rugged maniac OCR 2023
i had the amazing opportunity to join one of my friends for an obstacle course race/mud run for the first time this past weekend! i’ve never run in a race of any kind really, so this was exciting as both a race and an obstacle course! the course was a 5k running course filled with like, 20-30 obstacles including climbing over walls/ladders/fences of many kinds, huge slides, rope net climbing, crawling under barbed wire through mud pits, and so much more.
i stayed with my friends the whole time and i didn’t really train, so we walked a good chunk of it. there were tons of hills, sandy trails, forest paths, and other terrain that made running even harder anyway. safe to say i definitely wasn’t running for time, just for fun!
it was so incredibly fun to push my body and just let myself have fun and go crazy. it was like an adult playground on steroids!! the endorphin rush was incredible and even a few days later i still feel so excited and proud just talking about it. i am 100% doing this again, and would recommend to anyone else who’s thinking about it!

Throwback Thursday to my first Spartan Race Stadion. This was actually my fastest time for the Sprint. The monkey bars wasn’t hard. You just have to remember not to fall or 30 Burpees. @spartanrace Thanks for the memories.

Did my first ever obstacle course run today! Was super nervous but it was a lot of fun, and I only had to skip 3 obstacles. Very grateful for my team (husb+colleagues) who helped me on a few obstacles, and a bunch of colleagues who cheered us on during the whole race and brought snacks for afterwards. Knees are bruised and had to take a long nap to recover, but overall 9/10 would do again ✨

There's something interesting to me about how these panels are drawn. From this angle, Bakugou is looking up at Shouto and Shouto is literally looking down at Bakugou.
And there's a few ways to look at this. Shouto had never been defeated by a peer up until this point. So perhaps Bakugou is shown having to look up at him because Shouto was considered unbeatable until their fight. Shouto also outperformed Bakugou in all the prior events of the sports festival until their one on one fight as well.
This effect could also be Bakugou's perception of the situation. Shouto threatens Bakugou's internal narrative that he is better than everyone by existing (see his reaction to Shouto at the Battle Trial). Therefore, he automatically assumes Shouto is looking down on him because Bakugou looks down on people weaker than himself.
Earlier in the sports festival, Bakugou wouldn't have been entirely wrong. Shouto was looking down on his peers until his fight with Izuku. But at this point, Shouto's inability to use his full potential was due to his internal turmoil and not arrogance.

Looks like the Tough Guy, the godfather of obstacle course racing, really is gone forever - combination of Mr Mouse's health problems and you can't maintain a permanent giant wooden obstacle course on two years of no entry fees.
It is insane and delightful to me that the roots of this batshit sport are in a horse sanctuary just outside Wolverhampton. I've done it four times, once each of the January, April, July and October versions. It was gloriously amateurish. The obstacles had names of dubious taste. We signed a disclaimer saying if it killed us it was "my own bloody fault for coming".
My main memories of the Tough Guy are absolute terror, punctuated by the quasi-mystical experiences you get when adrenaline and endorphins are two hells of some drugs. At one point alone in the woodland running section I became convinced I'd been taken by the Fair Folk and a hundred years and a day had passed in the real world - but then I saw the aid station and calmed down a bit. Everything about it was confusing and scary. I made an account in a mud-running forum purely to ask what the hell the instructions meant, only to be told they would never make any sense and I just needed to turn up at 10am and hope for the best. Excuse me I have agoraphobia and OCD, that is not how I roll. That aspect was legit more terrifying than, say, discovering you're not actually that keen on heights when you're out on the ropes at the top of the Behemoth and regretting the life choices that took you to this point (four times). Or the really cold water. Or their enthusiasm for electric obstacles. Or the combined electric and cold water obstacles, like Viagra Falls.
Somehow it went straight through the OTT masculinity of other OCRs and out the other side. Nobody shouted at you or made you do burpees. The course is difficult enough and everyone's having a hard time; no need to make it worse. There was the Ghost Squad, topless pyromaniac drumming Vikings in face paint who ran the warm up and occasionally popped up out of nowhere to assist and/or startle you. There was Mr Mouse in his kilt and moustache like a goddamn celebrity. There was a major gender imbalance. But it somehow didn't feel as macho as some others. It actually felt like we were all in this insanity together.

I hope that in the future the KH series continues to branch out in its artstyle exploration and doesn’t only go for 3D games. There is beauty within the original theatrym inspired mobile game, gameboy chain of memories and the X/UX trilogy(back cover not included here for obvious reason.
Original Chain of memories has faded into oblivion in a lot of ways after the release of recom. It probably survived a bit longer for less online European fans as the remake didn’t localized this side of the planet till 1.5. The portrait sprites are so expressive and it’s sad they were only brought back for the Kingdom Mobile minigames! The faces only being shown through them eliminates the engine/budget limitations KH1, recom and 2 had: character reverting to default faces mid cutscene and the difference clashing intensely.
People barely talk about Kingdom Hearts Mobile and the Avatar kingdom which remains the only kh game to not be connected to the overall story! The artstyle borrowed from theatrym and com but it was also the precursor of browser x[chi] with service ending shortly before the beginning of its successor’s beta and previews of the player being drawn in a very similar style. The arstyle even made a return with the melody of memory character loading walks!
The chi trilogy+Dark Road(as in browser x chi, Unchained and Union x) grew over time: characters got more unique animation such as the foretellers not having their own individual attack animation till the keyblade war battles, avatar parts were not separable at first and many fans rejoiced, we got to see background disney characters ignored by the main saga! Even a recurring character like Hades had memorable sprites both unique and fitting his character. Dark Road didn’t make any profit for over a year and its team was probably working with what was left from UX and whatever they could squeeze from Square Enix. IT CAME FREE! IT CAME FREE AND YET SO MUCH CARE WAS OUT BY THE STAFF AND THE ANIMATORS MAYU SHIMIZU AND MEGUMI YAMAMOTO! The amount of detail they seamed into the characters most of which had not much screentime made them feel real instead of just props for a scipt! It’s in a little dance, it’s in one character taking off their glasses to sleep and putting them back on upon waking up, it’s another raising their chin from a keyblade held at their throat!
We can even talk Classic Kingdom which was introduced in KHUX before kh3!!!  As someone who used to play these simple static background with animated foreground, it was magical! As much as i love how it came free with UX and KH3, they would have made great merch accessible both to adults and a younger audience!
Kairi Ex i just want the serie never be afraid to explore different ways to bring their characters to life.

Me, trying to sleep:
Brain: hey what about an xbc modern tech au where the gang are all street racers on the same team a la initial d
#spitblaze says things#i..........have been listening to a lot of eurobeat and hyperfixating on xbc#shulk is the team mechanic. or he WAS until reyn sprained his ankle and couldn't race. so shulk took the wheel#not only does his intimate knowledge of the vehicle give him an advantage. it seems he can sense course obstacles and opponent plays#ahead of time. one might think hes clairvoyant but lol thatd be stupid. unless...?#reyn is one of the more notable drivers on the team. he drives hard and fast and tackles corners recklessly#hes caused his teammates (mostly shulk and sharla) a lot of grief with his carelessness but being a wild card with an aggressive style#gets him some GREAT results#sharla can drive but for the most part shes on standby in case of any accidents. the team medic as it were#shes a paramedic by day so shes real good at stabilizing and first aid but shes very insistent on making sure everyone gets proper care#if someone has a serious observation to make about the turning tide of the race. its probably sharla#dunban is another one of the big racers on the team but his style is night and day compared to reyn. cool and calculated. swift and silent#if reyn is a meteor screaming past then dunban is a sniper round slipping past to hit its target with laser precision#hes a relative old timer who lost most use of his right arm in a street racing accident but that doesnt stop him#riki is the team mascot. what else do you want me to say.#hes itsuki. enthusiastic and excited. just happy to be there and witness#he gets behind the wheel once or twice and is surprisingly good#melia is. here#kallian races for an opposing team and melia being a sheltered rich girl wondered where her brother kept sneaking off to on friday nights#but ended up so impressed by shulk/reyn/dunban's driving that she kept showing up#shes the one they infodump at when they need to explain jargon or techniques or whatever#and the last...they say there's a car that drives around the hills at all hours of the night#going at unheard of speeds with razor sharp precision. but nobodys ever seen the driver#every now and again the car will show up at a local teams practice. flash its brights and rev the engine to signal a challenge#and every time. not only does that deiver win. they shatter any previous course record and drive off into the night#the gang thinks itd be amazing to recuit them#but shulk and reyns childhood friend says they should dream on...hm...
