DP x DC x Subnautica AU
Inspired my this post by @puppetmaster13u.
———
From Precursor research journals.
Entry #25
The “Justice Leviathans” project was an attempt to replicate the Emperor Leviathan’s intelligence. We (The Precursors) theorized that maybe the high intellect this magnificent creature possessed might’ve stimulated the production of Enzime 42 - the kharra cure. We picked specimens from several species of rare leviathans that inhabited Planet 4546B.
Entry #26
The Nocturne Leviathan subject, dubbed “Br-4-24”, proved to be the most intelligent, showing high results in logical, deductive and critical thinking.
Further studies shown that the subject has a tendency of taking in the orphaned young, even from completely different species. When subjects “D-5-21” of Moonglide species and “J-3-83” of Red Eclipse species were added to the “Br-4-24”’s paddock to see his reaction, the adult specimen had shown no aggression towards the young, even when “J-3-83” had snarled in self-defense. “Br-4-24” patiently waited until the young subjects felt comfortable enough in their paddock to snuggle next to the much larger creature.
Entry #27
Further displays of nurturing and even teaching (after the subjects “D-5-21” and “J-3-83” also went through the intellect enhancement procedure) from “Br-4-24” proved it save to add more young subjects to the paddock. Two more Nocturne Leviathans: “T-8-89” and “Cs-7-99”, Amethyst Leviathan “St-6-92” and Lightstreak Leviathan “Dk-3-14” acclimated to the new environment and were taken under “Br-4-24” care without issues.
Entry #28
Interestingly, the intellect enhancement transfer to the next generation, which was proven when “Br-4-24” (male, but further studies had shown that males of these species carry the inseminated eggs within themselves for safety) gave birth to subject “Dm-9-06”, who have shown similar level of capabilities as his progenitor.
Although the young subject proved to be dangerously aggressive and had to be removed from the paddock after repeated attacks on “T-8-89” which put his health at risk. However this caused significant distress to “Br-4-24” and almost led to the destruction of the paddock. It was decided to return “Dm-9-06” into the paddock, but into a separate enclosure with a window. That way it would calm “Br-4-24” and allow for monitored and controlled socialization of “Dm-4-24” back into the pack. The attempt was successful.
Entry #29
The enhanced subject “Cl-4-38” of the Sunbreak Leviathan species, while not exhibiting levels as high as “Br-4-24”, had nonetheless shown impressive results, as well as demonstrated unbound curiosity, unexpected trust towards the researchers (as well as care when he saved a group of interns when they accidentally fell into his paddock) and protectiveness towards the members of his pack.
When he was taken into the facility, “Cl-4-38” was caring for a teenager - “Kr-5-59”, and a newborn - “Jn-7-15”. Their enhancement had shown similar results.
Entry #30
Initial attempts at cloning subject “Cl-4-38” were unsuccessful. His DNA was too complex to decipher and perfectly replicate. It was decided to combine his genome with that of another species, which brought much better results. While subject “Bz-8-58”’s development went through complications which led to his disfigured appearance, his life was saved and he is now healthy. His socialization is still a work in progress, but we remain hopeful.
Entry #31
Another successful clone. Learning from our mistakes during subject “Bz-8-58”’s incident, we took better precautions and more strict monitoring of the process. Subject “Kn-6-93” was cultivated without complications during development. He turned out to be a feisty youngling and attempted to escape his incubation pod several times. We were hesitant to release him into “Cl-4-38”’s paddock, unsure how he will take in a young from outside his pack. Its thanks to successful socialization of “Bz-8-58” it was deemed safe. “Cl-4-38” didn’t accept the new addition initially, keeping “Kr-5-59”, and “Jn-7-15” away. But at least he didn’t display any aggression. After a week, fortunately, the older leviathan accepted the newcomer as his own.
Entry #32
The Flashpoint Leviathans are the trickiest to keep in captivity. Compared to other subjects, they require the most forms and amounts of enrichment. Some theorized it to be a side-effect of enhancement, some argued that it is a species trait. Regardless, the hyperactivity of the pack caused a lot of problems until their needs in stimuli were met.
While the oldest subject - “By-1-56” - has shown to be the calmest, capable of reigning in his children, he’s still very energetic. Always excited for new tests. Friendly and playful towards researchers as well (but not as much as his young).
Subjects “W-3-86” and “Bt-2-94” have made several escape attempts, most of which were very close calls. They also dragged passing by researchers into the water of their paddock for play. Luckily no one got hurt since they never had any malicious intent. They seem to be eager to socialize with different species. Between the two, “Bt-2-94” is the most hyperactive, while “W-3-86” is the most intelligent, capable of solving very complex puzzles.
Entry #33
Three young Flashpoint Leviathans were added to the paddock. Subjects “Iv-7-87”, “Js-1-92” and “Av-3-16” were immediately accepted into the pack and acclimated to the new environment without issue.
Entry #34
Subjects “Kg-1-16” and twins “Ot-8-22” and “Os-8-22” were added to the Sunbreak paddock.
Entry #35
Subject “Cl-4-38” made distressed calls to the researches in an attempt to gain their attention. It turned out that he heard a call from an injured Ironhide Leviathan from several miles away from the facility. A rescue team was sent and they found not only an injured adult, but also a teenager at his side. Subjects “Jh-2-11” and “Nt-7-12” were welcomed into the facility.
Entry #40
Unexpected side-effect of the “JL project” was discovered. Subjects whose intellect was enhanced has developed an ability to transform into smaller humanoid forms. Following research has shown that in these forms subjects are capable of replicating speech. Possibly even comprehending it.
This is an unprecedented case.
Entry #45
It was decided to connect all of the “JL project” paddocks together to further the socialization of subjects. The results are more than satisfactory. Several subjects of different species have bonded despite seeing each other for the first time. The youngest formed their own group. The interns called them “Young JL”.
Entry #60
Unfortunately, the “JL project” was deemed a failure. Despite all of the development and enhancement of intellect of the subjects, none of them have developed an immunity against the kharra disease, or an ability to produce a cure. It was decided to put all of the subjects into stasis until it will be decided what to do with them.
Last entry dated 500 years ago.
———
Report from stasis chamber dated 2 years ago.
“WARNING! Damage to the main generator. Stasis core disrupted due to insufficient energy. The containment cell has been breached. The subjects have escaped.”
——
Danny took in a deep breath as he closed the PDA. Okay… so the massive scary Leviathans that have been chasing him around don’t actually want to eat him. At least not all of them. He definitely recognizes from the images in those entries which ones exactly are friendly. It was… somewhat relieving to know that that Reaper Leviathan’s roar and how he crushed his first seamoth wasn’t actually an attempt to become friends.
He also recognizes those youngsters that has been pestering him around shallow waters. He decided to call them Tim, Kon and Bart, based on the names the Precursors gave them.
Also they can transform into humanoids?! That’s… Danny haven’t seen them do that yet.
But if they are intelligent as these entries say… What do they want from Danny? Why do they keep trying to capture and drag him into deep waters? If they don’t intend to eat him… what’s the reason for their behavior?
The research mentioned their attempts at replicating and even comprehending language. Does that mean that he can… maybe… communicate with them? It… it would actually be nice. It’s been… hard. Being alone on an entire planet with only a PDA to keep him company.
But could he actually trust them? It’s… very risky. Especially with his ghost powers still locked away. He wouldn’t even be able to fight back if things went sour! They’re still fricking Leviathans! Huge and powerful, capable of snapping him like a twig in their jaws! What if he does something that angers them? Or what if one day they deem his as uninteresting and feed him to their young?
Then Danny remembers how those young played with him. Now that he cooled his mind, he realizes that they were indeed just playing.
If he’s gonna do it, he needs to be careful. He’d have to prepare. He has some ideas already, now to get recourses.
——
After three days of being locked up in his base that he built (thank you Habitat Builder), figuring out the blueprint and tinkering a little with the fabricator, Danny finally reached some breakthrough. Now he was sitting on the platform, legs splashing in the water, as he fiddled with the brand new rebreather that, hopefully, will work in filtering oxygen from water into gas form so that he wouldn’t have to rely on the gas tanks. He’s yet to test it. And the sun was already setting.
He was admiring the sunset when he heard a splash of water next to him. He jumped when he saw… what he didn’t expect to see.
At first he thought it was a human survivor, hope blooming in his chest. But then he saw the black and red markings on his face, the unsettling white eyes, the pointy ears and then, finally, the familiar black tail with a red streak. It’s one of those Nocturne youngsters. The one he named Tim.
They can turn humanoid! But why now?
“H-hi?” Danny send a nervous wave to Tim.
And to his utter surprise, Tim returned the gesture!
This is so bizarre.
Danny turned his gaze back to the sunset, thoughts rushing in his head, heart beating like crazy from anxiety.
He heard more than saw Tim swimming closer until he was right in front of Danny, placing his hands - he had hands now! Black with fins and claws - on Danny’s knees. Danny shuddered at the sudden closeness. And Tim… seemed sheepish, apologetic? As he tentatively reached for Danny’s own hand.
“Look…” Danny started, gulping, suddenly feeling stupid for talking with a creature when there was no guarantee that it would understand his language. But he was so tired and so… lonely… “I’m scared, okay? I’m all alone on a planet where everything wants to eat me. And I’m not even sure if you and your buddies don’t want to eat me to. Or if what you’re doing right now isn’t an attempt to lower my guard so that you can snack on me when I least expect it. But just…” he tried to force himself not to cry but failed. It was too much. He was so tired and so touch-starved. “I’m sick of being alone.”
To his utter surprise and awe, Tim reached for his face with his hand and… wiped away the tears. When Danny looked up, he saw Tim smiling. So kindly and warmly and… he was so beautiful.
Is he really going to entrust his life to this… siren?
Yes he will. The alternative is too painful.
With his mind set, Danny puts on the rebreather, takes Tim’s offered hands and lets him drag him into the water.
———
Tim can feel the hatchling’s fear. Felt it in shivers beneath his synthetic skin, in bubbles escaping his artificial gills and how the water soured with his scent. Poor thing. He has been on his own for a whole month, hiding in his egg and then the nest he build, retreating every time anyone of their colony tried to approach him. He must’ve been still in shock from the loss of his mother and siblings. Maybe that’s why he didn’t answer any of their calls.
But now, it seems like he’s ready. And Tim cannot be happier. And all it took was taking a form similar to his. Maybe the hatchling saw him as one of his own (they do look similar to him when they transform, in some ways). No matter, he finally allowed himself to be taken to the nest, despite still being so obviously scared.
It’s ok. It’s all gonna be okay soon. He and his siblings and Bruce and all the other clans will keep the hatchling safe and cared for and loved.
Maybe one day he will even learn to breathe without relying on his artificial gills.

Fuck Unity (The game engine, not the concept)
Tumblr media
They want up to TWENTY CENTS per game install, once you reach a certain number of installs.
TWENTY CENTS
Just imagine, 100 people install your game and you suddenly owe Unity 20 fucking dollars. Chances are, you haven't even made that much in profits from 100 sales.
Tumblr media
It's time for unity to fucking die. How fucking dare they demand royalties from game devs for an engine THAT ISN'T EVEN FREE?
In case you don't know, here's a list of a few bigger games that use the Unity engine:
Hollow Knight
Rimworld
Subnautica
Pokemon Go
Cities: Skylines
Rust
Hearthstone
Pillars Of Eternity
Cuphead

Not to be a pretentious fuck or anything but I usually really hate talking about Subnautica with people despite it being one of my all time favourite games because a lot of the time it's just,,, oh okay the developers lovingly crafted an entire alien planet with incredibly beautiful flora and fauna that had a lot of thought put into the evolutionary niche every living creature fills and how every piece of this ecosystem interacts with each other. All done with the express goal of being a nonviolent game that encourages the player to study and appreciate the beauty in the world around them and convey the idea that humans aren't the center of the universe and we should lessen our impact on our environments as much as possible. And all you can talk about is how everything is weird and scary and how much you want to kill it and how you're mad that you can't terraform and destroy more stuff and think the 'combat' is terrible and wish you would get a better reward for finally killing those reapers!!!

DP x DC x Subnautica AU Part 2
Part 1 here. Inspired by this post by @puppetmaster13u.
TW: panic attack
———
Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea.
Tim was leading Danny to the edge of the crater. Straight to where the void started and the adult Ghost Leviathans resided. The “ecological dead zone” as the PDA called it. The name sure felt fitting. There was just this massive nothingness straight ahead and deep blackness right beneath it. Danny couldn’t help but glance around, fearful of other leviathans sneaking in on them. Although the Reapers aren’t exactly sneaky with their roars that can shake him to his very core even from a distance.
It seemed that Tim was also on the lookout for the other predators. And sensed Danny’s fear, because he started rubbing soothing circles into his back and… was he cooing at him? Keening? What’s the correct word for the sound? Anyways, it was like he was making sounds to calm him down and… Danny was grateful for it.
Maybe he wasn’t actually taking him to his death, since he showed so much care for him already.
They swam right to the edge and down down down, deeper and deeper, but not going too far from the rocky wall that lined the crater. A distant roar made Danny flinch and fearfully look into the void. Tim squeezed his shoulder gently, his soothing rubs never stopping. Danny glanced at him and was met with the same reassuring smile. He smiled back the best he could and nodded (for whatever reason).
They continued their venture down into the abyss, passing 2 hundred meters, 3 hundred, 4, 5, 6… Danny was getting nervous. Tim seemed to have sensed his rising anxiety and pressed him closer, making that soothing sound again.
There’s no going back at this point. He’s too deep and he left his glider at the base. If he were to get out of Tim’s hold and swim back, either Tim would just catch him again, because he was faster, or he’d become “all you can eat buffet” for Leviathans once he gets into the open.
This looks more and more like a bad idea.
Finally, after passing the 9 hundred mark, Danny saw what seemed to be their destination. A huge mouth of a cave lined by glowing corals. Big enough to fit an adult Leviathan. Tim swam faster once he also noticed the entrance, making Danny slightly dizzy. Upon closer look, he noticed alien pillars lining the walls of the tunnel. Was there another facility here? What were the Precursors studying there, he wondered.
But all of the thoughts of discovering another cache filled with alien tech came to a screeching halt when Tim and Danny came to the other end of the of the tunnel and entered… what was obviously a giant leviathan’s nest.
There were dozens of them there. Both small and big… really big! Huge! Some bigger than the Reaper even!
And they all stared at Danny when Tim made a calling sound. All of them… with their creepy glowing eyes.
This was a horrible idea!!!
With a frightened shout, Danny pushed Tim aside to escape his hold (he had no time to think about how Tim didn’t even resist the push) and booked it back through the tunnel.
He needed to get out! He needed to run until any of them decided to pursue him!
But the void ahead made him pause. Another distant roar put his adrenaline into overdrive. He can’t go there! He’ll be screwed!
He needed to hide! Somewhere, anywhere!
There! A tiny crack in the wall, big enough to fit him, but small enough to not let any of the leviathans in. Danny kicked his legs as hard as he could, too scared to look behind, gaze focused on the tiny shelter he found.
Finally he reached it. He hoped it turned into a long tunnel or a bigger cave. But no, it was just a hole in the wall, just big enough to fit at least two Dannys in here. But it was all he got and for now it was enough.
Yet another distant roar of a Ghost Leviathan forced Danny to press himself to the wall with a startled gasp. They… they wouldn’t get in here, right? Their heads are too big and he didn’t see them have any long and twisty tongues. He didn’t just turn himself into an easy to reach snack, right? Right?!
Oh God, he’s totally trapped here! There’s no way he’s gonna make it out of this hole alive! Not while stuck between the void and the massive nest brimming with Leviathans of all shapes and sizes. He’s gonna die here. He’s gonna get eaten alive and he will never make it out of this planet and see his family and friends ever again.
Danny let out a defeated sob. It was getting hard to breathe. Oh no, he was not getting enough air! Is the filtration broken?! He should’ve taken that extra oxygen tank as a precaution! Now his chest hurts, it’s hard to breathe, he can feel his heart in his throat and he’s gonna die here and…
A sound gets his attention. A call he’s been hearing throughout the month. He looks at the entrance to his hidey-hole. It’s Tim, he’s at the mouth of this tiny cave, looking at Danny with… is that concern? Was he worried?
No! This has to be a trick! Tim led Danny here to feed him to his pack mates! Now he’s gonna drag him back kicking and screaming and there would be nothing Danny would do because his ghost powers are locked down and there’s not enough air and…
He feels a hand touch his shoulder. And then another. And then he’s moved suddenly and he wants to fight back but his body is frozen still. His head is pressed to something and… he hears a heartbeat. Steady, firm. Was… was Tim pressing Danny’s head to his chest? To calm him down? He then felt the rise and fall of said chest. Slow, measured breaths (which made Danny briefly wonder how does it work underwater?) Danny found himself following the inhales and exhales, listening intently to the beautiful heartbeat and… purring? It was soothing. Grounding.
Why does Tim even care so much?!
Something broke in Danny and he couldn’t hold back the tears and cries any longer. Scared, tired and so painfully lonely, he clutched at Tim with both arms, wrapping them around his torso, as he wept.
“I don’t wanna die!… I don’t wanna die!”
He didn’t know if Tim understood his desperate plea. Neither did he care if he did.
But maybe he did, because the soothing rubs were back, along with gentle scritches to his head. And the purring didn’t stop. Something wrapped around his legs and a single glance showed that it was Tim’s tail.
Danny didn’t know how long he cried in Tim’s arms. An hour? He suddenly felt so exhausted and sleepy. And… surprisingly… safe. He stifled a yawn and tightened his hold on the lithe body that held him close. Tim’s chest was so nice to lie on and… his hands scritched his hair so nicely. He… almost forgot how it feels like to be touched so… lovingly.
Hopefully, if they do decide to eat him, Danny would be in too deep of a sleep to feel anything.
——
Tim felt like an idiot.
He knew he shouldn’t have rushed! He should’ve made a plan with Bruce and patiently waited until the hatchling grew more comfortable and trusting in his presence! He knew he shouldn’t have pushed when he was still so scared and fidgety. But Tim was so eager to bring him to the nest! To introduce him to all his siblings and friends and all the adults that cared for them.
He smelled his fear and horror when he saw the others. It was pure survival instinct and fight for his life. It was so raw and strong that Tim couldn’t keep his hold on the hatchling as he swam away into the void. Luckily he didn’t swim too far - not with his deformed split tail - and hid in the hole next to the nest.
It didn’t feel right to just leave him there all alone, so Tim followed.
Something clicked in Tim’s mind when he saw the hatchling’s state. He saw one of the precursors experiencing something similar and the other precursor helped him through it. Tim remembered exactly what they did and how well it helped. Maybe it will work on the hatchling too?
It did. It took time and patience and some rubs on the back and gentle scritches on the head. But the hatchling’s breathing evened out and heartbeat slowed. And then he fell asleep in Tim’s arms.
Tim couldn’t believe his luck! After being scared to death, he still trusted Tim enough to become so vulnerable with him? He felt honored. He will not let that honor go to waste!
From this moment on - baby steps. If he wants the hatchling to be smoothly integrated into the colony, he needs to make him believe that he will be safe and that no one is going to eat him.
But for now - sleep.
