"Do you think you weren't loved enough?" She tilted her head and looked at me. Then she gave a sharp, little nod. "Somewhere between 'not enough' and 'not at all'. I was always hungry for love. Just once, I wanted to know what it was like to get my fill of it - to be fed so much love I couldn't take any more. Just once. But they never gave that to me. Never, not once. If I tried to cuddle up and beg for something, they'd just shove me away and yell at me. 'No! That costs too much!' It's all I ever heard. So I made up my mind I was going to find someone who would love me unconditionally 365 days a year. I was still in primary school at the time, but I made up my mind once and for all."

Craving for Canaan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami in April and the term “Flemish landscape” caught my attention. I just had to look it up.
Turns out that Flemish is a painting style that appeals to nature. It portrays different types of landscapes like mountains, rivers, and forests.
The day before I read this book, we drove to Cagayan for a church event. While we were passing over the area of Tumauini, I told one of our churchmates who travels back and forth to Cagayan that I won't ever get tired of marveling at this landscape. It was a view of the Cagayan River over the extensive Minanga Bridge with a vast grassland spreading around it.

When my family and I went to Cabagan to spend Holy Week, I was also quietly appreciating that same scenery. It reminds me of Israel for some reason. It reminds me of Canaan, God’s promised land for his people. Interestingly, God not only calls it the land of the promise, but a place of rest for His people.
I've learned that the Greek word for resting place is ‘katapausis.’ Not the verb or the action of rest, but the place of rest. A literal resting place. It’s the Canaan that the Israelites craved for when they were wandering in the wilderness for 40 years.
When I survey landscapes like these, I can't help but think of peaceful existence. A place where there is no striving, competing, or having to prove anything. Just cows grazing on grassland, trees that stand in silence, and the sun that sets as surely as it rises, not even seeking attention. It’s very descriptive of the gospel. I came to realize that to receive the gospel is to rest, because the work is finished.
I'm not saying do nothing, but in my earlier years of following Jesus, I thought I always had to be doing— a broken view of what it means to follow Christ. My notion was that I had to do all sorts of service and sacrifice to prove I'm saved. And Tim Keller says that's just a subtle form of religion.
Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and through his death and resurrection, it is all done. Jesus sought me and saved me, and other than receiving that free gift, I have no other part in it. My tendency to perform is only pulling me away from the gospel.
“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength..." - Isaiah 30:15

Somber, hilarious, dark and surreal. Those are some of the most prominent impressions you get when you read Murakami’s novels. I recently read Murakami’s Dance Dance Dance and got to thinking: why is he so damned popular?! Is it the semi-similar protagonist? The simple yet poignant prose he uses to attract and reel in readers into this Murakami Universe? Is it the explicit sexual scenes in almost all of his novels? Or, perhaps, is it all of the above? One thing you have to know about Murakami is his prose feels smooth, flowing, simple, and yet, it is at the same time beautiful. A reviewer praised his ability to make everyday life poetry. And I tend to agree. Whether you’re reading about the depressive episode of a lonely college kid’s life in Norwegian Wood or the thrilling and hilarious After Dark, the hallucination of a disillusioned man in South of the Border, West of the Sun or the surreal and symbolic tale of an unnamed narrator through Sapporo, Tokyo and Hawaii in Dance Dance Dance, there is a quality in the prose that you can’t find in other writers. Perhaps that’s why he’s got a grip on his readers, with his masterful combination of poetry and everyday life, beauty and the grotesque, the romantic and the realistic. It is what makes Murakami…well, Murakami. WHERE TO START? An obvious answer would be Norwegian Wood, his most realistic novel and, perhaps, the easiest one to read of the bunch (Midori will absolutely captivate you). But I would also recommend After Dark and Hear the Wind Sing. Quote taken from Norwegian Wood. Written by @jasonadrl06 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj7_QhjSdvX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Yesterday, I went to Atami for business. + In the morning, I bought a MAKUNOUCHI BENTO (boxed lunch box) in Shinjuku. It was too hot, crowded, and noisy on the SHINKANSEN on the way there, and I didn't feel like spreading it out on the train, so I ate it on the way back. It was delicious. Authentic MAKUNOUCHI BENTO does not betray you. Unfortunately, there was not enough white rice. I wonder if people these days don't like white rice, or there is not enough of it. Cold rice is delicious. + And "TAI-MESHI" (sea bream rice) from Odawara, bought at Atami station. The "TAI-MESHI" was mentioned in Haruki Murakami's "Norwegian Wood". This has been on my mind for 30 years. Reiko-san criticized (?) the SHINKANSEN and said, "Why don't SHINKANSEN trains have windows that don't open? I used to love to open the window of the train in Odawara and buy "TAI-MESHI"! " "TAI-MESHI" could be the subject of "criticism of the SHINKANSEN. I wondered what kind of BENTO it was. + The result was disappointing. It was not so much that it tasted bad, but rather, what the heck is this? I didn't expect it to be sweet. Did Reiko like this kind of sweet food? Reiko was in her 40s around 1969, so she was born in the 1920s? I guess she was around the same age as her aunt and my own mother. I think my aunts would have been thrilled to eat this. + Anyway, I was tired of going to ATAMI. It's not the place to go on Saturday. Let's go on a weekday next time.

I didn’t mean to come back this early but my notifications were going hammmm.
I tried to catch myself up to date but the things I saw that made me want to come back–one of them being “SF” claiming they were the original owner of my account. The last post they tagged me in said they had an apology on something(?) but I couldn’t see if it was for out right lying about me.
“SF”, why did you follow me if I was the one who “stole” your account?
Tumblr media
Why did you message me to promote your account if I had stole it? Wouldn’t this be a perfect opportunity to call me out or message me if you were the “original” NW?
Tumblr media
I actually had a couple conversations with the real SF on my old account, if you want to share, since you are SF, of course, you would know!
If that’s not enough, I also have some other ways you could prove you are the “original” Norwegianwoodtarot!
I am the same person who ran Norwegianwood last time, again, any more proof needed I have it!! 💙💙

"Anyhow, I was thinking, that time. I was thinking how great it would be if that had been the first time in my life a boy had kissed me. If I could switch around the order of my life, I would absolutely absolutely make that my first kiss. And then I would live the rest of my life thinking stuff like, Hey, I wonder whatever happened to that boy named Watanbe I gave my first kiss to in the cafe, now that she’s fifty-eight? Wouldn’t that be great?” #Norwegianwood #HarukiMurakami

«Не обращай ни на кого внимания и если думаешь, что можешь стать счастливым, не упускай этого шанса и будь счастлив. Как я могу судить по своему опыту, в жизни таких шансов бывает раз, два — и обчелся, а упустив их, жалеешь потом всю жизнь».
