Dainohara Forest Park obstacle course adventure
I've been wanting to do an obstacle course from the time I got back to Japan. today I did one
there are 12 stations, but one was removed and one was just "pat yourself on the back for finishing" basically, so there's 10 stations of note
doing this when you are almost 30 is one of the hardest things a person can do, in my opinion. looking at this first structure from the beginning, I felt like I was looking death in the face. but it would be really pathetic if I couldn't do it, so I held onto the ropes like they were my only hope and successfully crossed the two bridges. COMPLETE
this one, you're supposed to climb a rope and ring the bell at the top. there are 3 difficulty levels. I chose the easiest, but despite many attempts, I couldn't even begin climbing the rope because those wood thingies don't stay put so you can't find any footing on them. by the way, we did no rope climbing in gym class at my school. this is why I am such a weak, miserable excuse for a human being. FAILURE
this one, you climb up then cross a bridge with varying levels of height and wiggliness. even just climbing up the structure was hard, but I did complete this one! sorry to the other people walking below me on the trail who had to hear my self-encouragement and shouts of surprise/fear. COMPLETE
in the background is the other obstacle which was just a balance beam. now, come on, I can do that at least. COMPLETE
oh no. oh god
I could climb up the little poles, feeling very much like a cool ninja, but unfortunately I couldn't get onto the slanted log thing. it was hard to fully step onto it. I even took off my backpack but it was just impossible. I think it was partially a mental issue. if I jumped onto it, I would have been able to get on, but I was too unsure of my footing and the "safety net" as you can see is a bunch of jagged rocks. I tried to start from the halfway point, but ultimately everything was just so wiggly. FAILURE
slide!
this looked steep but really unassuming, but you go REALLY fast on it. "wind blowing through your hair" fast. I got surprised, so I grabbed the edges and slowed myself down the first time (I was wearing my day labourer gloves for a better grip). I was then unsatisfied with calling it a completed obstacle, so I tried it again. instinct made me grab the edges before I flew off the end, but I think this counts. it was fun to go down such a good slide after so many years. COMPLETE
3 levels of netting to clamber over. I did make it across, but I'm unsatisfied with my technique. I was carrying all my stuff, so I was afraid of change coming out of my pockets. I'm familiar with this kind of thing from when I was a kid, albeit it was at indoor adventure play places where we had ball pits and foam under it and not just mud. COMPLETE
Tarzan rope. I was confident I could do this. I was wrong. I tried many times to find some footing on the rope, which was a bit too high for me, until I decided to try jumping and straddling it with my legs. I made it about half a second before sliding off. clearly I need to work on my upper body strength. FAILURE
the last obstacle, more of just a victory lap, a roller slide. it stalled a couple times but I was eventually able to get some speed on it, and it was really fun. COMPLETE
so, 6/10 completed. I think not bad for my first obstacle course, but I recognise I need a lot of practice. it was a lot of fun though! it may feel silly, but if you're in Japan, please do an obstacle course. it's a fulfilling experience and now I want to try more!
in the provincial park there's a gruelling one that takes an hour to complete. people from all over the country come to try it. I will consider that a final boss. this summer, let's exercise more!!!

I saw a wizard come to this realm and stumble onto the obstacle course for Wipe Out. He spent the whole afternoon shouting demands for council with the brilliant wizard who set up such a dungeon. I mean, I spend enough time in this realm to know it was foolish, but I can’t blame him though, the obstacle courses from Wipe Out would make great dungeons.

@candycaneaddict I finally got far enough in the story to post the chapter where Kagami competes in that Wipeout style obstacle course you wanted to see! I hope you’re still interested. As I promised, there’s also Himuro stuff.
This chapter should work well enough out of context, even if you won’t understand absolutely every conversation to its fullest, so anyone who would like to read just one chapter of Kagami and Himuro being bros, Kagami using his jumping power for a new challenge, as well as some KagaKuro fluff, go ahead and try chapter 12 of TLT.

Day One Hundred Sixty-Five
I really like the project my World students are doing because they’re learning a lot about the war in Ukraine, and they’re enjoying it, but the timing’s a little tricky. I gave them two blocks- Friday and today- to do their research and create their presentations, but, really, it only took most groups about a block and a half. So, that meant class also included chess matches, random Tiktoks, a debate about whether or not Taylor Swift should be canceled because her boyfriend is trash, etc, etc... But it’s all good! Students will present their work tomorrow, and I think it’s going to go very well. It’ll be a good way to close out this part of the unit.
I do want to highlight the success I’ve been having with a handful of boys in my Block 2 class. They’re not big fans of social studies, and they were really slow to warm up to me and trust me because they haven’t always had good experiences in school. But lately they’ve all been smiling in class, they tell me about the work they’re doing in other classes, they show me pictures of their dogs, they wish me a good day when they leave, that kind of thing. And they absolutely crushed this project; I saw their work today because they finished early. I’m so proud of them.
APGOV attendance was back up what it should be, hooray! We have guests coming in tomorrow and Wednesday- state reps- so today’s assignment was to do a bit of research about them and generate questions to ask. That too up the whole block, so I just helped point students in the right direction as needed.
We had a short practice because the girls’ lacrosse team was having their senior game in the stadium at 4:00, which The Athletic Director forgot to mention until today. Whoops. It was fine for me, though; the sprinters did 40m repeats off the blocks, did some wicket drills, and that was that. I did have a chat with The Head Coach afterwards about an athlete who runs the 400m and 800m. She wants to run the 400m at States, but Coach T has her training with the distance runners still, so he should step in. I don’t know if he will or not. We’ll see!
Tomorrow, we’re taking a big group picture with our trophies since we didn’t get to take one on Saturday, and then- track team tradition- it’s time for the obstacle course!

A Military & Civilian Obstacle Course
File:140904-A-BS310-218 (15001947950).jpg
This dream was probably inspired by me watching most of the videos on the YouTube channel Wartime Stories over the weekend:
Videos
All that I can remember of this dream is that it took place during the day, and it started with some soldiers talking about a military obstacle course that civilians could also use.
They also probably talked about their…
