Lil (long) simblr gratitude day post

I wanted to make a post shouting out some of my favorite creators, storytellers, and just general simmers from over the last year, mainly focused on ts4 since that's where my attention has been the most. Long post ahead so it's going under a cut. If you're not tagged please know I did wake up late today so it's not as complete of a list as I wanted it to be!!

@adelarsims - You are an essential in my mods folder!! I love how much realism and/or character your cc adds to sims, from things like the piercing holes to the wonky glasses to the mechanic overlay... Just so many little things that I can't imagine not having in my game or on certain characters now. Speaking of characters, your sims both original and premade are always so gorgeous, and I really enjoy your interpretations of wg and jeb. & Thank you for being WCIF friendly, I know it takes time to get that info but it's so appreciated, u've help me find some very beloved pieces of CC. Also the level of dedication u have to organizing your mods folder is incredible and you've inspired me a lot to get my folder's act together finally!! Which is SUCH a QoL improvement

@bearphase - I adore the bright legacy and I admire all the little details and effort you put into your posts, like fixing clipping issues, making icons and templates for custom careers or story events, ur creativity really shines through. You've also reminded me how fun NSB can be and inspired me to get back to it and my human enough gameplay and I can't thank u for that enough, it's got me sooo excited for future simming endeavors

@daisydezem - You've been a welcome addition on my dash back since POSE, which was a fantastic first community experience for me and so much fun, & I love your gameplay & love how much work u put into rainbowsin! (I adore Venus so much btw!!) I hope you're healing well and that u have a lovely new year!!

@divinedionym - CLAIRE!!! I was SO happy to see you dipping your toes back in the community I missed you on my dash! and while I adored ur vatores and their story and ur an incredible storyteller, I'm glad you've been able to pivot into something more enjoyable for u. I hope you have lots of fun in the coming year and I can't wait to see what Aspen gets up to… or into… especially with his vampire BF. Aside from that idk if you'll ever wanna run another sims server, but I did want to give you a late shoutout and props for that bc I know from experience it can be difficult and I really loved how you ran yours! I could just be an anxious bitch but I feel like its so hard to find comfortable servers.... and esp the storytellers one was so cozy and helpful, and ur management of it was *chefs kiss* I've also really enjoyed it every time we've talked, tho I'm sorry I'm so shy 😭😭

@earthmoonz - LONG TIME MUTUAL ALERT ….. ur sims are always so gorgeous. Love the Devereauxs and... Max and Lena… WOO. I support womens and nonbinary rights. and wrongs. Wifey has been SO good and I'm pumped to see where the rest of the story goes. U have a natural talent for storytelling and I really appreciate how much care u put into your characters. @hauntedtrait - Another mutual I enjoy every time I see you on my dash!! Your Lilith is drop dead gorgeous but honestly so many of your sims are. I love ur premade makeovers and Dakota is sooo pretty I'm obsessed. I can't wait 2 see who he ends up with! :]

@horusmenhosetix - I love seeing u on my dash and every time we've talked has been so lovely!! There's been so many times you've made me want to jump back into my projects for ts2 or even go back to ts3 once I have the space to download it. I love your s2cc and god ur sims …. its been a year but I still smile whenever I think about the vatore siblings you shared jhskfdh they're so perfect its got me inspired to throw together an s4 save whenever I get my mods folder sorted. & I'm so excited to go thru ur downloads tag and fill that baby UP with ur stuff next time I work on that !!!!!!!!

@nucrests - I downloaded a lot of ur cc more recently but MY BOYS!!! U'VE CLOTHED MY BOYS!!! You make such good quality content and I'm always a huge fan of those that help me give my male sims some flair and style, thank u! :')

@oshinsimblr - Long 1 incoming... While I've never been a sims 4 hater, like a lot of people I've still struggled with the gameplay aspect of this iteration, so it's been really inspiring to watch how you go about your game and immerse yourself in it, see all the care you put into your sims. I have to thank you for the videos you've made on it, like the one on how to make sims you connect to, season 1 of Lovesick where you went basically vanilla with the specific intent to show people how much you can do with imagination and what that looks like in gameplay! It's been literally game-changing for me lol and helped me to have more fun with my saves, even if they're not one of the rare few that starts out off the rails, I get more enjoyment playing it out until things do start happening outside of my control. & YOUR CC RECS!! I've downloaded so many of the mods you've recommended and I love how much they fill out the game. On the topic of Lovesick, I have not been able 2 get enough!! I'm so hooked lmao. Watching this series has really taken me back to the days when I was a teen reading like those particularly juicy drama-filled sims 3 stories you can't help but to keep clicking "next page" on, except Lovesick is so solid writing-wise. SO excited to see where Lizbeth is going in her life!!

@simandy - Your hairs have been an essential in my CAS folder for so long, and I've been so impressed with the evolution of your creations over the years. I've always liked your work but GODDAMN the quality always blows me away these days!! & I really, really adore and appreciate the variety! @squea - ANOTHER SORT OF LONG ONE BUT ... Your sims just POP!!! SO much character, and your edits and art r phenomenal. Corn is one of my favorite little digital guys I've had the pleasure of experiencing on line in all my years in the sims community reading stories and gameplay. If Cornelius has a million fans I am one of them. If Cornelius has ten fans I am one of them. If Cornelius has no fans I am no longer on the earth. If world against Cornelius, I am against the world. So on and so forth TBH you've also helped me have a lot more fun with the sims 4 talking about how you enjoy your game, and have a healthier mindset about my place in the community and connect back with the reason I made this blog in the first place, which was just to have fun and archive something I love, regardless of whether it got any attention or not! I started going MIA a bit post 2019 after really getting involved in the community, for Life Happens reasons, and naturally the lack of consistent posting for a while meant less eyes on whatever I came back to share. For a while I let that discourage me esp when a lot of effort was put into something, but after you posted about just genuinely enjoying ur game and loving what you made regardless of notes it made me realize what I was doing and helped me get back to that state of mind. Now whatever I make gets to matter simply because it matters to me, even if I post it at like 3am bc I'm so excited and no one ever sees it bc of that DHKDHKHSD. & I feel like I have u to thank for that!! U turned da lightbulb on

@thefoxburyinstitute - I could not make a gratitude post without forgetting to include the foxbury institute!! I've been messing around more with making CC the last couple of months and your blog has been so incredibly helpful, and I highly recommend everyone interested in creating or just wanting to maintenance and mend their mods folder a bit check them out!

@tricoufamily - YOUR RENDERS ARE SO GORGEOUSSS and I love your take on the Villareals. I never ran into the original story so I'm really excited tbh to see whats up ur sleeve... also I love everything you've shared about two headed lamb so far, so eerie and offputting in the best way. Also everyone read this is the fall here

@void-imp I know we just followed each other a few days ago but ur trio is SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!! I love Jab's design so much and I rlly enjoy what I've read about aleksey so far. :-)

@warwickroyals - Ok so first off your clothing is a STAPLE in my folder for my more wealthy and/or fashion-oriented sims! And as for the Warwick Legacy? One of my absolute favorite simblr stories I've read. I still remember when I started it, it was pretty late at night so I was just planning on reading a handful of posts and then picking it back up the next day. That did not happen I could not stop. Straight up stayed up the entire night bingeing all the way to the latest post (which was the Big Phillip Thing. I had to get up from my computer to pace I was having a Moment LOL) I've got some catching up to do but so far I think that's been my favorite arc. Aside from that your editing is beautiful, and I've always been a character enjoyer so I'm in love with how much thought you've put into all of yours, and the fact we get to learn so much about them. I think you do a really good job of balancing the cast and I really dig your storytelling style in general.

@whimsyalien I know u post moreso on twitter but since u ARE technically also on simblr... I just wanna say I love the polaris legacy and thank you so much for all the poses and templates you share!!!

@windbrook THANK YOU for making so many fantastic builds and for sharing your saves, it's one of my absolute favorites. Also all the original sims u post are so striking, and ur cartoon-ish makeovers were so much fun!! @yooniesim Your cc is a more recent addition to my folder but there's so many things you've made and I'm sure will make that are essentials there now, like the teeth and body hair and god that necklace set for men is a necessity, but outside of that I love a lot of the other CAS CC you make you have some of the cutest hairs and I really adore the accessories! Thank you also for speaking out on certain issues within the community.

idk if i should ask this but there's things really messed up for me and i really need some advice and get out of this.

*i always see many different kinds of posts about self improvement and self care and after seeing that i make many goals for myself that i will implement all of these. But i just dont know how to do these and how to start and what to start i just want to do all of the things in one day which i will never do.

*i am a high school student, this is my last year of school and also it is really important and this is the only very long vacation i got and i am very weak in studies also i have very less knowledge about many things (like i am just dumb?). My school is gng to reopen on 28 august and when my school is closed i planned various things that i will improve to do to improve myself and become a completely different person (like have a glow up). But i did nthng for like whole one month and just watched kdramas and stuff. i also have many things to study and complete stuffs.

*i jst dnt knw hw to do like planning and stuffs and do my works according to it. bcz i tried making notion templates regarding everything and do all the stuffs in one day and bcm a wonder women in one day but i did nthng. and then i deleted my whole notion page bcz i jst dk hw to do. i also tried bullet journaling that didn't work s well. i jst dk wht do everything is jst messed up.

*also i feel so embarrassing talking to someone verbally in english bcz idk i jst start saying nonsense words like i realy dk hw to speak english even though I've been speaking since i was 4.

*i am just struggling with all the aspects of my life. and idk hw to just start.

*also like i jst be scared to talk to someone or even speaking in class or anything i jst stand there being embarrased and getting weird looks from everyone in my class. no one even asks me anything bcz they know tht idk anything and everyone looks down at me like my own parents too.

*and my sleep schedule is also a mess rn. and like the whole day i jst keep making fake scenarios in my mind tht i dnt feel like i am in the prsent my brain jst gets numb and i dnt feel any thing in the present its jst like yea the prsenet is somewht gng on but i hv no idea wht is gng on i jst forget everything. this is gng on since many years. evn at school i jst dont listn to any lecturs bcz of this. i think my thinkinh capabilities has also gone. i jst forget things very easily.

*i wanna workout to remove my leg fat but i end up planning many thiings in one day like focusing my whole body this and that and then i give up that toooo.

Hey! Just saw this part of your question.

I get what you're going through. You want to make things better, but you're not sure where to start.

If planning tools like Notion or bullet journaling don't work for you, that's fine. Try making a list or using your phone's notes section. That's what I do.

When it comes to talking in English, it's okay if you feel scared or mess up sometimes. You're being tough on yourself and caring too much about what others might say. This is something many people go through. But let's shift our attention away from others and focus on how you can handle this feeling of not being sure about yourself.

Are you truly putting effort into improving yourself, or do you give up as soon as things get tough? This matters a lot because you need to make a real commitment. If not, you'll just keep going around in circles of negativity. If you want to exercise, then go ahead and exercise. What is stopping you? Think about it? Just yourself. That is quite literally it.

If your sleep schedule is messed up and you feel disconnected, try setting a routine for sleep and doing things that help you stay present, like meditation or going for a walk.

I can tell you're feeling pretty down and everything seems gloomy right now. I understand, and it's not a good feeling. But there will come a time, and it looks like you're getting there, when you'll need to stand up and take charge of your life again.

If you really want to work on all of these things, you need to cut/stop doing all of the negative things you are doing now and only focusing on the version of you that you want to identify with. Change might feel tough, but staying stuck in one place is tough too. You get to pick which kind of tough you want to deal with.

I am going to teach you right now what you need to do if you really do want to work on yourself.

Write down things that make you feel not so good that you want to change.

Next to each item, write down how you can make these things better. For example, if you're not exercising enough, you could start taking short walks every day.

Forget the old version of you exists. Imagine you used to eat a lot of junk food and that made you feel tired. Decide that you won't go back to eating junk food even when you feel like it. You need to really have a vision for yourself and who you want to be. This is important because it will be how you motivate yourself.

Keep finding new ways to make your situation better. If you're trying to be more social, maybe you could join a club or group where you can meet new people.

Exercise and incorporate more healthy meals into your diet. Exercising will not only make you feel good but it will also help you look good.

Take care of your appearance. When you look good you feel good and vice versa. You will become more motivated and confident.

Stop procrastinating. Set realistic and achievable goals. This will help you boost your confidence as well as increase your levels of productivity and discipline.

Get hobbies. Learn new things, figure out your passions and pursue them. Live a life of purpose so you don't continue to feel like you are just floating through life.

Avoid negative content or really anything that no longer aligns with the version of you that you want to be. You want to change your life? You want to be a different version of yourself? What does that person look like? How do they act? What do they do? Your whole life should be consumed with those examples and those examples ONLY.

Learn a new skill and practice it daily. This will help you grow as a person. Develop critical thinking skills. You learn new things and become smarter. It will make life more interesting and exciting for you.

Keep promises to yourself. If you don't take care of yourself, who will? People will treat you how you treat yourself.

REPLACE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS WITH POSITIVE ONES. Pay attention to how you talk to yourself because you are listening and your mind is normalizing these ideas.

By doing these things, you can feel better, be more confident, do well in your tasks, try new stuff, have good relationships, make good choices, stay positive, and be someone others trust. It helps you have a happy life where you learn and grow while being kind to yourself and others around you <3

Just like a pet dog, he needs to be close to you at all times. He's always pawing at you, needing your attention. If anything, YOUR affections spark his affections.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Friendships don't come too easily to Rowan, but once youve proven your trust, he's pretty great, fiercely loyal.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Yes! And as I've said before, it's more death grips haha, man loves a cuddle.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

He'd have no problem settling down if it was for the right perosn. Unfortunately he's no "domestic goddess" he's messy and he doesn't cook, because his diet doesn't require cooking.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Ghost. Far away from you. You'd never see him again.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment?)

Once he's in love, BOOM. He'd want it all.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Emotionally, he CAN be gentle, depending who to obviously. But physically, in general, he's not a gentle person, he has to really focus on things to be gentle, like, he could open a door and pull it off its hinges by accident without meaning to.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

He likes hugs, he'll hug you any chance he gets, HARD overwhelming hugs. 🤣

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

Rowan can fall in love very quickly depending, and he would have no issue dropping the L bomb when he feels it.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Very jealous, he wouldn't handle it well. He'd take himself off for a while, then, whoevers making him jealous is going to GET it.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you?)

Rough, aggressive, and messy.

Your thighs and your lips.

L = Little ones (How are they around little children?)

Rowan isn't good around small children, they make him antsy.

M = Morning (What they are like in the mornings)

Mornings for Rowan are actually pretty eventful. He prefers to hunt very early mornings, so he's usually up and out very early to do that.

N = Night (What they're like at night?)

That totally depends on where he is. If he's somewhere with you, he likes to relax (and other things) but if he's at the Den, he's usually either fighting or enjoying the activities there.

O = Open(When would they start revealing things about themselves?)

I mean, once he feels a little comfortable with you, he'll tell you anything.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Short fuse, he gets irritated and angry easily and its not pretty.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you?)

Oh, he'll remember EVERYTHING about a person.

R = Remember (What is their favourite moment in your relationship?)

This is hard to answer, but I think his favourite part would be building up trust in those early days, like him realising that you're legit and genuine would be a big thing to him.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you?)

EXTREMELY protective..And you already know exactly how he'd protect you.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into the relationship)

A lot, once he's got you, he wouldn't wanna lose you, so he'd really try his best to keep you.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Messy in general, in most things. Getting wound up too easily, some could say acting TOO animalistic in his human form at times could be a bad trait too.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Well, he tries to keep his hair and beard neat, because if he didn't, he'd look like a tramp VERY quickly because his hair grows SO fast, it's like a daily thing he has to do, he looked a mess when Marvolo met him 🤣

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Once he's love with you, yes, very much so.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Though Rowan doesn't NEED a full moon to transform, and can transform at will at any given time. When there IS a full moon, he prefers to be out in the woods in his wolf form, its just his thing, it's what he does.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they don't like?)

Small children, losing in general, COOKED meat.

Z = Zzz (What are their sleeping habits?)

Rowan will sleep ANYWHERE, in the most uncomfortable of postions, in the weirdest places. Naturally though,since joining the Den, he prefers a nice bed, but rarely sleeps under the covers. He's a space hogger and a terrible snorer.

Is there any way you can return with the story? Even though it's a retelling, the feeling when I read everything is that you can understand what your own story is like and with your own characters that you put a lot of effort into

I would fully support if you did the story with original characters or changing names but still using DreamSMP and others as a base or template

sobbb im on r/place and so theres like. shego from kim possible (i think) that people were drawing but then other ppl who were horny decided 'i want to see her naked on this public canvas' and they got overrun?? i mean like if you want porn of characters then ok but do it in private, away from public areas??. isnt kim possible like a kids show?? and its horribly disrespectful to the fans and probably literally any innocent person stumbling upon it because its PUBLIC, or like maybe even streamers (as much as they suck because some have been targeting innocent fandoms like genshin?? IT WAS SO PRETTY and now its covered) getting in trouble because its getting so detailed now its dumb ughhh ^^ future add on to this. dude she wasnt gone they made a smaller one. and i found it by accident because i was looking at the oshi no ko contributions and nearby it was HER. undressed. SOB

(of a question about what people on r/place think of streamers) I don't really like streamers on r/place, it seems like everytime they're mentioned it's in a negative context because they sent their fans to ruin other peoples stuff. I mean I enjoy them as entertainment and stuff, but I never like it when they attack others. And as a person whose committed so much time and effort to build a corner with my community, seeing others just attack it for seemingly no reason (or even them just targeting memorials because they can.. extreme but it has happened. today.) is painful, it hurts and it really sucks because all that effort goes down the drain, and if you don't have a template then you're screwed. It just sucks that streamers tend to be the ones who cause a lot of destruction for their own gain, and on the way stomp on a lot of other people's care and joy. And the only streamers who probably do good, carving out their own corner just like us and not actually harming anyone are probably never heard of because they don't do anything. It sucks that we notice the negative more then the good, but what can you do?

i have a lot of pent up anger still on r/place but like. DUDE. fucking. xqc??? like okay, he's gonna void everything, so what (at least its not near omori thank fuck. also he failed) but then hes targeting memorials??. and im genuinely so pissed right now what the hell he targeted the turkey flag (which i don't really care about that much? its stupid how many flags are taking up so much space on the canvas), unknowingly ruined ataturks memorial on the flag (he called it a temple. which, yeah. okay. you couldnt really tell unless you knew but it was still a memorial? and yeah ataturk is apparently controversial but still?) and then there was lola (...a twelve year old.) on the french flag. he KNEW about it and still ruined it, and then when ppl went against him was going on and on about how there was already a memorial, that it would be shown on like the timelapses and stuff and it wouldnt be permanent anyway, comparing it to like, his grandpa, and put a single black pixel down as a 'memorial'. and then when someone got rid of it went about how we were the same? like. there are always disrespectful and rude people, you cant just believe that a single persons action equal to everyone elses, because there will always be someone who acts out. and also what the hell? i genuinely feel so disrespected on behalf of everyone rn just ughhh

my ranting tends to be negative often but r/place was really fun, and im not active a lot with other servers, but i was sucked into it by the omori discord, and it was generally really fun. even if everytime i woke up, it was to a shit ton of pings that lagged out my laptop

i saved photos of the omori stuff i contributed to (otherwise, i placed a few pixels here and there. Like for everything xqc attacked, for the shego thing which i was just placing a green pixel? stayed far away from the exposed areas. a few pixels for oshi no ko, yttd, LVJY, genshin although genshin was screwed over so many times and i didnt have the template)

theres the picnic ofc but i wasnt there at the beginning, only after the picnic was done and after neutral omori was there. but i was there when we took it down and made gunomori YEAHHH with omori theres also the.. thing. something. i cant remember i think it was something but who knows. i didnt have the template though, i tried to download it but i think i screwed it up and couldnt be bothered, so i mainly put myself in the duty of fixing any errors that didnt fit the template (i had a tab with the template) it was my first time doing anything at r/place at all, and i didnt pay much attention to any content before then because it just didnt interest me. but man, i took a leap, and it was FUN. even if it genuinely annoyed me so bad when we got griefed

My Albums Of 2022 - Second Tier (pt. 1)

One of the problems that I had this year was that I heard about a half dozen albums in the first nine months of 2022, and was then inundated with new stuff from October onwards. This has meant that I’m aware of a lot more good albums that those that I’ve written about at length but I don’t know them well enough to have a lot to say on the subject. However, I think I can probably manage a round up of both the best new to me stuff, and a few that are great without quite being the best. Tumblr won’t let me put more than 10 links up in a post, so these will have to be split into two: this is January To June

February

Doe St’s slacker rock has plenty of obvious influences, with Pavement and fellow Aussies Chook Race both springing to mind. But their self titled debut was a great example of that thing in indie where someone takes the thing you think you’ve heard done to death and finds a way to make it feel fresh enough to go around again with. In this case, the tunes hit a perfect spot, the untrained harmonies have a lazy charm to them and the guitars have just the kind of scratchy restlessness that I like.

March

Aldous Harding’s forth LP “Warm Chris” was as warm and idiosyncratic as expected, but needed more effort than I was prepared to put in back in March. However, a few listens recently have brought its quality home to me: it’s earthier than 2019’s Designer but just as tuneful, and at its best when pursuing the stranger paths that seem to come to her so intuitively.

Denzel Curry branched out on Melt My Eyez, See Your Future, his most successful record to date, which veered between jazz based Robert Glasper collaborations and hard DnB beats with Slowthai, with plenty to go in-between. The whole thing pulled together in a way that was satisfying enough if slightly uneven, though Denzel's charm and punchy delivery were consistent features.

Pop-punk trio Joyride! returned after 6 years sounding exactly the same as they'd always done and, if Miracle Question didn’t quite reach the same heights of brilliance as their masterpiece Bodies Of Water, it followed a similar enough template in both style and quality to remind me why I love them all over again.

Sault released no less than five albums in 2022 (two of which were doubles) as well as an EP and a lengthy single and, to be honest, in the end I couldn't be arsed with it all. But there was plenty to admire if you could hold focus for long enough, with the choral soul crossover Air being the record I returned to the most, an album that combined elegance and joy with a genuine experimental flair.

Black Star returned for the first time in over 20 years and released their album on a paid-for podcasting platform, in a move that I'm going to call dumb. But in spite of all that, No Fear Of Time turned out to be an absolute belter: Bey and Kweli brought some typically insightful politics to the project and the rhymes hit hard alongside Madlib’s disjointed and occasionally soulful beats.

Warpaint shed some of their angst on the sun-kissed Radiate Like This album, working with a soulful, feminine vibe that made for perhaps the most listenable record they’ve ever released. While the lyrics at times left something to be desired, there was enough elegance and beauty to feel like it marked a welcome step forward.

Yaya Bey’s second album, Remember Your North Star was a surprisingly unusual proposition: while there was clearly a more straightforward neo-soul record hiding somewhere in its coattails, almost as big an accent was placed on ambient experiments as the introspective funk pop at its heart. Either way, North Star's sheer quality and unexpectedness made it one of the most intriguing and enjoyable albums that I heard this year.

I agree that BLs could be so much better and so much more in terms of the writing, direction, production and more variety in settings and genre. Thailand is the leader and GMMTv is the biggest so they should and could be pushing boundaries but they are not or atleast are very slow to change. I suspect a lot of the reason why is homophobia and the need to place lgbqt people all in neat boxes with little to no complexity. But we as consumers of the BL media should demand more with the product.

I think it's complicated because most people behind producing and writing BLs for GMMTV are queer themselves so I won't say it's homophobia being the obstacle I think it's just how they perceive the BL fandom/culture over there, Y novels are extremely popular and will lead to easy fame for their celebrities, so they tend to go the shallow route of not challenging that, all they think fans want is skinship that makes them ship the couple too in reality, and a love story that makes people swoon with different tropes associated with the genre. The focus is always just getting a medium to do that easily, quickly and in high quantity so people feel satisfied with at least one storyline depending on their tastes and likes. They are slow to change because it is a capitalistic mindset, what they're doing is working for them and produces a lot of money for the company when following the correct template (2gether, Bad buddy etc) so they rather just stick to that, it means normally writers and directors go in mind with a bl storyline how to make it work for fans and make money and sell the couples rather than just wanting to tell an amazing story or create an amazing series. Like I said you have exceptions there are some that have the goal of representation with BL so they change and edit the novels they take, and now GMMTV is also putting more effort in hiring original stories for BL (also capitalistic to sell novels lol) so they are dipping their toes, they know the audience wants queer storylines so they hire someone who can do that like the warped effect, but they know the audience wants something more, hopefully we get more variety other than just adding representation as a way to do that, i want budget and quality and risks with more varied genres for bl, more worlds to be explored, some unique ideas like the gifted and Midnight museum, something that focuses on storytelling and creativity than just the normal template. Right now they tried with my school president to elevate not change the template and it worked, and like I said I'm hoping Parbdee BL this year (Be my favorite) is more than just the typical BL I know already the director has a goal more than just that as he has put even his own money into the production and changed filming style and production of a typical bl show. We'll see if he is forced to stay stagnant and keep the template format or if there's more he could do with the time travel aspect, (the novel is quite shallow as with jittirain so i'm hoping its more like Not me where they take the idea and just recreate everything else than just film the novel storyline with a few small changes to accomadate more convo about representation). Just me anyways i hope this year GMMTV experiments and risk taking in all their categories will also include BL i'm hoping even when being pessimistic that midnight museum is a test as well. next step more budget and quality (which they are slowly improving on for every show)

Its not that i dont get peoples anxieties around ai generated images leading to fewer commercial job opportunities for illustrators rather that idk if it will really make a dent given for a lot of cases digital illustration could already be subbed out for stock photos/illustrations or low effort graphic templates etc (and if those options werent available i dont trust that employers wouldnt just, underpay for illustration gigs)

Ive fiddled around with ai enough to know that its not any faster than slapping together stuff in photoshop or doing simple graphic design

But more than that i personally feel the best solution rn is to support people in other fields in the fight for better wages - since a lot more people would buy or commision art if they had disposable income.

On a similar note i think the gig economy is just, precarious to begin with and its worth asking why there arent more salaried positions in the arts

Maybe my perspective is different because i dont do digital art and most of the artists i know also dont. Its a somewhat different field to navigate, traditional arts that is. Lot less commercial commisions and a lot more reliant on sales or securing grants funding. The only contract work ive done is curatorial.

I would kill for a salaried curatorial job.

But yeah while ai will definitely change the field idk if it will make it any worse. And it sucks because i do find ai art interesting and i do wonder if it can work in ways other than text prompting. I mean i know it can i just would like to see that really explored. Doing cool or weird tech experiments is unfortunately also stiffled by profitability. Its worth asking what we could do with ai outside of its commercial applications. I dont see it as different from other art mediums in that sense - in that they are all weakened by the demands of capitalism.

I do hope that ai imaging continues to suck a little though. I find the flaws in it more interesting than if it could perfectly replicate human processes. Its why i like playing around on artbreeder a lot. If you can work out why things are going wrong you can push that in interesting directions. Ive gotten good at using the slider controls to do other things. Artbreeder uses GANs whereas most text based generators use diffusion models, but im not techy enough to explain the difference.

Another problem with ai i do think, its intimidating to try and learn about and requires a base knowledge. I do think not understanding emerging tools absolutely puts creators at a disadvantage in terms of the development and direction new technologies go in.

Im trying though so i will report back if i actually get to a point i can explain it. Ive seen some analogies but id rather understand it as it is...

[prev anon] also idk if you get this feeling too but i've been watching a lot of style subcult content in the last week from younger adults and teens which makes me envious bc i don't have a 'thing'. no obvious template to dress that would match either my (boring npc) lifestyle and job or my awkward body type. to resist categories sounds cool on paper but irl its just depressing. these sparkly aesthetic cool kids all stand out, do what they want authentically while i feel like an invisible fraud

Yes omg... I look at people who dress goth and I'm like FUCKKKKK you look so cool why's that not me <///3 but I know it's bc I can't be arsed to put the effort in most of the time and I like wearing other stuff too. Doesn't mean I can't work in some of those subculture things I do like into what I wear! That becomes my style!

This Week In "Time & Again" #7: And The Wheels Keep Turning

Hallöchen! 👋 Took me a little more time to come back with a new blog post - but here I am, delivering you a new tiny wall of text to read, just as originally intended 😁

Christmas is steadily on its way, and the life is exploding with events, big and small, good and not quite - but mostly good ones; and the jolly festive music is playing all around, and as a certain somebody plays one truly mesmerizing and entertaining Christmas Doom mod in the evenings - of course, with Christmas music in it, too - the work on "Time & Again" goes on and quite well (can't complain; Lothar can't complain either). All's good. In fact, I have only about 3 pages left to finish up The Lineart Stage, although some little parts here and there were skipped previously. But I doubt it it's gonna take me considerable amount of time to make everything 100% complete and to wrap it up (no, not the presents - tis the season, I know, but I meant a different kind of wrapping... y-yeah 😅).

Since time is a valuable resource - which is exactly what one of my absolutely favourite characters in the entire "Time & Again" series once said (hey dear readers, can you guess who I'm talking about?) - I think, for the first time in my life, this once, I'll make a new post very short. Gotta go back to nannying me kids, after all (ah, life of an artistic parent is hard 😫). Don't wanna waste a lot of time distracting myself, especially during this hectic end of the season. Also, I still got my eggnog to drink. It's on my list of important things to eat/drink. So yup, time is sure valuable!

I was gonna make a special post about the procedures and peculiarities of how I create page templates for "Time & Again" using Inkscape and Krita to create a functional and convenient workspace for myself. But I'll save that for another day, because writing a logically structured and sophisticated post about such a technical topic will require some mental effort. And since currently my mind is preoccupied mainly with blue jays, eggnog, laundry, und Spätzle, this topic might be a tad too exhausting for me to take on right now. So I'll just spam with a few cute panels portraying Lothar - to keep y'all happy 😁

We already talked about Lothar's disgusting habits earlier, we did. However, cigarette smoke dreamily twirling upwards in the air is something that I really enjoy drawing often outside the outlined boundaries of the comic panels. As you can see on the screenshot above, Lothario is super excited about something in front of him and he absolutely does not notice that the cigarette is sticking out from the panel. And you know? I like that. What you will often see in my graphic novel for sure - and especially in Chapter 5 I'm working on right now, because holy effing ****, is Lothar a heavy smoker! 😱 - I use the smoke outside and sometimes across a few panels, sometimes intertwining the lines and arranging them in such a way that they create a neat effect of interconnection. It's not only about smoke/aromatics though; I really enjoy drawing hair sticking out from the frames, too. I must admit - your dear creator hasn't read a lot of comics in her life, but you'll have to put up with me 😎 - I do not see this happening in a lot of comics or mangas. Or perhaps I'm just attempting to read the wrong ones all the time 🤪

Here's another one peculiarity I really grew really fond of within the last few years. Whenever I draw limbs on the background that are directly behind the limbs on the foreground, I just fill the background one with diagonal strokes. Of course, I do it by hand every time. I did have an idea to automate this and just fill the areas I need with the predefined strokes/crosshatch - luckily, Krita has an amazing function to add a fill layer with a wide variety of parameters of choice. But for such a simple task as illustrated above, I just do it manually all the time. Also, it looks natural and with a slight degree of imperfection - that's just what I need! And pistols... ugh. Pistols take a certain talent to draw well, too 😁

And this... Honestly, why am I even showing this one to you?.. 🤔 Probably because I really like Lothar's face on this picture. Once coloured, it won't disappoint you.

Welp, that's probably enough for a very short post in between sessions of creation and life undertakings.

Starting a Newsletter (overview)

Think about how many times you check your email per day. Personally, I check it every hour even when I know I’m not receiving an important email- it’s simply a habit of mine and many other people have. Over 4 billion people open their inboxes daily which makes it the ideal site to promote your affiliate links, blogs, building relationships with your audience and more. You may associate having a newsletter with online businesses and blogs but guess what- even someone who isn’t on social media or does not own any businesses can do it too. You can literally talk about anything and everything from how your day was to your new favorite movie. For the most part, it’s free of cost and all you really need to know is how to type and edit (it doesn’t even have to be on photoshop).

Like many things in life, starting a newsletter is gonna require effort but once you get it going you’ll likely start to see more traffic to your website or even sales if you’re a business. To me it doesn’t matter which order you start as long as you are doing it. So here’s a checklist of what you should be doing:

Coming up with an identity/concept/aesthetic. You don’t need one if you’re getting started but having a distinct online identity is always beneficial as it makes you stand out more.

Design your newsletter template! Think about when was the last time you actually read an email. Think about what made you interested and try using that. If you’ve never opened one that's okay, you can find a lot of inspiration online but you can checkout my board if you’re lost.

Write content that solves a solution.and make it short. Most people receive a ton of emails per day and many do not have the time to be reading an entire 10 page essay you saved in your google docs. Keep it straight to the point and short.

Add a lead magnet or freebie! This could be a planner, journal page, excel sheet, pdf-guide, coupon/discount or anything really. The more convenient and practical it is the better.

Build a newsletter email. Most people do this by using their social media or websites contact information exchanges.

Use email analytics to determine who your audience is and posting accordingly. What time are your audiences generally reading your emails (use an email scheduler for your convenience), who is it? What kind of emails brought consistent conversion rates? What design layout do people respond to best? Create a content and distribution plan!

Encourage call to action/interact with your audience. You can do this by asking questions and letting them reply or being quite frank and telling them straight out that they should check out this or subscribe to this for more.

Find out how you’re going to monetize your content.

The most important aspect of a newsletter would be its content. You could have a well designed newsletter which can lead to more clicks but if your content is not valuable then it will not likely create conversion.
