🛏️--Mary Floyd (Tallmadge) [Historical wife for the win]
Send “🛏️” and a name, and my muse will say if they’d sleep with that person and why or why not.

"Although my survival instincts say yes, given how suggesting otherwise might lead to sleeping outdoors, it just so happens that I actually mean it -- yes. Of course I do."

anise:  when it comes to self-care, what does your muse do to take care of themselves? do they take care to spend time on it, or do they feel they don’t deserve it?
Lemme tell you bout Ben Tallmadge, Self-Care, and what we can *emotionally, clenches fist*
Learn
*sheds a single tear*
(pls take the following with a massive grain of salt)
First of all try not to get shot by people damn this is so important.
Don’t roll over for anybody unless they’re coming at you with a bayonet and you’re trying to get in better position to stab them (don’t stab people pls I did not just tell you to stab people)
If you find yourself alone and outnumbered in what looks like an impossible situation, don’t give up! Come up fighting, stab those odds right in the throat (I did not just tell you to stab ppl) do what you gotta do and just! keep! going! Even if it’s just you in this forest of uncertainty and you just got shot (it’s okay if you broke the first rule of self-care! Nobody’s perfect :) (don’t get shot pls) and your problems are runnin’ you down, you got this!      3B. running from your problems is okay in certain situations! Especially when they are literally shooting at you oml
Don’t let anybody shoot down your ideas. You deserve to not get shot and so do your beautiful Thoughts.
It is always acceptable to go back for your horse. Even in a dense fog. Even across a mile-wide river. Even when you’ve just got like 12 guys and a rowboat and there are 23,000 enemies saluting you merrily from their musketry and field pieces. You love that horse. Live ur dream.
Sometimes Self-Care means taking care of the people you love!
“Superior Officer” is such a relative term :) if they give you orders you don’t understand or even disagree with :D Just do your thing anyway, especially if you’re Right! (dear heavens the mun is Not Responsible for this stop looking at me)
The little things really add up! Crossing an icy river on a frigid winter’s day? Wrapping up in a threadbare blanket is just the thing to do! Worth it! ^_^
The pinnacle of self-care is gradually losing ur entire sense of romanticism as you become more and more jaded with the increasing awareness of the gray haze of warfare. when you realize you’re running entirely on burnt coffee and weary desperation, you know you’re doing it right! :3
(Bonus: Modern!Ben takes care of himself by occasionally sleeping somewhere other than his desk (like…the couch! holy sh he slept in his actual bed once how amazing) and not putting Red Bull in his coffee even when he’s convinced it’d be great)
new leaf: what message would your muse send to their past self, if any?
oh my goodness there are so many things he’d tell past!Ben? I think for sure he’d warn about the Rogers Ambush from Pilot, but even barring that, stuff like:“Do not leave Sutherland alone with Mr. Sackett.” “Yes, Lee is a traitor, but whatever Washington’s silence on the matter, he knows. He knows. Just…wait.” “You were trained as a scout. Maybe wait for Rev. Worthington’s contact. Look, listen. Use this to gain information instead of acting purely on emotion.”“It will seem good at the time but, trust me, don’t with the kissing :( “ (Additionally, if he’s met Mary: “WAIT FOR MISS FLOYD TRUST ME ON THIS” )“Don’t trust Arnold.”“Don’t miss wth is wrong with you how’d you miss” and then the very obvious but still True:“It’ll be okay” and “None of this is going to be how you thought.”
atoll: if your muse could go anywhere, without any restrictions whatsoever, where would they go? why would they go there?
HOME. He’d go back to Setauket. With his father. Get the church fixed up, take awhile to just wander the streets and marvel that the war is done. Visit the friends who are more than that. Who Know. They’ve all got quieter battles still to be won and eyes stained with secrets, but…somehow…they’ve all made it through and it’s time to rebuild.

𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒
Tumblr media
WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE SMELL LIKE? Mary is fairly modest, by most accounts, by choice, despite both her father being a wealthy landowner in Long Island, New York, and Benjamin Tallmadge (historical husband ftw!) owning lots of land in Ohio, post-war. Some small amount of in fashion perfume, and the smell of fresh books or pamphlets.
WHAT DO YOUR MUSE’S HANDS FEEL LIKE? Mary’s hands are gentle, at least compared to Benjamin’s clearly overworked ones. You can always tell the amount of money a woman is ‘swimming in’ based on the gentleness of her hands. Eliza Hamilton's are somewhere in the middle.
WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE USUALLY EAT IN A DAY? Whilst Mary is not the one cooking, usually, she certainly knows how, and she is head of the domestic Tallmadge household and knows how to run everything. All women upper-class women, at least the European/European adjacent ones, had to know such things, by nature of their social standing. Thus one could assume through context that Anna Strong, Mary Woodhull, Eliza Hamilton, Angelica Church, and, even my original character, Audrey, would at least be educated in such things. To that end, it varies day to day, as the Tallmadge's are above averagely “pious,” and protestant, even for the 18th century. Especially when compared to the Hamilton’s. Holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, are extremely important. A day, post-war, usually starts with tea and some kind of sweet bread, meals are small but frequent. Read more (from: Mount Vernon).
DOES YOUR MUSE HAVE A GOOD SINGING VOICE? Above average considering at least @honorhearted's Ben can't carry a tune, even if his life was dependent on it. (I won't assume about any other Ben's, mine certainly can sing, or at least pretends well enough that he can). She can also play Piano and she likes the notion of the harp, but, not yet.
DOES YOUR MUSE HAVE ANY BAD HABITS OR NERVOUS TICKS? Mary is a over-thinker, just like Benjamin. Additionally, a hair twirler.
WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE USUALLY LOOK LIKE / WEAR? Mary isn't styling herself, the servants do that. She is responsible— as mentioned above, for managing a household, as well as overseeing 7 children and their educations, post-war. The latest fashion, assuming the household has the means, though not excessive about it, but one should hope for progress, and reform, even in dress. Modest, one would say, a bit, too modest. (I certainly think so, she certainly wasn't as ambitious as Eliza Hamilton, or as forthright as Abigail Adams, Mary Floyd Tallmadge could've been an Angelica Church type if she wanted to be she just chose not to).
IS YOUR MUSE AFFECTIONATE? HOW SO? Not to people she doesn't know. But definitely exceedingly affectionate and warm to Benjamin Tallmadge (historical husband ftw!) friends, and people who make social calls to her regularly.
WHAT POSITION DOES YOUR MUSE SLEEP IN? On her side, curled up like a puppy. No real reason for it, beyond her own comfort.
COULD YOU HEAR YOUR MUSE IN THE HALLWAY FROM ANOTHER ROOM? That depends entirely upon the shoes she wore that day. Additionally, if she wanted you to hear. If you heard her, it'd be the tap-tap-tapping of a worthwhile upper-class lady’s shoes. Miss Mary Floyd, has, for now, little to hide, but she could indeed, hide in plain sight, under everyone's nose, if she wanted to.
Note on historical Mary Floyd Tallmadge of Brookhaven, as an archivist and amateur historian: -> from:sonofhistory. I am currently rereading Benjamin Tallmadge's memoir, again, for more than a few reasons, among them is putting together pieces on Miss Mary Floyd and her life before her husband, ie, archival detective work. I have, thankfully, extensively researched Eliza Hamilton, Angelica Church, Abigail Adams, I’ve also done a lot of research for my original character: Audrey, all of them, roughly around the same social standing, of slightly different backgrounds & viewpoints, by birth. This is simply me putting some of my detective work into a role-play context and stitching together a puzzle about a woman, I think, is fascinating and criminally underappreciated. As are Sarah Livingston (TURN), and Sarah Livingston-Jay.
Additional Note: -> Audrey, my original character, wilfully chose sex work to gain control of her own life & to spite her slaveowner, exceedingly catholic, controlling, father.

What other turn characters have you thought of writing? Do you think you could write a character like Simcoe, Caleb, Townsend, etc?
Full list of my canon/semi canon, American revolution/TURN muses is as follows, see original character list for that specifically. In that list it’s by historical era.
— Benjamin Tallmadge, Elizabeth Schuyler-Hamilton, Angelica Schuyler-Church, Mary Floyd Tallmadge, Sarah Livingston, Nathan Hale, Abigail (Strong), Lola (LeRoy), Anna Strong, Mary Woodhull, Esther de Berdt Reed, Philomena Cheer, John André & William Wilberforce.
I’ve thought of writing Simcoe, I just can’t write characters who operate in that frame of mind well. By which I mean, TURN! Simcoe is cartoonishly evil (affectionate). I think @johngravessimcoe and @honorhearted do excellent at their portrayals and nuancing their on the surface, very “good” vs “bad” characters. Cause the truth is, the American war of independence was a political war of colonial power vs colonial power as much as a philosophical and ideas war of information and neither side was innocent in it. If I wrote Simcoe it’d be closer to historical RPF, as opposed to his TURN! adaptation. Note that actual Simcoe was a badass and a super reformed abolitionist basically his entire life, just like his peer, the philanthropist and redcoat, William Wilberforce.
I won’t lie, I’ve mostly considered writing chaotic bi disaster Alexander Hamilton, not cause he’s my favourite founding father/founding father adjacent. But because his chaotic, dandy energy is unmatched and also because there’s a mountain of evidence to suggest, strongly, bisexuality. Even by 18th century standards when that was in fashion, ala, the Duchess of Devonshire’s household and her affairs across the gender spectrum.
Tumblr media
For an excellent Caleb Brewster, I must direct you to: @firstmategod. for Bradford: @curseconsumed, and for Abraham Woodhull & Edmund Hewlett: @sharp-teeth-and-wide-grins / @cabbxges-and-kings, for Alexander Hamilton: @fromnevis & @adcthamilton & for Washington: @historiavn 💕

👀 and 🔥
👀 …someone my muse likes, but doesn’t trust.
Benedict Arnold. He might be a hero of the revolutionary war, but he rubs her the wrong way with his tremendous ego and thirst for glory. White they are not all-together a terrible traits, Mary can not help but feel wary. Pride tends to go for a nice long fall and she certainly wouldn’t like anything like that to happen with him.
However, Arnold is a friend of her father’s and His Excellency. As such, he has earned some semblance of admiration and respect. After all, any man who takes a bullet to the leg and keeps on fighting to lead the colonial army to victory must be looked upon with high regard. ((this is before Arnold’s betrayal))
🔥…someone my muse would die for.
There are so many people that Mary would die for depending on verse. Naturally, Mary would die for any member of her family: her father William Floyd, mother Hannah, elder brother Nicoll, and younger sisters Catherine “Kitty”, Elizabeth as well as, half-sisters Anna and Elizabeth. She would also die for her distant relation, Caleb Brewster and any of his friends. She would also (in most verses) die to protect Benjamin Tallmadge. In other verses like the (forced Marriage Au) Mary would die in order to save Vin. Mary would also die in order to protect an innocent man or child.
@thenervetoservetheturn (thanks for the question darling. Sorry it took so long to respond Mary was giving me trouble with the first question. It would seem that she likes me but does not trust me completely yet.  XDDD)
