#monokuma's motive series

Note
Hihi!! I loved your writing for the prompt where the monokuma makes s/o the target of the killing game. Can you perhaps use the same prompt but for the THH cast please? ♡
I sure can :3
This is my 666th post hehe >:3
Monokuma's Motive - THH Edition
It had been a good while since the last motives were handed out.
You did a good job of keeping the peace and preventing any killings, so you assumed Monokuma had given up.
Oh boy, were you wrong.
Monokuma's announcement rang out through the school, and it filled you with anxiety. You take a deep breath in and exit your dorm.
Your significant other meets you in the hallway, with the same anxiety on your face.
"Hey. You ready?"
You nod at them. "Yeah."
They take your hand and together, you make your way to the gym.
Monokuma sprang out from behind the podium.
"Hey, hey, hey! Guess who's got a surprise for all of you? A brand new motive, this time with a twist!"
Oh no.
"So, there haven't been any blackeneds in a while... And somehow, none of my motives have worked! Threats, bribes, nothin'! And it's all because of...!"
Monokuma gave you an angry glare, his forehead reddening. But he calmed down quickly, and resumed with your conversation. Nobody seemed to notice, except for you. And your significant other, as they gave you a look of concern.
"Point is, the new motive I have is different. This time, there's only one person you can kill. Any other kills don't count, and will send you right to the crapper!"
You noticed your classmates stiffening. So Monokuma had a target in mind. And it could have been anyone. You tighten your grip on your significant other's hand, and they do the same, waiting anxiously for Monokuma to reveal the target.
"From now on, the only person you can kill is (Name)!"
He called out, pointing at you.
All eyes were on you now.
Of course. You're the one who had been keeping the peace the whole time. You'd be lying if you said you didn't see it coming.
Makoto Naegi
"What?! You can't do that!!"
"Sure can! Them's the rules!"
Because you had been keeping the peace, you had to go
But Makoto refused to allow it
He already lost Sayaka, so he'd be damned if he's losing you too
He keeps an eye on you whenever he can
Sleepovers every night, and follows you wherever you go
He is INCREDIBLY anxious, and you can see it, no matter how much he tries to hide it
He might need some comforting, and he'll comfort you too
He would never let anyone kill you
Byakuya Togami
"What?! How dare you choose (Name)? You are absolutely despicable."
He is MAD
The second the meeting is over, he's grabbing your hand and dragging you to his room
He paces around the room ranting angrily while you sit on the bed, feeling anxious
Then he notices your demeanor and calms himself down
He'll sit beside you on the bed and hold your hand, and hug you if you want
He'll try not to be so angry around you if it makes you anxious
After that, he'll be SUPER overprotective
He'll snap at anyone who even goes near you
He's going with you anywhere you go
No more roaming around by yourself
If anyone's gonna kill you, it's gonna be Toko/Genocider
Overall, pretty pissed about the whole thing
He's hellbent on making sure you two survive the whole thing together
Chihiro Fujisaki
"Wh-What? Why would you choose (Name)...? They didn't do anything wrong..."
Starts tearing up right then and there
When you go back to the dorms, he immediately latches onto you and starts bawling
Poor baby doesn't wanna lose you🥺
He'll probably end up crying himself to sleep
And starting next morning, this boi will never leave you alone
He'll hug your arm while you walk together
The anxiety is real with this one
He desperately wants to get stronger so he can protect you, so he considers working out with Mondo
Then he remembers that he doesn't want to leave you alone and changes his mind
But you're friends with Mondo, so he'll protect the both of you
Chihiro is v anxious, and he never wants to lose you
Leon Kuwata
"That's bullshit! You can't just choose (Name) randomly!"
STUPIDSTUPIDSTUPID-
Oh it wasn't random
Monokuma did this on purpose
And Leon is not having it
He is PISSED
Like Byakuya, he'll be like this until he sees that you're anxious, then he'll stop to comfort you
After that, he is hella clingy and protective
He'll yell at anyone who gets too close
He may be angry, but at night, he'll break down in front of you
He tries to act strong for you, but he isn't fooling anyone
But he refuses to let anyone kill you
Kiyotaka Ishimaru
"What?! (Name) is the target!? You can't do that, you... You bastard!"
When Taka swears, you know he's for real
This boy is out-of-this-world terrified
He tries to keep you in your room as much as he can, and he'll bring you food and stuff
Then he'll immediately come back to you
He doesn't want you to be out in the open, potentially getting killed
"(Name), I understand you're bored, but you must stay in this room! It-It's for your own good!"
If you persist, he'll reluctantly let you leave the dorm, but only if he can go with you
He doesn't want to believe you might be killed, but he still wants to spend every moment with you while he can
Mondo Owada
"You fuckin' piece of shit! I'll kill you!"
You have to hold him back from breaking the bear in half
We don't want a repeat of when he almost got exploded
So you return to the dorms, and he's trying his best to hold in his anger
Then he lets out an angry sigh before sitting with you on the bed and sweeping you into his arms and holding you like a teddy bear
Part of it's to comfort you, another part is for him
After that, he's following you everywhere, acting like a pissed off bodyguard
If anyone even looks at you, he's glaring at them while cracking his knuckles
He ain't never leaving you alone
He can't even trust Taka or Chihiro with you
Beneath his angry exterior, he's horrified of losing you like he did his brother
And he'll do whatever it takes to make sure you survive
Even if he has to stand in for you...
Yasuhiro Hagakure
"What?! For serious?! Why would you pick (Name)?! That's terrible..."
He's freaking out
Then you go back to the dorms and he paces around, rambling about predicting this
Then he sees that you might be anxious and hugs you
He's determined to make sure nothing happens to you
So he follows you around, paranoid and anxious
He becomes very suspicious of the others, not trusting them to be anywhere near you
He knows that he's powerless to stop Monokuma, but he's still gonna protect you until the very end
Hifumi Yamada
"WHAAAAAAT?!"
That's it
He's just stunned
And a little angry
He has no idea what he can do, but no way in hell is he gonna let you die
So like the others, he follows you around and refuses to leave you alone
If anyone tries to go near you, particularly Taka, he won't be happy
You're probably anxious to be in this kind of situation, so he draws wholesome and funny mangas in an attempt to lift your spirits
He's terrified, and might need some comforting
Kyoko Kirigiri
"What? (Name)? Why would you choose them?"
For a second, you swore you saw her composure waver
But the moment passed quickly, and now she's glaring daggers at Monokuma
She knew exactly why he chose you
Like her, you were viewed as a threat, and Monokuma wanted to eliminate you
But like hell is she gonna let that happen
After that, she tightly grips your hand and pulls you back to the dorms
She just stiffly stands in front of the door, her back turned to you
But then you approach her, and she turns to you
You open your arms for a hug and she accepts it, gripping you like you'll disappear any minute
After that, she'll be with you at all times, with no exception
She tries to hide her terror, but one of these days, she might end up shedding a couple of tears
Make no mistake though
She'll be there for you like you are for her
And above all, she will protect you
You're the best thing to ever happen to her, and she refuses to let Monokuma take you away from her
Toko Fukawa/Genocide Jack
"Wh-Wh-What?! H-How d-dare you t-target them?!"
Gets fired up, then takes your hand and drags you off the second the meeting is over
The second you enter your room, Genocide Jack pops out
And oh boy, she is not happy
"What?! How dare that bitch ass bear target my master?!"
She looks angry, then a moment later, her energetic and sporadic demeanor completely drops
She's actually really scared
Then she leaps onto you, and begs you not to leave her
Starts shaking and panicking, and you'll have to calm her down
Then she falls asleep on you
Next morning, she switches back to Toko
She clings onto your arm all day, and sends pointed insults to anyone who rubs her the wrong way
She doesn't trust anyone
Especially not Byakuya
She doesn't even bother attending breakfast meetings
She just wants to stay in with you
And whenever Genocide Jack is out, ain't nobody wanna mess with her
They come up with a system; Genocide Jill stays with you outside the dorm room, Toko stays in
Cuddle sessions every night
Both of them are highly anxious and afraid of losing you, and they need some comforting
It's helpful to you as well
These two are terrified of you dying, but they're never gonna let it happen
Not if they can help it
Aoi Asahina
"What?! You can't just pick (Name) out of nowhere!"
Oh it wasn't out of nowhere
Monokuma knows exactly why he picked you
Hina is so angry, she's crying
And when you return to the dorms, she leaps into your arms and breaks down
Poor swimmer girl is hella scared
After that, she'll hold your hand and refuse to leave your side
Being Hina's s/o means being friends with Sakura, and she'll protect the both of you
Hina can't help but feel anxious about it tho
She doesn't trust the others around you, and she'll give them a few words if they get too close to you
She's afraid of the future and what might happen, but she's not gonna let you die
Sayaka Maizono
"What?! Why (Name)?! They don't deserve to die!"
She's way more scared than you are, honestly
Once you leave the gym, she leaps into your arms and starts crying
"P-Please... Don't leave me..."
Like she did with Makoto, but much more genuine
This situation really messes her up, actually
Sayaka feels that she may lose you at any moment
She doesn't trust anyone near you
If anyone killed you, she'd probably kill them
But she'll do whatever she must to make sure it doesn't get to that point
Celeste Ludenburg
"What...? HOW FUCKING DARE YOU CHOOSE MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER AS A TARGET IN YOUR SICK LITTLE GAME?!"
Loses her composure right then and there
She doesn't show it, but she's terrified
But she's not gonna let nobody touch you
Given her exterior, most of the others know damn well not to mess with her
Especially Hifumi
And if anyone dares to get too close, Angry Celeste™️ will be unleashed unto their poor selves
Remember the teacup she broke in Chapter Two?
That might just be what happens to their limbs if they mess with you
Again, underneath all this, she's actually really scared
There may be some nights where she breaks down and just needs to know that you're there
Still, she's not letting anyone near you
Sakura Ogami
"Bastard! How dare you paint a target on my significant other's back?!"
She wants to punch Monokuma's lights out SO badly, but she knows better
Instead, she just holds you close to her like a teddy bear in her dorm room
You can feel her fear in how tightly she holds you
You're also sure you feel her shake a tiny bit
Once you calm her down, she just wants to lay down and sleep, holding you close to her like you'll be gone the second she lets you go
And in the morning, she acts as your bodyguard
She'll threaten anyone who may be a threat to you
And when she can, she stays in her dorm with you, not wanting to take any risks
At some point, she considers taking her own life to pass by the motive
Then she realizes that Monokuma would probably execute you in her place, which quickly throws her idea out the window
She feels powerless, but she'll be damned if she's gonna let you die at the hands of anyone
Especially the mastermind
Mukuro Ikusaba
"What...?"
She's so shocked, her "Junko Enoshima" facade completely drops
You already knew her secret, and that's probably why Junko needed you gone
But no way is Mukuro allowing that
She starts panicking the second you enter her dorm, and then you calm her down and go to sleep together
The next morning, she goes to talk with her sister
Junko already knew everything
She didn't just want to remove you from the killing game because you knew too much, but to also give her sister despair
Words cannot describe the pure, boiling anger she's feeling
Her love for her sister turned to complete hatred
Now she knows where her loyalties lie
She doesn't tell you, but she has plans to kill her sister
She pretends that you mean nothing to her, as to not make Junko suspicious
But that night, while you slept, she headed off to Junko's hideout with a weapon hidden on her
Junko had gone too far, and now it's time for this to come to an end
I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you guys will want one for V3 as well😅Once requests are back open, be sure to remind me if you want it!

Dangantober Ghost Photo breakdown

Dangantober Ghost Photos with some little behind the scenes ghost shenanigans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they may be ghosts for a while....
Full breakdown of each character below ↓ MAJOR DANGAN SPOILERS
The main idea was inspired by Sayaka, the avoidable tragedy of her death, and the vengeance that allowed her to name her killer from 'beyond the grave'
Each ghost is stuck, or trapped in some sort of loop, compelled to act according to certain 'rules', much like how they lived under monokuma within the Killing Game. Each rule has some connection to a ghost's talent, aspect of their life, or death. Reminding them of their regrets in a fashion that wouldn't allow them to pass on.
Sayaka "Don’t swap the dormitory name plates." Her fate in the game was a self-fulfilling prophecy. She was so scared of being trapped in the school, that she trapped herself. It seemed like a perfect stimulus for a ghost, going over the events of her death again and again, but never being able to break out of the cycle. She always leaves behind the message, as she'll never know if Makoto understood her regrets.
Mukuro "Don’t pick a fight in the gym." Mukuro's haunting is based entirely on how her death was a result of picking a fight with monokuma, and how she loses everything. Her lingering grudge creates an animalistic aggressive atmosphere like a Fenrir Wolf, her stoic soldier persona lost as she lashes out at people who remind her of her failure. She hides herself like she did in life, only visible in reflections as Junko's shadow - and will try stab you in the back, playing out her own betrayal.
Leon "Don’t play with baseballs near the hallway" It seemed like the worst fate for Leon would be being stuck, static in his unwanted role as The Ultimate Baseball Star. As with his murder, he couldn't help himself, but resorted back to those skills to dispose of evidence. His animosity making the game almost unplayable for everyone else, he releases all his frustrations toward himself, almost zombie like, at a scapegoat: baseball.
Chihiro "Don’t enter the locker rooms at night" Chihiro's murder and trial was mostly co-opted by red-herrings, like Genocide Jack and the location of the murder. So the idea is that the story got warped by a series of Chinese whispers; Genocide Jack miscast as a 'bloody Mary' style urban legend, Chihiro a forgotten footnote. Based on how Hina thought Alter Ego was actually Chihiro's ghost; I thought the haunting could work more like a séance or a ouija board; asking Chihiro questions beyond the veil much like how AlterEgo helped the class, Chihiro is only trying to help.
Mondo "Don’t eat the butter in the cafeteria" I REACHED for Mondo, I know! but he got turned into BUTTER! I wanted to incorporate his execution with his motive to murder, so his ghost is based on Calabar beans, supposedly able to sort the guilty and the innocent. If you swallow without worry the poison might not spread, but if you eat cautiously and chew; you'll die. He appears slowly, enough that you can ignore him, the same why you might ignore your guilty conscience. He may be a hypocrite, but in a way he's trying to save you from his own fate.
Taka "Don’t pass notes in the classroom" Not unlike Sayaka, it's another case of replaying actions when they were alive, but Taka is still continuing his role as 'Hall Monitor' His prompt is passing notes since that's what lead to his death, originally the note you were passed in class was going to be written by Taka but that felt like it broke his own rules. He disappears if he's ignored, much how he faded after Mondo's death. Ishida is only triggered if you interrupt his routine, disrupt his pace, and create disorder from what he sees as order, holding Mondo's pickaxe almost like a reaper's scythe.
Hifumi "Don’t play hooky in the art rooms" I know Hifumi is the 'Ultimate Fanfic Creator' in the english, but my brain always autocorrects that to 'Doujin Author' instead. And given his focus on fandom culture, I thought his haunting playing out like a video game, something in the zeitgeist like Slenderman the Eight Pages would be appropriate. Originally I had you collecting his artworks, with Hifumi hunting you down, blinded by the blood covering his glasses. He creates his own narrative much like how Celeste convinced him to go through with the murder. He certainly casts himself as a 'protector', expressing glee at being justified in his actions.
Celeste "Don’t default on your debts" As much as you could see Celeste's talent as unwholesome, she took absolute pride in it, and part of that was following through on a bet. Celeste does seem like the type to always find an angle; so she will find a way to exploit those around her into spoiling her, but that's not enough to dispel her stripped aristocracy. She's not in some vast ornate fireplace, she's in an incinerator where you burn rubbish. And the Versailles Witch won't let you get away if you get close enough to see her indignity.
Sakura "Don’t be disrespectful in the dojo" Sakura was very difficult since, like Chihiro, she's got no real impetus to become a vengeful spirit at all. But given her choice to betray the class to protect her dojo, it would be cold comfort being forced to watch over a facsimile of a dojo, at arms length, in a fashion like Tantalus. Her statue is based on Nio, muscular wrestler like figures who stand at the entrance of shrines to protect them from evil. She functions a little like SCP-173, she can only move if she's not watched.
---
Given that the sdr2 kids were all remnants of despair, and all had the potential to be as monstrous as Junko - I tried to link them each to an urban legend or a cryptid or similar, to make them another degree removed from humanity. Additionally, their rules are written to sound more like threats, than the THH kids' warnings, to make the distinction that they were more dangerous, far more active.
Imposter "Never copy someone else’s work" There's a common belief that everyone has a doppelgänger, a normal extension of the concept that there are only so many different faces in the world, so some are bound to be potentially near identical. But it's often seen as a bad omen to see yours - a signifier of your imminent death, or maybe a tragedy. The Imposter craves the sensation being someone else, so they don't have to be left with the void that is their own personality. By reducing you to the imitation they show you a fraction of their own personal despair.
Teruteru "Never take someone’s food without asking" Although it could be argued that all the ghosts are kinds of Poltergeists, but I wanted Teruteru to have less of a physical appearance but to express himself through the items in the kitchen - the thrown knives, the rattling pans, the food, much how he was truly himself whilst cooking, but outside of that he projected a false and vain persona, a persona which has been burned away. There's also a reference to the crimes he's implied to have committed whilst a remnant of despair, namely cannibalism.
Mahiru "Never record over something without checking" A large part of Mahiru's philosophy surrounding photography is in capturing the smiles and happy memories of her subjects. Writing over any of those would be unthinkable to her. She's based on Spirit Photography, ghosts and apparitions appearing in celluloid, with some aspects of the Ring, a ghoul able to cross over and reach you through a medium which something shouldn't be able to. The AV equipment she haunts is supposed to have been left behind by classes 77 and 78, the only other echoes of them that remain at Hope's Peak.
Peko "Never knock on an occupied stall" I know it's unfair! But she spends so much of case 1 in the toilet, and disposes of the evidence in case 2 in a bathroom.... Plus, I based her haunting on Hanako-san, a ghost who haunts a toilet stall, and only appears if someone knocks at her door. Peko cannot act alone - she can only act if she's called upon, if someone asks for her. Her multiple hands juggling the masks of the many identities she wears as she has none of her own. The colourful façade of 'Sparkling Justice' being her most memorable, and overriding her own face. Delicate yakuza tattoos wrap around her fingers, and she's missing her little finger on all but one of her hands - a common yakuza punishment for failure.
Ibuki "Never interrupt someone’s musical performance." If Sayaka is a siren, Ibuki is a Banshee, not only due to her singing voice, but also as she heralds the death of Hiyoko. Ibuki became trapped in someone else's elaborate web which lead to her death, so in her haunt she becomes twisted within the threads of her own vocal chords - as a reference to how she couldn't tell anyone what was wrong due to the despair disease. Her exceptional hearing helping her locate you, like a spider finds flies through the vibrations of the web. I was also inspired by the so-called suicide song, Gloomy Sunday, and getting such a song stuck in your head
Hiyoko "Never taunt someone with hurtful names" I wanted to make the rules more specific than just 'don't be a bully' so I used Hiyoko's vice of name calling as what makes her zone in on you; much how she picks apart insects when we first meet her. She's mistaken for a Zashiki-warashi, a harmless child spirit, a Japanese yokai in ode to her love of traditional Japanese culture. She's actually closer to a Usutsuki-warashi, a bad-omen, spirit of a child culled during famine when there wasn't enough food to go around - much like Hiyoko was culled to remove her as a witness.
Mikan "Never feign being sick" Mikan was partly based on Annabelle, the possessed Raggedy Anne doll, in how her innocent and clumsy nature belied the darkness beneath, but also how she was ultimately still just Junko's puppet on a string. Her only place of control is in the nurse's office where she can inflict her own feelings of helplessness onto her patients. (but there was also definite inspiration from the Silent Hill 2 Nurses, not just in the eerie way they move, but also how they are objectified, much like how Mikan is.)
Nekomaru "Never cheat in a sporting event" St. Elmo's Fire (witches fire not the movie) is an electrical phenom, an omen that precedes a lightning strike. Based on his appearance plus his transformation into the electrical Mechamaru, it also is reference to the electrical pulses that control the beating of the heart. Nekomaru essentially treating a bad-sportsman with the taste of a future where an infirmity forcibly retires them. Originally I had him drag them from underground to slow them to a crawl, but it seemed against Nekomaru's principles.
Gundham "Never harm an animal" Gundham would probably revel in the exaggeration of his myth; it's what he would do when he was alive. He's one of the more cryptid like, more of an animal than a person anymore, his transformation based on a Rat King. This phenomenon is where several rats get their tails tangled together with dirt creating a ring of trapped rats encircling their knotted tails in the centre. I originally thought to recreate it with hamsters, but given his beloved Devas survived him, I thought keeping it being rats was better.
Nagito "Never throw something useful away" Nagito is a difficult one since he would find no compunction continuing his test of hope vs despair, much as his role as servant in UDG. The Honest Axe parable has a woodsman drop his old axe into a lake, a river spirit offering him a gold and silver axe asking if those were the axe he dropped. If he refuses he is rewarded, but if he dishonestly accepts he his punished. If you accept Nagito's offer, you admit that you gave up on the item too soon, as a microcosm of giving up hope, you get a taste of his karmic luck as 'reward'. Nagito probably has a very good idea how to break their bonds as ghosts and allow them to pass on, but he won't give the ultimates the answer so easily.
Chiaki "Never delete someone’s saved game" Some of you were right on the money, Chiaki was based on Ben Drowned, I was originally going to draw her like the 'elegy of emptiness' link statue but it was so goofy, I went more classic .exe/doki doki style. Like many of the more positive characters, she's not really fit to be an evil spirit, and plus she was never actually a remnant of despair. The ominous foreboding feeling she gives you is a heightening of paranoia that would hopefully steer you away from contacting the other ghosts.
Junko Is the culmination of everything, the source of every rule. There's no despair after all if there's no one for her to torment, her vitriol enough to outlast her own death in canon by several games, she's dragged every victim into her purgatory. Like with the killing game, those she's trapped with her have the chance to 'beat her' but the game is rigged in her favour. She may be unable to manifest unless every rule is broken, but she's a master of manipulation. She's been the one to spread the rumours, so that people actively seek out to 'break' her rules, supernatural happenings being encouraging rather than deterring, making more people tempted to see for themselves. The ghosts were given just enough autonomy to believe they have agency, when they're trapped in Junko's loop.
If each ghost moved on, she'd have no one give her an endless stream of despair, no hauntings to spur on the thrill seekers/ghost chasers, no reason for all her rules to be actively broken by one person. She'd be slowly forgotten, slowly dissipate, and essentially disappear.
Originally I had Junko's haunting take place in the principle's office, She would call you over the tannoy, but I chose to make it more ambiguous. The idea was that, were she able to manifest, she was the only truly fatal haunting. Imagine the despair if they found a dead student in the principle's office.
I just wanted to thank everyone again, I had a lot of fun with this! It isn't a strict au, so if you wanted to play around with it, go ahead :) I hardly have a monopoly on ghost aus after all - there are loads of far better thought ones about, so if you liked this I'd recommend checking some out!

☁️Danganronpa: Shuichi Saihara x childhood friend reader headcanons☁️
Tumblr media
You and Shuichi have been friends for as long as you both can remember.
No matter what happened you two stuck through it all together, Shuichi couldn't even imagine leaving your side for a second.
Before the events of Danganronpa V3 take place, you know about Shuichi's love obsession with Danganronpa.
Whether you were just as devoted as he was or if you even disliked the series, none of that stopped him from imagining the two of you in Danganronpa. He imagined your executions, your free time events, everything he could've possibly put you both through.
The thrill of seeing your death, or you seeing his..., it sent chills down his spine in the best way possible.
Now he gets sick even thinking about it...
He was mortified when he got to Hopes Peak Academy, but even more so when he saw you there.
As soon as he heard the rules..., the terrible things Monokuma demanded everyone do in this sick game.., he was instantly more protective of you.
Although his confidence was lacking, he always stuck by you, watching the others carefully when they even got near you.
He hated being this paranoid..., but he loved you, and he'll be damned if he lets anything happen to you!
You're his main motivation when getting through the trials, and on nights when he's feeling particularly depressed, he'll replay his favorite childhood memories of you in his mind.
He really loves you.

Since it’s Chiaki day, I do wanna talk about something about Chiaki’s character that I really love that I don’t think gets talked about enough.
And that is the undeniably wonderful and beautiful love she does have video games.
This goes from the human version of Chiaki in DR3 that is able to use games to open herself up to her classmates to the much more standoffish AI version who will tell you that every game, even a bad one, is still meaningful to her in her first free time you spend with her. When it comes to each character’s talent in the games, they always have a divided opinion on the subject and how they feel about what it says about them.
With Chiaki, she just really, really loves games. Sure, there’s this lament that it’s the only thing she can be. With the anime, she expresses to Hajime that even if he is normal and without talent, he can still go anywhere. And she, Chiaki, will always be the Gamer Girl.
But at the same time, her hyperfixation is a true passion and love. No game is a waste of time for her. Whether it’s hard or easy, she just loves all of them and completes them. She always wants to understand them and talk about them.
Tumblr media
It’s so easy to get angry at games, to trash on them instead of seeing them as an art form. The same goes with our expectations of art in general, but there is a sincerity to Chiaki’s obsessions. It may even be unhealthy as she notes she sometimes forgets to eat, sleep or even breathe while experiencing them.
But honestly, gaming is a true and sincere part of her character. One that I can’t help but think the creator and writers really injected so well into her. She references games that no one has ever heard of. She talks about bad games in the same breath as the good and memorable ones. She gets offended when Monokuma “desecrates” a classic, but forgotten adventure game series to use it as a motive. She encourages her classmates to grow closer by playing games with her and forms connections with them. And even in the DR3 anthology mangas (I think it is), when she loses trivia games, she stays up until she memorizes all the social trivia games that she isn’t even good at just because she loves being a gamer so much.
Chiaki Nanami just is the realest gamer girl.

Your legs ache like hell when you walk over to the restaurant for breakfast. You almost forgot that you even needed to go, it’s been almost a week since you last ate with everyone and you had half expected Komaeda to drop by with a plate of food like he used to. It is nice to finally have your freedom again, but it does also make you feel even more nervous than usual. Luckily you don’t bump into anyone on the way over, the prospect of having to make small talk after the day you just had is daunting, you just hope that everyone is going to be nice at breakfast.
Heading up past the pool, you take a quick moment to look up at the sky, shielding your eyes from the sun with a hand. The weather is perfect as always, with just enough clouds to keep the heat from being unbearable, but otherwise, the sky is nearly unsettlingly blue. It seems brighter, more vibrant than you are used to. You can’t help musing, are these oddities a byproduct of the Neo World Program? Or of whatever universe the Danganronpa series exists within? You sigh, letting your hand fall back to your side and walking to the front door of the lobby. It’s cool inside, and you realise that you probably can't put off going up to the restaurant anymore, even though you are kind of dreading it. Chewing on your lower lip, your fingers subconsciously move to the sticker on your chest. Still there, though you suppose if it wasn’t you’d be dead.
Putting those unhelpful thoughts aside, you square your shoulders and start heading up the stairs. As you get closer to the top, you can hear the sounds of people chattering, it sounds like the class of 77-B is still in good spirits. You like to think that you have had at least a hand in that, even if they don’t realise it. No one turns to look at first when you reach the top of the stairs, so you hope to sneak in quietly and maybe sit down next to Koizumi or Sonia, but the second he catches sight of you, Togami stands up from his chair and clears his throat. Everyone’s eyes immediately turn to you, and you freeze in panic.
“Welcome back.” Togami says loudly, so loudly it booms through the room, “As prefaced yesterday, we are no longer harbouring any undue suspicion for you, especially given the overwhelming evidence in your favour.” he crosses his arms before turning to look at the rest of his classmates, “I expect that we all treat them as we would anyone else on this island. Teamwork is our greatest asset at this time, and if anyone should have any grievances, I ask that they come directly to me.”
He stares at you for a moment, and you are so overwhelmed by his impromptu speech that it takes you a few seconds to even realise what is happening. “Oh!” You exclaim, quickly dropping into a low bow, “Thank you, Togami-san! I am glad to be back!” In the corner of the room, you hear Saionji scoff and mutter, “Kiss-ass…”
You ignore her, instead walking over to one of the empty tables. Koizumi gives you an apologetic look before returning to her conversation with Saionji, and you’re grateful for that. You don’t even know what you should be planning for next. The next motive is despair disease, but you aren’t even sure if Monokuma will release it when the hospital is still inaccessible.
Oh fuck, what if he does? If Komaeda gets seriously sick, there won’t be much Tsumiki can do without proper medical equipment. If he dies of despair disease…what does that even mean for the killing game? You clutch your head in your hands and squeeze your eyes shut, this is the absolute worst , all you can do is wait around and just hope that everything turns out okay.
Just as you start spiralling, two people take up the seats across from you. Causing you to slowly peer up from behind your hands.
“Oh, Hi!” You say (a little too loudly) trying to seem like you are totally cool and normal.
It’s Hinata and Tsumiki, the latter looking even more despondent than usual.
Hinata raises his hand in greeting and gives you a lopsided smile, “Monokuma got to you, huh?” He asks, gesturing to your new accessory.
You wither, sinking back into your chair, “Yeah. He did.” you look around the room briefly, noticing everyone is staring before they quickly turn back to their meals, “Um. Did…everyone already know, when I got here?” Hinata rubs the back of his neck and averts his eyes, “Yeah our uh, our handbooks alerted us when a new rule was added, and since everyone else was already accounted for apart from you and Togami-san, well-” he smiles awkwardly, “We just assumed, you know?”
Yeah. Out of you and Togami, you are definitely the most likely candidate for idiot status.
You give him a wobbly smile in return, “Yeah, no worries. A reasonable assumption.” “If-um…” Tsumiki starts, “If you don’t mind. Why did he give you the sticker?” “I fell for a stupid prank.” You say truthfully, “It was really embarrassing, I’d rather not talk about it.” “O-Oh…” Tsumiki says, hanging her head low, “I’m sorry for upsetting you.” “No, it’s okay! I understand why you would be curious, I’m not upset with you.” She tucks some of her long purple hair behind an ear, and sighs, “Thank you. I do have m-more important things I have to say, though.” She takes a moment, picking at her cuticles as she tries to find the right words. Hinata gives her a comforting pat on the shoulder and she smiles up at him before turning back to you.
“I-I’m so sorry for whatever part I had in g-getting you framed for attempted murder!” She says quickly, bowing her head low enough that she almost slams her forehead into the table, “I w-would like to be your friend, and I d-don’t want this to ruin our friendship!”
You can feel your heart unfurling with warmth inside your chest, and you are unable to stop the smile that tugs at your lips, “Tsumiki-san.” You begin, reaching across the table and taking one of her hands between both of yours, “We’re still friends! Everyone was really scared and confused about what happened that day, I can’t blame you for saying what you did at the time.”
She sniffles a little, peering up at you from underneath her choppy bangs, “Are you sure? Th-That’s the sort of thing that I’d expect someone to hate me over.” You nod, “I couldn’t hate you! Remember the first day we arrived here? I wouldn’t have made it safely back to my cottage without you, and my sunburn would have been so much worse without you looking after me.” you give her a warm smile, “You’re a very good nurse, you know that, right?” Tsumiki shyly returns your smile, you can see tears beading in her eyes, but she blinks them away, “I’m relieved. Thank you for being so kind to me.” “Don’t mention it.” You reply, giving her hand a firm pat before releasing it, “I’m just happy to be back, I was getting a little lonely.” Hinata grimaces, “Yeah…about that…” he fiddles with his tie a little, “I have some…questions? I guess?” You feel your heart drop like a rock, but still manage to reply, “Oh okay!” “I don’t want to sound like I'm accusing anyone of anything but-” he pinches the bridge of his nose, “What do you think of Komaeda-san?” Oh no.
Oh no oh no oh no.
The absolute last thing you need is anyone else keying into Komaeda’s whole deal because that means the loss of a valuable ally, growing tensions within the group and the potential for murder or many other even worse possibilities that you haven’t even considered yet.
You can feel your hands shaking, and keeping your expression neutral is no small feat, but you do it, “Oh, Komaeda-san? Well it was very nice of him to let me stay with him, but he was out talking with everyone else most of the time, so we didn’t chat much.” Your cheeks hurt from the fake smile you are forcing, “Why do you ask?” Hinata shuffles forward in his seat and leans on his elbows. You follow suit, leaning in close. You notice Hinata’s eyes darting around the room, and the nervous bob of his adam’s apple, “He’s…weird, right?” Weird. Yes. You can work with weird.
“Hm, I suppose he can be a little strange sometimes? He laughs a lot, but I just think he isn't used to socialising.” Hinata’s brow furrows. For a moment his mouth opens like he is considering asking you something else but thinks the better of it.
“Was that…all?” You ask, praying that he will just stop looking so deep in thought for a moment. Based on his expression, Hinata looks like he is trapped deep in a logic dive right now, “Hinata-san?” You try, hoping to break him out of it.
He blinks a few times, and then chuckles uncomfortably, “Sorry about that, just thinking some stuff over.” What stuff? You want to ask. It’s not like you think Komaeda is a murderer or anything right?
Instead, you stay quiet, smiling as Hinata gets up from the table, “Anyway, will I see you at the beach later today?” he asks. “Oh yeah! You will!” You reply, “I almost forgot!” Tsumiki titters politely behind a hand, “I h-hope you don’t forget. I would love to spend some more time with you.” Grateful for a reason to stop stressing re: Hinata, you turn back to Tsumiki, “Then I’ll be sure to see you there!”
***
A few hours later, you sigh as you frown at yourself in the mirror. Even though it fits surprisingly well, you are still not happy to be wearing a swimsuit, all that really means is so much more skin that you need to try and get sunscreen on. It’s a lot of work, but the idea of repeating those first few days with that terrible sunburn is daunting, so you suffer through the lesser of two evils. Just before getting changed you found that Monokuma had ‘helpfully’ left a stack of idiot stickers on top of your dresser, so that way you will never be without one, not matter what you are wearing, it sticks surprisingly well to the material of your swimsuit, and you sense that Monokuma has taken great care to ensure it won’t fall off, even in the water.
You are in a bad mood, which is unfortunate given that just after breakfast Mioda quickly announced that she was expecting to see a ‘totally rad turnout’ down at the beach and it wouldn’t do you any good to not make an appearance, especially given everyone's tenuous trust in you at this point.
You huff and shove one of your sundresses (also affixed with another sticker) over the top of your swimsuit to take off when you get to the beach and tuck a folded towel under your arm. It is unlikely that you will manage to have any fun.
Unfortunately, you can’t stop thinking about your encounter with Hinata at breakfast. Though you are sure that Komaeda isn’t actively trying to make anyone think he planned the attempted murder, especially since that would prevent him from making nice with all the other Ultimates, there is the distinct possibility that Hinata has been thinking over the events of that night. Like Komaeda mentioned so many days ago, even a small thought about just how the power outage was caused puts him right in the firing line.
This is bad for you. While Komaeda doesn’t necessarily like you, he is at least interested enough in what you are doing to not ask too many questions. Apart from Nanami, there are very few other members of class 77-B that you can trust to just… let you do your weird bullshit without at least asking how you know all this stuff.
You almost consider bailing on the beach outing altogether, despite how much of a bad look it would be. Before you are able to make a decision one way or the other, you are interrupted by a knock on your door. Sighing aloud, you head over to it, surprised to find three people on the other side when you pull it open.
“Oh wow, um, hi everyone?”
“WAHOO!” Mioda exclaims, “It’s Ibuki’s BESTIE!” “Wahoo…” You reply back, barely able to match even a tenth of Mioda’s enthusiasm, “I wasn’t um- expecting any of you.” Sonia quickly steps around Mioda, taking one of your hands between both of hers and smiling, “I hope it wasn't too presumptuous, but you’ve been without company for so long and we thought you might like some friendly conversation on your way to the beach.” “Oh…” You breathe, feeling any tension in your shoulder quickly melt away. Sonia has an energy so calming that it's utterly contagious, “Thanks for thinking of me, that sounds nice actually.” Sonia beams, “Stupendous!” “STOOPYENDUS!” Moida cries, pushing Sonia out of the way so she can grab you by the waist and hoist you up in the air. You let out a panicked shriek and the third member of your visitors finally speaks up. “Put her down before one of you gets hurt, Mioda-san.” Pekoyama says quite seriously.
Mioda huffs, but does as asked. Once back on the ground again, you realise that you haven't seen all that much of Pekoyama so far. You had been expecting to confront her and Kuzuryu after the motive was revealed, but Togami’s quick action negated that issue almost immediately.
All three of the girls are dressed in their swimsuits, just like in the game, Sonia has opted to wear a full wetsuit, which you can only assume is what she is used to wearing when swimming in the freezing Novoselic waters.
Pekoyama has an incredibly oppressive stare, the bright red hue of her irises only make it worse. She’s also an absolute beauty, with strong arms and broad muscular shoulders. Her swimsuit leaves little to the imagination and you have to awkwardly swallow and avert your eyes to prevent yourself from getting an eyeful.
“We should go.” She says, crossing her arms over her chest, “We don’t want to be late.” Sonia nods, “Yes, yes, you’re right. At this rate all the boys are going to beat us there.” Mioda tosses her head back in a laugh and yells, “Not if Ibuki can help it!” before entirely forgetting that she was supposed to be keeping you company and sprinting off towards the beach as fast as she can. “Oh! Oh no!” Sonia says quickly, “You’ll have to excuse me, but I think someone needs to supervise Mioda-san.” She starts running, and she somehow even manages to do that with perfect posture, before she gets too far away, she calls back to you over her shoulder, “I’ll see the two of you there! My apologies!”
“Well.” Pekoyama says, watching Sonia quickly dash away, “It will just be the two of us, then.”
You laugh nervously, “Looks like it.” Without a word, Pekoyama starts striding towards the beach, and you have to jog a little in order to catch up. To her credit, she does peer down at you and slow her gait once she realises you are having difficulty keeping up.
“I-” Pekoyama begins, clearing her throat, “-am not a great conversationalist.”
“Oh, um- that’s okay! We don’t have to talk.” Pekoyama hums, fiddling with the end of one of her braids, “I would like to try, if that is alright with you?” Sneaking a glimpse at her face, you see that she is purposely looking away from you with a nervous pink on her cheeks. You’ve always had a soft spot for Pekoyama, she’s one of your favourite characters, so the fact that she even wants to try talking to you means a lot. Especially since you know she doesn't talk all that much.
“Sure.” You reply, “I can start if you want?” She chuckles, “Please.” You think for a moment, and then gently ask, “Did you go to the beach often? Before all this mess, I mean?” “No.” Pekoyama replies quickly, “Not unless I was there for training, though I did most of my cardio in swimming pools instead of the ocean.”
She does not ask a follow up question, so the conversation hangs awkwardly in the air. There is no sound but the crunch of your feet on the gravel underfoot and the occasional cry of a seagull. It is, admittedly, a nice walk even in silence. Plus, now that you have been far more diligent with sunscreen, you are free to enjoy the warmth of the sun without fear of further burning. It does feel a little awkward though, and you are unsure if the conversation is over, or if you should prompt Pekoyama to keep talking. Luckily, after a few silent minutes, you see her stiffen beside you.
“I’m sorry.” She says, laughing to herself “I forgot to ask you a question, I told you I’m terrible at this.” she hums a moment, and then asks, “Do you find it easy to make friends?” You blink. That question was much more complex than your silly beach question, “U-Um, I don’t really know? It’s kind of hard to explain.” You wring your hands together, “I’m not very good at approaching people, because I don't want to bother them, but if someone talks to me first, I’m usually okay. If that makes sense?” Pekoyama nods slowly, “I…suppose it does.” “It’s really easy to be friends with Mioda-san, for example. She puts in most of the effort, which means there is less for me to worry about.” You kick a wayward stone with your foot, “Have you made any friends since we’ve been here?” Pekoyama stops walking, “Just the one.”
Oh, Kuzuryu. You think to yourself. It makes sense that she isn't putting too much effort into socialising outside of him, but it’s still sad to think about. When you played the game, you always spent heaps of Free Time Events speaking with Pekoyama, but it looks like the real Hinata has his priorities set elsewhere.
Your heart races a little, considering that usually, without your intervention, Pekoyama wouldn't even have survived until today. With this extra time she’s been granted, it would be a shame if she spent it all alone, right? Resting a shy hand on her forearm, you say, “Well, I’d like to be your friend, if you’ll have me.” Pekoyama’s eyes widen a moment, and her lips curl up in what is almost a smile, “Despite my awful conversation attempts?” You laugh, “Because of them, actually. I can tell that you’re trying, there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't even do that.” You can’t help breaking into a smile, “I’m sure you’ll get better at it too, and there are lots of people on this island who would be willing to help teach you.”
“Thank you.” She says, looking up at the sky, “That sounds nice.” “You should talk to Tanaka-san.” You offer, continuing on your walk towards the beach, “He’s a bit eccentric, but he’s very good at talking so long as you have nice things to say about his hamsters.” Pekoyama smiles brightly this time, it's a good look on her, her eyes crinkle in the corners, “I…have always wanted a pet.”

Something that really grates on me about a lot of anti-Koma people is the complete lack of empathy for Nagito in regards to his actions from the Dead Room to the Chapter 5 Trial. Treating it as if it's the single most reprehensible thing any culprit has done over the course of the entire series. When it is pretty much the exact same shit that Asahina was pulling in the first game's fourth trial. But with a far less petty motive. We see how the remaining five survivors react when they discover the truth of the NWP in Chapter 6. They are all on the verge of a breakdown as it all starts to become too much for them, and they only narrowly pull themselves back together to initiate the shutdown. Now imagine how they would react if: 1. All those survivors were isolated from each other when they learned the truth. 2. They were not made aware of the fact that their apparent turn to evil wasn't actually voluntary, and that they too are victims. 3. They did not have the three DR1 survivors and AI Chiaki to offer moral support during these revelations. 4. They were not made aware that any person who dies in the simulation will actually be possessed by Junko's AI in the real world. Because those were the circumstances of Nagito learning the "truth" in Chapter 4! His antis get so worked up over his bitchiness towards Hajime and the others, that they refuse to see just how tragic and pitiable the situation really is. What at first seems like a bizarre and vicious betrayal is actually a young man finally having his spirit broken after a life of endless traumas. Becoming so ashamed and disgusted with himself that the only thing he can think of as a small act of penance is to torture himself to death and get his classmates executed for their crimes. While not realizing that he's inadvertently aiding the same Ultimate Despair he's trying to stop. And it pisses me off when it bleeds over into fanfics too, with most of the cast ostracizing him for it. Because come the fuck on. Characters like Teruteru, Fuyuhiko, and Peko really don't much have a leg to stand on with that, considering their actions would have had essentially the same result if the class trials went their way. Me personally I like to think they'd keep a careful watch on him. But also make clear to him that while they don't condone his actions and think he made a terrible mistake, they're not going to condemn him either. Acknowledging that if they'd been in his position, they don't know what they might have been capable of. Considering how his character grew, I like to think Fuyuhiko would be one of the first people to admit that he'd probably have reacted just the way Monokuma wanted him to if he'd been given that special "prize".
YESS this! this right here omg, i love talking about this.
i think it's really easy for people to treat nagito with a total lack of empathy because of just how far removed nagito is from his own humanity. so a lot of people just put the insane label on him and don't take much of a further look at his actions. but the reality is that every action he's taking holds so much meaning and has never not had a well thought out reason. doesn't make them justifiable, but does offer so much more depth into his character than just being "crazy."
also i agree on the aoi part, i really don't get how people hate nagito for chapter 5 but don't say anything about aoi trying to get her classmates killed in the trial. dont get me wrong, thats not me ragging on her, because i adore aoi. its just the inconsistencies in how people treat characters for their actions that bother me. i think people forget just how much of a stressful situation the cast is in. suddenly waking up where you're not supposed to be, missing memories, knowing your friend or you might die at any moment, not to mention the investigations and trials; thats all pretty fucked up.
and like you said, nagito was ENTIRELY on his own when he learned the truth about everything happening. he was already in a lot of mental distress when the killings started, so the whole "truth" would have just completely broken him. he's been so violently traumatized his entire life, literally everything has been taken for him and supposedly he's going to die from his illness soon since there's nothing left for his luck to take. the only thing he's been able to do is cope through his obsession with hope, (and if we remove the obsession with hope and just focus on the fact that they're inside a simulation and caused the world to end, that's already stressful enough. the main cast BARELY coped even with all the help) so when you take that into account AND that he was actively working against the one thing that could never leave him (hope)- that's pretty fucking destroying! the only way for him to not lose the last thing he had, was to commit suicide in the way he did. which he full heartedly believed was for the greater good.
the sheer mental distress you would have to be under to be totally okay with torturing yourself before committing suicide is, KIND OF A LOT lol. also, props to him for coming up with such an elaborate plan despite the stress he was under. i honestly feel like his death was heavily foreshadowed. the entire game he talks about wanting to be a stepping stone for hope and that he's okay with being killed for it. his entire life has all just been one big tragedy too. the way he died, his motives behind it, and goal to become the ultimate hope; it was honestly a great ending for him. but im not gonna go into depth on that because im already probably getting off topic here whoops
but lets talk about his bitch arc for a second (chapter 4.) people blow it SO out of proportion. nagito was an asshole for one afternoon and was bullying hajime because he's angry he's in love with some loser. its just funny to me how some people make it a huge deal and use it to say nagito hates hajime. in chapter 5 before he dies, he literally shows remorse for his actions and barely anyone talks about it!. i can talk about that a bit more on a different post if someone is curious but im trying not to let this get ungodly long lmao
also yes, the way characters in fanon will be overly critical with nagito. while i do believe they were a littleee bit harsh with him in the game (another thing i could rant about but i'll spare you) i really don't think they would hate him after the simulation. on the final trial with junko, they almost let her win. and when they learn about being remnants and they all wake up, i think they would have come to understand nagito at least a LITTLE bit better. literally none of them are inoccent, so they probably came to realize they weren't all that much better than nagito. while we don't really see nagito interact with the other characters much in the danganronpa 3 hope arc; he looks to be on good terms with the rest of the cast. and just judging by how they all agreed to just live for the future and put the past behind them, i do think they would try their best to give nagito a chance, even if they're a bit weirded out by him. also i totally agree with the fuyuhiko bit! i think he's a very reasonable person that understand morally grey areas, so i like to think he was one of the first to start giving nagito a chance.
okay sorry that this was SO long oh my god. i cannot make myself stop talking sometimes, especially if it's nagito related sdhjfbsdfkhjb. but thanks for the ask because i find discussing this stuff super interesting!!! <3

Things I Wanted to Include for My V3 Rewrite - Part 1
So if you’ve been to my AO3 and read my fanfic Alternative Danganronpa VE, I’ve gotten as far as Chapter 4 Daily Life where everyone arrives at the Virtual World. Since I haven’t had any motivation in wanting to continue writing it, I decided to make a series of posts that’ll narrate the things I wanted to include that’ll probably never happen. I'll try to highlight some of the most important things.
To briefly recap, my OC has been placed as the leader of the group so that everyone can work together in order to find another hint about the outside world.
Now here’s the new stuff, as soon as they start heading east to where the chapel is, they suddenly get warped into a battle with Monokuma-like enemies.
The scene then plays out like a turn-based RPG and after winning the battle, they start to think that the Virtual World feels like an RPG.
My OC complains about the idea as he ends up saying that he doesn’t like the RPG genre and abandons the group and returns to the mansion.
When he arrives at the phone, he thinks back to the dream he had where he remembers Miu saying that saying your name on the phone will return you to the real world. But it doesn’t work. Kirumi then walks in asking if he is ok and if he wants to talk. My OC gets embarrassed out of concern that Kirumi wouldn’t understand him, but gently explains that he doesn’t like the RPG genre because he’s bad at the genre and is bothered by the amount of peer pressure surrounding the genre’s popularity. Kirumi assures him that things will work out however, and the two of them walk back to the group.
When they return, my OC suggests that Kirumi should take the lead. Because he got Kirumi’s motive video, he wants to see if Kirumi has any leadership skills, but Kirumi doesn't remember anything about being the leader of a country. So Kirumi ends up being the party leader.
When the group arrives at the chapel, at one point, I think I had an idea that someone in the group pushes that big thing at the end of the hall (sorry, I don’t know what it’s called) and in doing so reveals a secret underground passage.
The group then proceeds in a play style similar to Despair Dungeon: Monokuma’s Test.
It’s that bonus mode in V3 that plays similar to Final Fantasy. Anyways, after a series of turn-based battles from random enemies...
The group eventually faces the dungeon boss.
I had an idea for a scene where my OC tries to chicken out of the fight thinking that everyone is destined to lose. Kaede and Kirumi however stop him from running away and tell him to man-up or something and fight the boss anyway.
After defeating the boss, well, I haven’t had any ideas as to what they get for a reward, but it goes like this. The group keeps hearing a voice say the same thing over and over again. Something like a female computer voice saying, “There is an error! There is an error! There is an error! There is an error!” and then the screen just goes black like how a TV turns off. The group then wakes up back in the computer room alive.
No murders have taken place yet.
That was an idea I had in mind, they go to the Virtual World for the first time, but afterwards there are no murders, and everyone is confused as to why what they just saw as they left the Virtual World has to do with the outside world.
I’ve written that the group would also get a Flashback Light as a reward. In the original game, the group doesn’t get another Flashback Light until Chapter 5 after Kokichi showed everyone the outside world. Although I’m thinking that it probably would’ve been better if they got another Flashback Light in Chapter 5 after discovering the new locations in the school.
I think I had an idea for a scene where my OC looks in his pocket to find something like a flashdrive. He realizes that this is actually the reward they got for defeating the dungeon boss and that the flashdrive contains more info about the outside world. My OC suggests that Keebo should be the one to hold on to it. Keebo agrees and takes the flashdrive.
Monokuma would then tell the group that they have to go back to the Virtual World tomorrow to find more clues. My OC however complains that he doesn’t want to go back because he didn’t like how the Virtual World plays similar to an RPG.
I think towards the end of this scene, I wanted to include a scene where...
Kaito starts to vomit blood before the fourth trial.
Like you know the scene after the fourth trial where Kaito pukes blood? I wanted him to do so before the start of the fourth trial. Just like in the original, Maki is the most worried one in the group and everyone starts questioning why Kaito is suddenly vomiting blood. Kirumi is also worried and asks if she could help, but Kaito refuses to get help from Kirumi and goes back to his room to rest.
I’ll explain what happens next in Part 2.

Danganronpa: Demo Storyline - What If
I really like old concepts, especially in the case of mystery series like Danganronpa. It’s fun to see what could have been if a character was portrayed a certain way or if a plot point was handled differently. It’s fun to speculate! For this post, I’m taking a look at DR1′s old demo and essentially writing how I think Danganronpa would go if the story went with what it depicted there.
Tumblr media
Basically, as shown above, Hagakure was killed instead of Maizono in a bare bones version of DR1′s first trial. In addition, Yamada was implied to be his killer and, in the demo manga, we even get to see Yamada’s unused execution...well, get used!
This also mean Sayaka, Mukuro and Leon get their time in the sun! So this storyline idea is just an expansion on this Demo’s premise. I hope you guys enjoy and I welcome any questions on it!~
CHAPTER ONE:
In this, Makoto finds not only Hagakure dead in his shower, but also Maizono knocked out cold. So the case goes from ‘proving you didn’t kill a popular girl’ to ‘proving you aren’t some psycho that beat a popular girl and killed a random dude’.
Because of Maizono’s condition, the nurse’s office is opened to treat her and Mukuro is essentially volunteered to keep watch over her by one of the colder students, maybe Celeste or Togami. Thereby ruining the plan for Mukuro to step on Monokuma and get executed.
Now, Sayaka does wake up and about halfway through the Trial returns…however, she insists that Makoto was the one to actually kill Hagakure. Thus, elading to a case where Makoto is desperately trying to find the truth while avoiding his classmates judgement of ‘attacking a girl and killing an innocent soul’.
In this version, the plan Maizono had was to kill Hagakure who still didn’t believe that a killing game was happening and take advantage of that ignorance. However, despite her initial attack, like in the 1st storyline, Hagakure manages to get a legup and, unlike Leon, manages to knock her out.
Now, this revelation causes Sayaka’s trust to plummet in the group and she has a bit of a breakdown. Trying to convince everyone she’s just Japan’s average Superstar, not an attempted murderer. It takes Kyoko and Makoto intervening from getting the group to mis-lynch her.
It’s then that the case eventually goes down the path of revealing who actually killed Hagakure: Yamada. In this version, he was out at night trying to dump away trash when he noticed the door to Makoto’s room open. There he found Hagakure standing over a prone Sayaka’s body, knife in hand and, realizing the game was legit, wondering what he should do.
Enraged, Yamada startles Hagakure enough that he drops the knife and flees into Makoto’s bathroom. There the case plays out in the demo with Yamada using his toolkit to break in and kill Hagakure, and gets found out because of his oily fingers staining the lint roller used to clean up his hair.
Yamada’s motivation to kill now leans towards him genuinely wanting to make sure his big sister is safe, playing into more of a Teruteru motivation.
Yamada is executed, but compared to the mainline story, tension is centered towards Sayaka for essentially getting two of them killed, with calls to lock her up. Makoto advocates to just drop it…but its clear he’s affected by this betrayal and his faith in her has taken a hit.
Sayaka in general is heavily traumatized by the execution and the realization she condemned someone to die. She’s back to essentially herself once she got the first motive.
CHAPTER 2:
With Hagakure and Yamada dead, Celeste loses both her scapegoat and accomplice. Meaning, she ends up trying to subjugate the second most malleable person she hopes to get, essentially the meek Fujisaki.
Speaking of which, because Leon survived in this version, he imprints on another ‘brother’ so to speak. He now looks up to Leon due to his confidence, and when in time for the second motive…that night he confides in Leon.
Now considering Leon can accept a yandere cousin in Kanon, while surprised, he does accept Fujisaki and promises to help him accept himself when the motive does arrive…
However, this does leave an issue concerning Mondo. His story continues the same and he bonds with Ishimaru, but there’s still that complex concerning Daiya’s death.
He does wonder about at night, stewing in anger when he reaches Togami in the library.
Because Togami is a dick, and out of fear for his secret to be revealed, he attempts to kill Togami. However, in this version, Toko is also in the library, hiding as she admires Togami.
Surprisingly, Togami can evade Mondo for a bit and even him injure somewhat by getting him to ram into a bookshelf, causing it to fall on him. Mondo’s hurt, but when he gets out he’s still seeing red.
The dust from the attack gets Toko to sneeze and turn into Genocider Syo. While Syo doesn’t usually kill boys like Mondo considering the danger Togami was in, she fatally wounds him.
Now, given that Syo is now our Blackened and is aware she killed someone, she refuses to allow Togami to go about framing her (since it would damage her reputation).
Togami forcibly switches her by throwing dust at her face and manipulates Toko that despite being the Culprit she can both win the Class Trial AND somehow get Togami out as well.
Together, both tamper with the scene to make it seem like Sayaka killed Mondo or that Chihiro had a plan in killing him, via a note Fujisaki had written to get Leon to the boy’s changing room…and what Leon casually tossed away in the nearby trash that Togami happened to find.
Now during this chapter most do not trust Sayaka given what happened in Chapter 1, so when she gives quite the shocked reaction upon seeing her secret, the others are quick to pressure her into remaining in her room.
Thus, when they find Mondo dead, having been stabbed by likely a knife they grow suspicious over Sayaka, with Makoto and Kyoko being the main ones trying to clear her name. Again.
Likewise, Chihiro is revealed to be a boy, but compared to his peers inspecting his corpse, its shocking, but they do come to accept him and with a bit of vouching from Leon, clears him from suspicion.
Toko is eventually outed by Togami after people began to suspect him, much to her horror. Before she gets executed, Genocider Syo drops a few lines concerning how the class met each other before and how things weren’t what they seem in her own loony fashion.
Togami’s reputation is…well, its pretty much the same post ch2, though I guess somehow its a bit worse? Given his more active role in getting someone killed and manipulating Toko.
CHAPTER 3:
With more of their number dead as a result of meddling from third parties, group cohesion has taken a further hit. However, instead of Hina finding Alter Ego in the locker, Fujisaki is instead confronted by Celeste who wants him to only tell a select group of people he knows he can fully trust/be useful (screened by Celeste of course). In short only Chihiro, Celeste, Leon, Makoto know about the laptop at first.
Of course their new little group does form a wedge between those that remain. Group Two (Kyoko, Junkuro, Sakura and Hina), with the outcasts being there own little third parties. Kyoko, being Kyoko, knows something is up and wants to speak with Makoto, but Celeste or Leon usually manage to get the lucky student away from the amnesiac.
Ishimaru is eventually recruited by Fujisaki after seeing just how depressed he was following Mondo’s death.  However, once he becomes Kiyondo, Celeste manipulates him into being essentially a guard dog for Ego to allow the others more time for themselves.
Things come to a head when Group 2, with Togami, confront the Laptop Team during a meeting wrap-up, wanting to know what they were all planning with a laptop of all things. Things get heated and just when it seems a fight is about to break out, Makoto is more than ready to come clean and inform his classmates about Ego…but that is interrupted by an announcement for Monokuma about the current motive.
Yamada and Hagakure  might be dead, but Celeste’s love of money still persists and she got a plan going on to get that dough. Manipulating Kiyondo, she tries to get him to believe that in order for them, plus Alter Ego, to be safe he needs to help Celeste win at the class trial.
First things first…hamper her enemies. Luring Makoto to the game room at night, she has Kiyondo smack from him behind with a small hammer. She is quite aware of Makoto helping lead the class trials to getting Yamada and Syo found out, so getting him out of the picture was a must.
However, Kiyondo becomes reluctant to finish him off and that’s when Chihiro comes in by chance. Upon seeing the scene, he begs for both to stop. That they don’t have to hurt each other and they can escape with his work. All of them.
Kiyondo falters and even Celeste looks a bit taken aback given the situation. However, she can’t quite accept things as it were. She has a dream that she wants fulfilled and is willing to go the lengths to see it made and tries to attack Chihiro…
But Ishimaru takes it instead, apologizing to Chihiro and Makoto as he collapses. As Makoto blacks out he witness Celeste walk up to Chihiro…and hears a familiar voice of one he struggled to call a friend anymore.
When he wakes up he’s in the infirmary, alongside Chihiro and Ishimaru. The latter isn’t dead and is back to normal, though bandages are on his head from his injury. Chihiro’s, however, is more severe and he’s in a coma.
Of course, that leaves to wondering about what happened to Celeste, which the others decide its best to just show him. In the art room, Celeste’s body is discovered. Dead via neck being broken.
So the trial becomes about what happened following Makoto passing out. In turn, the assault of the boys was discovered by none other than the outcast Sayaka, who attacked Celeste herself and got her to at least go on the run.
Not wanting to leave the other by themselves for too long, Sayaka gets assistance from the others to get the injured to safety, staying with them as a manhunt goes around looking for the rogue gambler. Which leads to the situation, where Celeste was found murdered.
Ultimately, the blame for the murder would go to Aoi Asahina. However, she was not lured by money like most would assume. Rather, she ended up giving in to one of her flaws - her emotional rage. She hates being in a game where she has to distrust others, be with people that doesn’t hold others best interests in heart and seeing how callous people can be.
Thus, when she finally sees Celeste in the art room, trying to salvage the situation and act like her ‘prim’ self, she gets angrier and angrier. Ultimately, in tears, she’s brought over the edge when Celeste snaps at her even daring to feel betrayed yet again and calling her foolish…so she shoves the goth. Unfortunately, Celeste trips on her own fallen hammer and breaks her neck.
Asahina is discovered following people beginning to suspect Sakura was the one, and Hina is outed simply because, in her own passion, accidentally discloses a detail of how Celeste died (via tripping).
During the aftermath, Hina breaks down from the guilt of her own sins, apologizing profusely for putting the others through this and is terrified of getting executed. However, she goes quietly when she sees Sakura is about to get hurt from her decision. She tanks Sakura for being such a wonderful friend and encourages her to survive, leaving the Ogress in tears as she’s executed.
The aftermath of the trial has Makoto and Sayaka start to mend their friendship, with the offer of trust being extended to her.
CHAPTER 4-6:
Mashing these together since the fifth and sixth chapters aren’t as long.
Learning from their mistakes, the remnants of Celeste’s group welcome the others in to the hiding spot of Alter Ego. Now, Makoto has witnessed Sakura’s fighting Monokuma and is concerning her status, but given the situation knows there’s not much he can say without coming across as just acting like Celeste/Togami. Kyoko picks up on this, though his hesitance to say things just yet leads to the whole ‘Kyoko being mad’ at Makoto spiel.
The motive for this chapter is altered slightly given Mukuro is still alive and kicking. Now, here, Monokuma reveals that not only is Sakura a traitor, but she is one of two amongst them. If someone were to kill Sakura then not only would they recieve no penalty (meaning no class trial), but they would get a huge hint on who the second traitor for the Mastermind was.
Sakura’s betrayal again shakes the class, but given who survives the reaction steadily becomes different. Makoto, Sayaka and Ishimaru want to give her a chance considering their experiences with betrayal/betraying themselves. Mukuro and Leon are on the fence on the matter considering the same experiences, which isn’t helped by Togami publicly considering her a threat. As for Kyoko, she’s about the same as ever.
It’s around this time, that Chihiro wakes up. With knowledge of the data processing room, he wants to use Alter Ego to hack into their in order to get more information about the Mastermind, HPA and potentially disable the system long enough for the group to make a play.  Though he needs some form of distraction.
Given Hina’s desire for Sakura to live and fight on, the martial artist opts not to consider choosing suicide. Instead, with help from the few willing to give her a chance, she arranges for a private meeting with Leon and Mukuro in the music room. On the surface.
In truth, Sakura and both of them were in on a plan to give Chihiro that chance, with all three havin a scuffle in the music room. As a result, for a moment of time, Chihiro seems to have done it as the school  begins to shutdown thanks to his machinations.
However, because of Mukuro being Junko’s other spy, she informs her of this action, thus allowing her to pre-prep some defense measures to help stop Chihiro.
In the end, the school experiences a series of blackout for a deal of time, with people like Kyoko trying to make use of it to get into the Headmaster’s office, in which she succeeds.
However, when things finally settle and lights come on for good. They see, Togami lying in the music room. His head crushed by a light fixture dropping on his head.
In the trial, its discovered that Togami accidentally got himself trying to turn the chaos of the music room into a trap to kill one of the others. At least that’s how I would think it would go down. Like before the others arrive he tries setting up some sort of trip that could get someone killed, but the blackouts gets him knocked about accidentally in the chaos and himself killed by his own trap.
Honestly, I just think it’d be fitting for Togami to somehow get himself killed after all this time. Though, likewise, this and the case after this ideas are waaaay rougher. Don’t quite have a super grasp on the details of how they would ever come about
However, while Togami might haven taken himself out, Monokuma is more than aware of Chihiro’s meddling and due to his rule breaking has him executed.
However, before he is killed, Chihiro gives everyone a great deal of Hope, proud that they were all capable of working together to get as far as they could. He encourages them to keep it up!~
As a result, following his demise, everyone becomes unified—all taking up a united stance against the Mastermind…Mukuro being sort of the exception.
By now, the mystery surrounding the sixteenth student is afoot and there’s the whole issue concerning Monokuma being inactive, which the Havoc cast believe its a remnant of Chihiro’s work at play.
The person who bites it this chapter is none other than Kyoko Kirigiri - her body found stuffed in the Monokuma Flower.
Now, by now Mukuro Ikusaba’s identity is being thoroughly discussed during the tiral and its because rather clear that her measurements line up quite well with what they know of Junko.
Ultimately, Mukuro’s true identity is revealed and the other classmates are all for voting her off for her duplicity and the hand she held in getting Kyoko killed. This would lead into the good/bad routes. Where Makoto joining in gets Mukuro executed. The good route has him talk them down from jumping the gun.
However, like last time, Mukuro takes on Kyoko’s role in getting him seemingly executed without Makoto’s evidence against it. However, like in canon, Alter Ego saves him.
Sayaka goes does to save Makoto from the trash heap, their bond fully re-established and complete.
Thus, sixth trial of this timeline holds: Makoto, Maizono, Mukuro, Leon, Sakura and Ishimaru as the surviving six. Mukuro takes Toko’s place as being the one to tell the others about the state of the outside world. Junko is the one who kills Kyoko in that weird Despair Luchador persona.
-
Thus, we’re at the end! Hope you enjoyed reading this! When it came to deciding who lives and dies, while I didn’t intend for the former survivors to be offed one by one, I thought to continue such a path after deciding Toko should murder Mondo.
Speaking of Mondo, and Celeste too, while I did play around with them not comitting murder or even surviving, I think their strong motivations in the official games would just make them act out anyway, even if they weren’t successful here. Especially, concerning Celeste.
Anywho, hope you enjoyed it!~

18. "How do you feel about fangames?"
I love Fangans! Now that canon DanganRonpa's fate is up in the air, we need something to fill the void. And what are we going to do, go into other series? Pffttt! Anyway, I enjoy fangans a lot, the idea of making your own story with the simple DanganRonpa concept of a killing game. Obviously some are good and some are....bad, and some go on hiatuses due to reasons out of controll like the creator, such as burnout, health issues, or just straight up not motivated anymore and that does suck. And a lot of time, I can't get too into other fangans because I too get bored and burned out of wtaching the same stories over and over again, especially if the talents are the same and the setting is the same(*cough*Hope'sPeak*cough*), but I always admire fans going out there and pushing their stories onto the world. I have a fangan idea of my own and I would want to get it out there as well someday as well.
41. "What is your opinion on Ultimate Talents being similar to low-level super powers?"
Uuuummmm....I didn't know people thought of it like that... I thought it was just easy to make a Super Hero AU concept or a crossover with MHA. But...I guess in retrospect, and especially in regards to Izuru, they could be like superpowers...
47. "What are some of your Remnant of Despair headcanons?"
Some of these are repeats from The New Future, but I don't care.
-The Remnants, definitely, killed their parents and loved ones first; to get that extra GOOD despair.
-Going from most dangerous to not that dangerous is: Izuru, Akane, Nekomaru, Sonia, Fuyuhiko and Peko, Mikan, Ibuki, Hiyoko, Teruteru, Imposter, Mahiru and Nagito.
-So the Despairs are running rampant spreading their propaganda everywhere. So resistances and rally movements need some sort of icon or symbol to counter back against Monokuma. So in short, they need someone who fights against oppression, tyranny, and values freedom. .....It's Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic rally concerts, events, commercials and posters are spread out everywhere to try and bring hope back to the world. And a lot of Sonic songs are used to counter Ibuki's music, causing her to hate him. And also why Monokuma hates Sonic in V3. This one is my favorite, it's so good!

//So in a rather dramatic twist of fate, Springtrap and Monika have BOTH ended up with 27.1% of the final vote.
//Upon seeing the result, we talked about what to do in response, but we've decided that we're going to settle it with a tiebreaker.
//You guys have one day to vote for who you want to be Junko's opponent between these two. If they tie again, we'll just do three-way battle (however the hell we're gonna make that work)
//As a reminder, here are the connections.
Afton: Both are antagonists from video games that are both psychopathic and intelligent, and they both started a horrible event with little to no rhyme or reason behind it, that kickstarted the main timeline of their respective series (the Tragedy and the end of the world for Junko and the multiple child murders that Afton committed). Both used their designated place of work/study as a death trap for their victims (Hope's Peak Academy and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza) and both are connected to mascots with animal themes, one of which they hide behind to keep their actual identities a secret from others (The Monokuma's and the Animatronics, more specifically the RC Killing Game Monokuma and Spring Bonnie). Both of them have control of a variety of gadgets and tech that help them kill their victims, the most potent of which are a small army of animal-themed killing machines (Monokuma for Junko and the AR Animatronics and Twisted One's for Afton). Ironically, their death would come from being crushed by the very thing that they used to commit their murders, as well as being brought on by their own victims (Junko died in the Ultimate Punishment after Makoto and the other Survivors of the first Killing Game defeated her, and Afton was crushed by his suit's spring locks when confronted by the spirits of the 5 missing children that he murdered), but they would soon resurrect in order to carry out their murderous plans; initially, they would take over a robot, and later, they would emerge as a virus that would infect users' virtual games and take over their minds (Junko created an Alter Ego AI of herself that initially took over Kurokuma and Shirokuma before it's concentrated code was uploaded into the Neo World by Izuru, where it then tried to possess the bodies of the Remnant's of Despair. Afton's spirit possessed the Spring Bonnie suit, becoming Springtrap, and then later Glitchtrap in the Fazbear Virtual Experience, where he tried to corrupt the minds of the game testers). These AI's also successfully took hold in the minds of young females, who became their most devoted follower (Yukari Koime and Vanessa). Both are also notorious for coming back from the dead time and time again, no matter how many times people try to get rid of them.
Monika: Both are the main antagonists of Visual Novels who are initially portrayed as talented high school girls and possess an abnormal degree of control in the world around them (Junko is the Ultimate Despair/Fashionista/Analytical prowess, and is extremely powerful and influential for a mere high-school girl and regularly breaks the fourth wall, while Monika, who is the president of the Literature Club and a very popular upperclassman in the school, not only also breaks the fourth wall, but has access to the game files, which she can play with how she fits) They both commit graphic crimes on the world and their classmates/friends for seemingly petty and nonsensical reasons (Junko does it to feel Despair and spread Despair, while Monika actively deletes the other characters from DDLC's game files until she's the only available romance option left) however, they do it with slightly contrasting motivations which makes one more sympathetic than the other (Junko is hopelessly fickle and does terrible things simply out of boredom and a desire to feel any sort of excitement. Monika does it out of desperation and love for the player, since the game denies her any role outside of a background character, and not an initial date option). Both, at least at one point, are also AI/coded characters in a digital world that they desperately want to escape from (Junko came back as an AI after her death and tried to use the Remnant's of Despair's bodies to escape the Neo World Program and wreak havoc on the world again, while Monika desires nothing more than to get out of the coded reality she's in so she can be in a romantic relationship with the MC behind the screen.) As a side note, Junko's protégé from Ultra Despair Girls is also called Monaca, though it is spelt differently.

Alright, here we go with the other part of 3-1's Motive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I go back and forth over whether 2-3 or 3-1 features the worst Motive in the series. 2-3 kills three characters at random because one of them was arbitrarily turned into a murderer by Monokuma. But at least the Despair Diseases are fun and wacky.
3-1 doesn't go that far in undermining the entire concept of an interesting Motive. But this still sucks. Pointing a gun at everyone's heads and ordering them to kill is the least interesting possible way of coercing a murder out of the cast. This is 2-4's motive but without the wacky Funhouse to at least keep things interesting.
In place of the Funhouse, we have the First Blood Perk pretending to be a thing, inevitably waiting for them to drop some absolute fucking bullshit to try and weasel out of using it. Just. Some inevitable dogshit writing to explain why the thing Monokuma promised won't happen, once someone caves into the pressure of "I'll fuckin' shoot ya if you don't."
This first case is abysmal and speaks to Tsumugi's complete incompetence as a Killing Gamerunner. Like. This gets into the whole "DRV3 is hard to criticize because it's badly written on purpose" thing. This first case is supposed to be an abysmal mess of tripe written by an incompetent Mastermind. This sloppy shitshow of a case is going to be what unravels the entire Killing Game and Danganronpa Franchise in the climactic finale.
It's trash, but it's designed to be trash. However, it's very effective at being trash. This case sucks. And it brings us right back to the central question at the heart of V3 critique: If something is unsatisfying on purpose, does that make it good actually? Or does it remain unsatisfying?
How do you even discern between a well-crafted miserable media-consuming experience and an incompetently crafted one?

Curious: what are your general thoughts on the mainline Danganronpa games (Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair, Ultra Despair Girls, Killing Harmony)? Like which one’s your favorite/least favorite, etc?
Ooh fun!! I do have lots of thoughts. I guess I’ll do them in order of fave to least fave. Under a readmore because I had too much to say
SDR2 - BRILLIANT, absolute pinnacle. I think the main reason sdr2 works so well is that it understands most players will be returning from THH so it ramps the tension up to 11 right from the get go by revealing that everyone has lost memories straight away. Most of the murders are really cool, trial 5 is the best one in the series, obvz. The island setting is nice too, it’s very different from the first game but not in a way that is too jarring. Oh and the cast is the best I think. Obviously I have issues with Hanamura but they have the sense to kill him straight away so no biggie. My only other character issue is that I really wish they did more with Owari, she’s kind of nothing and that’s sad. Also tragic that Saionji didn’t get her character arc :(( OH AN TSUMIKI NEEDS TO NOT FALL OVER SO MUCH THATS STUPID
Komaeda is there and he is the most interesting and coolest character ever. +100000000 points
UDG: okay okay, controversial for me to put it so high I KNOW. It’s got so so so many problems and yet….it compels me. I love Komaru, she is my favourite protag and I always liked Fukawa, so it’s nice to see her sort of come into her own and get to be a bit of a hero. UM THE MUSIC IS THE BEST. I like when it goes YEAH YEAH YEAH. I also actually really like the setting of Towa city? It’s cool to see the effects the tragedy had on the world as a whole, and it’s fun to explore. Gameplay is messy, but I don’t hate it, I have played much worse.
I had a lot of issues with the warriors of Hope in general and do wish they stuck with the initial plan of having the remnants of despair be the boss fights. Sigggghhhhhh, so upset that it was taken from us. That would have been the COOLEST.
Wish the tickle machine wasn’t in it. Wish the pedophile was dead. Wish Kotoko didn’t fall down so much. Wish Fukawa toned it down with the incest jokes.
I need servant carnally.
THH: THE OG MY BELOVED. I have a lot lot lot of nostalgia for this one, it’s very soft to me, I feel like I grew up in hopes peak lol. For serious though, Hopes peak is a cool af setting, it’s such a weird school and the art direction is absolutely stunning. I mentioned in a previous ask that it’s probably a bit too slow going, but it’s fair because this really was the first game of its kind and they have to tell you how to play it.
The reACT mechanic is funny and useless. I am glad they got rid of it, but it makes me laugh when I see it.
I love all the characters, they are like children to me. I even like Yamada, it’s the truth. I think they majority of characters are more toned down in this game, which is to its benefit I would say. Some characters in later games are a Bit Much.
I also like all the motives! They actually make sense??? And it’s the only game where Monokuma doesn’t cheat with a, “kill before arbitrary time limit or everyone dies” which is the worst motive and I hate it.
The Fujisaki problem is very present, unfortunately. I still don’t think they were meaning to be offensive anyway, but ya know. I’m pretty chill with any interpretation, but I usually consider them a transwoman
V3 : Hm. I do not like. The school is very very big and so easy to get lost in, where the first two games feel very distinct and easily navigable. It’s also not much different than Hope’s Peak, which is a little boring.
I want to punt the Monokubs into a volcano. V3 feels even slower and longer than THH and I blame them. They talk so much and so often and it never progresses anything and UGH.
I’m iffy on way more characters. Like I mentioned before they can be a Bit Much. I’m meaning your Tenkos and Mius. They have One thing, and that’s all they do and are, which is uninteresting and ANNOYING. It feels like so many of them have been boiled down to one trait, even characters I like such as Tsumugi and Himiko are like that, but their trait is less loud so it doesn’t annoy me so much.
Motives are stupid and dumb almost always. Hate them. Fucking necronomicon makes me want to chew glass.
The protag switch is cool. I like it, but I miss Kaede every single day.
The ending I do not like. It would be a whole five more paragraphs for me to explain my issues in full, but it sort of betrays it’s own messaging and renders the rest of the game meaningless (at least in my opinion)
Cospox makes me want to die
The music and UI are very good though!!
This was so so so long. I have more Thoughts, but I will save you from them for Now

And sadly that sentiment isn't just on Tumblr and Reddit. But also on places like TVTropes, where a person who might want to know more about Danganronpa's characters may be liable to go. On his character page, they used his actions in Chapter 5 to slap him with the Hypocrite label. Just... This perception of Nagito as the "Evil Makoto" or being a hypocrite about hope is honestly fucking vile. Of course Nagito feels despair in his heart. He has every goddamn reason to. If you gave Makoto or really any of the other cast members the life Nagito had, they would have turned out pretty much the same way. The revelation he received in Chapter 4 was probably the most soul-crushing one that ANY character in the series has received. Unlike the "Actually the world has gone to shit" and the "Your personalities and backstories were all implanted into you for a reality show" revelations in DR1 and V3, there is no silver lining he could cling to. As far as he's aware, he and all his classmates betrayed everything Hope's Peak stood for and became complete monsters that ruined the world. Including the man that he's infatuated with. He would have had no idea about the brainwashing being a thing considering how Monokuma and AI Junko tried to frame the revelation to the Chapter 6 survivors. ANYONE in that position, with all the extra baggage Nagito had, would feel their spirit break. Including Makoto. His actions in Chapter 5 do not make Nagito weak-willed or a hypocrite. They make him fucking human. And as a side-note, I think the fact that he came to cling on to the concept of hope as a coping mechanism for the shit that he was put through is actually a sign of mental strength, not weakness. Consider what might have happened if he reacted to the insanity of his luck cycle in a different way. Someone else in his position could have just as easily become an uncaring nihilist that gave up on trying anything.
i truly do not understand how people came to the conclusion that nagito is a hypocrite. his actions and motives are arguably some of the most consistent than anyone else in the game. some people lack a lot of media literacy comprehension </3 especially on reddit or twitter… dear god. i try to avoid a lot of it.
take this with a grain of salt because this was something i saw a long time ago; i remember hearing that nagito was supposed to sort of reflect makoto, not as like his “evil” version but just a darker take on him. Hope taken to the unhealthy extreme mixed in with ridiculous amounts of trauma. sounds so pleasant! but they have a lot of similarities and a lot of opposites, which i’ve always found very interesting and they make complete sense if you think about them!
nagito’s character really is just tragic. unfortunately a lot of people put him into a box and don’t try to make much sense of his actions. which trying to fit nagito into a box is already impossible, he’s purposefully a contradictory character- but when you really take a minute to think about all of his actions, it makes complete sense why he does the things he does. i will never understand the lack of empathy some people had for him in chapter 5, he had everything taken from him and his entire world just shattered. the actions he took weren’t good by any means, but he tried so hard to do what he believed was the right thing. ugh i feel just awful for him man. that whole chapter was so well written in my opinion, and it really tied nagito’s whole character together.
and with the part about him clinging onto hope, it’s definitely a sign of strength! he’s a very resilient person and doesn’t get enough credit for it. he had a whole villain origin story and managed to keep trying lol. now this is more of just a theory i’ve had and i don’t have much medical knowledge at all; but i’ve always wondered if some of his obsession with hope had anything to do with his dementia. OCD is a symptom of frontotemporal dementia, and i think the more crazed obsession with hope that we see during the killing game could 100% have overlap with that. i might make a different post going more in depth on that because i think understanding just how nagito’s brain actually works on a fundamental level, gives a lot more insight onto him as a character. there was definitely a lot of research and care put into his character so there’s a lot to pick apart!

Let’s see how Mahiru died!
Tumblr media
Well... I wouldn't say she died as of yet, after all we need to see what she did before then...
Tumblr media
Huh? Why is that important...?
Tumblr media
Remember when you say she was starting to avoid you after you gave her the photos? Well I figure you should see that wasn't the case...
Tumblr media
Really...? Well, let's see...
...
...
...
Tumblr media
*opens the door to the dining hall* Geez, that Monomi was really annoying - I had to convince her that Nagito needs food...
???: Ah, well well... if it isn't Mahiru, it's so nice to see such a friendly face...
Tumblr media
Huh...? *in the room, chain up to one of the tables sat Nagito...*
Tumblr media
NAGITO: So... what brings you here...? I guess Nekomaru and Kazuichi told you where I was?
Tumblr media
Yeah, they did... honestly I can't believe they think leaving you here was a good idea but more importantly...
Tumblr media
I hope you realize what you did is wrong; you got both Imposter and Teruteru killed because of you wanting the killing to start!
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
Seriously do you even feel guilty at all for what you did? You were going on and on about your weird ideology and push Teruteru to murder, I mean why would you do that at all?
Tumblr media
Well... given the hope of seeing his mother again, I figure it would overcome the despair but I suppose it can't be help...
Tumblr media
Ah but you don't need to pay attention to me, you could just leave me here and I could starve to death, which is a preferable outcome...
Tumblr media
While I'm still annoyed with you, I'm not going to do that because if we did; another class trial will be held and likely Kazuichi and Nekomaru would be executed.
Tumblr media
But... at least it's better then the current motive we got but I rather hope that there's no more murders...
Tumblr media
A motive you say?
Tumblr media
Yeah... it's a video game called 'Twilight Syndrome Murder Case' which Fuyuhiko was the first to play it.
Tumblr media
Which he told me to play as it involves me and gave me some photos but... I don't remember taking them...
Tumblr media
I see... so a video game, huh?
Tumblr media
Never thought Monokuma would choose that title, I did remember playing it when I was younger; it was a horror-themed action adventure and the series went on until 2008.
Tumblr media
But hey, maybe you should play it then!
Tumblr media
And why should I?! I say before I'm not going to play that stupid game and resort to murder! No way I'm going to do that at all, nope!
Tumblr media
But even then, aren't you curious? I think given you are a photojournalist and want to follow your mother's footstep; I'm sure she would want to check that out, right?
Tumblr media
...Huh?
Tumblr media
Remember that I read up on all the Ultimates that were going to attend this class, well I did hear quite a bit about you as well, Mahiru. You want to become a photographer just like your mom who's a war photographer and took photos of various wars and conflicts in the middle east.
Tumblr media
So wouldn't the Ultimate Photographer want to investigate this? But hey, given you confirmed you won't play it then maybe you can ignore it if you want besides, it is just a game after all.
Tumblr media
...I'll think about it, but right now I'll get you breakfast. *walks out and closes the door*
Tumblr media
I know that we agree we shouldn't play that game but still, the fact that it includes us and... mom would want to investigate this, wouldn't she?
Tumblr media
I'm not sure what to do, maybe... maybe I can ask the others that were involved in that case too and figure this out; I... I don't think I can do this alone.
*Confused by this, Mahiru leaves as she goes to get breakfast...*

Ultimate Cuteness Series - Ultra Despair Girls Edition (Part Five)
You, Toko and Komaru returned to the elevator, and you finally made it to the top of the tower.
Toko set up the wireless device Shirokuma gave you and contacted Future Foundation. Makoto Naegi answered the call, and you had a strange feeling in your chest upon seeing him.
You moved aside and let Komaru talk to him. The revelation was brought up that Toko and Makoto knew each other, and Makoto finally explained what happened with them during the Tragedy: they had been captured inside Hope's Peak and forced to participate in a killing game.
Just listening to him explain it made you feel a twinge of despair.
He also mentioned the "Remnants of Despair," which sounded familiar somehow. He also revealed that the reason Komaru was abducted was because of because the mastermind who imprisoned Makoto and the others inside of Hope's Peak. They had abducted everyone relevant to the students as a motive to make them commit murder.
Toko brought up what one of the kids earlier, something about "Big Sis Junko."
It was none other than Junko Enoshima, who was not only the mastermind of the Hope's Peak killing game, but the tragedy as a whole.
Oh, and she has huge boobs.
Despite being dead, her memory continued to live. She continued to influence the Remnants of Despair, and the Warriors of Hope as well.
Komaru begged Makoto to come to Towa City and save her, but you learned that if Future Foundation came to Towa City, something would happen to Byakuya.
So that possibility was thrown out the window.
Toko said that if Makoto even tried, she would kill Komaru, and you as well.
After she said that, the connection started breaking, and Makoto was disconnected. The battery had run out.
Suddenly, the shutters over the windows closed, and you had to hurrt up and leave before you were trapped.
Then the lights shut off, and Toko began panicking. You started looking around for an exit, when a Monokuma Kid appeared. They dropped a glow stick, which you could use as a small light to navigate through the dark, before disappearing.
Komaru used the Detect function to reveal the Monokuma Kid's footsteps and follow where they went. You found them hiding and Komaru apprehended them. She put them down and they led you to an emergency exit before slamming the door in Toko's face and closing it. Komaru tried to open it again and there was a sudden explosion.
The exit was blocked, so you had to find another way. Komaru blew one of the shutters off the windows, revealing some light and giving Toko some peace of mind. Now that you were finally outside, you found a ladder to get down and made it halfway down.
You went inside and started looking for the next ladder. Suddenly, a Monokuma Kid burst out of a door and scared Toko half to death. They dropped a note inviting you to another challenge. This time, it was, "Find the light in the darkness."
You left it to Komaru, the Riddle Queen, to guide you. She used the Detect function and found the password, then proceeded to type it into the laptop.
After you continued exploring, you found another book about a ghost. Komaru asked why Toko was afraid of the dark, and she explained that it was because she was locked inside somewhere she didn't know for 3 days and nights, no food or water. Toko was getting upset, so she left it at that.
After looking around some more, you finally made it outside.
Komaru confronted Toko about what she said earlier, about killing her and you. Apparently, she would do anything for the sake of her "Master," so she was completely serious when she said that.
"So you would even... Kill your friends? Even someone as innocent as UC?" Komaru asked her.
"What? Friends? Did you really think I'd feel differently if you started using the word 'friend'? And I've seen innocent people die before. It wouldn't be hard to do it myself."
"N-No... That's not what I mean... I do trust you. And so does UC. Right?"
"Y-Yeah. I do."
"Hmph..." Toko turned away, and so did Komaru. After a moment of awkward silence, she began walking away.
"Where are you going?"
"It has nothing to do with you. Let's go, UC." Komaru responded.
Toko came back by saying that she had been doing nothing all this time, and said that she had never praised or thanked anyone in response to Komaru's insistence. This prompted the younger girl to shout back, saying that that was why she didn't have any friends.
After a few more moments of this, you followed Komaru as she walked away, and Toko followed behind, though she remained far away.
And with this, you headed back to the hideout, with the awkward tension hanging in the air.
