This shot forever haunts me. The way they linger this shot on Neil when Keating says that dialogue

It’s so weird to think about what would have happened if Mr Perry wasn’t such a fucking dickhead. If he was a more distanced father like the others. Mr Perry started a domino’s effect that changed the lives of 8 peoples and probably some of the other students at Walton (Sticks, Spas, maybe even the Latin teacher).
What would have happened? Charlie wouldn’t have went to military school, Mr Keating would still be teaching at Walton, they would still have the meetings and go to university; would they keep in touch? Reminisce? Fight the long distances to stay family? Would any of them lead the lives they ACTUALLY wanted to live?

This is my official public apology to the Neil kinnies who saw my post. 😭
LET'S RETHINK WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE PLAY 😎
Tumblr media
I hope I am forgiven for my atrocious, horrid assumption that he would be anything far from ALIVE, happy and right now performing Much Ado About Nothing and Todd in the audience using him as inspiration for his next novel! 😚

Hi : )
I'm making a dps fic that takes place in the years Keating would've been attending Welton but from the perspective of Neil's mother who was going to Henley hall at the time
It's basically the maraudersifcation of dead poet society, that's what I've been calling it😭
It'll have alot of the parents like charlies and the other poets parents, both the fathers who would've been going to welton but it won't be focused on them but the original dead poets will be making appearances, also the others who would've been going to ridgeway (basically just Tom perry) will also be present and so much other things I'm so excited to write about
I think it'll just be fun, I've seen the idea on tiktok (unfortunately i cant find the video anymore ☹️ )and from one of my moots on dpstwt so this is just my addition🤲
I might post updates on here, it'll take time because I want it to be the best I can and because I have a bunch of other ideas I need to do + I go to in person school now so im busy with that😞😞
It'll be a long fic though I'm not sure exactly how long but definitely more then 10 chapters

DPS: “Tortured Lovers”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I saw someone the other day say that Todd and Knox are both tortured lovers and I found that super interesting. I don’t think it’s a reach at all, I think they both represent the spectrum of love and heartbreak with their own respective relationships.
I think Knox and Todd both start out quite similarly in that they are both in love with someone they can’t have. Knox was in love with Chris who had a boyfriend and no real interest in him. Todd was in love with Neil which was doomed to fail one way or another.
They were both tortured for the exact same reason, they couldn’t be with the person they loved but I think they also represent the different kinds of tortured lovers if that even makes sense. They both start the film enamoured and eventually form relationships (one cannon, one heavily implied) and they behave similarly. Todd and Knox are mutually tortured lovers, both resorting to pining and hoping. But their biggest split is during the play.
The play, obviously, changes the entire film. Knox gets the girl, whilst Todd still watches and ultimately, Neil kills himself. Both of their relationships end so differently but they’re still tied together by the title of “tortured lovers”. Todd has to live without Neil, but Knox has to be with Chris quietly.
I just want to take a moment to kind of highlight Knox secretly being with Chris because even though it’s only a short clip of them together, it reminds me vaguely of Neil and Todd - the prospect of hiding away behind a crowd with the person you love so you don’t face negativity.
In a way, Knox and Todd remain as tortured lovers throughout the entire film but with entirely different endings to their stories. I think that just goes to show how succinct the film is in capturing all angles of love under one umbrella.
~
I posted this as a reblog with the original post but for some reason Tumblr crashed and deleted it so if the op sees this, hello thank you, this is dedicated to your post.

[attention:general spoilers for the movie Dead Poets Society and the play which is now put on in Greece.]
I was finally able to watch the Dead Poets Society play, the greek version,and...let me just say,I got goosebumps from the acting, the scenery, the direction, the music (shoutout to Μαρίζα Ρίζου,she always eats and leaves no crumbs)...everything was just spectacular,to say the least.
(weren't we in a public space,I would sob my eyes out-I have this inability to cry in front of people,so...haha...)
I have been a part of this fandom for three and a half years and I have had my (unhealthy,lmao-) obession with this movie more than a few times.with thay being said,I just wanted to share some highlights here, apart from the script parts they followed to the letter:
(which I hope it is not "illegal",or anything, lol,it's not my intention at all!but I do believe it is not,for it is not a photograph or a video from the show,so.)
they began the play with mr.Keating (presumably near the end of his life??) reminiscing what he did wrong and right in his life,a trip through his memory of which we saw the part where he was hired to Welton to teach.
the platonic.physical.affection!!!!like,the dead poets were much more physically affectionate with each other, hugs and hair ruffling etc. were there almost in every scene between everyone.
they got rid of the party scene, guys, gals and non-binary pals!!!also,Knox was still kind of annoying (yes, this is just my opinion,I am sorry) but not as creepy as in the movie when it came to Chris-like,he still went to her school and recited the poem to her,but she was much more herself and not as "passive" (I am afraid it is not the right term, but forgive me,it's nearly two a.m. here, lol) in the relationship as in the movie,in the amount they (meaning the people working for the play) were able to do that.still not fanon Knox, but I liked him better,lol-
GINNY DANBURRY,AAAA!they realised our girl's potential!she was even singing when playing Hermia-ethereal,stunning,beautiful,what can I even say about her!still a small part, though, but seeing her as an active character in the story almost brought me to tears (yes,I love Ginny that much,I have even written fanfiction with her as a protagonist which I haven't shared, keep scrolling-).
they got rid of some of the racist stuff-kept the n*wanda (twice mentioned,if I am not mistaken) and the indian symbol of fertility thing,though...
if you thought I would leave Neil and Todd out of this, dear reader of this post, you are fooling yourself.first of all,in the desk set scene they used a Yale mug with the same script, except in the end,Neil turns it into a basketball game with the mug and when Todd scores two points,Neil is loudly cheering for him or something, they both stop at some point for mere seconds and then, out of the blue,Todd falls into Neil's arms and they hug for a little while,Todd saying thank you,Neil and it's so freaking beautiful I almost cried right then and there.
(tw:mr.Perry,mention of physical violence,suicide mention)
also, they were rehearsing for Neil's play in their bedroom, giggling and all that anderperry jazz, and then, all of the sudden,Neil's awful father comes in and slaps Neil for disobeying him and going to the play and it goes how we all know it goes after that...
they switched between Neil's suicide scene and Todd reading his poem in the cave, the others following suit and reading,as well;Charlie(?),Ginny and Todd read last, and Neil looks at Ginny while she is reading and then it's Todd's turn-when he finishes his poem, they sort of lock eyes and Neil goes behind Chris,Ginny and the dead poets and...well.pulls a Neil Perry.
I won't mention the scenes after that.
overall,it was one of the most beautiful and wonderful things I have ever seen.
*it's just so...unfair (a light word is used here, just because) that the greek government wants to degrade artists' university and college degrees to those of secondary school's graduates.
art is what makes us feel alive.
or,like mr.Keating himself said:[...]poetry,beauty,romance,love;these are what we stay alive for.*
