and while changing sides doesn’t erase the years of pain and loss she experienced, Suzuko is determined to heal and move forward as best as she can. (can you tell who my favorite is lol)

some fun facts about my oc eden bc talking about them always makes me incredibly happy ♡

in almost every verse they are seen wearing a cross around their neck. in the book dead n30n itself, that cross was a direct gift from god. in other verses, it has varying meanings. the cross is later discarded with despair after solstice discovers the true coding hidden within themselves

each of their eyes has a tiny gilded clock face on it! curiously, both the hour & the second hand are stuck on the number 12. if you ask them why, they cannot answer you :)

when solstice discovered what 'gender' was, they voiced openly they thought it was an incredibly stupid concept. by that point, they'd met so many different people of different identities and it appalled them to think that humans once boxed themselves into such a small role, esp bc those things don't exist in heaven

solstice has an affinity for anything with lavender in it. you'll find their favourite foods & scents involve lavender

sol almost ALWAYS wears coats. don't ask me why, they just really enjoy big and fancy coats. since weather and temperature do not affect them, it could be 100f and they'd still wear a huge coat lmao

the metal piece on their eye is a gift from someone. it's also the reason they can now process and feel emotions, but the backstory behind it is fairly tragic

solstice likes to wear glasses not because they need them ( why would a 7 foot+ celestial robot need glasses ) but because a little girl once told them they looked really cool with glasses. now they're determined to 'always look cool' so they can fit in with humans

neither food nor drink is something they actually need, but are things they just enjoy for themselves. they love indulging in them when they can

solstice can't fucking cook to save their life. this applies in ALL verses lmao please DO NOT let them near a stove i'm begging you

solstice does not sleep, nor do they dream. but they wish they could. it's a strong aspiration of their's to be able to one day dream. instead of sleeping, they go into what's called a 'temporary stasis' where they funnel all of their internal functions into a low-power mode and recharge themselves instead

ACTUALLY piggybacking off that ask I guess I've never explained WHY Somnia is so important to me. So I guess there's not a better time than now to explain the backstory of how Hypno is my secret #1 favorite Pokémon that I don't talk about

Amazingly this story starts of when I was like. A really little kid. First learning how to read. I had this book called The Dream Eater where a little kid helps a town plagued by nightmares after saving a baku, a mythical Japanese creature that eats nightmares. It was one of my favorites growing up.

When I got into Pokémon (like really into Pokémon, I've been interested since I was 4 but I only started having my life revolve around it when I was 11 or so), I realized that Drowzee was based on the same legend, so naturally I grew to like them a lot. The thing was that I was also starting to get invested in Pokémon Creepypastas around that time, so it was impossible to ignore its evolution's... reputation. Not to mention how comfortable some people were making jokes about said reputation in reference to me liking them. When I was a child.

I really hated that this seemed to be all people could talk about when it came to this cute little fictional animal. In a weird way, it reminded me of how people act like sharks or snakes are evil (both of which I was also an avid defender of when I was younger lmao). In my frustration, I wrote a now-lost "parody" Hypno's Lullaby where a Hypno was abandoned after evolving even though she was the Specialest Most Nicest Pokémon in the World. The Hypno in this story was named Somnia. While the original version of the story is gone and I haven't gone through the trouble of finding my old art of her, I did redesign her in early 2023:

Around the point of her redesign, as well as me deciding I wouldn't rewrite the story on account of it being more or less hate art for another story lmao, I decided that if I ever found a shiny female Drowzee or Hypno, I would take extra good care of her and have her be Somnia's "good ending". Lo and behold, a few months later, I found one during Safari Week. As I'm friends with a couple people who do Ribbon Masters, I decided I would do the same for her. And now, instead of a haggard, tragic Poképasta OC, this is Somnia's official final design:

The world may be against Hypno, but I am it's strongest soldier. We have been bonded since my childhood and I refuse to let people continue to tarnish its name with their gross and cruel idea of jokes. Hypno is a cute Pokémon and I'm tired of pretending it's not

Now I just need them to add Hypno to Pokémon Sleep so we can come full circle /j

Still my favourite concept art of hers, even though I now think it's worth a design change

She came to my mind when I was trying to imagine some new interesting fatality, and the character image for it completed itself

The first concept art in digital

Very inspired by the cartoon Mavka(2023), even though I never watched it in full. But apart from the very concept of a mavka(and hair colour), they hardly have anything else in common.

Despite the fact that I almost always present it in the context of mk1, Yaryna's backstory is based on the "canon" of older games.

Briefly, she asked Fujin, who had stumbled upon her forest during his wanderings, to help save her home village. She was magically bound to the tree she lived in and there was little she could do, she said. So Fujin paired her with this very tree so she could bring justice. At the time I thought it sounded logical and you can back me up on this(or make me faced with the truth).

She had to deal with everyone she thought was to blame for the troubles of her own village and soon decided to accompany Fujin on his journey for a while in gratitude for his help.

When I was making up this story I remembered all the drawings of this wind god, where he had lots of flowers woven into his braid. It seemed really cute.

Because there really aren't a lot of cute things about the story about her. She was born in 1904, died when she was 17 and turned into a mavka because she died very tragically. Due to this, a lot of human concepts in her mind became very distorted.

The man she loved very much in her lifetime betrayed her and so the meaning of her "postmortem" became the search for that very true love. The standards for this true love are vague and unspecific. However, she almost always gets tired of the new object of interest quickly and if it somehow causes her some negative emotion by this time, she will most likely end up very badly.

She doesn't really have evil intentions, but she doesn't rate her cruelty as something bad and scary, as in her mind it is always fair. She has an ambiguous morality - Yaryna helps those who help or can help her, without much distinction between "good" and "evil". She can also lie if it makes things easier for her. But she always keeps her word, is quite grateful, and gets attached to people who just might be close. Of course, she is childishly naive and easily disappointed in them, but if you survive this period, then in addition, she will wake up with sincerity and regret. She can learn to really appreciate what she considers valuable and stand for it. At least I'd like to see her do that.

10. How do you deal with art block?

i usually take a break if i can! whether a total break from drawing or a break from a project if i hit a wall. looking at other stuff that inspires me helps a ton, whether it's movies, games, music, whatever. sometimes i don't feel like drawing again for a week or more, and that's fine!

i'll save you all from the tragic backstory but i'm coming off the back of a huuuuge burnout/art block right now because of university stuff, so i'm trying to remove all of the pressure from drawing for me. really, the best thing has just been finding something that inspires me a lot and having fun with it without stressing myself out over deadlines or expectations. i've drawn more in the past 3 months than i have in a couple years, it's been nice!!

art block is usually one of two things: a need to level up skills to achieve what you want (in which case, studies, references, whatever tools help you with this) or, it's stress/anxiety around creating. it can help to figure out why you're so stressed about creating, and try to tackle that.

but sometimes you just need to go back to your roots and draw something self indulgent til you remember art is fun again. stop setting high expectations for yourself, go crazy, etc etc. art is not worth destroying yourself over or losing your passion. never underestimate the power of drawing your oc the same exact way for the 15th time. it heals the soul

8: I don't play many games myself (only Stardew Valley, Minecraft, and silly seek-and-find puzzle games) and my laptop was too tuckered for games for most of the year, but even if I'd been farming nonstop I think the game of the year would still be Final Fantasy VII Remake. Pretty sure it'll be the game of every year until it's all out, and then maybe a couple years more for good measure. I am having such an incredible time following the game as it comes out and @kaylithographica plays through it, and I can't wait to see how Square Enix keeps going with the meta and story changes.

25: Some of the more complex edits I've been trying to work on this week actually revolve around a particular OC, so we'll talk about her. Her name is Mercy, and she was not supposed to be important (folks who have lived with me may be familiar with this refrain). She was supposed to be a filler character! She's an archetype! Her name is Mercy and she has none! Grr rar tragic backstory vengeance quest knife collection! But nooo now she's got layers. She's got depth. We're emotionally invested in her character arc. Damn it. Anyway she befriends her local main characters to use them as pawns in her revenge plot, spends a lot of time with them waiting for them to vouch for her to her target, gives up her first chance at revenge because she has to go save them instead (in a scene so terribly close to the classic 'stand at crossroad, look longingly at selfish goal down the left, turn back fully on goal to run to friends down the right path' that I may rewrite it to avoid cliche shame), and then eventually gives up her scheming entirely because it would be too much of a betrayal of her very best friends the main characters. She was supposed to die in the first rescue, and then the whole story locked up and I had to go back through trying to find the writer's block instigation point, and I realized I've made too optimistic a world to kill her off without friends or redemption. She's (big sigh) thematically significant now. At least she's also very cool.

14: I'm going with my favorite book that came out this year, to help narrow things down: "The Innocent Sleep", by Seanan McGuire. Seanan McGuire is one of my favorite authors and this is my favorite of her ongoing serieses, and usually we get one a year (usually just in time to be my birthday present to myself! a joyous coincidence) but this year we got two. "Sleep No More" and "The Innocent Sleep", paired stories, one from Toby's point of view and one from Tybalt's. The current state of their world means that these two POVs of the same happenings are wildly different, and it's fascinating (a little heart-wrenching sometimes) to see. Also, Tybalt and his friends dimension-door into Costco in the dead of night and steal all their catfood. It's amazing.

18: The vegeble man had a special on collard greens one time, and I bought a 'bundle' thinking it was your standard grocery-store greens bundle, a generous handful at most. It was more like an armful. Apparently the special was because they'd been sold a literal truckload of greens (perfectly good but disqualified as 'organic' by some neighbor shenanigans) and needed to offload them quickly because the fridge wasn't ready for such a bumper crop. I cooked them in batches with andouille sausage and bacon and just a touch of this amazing miso ghost-pepper hot sauce Duncan has, and we ate them for our next four meals (with grits, with cornbread and grilled tomatoes, with fried eggs and beer bread, and then the last of them mixed into red beans and rice). I really miss not just Southern food but access to Southern ingredients (the 'andouille' sausage I get here is pitiful, and bacon is no substitute for a proper salt-ham, and neither is beer bread always a good alternative to a buttermilk biscuit or quickbread) and it was so nice to have a proper mess of greens again.

But that's not the issue. The issue is that they gave her magic powers too. Why? Maria already fills that role. Is she going to be Sypha 2.0? Are we already girlbossifying all the women? Why can't she be a normal yet brave woman?
