seems like so far the #1 enemy of the bg3 modding community has been... *checks note* age. just like... any signs of age whatsoever.

CONFESSION:
People complain about games being broken and never fixed when I remember  how bad Awakening was back in the day. It was unplayable on the console. It was unplayable on the PC and even the patch they released didn't fix everything. It took the modding community to make Awakening playable for the PC but console players got shafted. I experienced some  really bad non bioware game launches so I was really grateful I had very few issues with the mass effect legendary edition and I hope its the same way for Dragon Age Dreadwolf

bg3 fandom will be out here drawing the characters totally unrecognizable with smoothed out faces or skinny (granted there's not actually fat characters in it :/ but some characters have rounder faces (gortash) and it's gone in some fanart) and it's so boring. it's so so ridiculously boring to look at

Yet Another Distressing Wyll Mod
Another mod white-washing Wyll was uploaded on 11 January, 2024.
The mod is called "Wylls of Toril" and is created by Fesstrom, who has no other character mods in their history (and only one other mod, a nice mod which adds a popular Wyll hair-mod to his portraits). This is not necessarily indicative of malicious intent, but it does fit the pattern of prior modders who have little to no history other than a fresh account seemingly created for the sole purpose of offering a mod that alters Wyll's appearance, typically in order to make him appear less black.
The mod was originally posted with three screenshots of an alternate model for Wyll's face, along with three different skin-tones, two of which were a light and dark shade of brown, and one of which was white.
I am going to go into some detail below. I am willing to create more of a point-by-point breakdown and get into even further detail, but wanted first to share the basic description and screenshots. I am hesitant to go into a lengthy break-down from the get-go or without request, lest I be leading or present my own biases, upset, and bitterness as something more than my subjective experience. The more I can stick to the screenshots and links, the better.
Further details under the cut!
I (sanguinarialroot on Nexus) and others attempted to point out the racism inherent to this mod, with some overtly accusing the modder of deliberate racism, and other's detailing the issues without any comment on whether the mod was deliberately racist in intention outside of the operation and reception.
There is also a Reddit thread focused on this subject, and to which I contributed multiple comments (and a lengthy, distressing, thoroughly depressing dialogue with a lengthy, distressing, and thoroughly depressing person towards the tail end of a few comment threads... Trigger warning for a host of manipulation tactics or bad-faith dialoguing, as well as racism denial and baiting someone to share their race and then denying said race.)
I also have screenshots of my posts (the link clicks through to IMGUR) detailing the experience, many of which have since been removed due to reasons that the modder only scrambled to add as qualifying for removal AFTER I'd typed up my comments. This is presumably still being done for other users' as the mods post's count has hovered near 65 for around 24 hours now, despite it's prior post progression having rapid accumulation of comments in the hours closer to it's release.
Please read the comments on the screenshots, as I break down quite a bit of what occurred with a bit more detail and chronological progression than I would on a post in this form!
ONTO SOME POSITIVES (if they can be called as much...)
The modder later added another face model for Wyll, which appears to be their original model, with a wide nose and slightly thicker lips. This was done per another user's request. I'm going to be honest, I didn't notice this "fix" until long after my last posting before I was banned. It does not look quite so different from the modder's original alternate head, but I still regret that I did not acknowledge a potential attempt to improve. Of course, the damage was done and it does not absolve the modder, but it was an acknowledgement of a potential issue.
I would also like to thank the modder for remaning civil throughout the comment process! At no point did they speak lewdly or with hostility, and at no point did my banning seem like a drastic response. I can respect the modder's prerogative to remove me from the conversation towards the end. That doesn't mean I tolerate rampant censorship and lack of equitable culling towards their sycophants all across the board, but at least they weren't belligerent or overtly incendiary via their rhetoric.
CW/TW: Mention of racism + racism denial + race denial + whitewashing + and inclusions of links to message boards that include quite a hefty amount of racism + manipulative commenting + foul language + censorship + dismissiveness towards those attempting to criticize or call out what can easily be perceived as a racist project and racist messaging from the modder and/or commenters.

Hi I played myhouse.wad here is my thoughts on a narrative thing people seem intent on brushing off in favour of tired tropes.
Spoilers for myhouse.wad do not read this if you havent played it go and play it blind thx
So Thomas and Steven are heavily heavily implied to be husbands. The use of Intensely, Notably impersonal language in the journals is a whole other point to analyse irt its authorship but I digress, my (first) point is: Thomas is also Probably trans.
So in the airport you go into the womens bathroom and theres a pill bottle on the way in that says "needs a refill..." and then you do a little loop around the mirror and theres blood in the mirror then blood all over the place and blooddemons spawn in all around you... then you leave and there's a full pill bottle that says something like "such a relief" and when you come out the bathroom signs have switched and the bathroom you came out of is now the mens room.
Now the Le Reddit/gamer dood prevailing interpretation is apparently that this is... a coincidence? That the meticulous insane modder(s) who created this entire mindbending feat of technology Simply Forgot and its a total coincidence. Fuck off.
Now the prevailing theory also seems to be that the airport bloodbath is actually Thomas's father, evidenced by the same empty pill bottle being in the hospital room with the dead man. Nah, that's because they're both Thomas's fuckin pills and that's Thomas.
Steven (the PoV character as it were) is in the same hospital because this is a representation of the critical inciting event of the entire meta narrative: both of them having died, together, at home (probably in a house fire).
Everything we see in the mod represents scenes and events in their lives, and this is the point where Steven departs from the mortal coil and goes to join his husband Thomas, who is flatlining but nonetheless sat bolt upright, locking eyes with Steven who, in the context of the wider story is putting his affairs in order through the medium of Doom. CRUCIALLY this one hospital scene, where the video game gameplay rules of Doom (you die, you reload a save) are defied and we pass into a (god damn it) liminal space between the abstraction of the game and Death, is the only point where they are reunited.
Which then suggests to me that all the "Liminal Space" stuff and Backrooms references aren't just Fun References, but the Thematic Core of the piece, the passing between worlds. Hell, even the narrative being split between docs and the mod. It being a mod for a game at all.
Anyway I'll save this going on 10000 words because I could probably write interpretation for hours but... Myhouse.wad good.
Edit the following morning: There are hints to an "Anna" which the average Gamer assumes is some sadface ex-wife, but the main points where this is referenced are the airport scene and "S+A" in the bonfire/beach endings. Steven and Thomas are described as having reconnected with high school crushes/'friends'. The main time in your life where you're likely to carve your crush in a tree is when you're a teenager.
Steven had a crush on "Anna", reconnected decades later once he'd transitioned, the scenes of the game represent primarily parts of their life together, and in the final moments of the game (bonfire/beach endings) he's reflecting on when they met as kids.
Airport scene, besides the symbolism of journeys and beginnings, could also reference a miscarriage Thomas had at some point, possibly pre-transition since its where "Anna" comes up? (Stillborn baby is referenced a couple of times in the journal + baby bottle item ingame)
Anyway, myhouse.wad good.

The rest of the BG3 fandom is garbage, can I hide here and dream about Durgetash in peace?
Absolutely.
I don't like them very much either, tbh.
Like I love the art and the silly memes and the comics and some of the really lovely modders out there...but idk, it's such a big fandom.
It's hit the mainstream fandom critical mass...which means, it's full of assholes.
And discourse starters.
and it's unfortunately attracted just too many different groups too.
I like being gay and problematic.
I've also noticed a lot of Durgetash fans are like...in their twenties.
Thirties. Older.
So we don't have to deal with puriteens trying to insist we can't fuck Gortash because of his war crimes.
Like sweeties, we can't fuck Gortash because he's not REAL, thanks.
But yes, you are welcome.
This is our demented little dark corner, far away from their bright lights and immense noise...

bethesda is always easy to take potshots at but i think even without constant re-releases skyrim would've stayed relevant and maintained a huge community of modders and content creators so for all the jank etc, like, criticism isn't unwarranted but. it's fucking skyrim dude. like it's kind of stunning to think about how big in The Culture skyrim was in the early 2010s. it's literally skyrim

this is more artists and dignity stuff but only half-related. a while ago the main mod archive for ffxiv fractured (because the maintainers were bigoted freaks so, fair) but in the wake of it a lot of modders set up personal stores/discords and started charging money. if you gripe about this they try to guilt you with “so you don’t want me to get paid for my labor?” but yeah, i don’t, that’s what i actually believe. having a kofi or whatever is fine, but the new culture of permanent paywalls only sprung up because of opportunists after the main archive fell apart and now we’re supposed to pretend that crying about how hard it is makes that opportunism okay. (never mind that modding is against tos and the devs have been pretty gracious about it so far, but every $30k for feet mods incident (real thing) brings us closer to modding actually being cracked down on)
and i just don’t think game mods should be paid in general.
lol its incredibly frustrating to see people who have come into a public space with the explicit intent to further monetize it them and present their work like its essential labor.
its like. if you were in a public park, or a critically acclaimed park with with a free trial that goes up until Level 70 and the entire Stormblood Expansion, and some asshole comes in and installs a slide he charges people to ride, you would think he was a total asshole.

So Minthara would initially automatically break up with a Durge who resisted Bhaal and now she doesn’t?
tl;dr: Minthara has always warned Druge that she'd break up with them when their intention of rejecting Bhaal is revealed to her, however, the actual breakup never comes. Her breakup dialogue with Durge starts to trigger for real after Hotfix #21. There's been overwhelmingly negative reaction to it, so as of Hotfix #22 the dialogue is removed.
But if you want a deep dive...
When it comes to Minthara content it's a bit tricky to say what is meant to be there, planned content, etc. and what is not, because of how bugged she is. At launch, all of her romanced content past Act 1 is not accessible.
Take her love confession scene aka the "alurlssrin" dialogue for example. Crucial, cornerstone, groundbreaking and heartwarming kind of dialogue. It has always been in the code, recorded and mocapped.
It shows up in the datamine since launch, some modders even managed to trigger it through cheats, but was only officially announced to be in game by Patch 5 (Nov 30 2023), 3 months after launch.
From Patch 5 notes: “A romanced Minthara can now refer to her bond with you using a drow word for deep, unbreakable love.“
Announcement is a thing, and actually being in game is another. The "alurlssrin" dialogue would not be accessible in game until Patch 6, Feb 16 2024. Yep, this year, last month. It isn't mentioned anywhere in the patch notes.
Worse yet, the second part of this dialogue is still not reachable without external cheats.
Like the "alurlssrin" dialogue, the breakup dialogue has always been available in the code and voice data dumps (since Launch) as far as I'm concerned, however, it was only made accessible in game as of Hotfix #21.
There's one dialogue that's has always been in game where, if you tell Minthara that you plan to resist Bhaal, she'd warn and hint of this breakup. I had initially just thought that well, the breakup is here because it is yet another bugged dialogue got patched in.
It wasn't announced in the patch notes, but at this point most of us who'd keep track of Minthara bugs has completely lost trust in what the patch notes say regarding Minthara. What we were promise is never what we actually get.
Then comes the criticism of this piece of dialogue and eventual removal at the most reccent Hotfix #22.
It's difficult to tell if this really is "legacy" content or was this a backpaddling due to overwhelmingly negative reaction (especially when the warning dialogue was there in game since the beginning). Previously, iirc the only "confirmed" cut content was the pregnancy storyline.
So, verdict? I don't even know anymore. What really is "initially"? *gets philosophical and falls asleep immediately*.
Either way, in its removal, we're left with "You wish to consult me" as a reaction to someone who'd just died by the hands of their murder daddy god and resurrected by the weird mummy that lives in camp. It's one of those Lose - Lose kind of situation rn.

of course EA should be criticized first and foremost for the lack of disability representation in the sims franchise, but it’s also discouraging to me how sims modders have managed to make thousands of blowjob animations but not a single functional wheelchair

Et tu, Tumblr?
The second season of Shadow and Bone is here, and with it, some brand new ships, so don’t forget to tag and filter your spoilers. Things are getting awfully dark in Trigun Stampede, while the first episode of Ted Lasso’s third season has given everyone a new way to pronounce “POO-peeeh.” Taylor Swift is in her Eras era, and we hope everyone who managed to get concert tickets has a blast. The My Chemical Romance reunion tour is wrapping up with two final concerts in Japan this week. Fanfic authors rejoice—there’s a whole new Hozier EP to pull fic titles from. The Sims 4 has infants now so modders are hard at work. Finally, the Ides of March came and went, and with it, a slew of polls, memes, jokes, and history lessons. This is Tumblr’s Week in Review.

Joy List
Thank you for the tag @acmartin 🌹
Rules: Make a list of all of the things that have made you happy recently! Then, tag as many people as you want that you think may need it to keep the positivity going 💕
Reaching 100,000 words for my WIP. It's an amazing feat and I'm not done yet.
Finally having the chance to write scenes that I looked so forward to writing.
I'm looking forward to the editing process when I can re-outline, cut some scenes, and keep everything cohesive. Rewriting is critical because I want to share my WIP, just not in its current state.
Baking an Oreo cake and a lemon pie.
I have a good idea of which WIP I will focus on after this one. I have a couple of other pet projects that I hope to focus on while I wait for beta readers to come back for current WIP.
Even though my YouTube/TikTok videos don't get many views, they are fun to make and make me laugh. I've had fun going through CapCut templates to use and also have ideas of my own.
When a friend asks me how my writing is doing, it brightens me up. I love to talk about it.
Pleased that even as imperfect as my writing is, I feel accomplished to see my writing improve. My writing was trash 10-15 years ago. Now I feel that I can be proud of what I'm writing.
Scambaiters as always make me laugh and cheer. I love to tune in to Trilogy Media, Modder Paul Scambaits, and Kitboga. They made some high quality videos lately. I admire the vigilantes hard at work.
Beautiful music and ambience on YouTube inspires me. Epic music inspires me to envision the type of mood to evoke. I can feel my character's emotions and goals in the music. There's also Dystopia themed music and ambience that sets the mood for my genre. I thank the YouTubers who made the music.
Those YouTubers also keep me motivated because they want to read my writing when it's available. The sooner I learn to be a good writer and get my work out there, the sooner they can become my readers.
Tagging these fine people (hope you don't mind the tag)🦢
