Relatable arias from Clemenza:
"I have anxiety" (Annio).
"When will I have a day without anxiety that sours all my pleasures?" (Vitellia).
"I feel like I just woke up even though I have been up all day making bad decisions" (Sesto).
"I am not getting the nice things I wanted, but at least my anxiety will stop eating me alive" (Vitellia).
[Arias in that order:
Io sento che in petto
Quando sarà quel dì
Fra stupido e pensoso
Getta il nocchier talora]

🔥 thoughts on the costumes from the globe theater's 2013 production of twelfth night?
oh the one with Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry? LOVE! I have mad respect for Jenny Tiramani and she's another on my list of 'would love to work with' designers.

could be completely wrong but:
what if we saw the queen of the night from die zauberflöte in kind of the same way as vitellia from la clemenza di tito—two powerful women who have been (or at least feel) slighted by male-dominated power dynamics and, while they genuinely love the people they’re trying to manipulate (pamina and sesto respectively) brutally manipulate them anyway?
the differences, of course, being that they’re working in/against different structures with different rulers (sarastro and tito respectively, and we all know they’re very different), and of course that the queen of the night never gets the redemptive moment/heel-face that vitellia does
