Nine years Túrin dwelt in the halls of Menegroth. His heart and thought turned ever to his own kin, and at times he had tidings of them for his own comfort. For Thingol sent messengers to Morwen as often as he might, and she sent back words for her son; thus Túrin heard that Morwen's plight was eased, and that his sister Niënor grew in beauty, a flower in the grey North. And Túrin grew in stature until he became tall among Men and surpassed that of the Elves of Doriath, and his strength and hardihood were renowned in the realm of Thingol. In those years he learned much lore, hearing eagerly the histories of ancient days and great deeds of old, and he became thoughtful, and sparing in speech. [He didn´t] win friendship easily, for he was not merry, and laughed seldom, and a shadow lay on his youth. Nonetheless he was held in love and esteem by those who knew him well, and he had honour as the fosterling of the King.

Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 1
Nellas vs Curufin's wife
Nellas:
An Elf of Doriath and friend of Túrin when he was a child.
I just think she's neat
Curufin's wife:
The wife of Curufin and mother of Celebrimbor, who remained behind in Aman during the Flight of the Noldor.
Curufin's wife deserves some votes for putting up with him. She was married to that guy and had to deal with all the murders and she didn't even get a name! Where is the justice! I actually think she should get to be an active participant in the murders.
just picture the woman who married curufin AND raised celebrimbor, and then tell me why you’re Not voting for her. go on, i’ll wait

Listen listen. You’ve probably heard of Finduilas/Nienor and maybe you’ve heard of Nellas/Nienor. I’m proud to introduce Finduilas/Nienor/Nellas.
Timelines don’t matter when you have two immortal elves. They [spins wheel] save Elurín and Eluréd and raise them before [spins wheel] Finduilas becomes Gil-galad.
This is coherent and definitely not me throwing darts at a board labeled ‘fun silm AUs’

Favourite Female Tolkien Character Poll - Round 1, Match 21
Nellas
An elf-maiden of Doriath who befriended Túrin during his fostering, and taught him about the nature and animals of Doriath.
But there was a maiden named Nellas, who lived in the woods; and at Melian’s bidding she would follow Túrin if he strayed in the forest, and often she met him there, as it were by chance. From Túrin Nellas learned much concerning the ways and wild things of Doriath, and she taught him to speak the Sindarin tongue after the manner of the ancient realm, older, and more courteous, and rich in beautiful words. Thus for a little while his mood was lightened, until he fell again under shadow, and that friendship passed like a morning of spring. For Nellas did not go to Menegroth, and was unwilling ever to walk under roofs of stone; so that as Túrin’s boyhood passed and he turned his thoughts to the deeds of men, he saw her less and less often, and at last called for her no more. But she watched over him still, though now she remained hidden.
She saw Saeros ambush and try to kill Túrin, and testified of that to Thingol during the judgement over Túrin’s killing of Saeros.
Nimloth
The wife of Dior Elúchil, and mother of Eluréd, Elúrin, and Elwing; killed in the Second Kinslaying along with her husband and sons. She was Celeborn’s niece.

drabble prompt Nellas + first moonrise
thank you!
🌕
Starlight was all Nellas had known; she did not call this time “night” as there had been no “day” to define its time in the cycle. The child of the forest lived beneath the glow of Elbereth, her small pockets of light illuminating the vast sky. The starlit dance had been harmonized, all equal in place, until one star unlike any other had risen in the sky, outshining the waltzes of all its neighbors. Nellas heard much clamor and murmuring beneath her tree, but she heard not their words, as the wonder of the great star drowned out all words.

'The elf-maiden that you named, though I forget how: I owe her well for her timely witness; yet I cannot recall her. Why did she watch my ways?' Then Beleg looked strangely at him. 'Why indeed?' he said. 'Túrin, have you lived always with your heart and half your mind far away? As a boy you used to walk with Nellas in the woods.' 'That must have been long ago,' said Túrin. 'Or so my childhood now seems, and a mist is over it. Why would I walk with an elf-maiden?' 'To learn what she could teach, maybe,' said Beleg, 'if no more than a few elven-words of the names of woodland flowers. Their names at least you have not forgotten. Alas! child of Men, there are other griefs in Middle-earth than yours, and wounds made by no weapon. Indeed I begin to think that Elves and Men should not meet or meddle.' Túrin said nothing, but looked long in Beleg's face, as if he would read in it the riddle of his words. Nellas of Doriath never saw him again, and his shadow passed from her.

I have very little interest in Túrin as a character, but I DO adore all the tragic women he interacted with and think they deserve sapphic happy ending fix-it AUs. So! You’ve heard of Finduilas/Nienor (excellent ship) and also of Morwen/Aerin (wonderful and heartbreaking ship) but may I please introduce you to my newest rarepair, Lalaith/Nellas?
“oh op Lalaith died when she was three—” shut up shut up shut up she’s alive to ME ok

old and forgotten + Doriath (any characters)
Thanks for the prompt! I hope you like sadness, Nonny.
.
Doriath was silent. Even the Esgalduin’s music was choked; only a trickle of water ran down the riverbed, where once it had been full and clear and glittering with starlight, its song an echo of Melian’s own voice. Where once niphredil covered the ground like soft fragrant snow, there was only barren dirt, bereft even of animal tracks. There were no more animals to leave them. The deer had fled and the rabbits had vanished, and the foxes too, and the birds had long ago flown away, never to return. The trees stood tall and bare, dead and still, their voices forever silenced. Only the earth was left to remember and to grieve those who had lived there, who had delved into the hill, who had sung in the trees and splashed in the river.
Menegroth did not lay in ruin. Morgoth’s armies had never crossed the Girdle, even after Melian had gone and left only tattered remnants of enchantment behind. But war raged in the north, and the Sea was creeping inexorably closer, and soon the once lush and lovely woods of Neldoreth and Region, and the thousand caves of Menegroth so lovingly delved so long ago would join Gondolin and Nargothrond, and the Falas, and all the rest of Beleriand deep beneath the waves. Then only Ulmo would be able to come to see what remained of the splendor of Thingol’s court.
Nellas stood before the gaping mouth of Menegroth. Its gates stood open; faint rusty stains on the stones told of the horrors that had taken place within. She did not enter—she liked such places even less than she had before. Now there was no kindly king to make tease a smile out of her in spite of her unease. There were no friends waiting to greet her. Only blood and ash and bones—and the darkness could keep those to itself.
The wind blew in from the west, carrying with it both the salty scent of the sea, and the reek of foul burnings. Nellas shuddered, and pulled her cloak more tightly about her. She crouched and left a small wreath of beechen leaves before the doors. “Fare well!” she called, to the stones and the soil, soon to be lost forever. “Fare well, dearest home of my heart!”
She turned then and departed, and did not look back.
