3,000 words for nano today! Bringing my book to a current total of 26,830 words.
The first two days were okay, days three and four were rough, but today I more than made up for it.
And I’m about to really get my hands dirty with the good stuff! I’m excited. Everything truly feels like it’s coming together for the first time in a long time.

Calm Wri Mo Day 22-23
I am not calm. While yesterday was nice, with its chill cleaning and my relationship with cleaning improving, I have overscoped a holiday gift and, furthermore, fellow YouTuber Space Dirt has asked me to do some voice acting but I totally fucked it up and now I have to do it all again. AND I already procrastinated on cleaning the basement -- which MUST be done, because I have Shadowrun in person in my basement this Sunday. AHHHHH! I didn't do more than my one sentence on my main work but my holiday gift has writing so I guess there's that. I just feel like I have made no progress today because nothing is done -- even though I know that's not true.
I hate it here.
(Also, why is my anxiety so tied to things being done? Ahhhh! Why can't I just be calm? It'll happen when it happens...😭😭😭)

Today's NaNo was good, I hit the goal, but I'm down ~1,000 words from yesterday
Which I might just split into 4 chunks of 250 to be added on to the next few days

NaNoWriMo 2023 Updates
I'm keeping a NaNo journal on TikTok (username @starsama13). Going to keep one here as well. Probably will just edit this post daily or something, idk.
Day 1: Wrote 2,000 words of the next Lucky Child Chapter. Had a SUUUPER busy day and didn't get to do as much as I'd like. Daily goal is close to 3,000.
Day 2: Currently writing but worked all day so haven't gotten much done yet.

Help me choose a Nano project?
I am by no means promising to heed the results to this, but I could use some opinions. I have a few ideas for what to work on for Nano but can't make a final decision which is... a problem, since these all need some more planning before I actually start writing them.
Descriptions and pros/cons below the cut.
Reblogs allowed and appreciated.
That Which Remains (post-apoc sci-fantasy)
In a post-apocalyptic world where the passage to the afterlife has been mysteriously cut off, the streets are oversaturated with the spirits of the dead. Trained Quellers take to the streets with their spirit-sensitive subordinates to channel and extinguish these spirits. Aereas is an unsanctioned Queller who is secretly spirit-sensitive. When they're called in to investigate the apparent suicide of a Queller-in-training, they get pulled into the mystery of why the spirits of the dead are lingering and what the Quellers are - or aren't - doing about it.
Pros:
Most developed plot
Main and secondary character decently developed
I know DEFINITIVELY how this ends, down to the scene
Cons:
Might be derivative -- formulated as a dream while I was binging stories about body-hopping and talking to the dead
Most of the other characters don't even have names
Unsure if this is a single book
Wither and Woe (high fantasy, political drama)
Five nations are on the cusp of deadly conflict. Tensions are rising, and plans are being pushed into motion under the veneer of civility. A young princess married off as a glorified hostage barters with the demon Wither for a child that will earn her nation's protection. She bears her husband an heir that is not his own amidst the political machinations of the inner court and begins to suspect that she is not the only one who Wither has helped.
Pros:
WITHER!!! I love Wither so much!!!
Most of these characters are well-planned
Wrote a bit for this a few months back
Cons:
Still unsure is this should be one POV or like six
Worldbuilding needs some work
Heavy subject material with little room for levity -- usually prefer to write these types at the same time as a lighter project
Casey Draper's Big (Gay) Alien Road Trip (contemp sci-fi)
Casey Draper is stuck in a rut since graduation, faced with the harsh realities that her dreams may never come true and her friends might not want to see her again. Life isn't like the books, and that sucks. So who can blame her when she lets herself be kidnapped away from her dead-end job by an angry alien who seems to think she's a missing alien prince? Casey's in for the adventure she always craved as they flee secret government agencies, stumble upon strange towns, and eventually have to stop the actual runaway prince from getting himself killed with his party boy attitude.
Pros:
Main cast is completely planned
Incredibly dissimilar to anything I've watched/read lately, so less likely to accidentally draw from things half-remembered
Almost episodic, can afford to be rambly and unfocused
Cons:
It's the type of contemp where the worldbuilding is basically just our world, which is difficult and often boring for me
Literally no existing outline AT ALL
Annoyed with my own job in a way I wasn't when this was first planned -- risks getting too pessimistic or just frustrating
Project Evergreen (post-apoc sci-fi)
Arden thinks his life is over when he leaves behind his family's stronghold to take his sister's place at the Eternal One's estate. But instead of being imprisoned for Fern's habitual impulsiveness, he is given a new name and instructed to work on a mysterious device alongside others in similar situations. And he would truly prefer it if the Eternal One would simply lurk. Instead, the mystical woman infamous for somehow surviving long past the Before Times visits him and speaks as though he is someone else.
Pros:
Relatively developed cast drawing from discarded projects
Basically a fucked up and nonromantic sci-fi Beauty and the Beast story, so most of the big story beats are planned for me
Strong thematic center - easier to make story decisions
Cons:
No clue what happens between the big story beats ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Worldbuilding is slapdash at best
I have no clue how this ends

cw: gun violence One of them got a hold of Garnet, taking two to drag him to the floor. They eagerly began pummeling him, kicking at his head and middle.
"Leave him alone!" Beau vaulted over servers, their attention drawn and weapons raised. A bullet grazed along the side of his head, arm blocking more from eating into his chest and neck. But he didn't slow down. He tackled the largest of the members, arm hooking about their throat, throwing his weight to topple them. His boots screamed against the cement floor, scrambling to get himself on top of them. He elbowed their weapon away, driving a fist across their face.
Garnet grabbed the ankle of another, yanking him off their feet with enough force the back of their head struck the ground.
"He has a Synthetic with him. Neutralize them both."  A warped command on their comms. Beau looked up, finding the gunner emerging from the stairs was different. Heavier. Something like the armor Ives wore in dangerous situations. They lifted their rifle, slinging the thick barrel attachment into a defensive position –aimed for Garnet.
Beau shoved himself up, scrambling for balance, hands catching him as he threw himself forwards.
"Beau!"
He gripped the side of a server rack, yanking the bolts from the floor with one solid tug, and threw it. There was the thunk of the grenade launcher and an explosion of shrapnel and smoke. Beau threaded himself through the hole of the missing rack, audios buzzing feedback as he rushed through the smoke. Drawing Garnet's gun from his plackart, he emerged from the smoke before it could clear. On the gunman's right. Glaring. Pistol pressed to the slot in their helmet beside their ear.
"Drop your weapon!" He ordered loudly, glaring at the man through his visor. He slowly looked over at Beau, a moment of shock before turning his uzi and holding down the trigger. Beau slid under the arc of shots. HUD mapping the direction of bullets as they left the barrel. He slid around for the stairs, keeping the line of fire away from Garnet, before springing at the gunman. Beau grabbed their vest, their armored arms driving down to knock his grip free. He ducked under a swipe of their gun, grabbing the barrel of the grenade launcher before driving a kick into their side.
They sailed to the foot of the stairs, gun dropped, collapsing into three other gunmen.
"Beau, get down—!"
The blast drowned Garnet out. Audios screeching harshly before going silent. Beau's HUD cut in and out, code rolling in an attempt to sync information to visuals. It was several minutes before his optics connected, filled with static. He saw the ground rushing up to meet him before his vision went out.

My newest fic and current nanowrimo project! I have the first two chapters up, but no idea how long it'll take me to get the rest to be honest (the curse of ADHD - I struggle to write in chronological order, but I am working on it!)
It's heavy on the OC focus, which will be true for the whole thing but especially in this first part. The canon characters will start showing up more heavily in the last couple chapters of this part and definitely in the rest of the series!

NaNoWriMo 2023 WIP Intro
The prophecy of the Lightsworn. The brothers who vowed to destroy them. The soldier who swore to protect them. And the girl who saved them all.
Title: The Lightless Path Genre: Fantasy (YA/NA?) Themes: Good vs Evil, found family, identity, moral ambiguity, life and death, loss and grief, violence and gore POV: Multi-POV, third person Status: Drafting Starting word count: 18,793 Goal word count: 50,000
Summary:
In the city of Arylide lies the Crystal Kingdom, the last remaining monument of the Old Ones – celestial beings known as Lightsworn who once held great power. After their sudden disappearance from the world, the citizens rebuilt their city anew. Now, the Crystal Kingdom is off-limits; sacred ground fenced off as a graveyard to honour the Saviours of the Light, hidden in the shadow of the mountain.
Over time, the Lightsworn begin to return. Imbued with ancient powers, a single chosen human will arise to take their rightful place as Saviour, to protect the people of Arylide from the Darkness beyond the walls. In turn, they are served by the Arylidian Guard: dutiful soldiers who will lay down their lives if it means preserving the future of the Lightsworn.
But when the Lightsworn begin to turn up dead, it quickly becomes clear that the Darkness has returned in ways no one anticipated.
In the sleepy town of Northmeadow, just outside the city gates, a young thief living on the streets suddenly plummets into a life she never dreamed of – an inescapable fate she does not want. As the next chosen one to take the Saviour’s mantle, Aira knows that the end-game could mean death.
But with the help of a vengeful Arylidian soldier, she might be the Kingdom’s only hope of putting a stop to the killings and, ultimately, carving a path to lead the Old Ones home again.
