If you plan on (or are going to) mention me in any type of post without officially tagging me (for ex: the notes of a ao3 fic shouting me out for helping) I ask that you please put my full username, LadyWren7. A lot of people tend to exclude the 7 and just put Lady Wren, but there are a lot of Lady Wrens and it's important to include the 7 because then people won't be able to find me, others might take it as their own, or think of someone else.

Hi, I kind of have a question, Adam said that can't walk in the sun when doesn't drink blood, but what exactly happens? Do vampires just burn immediately, begin to be more sensitive to sunburn or is it another kind of thing?

so, in time and time again I really wanted blood to be something of a medicinal need for vampires. it's not a 1:1 metaphor of course, please don't try to think of it that way, but it's how I conceptualize it.

He needs blood to go in the sun, to heal, to "be something of a human again" and it also grants him the ability to time travel, shapeshift, compel others...

Without blood, he can't do these things. So, to be honest, without blood vampires would just... die. They can't exist without it. being in the sun uses blood, its dangerous. it wears you down. it makes you weaker. it can kill you!

I realize this ends up making my vampires feel weak, but... it's a metaphor for chronic illness. They have limited energy and if they do not take the time and the 'medications' they need to recover, they'll become weak or die. They have to manage their limited energy.

there's extreme privilege for vampires who have steady access to blood, like Adam does. His access to blood lets him time travel, transform, go in the sun constantly, etc. Vampires without as much access have to become nocturnal, they get stuck in one place, they have to be careful because even a small cut can cost precious resources...

A desperate vampire might end up hurting someone for what they need. a vampire with people who are willing to help them can get by, or even thrive. a vampire with none of these will die.

I know it's not the most satisfying answer, but it is my answer! My experiences being chronically ill are very much at play here.

#I dont want people to think too much about it as a metaphor for chronic illness #cause. OBVIOUSLY 'monster who kills people' is kind of loade #but as you can tell in my writing I'm sort of doing my own kinds of vampires #idk. I think within the confines of my story it's a metaphor I'm comfortable with people reading #but within the broad scope of vampires as a concept not so much #I mean even within the confines of my story I think that it has severe limitations as a metaphor #just. yknow it is the internal logic I'm using and the intent I have #asks #anon #also you dont have to start all your asks with 'hi i sort of have a question'#its okay to just ask me things #pretty sure these are all coming from the same person and I'm pretty sure I know who #not to freak you out just #its a tell haha #its ok to just ask me things I promise #I enjoy talking about my work #I'm happy to get the questions

#was looking at old photos and put these side by side. wow #in the first pic i was miserable malnourished and so depressed i didnt think id make it to 2016 #the second pic was a few months ago in too lazy to take w newer one today lol #im still depressed but not like i was. ive come so far and its so hard to see it from day to day sometimes #i never thought id live long enough to go on hrt. top surgery felt completely impossible #but i got to live #i got to transition #i wish i could go back and show that scared kid how far we've come #idk these pics just had me feeling really sappy #maybe one day ill make a more intentional transition timeline post #but these photos really show a lot #transgender love transgender peace transgender joy #it gets better i promise #sounds fake and shallow but it's so fucking true

Summary: Yu’s getting really sick and tired of landing himself in the infirmary. Warnings: none (probably) Pairings: none Word count: 461 A/N: Shorter one for the prompt "hospital stay." Almost didn’t post this with all the formatting but I haven’t done a prompt fill for the bingo iiiin… nearly three months now so I felt like I might as well. Maybe I'll write a longer follow-up for "bedside vigil" when imminent finals aren't steadily draining me of my will to do anything... Anyway. Enjoy a quadruple drabble full of what I can only describe as my evening word spill.

Not for the first time, Yu wakes up in the infirmary.

The lofty ceiling and cross-hatched windows are the same as always. Faintly, specks of dust float about, illuminated by the rays of sunlight filtering in from outside. They only hit part of the curtains surrounding his bed, the room otherwise comfortably dim in terms of lighting.

So I’m back here again, he thinks groggily as more and more of his senses come back to him.

The freshly-washed blanket draped over Yu, smelling just as generic as he remembers, rustles like paper as he tries to sit up. If the Herculean effort of just trying to get up wasn’t enough already, there’s a sharp stabbing sensation that sends pain rippling outwards from his right side.

He winces; that probably has something to do with how he ended up here.

…How did he end up here again?

Did I get in a fight? Or… maybe it’s my fault? Did I make some stupid mistake again?

Yu tries to recall, but—nothing of note pops up. He can’t seem to find anything in his memory, or maybe he’s just too tired to remember on his own.

As if sensing his dilemma, the System pops up to life with a display of his current status:

[ USER’s HP is critically low and currently recovering. ]

[ CURRENT DEBUFFS: Overblotted — effects include exhaustion, sickness, and decreased recovery rate. ]

[ You’ve gained fear and concern points from several students. ]

[ Several characters are worried about you. ]

…“Overblotted.” Overblot…ted?

He has to repeat it and run it through his mind again because, for a moment, it doesn’t seem real. It feels so detached from him.

One more time to make sure I’m not seeing things.

Yu narrows his eyes at the screen.

Overblot—?

—Of course, it’s that one word from the second notification which sends all the memories rushing back.

Memories of hearing the news about a chance to return to the world he simply couldn’t return to;

of impulsively running off and stealing the blot stones Crowley had worked so hard to collect and hide;

of confessing everything about how he ended up here, then feeling so dizzy until the blot started wrapping around him in a comforting cocoon—

Yu’s mouth feels dry with dread, a sinking feeling coordinated in his chest. All he can really do is utter “oh” aloud like an SSS-ranked idiot, thinking—so it really was my fault, then.

The observation is so simple and obvious, so ridiculous, that he just sort of sits there for a moment.

And then he bends over forward, knees drawn in underneath the too-familiar and too-clean blanket, burying his face in his hands. He’s not sure if the muffled, strangled sound that comes out of him is a laugh or a sob.

This might not be anything, but while writing about your fics, the way you have the characters' mannerisms down PERFECTLY got me thinking about mirroring...

There's a lot of it in 7 (Horii is a directorial genius etc etc), most of it more intentional than these probably are, but there's something so interesting about mirroring that takes the tone of a (relatively) fond memory, a familiar gesture, and inverts it in the way shown here.

OH I'M GLAD YOU'VE NOTICED THESE TOO I think I mentioned it months back (or I drafted a post 'bout it but didn't think it was anything noteworthy) but I always really did like how the Arakawa Family mimicked each other's mannerisms (also circling back to how Jo and Masato calling Ichiban 'Ichi' presumably after picking it up from Arakawa)!

Aoki actually does the same sitting gesture too! I went back to double check and skim through the rest of the game's cutscenes, and as far as I could tell unless I skipped a scene, it really is only these three that do this specific pose:

It's such a small detail but I love it immensely and it really does highlight their connections with each other and it drives me insane

making a whole post about this; azurilland is not a good source for finding pokemon characters' ages. what's listed there tends to be crackshot guesses with no canon backing. but since it's a wiki if you look up "how old is [pokemon character]" it will probably show up first. always remember to check the credibility of your sources before you cite them!

A few nights ago, I started wearing a sleep mask to bed, and I’ve honestly been shocked by how much it helps me sleep! I don’t fidget around as much, I get to sleep faster. For the longest time I’ve liked to cover my eyes while I sleep. I’ll literally pull the blanket over my head so that it covers my eyes, but leaves my nose and mouth uncovered. A sleep mask is much more convenient, especially since I don’t have to have the blanket over me in the summer heat anymore, which is a nice bonus. Also, surprisingly comfortable, which was something I was worried about since I can be pretty fussy about that sort of thing. Very glad I made the decision to get one!
