Holding shreds

T, 5k, Wangxian
Summary: An accident on a practical lecture has the Lan realising the state of Wei Wuxian's body. Or, the angsty body swap AU my soul needed. Kay's comments: Barisan once again fixes things by putting Wei Wuxian through it! Only in this story, it's also Lan Wangji who suffers, because oops, accidental body swap during the Cloud Recesses Study Arc. Loving the Wei Wuxian Whump in this story and how the Lans unite behind Wei Wuxian and immediately agree that he can't go back to Lotus Pier. Inspired by a @angstymdzsthoughts prompt. Excerpt: “Wangji?” Lan Qiren walks up to them, looking at Lan Zhan… Lan Zhan in his body. “Shufu-” Lan Zhan breathes with what can only be a grimace. “You are in pain.” Lan Qiren notes. “Did the curse cause more than an exchange of souls?” He hovered, worry now clear in his voice. “I don’t know.” Lan Zhan looked back at Wei Wuxian. “It hurts.” There may be a question there. ‘Are you in pain too?’ “I… I don’t-” Wei Wuxian took stock of his own state. He rolled his shoulders, gasping as he didn’t feel them pop. His back didn’t hold it’s usual tightness and his ribs didn’t shock him with the deep pinch every other breath. “I…” It doesn’t hurt! He tries to say. “Ha… Hahaha…” He laughs breathlessly. He brings his trembling hands to his face, all ten fingers are straight! “HAHAHAHA!” It turns into howling. Fuck. Wei Wuxian bends over, clutching his stomach as he tries to reign in a laughter that is not quite his own. His eyes sting at the lack of control over a body he doesn’t know. A body that doesn’t hurt. After a few more moments, laughter fades into chuckling and dies into breathless gasps. His sight is blurry and the world feels faded.
pov wei wuxian, canon divergence, cloud recesses study arc, wei wuxian whump, body swap, no sunshot campaign, angstymdzsthoughts, chronic pain, hurt wei wuxian, hurt lan wangji, implied/referenced child abuse, jiang family bashing, good uncle lan qiren, good sibling lan xichen, wei wuxian has self-esteem issues, wei wuxian is bad at self-care, angst with a happy ending, fluff, getting together, smart wei wuxian

Wei Wuxian sighed dreamily to himself as he finished his letter to Lan Zhan, his feet kicking happily against the floor. He felt giddy, so many happy emotions inside his little heart. After rolling on the floor for a while and still with blushing cheeks, he finally sealed the letter ready to send.
On his way out, he found his shijie with a serene smile and a letter on her own hands.
"To the peacock, shijie?" Wei Wuxian asked, grinning.
"A-Xian...." Jiang Yanli shook her head slightly "Yes, it's for Jin-gongzi. Are you sending that for your Lan Zhan?"
Wei Wuxian almost let out a happy giggle, but held on, looking coy "Yeah."
"Jiang-guniang! Jiang-guniang! Yu-furen is asking for you!" a disciple yelled from a distance, waving high to get attention.
"Oh. Thank you!" she waved back "Oh, no. A-Xian, could you send this for me? I don't want to make mother wait."
"Sure, shijie! Count on me!"
Jiang Yanli chuckled and patted his shoulder before walking away.
A day later, Jin Zixuan was excited to open the letter although he pretended otherwise. He walked quickly to his room to have privacy and sat excitedly by his table.
He opened the letter.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!"
Jin Zixuan let the letter fall from his hands, too shocked to do anything. Because inside wasn't Jiang-guniang pretty handwriting or flowery words. No. That was Wei Wuxian's barely readable scrawl saying...... Ugh he doesn't even want to remember what he read. What did he mean by love? Is he... Is Wei Wuxian a cutsleeve?! Was Lan Wangji?!
And not happy enough, behind the letter was another, smaller piece of paper with a drawing of two man (please let him pretend ignorance here, for his own sake) kissing!
He wants to cry. Maybe throw himself staircase down. Why is this happening to him?!
And in the silence of Cloud Recesses, Lan Wangji is softly laughing as he realizes that the letter in his hands is Jiang-guniang's for Jin-gongzi and not his Wei Ying's. It's definitely his lover's doing, Lan Wangji knows him enough to be certain.
Ah, how much he loves his Wei Ying.
He sealed the letter back and wrote a quick and small note about it, before going out to send it to Lanling, in hopes Jin-gongzi would send his letter to Gusu.

It’s my Sunshot Campaign fic’s anniversary, Before the Sun Sets, so I’m suffering with feelings trapped on the battlefield that I need to ramble about. This beautiful Chengzhan Sunshot Campaign piece I commissioned from @rounove is too big for this site, but please look at a cropped version.
Tumblr media
The full image in all its low-res beauty and me gushing about things below:

I always enjoy taking the opportunity to gush about all the details in artworks. Like, obviously I’m forever in love with my otp’s expressions here. Jiang Cheng’s cheek was cut in battle, narrow escape situation for our beloathed companions, and after they found the illusion of shelter, they can take care of any injuries. Lan Wangji is focused on this, completely, diligently, and wipes the blood away so carefully, leaning close. Jiang Cheng, sitting on this tree, sore and in pain, stares up at this unscathed, seemingly radiating face and appears to feel a different kind of ache. His expression murders me every time, he’s fighting a battle he’ll lose here, reaching up to cup Lan Wangji’s face with his bloodstained hand. AH! And what does Lan Wangji see and feel, with his eyes trapped on Jiang Cheng’s mouth, with his lips already parting, when he should take care of the wound? AH!
Jiang Cheng’s hand with Zidian on it already found a resting place on Lan Wangji’s thigh, a trail of blood left where it ran up from his knee. Steadying Lan Wangji as he leant in to look at the injury? Pulling, perhaps? All the white, so pristine robes draping over Jiang Cheng’s purple robes makes me feel all the things. Lan Wangji is a protective cloud brighter than anything in this moment. AH!
Tumblr media
Their swords resting next to them, a mirror of their positions. Sometimes I just love to stare at the swords, all the details, the small, delicate patterns on the sheaths, the ruffled, soft looking tassels. Bichen would slip to the forest ground if Sandu weren’t steadily holding it up. And Sandu is safely shielded by Bichen. AH!
Tumblr media
And the background! The rainy darkness that followed them to this spot to haunt or shield them, down a river that looks like spilled ink rippling the reflection of the trees. And this ancient, magnificent tree that keeps them dry from the rain with those thick leaves. AH!
Tumblr media
I just love falling into this picture and thinking of how they ended up here. The pain, the suffering, the brushes of skin and fleeting touches that lead to them literally falling into each other’s warmth here. Now kiss!

marital customs by shijieswife

marital customs
by shijieswife
M, WIP, 2k, Wangxian
Summary: Cangse, with the growing up on a mountain under the hand of an immortal cultivator who had not descended in several hundred years, often has not a clue, about a single one of the customs down the mountain. She has very little idea of customs, or respect for them, despite her decades living down from the mountain. And this, unlike other things, is something Changze has no experience in either - the art of dealing with suitors for your first born child’s hand. Kay's comments: Ah, I am so in love with stories where Wei Wuxian's parents live!! And get to see him grow up!! And get to see him fall in love and tease him about it!! And also get to look out for him that he's getting treated right by his Lan boyfriend he has!! A very cute and very funny story and I can't wait to see Lan Wangji actually meeting the parents. Excerpt: So, of course, when their sweet little boy comes to them, all blushing and sappy smiles, she tells him “Ah, A-Ying, you know we don’t need to deal with all those formalities.” “Mama, it’s Lan Zhan,” A-Ying says. “I told him we should just elope - we’re not even doing a proper wedding, anyways! Lan Qiren’s made a rule on that big rock, about that, you know - but, Lan Zhan said I deserve all the respect he can give, and apparently that includes asking my family for their permission.” Another thing Cangse has never understood - the tabooness of inter class marriage. Arbitrary divisions - her, considered high class, just because some immortal taught her a few kicks and talismans, even though she knew she had been found discarded, an offering to any beasts roaming the forest. Had she grown up here, she would have been considered the lowest of the low, not even worthy of talking to a servant of Changze’s standing - who, as things stood now, had risen above his station by marrying and having a child with her. So what, if Gusu Lan’s precious jade was getting married to a son of a servant?
pov cangse sanren, canon divergence, cangse sanren and wei changze live, no sunshot campaign, meeting the parents, fluff and humor, protective parents, parent-child relationship, happy ending, marriage, implied sexual content

when wei wuxian woke up, the first thing he felt was his dry lips and his aching throat, the first thing he saw was white, and there was few to no sounds around him. his brain was slowly coming up with answers - he was in cloud recesses, for the classes, he was redirect to the cold pond after his punishment.
"wei gongzi." came a soft voice from somewhere to his left, it was a older man, probably lan qiren's age, and obviously a lan "good morning, how do you feel?" the approached his bed with a tiny smile and wei wuxian realized he was probably in the healers quarters.
"thirsty." wei wuxian said, coughing a little.
the man, probably a doctor, gave him a cup, and then another one, both full of cool water. wei wuxian thanked him after drinking everything.
"what do you remember last?" the doctor asked.
"i was at the cold pond. it was very cold." he shrugged.
the doctor nodded, looking thoughtful "wei gongzi, you were found near drowned and too cold to be healthy. you nearly died, and you would if your friend didn't question lan-er-gongzi about you."
"...oh."
"we are all glad nothing serious came out of it, and we apologize for our negligence." the doctor bowed.
"oh! please, don't apologize!" wei wuxian said nervously "it was my fault, really. i..." he bit his lower lip, hesitating "i was probably, unconsciously doing it on purpose. i remember thinking i should get out, but..."
"but you didn't."
wei wuxian nodded, not looking at the doctor, who stayed silence for a moment.
"wei gongzi, could you tell me why you would drown yourself?"
wei wuxian opened his mouth, ready to joke and deflect, but then closed it, hesitating once more before letting out a deep sigh.
"i'm tired."
"tired? of what, if i may ask?"
wei wuxian laughed "i've been yelled at, accused, not heard, been called ridiculous and shameless, punished for things others aren't... and continuously rejected by the person i wanted to befriend the most. even old man lan threw a scroll at me!" he sighed again "why is that you lans expect we outsiders to change our ways of living from one night to another like a duck walking to water? it's unfair."
the doctor said nothing, only staring at him and letting him talk.
"like... we're all supposed to accept that lans follow all their rules all the times even when outside their territory and the we accommodate them on ours respecting this, but why we need to pretend to be like them while here?" wei wuxian continued "why when i do something that is completely normal to me, i'm called shameless?! why do i have to feel ashamed to be the way i am?"
"it's unfair." the doctor nodded.
"exactly!" wei wuxian laughed "i'm tired of these expectations, of the punishments, of being hurt every time i try to make conversations... i just want to go home."
"i understand." the doctor sighed "should i write to your parents to come and fetch you?" he smiled softly.
"...please?" wei wuxian's voice shook with unshed tears.
the doctor patted his shoulder with a nod before asking him to rest while he asked for a meal and write that letter.
after sending it, the doctor sighed, long and deeply, and walked to where he knew the current sect leader was probably having his evening tea with his nephews (and waiting for him to tell them that wei gongzi is awake and well).
after bows and niceties, the doctor asked to speak frankly.
"i just sent for the boy's parents to fetch him." he started "he is not adapting well to the cloud recesses and, frankly, i'm quite disappointed on you, Qiren."
"why is that?" lan qiren asked, looking surprised.
"the boy is being targeted and almost bullied by our sect, breaking as much of our rules as he has, if not more." the man sighed.
"i'm sure is just a misunderstanding." lan xichen smiled softly "wei gongzi is being treated as any other of our guest disciples."
the doctor looked at him with a serious expression "i do hope you are not as blind as you sound, lan gongzi. wei wuxian himself told me your uncle threw a scroll at him, that he's being yelled at and punished more than his peers."
"this is serious accusations." lan qiren said, looking uncomfortable.
"yet, i believe in them. and when he asked me to go back home, i said yes."
no one spoke a word for a long moment and the doctor wanted to sigh again.
"qiren, i know you don't like his mother, but our rules said to not blame the child, and not treat them differently. you should know it more than anyone else. nonetheless, he's being hurt while trying to befriend a peer from our sect and that made things worse. this child thinks he does not belong here, that he's not welcome."
lan xichen's smile seemed frozen, and young lan wangji was just sitting there with a blank expression, while lan qiren just looked more and more uncomfortable.
holding back a sigh, the doctor bowed to them "i will take my leave. wei gongzi will spend the night in the healing pavilion before going back to where he's staying. i ask for him to be released from classes until his parents arrive." with another bow, he left.
less than a week later, cangse sanren and wei changze arrived with tense smiles, waiting for their son by the gates and not stepping inside cloud recesses. the guards were uncomfortable, feeling that something was wrong as they clearly remember that those two were welcome to enter.
jiang wanyin and nie huaisang were the only guest disciples to walk wei wuxian until the first step of the long stairs that led to the foot of the mountain. the lan doctor wasn't there, but had come by earlier to with the boy a good journey, and gave him a bag full of tea leaves that would help him calm his mind.
wei wuxian waved with a big smile to his friends before hugging his parents and walking with them to the city, talking loudly about his experience and complaining about the food the most.
both boys that stayed behind, were surprised to see lan wangji standing not much far, looking rather intensively to where the small family of three once was. but before any of them could say anything, he turned back and walked away, looking rather annoyed.
"does he hate wei-xiong that much?" nie huaisang asked out loud behind his fan
"looks like." jiang wanyin shrugged.
(a year later, during a cultivation conference, lan wangji would try to apologize, but being inexperienced on these matters, he ended up just hurting wei wuxian again, though, after a few months and another meeting between them, he could at least secure that, yes, they could be friends.
years later, after almost losing wei wuxian on a night hunting, lan wangji finally told him the truth, apologizing and confessing.)

Wei Wuxian really got an arrow shot in between two of his lungs ribs, pulled it out, and then tossed it back and fucking killed the guy who shot him - If that's not fucking terrifying (and more than a little awe-inspiring) I don't know what is.
