Please, come back, don’t you leave me
You stood over his hospital bed, tears slipping down your cheeks. "Please dad, don't leave me, come back to me."
It had never meant to happen. He wasn't supposed to be laying there, at least that's what Casey had said.
"Still nothin'?" You didn't need to turn, the familiar sound of Hermann's voice rang out. "Nothing yet." Apart from you and Trudy, Hermann was the only one allowed in, Trudy's orders. Unlike you, your stepmother was not too happy with the way things had been done in the situation. So the fact that Hermann was allowed in was progress. "He'll pull through hun, don't you worry, your father is a strong man."
"I just worry so much Uncle Chris." He nodded at that. You'd been really close with your dad since you were little.
Getting out of your chair, you told him you'd be back, and asked if he wanted something.
"Just a coffee is fine."
The two of your shared a quick hug before he took up the spot you'd just held.
~~~
"Hey, I didn't remember if you had--" you started, looking up at Hermann who was now standing, talking to your dad. "Oh my God! DAD!" The coffee cups dropped from your hands as you ran to your dad's bedside. "You're awake!"
Tears streamed down your cheeks now, but they were all happy tears. "Hey, sweetheart."
You flew down to hug him so he wouldn't have to move too much. "I'm so happy you're awake Dad."
Field Trip
Tumblr media
Kelly Severide X Daughter!reader, Firehouse 51 x Severide!Reader
Summary: House 51 finds out you're being bullied after your class comes to the house for a field trip.
Warnings: Bullying
Reader's Age: 8
A/n: My first Chicago fire fic! This takes place season 4. There will be a second part.
Tumblr media
Kelly packs your lunch while you got dressed. He looks toward your room to see you if you were coming out yet.
"Y/n! Hurry up! We're going to be late." He shouts zipping your lunch box up and reaching for your backpack.
"Coming!" You shout. He goes to set the lunch box in you bag before he notices a crumpled-up paper. He grabs it and uncrumples it before reading what it said. It was a field trip permission slip? Why didn't you tell him yet? He knows you, he knows how excited you get about field trips you'd never forget.
"Okay I'm ready." You said coming out of your room.
"Hey why didn't you tell me about this field trip?" He asks reading the paper over figuring it might be somewhere you wouldn't think he'd allow you to go. It was to fire house 51, why would you hide that from him. He had known there was a class coming to the house but he didn't know it was yours.
"Cause I don't want to go on it." You shrug putting your shoes on. He grabs a pen so he can sign it
"Why not bug? You love coming to the house." He says, as he signs the permission slip.
"This is different then going there with you." You say grabbing your bag. He looks at you questioningly.
"Please come. The guys would be so excited to see you." He says as Matt walks into the kitchen. You guys were still sharing a place with him. "Matt wouldn't everyone be excited to see y/n at the house today?"
"Yeah." He says confused.
"Dad, Uncle Matt it's not the same." You claim as he hands you the permission slip.
"I don't know what we're talking about." Matt says going around the counter to get a drink.
"Her class is coming on a field trip to the house today and she doesn't want to go." Severide says.
"What? Why not?"
"I just don't want to. Can we go now?" You ask putting your backpack on.
———
You sat on the bus on the way to the firehouse. You knew this was a bad idea but you were doing it cause your dad wanted you too.
"Hey Y/n?" You don't respond. "What? Cats got your tongue?" The guy behind you pushes your head.
"Leave me alone Brad." You mumble glaring at him.
"No what are you going to do cry to your mommy? Wait you don't have one." He laughs looking at his buddies.
"At least I have a dad that isn't a drunk." You quip back at him. He glares at you but sits back when the teacher looked your way. You looked out the window watching the building pass. It doesn't take long until the bus pulls into the firehouse. You stand up putting your bag back on and looking at your teacher.
"Okay everyone! Stay together no wandering off, listen to the firemen. They didn't have to let our class come by to see the firehouse but they did so be on your best behaviors. We're going to have pairs, that I'll be picking. So-." She goes through the names in alphabetical order by last name which was how she did the pairs. You crossed your fingers, Brad is right before you when going alphabetically. "Brad and Y/n." You groan looking at him and he just smirks. She eventually gets through all of the names. "Okay stay with your buddy at all times. Now single file let's get of the bus."
Everyone leaves the bus and finds their buddy. You stand before Brad frowning. Kelly and Matt were waiting to see if you'd come. Kelly hadn't mentioned it to anyone else. Matt was just curious mostly as to why you wouldn't want to come. Boden stands outside to greet the students and notices you rather quickly.
"Ms. Gates. Hello I'm chief Boden."
"Hello Chief nice to meet you. This is my class." She motions to the 12 3rd graders including you. You looked at squad table where your dad was grinning having seen you.
"Hello kids." He smiles. He decides not to greet you by name but he smiles back at you when you nod hello to him. "Welcome to firehouse 51. This is Otis he's going to be giving you a tour." Otis scans his eyes over the crowd of kids noticing you.
"Why do they call you Otis?" A girl in your class asks him.
"It's because I am the elevator guy." He explains.
"Oh." She says though she clearly still didn't understand.
"Okay lets start the tour!" He grins. You don't really pay attention since you've grown up in this firehouse. Brad seemed interested in it which meant he wasn't bullying you. Which means no one here knew you were being bullied. You had it handled, you didn't need to tell your dad.
You were intently listening to Otis talk about things you already knew. It was better then staying at the school you guess. Soon the tour was pretty much over. But because of Brad you got separated from the class. He got distracted looking at something, you tried to tell him to hurry up because you didn't want to get in trouble when Ms. Gates couldn't find him. He didn't listen though so now your separated from the group.
"This place is small I can find my way around it without Otis." He claimed after you pointed out that your were "Lost" you were you knew where you were but he didn't. "Now hurry up the teacher is going to notice cause you walk so slow."
"Uh huh." You mumble.
"Couldn't hear that." He teases laughing.
"You're just making us more lost." You say as he continues you taking you everyone except where you should be.
"Shut up. I know what I'm doing." He scoffs.
"Sure you do. Your just an idiot." You say under your breath. You didn't think he could hear you but he did.
"What did you say?" He asks halting his steps.
"I said you're just an idiot." You said a little louder. You looked around to see if anyone was around but nope of course not.
"Whatever at least I have a mom unlike you." You didn't say anything just walking toward the common area since you knew at least Mouch would be there. "Don't ignore me!" He says chasing after you pulling on your backpack to stop you.
"Hey." You yelped you didn't notice that Herrmann and Mouch were walking down the hall and saw you, they couldn't hear you guys but could see everything. They already knew you were here, they saw you with the class but they just waved. They didn't want to bother you when you were with friends. Well herrmann wanted to but Mouch stopped him. "Let go."
"What're you going to do huh? You're weak you can't do anything." Brad laughs in your face pushing you to the ground, you were quick to get up about ready to tackle him. The bullying was never physical it was just insults and stupid comments. You kicked him in the crotch causing him to fall to the ground. This was their cue to break it up.
"Woah there kids." Herrmann pulls him back right before he can fight back while mouch holds you back when he notices you try and swing at Brad.
"Why are you fighting?" Mouch asks, looking between you both.
"She kicked me for no reason! I was just trying to find someone cause we got lost." Brad lies.
"He pushed me! So I fought back." You said hoping they'd believe you. They knew the truth but you didn't know that. What you just did was starting to settle in and you were worrying about your dad's reaction.
"Okay kid." Herrmann looks down at Brad. "I'm gonna need you to tell the truth."
"I just did!"
"No you didn't! You pushed me I was just fighting back!" You argue. Mouch tightens his grip on you to make sure you don't try to fight him again.
"You're the liar. You kicked me for no reason!"
"Alright! We saw it happen. We want to know why it happened." Herrmann says sternly. You grew silent not wanting to admit it.
"She called me an idiot."
"Did you y/n?" Herrmann asks loosening his grip but keeping his hands on brad's shoulders so he could stop him if he did try anything. Mouch did the same with you noticing you calmed down a bit.
"Yeah I did."
"Wait how do you know her name?" Brad questions.
"Why did you call him an idiot?" Mouch asks ignoring Brad.
"He keeps commenting about how I dont have a mom... And he got us separated from the class and he claimed he knew what he did. And he is one!"
"Am not!" He argues.
"Yes you are!" You say before he tries to fight you again. Herrmann holds him back though while you lean back into Mouch to farther yourself from Brad.
"Take him back to their class. I need to talk to Y/n." Herrmann says to Mouch.
"Seriously how do you know her name?"
"My dad works here." You say. Brad's eyes widening but Mouch started leading him away before he could respond.
"How long?" Christopher asks you kneeling to be eye level with you.
"How long what?" You ask even though you knew.
"How long have you been being bullied and does your dad know?" He clarifies studying your face.
"Uncle Chris it doesn't matter." You say, you didn't want to talk about it.
"It does matter." You're family. Kelly is family so you're family. Maybe even a little more than kelly, you're his daughter's best friend and spend a lot of time at his house. Cindy watches you sometimes when Kelly is on shift, you have a nanny so normally your with her but when you can't be then you're with Cindy. "Even if you dont tell me I have to tell your dad."
"You can't! Uncle herrmann I have it handled."
"Handled? That didn't look handled."
"I just handled it. Please don't tell dad." You beg him. He shakes his head, he wants you to trust him, but he'd want kelly to tell him if he found out one of his kids were being bullied.
"You have to tell him or I will." He says before standing again. "I can be with you when you tell him. Now let's you get you back to the class."
"Okay." You mumble looking at ground.
"Y/n! I said no wandering and to stay by your buddy." The teacher says as you and Herrmann walk up.
"That's my fault Ma'am I had to talk to her about something so I sent her buddy back so I could." Herrmann explains to her.
"Okay. I guess that is fine then."
"Bye Uncle Chris." You say trying to shoo him away.
"You have a firemen as uncle?" One of your classmates ask grinning
"All of my uncles are firemen." You say which was true, you've known most of these people your while or most of your whole life, so you call them aunt and uncle. Other than Mouch and Otis they're just Mouch and Otis but you consider them your uncles either way. Herrmann smiles before walking out to the apparatus bay.
"Why didn't you mention that?" Ms. Gates asks.
"I thought you knew my dad was a firemen." You shrug. The teacher nods.
"Y/n you didn't tell your class about us?" Otis asks acting offending.
"Sorry Otis." You shrug before he goes back to the tour leading you all back to the apparatus bay to teach you about the equipment.
"Your dad works here?" Nate, one of Brad's friends asks in a whisper.
"Mhm." You nod not taking your eyes off of Otis. You could feel Herrmann and Mouch watching you as you sat beside Brad and his friends. They wanted to tell Kelly but wanted to see if you would first.
"Then who is he?" Jackson one of his other friends ask also whispering.
"Kelly severide." You motion to the table. Kelly talking to Capp about something.
"Really? Then why hasn't he said hi to you yet or talked to you?" Brad asks in a taunt.
"I dont know. Shush I'm trying to listen." You whisper looking over at herrmann.
"I bet you're lying just to get attention." He says louder than he meant making Otis look at you guys.
"Keep it down please so the people who want to learn can."
"Sorry." You say.
"If he's really your dad you'll go over and say hi to him."
"Ms. Gates would be mad if I leave the group again. I'm not doing it leave me alone Brad." You mutter
"That's cause he isn't your dad. You're lying for attention I knew it." Jackson laughs. You try to ignore them listening to Otis talk about something.
"Her dad is probably just some loser that's why she's lying." You look over at Herrmann and Mouch. They kept their eyes on you and the boys but were talking to each other.
"Your uncles won't be there next time." Brad says looking back at the firemen who glared at him, he turns back to Otis.
——
"Didn't she tell your kids?" Mouch asks herrmann.
"Annabelle didn't mention anything to me. Cindy would've said something if Annabelle told her." Hermann says looking at his friends.
"Severide doesn't know?"
"No. I heard from Casey that she didn't even want to come on this field trip. I guess we know why now." Herrmann says as your class comes out on to the apparatus floor again.
They watch you sit beside Brad and two other boys who were talking with Brad. The two men keep an eye watching you four talk. Noticing how you'd look at them every few minutes or so. They could hear one of the boys say you're lying for attention. They glared at Brad when he looked back at him. Brad turn around quickly, Herrmann smirks, he's never been happier to have a kid scared of him.
"Why are you glaring at that kid?" Dawson asks walking over to them.
"We caught y/n getting into a fight with that kid." Mouch says.
"He's been bullying her. She hasn't told anyone though." Herrmann says.
"Oh." Dawson say looking over at you, you are currently whispering to the guys next to you. "Have you guys told kelly yet?"
"No I'm giving her the chance to first. For now we watch." He says leaning back on the wall.
"Cause that isn't creepy." She chuckles patting his shoulder before walking away.
——
"Okay kids lets eat lunch and get back to school?" The teacher's voice breaks your thoughts. "Find a place to sit and eat with your friends just stay out of the way of the firefighters please." You get up and walk over to Herrmann and Mouch.
"Hey kid. Everything alright?"
"I'll tell dad... Not right now though I'll tell him tomorrow."
"Tell me what?" Kelly asks as he walks up behind you.
"Uh.." You look at herrmann for help. He nods slightly and you look back at your dad. "I'm being bullied... I got into a fight earlier."
"Who? Those boys you were talking to?" Kelly looks at them.
"Yeah. But dad im fine! I have it handled.." You say.
"Have you told your teacher?"
"No.. I haven't told anyone. Only reason they know is cause they caught us fighting." You mumble looking at the ground. You know you should've told him when it started but a lot has been happening lately that you thought it was better not to worry him.
"Okay... I'll talk to your teacher. Go sit at squad table and eat your lunch." Kelly says. "And bug please tell me next time."
"I will I promise. But I did totally win that fight! Ask them." You say proudly.
"Uh huh." He chuckles hugging you.
"Thank you guys." You say to mouch and Herrmann hugging them before running over to say hi to Capp.
"Thank you two for helping her." He says to the older men.
"Of course, if you found out my kids were being bullied id want you to tell me and Cindy." Herrman assures.
"Of course we'd tell you. Also she really did do some damage to that kid." Mouch says grinning. Kelly smiles shaking his head.
"Okay I need to talk to her teacher now. Thanks again."
"Hi Uncle Capp! Hi uncle Cruz!" You smile as you take your book bag off your back and sit in Kelly's seat.
"Hey baby Severide." Capp smiles. "What do you got for lunch?"
"A sandwich. Dad can only make a basic lunches." You say pulling the lunch box out.
"That's why we don't let him cook for us." Capp jokes.
"Who were those boys?" Cruz asked you.
"The guys who've been bullying me. But I already told dad and he's dealing with it." You say pulling out your sandwich.
"You're being bullied?"
"That's what I just said." You mumble taking a bite of the sandwich.
"Why didn't you tell us? We could've rough him up a bit for you." Capp jokes.
"I already did. I faught him in the hallway earlier and I won." You say smugly.
"Way to go." Cruz grins high-fiving you. "How did gig do it?"
"I kicked him in the crotch." You whispered. Capp laughs high giving you.
"Good job." He grins.
"Thanks." You say with your mouth full. You look over at your teacher and Kelly. He seemed frustrated but you couldn't hear what they were saying. "
"He'll get the teacher to do something about it. If she doesn't, you have a bunch of firemen who can scare him off for you." Cruz grins. You nod looking down at your food.
"Hey Y/n how was the tour?" Otis walks over to the table smiling at you.
"It was good. Sorry I missed some of it. Brad the guy I was paired with got distracted by something.. And than he wouldn't let me lead the way back."
"It's okay."
"Hey Otis our little y/n here got into a fight today and won." Cruz smirks proudly.
"No shit. When?" Otis leans on the table.
"When we got lost."
"That's what herrmann was talking to you about."
"Yeah. Him and Mouch had to break it up." You say grabbing your cookie from the lunch box. "Dad is talking to Ms. Gates about it." You motion to where kelly was at.
"It'll end up okay." Otis assures. Kelly walked back over looking angry.
"She said she can't do anything." He says sitting down in one of the chairs.
"What? Why not?"
"Something about school policy and kids needing to handle it themselves I don't know."
"That's bull shit." Cruz says. You look over at Brad and the other two boys. You thought it would end not that you told your dad but it won't of course.
"Hey we'll get him to stop. I have one rule though you don't start any fight okay? But you end them okay?" Kelly asks you taking your cookie and breaking a piece off of it before handing it back to you.
"Yeah I won't start any fights I promise."
"Good."
"So tell my y/n how did you win that fight?" Otis asks.
"Fight?" Sylvie asks walking over.
"What happened?" Stella says coming over as well.
"Our little severide here got into a fight." Cruz grins.
Even if you are being bullied, you know you'll always have support here.
"Did you just throw that at my HEAD?"
With Severide CF? ❤️
Tumblr media
“Did you just throw that at my head?” You directed your stunned words at Kelly, who had, believe it or not, thrown something at your head. That something was still to be determined as you rubbed the sore spot on your temple, twisting in your position on the couch between Matt and Mouch to gape at the offender, who looked anything but regretful. In fact, he looked especially unimpressed.
“To monogamy or not to monogamy...”
All heads in the common room turned towards Matt as he picked up the object Kelly had tossed, a short stack of stapled papers, and read the title. It was in that moment, after he’d read the final word and the unimpressed expression on Kelly’s face darkened, that you had to bite your tongue to keep from snorting laughter, despite the situation you seemed to have landed yourself in.
Others had more trouble keeping their amusement at bay, a chorus of laughter echoing around the room as Matt continued to read.
“‘Lieutenant Kelly Severide would argue for the latter. Though he may seem like a family man, willing to settle down with a wife and a couple kids—’” Matt held a fist to his lips, his chest jolting with supressed laughter— “’he is in fact the opposite.’”
Hermann slapped the back of his chair with a guffawing laugh. “The hell is that?”
Kelly uncrossed his arms to grip his forehead, dragging a tired hand down his face. “It’s a smear campaign against me, that’s what it is.”
Your brother seemingly engrossed in the remainder of the sheets’ paragraphs, intermittently snickering to himself, you turned to fully face Kelly and rest your arms on the back of the couch. You attempted to appear somewhat serious, very aware Kelly was taking it as such, but every time you tried to school your features, a sentence you’d written or a word you’d typed after chuckling to yourself for a good minute floated back in your brain, and Kelly’s face suddenly seemed far more comical than he definitely intended it to be.
Mouch leant over to peer at the sheets of paper, and Cruz and Otis rushed to read over Matt’s shoulder. Kelly looked hilariously betrayed, and you knew you had to speak before you burst into laughter.
“Okay, hear me out, hear me out,” you deadpanned. Otis snorted at a particular line beside you and you clamped down on your tongue. “I got nothing.” Kelly lifted a finger to point at you, dangerously dipping his head, and you grinned, shaking a hand at him. “Joking! I’m joking! We had to write a journal article on something funny, okay? It was just practice for exam season.”
Kelly tossed his arms up in obvious protest. “So why not write about Otis’s pink underwear? Or—Mouch’s infatuation with stamps?”
Otis was too engrossed in his new reading material to object, but Mouch ripped his attention from the article for a single second to correct him. “Collection, Severide. It’s a collection.”
You allowed Kelly to see your grin. You certainly hadn’t intended on him getting hold of the article, but you could only blame yourself for that, having worked on it earlier in his office while he finished paperwork. Really, you should have set yourself a reminder to take it with you when you left, knowing Kelly liked to read your schoolwork, but Cruz had called for lunch and you’d unapologetically raced to the kitchen before the others were given the chance to eat it all.
“It’s not going anywhere,” you assured him. “I’m not gonna hand it in.” Boden walked in then with his empty plate, not bothering to ask what was going on but moving to peek over Matt’s shoulder all the same. “Did you even read it?” you asked. “Gabby says it’s good.”
Gabby glanced up with a mouthful of tomato pasta. “What?” she asked with a shrug when Kelly turned a raised eyebrow on her. “It is.”
"Yeah,” Kelly said, “I read some of it. Stopped after ‘Kelly likes to blast Britney Spears’s Womanizer when he drives to work.’”
“Spoilers!” Cruz yelled. “We’re not there yet!”
Kelly ignored him. “Is my life a gag to you?”
You contemplated that. “Your love life is.”
Not a single person reading your article reacted when Kelly strode forward and bent over the couch to grab you. You scrambled backwards, shrieking after you seemed to forget the couch ended at some point and toppling backwards onto the floor. Again, nobody moved a muscle to help. Mouch shifted into the space you’d left to gain better access to the article, and Kelly rounded the couch in quick pursuit of you.
“Casey,” he yelled as a tussle broke out between you, “rip it up!”
If you could have seen behind the arms you were shoving back and the legs you were lifting to kick at his chest, you would have seen the men’s looks of horror at Kelly’s orders.
“But—but—” Mouch quickly verbalised his panic at not yet having finished the article.
“Aw, come on,” Matt said, “it’s a work of art.”
“Don’t worry, guys,” you ground out between clenched teeth as you grappled for the upper hand. “I’ll email you the copy on my laptop!”
It was then that Kelly laughed, too taken by the situation and the pure gall of the girl he’d helped raise to not find the hilarity in it in the end.
“Absolute madcap,” he said around his laughter, reaching back to wrench the papers from an indignant-looking Matt and hitting you on the head once again. “You’re way too much trouble.”
Sperm Donor 1128
Mouch x Reader
description: Confidential records have been compromised and you (paramedic) find out your friend at Firehouse 51 is your father.
Tumblr media
Y/N’s a paramedic at Firehouse 51 on Ambulance 61. She’s been learning from Sylvie and Gabby on tricks and tips on rides and their tradition of getting food after each runs. Sylvie and Y/N had their tradition of getting ice cream cones in the summer, fall-flavored donuts in the fall, hot chocolate in the winter, and brownies or cookies in the spring. She became fast friends with the two girls who she now considered family. And that’s how it was with the rest of the firehouse. Boyden was clearly her favorite. He had a soft spot for her and chose to lean on her with hard times. Y/N would also take her off days to help Donna and babysit while they worked late. Even some nights hanging out at Molly’s she’d slide behind the bar and help when it got crazier.
She felt like she finally belonged. Her old house hated her. She never knew what she did wrong, but something was off with everyone in the house. It was recently shut down due to corruption and she was the only one who didn’t get caught up in it. Apparently, she was the pure and gentle kind of the house. That’s how she fits perfectly with 51.
So when she heard about what happened with Mouch through Herrmann, she got curious and ran to the girls.
“Sylvie, Gabby. Remember when I told you about how I never knew my dad. My mom married after I was born and he’s not my biological.” They nodded. “Well, mom finally told me she used a sperm donor. I found the paperwork and their system broke down and… I found out who my dad is.”
They both gasped. “That’s great! Who is he?” Sylvie asked.
“Does he still live in Chicago? Maybe we can track him down, if that’s what you want.” Gabby smiled wide.
“It’s Mouch.”
Their shocked faces lasted the rest of the day. Neither of them said a word to Mouch knowing it might spill if it did. Y/N told them you didn’t want to mention anything to Mouch. They work together and loved one another as friends, so now seeing him as her father, it felt like it would change the dynamic of the friendship and the house altogether.
Tumblr media
She walked into the common area headed for coffee with Sylvie and Gabby gossiping about something. That’s when she overheard Mouch’s words, “No good can come from this Herrmann. I just don’t want to lift this garden stone. I’ll be better off. The kid too, whether they know it or not.”
Y/N dropped the ceramic mug, shattering it. It startled everyone, including herself. “I’m sorry. Excuse me.” Picking up all the pieces and put them in the trash. Y/N quickly exited through the conference room and headed towards the bathroom. Tears threatening to roll down her face. Sylvie and Gabby were hot on her tail.
“Oh, sweetie. He doesn’t know it’s you. He might think differently if he knew.” Gabby rubbed your back.
“You both heard him. “I’ll be better off”. That’s a direct quote.” Y/N cried into her friend’s arms. “I’m going to ask Chief for the rest of the day off. I don’t think I can stand to be around Mouch or any of the guys right now. They’ll just press harder.” Sylvie nodded with Gabby agreeing and walked Y/N to Boyden’s office.
“Ah, Y/N. Come in, sit. I heard what happened. What’s going on?” Boyden gently held your hand on the couch.
“Mouch is a sperm donor, the company had a security breach and his information got out. My mom sued a sperm donor to get me…” She looked down at her hands, not wanting to look up and face the expression on the Chief’s face. “I am his daughter. He doesn’t know, but he’s certain on not wanting to know who his kid is.” At this point, she’s softly crying into her hands. All Y/N has wanted was the truth about her life, where she comes from, who she is. She’s wondered if she takes traits from her father; if she looked like him; if she had the same habits; if there were hereditary genes or conditions.
Boyden hugged her tightly as she cried. “Take the rest of the day off. Go home, see your mom. Talk to your brother. Get your mind off of it.” He rubbed her back soothingly. “But, I guarantee that if Mouch knows he’s your father,” Y/N looked up, “He’d be honored.”
Tumblr media
Y/N didn’t know what to think. Boyden had walked her to her car. Sylvie and Gabby promised her that she’d be seeing them with dinner and drinks tomorrow. Even though she was grateful, all she wanted was to be left alone. The man who she became so close with at work, doesn’t want to know who she is. It didn’t make sense. Mouch was loving, caring, goofy, and a hero. Mouch would lay down his life for any stranger. Mouch would fight all he had to help those in need. Y/N wasn’t hurt, she was devastated.
Tumblr media
Y/N didn’t leave her bed at all the rest of the day. There was no appetite to eat anything, or energy to even answer the door. The doorbell rang on and off for two minutes before she decided to get up and answer it. Upon opening the door, Mouch was on the other side.
“Mouch? You’re on the job, what’s wrong?”
“Wallace told me. Y/N, I didn’t know it was you. Your brother called wanting to meet. He wanted to protect you. I didn’t know. I would be so honored to be your father. I already feel like I have been. I’m so sorry you heard what I said. I panicked. I don’t know the first thing about being a father. I didn’t think I ever would be. Please forgive me?” Mouch looked extremely distressed, knowing she was this miserable.
“Of course.” Y/N was pulled into a bear hug.
Tumblr media
The next day, the second shift of 51 showed up at her house for a family dinner with their families. It was a beautiful and heartwarming experience. She knew she belonged and knew she was placed at 51 for a reason.
Airports, Dinners and Secrets - Hailey Upton x Platt’s Goddaughter!Reader - Chicago PD
Request:  Hello! I love your writing! I don’t know if you’re taking requests (sorry if you aren’t!) but if you are could you do one where reader is Trudy Platt’s goddaughter and finds out that reader and Hailey have been dating in secret? TY!!! :)
You met Hailey out of luck.
It was luck because Platt was going to send Burgess and Atwater to pick you up from the airport. She did that when they were part of patrol and you were visiting on a break from university.
But Burgess had disappeared with Ruzek rather quickly and Atwater was dealing with something.
“Halstead, Upton, I need one of you to do me a favour.”
Jay and Hailey exchanged looks as they heard Platt’s voice.
“Why do I feel so afraid right now?” Jay murmured to Hailey who just shrugged, walking over to Platt’s desk.
“Hmm, okay. I need you to do a pick up from the airport.” Platt stated, passing Hailey a piece of paper with flight details on.
“Uh, is this pick up a package or a person-” Jay began but Trudy dismissed him with a glance.
“If you must know, it’s a person who is very important. Pick them up from the airport and bring them to the district.” Trudy explained, leaving Hailey to nod before she headed out.
Tumblr media
You’d gotten two texts from your godmother exactly a minute after you landed and had turned your phone on.
One was a sweet message about looking forward to see you.
The other was informing you that she had sent someone to pick you up, a Detective Upton.
It was only after you got to baggage claim that you got a description of the person picking you up.
“Just like with Officer Burgess...” you whispered to yourself, pulling along your suitcase as you moved through the airport to the exit.
///
Hailey folded her arms as she watched people exiting the airport, some walking to taxis; others being picked up by friends or family members.
She’d been sent to pick you up, but she had nothing about you minus the flight schedule that Sergeant Platt had given her and a phone number at the top.
There was also a name.
Y/n S/n.
She was tempted to ring the number as she watched the crowds of people disperse.
Until her eyes landed on the cute girl lugging a suitcase half her size behind her.
Burying the childish hope it was you she was picking up, she glanced around, looking at the other people who were waiting with luggage.
“Detective Upton?”
Hailey had to bury her excitement when she realised it was you infront of her.
“Yeah, uh, Sergeant Platt sent me to pick you up, Y/n, right?” Hailey asked, not expecting you to show her your passport.
“Sorry, but it’s still in my hand and it’s a quicker identity check, but I’m going to need to see a badge.” You replied, biting your lip at Hailey’s raised eyebrow before she pulled up her top to reveal the badge on her hip.
“Sorry that was awkward but it’s been ingrained in me since I was a child to ask for a badge and check the badge number.” You explained as you slipped into the back of Hailey’s car, waving at Jay who was sat in the passenger seat.
“Since you were a child? Wait, how do you know Sergeant Platt?” Hailey asked, voicing the question on Jay’s mind.
“Oh, she’s my godmother.”
Your nonchalant attitude would have had Hailey slamming on the breaks if you’d said that whilst she was driving.
“What?”
Hailey and Jay exclaimed, exchanging shocked looks.
///
“Do you remember how we met?”
Hailey hummed at your question, feeling the words vibrate on her collarbone. She gently brushed her hair out of the way so she could glance down at you from where you were cuddled up with her.
“Yeah, Platt sent me to the airport to pick you up. You then shocked the hell out of me and Jay when you told us Platt’s your godmother.” Hailey replied, running her fingers over your scalp.
“It was fate y’know. She usually sent Kim and Kevin. They were really funny on patrol.” You smiled, glancing up to catch Hailey’s gaze.
“I’m glad Trudy sent me to pick you up, the cute girl with the suitcase that was half your size.” Hailey giggled, earning a pout from you in response.
“Babe, I had a lot of stuff because I was moving across the state.”
“I know, I know, but it was cute.”
“You’re cute.” You retorted, leaving Hailey to wrinkle her nose up as you kissed it.
Hailey watched you in amusement before your phone began to ring.
“It’s Platt.”
“Oh crap, I’m late for dinner, I gotta go, babe, I love you!” You spoke so quickly as you hurried to grab your stuff that Hailey didn’t process the ‘I love you’ until you were already out of the house that Hailey shared with Rojas.
///
“Oh my god.” you murmured, almost dropping your fork as realisation hit you of what you had said on your run out of Hailey’s house.
“Too spicy?” Mouch asked whilst Trudy stared at you with an analytical look in her eye.
“What, no, no, it’s perfect!” You replied, shoving a forkful of food into your mouth to avoid talking any longer.
///
It was the evening after you had dinner at your godmother’s house that you broke down in tears.
You’d arrived to your empty apartment and the tears had started falling.
You wanted to tell Trudy about you being in a relationship that wasn’t toxic. You knew she was protective since the whole reason you’d moved across state was to get away from your ex.
Hailey knew about your ex. She understood you were hesistant to get into another relationship after what happened. It was that understanding that made you slowly become more comfortable around her.
You needed to talk to Hailey.
///
That next morning, you let out a breath of mental exhaustion and threw your covers off your bed.
You weren’t used to waking up alone ever since you started spending some nights in Hailey’s bed.
The shower woke you up physically as you let the warm water run down your face. Your phone was buzzing as you got out of the shower, but you ignored it, having the choice of coffee and a slice of banana bread instead.
You were in the mood to pretend you were at a cafe instead of having boring cereal or attempting to make a porridge that would turn into cold oat soup.
One glance at your phone had you realising you’d have to go to the district to for lunch tomorrow, seeing both your godmother and girlfriend there.
///
Hailey didn’t call you when she was on a case. She was worried someone would hear her talking to you and it would make you a target.
But a message asking to talk in person had her worried as she met you in a car park for a takeaway restaurant.
“Are you okay? You’ve been crying.” Hailey realised, her fingers gently running down your cheek as she noticed your puffy eyes.
“I cry when I’m stressed.” You replied, flicking a fry into your mouth as Hailey frowned.
“What’s going on, baby?”
“How do you feel about telling Trudy about our relationship?” You burst out, leaving Hailey to blink as she processed what you said.
“If you feel that you’re ready, then, yeah, I’m comfortable with telling her as long as you’re comfortable.” Hailey replied, smiling as she noticed you visibly relax, your shoulders slouching as you took a breath.
“You both asked me to come to the district for lunch tomorrow, but I was thinking we could have Trudy and Mouch over for dinner at my apartment, we can cook, maybe even bake a dessert-” you were cut off by Hailey kissing your forehead.
“You’re adorable, and yes to the dinner, we’ll have to save some dessert for Rojas though, she managed to deter Platt from finding out about us at work today.” Hailey explained, leaving you to raise an eyebrow.
“It’s a long story.” She admitted, smiling as you just offered her a fry.
///
You didn’t realise dinners could be stressful.
Until you realised how awkward it was going to be and how it could end really badly.
Hailey found you with your head on the counter, recipe book resting on your head.
“Baby? What’s going on? The hot pot is in the oven, right?” Hailey asked, glancing at said oven to see the dinner cooking.
“I didn’t realise how awkward this dinner going to be until I started looking for a dessert recipe. I am not making more banana bread, I am done with bananas this week.” You stated, leaving Hailey to chuckle as she picked up an apple from your fruit bowl.
“Well, they aren’t Fuji apples but they’ll work.” Hailey smirked at the confusion on your face before she wrapped her arms around your waist, gently moving you out of the way so she could work.
///
Hailey was in the kitchen when Trudy and Mouch arrived. You’d been pacing up and down the hallway long enough that you knew Hailey would joke about you making a hole in the floor before pulling you in for cuddles.
But you were too nervous for that.
You buzzed them upstairs, standing at the door and yanking it open when you knew they were outside of it.
“You’re jumpy. What’s going on?” Trudy enquired, frowning as you just let out a breath.
“Uh... I’m going to check on the hot pot.” You replied, smiling as Mouch instantly took interest in the smell from the kitchen.
///
“Uh, there’s something I need to discuss with you-”
“You’re in a relationship, I got that far.” Trudy stated, leaving you to pause.
“Uh, how did you-”
“You seemed happier and you kept turning up at places from the complete opposite direction from your apartment.” She deadpanned, leaving you to let out a breath.
“Yeah, I’m in a relationship, she’s in the kitchen trying to make sure the food doesn’t burn...” You explained, leaving Trudy to squint slightly.
“Rojas or Upton?”
“What- Upton? I mean, yes, Hailey...” You spluttered out, feeling your ears burning before you turned on your heel, going to check up on the food.
///
“You okay?”
“She worked out I was in a relationship and then asked if it was you or Vanessa. At this point, I’m pretty sure if we had a child, it would be Vanessa.” You mumbled into Hailey’s shoulder, feeling her shoulder vibrate with her chuckles.
“What?”
“Just reflecting on how I didn’t realise Rojas is basically our child until now.” She admitted, leaving you to sigh.
“Hot pot is about done... time to face the music!” You murmured, raising an eyebrow at Hailey as she passed you the oven gloves.
///
Mouch and Trudy were already sat at your dining table that you literally found at a flea market just to have these family dinners.
You could feel Hailey walking behind you as you placed the hot pot on the table, the two of you sitting down and avoiding Trudy’s gaze as Mouch felt just as awkward, choosing to compliment the food instead.
“Well, this hot pot looks lovely, Y/n!”
“Thank you!” You grinned, leaving Hailey to smile at your smile as Trudy glanced between the two of you.
“Shall we?” Mouch gestured to the food, noticing how nervous you looked as you nodded to starting to eat.
“So, when did you two start secretly dating?” Trudy questioned as you took a mouthful of hot pot, leaving Hailey to have to answer.
“Well...”
Cool... Bruises? (Chicago Fire)
A/N: I’m back baby (?) I had this idea a few weeks ago but last night a saw it in my notes and started writing it! Just like that... I wish that could happen to me with college stuff but nope. Anyway, I tried a new way of writing that involved not using “Y/N” and making it gender neutral! It was a hard but gratifying experience, I hope you like it!
Word count: 1546
Firehouse 51. You have been here for a month and a half and saying that it was the greatest house you ever worked in was the smallest compliment you could think of. This was your third, and hopefully last, firehouse in your ten years of being a firefighter.
 Why a firefighter? It didn't run in the family, you weren't saved by one of them, you didn't get excited by the adrenaline of the dangers that came with... No, none of that. You just lived your whole childhood in front of a firehouse and seeing them run to the trucks whenever the alarm sounded, with rain, snow or in the middle of a heatwave, to help a complete stranger who needed it was all it took for you to know that when you grew up you wanted to love your job as much as them and if in the same time you could be helping someone, better. So when you graduated from high school, you went straight to the fire academy and you loved it.
 Now 10 years later you still loved the job with all your heart and the schedule helped with your second job that it was as gratifying as the first one: a tattoo artist.
 You loved drawing your whole life, which is why your friends and family were kinda surprised that you didn't follow an art or design type of career. But nowadays it was as important for you as being a firefighter. It was your way of interacting with complete strangers without the fire or a halligan in the middle, and also an escape for your mind from bad calls or stupid discussions with your colleagues.
________
It was a completely normal Friday... except for it really wasn't. The whole past week, in and out of work, you started to notice that your coworkers (that luckily you can also call your friends) were acting strange towards you. At first not everyone was like this, if you don't remember wrong the first you noticed acting like this was Cruz, but now the whole shift was starting to whisper around you, stared at you worriedly and asking you things like "how are you been lately?" or "everything okay at home?".
 'Maybe they're joking with me because I'm a newbie', you thought, although is kinda strange because you been with them for almost two months... Still, you decided to ignore it but if it did get worse you will intervene.
 After the everyday reunion with the chief all went straight to have breakfast but you needed a quick detour to get your vitamins from your locker. Entering the common room you went straight to get a glass of water, popped your vitamins in your mouth and grabbed a plate for your breakfast.
 "What'd you take?" Herrmann asked beside you.
 "Vicodin. You can all call me Dr. House now" you joked and faked a limp in your way to the table. You knew it was a lame joke but you also knew that Brett and Capp would have laughed at that, so when you looked up from the plate and saw everyone staring at you with long and saddened faces you couldn't take it anymore.
 "Okay, what is going on with all you?", you asked standing up from the table and moving to the door so you would have a view of everyone, "did I do something to bother you guys?".
 Immediately a chorus of "no", "not your fault", "hey don't blame yourself" invaded the room and surprisedly were cut off by chief Boden.
 "You did nothing wrong kid, but it has come to my attention that some of your coworkers are worried about your well-being, and I know you still feel like the new face here and maybe you can't open up to us yet, but we are here for you when you are ready" he said looking at you with kind eyes.
 "Uh" you stared at everyone for a few seconds, searching for words to describe  how you felt right now. "I don't want to be disrespectful to you chief or anyone but... What the hell are you talking about?".
 "Come on, Cruz saw them when you were changing in the locker room" chastised Severide while frowning at you.
 "Saw what?" you questioned, getting confused more and more.
 "The bruises!" Joe yelped, "I saw a big ass bruise in your left leg. You can stop lying now".
 "Bruises? Wha-" that's when you realized what was this about. Oh boy... "It's not a bruise-".
 "Nah don't come at me with this crap" Herrmann halt you, "you didn't fall nor got hit by anything in the lasts two weeks and Cruz said those looked like a big deal so start talking".
 "Hey you don't go threatening people who need help" snapped Brett at the grey haired man.
 "Sylvie is right, is a sensitive matter that needs sensitive-" stated Casey before being cut off by the comments of everyone present in the room.
 "Guys, really is not what you think of" you protested but by now the discussion of treating the "problem" with a delicate or hard hand was swallowing your voice completely.
 Then a crazy idea came to you and you thought 'what the hell, this is already out of my control'. You felt through your uniform pants and silently cheered and thanked your past you for putting your biker shorts underneath.
 Big inhale and...
 "HEY!!" you shouted with all your lung capacity, that thankfully managed to get everyone quiet.
 "It's not a bruise and-" you started but stopped to send a threatening look towards Mouch who was about to interrupt, "AND I can prove it". Finished that sentence you started to unbuckle your belt even if you could feel their eyes, many many eyes, on you.
 "What are you..." Stella trailed off with a confused chuckle.
 "I am not bruised" you stated just before pulling your pants downand waiting quietly for the reactions. Every single one was amazing to see, the pants down technique was totally worth it.
 "Goddammit Joe you don't know the difference between a bruise and a tattoo?!" roared Herrmann looking at the firefighter in question.
 "H-how am I supposed to know?!! Literally the whole leg is tattooed and I just saw a glimpse of it in the locker room!" Joe excused himself while pointing at your leg.
 "You can put your pants back on" sighed the Chief and left the room.
___________
 "Those are some nice tattoos" commented Matt, now all sit down eating breakfast.
 "Thank you, I designed all myself but just tattooed the parts in my leg. The thigh section was done by a colleague" you beamed at him. "I'm really proud of it".
 "Wait, are you a tattoo artist? That is so cool" marveled Brett. "For how long? Do you work of it?".
 "Well I started when I got out of the academy, so around 10 years. And yes, a friend and I have a little tattoo shop in Little Village" you informed them.
 "How come we never knew about this? You been here for a month and a half!" Stella sputtered while shaking her head.
 "When I came here you guys where dealing with a wannabe commissioner. I guess being under a microscope didn't leave us much time to socialize and when the situation passed we had lived together some things that made us become closer, even if we didn't know each other fully" you expressed. "Like for real, I never thought that a firehouse family could be this strong and attentive of your own, but today's misunderstanding was the cherry on the top. You truly are amazing ".
_________
 A few calls through the day went past and before they noticed the shift had ended and they were going straight to Molly's to share with their fellow first responders the now top 1 story from firehouse 51: you minus pants.
 You were thrilled. Yeah.
 "Yes, keep laughing. At least I'm going to be a famous legend in the 51" you rolled your eyes at the people in the table, them being Brett, Kidd, Severide and 21st precinct boys Jay Halstead, Kevin Atwater and Adam Ruzek.
 "For pulling your pants down?" asked Atwater chuckling with his partners, receiving a middle finger from your part.
 "Hey, can we get discounts in your tattoo house now or do I have to arrest you for exhibitionism?" Jay asked you.
 "What, you want a tattoo of Captain America's ass, soldier boy?" you smirked at him, "and if you don't stop laughing I'll charge you with a 10% plus".
 "Copy that", they laughed and keep joking around for about an hour before you stood up.
 "Okay ladies and gents, is time for me to go, I have an early client tomorrow" you stated while stretching your arms. "Talk to you later, bye".
  A chorus of soft "bye" and "good night" were heard, but when you were going towards the front door a booming voice broke through.
 "Hey, I didn't get to see that famous tattoo, could you do that pant trick here?" Adam yelled, trying poorly to hide a smile.
 You froze for a second, slowly turned to him with a smirk in your face and in your cockiest voice ever you answered him.
 "You wish".
Happy Birthday
(Kevin Atwater x Reader)
Tumblr media
Pairings: Kevin Atwater x Reader, Adam Ruzek x Kim Burgess
“Come on girl, we’re gonna be late.” Kevin scolded as he unlocked and walked through the front door.
“Five more minutes!”
Having just finished applying lipstick, you stood in front of the mirror in your bedroom agonizing over which pair of earrings to wear.
“You don’t even have your shoes on.” Kevin entered the room, with your heels in hand, hoping to speed things along, but he was instantly staggered by the sight of his gorgeous fiance. “Well damn…” Dropping the shoes and walking towards you, forgetting all about his previous rushed state. You playfully dodge him, stooping to adjust and step into the heels he so carelessly discarded on the floor. Unrelenting, Kevin comes up behind you, arms wrapped around your waist and kissing your neck as you walk into the living room.
Finally turning around to face him, you permit him to one passionate kiss before snapping back to reality. With both hands on his chest to keep him at bay, “Kevin Atwater...stop it. Adam is going to kill you if you’re late to this dinner.
Stepping back for a moment to take you in, “I think he’ll understand.”
You burst out laughing and pushed him away, grabbing your clutch and jacket off the couch. It was never easy for you to resist Kevin, especially when he looked and smelled this good, hell, it was almost impossible. But, tonight was special for your friends and you had to be there for them.
Adam and Kim had been through a LOT over the last year and a half. It took plenty of late night gab sessions between you and Kim and tons of games of pool between Kev and Adam for the two of them to realize they were simply made for each other. Tonight, Adam just wanted to do something special for his girl with the people closest to them there to celebrate.
____
You and Kevin walked into the private room of the restaurant arm in arm to find Adam pacing back and forth.
“Ruz, you good? Cuz you don’t look too good man.”
Lightly hitting his arm as you walk over to greet Adam, “Kev leave him alone.”
Standing in front of Adam, you place your hands on his shoulders in an effort to calm him down. “Tonight will be great. Everything looks amazing.”
Kissing you on the cheek, “Thank you (Y/N). You look beautiful by the way.”
“Thanks sweetie.”
Kevin mumbles from across the room, “Yeah, we almost didn’t make it here dawg.”
You dart a glaring look at him.
“What was that man?”
“Ignore him.” You remove your jacket and assess the room to see if there’s anything you can prep before your best friend arrives.
______
The room is now filled with laughter and all of the people Kim loves. Members of Intelligence, a select few from 51, Adam’s dad, even Kim’s sister flew in.
After dinner, a waitress enters the room with a glowing birthday cake.
Adam clinks his beer bottle and stands to get everyone’s attention. Kim looks up at him adoringly, yet embarrassed, as she never knows what will fly out of his mouth.
“Hey! Everyone…”
Kevin whistles to get the room quiet for his brother as Kim removes the beer bottle from his hand, replacing it with a wine glass. The room erupts in laughter.
“Thank you darling. Ok, seriously. I just want to thank all of you for being here tonight to celebrate this beautiful woman’s birthday. All of you know that she’s been through a hell of a lot, but she’s kept going. She’s strong, she’s kind, she’s a badass...and I love her. So, everyone please raise a glass to my girl, Kimberly Burgess.”
Everyone in the room chimes in, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM!!”
Adam leans down to plant a kiss on Kim’s lips, as you and Kevin look on like proud parents, finally seeing your children happy.
______
The room cleared out a bit as everyone said their final goodbyes. After you joyfully see Kim off with Adam, her knight in shining armor, you walk back into the room and notice Kevin, Hank and Jay in the corner. Having been with Kevin for a few years now, you knew what those faces meant. Your man was amazing at his job, it’s one of the many reasons why you fell in love, but the knot in your stomach always returned when you knew it was time for him to switch into that mode.
Further proving your theory, you overheard Voight say, “If we don’t grab this prick tonight he’s gonna blow town. We gotta move on this.”
You gathered your things and stood next to Trudy and Mouch. Hank and Jay exited the room as Kevin turned to you and walked over with an apologetic look on his face. Before he could get out one word, Platt interjected, “Don’t worry Kevin, we can take her home.”
Mouch chimed in to reassure him, “Yeah, I wanted to pass along my secret pasta recipe to (Y/N) anyway, since Trudy refuses to cook with me.” You both chuckled, knowing that that statement landed Mouch in hot water. Yanking Mouch’s ear, Trudy walked out the door, “He's gonna get the car and we’ll meet you outside (Y/N).”
“(Y/N)...I know I’m always working. I really wanted to be the one to take that dress off of you tonight. I’m sorry baby.”
“It’s ok, really. Go do what you have to do.”
Hailey reentered the room, “Hey Kev, can I roll with you back to the district? Voight and Jay went ahead.”
“I gotchu.”
Kevin held your hand as the three of you walked towards the door. The valet drove up in Kevin’s car...Hailey hopped in.
You smiled and released Kevin’s hand. “Go. By the time you get home I’ll have mastered a new recipe.”
You always did your best to put Kevin’s mind at ease before any assignment. His job was grueling, and being the woman by his side, you knew that fear for his safety came with the territory. You also knew that he couldn’t have any distractions when he was out there with his team, so hearing Randall run his mouth for 30 minutes about how he was a Master Chef was a small price to pay to ensure their safety.
Kevin planted a kiss on your forehead and walked towards the driver's side door, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
_________
The light of the dawn was about to make its appearance as Kevin unlocked the front door to the loft. He closes it lightly behind him entering the living room to find you asleep on the couch, still in your dress. He locks his gun in the closet safe, puts his keys down on the coffee table and stands there for a moment taking you in. After adjusting the blanket over you, he joins you on the couch. Still half asleep, you turn your body to face him, now nestled comfortably in his arms.
“Hi..”
“I see you still have on the dress.”
“Uh huh...just for you.” Still groggy, you look up at him, gently touching his face, willing the stress of his night to melt away. “You ok?”
He moves in closer, holding you just a little bit tighter...kissing you slowly.
“Now, I’m perfect. Go back to sleep.”
Trudy Platt x Niece!Reader Mom
A/N: I don’t have advanced medical knowledge so there may be inaccuracies in this fic
written by @anotheronechicagobog
Tumblr media
You had been born going into withdrawal. You couldn’t remember it, thankfully, but your aunt Trudy said it was absolute hell to watch you go through it. She would always get a dark look on her face and clench her fists when she was reminded of what your childhood had been like. She didn’t get custody of you until you were twelve, but it didn’t matter, she’d been taking care of you since you were a baby so to you her officially getting custody meant that your mom couldn’t neglect or use you as a bargaining chip for drug money.
When you were eight years old your class was making gifts for Mother’s Day. You didn’t feel embarrassed or angry or anything anywhere remotely negative, you were happy. Excited. You were using tissue paper, pipe cleaners, glitter, and glue to make a portrait of you and your aunt Trudy. Your giddiness was bubbling up and making you jumpy. You made sure to use lots of blue  because it’s her favourite colour. You were just putting on the last finishing touches, sprinkling silver glitter over the paper, when your teacher came over with a confused look on her face. “Y/N, I thought your mom was a waitress, not a detective.”
“She isn’t. My aunt Trudy is a detective and a super cool one too. She works in robbery homicide and brings my drawings to work with her. The other detectives are super nice and sometimes when they have barbecues I get to-“
“Y/N, these are supposed to be for Mother’s Day. Not Aunt’s Day.”
“But I-“
“Y/N, you have to know why this isn’t okay. Because of your behaviour you can’t go to recess. I really hope you take this time to think about what you’ve done.” Mrs. Smith made a move to grab your art but you grabbed it first. She snapped and grabbed your arms trying to get you to let go, but it was really rough and she started seething. You screamed at the top of your lungs, tears already pouring down your face. You squirmed and kicked, determined to keep your art out of the trash can your teacher seemed to reserve for art she didn’t approve of. Mrs. Smith grabbed your hair and started to bang your side against your desk when a commanding voice stabbed fear into the heart of your bitch teacher and happiness into you. “Just WHAT do you think you are doing to my niece?”
That was just one of many moments when your aunt saved you. Later on in life, she taught you self defence skills and gave you three types of pepper spray and two tasers. Although you never vocalized it, you viewed her as your mom. You called her ‘mom’ in your head every time you thought about her and it hurt sometimes not being able to say it out loud. She taught you everything you know, life skills, math, science, labour skills, everything. She is the entire reason you are who you are. She guided you, supported you, reamed you out when you fucked up, and clapped louder than anyone else when you accomplished wonders. She made you swell up in pride. She is the reason you never felt undervalued or neglected, because without her intervention you would have most definitely stumbled out of a broken home. She was and is your mom, and no one could make you doubt it.
Your heartbeat was pounding in your ears and your breathing was panicked but you couldn’t stop it. You’d been shot and the burning bleeding feeling was occupying all your available thoughts. You were aware that people were speaking to you, but you couldn’t focus on any of it. “Y/N Platt. Y/N Platt.” The only thing you were aware of was that your name was important. That’s how they find your mom. That’s how they contact her. Call her.
Voices were buzzing around you mixing and blurring together with mechanical sounds. You were scared and confused out of your mind. You couldn’t help it. You were in so much flaring burning pain and then suddenly you weren’t. But it wasn’t like you suddenly started feeling better, you just stopped feeling physical sensations. You didn’t  even know you were crying until you started tasting the tears in your mouth. “I want my mom. I need my mom. Where’s my mom?” The muffled voices were getting louder, you thought you could hear your name muffled and desperate before everything faded into nothingness.
When you regained consciousness you were welcome with the sight of fiery red hair. Halstead. Wait... Jay or Will? Shit which one is the doctor? So you definitely have a concussion. “My mom. Call my mom. I need my mom.” You wanted her holding your hand and telling you everything was going to be okay and to just hold on. “We weren’t able to get a hold of her, but we were able to contact your aunt Trudy.”
“Y/N, dear, calm down. I’m trying to find your mom but it’s been years since we talked, I don’t know anything about her anymore, no contact info.” She was there. On the chair next to you. Your mom was there. She came. “Mom, you’re here.” You opened your arms, aching for a hug. She was a little shocked, but she quickly stood up and leaned into your arms, gently wrapping hers around you while yours gripped onto her Sergeant’s uniform for dear life.  Her shoulder length grey hair hovered near your face, and you’d never been happier to see Trudy Platt’s signature haircut in your life. “I love you mom.”
—————————————
You weren’t groggy this time. You woke up slowly and hesitantly. You scanned the room, taking into view the machines you’re hooked up to, Randall’s CFD jacket was hanging on the back of an empty chair, and aunt Trudy asleep. She was sitting in one of the dreadful hospital chairs but her head and shoulders were laying on the bed beside you. She looked stressed. Her brows were furrowed and her lips were pressed into such a fine line that they were turned white. There were clumps of hair strands fallen across her face. Despite the weight you felt your arm under you focussed all of your strength on using the tips of your fingers to move the hair out of her face. She twitched but otherwise didn’t move.
“Oh thank god.” You looked up and saw Randall making his way to the side of your bed without your mom, sorry, aunt. “How’re you feeling kiddo?”
“Like I was a punching bag for the hulk.”
“Ouch.”
“Yeah. So, what happened?” Randall hesitated, his eyes drifted over to the sleeping woman who held such a strong position in both of your lives, he looked at you cautiously. “You were shot. Three times. One hit you in the shoulder and got caught in the bone. The second nicked your left lung and exited your body. The third ricocheted off your collar bone and into your liver. They had to take you into surgery to repair you lung and liver and remove the bullets. There was a lot of bleeding in your liver and they almost lost you a couple of times on the table.”
“Oh...”
“That’s not all... Look I don’t know the whole story with you and your mom. But when you came in you were practically screaming for her, and after the surgery you woke up a couple times and it was pretty clear you were out of it, you started reaching for Trudy and asking for your mom. We’ve all been trying to call her but nobody’s seen hide or hair of her in five years. Trudy is... a little upset that you were calling for your mom. I don’t really-“
“Crap.”
“Y/N I just wanted you to know why Trudy is sad and your mom isn’t here-“
“My mom IS here Randy. I... I’ve never said this out loud but... I have always thought of aunt Trudy as my mom. My...  biological mother was irresponsible and negligent at best and sporadic and abusive at worst. Aunt Trudy raised me. She read me stories before bed, taught me to ride a bike, told me to eat my vegetables, she helped me with my homework, taught me to defend myself... She is my mom. I’ve always thought of her as my mom. I call her ‘mom’ in my head. The only reason I’ve never actually called her that is people, including her, told me to call her aunt. I... How sad is she feeling? What do I do? I love her so much.” Tears were drifting down your cheeks and you could see Randall’s eyes misting over as well. He carefully grabbed your hand as nurse Sexton made her way into your room to check on you. “I think you should tell her.” His voice was so confident and kind, you knew he was right. “Yeah. I’m going to tell her.” Excitement bubbled up as you squeezed his hand in return.
———————————-
Randall winked as he left to go get some food from a local restaurant for the three of you. “Do you want some more water Y/N?”
“No thanks, there’s actually something I want to talk to you about.”
“Oh... Yeah. About your mom, right?” She looked terrified. She was the strongest woman alive and she sat before you almost shaking in her seat. You held out your hand for her to grab. Once her hand was in yours you smiled and entwined your fingers with hers. “When I was asking for my mom. I wasn’t asking for the woman who gave birth to me. I was asking for you. You are my mom. You have raised and cared for me my whole life. I still remember when I tried making you something for Mother’s Day at school and my teacher lost her mind. She wasn’t the first or last teacher I had that thought I shouldn’t be doing that, but that was the time you swooped in. I have always felt protected and safe because of you. Even as I got older, it just changed from knowing that you were always watching and waiting to swoop in to knowing that you trusted me to take care of myself and come to you when I need you. And I just... I have always wanted to make you proud of me. You are the person I look up to, the person who’s opinion I value the most. I have called you my mom in my head my whole life, I guess when I got shot my filters were too... But my point is, you are who I was asking for, you are who I wanted and needed here.”
You looked away from your hands, directly into her eyes. “You are my mom.” She burst into tears and dove forward to hug you as gently as possible. You clung to her desperately, terrified that she would reject your feelings, reject you. She let go of you and weaselled out of your grasp. She stroked your face lovingly and kissed the top of your forehead. “I am so proud to be your mom Y/N Platt, I love you so much, now please get some rest. You look exhausted and I’ve had enough scares from you to last I lifetime.” You felt unsure, not wanting to essentially leave her alone after allowing herself to be vulnerable. “I’m going to be here when you wake up. It would take several dozen armies to remove me. Go to sleep sweetheart.” You sighed and started to drift off, more at peace with the world than you have been in years.
Uh oh, Mouch has really snapped at this temporary Lt. Like for real. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so incensed. I guess superlatives are Mouch’s kryptonite.
