hey guys/gals/etc., i need your help finding good songs!

i'm looking to fill my playlist with some nice tunes from around the world: specifically, from the following countries/cultures

cuba

spain, france, the basque

morocco, northern africa in general

palestine

vietnam, cambodia, laos, the hmong (in particular, i'm looking for their best song poetry!)

and japan

i'm tied to many of these places through family and cultural heritage, and i want to broaden my horizons a bit and engage more with my roots. i figured that making an attempt to reach out to people from these places and backgrounds could help me find some good music! the only exception to this would be palestine, though. i don't have any palestinian background, but i want to enjoy their music too! if any of you have recommendations or favorite songs, please share! oh, and i'm not picky about genres, either. i'll listen to every suggestion!

edit: also sorry if i didn't tag some of the last few countries on this post i ran out of room😔

Tangier is a city in northwestern Morocco. It is on the Maghreb coast at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, when the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel. Many civilizations and cultures have influenced the history of Tangier, starting from before the 10th century BCE. Between the period of being a strategic Berber town and then a Phoenician trading center to the independence era around the 1950s, Tangier was a nexus for many cultures.

#fashion #badgley mischka #spring 2023 #ready-to-wear #scopophobia #this collection was inspired by how colorful morocco is when they visited #this seems like a good time to revisit my designer inspo policy!#if a designer is inspired by another country/culture and it's something broad like 'i liked the colors!' i think that's okay #but if it's something specific like 'i like the tiles in moroccan mosques so i'm going to turn them into a pattern and use it in dresses'#that feels appropriative to me #some designers (and i'm thinking of say maria chiuri at dior) do have specific inspos but will work in combination with people from the coun #country/culture in ways that feel more like an appreciation and which often benefits artists/designers/artisans #and in that case i will sometimes feel okay posting the collection #but if the designer's manifesto or actual collection feels at all appropriative or (sometimes blatantly!!) racist they don't show up here #and some designers are perma-banned from this tumblr for racism #all that said if i ever post a collection like this with this kind of explanation of why i thought it was okay #and someone reaches out to say it isn't #i will issue a correction and take the post down!#i am totally open to being wrong #anyway sorry badgley and mischka #didn't mean to make an example of you OR DID I #go back to designing dog clothes to go with your actual clothes

Sorry to the Swiss, but it’s a relief to see that Korea didn’t get knocked out with the biggest defeat in the Round of 16 lkdjflajfa. If only we went against each other and Portugal had Brazil, but oh well.

#as for spain–morocco...i unfortunately still care about spain so i was bummed #but i love seeing small and/or non-european countries make it and spain vs. morocco is even spicier because of their history #so i was thrilled for them! fully deserved! they played fabulously and that atmosphere was electric #everything was on their side. you could feel it in the air #really happy for them and hoping they continue to advance #kudos to them for their palestine flags (lol forever at fifa trying to make this a non-political event as possible #as if that's even possible...#and it turned out to be one of the most political with people unashamedly being demonstrative with their statements and gestures)#the narrative re: moroccan players who grew up in spain to immigrant families making it and representing morocco :') beautiful #as for spain's tactics...just reminded me of the times i got frustrated with lucho when he was at barca #why did he spend so much time putting nico and ansu on?! WHY stick so stubbornly to a strategy that isn't working?#as soon as he put nico on he ran in deep which broke up the great moroccan defense and it changed things up #instead of them continuing to pass horizontally or backwards 10000 times #they were breaking the wrong records with their passes and penalties god. embarrassing. though i suppose this is a return to form #2008–2012 were the golden years but spain always choked before then! this is on brand for them #they do have an extremely young squad though so with experience they'll become even more formidable #but even from the euros it was clear that they didn't gel well. not in the way that other NTs flop or crumble due to infighting #because they like each other a lot and there are fantastic players. it's just that there are some players that don't belong #or are missing altogether. great for spain to do a death by 1000 passes but who CARES #if you don't have anyone to pass to and my god spain's lack of an excellent forward is glaring #i wanted him to make thiago integral to the team but at the same time having a stacked midfield doesn't matter #if you can't FINISH
