If Yugi's being honest with himself, he's always dreamed of having a family with you since the two of you started dating five years prior

But, since you wanted to wait until the two of you were married, he respected that wish, showing his affection in any way he could think of (flowers just because, kisses and hugs and gentle touches that he knew made you melt)

Once the two of you were married, though...

Let's just say that night was pretty damn spicy

Fast forward about 2 months

You'd been feeling extremely nauseous lately, most days beginning either with that feeling or by throwing up.

When talking to Téa about your symptoms, she suggested taking a pregnancy test

Yugi, like the sweetheart he is, waited outside your shared bathroom, pacing a little bit

He couldn't help it, he was nervous!

But, when you came out of the bathroom a few minutes later and showed him the test result, he went from nervous to elated.

"We're gonna have a baby... We're gonna be parents!"

Does one of those moves where he picks you up and spins you before kissing you and your stomach

Good luck convincing Yugi to get you to do anything for the next 6 months or so lol, he can and will pamper you during your pregnancy

Yami Yugi/ Pharaoh Atem

Unlike Yugi, he hadn't really given kids much thought

But, he noticed the way your eyes lingered on children running past while the two of you were dating

After about two years, the question came up in a conversation the two of you had about the future

He admitted that he hadn't thought about it, but that he loved you and if he were to have children, he wanted them to be with you

About 2 years later, the two of you were married, and anxiously waiting for the results of a pregnancy test

Atem held you close, in that moment, he felt nervous

Even if that result did pop up with a positive, that wouldn't mean that he would be a good father...

When you saw the results, you were thrilled, but you saw the doubt in his eyes

You snapped him out of his thoughts with a touch, reminding him of the feats he's accomplished, and that any child would be lucky to have him as a father

It didn't really hit for him until he got to hold the baby in his arms 9 months later

The nurse had showed him how to hold a baby before placing the little one in his arms

It was pretty hilarious seeing him tense up with a look like a deer in headlights

But... The more he held the baby in his arms, the softer that look became and the more relaxed he was

"I promise my son/daughter... I'll do everything I can to protect you" He promised before gently kissing the baby's forehead

Overall, just a big softie for his little prince/princess

Believe me, with all my heart, I wanna say that Joey was calm and collected when he found out, but... He wasn't (the picture is pretty close to his reaction, honestly)

Joey has always wanted kids, don't get me wrong

Buuuut, he wasn't expecting to have kids this early

For context, you guys were two years into the relationship, but you'd used protection

The only problem is that the one specific time in question fell into the 3 percentile that condoms aren't effective....

He was in a panic when he found out

As for Kaiba....

He's a CEO and a Duel Monsters Champion, he doesn't have time for kids

Except for Mokuba, but that's his brother...

So, when you found out you were pregnant, you were understandably nervous and afraid

Afraid that the worst would happen, that Seto would leave you and want nothing to do with his child

While your fears were understandable, you forgot that Seto Kaiba has a soft spot for his loved ones, you especially

You tried to avoid him, but a couple days of that had him pinning you against the wall in his office to get you to talk to him

He was worried about you, and asked you what was going on, telling you to be honest with him

He was more alarmed when you broke down

Through tears, you told him you were pregnant, and he was the father

He held you close to him, his heart breaking when you begged him not to leave you

"I'm not going anywhere." He made you look at him. "I won't lie, the thought of being a father scares me... But, I promise, I'm going to do everything I can to be the best father I can be."

Seto Kaiba is, above all things, a man of his word

When Seto wasn't around, Mokuba helped you out, and you better believe that baby's been spoiled since before their birth...

Once he held the baby for the first time (ngl, the sight of his giraffe self cradling a tiny baby is both endearing and hilarious), it was hook, line and sinker

Safe to say, he ended up being a better father than he gave himself credit for

1. dance me to the end of love

this one was fun! i always like merging a character's outfit with the bg so i liked doing that again. picking the colors for elliots outfit was also enjoyable. ive wanted to make smth w that cover for a while

2. shame was still the tyrant of his life

i only wrote two nol and eli things this year and neither of them are finished. the first was a continuation of a scene where nol kisses elliot against the blue stained glass in his room--i once posted it but then i deleted it bc it made me feel woozy for its allusions to sex. i wanted to rebuild it and take a shot at it now that im comfortable writing n reading sex, but i never got very far. theres actually lots of nice parts! i just like nols dumb angsting the best!

i really wanted to focus on nol's eye here, but also not make it too obvious lol. i used a ps filter like a schmuck but i wanted it to be darker without making it even more difficult to see, so i took away their bodies and limited the colors to make it what it is.

i wrote some reflections about this one already here. i honestly was very (distressed voice) cant believe im writing pure fanfic for the first time in over ten years and lacked a lot of direction when i started bc uhhhhh terence has 8 and a half mins of screen time. i tried to convince myself that it's not much different than me stealing brucemont for my own evil devices, but the unique perspective of seeing quite so much fan content def influenced my interpretation. i wanted their relationship to be much more imbalanced from the get-go initially--dion using his power unintentionally and terence barely passing a thought abt it until later bc he's just so accustomed to obeying--but i ended up giving terence a lot more sway & ammunition in their argument. the breakfast bed thing is also smth im rly fond of.

there's also additional meta for this one here. i made a silly doodle abt it also. dion kept picking fights here! it honestly turned out how i expected. when i first started this fic, i was gonna have dion start out right in oriflamme and meet ter and kihel there, but i booted them to northreach so i could have this stretch of conflict. i think it's like. Bad Pacing. technically. if i still believe the conflict introduced in the next chapter is the core one, that is. which i sorrrrta do. but i dont care bc i rly like the visual of kihel laying in dion's lap and getting to put a gun on the wall w ahmed.

3. eines atems

its been two months since the last chapter and this chapter is humiliatingly not written. i have all my scrambled notes and scenes that i jotted down in between the first two chapters, so i have a full direction, but it's been really difficult to write lately. ive been devoting all my time to trying to recoup my mental health and work on my teredio secret santa. ill start next year with this wip as a priority, so for now i only have the photoshop edit for it. kihel is holding terence's hand--it's his pov turn.

overall i didnt like this year very much. i didn't read, create, research or do a lot even though i tried to. i became really disconnected from all of my friends bc im too tired to stay for rp or hold online conversations. at this point, i dont play ffxiv at all except the few times i managed to rp a little. i moved into nanny's house and have my own space, but don't have the presence of mind to do anything about my pc, books, and so on, although i did make a lot of progress rewrapping my books w fresh wraps and some other things. my plans for next year are to reach out to a couple of my friends, build my pc, relearn + rebuild + relaunch my queer lit blog on open source code, survive school, and rediscover the productivity ive lost the past few years.

teredio has helped me a LOT to find community, inspiration, and art in my loneliest year yet. im very proud of my fic and grateful every day to the ppl who have reached out to me about liking it. even if im sorry about my productivity rate in comparison to how many extraordinary writers there are in the ship's fandom, i know i have to be easy on myself to relearn how to write, create a writing schedule that works for me, and stop punishing myself when i cant get the words out.

For context, The Aviary is the endgame polycule of my fanfiction Haunted House Sweet Home. It's a canon/canon/OC ship, and you can learn more about it from the fic itself or by browsing the story tag. The polycule (if canon) from The God-Dragon’s Wife is Xinya and Yu-Qi being married, and Jao being (unofficially) a consort to the queen. Xinya and Jao would be girlfriends pretty much, and Jao and Yu-Qi would be metamours that cross the line into FWB sometimes.

34. How have their members’ respective family relationships influenced their polyamorous dynamics?

Gonna be honest, I have not done my research on polyamory in the Ottoman Empire. I have no idea what the prevailing attitudes were, or what the general opinions of people at the time would be. Haven't done the research for modern Japan either.

Personally, though, Feriha has been 1) already betrayed by her family 2) dead for so long that she doesn't care what they think. I think she'd actually be more inclined to do it if they disapproved.

Atem also wouldn't care, but because he couldn't possibly choose between either of them. It wouldn't be fair to them or himself, and he's more than willing to ride out cultural disapproval for what makes him and his partners happy.

It's present in the story that Yugi is hesitant to even say how he feels when he finds out Atem is/was married, but we all saw how that turned out. I think the concept of not being a homewrecker definitely held him back, but ultimately he can't put aside love for cultural expectation either. He's the poster child of Do It Scared.

58. How does the polycule celebrate anniversaries?

All three of them are very concerned everyone gets to spend time one-on-one, so every "single" anniversary (Yugi/Atem anniversary, Feriha/Atem anniversary, and Yugi/Feriha anniversary) are assumed to be celebrated completely separate unless they make plans otherwise. It's usually an entire afterlife "day" spent together, doing cute date activities, if present Atem may or may not force the other sit for a portrait, and sex.

When they celebrate their collective anniversary, it's pretty much the same thing but it's all three of them instead of one-on-one, but usually spread out over more than one "day." Sometimes they'll all agree to throw a big party for it and invite their afterlife friends and family, but most of the time it's just the three of them.

Fun fact, since time doesn't really exist in the afterlife, they just agree to celebrate their anniversaries whenever they feel like it!

14. What’s the craziest polycule drama they’ve experienced so far?

I think dating Jao dating her own queen while said queen is married to a literal dragon she's worshiped her entire life is some pretty intense poly drama. And not only is she dating her own queen now, while also being her personal assistant, that dragon wife is regularly checking her out now. She wasn't prepared for this, please send help.

The story behind this one is actually my favourite classical composer story of all time: Rachmaninoff desperately wanted to become friends with his fellow composer Stravinsky, but wasn't quite sure how to break the ice. He heard Stravinsky liked a certain type of expensive honey, and just randomly showed up at Stravinsky's house in the middle of the night with a big ol' jar of honey. It worked. They became friends.

BUT ALSO THIS IS LIKE, PEAK BAKURA BEHAVIOUR, ISN'T IT?! (as I am rapidly adding more red yarn and thumbtacks to my 'tenuous connections between YGO and classical music' corkboard, a large hook comes to drag me off stage)

Hence this excerpt but with a more Jounouchi-esque food substituted:

When the buzzer in Jounouchi’s flat goes off at midnight, he’s not sure what to expect. The only people who ever drop by unannounced are Honda and Anzu. Anzu has a key and has never once in her life bothered with the buzzer, and Honda only comes at ungodly hours of the morning to clean his apartment and lecture him the entire time while Jounouchi watches TV in a half-awake stupor. “Hello?” Jounouchi says into the receiver. “Hello,” a soft voice returns. A pause. “Bakura? The hell are you doing here at midnight?” Bakura is silent for a moment, and then: “Do you like shrimp?”

I'll put the next one under a cut 'cause this is getting long, but it's a YGODM rewrite where Seto's mind crush goes. Very differently lol

Anyone who knows me probably remembers this one 'cause I've been poking away at this for actual years 💀 but very roughly (??!) it's a YGODM rewrite where Mokuba is Seto's half-brother and they don't grow up together. So when Seto gets mind-crushed he doesn't have any reason to 'put the pieces back together.' He's in his mind crush coma for two full years, and then Isono manages to find Mokuba in foster care. Yuugi & Atem's relationship is really different in this one too! It's a much slower burn to Friendship™️and there's more 'oh god an arson obsessed ghost is in my body' fear and paranoia. Basically just me enjoying dark freaky Season 0 vibes for way longer and easing into the whole plot later on when the kids are college-aged.

Kaiba could hear and respond to noise, certainly; the whole reason he wasn’t hooked up to a mess of tubes in a hospital bed was because he could eat with assistance, and raise and lower his arms obediently when asked to in order to facilitate clothes-changes and cleaning. The question was whether he understood any of those noises in a meaningful way, and whether he ever would again. It had already been two years. The outlook didn’t seem so good, these days. Anzu gingerly sat down in the chair closest to Kaiba. She took another long, hard look at his vacant face. Her expression slowly began to shift. Pity. An emotion that Yuugi couldn’t allow himself to feel towards Kaiba. To pity the frail, twisted boy before him was to condescend to him, to disrespect their relationship. Yuugi had done this to him, and so he owed it to Kaiba to remember him as he had been - tall and powerful with a loud, strident voice - vicious, calculating, eyes shining like the cruelly sharp edge of a diamond - alive. Anzu reached out and gently, gently laid her hand on top of Kaiba’s. “Hi, Kaiba-kun,” she said softly. “We brought your diploma.”

Chapter 1

Atem wasn't even surprised anymore.

Exasperated, desperate, but not surprised. The last months had been getting progressively worse after all. Really, he should've expected this.

"Listen," he hissed with the little patience he had left, "I am not some spoiled tourist. Lives depend on me getting there in time. And if you can't get me there," he gestured derisively at the broken parts of the supposedly top class ship, "then tell me who can!"

The man looked at him calculatingly, before finally relaxing and drawling, "Well, you are trying to leave Federation space, so your pickings are slim. Needs a whole lot of paperwork to even get permission. That alone would take most ships days - if not weeks - at the very least to set up. Buuuut - I think I do know someone who could help you. Far as I remember old Solomon still has his permit, and is flying in that direction anyway. I meant to meet him here while both our ships filled their tanks. But I already sent him a rain check after your emissary in spe insisted the repairs couldn't wait - so he's likely not staying long. He's over in Bay 613. I can send a message, but if I were you I would run. No telling how long he's gonna wait."

Atem cursed in a highly un-princely fashion and gave the order - in his native Khemetian - to grab the most important gifts. They didn't have time to carry all of them over.

Grabbing one of the rings from his hand he turned to the man again.

"Send that message. And continue the journey as soon as you've finished your repairs. I will meet you there."

Handing the solid gold ring with its precious stones off to the man, he pulled out his rather new tablet for quick directions. It had definitely been overpriced, gift or not. Not even two month old and already much slower than it should have been. Stupid, cutthroat Federation tech-

Atem finally rushed forward. Blind, desperate hope to prevent a senseless war in his heart. To provide a future for his people.

Or at the very least buy them time to prepare with his own life.

"Only a fool would willingly travel through Zorkian space. Nevermind visiting their homeplanet. So no, I will not be flying you there. But!" the old man continued before Atem could further voice his desperation.

At this point he wasn't above begging and he feared it showed.

"I know there's a trading station with a direct connection - if you are fool enough to step foot on one of the Zorkian ships too. I can get you there, but it's going to cost you. Not that you will have use of any of your luxury where you are going."

"Thank you for the warning, Captain. I believe that this should suffice?" The number on the check was not a bad one for the distance, but admittedly on the low side considering they were leaving Federation space. Before the old man could voice his open displeasure Atem continued, "I will double it if you get me there in under a month."

"Triple. This old lady isn't made for speed, and on top of running her ragged she will need a whole lot more to drink."

"Deal." Atem agreed, aware of the calculating glint in the man's eyes. There was something about the captain that warned Atem not to underestimate him. Despite the jolly nature he had at first shown there was clear intelligence there. If they negotiated for long, like his people usually did, he feared the price would only rise.

And he really didn't have the time.

Nor the stomach, if he was entirely honest with himself. In which case he would have to admit that he would likely not be doing much negotiating at his destination either. Or ever again.

Honesty was overrated.

Captain Solomon blinked, and looked at him for a moment that felt like an eternity. Atem couldn't read him, even though that was literally what he was trained to do.

With people of his own culture, rather than planets all over the universe.

Not being able to read even a simple ship captain was disconcerting. Disheartening, really.

But in the end the captain laughed. They shook hands and that was that. Atem's fate was once again sealed.

And if there had been a hint of pity in the old man's eyes when he told them where to go, Atem ignored it.

He had been getting entirely too good at that.

Perhaps the pity for once had not been for his coming fate, but rather for the immense discomfort he and his people would be facing the next weeks.

"The cargo bay. They expect us to sleep in the cargo bay?!"

"They don't usually transport passengers. It was hard enough getting passage at all, and we all agreed before leaving that our mission is more important than our comfort. Did we not?" Atem admonished his attendant. Shada? Shadi?

He had read up on all six of them before undertaking the journey. Each of them volunteers without family. High enough up the hierarchy to matter, low enough they weren't irreplaceable.

The least he could do was remember their names.

But Atem was tired, tempers were high, and most of all he just wanted his friends right now. Mana who could make anything look like a good thing, could make him laugh when he was crying. Mahad who always knew what to say, who had fought tooth and nail and had to be restrained when Atem left anyway.

Atem couldn't let him come along, as he would have if given the chance.

And he couldn't not go. His people needed him.

Even with all that in mind he was still glad when one of the crewmen came by and at least fabricated them some beds.

A young man - boy? - with wild, colorful hair. Same height as his, but Atem was short for a Khemetian. And Federation people all seemed to be giants.

Quickly silencing his attendants muttering, he nodded his head in thanks - a federation gesture he had picked up from their diplomats.

There was nothing comfortable about this journey or the destination, but at least he wouldn't already be hurting all over when he arrived.

how to win at dreidel: a yugioh hanukkah fic [ ao3 link ]

yugi convinces the kaibas to come to his hanukkah party with the promise of games. it goes as well as can be expected with kaiba and jonouchi in the same room.

"I just don't know if we have enough room in the shop for that many extra guests…" Sugoroku pouts, stroking his chin as he looks over the invitations Yugi is making for his Hanukkah party.

Yugi rolls his eyes. "Grandpa, we've held tournaments here, I think we can manage three more people than the usual group. Right, mom?"

Yugi's mom chuckles. "You can bring whoever you want as long as they help clean up."

Sugoroku huffs. "There you have it. Atem will help clean up, but I'm not sure about these other two."

Yugi groans. "Okay, then, I won't ask you to host. I'll just do it at my apartment, where I can invite whoever I want, how about that?"

Sugoroku huffs indignantly. "Don't say that. You know I love hosting. I just don't like the Kaibas."

Yugi sighs. "I know, but it's the first time since Anzu left that everyone's gonna be able to get together all at once. You don't even have to talk to Kaiba, there'll be plenty of other people."

"Alright, alright. I'm kicking him out if he causes a scene, though."

Yugi rolls his eyes, knowing full well that his grandfather is just as likely to cause a scene as Kaiba is.

Kaiba and Mokuba are the last ones to arrive. Mokuba bursts through the door excitedly, while Kaiba trails behind him a little reluctantly. They're both way overdressed, having a wildly different conception of party attire than the rest of the group. Mokuba is delighted by the fact that no one else is wearing a tie and takes his off, tossing it to Kaiba before strolling further into the shop.

The chatter dies down and Kaiba feels all eyes on him and most of them are not thrilled to see him. Yugi's mother and grandfather, Yugi, Atem, Anzu, Miho, Honda, Jonouchi, Otogi, and Bakura… It feels like walking into a firing squad, rather than a party. Kaiba calmly goes and stands by Yugi, one hand in his pocket.

"When do we play the game?" Mokuba asks, breaking the tension as he hops up on a counter, near Honda.

"That's later," Yugi says. "You two barely made it in time for the candles. Come on, by the window."

Three hanukkiyot have been brought out for the party. Sugoroku's, an old and elegant silver one with colorful jars for oil candles. Yugi's, a small one in a tin that he'd gotten from Chabad when he moved out. Anzu's, an electric Hello Kitty one. Before they light them, though, Anzu pulls out a box and hands it to Yugi. "I got you something."

Yugi's eyes light up as he opens the box quickly, then grins wider when he sees the contents. Nine colorful, interlocking pieces make up a puzzle-inspired hanukkiah. "Atem, look," he beams.

Atem glances, then grins, giving him a quick thumbs up.

Yugi quickly sets up the new one before going through the blessings and getting the candles lit, alongside Anzu. Kaiba, clueless about the whole situation, has to resort to eavesdropping on Honda and Jonouchi of all people answering Otogi's questions.

Most years, Sugoroku tells the story, with occasional interjections from Yugi's mother when he embellishes a little too much. But he insists he has to tell it a little differently each year or it won't be as interesting. Anzu had eventually joined in on correcting him when he got it "wrong". This year, it's the first year after Anzu moved to New York and the first year Atem is there as a separate entity from Yugi. And Yugi is nineteen and plenty old enough to run his own parties. This year, it's Yugi's turn to tell the story.

One year, right after his Bar Mitzvah, they'd tried to get him to take over the storytelling from Sugoroku. He made an effort to mumble through a few bits and pieces before getting too nervous to continue, especially since Anzu had asked him to speak up. Then, when he had actual friends to bring over, he didn't really want to try telling the Hanukkah story in front of Honda or Jonouchi.

This year… there's a determination in how Yugi carries himself. He says the blessings without stumbling, even though he can hear Otogi whispering questions to Honda and Jonouchi. But Yugi is not about to sing in front of everyone he knows, so when Anzu suggests they do sing, he declares that she can lead them in songs if she wants. She gets through one, entirely solo, then stares at the rest of them. "When did this turn into a performance?" she asks, stifling a laugh.

"I just like listening to you…" Miho says, giving Anzu a kiss on the cheek.

Anzu smiles. "You're excused, Miho… but the rest of you better start singing. Come on, Jonouchi, Honda, you know some of these, at least."

Once they get started again, Atem nudges Yugi to encourage him to sing, quietly joining in himself. Mokuba joins in with Jonouchi in wildly off-key attempts, but that corner of the room quickly devolves into laughter as they fumble switching between Hebrew, English, and Japanese depending on the song.

Kaiba stares at the scene, arms crossed over his chest, seeming disinterested, but in reality, he just doesn't understand this type of party. Not just that it's his first Hanukkah party, it's one of the few parties where people actually seem to be having fun, not just flexing their wealth on other rich people.

Once Anzu is satisfied with the number of songs, she gets everyone to settle down. "Yugi, are you ready to tell the story?"

Yugi nods, sitting by the window, candlelight flickering on his face. "Okay. Once upon a time--"

"You can't start it like that," Sugoroku protests, "you make it sound like a fairy tale."

Yugi wrinkles his nose. "A long time ago--"

"That's so generic…" Sugoroku laments.

"Can you let me tell the story?" Yugi groans. "A long time ago, the Greeks took over the land of Judea--"

"Is this a true story?" Mokuba raises his hand, only after he asks.

"Yeah!" Yugi says. "Um… well, this is more based on a true story because I don't remember a lot of historical details, but the basic plot points happened. So the Greeks tried to make people in the lands they took over be more Greek, which was bad for the Jews especially."

Atem raises his hand. "Which ones are the Greeks again?"

Bakura blinks at him. "The Mycenaeans," he says, after trying to remember how the historical timeline lines up.

Atem nods. "Okay. Continue."

"So there was a lot of conflict and the Greeks destroyed the Temple and there was a big war for a few years. It didn't look good for the Jews because we had a very small army and the Greeks were a big empire."

"Why didn't they just use their Ka?" Mokuba asks.

"Um, they couldn't do that, I guess," Yugi says. "I think no one could while Atem was sleeping."

Atem strokes his chin. "No, other civilizations could control Duel Monster spirits, like Atlantis."

"Well, the Greeks and Israelites weren't one of those," Yugi says.

"That one guy had a hammer, right?" Jonouchi says, trying to get them back on track.

"No, he was just nicknamed the hammer, but close enough. So Judah Maccabee lead the army and eventually, the Jews kicked the Greeks out and were able to reclaim their Temple. But there wasn't enough oil to keep the Menorah lit--"

"Why didn't they use candles?" Mokuba asks.

"Well, the Menorah is a special lamp that was lit continuously in the Temple and oil lamps work better for that, I guess?" Yugi scratches his head. "So they had to go get more oil, but it was a far trip, so it would be eight days before they got more oil. But miraculously, oil that was only enough for one night lasted eight days, until they got more oil."

"It sounds like they underestimated their oil to begin with," Kaiba says.

"Even so, it was a miracle because we overthrew oppressors and protected our people and our culture. And that's why we light eight candles and fry foods in oil."

"And play games?" Mokuba asks. "I was promised games."

"I did always wonder how the dreidel fit into all this," Atem muses. "Is it derived from the hammer somehow?"

Yugi glances over at Sugoroku, who shrugs. "Hell if I know how it got started, but it's a good time." He chuckles.

The Dreidel game is where things go wrong. Yugi had only convinced Kaiba to come by promising him a new game to learn and Kaiba, even spending most of the evening trying not to be actually rude, doesn't hide his disappointment when he's presented with a collection of tops.

"The game is… children's tops?" Kaiba says in disbelief, holding a clay dreidel in two fingers.

Sugoroku huffs at him. "They're called dreidels and I actually have a very impressive collection. I gather them from all over the world. That one was a gift from a friend in Morocco."

Kaiba sets it down.

Mokuba clambers onto Honda's shoulders to get a better look. "So is this like Beyblades?"

"No," Sugoroku says immediately.

"What's Beyblades?" Atem asks.

"They're tops with spikes and you spin them and they crash into each other and break into pieces and it's awesome," Mokuba says.

"Oh that sounds fun," Atem says. "We should play that, Grandpa."

"If you break any of my collection, I'm going to start breaking skulls," Sugoroku says, glaring pointedly at Kaiba.

"Yugi, explain the rules of the game already," Kaiba says, ignoring the glare he's receiving.

"Okay!" Yugi takes one of the dreidels and holds it up. "See, each has four sides. Nun, gimmel, hey, and shin. It means--"

Atem picks up one of the dreidels. "This has different letters on it."

"That one's from Israel; they use pe instead of shin there. As I was saying, it stands for 'a great miracle happened there', but in Israel they say here instead."

"Does that make it better for the game?" Kaiba asks intently.

"No, it just has one different letter." Yugi sets it aside to avoid confusion. "So the game goes like this. We each get a few candies to start and each round, we put one in. If it lands on nun, you don't get anything. If it lands on gimel, you get the whole pot. Hey means you get half of what's in the pot. Shin means you put one more piece into the pot. When you run out, you're out of the game."

"That's it?" Kaiba blinks. "It's all based on chance."

"Yeah, that's the great thing about it," Jonouchi laughs. "This one spins the best, I remember it from last year."

Kaiba frowns, then begins experimentally spinning dreidels to see which ones are better.

Yugi glances at Anzu.

"Let's all use the same one, just to make sure it's all fair," Anzu says.

"Okay, we're using this one," Jonouchi insists.

"It's not any better than the other ones…" Yugi rubs his temple, but puts the rest of them away.

"No, that one's the best spinner," Sugoroku chimes in.

Atem takes the dreidel from Jonouchi silently and gives it a spin. It rotates around the table for almost a minute before landing on gimel and Atem smirks. "I think I'll like this game."

"You better not be cheating with the Puzzle…" Kaiba glares.

"At this point, the Puzzle is just a flashy accessory, Kaiba," Atem purrs. "You know that."

"Let's play!" Mokuba bangs a fist on the table. "I'm gonna win."

"Alright, alright," Yugi holds up his hands, then starts passing out the candies. "Mokuba, you're the youngest; you can go first."

Mokuba takes the dreidel. "Two questions first. One: the win condition is getting all the candy, right?"

Yugi nods.

"Two: can I bet more than one piece per round?"

"Erm… I guess so, but I don't know why you would…" Yugi rubs the back of his neck, trying to figure out what Mokuba is planning.

"Okay!" Mokuba shoves all his candies into the pot and hands the dreidel off to Kaiba. "Don't let Jonouchi get ahead of you, big brother." With that, he retreats from the table and hops up on the counter by Sugoroku to spectate.

Kaiba eyes Mokuba curiously, then spins the dreidel, landing on nun.

The game goes like that, with a fairly normal spread of results from the dreidel, except Jonouchi lands mostly on gimel and hey, Atem only lands on gimel, and Kaiba keeps landing on nun and shin. After a few rounds, Kaiba is getting low on candies and his hits the table with his fist. "How do you keep doing that, Atem?"

Atem shrugs. "I'm very good at topping."

There's a fair bit of snickering at the table.

"Put the Puzzle away," Kaiba demands.

Atem chuckles and hands it over to Kaiba. "There, you see now, if you keep losing and I keep winning, you know the Puzzle has nothing to do with it."

"Don't be such a sore loser, Kaiba," Jonouchi chides. "Mokuba's out and he's never been happier."

Kaiba bristles.

"I'm still gonna win, don't get it twisted," Mokuba laughs.

"Sure, sure, I'll humor you," Jonouchi chuckles. "My turn, right?" He gets another gimel. "You know, Kaiba, I think you're just not in the spirit of the game, that's why you're losing."

"I'm not in the spirit because it's pure luck," Kaiba bristles.

Atem gets another gimel. "It's definitely a skill. Jonouchi knows how to top better than you."

Yugi elbows Atem for putting fuel on the fire.

"What? It's true," Atem protests. "Spinning tops is a skill."

Kaiba's stack of candies runs out the next round and he snarls in frustration.

Jonouchi chuckles. "Imagine that, both the Kaiba brothers out before anyone else. I knew there was a reason I liked this game."

"Yeah, because you're a pathetic little jackass who relies on luck and chance to get by," Kaiba stands, pointing a finger in Jonouchi's face.

"At least I know how to have fun, unlike you!" Jonouchi stands up as well. "Having a stick up your ass doesn't make you a better duelist, y'know!"

Anzu grabs Honda and stands him between the table and the windowsill with the candles on it. Miho and Ryuji follow suit get up to back away from the fight that's very obviously about to break out.

"Settle down, you two…" Yugi says. "It's just a game and we'll share candy at the end regardless of who wins. It's okay, Kaiba."

"It's not about candy, Yugi," Kaiba growls, keeping his eyes on Jonouchi.

"Yeah, it's about this guy thinking he's better than me and learning that he can't win every game by being filthy rich!" Jonouchi sneers. "If he didn't have so much money, he'd be worthless as a duelist."

"That's it--" Kaiba vaults over the table and tackles Jonouchi.

Atem pulls Bakura out of the way at the last second to make sure he doesn't get hit by a stray kick.

"Hey, stop--" Yugi protests. Kaiba and Jonouchi are already on the floor, rolling back and forth to try to pin each other down. "You're gonna knock over the candles!"

"I got that covered, Yugi, don't worry," Honda says, giving him a thumbs up.

"Oh." Yugi blinks, glancing over at him, guarding the candles for fire safety. "Um. Thanks." He turns back to Kaiba and Jonouchi. "Come on, guys, it's Hanukkah…"

"You said--" Kaiba grunts as he takes an elbow to the stomach. "--it's about a war."

Yugi puts his hands on his hips. "Grandpa, do something."

Sugoroku strokes his chin. "I mean, he's not wrong…" he muses. "Kick his ass, Jonouchi."

"Maybe they just need to get it out of their system," Ryuji suggests.

"Atem, help me. You grab Kaiba, I'll grab Jonouchi."

Atem nods, stepping forward.

Mokuba spots his chance. With most of the group focused on the fight or trying to break it up, he pulls a beanie out of his pocket, dashes forward, and scoops all of the candies into his hat before running back to the counter and standing up on top of it. He holds the stolen candies up triumphantly. "I win!"

Yugi and Atem manage to separate Jonouchi and Kaiba and Kaiba looks up at Mokuba. "What?"

Atem bursts into laughter once he puts together what just happened. "Well-played. He knew you two would end up fighting and took the candy while everyone was distracted."

Kaiba rubs the back of his neck, then gives Mokuba a thumbs up. "Good job, Mokuba." He straightens his coat out. "I hope you have extra, Yugi, because he is not going to share any of that."

"That's definitely cheating…" Jonouchi pouts, crossing his arms.

Mokuba looks over at Sugoroku and gives him big, pleading eyes.

Sugoroku sighs. "Nowhere in the rules does it say Mokuba can't do that, actually. It's a fair win. Now get off the counter."

Mokuba hops down and sits on a stool, triumphantly munching on his candy.

"It's actually fitting because the Hasmoneans couldn't win in a direct conflict with the Greeks, so they had to use more clever tactics," Sugoroku says. "See, it all ties together."

Yugi drags a hand down his face, but can't help but laugh. "You know what. Fine. We'll go with that."

If there were things that he expected to happen today, suddenly getting picked up bridal style by Atem right this very moment was one of the things that was perhaps lower on the list. Perhaps such a situation should’ve been higher on his list? Atem was full of surprises as a person, though Yuugi could normally read him and his actions well. 

Arms wrap around the others neck to help balance himself in the others arms. The last thing he wants is to be dropped thank you very much, though he trusts Atem wholeheartedly to not drop him. ❝ Oh! Seto felt warm seeing even a tiny smile from him. Least he managed something right. Giving his damp hair a comb through he waited patiently for whatever was going to be offered. Drinking on an empty stomach. He knew this was gonna be a bad idea but honestly he didn’t care at this point. It’s not like he was going anywhere and maybe this would help him calm down and sleep even.

“You call this functioning??” Motioning around them he looks alarmed but means well.

Sitting criss cross with a laugh he takes the cup. The pants hiking far beyond where they should go he inspected the item given “ah- spoiling me with a fancy cup.” Head shaking subtle he clicks with Yugi’s and tosses it back.

Supposed with how well it was mixed, having expected it to be much stronger.

This was far more dangerous because he felt like he could have more.

“I’m gonna go on a limb and assume asshole me is pretty rich? I better we could go by stuff and I just play it off as my card got stolen and to send the bill to the company.” He winks.

“Maybe I just need to ditch this first.” Stroking the brown bush around his face.

Yes, 2.5 seconds in and he is feeling the buzz start.

"I called this practically functioning," Yugi replied with a small snort of laughter. It was a bit strange to be drinking and laughing with Seto Kaiba. Even if this was a different version of him than the one he knew.

He glanced at the plastic, Dark Magician patterned cup he had given the other and said with a little grin, "Only the best for you, dude. This is a high class establishment, after all."

He knocked back his own drink in a single movement and set about mixing more for them. He mused with a shrug, "I don't know that you have to get rid of your beard for all that. I happen to have Seto Kaiba's credit card number memorized, if he hasn't changed it recently. Atem used to make it a point to bill shit to him whenever possible. But yeah, you are correct in assuming that he is rich. Ludicrously rich."

He shrugged and added, "If I went into a store with you, regardless of the beard, I don't know that many people would even question it. We can go out and bill a bunch of stuff to Kaiba tomorrow. Probably a great way to break the ice after not talking to him in as long as I have."

Atem couldn't help but, get lost in the pleasure as he rode the thief beneath him. Keeping a steady rhythm with the other as he rolled his hips against the other's cock that was buried deep within him and moans were flooding from the young Pharaoh. It was his words that got his attention though.

YuGiOh headcanons no one asked for because this isn't a Yugioh blog and it's 4am

Gonna use the English names cause they're the ones I know. Also these all apply to happening during the main story.

Atem and Téa went out and got Yugi's ears pierced without asking him. Atem loves them. Yugi does not.

Atem and Yugi have habits that absolutely bug the shit out of each other. Atem constantly forgets simple self care things like changing outfits and taking showers. Yugi has the tendency to leave his cards everywhere and is constantly dropping things.

Tristan is frankly oblivious, all of the time. He will show up to fancy events with his shirt inside out. He shows up to school without pencils or even his books half the time. He is always the last one to notice Atem has switched in. It bothers him.

Mokuba generally really enjoys Yugi's company, and loves talking over duel monsters with him. Seto hates having Yugi around so much, as he still holds onto grudges, but deals with it because it makes Mokuba so happy.

Atem will occasionally just pick up old habits from his pharaoh days by pure accident. This ranges anywhere from cursing in the wrong language to expecting to be respected by random strangers on a level of authority that he doesn't have. Yugi has at least once accidentally turned in an assignment half written in egyptian runes.

Yugi generally hates the king of games title because he constantly gets asked if he's the best of some random game. "Are you good at pacman?" No, he's good at duel monsters. And Mario Kart Wii.

Joey plays video games, and is better at most than Yugi. Tristan is usually his true challenge, aside from Téa if she knows the game well.

Kaiba has always been weirdly drawn to the millennium rod since he got near it. He wants to hold it. He has never been allowed to, and therefore pushes the urge off as silly.

Whoops time for plot and I’m not at my tablet so here’s some headcannons for the AU instead

Yugi and Atem did not endorse the nickname Prince of Games for Judai, they believed it put too much expectation on their son. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to quell when he’s Yugi Muto’s kid.

Pegasus only made one Yubel card, and he made it on a whim(not knowing the significance) to give to Judai. He put it in Yugi and Atem’s hands for the decision of when Judai would recieve the card.

Yubel is still the same spirit from Judai’s past life, and survived where he didn’t, which drove them to protect him fiercely to the point of obsession leading up to his sending them into space.

After they joined souls, Yubel’s madness was quelled and they finally understood how toxic and abusive they’d been, and began the process of becoming a better person.(gonna eventually make this one a comic series to give Yubel a more in-depth character development and give them and Judai development on their relationship)

Judai hates letting others see him showing ‘weakness’ as he calls it, believing he shouldn’t put his pain on the shoulders of others.

Of course, he can’t keep it in all the time, so every now and again he holes up in his room and just lays in the dark alone. That is, until his friends find out what’s going on and do what they can to help him.(another future comic project, so details are gonna be kept hush for now)

Judai still believes that he is entirely at fault for his friends being sacrificed by Bronn, and has even twisted his memory to believe that he willingly attacked knowing what would happen.

Johan is uncomfortable around Yubel for a while after returning from the dark world, and eventually sits down and talks with them about what happened.

Judai developed a crush on Johan over the course of their time together. He tries to hide it but goddammit he is just a clumsy mess around Johan unless they have to be serious about a situation.

Johan is either completely oblivious and becomes the concerned friend asking if he’s okay, or is absolutely aware of it and patiently waiting for Judai to be ready to confess.

Judai’s friends are painfully aware of it, and either try to encourage him outright, or just be subtly like “he’s a pretty cool guy, huh? *Hint hint nudge nudge*”(i have scenarios for both of these options and I cannot wait to draw them)

Judai did in fact enroll under the surname Yuki instead of Muto, partially because he didn’t want the pressure and special treatment, partially because even though his memory of Yubel is repressed he remembers good and well the rumors and bullying about him being cursed when he was little.

When Sho Hayato and Asuka find out he braces himself for them to mention the rumors, but they never get said. Turns out the three of them have heard, but respect and trust Judai and as such do not bring it up.

Edo knows too but doesn’t say anything to anyone other than Judai’s friends cause while he didn’t like or respect Judai at first he’s not gonna be a bully and cause those rumors to start going around again.

When Cobra shows up and calls for an exhibition match between Johan and Judai, he just disregards the poor kid’s wishes and outs him fully as a Muto, saying that “he should feel proud of his lineage, unless he has something to be ashamed of”

Well, now Judai’s gone nonverbal and he can hear students around him whispering about the rumors surrounding the Prince of Games and he just starts preparing himself to make an escape.

That is until Manjome pipes up all “who cares if he’s a Muto? He’s already shown his worth without needing to lean on a name” and his friends join in in defending him, and soon enough all his classmates are agreeing because they all look up to and respect Judai and that opinion’s not gonna change

Judai’s got the fuzzies and is getting all emotional cause he loves his friends, and gets his confidence back for the duel

Fast forward to them getting pulled into the other dimension, a few days into it some of the hungry students start calling back to the rumors, and even though he knows they’re just hungry and scared he still starts to feel some guilt creeping in

After Yubel is revealed and all but Johan returns to the real world, Judai’s guilt from his childhood comes back in full force, and combined with Sato and Cobra’s words he’s now just trying to put all of what Yubel’s done and is doing on his shoulders

Mistakes are made, his friends are lost, and Sho, the one person who’s always been there by his side, his little brother in spirit, snaps and says that all the rumors are true, and Judai is just. Broken.

After everything is resolved and Judai returns from the other dimension, Sho starts apologizing profusely and Judai just. Hugs him and forgives him because they all went through hell back there.

Probably Shed Your Skin? I just love snugi (snake Yugi) and I've wanted to do my own spin on a naga for a while, what with all my great love for snakes. The dynamic is also one of my favorites I wrote this year, they're just so achingly sweet together ;-;

One of my favorites for sure was this bit from TGTD

With a single beat of his wings, Atem scaled his mountain. He wrapped his long, snakelike body around the peak of the temple that he made his home. He dug his claws into the stone, knocked boulders free to tumble forth and crush the trees, and whipped his tail through the air. The clouds parted for the yellow-orange sky, a stark, burning contrast to the deep black scales that blotted it from the world. Everyone in the city could see him, and would bear witness.

A thunderous roar cracked the heavens. Clouds of terrified birds for miles around exploded from their trees. It was a message, a warning, a promise, and a reminder of what the world became when he was wronged. Echoes of death and destruction would repeat themselves tenfold if ever he was defied this way again. Atem reverberated his rage to every creature in his domain, let it be known that such a transgression would not go unpunished.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

That I was able to get the chapter 9 of AOA out before 2023.

Okay real answer: still about AOA though, I'm surprised that it turned out so well tbh??? I was expecting it to be at least a little cringe, but I've received nothing but positive feedback and I'm very happy about it <33

I don’t consider myself as someone very tidy and organized, but I just like making lists of the things I love, somehow. Hence this post. I haven’t been in the fandom for long but I thought I’d share some of my favorites primarily from two sites: pixiv and postype. (I actually bookmarked a lot and picking them isn’t an easy task, so I will update this step by step. If you see only a link of an artist, that’s the reason, but I can guarantee you will love their works! Feel free to recommend me yours through reblogs or DM as well!)

Japanese

Artist: CYHGM

She is a Chinese and is more active on Weibo (she posted tons of puzzleship there, but my Mandarin is beyond rusty so I could only cry in despair lmao), but she has two fancomics that I absolutely adore of. Those two mentioned fancomics are:

The Past and The Future. You can check my translation for this one here. It tells about Atem who gets transported to 3000 years later before his coronation, and that’s where he met post-canon!Yugi. Just... everything about this comic is so wonderful. I teared up at the last page, not gonna lie ;_;

The Pharaoh and The Fairy: An Ancient Egypt-slash-fantasy AU featuring the S0/TOEI casts. The fairy Yugi was saved by Atem, and it’s an obligatory for fairies to grant their savior’s wishes. However, Atem doesn’t exactly have something he wants of, and this confuses Yugi on how he should repay him back. Pure undiluted sugar, and fairy!Yugi is just so cute.

Artist: Fushitas

Arguably one of the most popular Puzzleship fanartists in the JP fandom (look at their number of followers on Twitter, man), but maybe it’s also due to the fact they were in AoT fandom too. They’re mostly active on Twitter, and if you also watch Zexal, they draw tons of Yuma-centric pairings too. They have released lots of books, and their prices on the reseller sites are... well, let’s just say, unbelievable. Just to show how famous they are. 

From everlasting to everlasting: Set after DSOD. A mysterious figure appears in front of Atem, claiming to be his queen. Everyone in the after life somehow acknowledges this person, which makes him even more confused because he’s the only one unaware of this. On the living realm, Yugi who is on the way to his home got hit by a truck (isekai much??) and when he woke up, he suddenly plays the role of Atem’s queen. I’ve always adored Fushitas’ drawing, and this is no exception. The story is pretty simple, but is still good! The ending of this comic is everything I’ve always wanted from the canon lol. 

The King’s Guest: Ancient Egypt AU. The councils are starting to get worried because Atem shows no interest in marrying someone, so Shimon opens up a “chance” sort of for civilians to become “someone for the Pharaoh to talk with”. The civilian Yugi takes this chance right off the bat, and stuff happens? This one is just so sweet and the misunderstanding later in the story kinda cracks me up. I really love the way they build the two’s chemistry in here.

They only draw two puzzleship fancomics, but both are so good and explores the themes I’ve loved from the pairing.

The Lotus’ Devil: Set post-canon with a flashback. It tells about Yugi’s regret in the past where he wanted to show Atem a small pool supposed to be full of lotus flower only to arrive seeing them not blooming. Fast forward to the post-canon, he found out that there’s actually a monster residing on that pool. I really, really loved the ending scene of this one.

Who’s The Detestable, Fortunate Guy Here: I think this is set sometime in the canon story, although the exact timing is unclear. It’s a short comic of Yugi asking Atem to pretend to be his date and go on a “dating practice”. A very pleasant hurt-and-comfort kind of story, and who doesn’t love a story of them dating anyways? :”D

She doesn’t draw much YGO, but she has some Arc-V and 5D’s fanarts too if you watch the series! 

Hourglass: Sets after the Memory World arc. Yugi keeps hearing a strange sound inside his mind, and he finds out there’s a huge hourglass standing there, guarded by the will of Millenium Puzzle. Apparently, the hourglass is linked to Atem’s remaining time in the living realm? Anyways, the ending of this comic might look like a cliffhanger, but I personally think it isn’t. I love the theme this comic picks to explore and the way it is presented.

Present: Same setting with Hourglass, but this one focuses more on Atem sorting out his feelings about the Ceremonial Duel and what he has learned from Yugi in general. It’s a very nice extra detail that the canon slightly lacks of, and I just love... bittersweet stuff in general haha.

Are you the type who wants puzzleship to be full of happiness and fluff and nothing else? Well, she has a number of comics to fill that need! I actually love all of her works, but if I have to pick, these two are my favorite:

...Don’t Ever Leave Me Again: A short story about Yugi having a nightmare of where he was stuck in the fire accident at Otogi’s store. Well... this isn’t a fluff sort of, but it’s... a happy ending still? /shot

[Untitled]: A dialogue-less comic, but this is the sort of post-canon what-if that I really, really like. Atem stroking Yugi’s face while sleeping is just... so soft man....

Artist: Komori Nea

Their art style was one of those that’s very noticeable and has a certain charm on it. They are pretty active on Twitter, and even draws puzzle comics once in a while that haven’t been uploaded to pixiv (which is why I recommend you to check their twitter gallery too haha)

The Soul Stays Awake: Post!DSOD. Atem comes back from afterlife in hoping that Yugi would be as happy as he is, but months after, Atem’s existence still hasn’t been registered on Yugi’s life just yet. Another post!DSOD take that I like which involves the fear of another farewell and uncertainty, but this is a good hurt-and-comfort. I swear, it’ll hurt you just... for a while. :”)

The Attack’s Aim: Set during the canon series. A short comic mostly portraying Yugi’s hidden strength but also the tenacity of duelist that is not only targeted toward the opponent, but also to Atem, without the person actually noticing it. The last page of this one is so... soft and gentle I had to put it into this list.

Artist: caf

Often draw with S0/TOEI style, characters and characterization in mind. Their coloring in illustrations is so soft, plus artists who specialize in S0/TOEI style can’t be found so easily. Their comic style is not a manga-like one and they write the dialogues with handwriting, but if you can read hiragana and write and understand how kanji works (so you can write it on translation machine), their comics are easy to understand!

magenta: S0/TOEI AU where Yugi and Atem are two separate person. A short comic of Yugi lying under the rain as Atem searches for his whereabouts. I really love the way they portray the rain and the atmosphere surrounding the scene. Or maybe I’m just biased with rains in general, ahahaha.

Yuugi and Mao’s Stay Home: Same AU as above. Our two boys has to face the same shit we do IRL in this comic, which is quarantine. Atem offers to cook something for Yugi since he can’t eat outside. You love seeing Yugi eating stuff? This is a perfect comic for y’all.

Gemini: As Atem comes back to the living world, Yugi faces the dilemma of having being separated by “his other self” physically and mentally. A short comic, but the lines the artist used are so... beautiful. Like, the way they describe Yugi’s loneliness?? Just hits the park so much. 

Until The Hourglass Runs Out: Set after the Memory World Arc. As their farewell day goes closer, Yugi decides to give Atem a full control of his body at school so he could spend his time with Jounouchi and the gang more. However, things don’t go as smooth as Yugi had expected. If you like that little teeny weeny pain before the Ceremonial Duel, this comic perfectly suits the taste. 

see you sometime: Post-canon. Mahaad offers Atem a chance to meet Yugi in the living realm one more time, but with several conditions. Firstly, he could only stay for a day at maximum. Secondly, Yugi won’t be able to remember who he spent his time with after Atem hangs out with him. Thirdly, Yugi will not be able to “recognize” this Atem; he will only be registered in Yugi’s mind as a new classmate. A bittersweet comic in whole, but seeing the two having fun like a normal teenager would just makes me grin.

After The Rain: A dialogue-less comic, so everyone would be able to read this right away. A short comic of the two, but still very cute and wholesome!

The Tropics of Horus: Post!DSOD, Atem has to chase Kisara who lingers around Kaiba’s soul and he needs Yugi’s help to bring Kisara back to afterlife, but he has his own ulterior motive. This manga is so dialogue-heavy and might be hard to dissect especially if you don’t understand JP grammar and context, but the time spent trying to understand the meaning behind every words will be worth it. That much I guarantee. Just... everything about this comic, and how Atem’s “ulterior motive” connects to our boys’ adventure in canon series are so well planned. Christmas Day: S0/TOEI puzzleship hint (dark puzzle???). There’s something in store for Yugi in Christmas, but this one might surprise Yugi a lot. It’s not that the prompt of “Atem gets separated from Yugi temporarily” is uncommon, but it is still a sweet one and makes you smile throughout the pages. 

Korean

All titles mentioned here are not free unless mentioned otherwise. Also I don’t understand Korean except being able to read Yugi and Atem’s name, so my story interpretation might be wrong. If you understand Korean, I’d really love for you input! ;_;

Yugi’s 2020 Birthday Anthology: Rain and After End

This is an anthology consisting of four titles, but they share the same (or similar) setting where Atem is reincarnated, but he doesn’t remember his past (or has not yet, depending on how the story portrays it). Some are age-gap (adult!Yugi and high school student!Atem), so you might want to consider that if it’s not your cup of tea.

To Like Someone is to...: Age-gap setting. Mostly tells about how Yugi deals with his feeling as the reincarnated Atem in front of him turns out to have a feeling on him. I like how the story’s conclusion is that Yugi will sort it out slowly while also teasing Atem how he’s “too early” to date Yugi w.

In A Circle: A story about how the two met through an online chess game. Iirc Yugi works in a game company and Atem is sort of a famous e-sports player in this setting. There’s a lot of dialogue in this one and the app sometimes can’t process them very well, but I liked what I can understand from it! not very convincing is it haha i’m sorry i shouldn’t have done this

Familiarity: Age-gap setting, where Yugi becomes Atem’s caretaker. The comic mostly focuses on how Atem notices how kind (or too kind) Yugi is sometimes, but there are times where he feels distant. The plot where Atem gets into a fight with the other kid in his school because the kid mocks Yugi, and how Yugi just... accepts it even when Atem doesn’t want to say his reason of punching the kid is just.... god... I love this kind of age-gap setting like this I guess ;_;

Touchdown: Age-gap setting, but Atem is older in here (university student). The two goes to Atem’s university festival and they think about their own feeling when they got separated. On their way to drop Atem off, he confesses to Yugi, but Yugi is still unsure on his overlapping feeling between the reincarnated Atem and the Atem he knows. Make sure you play Motohiro Hata’s Rain and Aimer’s After Rain during the car scene to make the “rain” mood works even better :”)

Others:

Try For Point: A continuation of Touchdown, where Atem (like, the one from the past) visits Yugi in his dream and helps Yugi in sorting out is his feeling toward his reincarnated self. Atem’s advice is so sweet and there’s one certain line from this comic that I remember very deeply - there’s a part where he says, “If you don’t pull out the card, you won’t know what card it is, right?” to help Yugi clearing out his hesitancy ;w; at this point, I curse myself for not being able to understand Korean

Thanksgiving with DM crew Part 1 💗💞💕

Yugi Muto:

He would be the type to not only bring something to the gathering, but help you in the kitchen. Just being able to help you makes him happy.

If you told him you didnt need help in the kitchen he would most likely seek out his friends and start up a game of sorts for everyone to join in.

More times then not this cute bean is starting off the festivities. When the food is done he is ine of those people to make sure everyone else got food before he even thinks of eating.

Thanksgiving is his favorite cause he gets to be around friends and family alike, but especially because he has you.

Yami/Atem:

The first year he was introduced to this holiday he was very confused, but you and Yugi taught him the meaning. After that every year he became excited for the holiday.

He is most likely talking with one of your family members or his friends until Yugi starts up the festivities. He then encourages everyone to join and have a great time.

When he catches some of the Domino thanksgiving parade he doesnt understand thengiant balloons but he likes the marching bands that play.

To some extent the holiday is confusing to him, but he likes it anyway especially when he gets eat your cooking.

Tea gardner:

From the moment she steps into the house she is helping you cook. Even if you try to shoo her out she will be here to help you till the food is done.

She will also put on some good music that the both you enjoy to make cooking a little more fun for the two of you.

When the food is done she will make sure everyone (including yugi) get as much food as their heart desires before she touches any of it.

She honestly just enjoys being with friends and family like this, and being able to have a good time cooking with you.

Joey Wheeler:

This was by far Joey's favorite holiday, a big feast for free??? Sign him up!! He honestly wont help cooking, but he will check in on you to see how your doing.

Him Yugi and Tristan are the life of the party. They will constantly be keeping people's spirits up with games and laughter.

He will be trying really hard not start fights with Seto. He knows how much this gathering means to you so he will try to keep it under wraps for your sake.

He loves this holiday so much because it's so much fun haning out with everyone with this much food.

Mai Valentine:

Spending this holiday with other people was something she wasnt use to. So when first arrived she was a little awkward but played it off like it wasnt.

She gradually eased into it and played games with others. She even got beat joey in few games which made her day slightly better.

She did come over and talk and help out for it a bit, but afterwards she settled down on the couch with her favorite drink to watch parade and have a good time.

She enjoyed the holiday with everyone, and was looking for the next time she gets to spend time with her new friends.

Tristan Taylor:

Must like joey he llloovveess this holiday. With a bunch of free food with his friends? What could go wrong? Nothing honestly everyone gets together for your sake.

Most of the time he will be participating in the games or just hanging around his friends have a good time.

However when the food is ready him and joey are practically having eating contests till Tea gets on to them to save some for everyone else.

He really love this holiday and spending it with the people he adores so much.

Serenity Wheeler:

Much like Tea she would be the one helping you with the cooking. Cooking is one of her favorite things to do so helping her favorite person cook is even better.

She loves listening to music with you tea while hearing her brother have the time of his life in the living room. It's the best thanksgiving she has had in awhile.

When the cooking is done she will most likely been seen haning with joey and or Mai just talking having a great time.

She now looks forward to the good times and normally that the holiday brings.

Duke Devlin:

Duke enjoyed holidays like this. It was very often that he gets to relax with his friends and loved ones. When first arrived he made sure to go see you. He knew how much work you were putting in so he wanted you to know he appreciated it.

After talking with for awhile he said his hellos to all your family members before going to enjoy games with Yugi and his friends.

When the food is ready he makes a plate for himself and you that way your not picking off the scraps.

Thanksgiving isnt his favorite holiday, but he loves spending time with everyone. Especially you.

Kaiba Brothers:

Mokuba practically had to beg Seto to come, and it took approximately a month for him convince Seto to come but boy was it worth it. Seeing everyone have fun and getting to join in was fun.

Seto spent his time there one of two ways. Either challenging Yugi and Atem to every game that was play, or he was with you near kitchen making small talk or just enjoying your company.

Mokuba was never had a lively thanksgiving like this one, so now every year after this he is gonna wanna either come back here or throw Thanksgiving at his house.

Seto didnt think much of the holiday, but it was nice seeing how happy this get together made mokuba. Maybe Yugi's dweeb friends weren't all that bad....sometimes.

Bakura Ryou:

He isnt one for cooking often, but he will try to help where he can. Thought most if time he is just in there to keep you company so that you dont get lonely.

Expect a lot of femalenfriiends and family ask you if he is single cause even on the holidays he cant escape his fan girls.

most of the time he is joining Yugi in the festivities just genuinely having a good time with the people. When the parade comes on he spends some time telling Atem who each character balloon is.

Times like this are rare for him because of yami bakura so he enjoys it to the full extent .

The sky's the limit with Atem and he'll do damn near anything with his S/O in his free time! But his favorite activity hands down with his S/O is dueling as one would expect. Nothing makes Atem happier than dueling with or beside his S/O!

Beauty (What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?):

Physically Atem's favorite feature about his S/O is their eyes. They never lie to him and he can see right down to his S/O's soul. Personality wise Atem loves his S/O's tenacity and toughness and admires it to the point of flat-out simping! He thinks it's gorgeous when his fabulous man or woman goes off on someone and doesn't take shit from anyone, not even him!

Comfort (How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?):

Atem's first extinct is to ask his S/O what's wrong but he's smart enough to know that it only makes things worse. Instead he'll immediately rush to his S/O's side and start holding them, not even speaking unless he deems it necessary. Actions speak louder than words after all. If Atem's S/O is having a panic attack, he immediately knows what to do since he has many friends who suffer from anxiety.

Dreams (How do they picture their future with their s/o?):

This is something that Atem won't think about unless you ask. He prefers to live in the present and is just trying to get through what's happening right at the moment. Not to say that Atem doesn't picture a future with you at all but he just doesn't see the utter importance of it.

Equal (Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?):

Atem likes to think that he's the dominant one in the relationship when in actuality, it's a pretty even split. But there are times when Atem will have to give or take more and vice versa which he has no issue with.

Fight (Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?):

Fights with Atem are definitely gonna happen whether you want them to or not. Atem has pride for days and he can be a total prick at times so he needs someone who doesn't hesitate to put him in his place. Atem's way of fighting is playing the long game. He will NOT back down and he WILL push your buttons to the max! Atem isn't as merciless as he once was so he is definitely willing to forgive his S/O unless the fight was about something severe. In that case, Atem is gonna need some time before he can even think about making up with his S/O.

Gratitude (How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?):

Atem may seem like a brat but he's eternally grateful for everything that his S/O does for him and is fully aware of said things. Atem hates being taken for granted and he wouldn't dare dream of doing the same to his S/O!

Honesty (Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?):

Atem is pretty reserved so yes he does have secrets. He especially has a lot of skeleton booty in the closet but that's probably the only thing that he'll share with his S/O.....if they ask. Atem's reserved nature comes with one that values privacy. He keeps his cards close to his chest and finds it quite fun to be mysterious and hard to figure out.

Inspiration (Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?):

Atem has definitely changed since getting with his S/O! One of the main ways is that he's learned to pick his battles and to sometimes accept the loss and move on. Atem's commitment and trust issues have also been overcome and he's become more grounded and less fickle as a result.

Jealousy (Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?):

As hypocritical as it may seem, yes Atem does get jealous and he can be childish when dealing with it. Being the former player that he was before getting with his S/O, he's no fool when it comes to how other people can be when it comes to relationships. Game recognize game! If you can't avoid the person that Atem is jealous of, then he'll make your relationship known using PDA that he normally wouldn't do. Under normal circumstances, Atem will make his jealousy known and if you call him out on his hypocrisy, prepare yourself for an argument! A jealous pharaoh is not a good pharaoh!

Kiss (Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?):

Of course Atem is a good kisser! He's had lots of practice over the past 5000+ years after all! His first kiss with his S/O was romantic and passionate and it happened in the rain which made for an excellent atmosphere!

Love Confession (How would they confess to their s/o?):

Atem would talk to you in private and he would just be honest and upfront about how he feels before asking you out on a date. Short, sweet, and to the point!

Marriage (Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?):

Atem acts like he doesn't wanna get married but he does. Deep down inside, he truly does. He just denies it because of past heartbreak. Once Atem knows for certain that he wants to marry you (which will definitely take a few years), he'll propose to you in front of thousands of people after he wins a big dueling tournament and of course the crowd (and the paparazzi) will go wild! Your marriage with Atem will be one hell of an adventure and it'll have many ups and downs but it'll all be worth it in the end because Atem will treat you like the King/Queen you are!

Nicknames (What do they call their s/o?):

Atem's most common nickname for his S/O is "My King/Queen". Atem will also shorten your name if he can to make things more personal between you two. Other nicknames Atem likes to use will be Honey, Darling, and Sweetheart.

On Cloud Nine (What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?):

Atem's behavior when he's in love starts to change pretty quickly so it's obvious to people who know him. He changes his phone and computer wallpaper to a picture of you, he has your number in his phone as " My King/Queen", and he's 100% loyal to you! No flirting with other people and he rejects any and all offers for dates/flings. Atem's love language is Acts Of Service so he expresses his feelings by doing things for his S/O and sacrificing his time to do said things. To him, actions speak louder than words and he wants to make his feelings for you as clear as possible.

PDA (Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?):

Atem is very upfront about the relationship but only in a subtle way. He doesn't like drawing unneccesary attention to himself and he doesn't wanna embarrass his S/O either. Atem will only share info about his S/O if they want him to. He prefers to be more verbal when it comes to PDA. His physical affection in public isn't much but it speaks volumes. The most he'll do is wrap his arms around you and give you lingering kisses on your cheek and neck. Hugs and kisses are only reserved for hellos and goodbyes.

Quirk (Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.):

Being 5,000+ years old gives Atem a lot of intelligence so if you wanna know things about various times in history, he's got your back! He also knows lots of random trivia and is very good at game shows like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire!

Romance (How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?):

Atem is definitely a romantic guy and he'll pull out all the stops to make his S/O happy! He's pretty cliche when it comes to romance. Candlelit dinners, roses, walks on the beach, the works! Atem tries to be creative but in the end, the tried and true methods work for him much better!

Support (Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?):

Move over Tea! Atem's the #1 cheerleader in this bitch! Whatever your goals are, he'll support you and make sure you achieve them no matter how long it takes! He believes in you to the fullest and he wants you to be the best version of yourself!

Thrill (Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?):

Atem lives for the thrill! Without it, your relationship with him is doomed. Atem gets bored easily so he's always looking for ways to spice things up between you two and he would appreciate it if you do the same as well. Variety is the spice of life and Atem wants to live it to the fullest with his S/O!

Understanding (How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?):

Atem tries to know his partner the best he can but there are times when he'll fall short and misunderstandings will be had. This is where communication comes in. As long as you explain yourself to Atem, he'll be quite empathetic and understanding, especially if he's been through the same thing himself.

Value (How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?):

Atem's relationship with his S/O definitely means a lot to him but that doesn't mean he's willing to give up everything he's ever known to be with you. Yes Atem will give up his player days and be 100% faithful to you but that's the biggest change you'll get. Atem's not giving up anything else that makes him happy. Your relationship is worth a lot to him but he's not an idiot and tries to balance things as much as possible so his priorities are kept straight.

Wild Card (A random Fluff Headcanon.):

Atem likes it when he and his S/O wear similar or even matching clothing. Especially if it's spiky and/or leather-based! He wants his S/O to always look good!

XOXO (Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?):

Atem loves affection especially in private! You'll definitely be getting many kisses and cuddles from him! Atem prefers physical over verbal affection but he'll deliver the latter just as well. He knows how to lay on the charm and make his S/O feel like the most important person in the world with the sweet words flowing out of his mouth!

Yearning (How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?):

If Atem has to be away from you for a long period of time, he'll definitely miss you but he's not gonna die without you. He'll keep in steady contact with you but he won't smother you either. Atem respects his S/O's space and doesn't want them to feel that way.

Zeal (Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?):

It may not seem like it but Atem is a true ride or die kind of guy! He'll do anything for the sake of your relationship and for your sake in general!
