I like when opera characters are dumb.

What makes opera scenes interesting is characters in conflict. They're fighting each other, they're fighting themselves, they're fighting the narrative and possibly even the music.

And by that standard, Cosi fan Tutte is a masterpiece. Not even one character is content for even one moment. The "seduction" scenes in the second act are the best example.

So here we have Guglielmo, possibly the dumbest character in all of opera, who has spent the whole first act singing joke arias about how cool his fake mustache is. He's an insecure young man, and when his (original) fiancee Fiordiligi decides to go for a walk with another man, his self-image is hanging by a thread. So he must act.

On the other side, we have Dorabella, who is a fairly horny person and blissfully unconcerned by all this talk about love and fidelity. She thinks the disguised Guglielmo is hot, and his dumb jokes are fun, so when he starts hitting on her, she's all for it. But she's not exactly in love with him either, she's just having fun.

So that's basically how it should be played (and often it is). Not Guglielmo playing a cruel prank on Dorabella, but playing a cruel prank on himself. He's the one who ends up unhappy, the text of the finale makes this pretty clear. Congratulations, you have seduced the horniest woman on the planet, and it only cost you your own relationship and your best friend. Guglielmo's next aria is a bitter woman-hater anthem, Dorabella's next aria is a fun little song about how much she likes to fuck.

And isn't that relatable? It's normal for young people, especially men, to let pride and short-sightedness draw them into situations they don't want to be in and can't get out of. It's not a coincidence, I think, that Guglielmo is a soldier.

As for Dorabella, I personally think the situation she didn't want to be in is the relationship she had at the start. She isn't ready to settle for a boring tenor quite yet. She goes on a little journey of self-discovery and comes out wiser.

This is not really a girlboss opera either; in the other half of the game, Fiordiligi comes out at least as bad as Ferrando. But in this half, there is a clear winner and a clear loser.

Can you show us how to draw the height differences for each of the Marble hornets characters? Some people draw time absolutely tiny compared to the rest and some people make him taller than jay and not much shorter than Brian, and I think it’s funny

Virgil getting absolutely hammered and singing/screaming emo songs is great, until he starts doing emo covers of pop songs. The one song he absolutely has to do is Fergalicious. But in a beautiful twist it turns into Virgilicious, because thinking is hard. And he gets into it, actually making it sound emo and screaming the rap bridge like a boss. It's surprisingly good for someone who can't keep his feet under him. And Remus, equally slizzered, is shouting all of Will.i.am's lines and dancing seductively behind him. Only it's really jerky and awkward half the time.

Of course someone (Janus or Roman probably) records the entire performance. Virgil is mortified, Remus is turned on. No one lets Virgil live it down

2: Favourite male historical figure.

3: Favourite female historical figure.

Oh my gosh this is not an easy choice. I like a lot of historical figures equally. Generally, I will consider someone my favourite if I both like them and find them the most interesting. But who I find the most interesting can vary a lot from day to day. Sometimes, I will get super obsessed with one specific person and then they would be my favourite for a few months, but it isn't happening right now. I currently just have a selection of about a dozen historical figures and events tumbling around in my brain.

As of today, I think I have to go with Vergil as my favourite male historical figure. He's always been in my top five, and today I just suddenly started thinking about him. The main runner-ups are Tiberius, Agrippa, and Octavian.

For female historical figures, I think I'll have to go with Agrippina the Younger. Super controversial, I know. I just find her the most interesting right now. I'm probably going to read Anthony Barrett's biography of her soon. The main runner-ups here are Livia, Octavia, and Claudia Octavia.

Wow, boy do I love Julio-Claudians. Vergil is just special.

virgil has a special place in my heart cause i love him since his static shock series days (it’s a kids show but it’s SO GOOD, it’s honestly timeless and i highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t watched it yet) (for extra meta his best friend in the show is voiced by bart’s VA too like?!)

anyway YJ season 2 set virgil up with SO MUCH potential, hes so cool, so that’s why i’ll never forgive season 3 for how they did my boy dirty with his whole plot with jeff, it was so rushed and borderline disrespectful with how they concluded it on virgil’s end.

Atleast we get to knw that he maintains a good friendship with the runaways and the team. I think his dynamic with Ed has such good bro potential (as ppl might have guessed from my fics lol) and i think Virgil perfectly fits with the Outsiders too. Him and Jaime, it’s easy to see them get along cause of their age and their whole on screen duo thing was everything lmfao (ppl who said they should start a podcast, that just might be the one podcast i’d tune in to for real).

And the way he knew Joan, it’s like the Runaways got to knw the garrick’s and all that and idk it’s just so precious and i think everything we’ve seen on screen with his friendship with Bart is SO SWEET, just two genuine sweet guys, i love their friendship so much <3

Mmmmmmmok gonna start with the popular:

Royality: Ship It!

I mostly ship Royality because I ship LAMP. Roman and Patton work well together as the more emotionally driven and outgoing of the core four. It's not a ship I actively seek out but it's a ship I enjoy content for when it crosses my dash.

I think they would be the obnoxious couple that has a couples Instagram and tiktok and talk all the time about the dumb things they do together and gush endlessly about XYZ cute/thoughtful thing the other did for them. They're very close and their relationship is very strong.

Unpopular Opinion: not sure if it's "unpopular" but these two are an emotional time bomb waiting to happen. Roman's intense self esteem issues and Patton's self-sacrificing tendencies plus pushing down his own feelings in favor of others would go into overdrive in this relationship. I can see it turning unhealthy into codependency if they're not careful. And if a fight we're to happen, it *happens* and is loud wailing and yelling and crying and lots of self loathing and regret afterwords for both parties.

What is their actual ship name? Why am I just now realizing I don't know this?

Starting with Unpopular Opinion - I just don't like canon Remus. He squicks me out pretty bad, even setting aside his "character" and what he supposedly represents being kinda all over the place. This isn't one of the four that I actively block, but I tend to skip over it if I see it in a fic.

To be brutally honest I don't think there's anything currently in canon that would make me ship them together, and I doubt I would find much of any in fanon/fics. I can see them as friends and/or estranged family, but not in a romantic sense. (Also idk if it's just association with the color green but I tend to see/headcanon Remus as Aro anyway...)

I think it's cute when it's a familial relationship! It's fun to wonder about how they were in the past, both based on canon references to their shared history and in fanon interpretations. I tend to generally like Remus in fanon interpretations a lot better anyway, so that also helps.

what kind of instruments does he like hearing the sounds of most, if any?

Hi!!!!!! Uh I think he likes music (especially in a modern au) but hes probably not particularly fond of overly boisterous bards, so like, quiet lute? I'm personally very fond of things like nyckelharpa and tagelharpa and hurdygurdy, he would probably enjoy strings and drone instruments, dulcimers, etc. But yeah he would really hate bards and people who get drunk and sing.
