@fictionadventurer You may ask 😂 It was a unique experience that’s for sure!
This is how it went for us:
1) Be my husband. Decide bees are the easiest animal for us to invest in at this point in our homestead journey. Research tirelessly. Become a walking encyclopedia about bees and their keeping and hive types. (This is a typical pattern for him; logic, read, be fun at parties.)
2) Build your chosen beehive type (in this case, top bar.)
3) Visit with your local beekeeeping society to network and ask questions.
4) Finish hive and set out in chosen location.
5) Wait. Keep an eye on the sellers of bees and your budget in case wild bees do not appear.
6) Excitedly receive at work via phone call the news that a swarm is “bearded” out on the limb of a tree on our creek. Feel very So Dear to My Heart.
7) Rush home and grab your hand saw!
Tumblr media
8) Start carefully sawing the limb off the tree.
9) Get your wife to finish sawing so you can hold the branch steady so it doesn’t crash to the ground.
10) Carefully carry the branch to the open hive and lay it down.
11) Stand back and watch the bees check it out!
12) When the branch is completely bee free, set it aside and put the lid on the hive. Listen to the soothing hum of happy bees hard at work inside.
Congratulations! You caught a swarm!
Tumblr media
(This idiot orange boy thought the hive was a comfy chair and the bees were toys to bat at. Perhaps if he gets stung he’ll figure it out.)

Eyy it's Titanoboa! Desmond anon and I found a new snake for Desmond
https://www.tumblr.com/warriorcatsofficialfacts/743110736781492224/hi-do-yall-mind-if-i-misuse-this-blog-entirely?source=share
Nonny, I saw the video and my first thought was this scene from Anaconda: Blood Orchid.
youtube
Just imagine redcoats trying to cross a similar body of water and they just start getting taken out one by one.
Hell, we can change it up a bit and have Desmond’s natural habitat being the bayou in New Orleans. Have Aveline be the one to first meet Desmond who is stalking the entirety of the bayou. He recognized her from Ratonhnhaké:ton’s memories so he doesn’t hurt her and even try to assist her whenever he can.
Aveline believes him to be a smart snake who just so happen to have a taste for the people that can be considered as her enemies.
She considered him an ally that she needs to be cautious about.
Desmond just likes to chill and help out whenever he sees Aveline.
The first time Ratonhnhaké:ton joins Aveline in the bayou though…
Desmond just curled around him and tried to snuggle him. Aveline was worried Desmond wanted to eat him for like… a second or so before she realized that, nah, Desmond is just, strangely, affectionate towards Ratonhnhaké:ton.

So is the community in agreement that the makeshift set is just Reth's terrible attempts at carpentry or has this headcannon spiraled out of control for me?

The Azawakh is an ancient sighthound dog breed from West Africa. It is raised throughout the Sahelian zone of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. This region includes the Azawagh Valley for which the breed is named.
The Azawakh is a multipurpose breed and is used mainly for hunting, as a livestock guardian and as a general guard dog. Unlike a lot of guardian breeds, the Azawakh is highly social and thrives in a pack with a complex social hierarchy. They are very protective of their owners and wary of strangers.

My (recently wealthy) older sister and her husband bought some land and got ducks and they have this big plan to grow crops and sell produce and she keeps talking about "homesteading" 🤢 and since she lives in an overwhelmingly white community it's unlikely any of her farm friends are gonna call it out, so I keep meaning to like. Look up some books to gift her for xmas that offer better terminology and an At Minimum Less Colonial perspective and introduction to the concept of a voluntary land tax/land acknowledgement before she gets into this stuff too deep and starts making money off it (bc I know she won't take it on my authority) and I keep forgetting to google resources. So this is both an accountability post for me to not forget to do this but also a request for recommendations if any of y'all have some tyyyyy

trash garden 2022: more trash, more garden. let's break it down via image description folks:
photo 1: my big, bushy zucchini plant is growing in a big pit on the ground next to the raised bed. behind it is a piece of a white bed headboard, the kind with bars on it that you used to see in the late 20th century more often. There are strings hooked up from the headboard to a couple sticks in the zucchini pot, offering it some support and containment.
photo 2: a little cucumber sprouting in a big black pot, gently tied against a stick with string for support. also in the pot is a liiiittle baby dill sprout. I thought I was maybe okay with just one cucumber plant this year, but I came to my senses and started this one in late May.
photo 3: an overhead view of a bigger cucumber sproutling! in fact, I would even just simply call this a plant. It has a long way to go, but it's growing strong. this will produce pickling cucumbers.
photo 4: a close-up of my sunflower plant in my raised bed. behind it you can see my pea plants crawling up a string web- more on that soon- and a little pot with catnip and some dill seedlings. the sunflower is about a foot tall now and has lots of growth to go before producing a flower. this is technically a mammoth breed, but last year's only produced a smaller flower since it's trapped in a container. I am happy with any size. I just love flowers.
photo 5: a jalapeno plant sitting in a grey pot beside the raised bed. this is the only edible plant that I bought- everything else was raised from seed. I couldn't find anyone who had some seeds to spare and I honestly just didn't think I needed more than one plant. In the background is a big straw basket lined with a layer of plastic and filled with soil. there is a rhubarb seedling in here that's doing okay. we will see about it.
photo 6: a baby tomato plant growing strong! it sits in a pot on the edge of the raised bed. someone stole all my tomato cages (AND MY PLANTS) last year, so this year I am using string and sticks to support the plant. there are three sticks in the pot, forming a little string triangle around it.
photo 7: a wide view of the second garden feature: an old bed storage drawer that is serving as a shelf. On top of the shelf are two BIG and healthy pea plants growing just everywhere. next to the peas are an old avocado plant that may or may not last the summer - it's sister plant did a lot better inside over the winter. the top shelf is also where I keep all the new seedlings that I am transitioning outside - they are sitting in yoghurt and cocoa powder containers, any household garbage I can repurpose.
photo 8: a side view of the full garden, taken from the shelf end. you can see all the plants described, plus a green bin in the background, lol
photo 9: a look at the little salad box i am growing underneath the shelf. it is in an old milk crate. i got a pack of spicy salad mix seeds from Weston pride last year.

GET LORE ASK BOZO! IM GONNA TRY AND SEND YOU THESE (probably more than) WEEKLY ACTUALLY FACTUALLY SO. TAKE THAT!
HOW DID CAPNCAPN AND HER GIRLFRIEND MEET, BECAUSE I KNOW EVERYONES FROM DIFFERENT PLACES? DOES THE FLYING SHIP TIE INTO HIRAETH AT ALL OR HAVE THEY NEVER INTERACTED? AND WHAT IS THE MAIN PREMISE OF BOTH?
Tumblr media
OKAY IM ANSWERING THESE OUT OF ORDER BC I FEEL IT'LL MAKE MORE SENSE THAT WAY?
SO hiraeth valley (the part of my ocs/lore ig that came first) centers around (captain) flinch and (co-captain) flintlock who are brothers (they started out in my head as twins but i feel thats a little silly now, so i've been labeling flinch as the older one lately). when they were younger (12 or so), flinch and flintlock found a rift between universes (that they later end up naming Hiraeth Valley) that lead them to a sort of in-between space between different realities. magic is INCREDIBLY hightened in this space and you can do pretty much whatever you want to as long as you know how to harness said magic. FROM this rift, the brothers are able to jump into whatever universe they want. they do this and travel around different realities fighting man-made robot creatures coming from an unidentified source. theres (obviously) a lot more that happens, but thats kind of the overarching premise of it.
HOMESTEAD is about an inter-dimensional crew of "pirates" (who really are more like an inter-dimensional crew of helpful mercs?) aboard a flying ship called, you guessed it, homestead. Homestead (the ship) is powered by a small piece of hiraeth. The crew on homestead track the magic levels and SOS signals from different universes, and travel between them all using their hireath ship engine to help anyone in need.
the captain on homestead (Kate) met her girlfriend (Emily) through Flinch and Flintlock during the events of hiraeth valley (the story? series? pretend show? idk man). After a certain cataclysmic event kills/separates (hard to explain without telling literally the entirety of hiraeth's story and making this post long as hell) Flintlock from Flinch, Flinch ends up teaming up w Emily for a short while as he continues to fight the makeshift robots plaguing different realities. Kate ends up living in one of said realities, and teams up w Flinch and Emily to help take down the robot in her world. Emily and Flinch leave Kate behind, but her and Emily formed a strong connection before this happened. They don't end up staying in contact until later, when they meet again after Kate inherits Homestead and (unintentionally) travels to Emily's world. They end up staying in contact this time, and Emily pops onto homestead from time to time to hang out w Kate and co and help them w any particularly difficult battles. Way after the events of homestead i imagine them getting a nice little cottage together (possibly in hiraeth) and living out the rest of their lives together :]

Okay I guess I’m back… I will admit I was one of the many that left tumblr for Twitter/tiktok only to find out it’s mids…so! Looking for a whole new dash, with cute moots, and an enjoyable online experience. Hopefully this gets some engagement bc my account has always been half dead…
I’m a 24 y/o non-binary something something who loves women and coffee lore and classics in history. Pagan following the Greek pantheon with a splash of Norse because they’re just gr8 but also they’ve been with me for a while. I follow Hekate as close as I can right now, it feels like hiding behind my mom while she helps me with life… I love conspiracy theories, especially once they get wild. I do stand by raising frequencies and energy work only because these things have been a proven process in my life.
I’m working towards that off grid, homestead kinda lifestyle in a skoolie… what else…? I have interest in anything I can talk about past a surface level. Hollywood drama, yesssss (it’s hilarious once you realize the insignificance), state of the world, staying on Twitter to harass corporations as much as I can… Tampax is #1 on my list rn, anime, fanfics/role playing, especially LGBT+!!! Oh, and food. All of it. I’m hungry. There’s probably more but if any of this sounds like you come join me!!

The Soddy
A CC Free Prairie Homestead
Lot size: 40x30 Price: §37,341 Lot type: Residential Location: Biscuit's Bastion, Chestnut Ridge
Homesteading and the settlement of the American west has always been a particular interest of mine and recently I've become very interested in sod houses! I toyed with the idea of recreating one in Sims but never had a good world or assets to work with. When I fell into my little building bender a few weeks ago I realized Chestnut Ridge was perfect for it and promptly hyperfixated.
This home is ideal for a couple or small family just trying to make their way in the prairie of Chestnut Ridge. The house can fit up to three sims and a baby or toddler, perhaps a bit snug for our modern standards but perfectly alright for the nineteenth century. Also comes complete with fertile fields, an empty chicken coop, a slightly decrepit horse barn, and a well stocked root cellar.
More info and download under the cut:
This house is heavily inspired by Prairie Homestead in South Dakota. When I started kicking around the idea of this build I started googling for reference photos and discovered this very cool historic site. I tried to match this build to its real life counterpart more than I usually do, as the interior that they have set up for that house was just so fun and unique feeling. The exterior is inspired by it, but sim lot constraints required more creative license. I highly recommend you look at some photos, it really is such an interesting place.
Sod houses, which were constructed by cutting hunks of the top layer of the grasslands (which were held together by the strong roots of the native grasses) were common throughout the latter part of the nineteenth century and began to peter out in the early part of the twentieth century. They weren't the most luxurious accommodations, but did have the virtue of being warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Unfortunately as the walls were made from the earth, bugs could be an issue and I've given this lot the creepy crawlies bug challenge for ~realism~. It's also off-the-grid, and has a functional root cellar (meaning I put the fridge down there, have fun in thunderstorms).
This lot is fully playtested (might have been the most I've played in a while actually, I wanted to make sure the crib worked). Please please enjoy this build. I know I always say it but this one is actually my favorite, and making this work with the constraints of Sims 4 terrain tools was quite the undertaking and I'm so pleased with it.
If you use it please tag me in any photos, I love seeing what y'all get up to with my builds!!
