@honorhearted continuing from answer
Tumblr media
He nearly stumbled away from his desk, and Emma wanted to yell: how is this calm? But was so overwhelmed by emotions that she simply whispered: "I literally just said..." and let it be, especially because Ben was blatantly already looking for wounds. Unfortunately for him, it was her back that she had hurt when nearly getting impaled by a damn piece of wood, and her cloak covered that. She had blood on one hand, but it was hidden inside the cloak as well, closed into a fist to keep the fabric around her side.
She felt so horribly guilty. Not for the murder, it was perfectly fine in her opinion, no reason to lose a wink of sleep, but because she felt she had let Benjamin down. She should have been more reasonable, more in control, regardless of what Randall had been trying to do. Let Ben handle it. Let the general handle it. Although James, who was now guarding the body, had told her she hadn't killed him enough. And that she'd be in no danger, if anything they'd be very grateful if she didn't transform this in the worst diplomatic accident known to human. And yet somehow she still felt she had failed him.
"I did something bad." It was another whisper, and she felt the lump in her throat threaten to turn into more. God, her back hurt. Her head hurt, had she hit it? "I think. You need to sit. You can't walk out of here until I'm done talking. I'm serious, Benjamin."

@honorhearted said: "Can we speak of this another time? I'm busy." (for Mary!)
This was not how Mary envisioned her life unfolding. Ever since she was a child, she had strived to be proper, to be viewed as a good and Godly young lady. ‘Be kind’, her mother had told her, ‘kind and fair and devout and true. These are the makings of a desirable woman.’ and so she’d obeyed. Even now, over and over again Mary told herself to be kind, fair, devout, and true, and your husband will love you.
But she had not married the man to whom she’d been promised. Instead, she’d wed his brother, who had taken her hand out of some sense of duty or responsibility though he never spoke about why.
No matter how kind, fair, devout, and true she endeavored to be, her husband did not love her. He’d done his husbandly obligation and together they’d conceived and raised a child, but still, he did not spare her an ounce of affection.
Instead, Abe’s eyes lingered upon Anna Str.ong, the woman he had always loved and loved still. It tore at Mary until her heart was in tattered shreds. Anna was everything Mary was not.
Anna was inconsiderate, tempestuous, fickle, and irresponsible. She too was a married woman and yet Abe wanted her. In truth, Mary once utterly despised Anna for this, and that hatred ate at her gut until she was tired of the way that hatred felt. Instead, all her energy was now spent on ensuring her family's survival.
A fortnight ago, Mary had been brought to the Contin.ental Army’s New Wind.sor camp for her protection, and for her son’s, and Abe was off once again, in another covert plan to enlist in Arnold’s unit. While Mary supported her husband’s revenge against Sim.coe, she was once again left alone to wait for a man who did not want her and who might very well never want her.
Despite all this, Mary worried for his safety. Early that morning, she’d set out to Major Tall.madge’s tent to inquire about Abe’s well-being only to be met with unattentive indifference to her presence. It was something she was used to but refused to tolerate further.
"Can we speak of this another time? I'm busy."
Tumblr media
“We will speak of this now,” she firmly insisted, snatching the quill from his hand if only to force him to look into her pleading eyes, “Please, Major, you must know something about how he’s fairing. Will you not permit even five minutes to ease a wife's concern?”

@honorhearted // "Does that hurt?"
Tumblr media
It had been a miscalculation in her steps that led to the bullet embedding in her upper thigh. Fortunately, it hadn't been too deep to remove and would perhaps only result in a mild limp for the time being; that and a nasty scar -- but she hardly cared about something so superficial.
Rebekah hissed as her fellow soldier cleaned the wound, still a bit hazy from the adrenaline rush that came with the fray of battle to realize she was acquainted with him. Then again, it had also been quite some time since they'd last seen one another. That and she was posing as her late brother and dressed as a man in uniform.
"It's fine." she reassured, "I've been through worse."

@honorhearted | continued from x
the morning, having come off a long evening during which she herself had a meeting with washing.ton followed by alden, had caused frustration to lace most of her existence the last few hours prior to her decision to seek the major out. another meeting of her own had been conducted this morning with alden providing fresh word from mrs. morgan which had been less than ideal. an acceleration of a plan had now been required and she had saw to it that molnar had left camp with a company not an hour before to see it done. the following hour, however, had been less tense, at least within the grand scheme of things. she'd entered back into her space with her light hues washing over a chest and come to some sort of decision. an item about the size of a larger book is wrapped in a cloth in her arms when she meets him outside his tent, worry creasing her features for a moment before he begins to respond. that is when katarzyna's features begin to cool in response, hold tightening on the item in her hold as if a means to keep her own emotions in check.
'don't you already know?'
know what?
there is a multitude of meanings the major could be referring to though she believes she's aware of which once once she allows the shock of his coolness to wear off. this must have to do with the conversation she'd held with the general the day before though the timetable presented for such a mission as he presented her with had been unclear the day before (clearly it was no longer unclear). yet she fails to see what reason tallmadge could have to be so angered by such for if they were truly to work together what reason should he have not to allow her to meet with one of those spying for him. especially if she was expected to share her own information with him from her own?
'seeing how his excellency has been cluing you in to our tactical plans before myself as of late, i would've thought this would be why you're here.'
until his following comment washes over her. that was it, wasn't it? she knew things he did not and it angered him. it angers her too, or rather his tone does as she follows him into the tent, thankful that the child is not there presently. idly she wonders if it angered him more that he wasn't being informed of certain things when others were or if it was because his excellency was speaking about it with a woman? somewhere in the back of her mind the witch knows she can not entirely fault tallmadge for something he is unaware of. that her actual position within her forces is still unclear to him even if washing.ton is well aware (and if washington approves of such or not, he has accepted it as what such is to provide him his alliance). that does not halt the ice-filled and tone which leaves her lips in response though.
"i actually came here to bring you this--"
the item in her arms is dropped, not roughly but not entirely gently either, onto his cleared desk still wrapped in cloth. she'd mentioned before that she held a copy of sun tz.u's art of war in it's original dialect and while she knows he could not read it she had intended to offer him the chance to look at it and perhaps read some of it to him with his own copy as reference. after all, he had offered to teach her of a language she did not know, even if such would have been done with auggie present. this was how she saw fit to return the favor. now however, she's beginning to regret such a notion.
"--because i thought you might like to see it."
Tumblr media
there is a harshness to her, a glare given to the wrapped book itself as if it burned her before falling up toward the major who she's now standing next to by the desk. she holds her ground, stance firmly in place, confident and perhaps defiant. men and woman had been punished for less of a tone with her. but he was not one of those under her command and she knows, even if she must keep reminding herself, that he can not be faulted for his lack of understanding. it's entirely infuriating and yet perhaps more of an indication of why he should not be informed of such, at least until he presents himself ready to accept it.
'i'm supposed to go check on abe -- by myself, might i add -- but w.ashington has suddenly decided that you need to come along.'
this is new information. katarzyna knew the town the general wished for her to go to with the major from their conversation of which also spoke of her own presence there prior, her own spies of which could help the cause though names had not been discussed. she imagined that would be worked out between her and the major or when they arrived and would meet with those allies they had. it seemed a benefit to have her join the major. no matter how one looked upon it, a crossover of their allies would have to transpire and it would only aid the cause if she could see where his lived and such be able to send a critical message quickly if needed. the new information in question however is the name. abe. it makes her eyes widen briefly before she lets out a calming breath. surely there was more than one abe in the town. he could not be referring to cabbage man.
'it's too dangerous. you're not a spy, zyna -- you're not even one of my men, so this is a fool's errand. please…'
anger rises back within her before his use of a nickname seems to cause her pause enough to actually listen to his words. has he ever referred to her such before? now she finds a strange mix of emotions playing at her. he has managed to insult her and express worry for her in the same breath. had he not seen what she had been capable of before that first night they met or even when they fought that horrid creature of a witch in the woods? surly if it was dangerous for anyone, it was more dangerous for him who held no powers to get him out of such a situation if he was caught. knowledge of her rank or not, would he ever see her for what she was truly capable or would they continue this dance for the entirety of the war? still, it is difficult to remain completely cross with him when there is a genuineness to the fact he is misguidedly attempting to keep her safe when he turns softer and looks upon her and asks her to reason with his commander.
god, why was benjamin tall.madge such an infuriating man? why could she simply not be cross with him and that be that?
Tumblr media
"i'll put aside that you still seem to think i am unable to protect myself from danger." her tone is somewhat softer but still offended in a way she can not hide, turning matter-of-fact as she speaks again. "you're wrong though. it's not a fool's errand. i have my own spies in set.auket whom i imagine the general wishes you to meet and i have an alias there as well. if someone sees me, though i would rather them not at this time, a reason can be made for such unlike you. i'm afraid i can not reason with him when his logic for us to go together is sound. and-- "
this next piece of information would either serve to make him more angered or he would see the benefit of such.
"i know you do not seem to like seeing magic--"
she knows he understands that magic is not the same across the board at least in some sense as they have not actually bridged the gap in speaking topic, his own way of treating her especially after dealing with the incident in the woods and his willingness to let auggie play with cora and furgus said as much but she also knows he is still getting used to the idea of magic in a positive context and that would take time. she just wished, well, she's not entirely sure what she wished or why it mattered to her what he thought.
"--but if i see where this abe lives and he can be convinced that such is not evil i have means to pass communications to him quickly and directly but i must be able to see the place for such to work."

@honorhearted Ben x Sarah
The first part of the assignment was nothing new to Sarah: play girlfriend with a coworker so they'd both be able to infiltrate a company and obtain the necessary intel. Even so, sharing a house long-term and inviting people in to become a part of the community would require a certain amount of coordination, they couldn't improvise like on a regular mission. The second part was something that hadn't been disclosed to Tallmadge yet, and wouldn't be until they were sure they could proceed: pretending to be in love with the whole world including the CIA so that they could find the rest of the traitors, if Benjamin Tallmadge didn't turn out to be one of them. But Sarah knew, being one of the few people director Graham knew he could truly count on, and that meant they'd need to be even more prepared.
So after the director was done explaining the situation to her colleague, who was now in her team, Sarah waited for them to be alone so she could breach the subject. "Before we go packing, let's discuss the details of this mission," she suggested coolly, "If we are meant to act as a couple who has recently moved in together, we can't risk appearing uncomfortable with one another. We should know what to expect and what our boundaries are."

❝ i swear, if you do that one more time ... ❞ (for Frannie for the modern AU)
At the admonishment, Francesca let out a sigh and leaned back in her seat, arms folded across her chest to suppress the urge to fiddle. She had only been changing the radio station - okay, perhaps she had flicked through the channels a few times - but that was only because there was nothing good to listen to. And Ben certainly wasn't providing her with any worthwhile entertainment.
Tumblr media
The song that it had landed on when he'd snapped was an upbeat 80s tune, not so dissimilar from the music her dad's band used to make back in their heyday. Closing her eyes, she found herself humming along to the melody, wishing that they would just hurry up and get there already.
"How much further?" she asked after a minute, cracking open an eye to glance across at the drivers seat.

With concern, she watched as he tried to wobble to his feet. A gentle hand came to rest on his uninjured shoulder, silently encouraging him to remain seated.
"You might end up in one yourself if you are not careful," she warned him in response to his talk of shallow graves, and she pressed the back of her hand against his damp forehead. He didn't seem to be running a fever, not yet at least. "I need to change your dressings," she explained.
She was used to the delirious mumbling of feverstruck men, but her patient's words were surprisingly clear and rung with a sense of urgency and truth. "Once I have tended to your wound, I can send a message to the general," she murmured soothingly, hoping to appease him. "Will you tell me your name?"

@honorhearted : starter with Anne escaping a French Revolution
Tensions had been building for some time, ever since Louis had introduced his controversial new taxes, and the monarchy's popularity had fallen particularly low. But surely no-one could have foreseen this?
The hoards that had invaded the palace were not trained warriors nor an organised party, but their sheer numbers and shocking violence had overrun the guards within minutes. It was only due to Benjamin's quick thinking and excellent shooting that meant Anne's headless body was not laying beside that of her husband's.
Tumblr media
"You have always served the crown dutifully, Benjamin. I would understand if you wish to return to Paris," she assured him, softly, as they sheltered in a convent a few hours ride south of the city. He was no longer working for the King, after all. "I will be safe here, until word reaches my brother."
They both knew that was unlikely to be untrue; as soon as the rebels had celebrated their success, she would be their next target, and the convent was not far enough away to avoid suspicion.

@honorhearted Benjamin & Penelope
Tumblr media
"I don't know if I should be impressed or worried for how far Gregory will go once he puts his mind to it" Penelope greeted Mr. Tallmadge with the usual polite smile as she watched the boy in question run after his sister at full speed. She had known the man for as long as he had been the youngest Bridgerton's tutor as she was a fixed staple at the house as well, or had been at least. Her recent falling out with Eloise meant she had not been back to the house in some weeks sadly.
But she brushed that thought aside in favor of fixing herself some lemonade, the light blue of her dress a sharp contrast to the yellow she use to be forced into by her Mama in her first two seasons. "How are you fairing now that the new season has started?" The redhead asked, looking up at him. Even if she was no longer close with the family he worked for did not mean she had any reason to act differently towards him, after all he had done nothing to her.

How many times would the knights of Camelot encroach on his borders? His jaw clenched as he listened to the reports of yet another attack on a Druid settlement on the outskirts of his kingdom. If only he had the man power, he would have invaded Camelot three times over.
"Benjamin," he called towards the figure standing respectfully against the wall of the throne room. "Come, we will see if there are any survivors." Or, more tantalisingly, whether the Knights of Camelot had yet to return to their homes: his dungeons were unusually empty.
Not waiting for a response, he strode out the room and down towards the courtyard where their horses were already prepared.

@honorhearted ;; “Only your kind invitation could have forced me to leave the house today.”
Tumblr media
"Well then, I am glad for it--it has been too long since I have hosted an affair such as this."
It was as if no time had passed since her last masquerade in Venice all those centuries ago to tonight. Bianca was meticulous with every detail; down to the way the flowers were arranged to who would receive the honour of an invitation for her debut into this new world that she settled in.
The memories of Dresden were far back in her mind as she welcomed people in her home. For now, heartbreak was replaced with intrigue and delight at watching everyone figure out who is who.
Dressed in an elegant pink Grecian toga, her blonde hair was braided with the pearls that were so distinct to her. Tonight, she was the nymph Echo, her porcelain skin tinged with the slightest warmth from her recent imbibement of nourishing blood.
She turned to the man beside her, a small smile on her lips as she looked him over. "How intriguing it must be, to determine who is beyond the mask they wear tonight, isn't it? But I have to ask, who did you go as tonight?"

starter for @honorhearted
Emma had taken off after the sounds like a hound running to a prey, chasing the voices brought closer by the wind, what had to be a woman about to be attacked - no, robbed, she learned as she came closer to what turned out to be three men fighting her over a chest she had been carrying. Her order to 'run home!' towards the victim had been followed by her fist colliding with one of the men's face, at a speed that had immediately knocked him out. That gave her the chance to focus on fighting the second one, who clearly hadn't expected such a brutal attack and hadn't even managed to fight back before hitting the ground, while the third and last man saw how things were turning out and ran off. Fast. She started chasing him but on a second thought, seeing as they were 'only' trying to steal from the woman, she gave up and walked back to the two left, one unconscious and one nearly so. And that was when the Major Tallmadge arrived. Right. She probably wasn’t supposed to just drop everything and go after something without warning.
Tumblr media
"Now, I can explain," she started, temporarily putting her hands up in surrender, with the tone and look of someone who had uttered those words many, many times in the past and wasn't terribly ashamed of it, but was certainly trying to sound apologetic. She kept going a bit faster: "I heard a woman in danger, one against a bunch of men, I didn't even know how many or what they wanted to do to her, so I couldn't very well waste time doing anything but coming to her aid, could I? Turns out they were just trying to rob her and had to be taught not to manhandle ladies-" the last part was a more aggressive scolding towards the groaning one on the ground, a hand going to her hip as she glared at him before returning her eyes to the Major, "But it took me barely a minute and it's all done now. Actually I'd say I probably didn't even have a choice in the matter, it was my duty. As a citizen. Of another country, but still. And I was coming right back, no harm done." Surely he’d agree with that.

Anna was silent for a long while -- arguably, too long. Although Benjamin wouldn't say they'd reached a turning point, per se, he hadn't expected his words to wound her in such a stark manner.
Regret colored his features, and looking down at Mary to spare Anna of his attention, he stroked his fingers through the young girl's hair as she dozed, cooing softly within the candlelight.
Tumblr media
Anna's question roused him for a moment and Benjamin hesitated, stricken by her molten eyes and the brittle quality to her voice. "I…can see to it in the morning," he softly promised. "I'm not sure if we can leave exactly tomorrow, but I know Washington is impatient for more intelligence, and Abe…well…" Benjamin sighed, lifting his shoulders. "He hasn't exactly been delivering fast enough, and what he has brought to the table has apparently left much to be desired. In other words, I feel fairly confident that with Washington's blessing, we can set out as early as tomorrow afternoon."
Gently rubbing between Mary's shoulder blades, he asked, "Do you have all of your affairs in order? I imagine the doxies will be happy to tend the sutler cart, so you needn't worry about your campground duties."
Tumblr media
"In other words, I feel fairly confident that with Washington's blessing, we can set out as early as tomorrow afternoon."
The statement came as a relief to her. While she would sorely miss Keturah and Thomas terribly, they were arguably safer here in camp than they'd ever been back in Setauket among a plethora of British soldiers -- and Mary was too young to be used as a mouthpiece for the enemy.
Involving her youngest would surely have upset Selah. He would never have allowed it, were he a part of the planning, but the heartbreaking fact of the matter was...Selah was no longer there, and now Anna was the one who had to fight to protect their family. Besides, as Anna watched Ben hold Mary securely in his embrace, she knew he would look out for the little one's well-being.
Tumblr media
"Do you have all of your affairs in order? I imagine the doxies will be happy to tend the sutler cart, so you needn't worry about your campground duties."
"I'm sure they'll be glad to be rid of me for the time being. As you know, rumors spiral and the odious broads are under the impression I've special privileges because I'm getting off 'the young major Tallmadge.'"
The moniker had been said in a mocking tone, in the diction the uneducated doxies used as they wagged their insatiable tongues.
"I suppose you needn't worry about Abe while we're away, seeing as he hasn't delivered so much as one word as of late."

It'd been entirely unplanned, but the moment she'd passed an enemy soldier on horseback headed in the direction of her property, she'd pulled out her flintlock and turned back to fire on him, knocking him straight off his horse. Seeing as she'd been on foot, the animal had made it easier for her to take him back to her house, nestled quietly in the middle of the Jersey forest, far away from the city as well as any of the fighting -- or so she'd thought.
"You're holding me prisoner," he replied warily, "so therefore, you must want something. How am I to negotiate if I don't know the name of my captor?"
Tumblr media
"You're a rebel, are you not?" she volleyed, using the barrel to gesture at his undeniably blue uniform, "Binding you seemed appropriate, if only for my own protection."
Clara appraised him carefully. Despite the fact that she'd taken every potential weapon off his person (after treating the wound she'd so thoughtlessly inflicted) while he was unconscious, she still didn't buy that she was safe. After all, his kind couldn't be trusted in the slightest.
"Why don't you tell me who you are first? As well as what you were doing all the way out here."

@honorhearted Ben x Stella (going by Sophie/Robin)
While she was known as The Robin whenever Sackett had to address her as one of his informants, everyone involved in her mission knew her as Sophie Knight, the English noblewoman who had charmed General Harmstrong's very soul, and that had given Stella access to all the intel Sackett could possibly need about his troops, including the involvement of some traitors among Washington's midst. She had gotten the message that there'd be a raid soon and so she had prepared, knowing she'd have to act the part until truly safe so she could rely to Sackett himself the names she couldn't give with coded messages, unlike the intel about the dishonorable, illegal side-jobs the General had taken, which would have led him to a hanging no matter which side found out. She was no professional spy, after all, her cons had generally been about becoming richer or avenging some poor souls when justice couldn't be done, but if this job was paid as well as advertised she may consider doing it again; it wasn't hard, making a man long for the simple chance to kiss her, let alone persuade her to stay, even when they wore an uniform. Speaking of whom, Harmstrong was telling her to use her connections to save her life, since she was simply a woman and would not be judged for her man's fault. "But I can fight them! We can still run!" she begged him, making a show of picking up the decorative umbrella near her, "I could-I could..." "No, my darling, don't fight. It is not in your nature," he assured her, lowering her hand, "Go upstairs, and don't worry about me: we shall see each other again." Only in hell you creepy bastard, hopefully, she thought, pressing a kiss to his lips before running upstairs.
Thankfully, or perhaps because Sackett was certain of his loyalty, the man in charge of the group sent to her was Benjamin Tallmadge, someone she knew not to be in Harmstrong's pockets. "Found his lover-" a soldier started saying, and the slap she gave to his chest was so purposefully weak that it earned a look of genuine pity from the man.
Tumblr media
"You will not walk into my bedroom uninvited! I'm a lady! You cannot do this!" "We are not going to harm you if... Sir?" he called for Tallmadge, searching for help with the hysterical woman. "You monsters! You will pay for what you are doing! My General will go free and hunt you all down!" she shrieked, allowing another soldier to at least guide her outside of the room, to lower the chances of getting hit over what she was saying, "What has the King ever done to you, why must you fight honest men, what are you getting out of it?"

@honorhearted
Any of the pleasure she had once possessed was quickly forgotten as the sharp rap from the front door echoed into her bedroom. Laura's eyes snapped open.
"Fuck me," She grumbled with irritancy, sliding her pink dildo out from between her thighs, laying it glistening and graceless on the bedding.
"Just a minute!" She called, hurrying to get to her feet. Her hands were still trembling from her previous activities as she buttoned her shirt together. It was Ben's shirt she was wearing -- just another thing he'd left behind from the last time he'd spent the night -- and the material hung loose on her form, falling down to her mid thighs.
She reached in her dresser, grabbing fresh underwear and sliding the lacy material over her legs as she stumbled to the kitchen. She managed to wash the slick from her hands under the tap before padding barefoot to the door. She half expected it to be a delivery, but as she lifted herself on the tips of her toes to look out the peephole, she was surprised at who she saw.
Unlocking the deadbolt, she stepped aside, "I didn't think you'd be back so soon. What did you find out?" He'd been out of Los Angeles for the past week, interviewing witnesses they needed information from if they ever were to have a chance at getting full-pay for their latest case.
