quick summary: everyone deserves someone to comfort them in their time of need, even the ones that always lend their shoulder
Tumblr media
Ah, yes, dogfight football. Maverick’s way of creating a team. You play offense and defense at the same time. Tackling each other into the sand, sometimes into the water. It may be chaotic, but it’s fun and a great team building exercise.
Which is why you hated that you were running a little behind.
You sighed as you got out of your car and walked over to where Penny was sitting at the table.
You placed your aviators on your head, “I’m not late am I?” Penny chuckled and shook her head, “Just in time. Want a beer before you go?” You shook your head, “Nah, I’m okay right now. Care to watch my stuff?”
The brunette gestured to the items in front of her, chuckling, “I’m watchin’ everyone else's. I don’t see why not.” You chuckled and sat your wallet, phone, and keys down, as well as your sunglasses. You slipped off your shorts, folding them and laying them down.
“Nivans!”
You turned at the call of your last name, brows raised in curiosity.
 It was Maverick.
“Hurry up and get down here!”
You turned to Penny, “This is gonna be fun.” You both laughed before you jogged across the sand to meet everyone by the water.
“Sorry I’m late, Mav.”
Maverick shook his head, “You’re not late, Rockstar. Can’t be late for fun.”
“Not gonna take your t-shirt off?” Phoenix asked when you stood beside her. You shook your head, “Nah, I’m good.”
Hangman sighed, “That’s a shame.”
You chuckled at him and bent down to throw a handful of sand at him.
“Watch it, Rockstar,” Hangman said, his voice light as he glared at you playfully.
“Or what, Hangman?” You challenged, eyes narrowed but a smile pulled at your lips.
Now, you and Hangman joked like this all the time. You considered each other best friends, which confused everyone else on base.
Jake Seresin was an asshole. He was cocky and arrogant. You, Y/N Nivans, were not an asshole. Quite the opposite, actually.
You were humble while still knowing your worth, but also showing anybody up if they proposed a challenge, and not being sour when you lost.
Jake went out looking for competition, you let it come to you.
You were also probably the sweetest thing to walk the planet. Most certainly the sweetest to walk the airstrip.
You were nice to everyone, always giving someone the benefit of the doubt until they truly proved they were an asshole.
You also took care of your team, they were your family. You always had the door open if someone needed to talk. Your arms were wide open when they showed up in the middle of the night because they had a nightmare and couldn’t shake it. You were their rock.
So, when you walked into the Hard Deck that first day of the Uranium Mission and hugged Hangman, everyone was confused — except Coyote who knew you from a year prior. But they didn’t verbally question you, choosing instead to ponder in private.
Hangman sighed, “Come on, Rocky. You're giving your enemy the advantage.” He tugged at your shirt and pulled you into his arms.
You laughed and pushed him away by his chest, “You’re gonna have to catch me first.” Hangman cocked his head to the side, “Oooh, that’s how it is?” You nodded, a smirk playing on your lips, “That’s how it is.”
Tumblr media
You panted as you used your shirt to wipe the sweat from your face.
When you let go of your shirt you raised your arms, calling for the ball. They threw it to you and you took off for your endzone.
You felt the sand shift and you knew Hangman was behind you. You had to get rid of the ball, so you called out to your teammate, “Phoenix!” She ran ahead of you and you threw her the ball.
As soon as the ball was out of your hand, Hangman tackled you to the ground.
You laughed as you laid on your stomach, arms out in front of you.
“What was that about ‘catching you’?” Jake grunted from above you.
You didn’t have to look at him to know he was smirking. “Haha, very funny Hangman. Now get off, you’re heavy.”
“First, ouch. Second, nah, you’re comfy.” You laughed and shook your head, attempting to push off the ground and basically buck him off.
But, Hangman wouldn’t let you, laughing as he moved and made you fall back down.
In this new position, Hangman was putting pressure on a certain part of your back and panic shot through you.
“Seriously, dude, get up,” you tried to say with a laugh, not wanting to sound rude or like you were mad at him. He just smiled and rested his chin on his hands.
You closed your eyes and tried to control your breathing, but the waves hitting you pushed you over the edge.
“Jake, get the fuck off me.” You didn’t mean to sound harsh but you were panicking.
Jake was surprised by your tone, along with the use of his first name. He immediately got up and held out a hand for you to take but you just got up and ran to the table.
“Rockstar, where you going?” Maverick asked. You called out while still running, “I need a break for a minute.”
You got to the table, “Is it unlocked?” Penny nodded, “Yeah, why?” “Bathroom break.” Penny just nodded again and watched you take your sunglasses with you as you jogged inside.
Rooster ran over and hit Jake’s arm, “What did you do, Hangman?” Jake shook his head, “I’m not sure.” He put his hands on his hips and watched you disappear into the bar.
He felt bad, he wanted to chase after you and apologize but he didn’t know what he did.
“Well, you seemed to piss her off,” Phoenix said, shoving the ball into his chest.
Maverick looked at Penny but she just shrugged, meaning you didn’t say much.
Tumblr media
You ran into the bathroom, throwing yourself into a stall.
You leaned over the toilet and waited to throw up. Tears had started running down your face the minute you stepped in the bar. You coughed and sobbed lightly as you tried to control your breathing.
After a few minutes of that, the nausea subsided and you slowly stood to go to the sink.
You turned the cold water on and splashed your face.
“Shit…”
You closed your eyes as the tight feeling in your chest loosened. You let out a shaky breath and looked in the mirror, cringing at the puffiness around your eyes. You grabbed your sunglasses and slipped them on before leaving the bathroom.
When you stepped outside you saw Maverick and Penny talking, and when you sat down they stopped talking and looked at you concerned.
“You alright? Gave Hangman quite the scare for a second,” Mav asked, squaring his shoulders to you. You nodded, resting your forearms on the table. “Yeah, I’m fine.” You rubbed your forehead, “Hey Pen-”
Before you could finish your sentence, a beer was sat in front of you, causing you to giggle, “Read my mind.”
Tumblr media
As he continued to play, Jake still couldn’t get over the fact that you called him ‘Jake’ during a day out.
It wasn’t that you never did, but it was rare that you called anyone by their first name.
But it wasn’t just that, it was the way you said that really made him worry. He had never heard your voice sound like that before.
He looked at you from his spot on the beach, noticing you didn’t come back to join in the fun.
Hangman walked up to Phoenix, worried that he had really upset you and wanted help from the girl you were closest to. “You don’t really think I pissed her off, do you?”
She sighed, “I don’t know, Hangman. Even if you did, I doubt she could stay mad at you for long. She can't be mad at anyone for very long.”
Jake nodded and watched you stand up from your spot at the table.
Tumblr media
You finished your beer and stood up, “I’m gonna head out.”
Maverick frowned, “You sure you’re okay, Y/N?”
“Yeah, I’m okay. I just really need to shower. I’ve got sand in places sand shouldn’t be,” you said with a light laugh.
“Okay, drive safe. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Yes, sir.” You collected your stuff and headed to your car.
Tumblr media
Jake noticed you leaving and tilted his head, “Hey…” He patted Coyote on the shoulder. “I’ll be right back.”
He jogged up to the table to ask Maverick if he knew anything.
“Is she okay?” Hangman asked as soon as he came to a stop. Maverick shrugged, not looking up at the pilot, “She seemed okay. Said she needed to shower.”
Jake let out a breath, “So she isn’t mad at me?”
“I didn’t say that. But as far as I can tell, she’s just tired.”
Jake licked the sweat off his upper lip, putting his hands on his hips as he looked down.
“Hangman, honey, just go talk to her. If she’s upset with you, she’ll be honest about it,” Penny encouraged, giving Jake a small smile. He nodded and jogged to go find you before you left.
You were standing by your car, the door opened as you moved to get in when he approached.
“Hey, Y/N,” Jake called as he walked over to you. You smiled, “Hey, Hangman.”
Jake swallowed, “Look, I’m sorry about earlier. I was just messing around. I did-”
You held your hand up, cutting him off, “Jake, I’m not mad at you. I know you were just playing. But your tackle jump started my bladder and I wasn’t kidding when I said you were heavy.” You giggled a bit to show him you were teasing.
Hangman visibly relaxed at the sound, “Okay, good. I know I like to get under everyone’s skin. Sometimes I don’t know when to knock it off. I–”
You held up your hand, cutting him off. “Jake, I can handle your teasing. Yeah, you can get a little mean. But I know it’s all a big show. Come here,” you opened your arms and made grabby hands at Jake.
He just shook his head and chuckled, pulling you in by your outstretched hands and letting them find their place around his built torso.
He rubbed his hand on your back, nearly missing the slight tensing right beneath your shoulder blades before they relaxed. His brow furrowed but he didn’t mention it, thinking that maybe it was you tightening your arms around him.
He kissed the top of your head before you pulled away.
“Geez, Jake, you’re sweaty.”
“You’re not too dry yourself, Rockstar.” You laughed and playfully shoved him away. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Y/N.” You smiled and slid into your car, “I’ll kick your ass tomorrow Hangman.”
He scoffed leaning on the roof of your car and the open door. “Since when did you get so cocky?”
You smirked and placed your glasses on your head, forgetting that your eyes could still be red and puffy from earlier. “It’s not cocky if it’s the truth.”
Jake shook his head and looked back to the shore. “Uh-huh. We’ll see.” He leaned back and patted the top of your car. “Drive safe.” You nodded, and he closed your door.
He watched you start it up before driving away.
Jake shook his head and made his way back to the group.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the group, they had all noticed the change in Jake when you showed up at the Hard Deck a few months ago.
While he was still his cocky self, having no shame in bragging and trash talking, he seemed to tone it down when you were around.
They also noticed how he always made sure to find you in the crowd, keeping an eye on you. Coyote joked that you had Hangman wrapped around your finger, that he would be at your side with a simple look.
Jake was painfully aware of the effect you had on him.
When he met you a year ago, he was starstruck by your dazzling smile.
So, naturally, in true Hangman fashion, he flirted with you.
With a toothpick between his perfect white teeth and his bright green eyes shining under the yellow lights of the bar, he walked up to you.
“I sure hope no one left you alone.”
When you turned, eyeing him up and down to take in the uniform, beer bottle popping as it left your mouth, his breath was ripped from his lungs.
“Well, you’re here now. I’m not alone.”
Seeing your smile up close caused Hangman to blush, and leaving him thankful that his tan could somewhat hide it.
“Well, ain’t I special.”
You nodded, giggling while looking down at the bar, “That you are. But, before this can go any further, I’m gonna be honest, I’m more dedicated to my work than anything else at the moment. And I have to be up by 5, so I’d hate to lead you on.”
Jake shook his head, but you continued, gesturing around the bar, “I’m sure there are plenty of girls here that would love to get attention from you and give you attention.”
Jake smiled –not smirked, smiled– while leaning on the bar, “Well, the only one I want attention from is you. Plus, I can’t stay out too late either. Gotta be at work early too, so I guess we’re both clocking in early.”
None of the feelings that day had been one sided. You also had been starstruck by Hangman.
He was broad shoulder, tall, tan, and had a voice that could make a girl swoon in a second. But you knew he was a pilot, his uniform gave it away, and you knew how they acted. Except, you liked Jake’s company and decided to talk all night with him.
Ironically, what you both did for work never came up.
So, imagine the look on Jake’s face when he saw you the next day in your flight suit.
“You didn’t tell me you were a pilot.”
You smirked, “You didn’t ask.”
He shook his head, biting his lower lip to hide his smile but failed.
You nodded to him, “What do they call you?”
“Hangman. What about you?” You smiled, “Rockstar.”
You were able to peg why he earned his callsign very early on but he couldn’t seem to figure yours out.
Until he had a close call and couldn’t shake it.
Tumblr media
The last day of training had just ended, tomorrow you might not come home, and to say you were nervous was a major understatement.
As you changed to get ready to go out with the squad, you couldn’t stop shaking. You knew you needed a drink… okay a couple drinks.
While you changed, Hangman was walking around, looking for you.
When he walked past the locker room, he caught a glimpse of you reaching to pick something up.
He turned to walk in, but stopped when he saw that you only had your pants on. But, before he could stop himself, his eyes trailed up your back; starting from above your waistline on your pants and going up.
Then he stopped, his eyes widening when he saw the large scar that looked fairly new – maybe a year or so old. It spanned from the middle of your left shoulder blade to nearly below your ribcage and was positioned diagonally across your back.
Jake quickly looked away, realizing that you must have not wanted anyone to see it if you hadn’t told him.
His brow furrowed as questions ran through his mind. Was that why you freaked out during dogfight football, the other day? Why you always tense up when you get an unexpected touch there?
Shit… He thought, feeling like a horrible friend for never noticing and never asking.
Jake took a deep breath and walked away, choosing to approach the locker room differently and pretend he never saw you.
He put on a smile and walked back towards the locker room, “Hey, Rockstar! You almost ready?” He stopped just short of the door, leaning his back against the wall.
Your head jerked up as you pulled your t-shirt down. “Uh, yeah, Hangman. I’ll be ready in a second.”
You finished getting ready and walked out, jumping slightly when he pushed off the wall.
“Geez Hang, don’t do that!” You punched his arm.
“Gosh, I forgot how hard you punch.” He chuckled and rubbed the spot on his arm as you both walked to the parking lot.
Tumblr media
You all sat in the Hard Deck, drinking and playing pool.
“Dude, she’s kicking your ass!” Payback laughed as he clapped Hangman on the shoulder.
You were, in fact, kicking Jake’s ass in pool. You couldn’t help the giggle that escaped as the blond narrowed his eyes at Payback.
“Yeah, you feelin’ okay? You’ve been off your game tonight Bagman,” Rooster commented, smirking as he drank his alcohol.
Instead of clapping back at the jab, Jake just rolled his eyes and lined up his shot.
That made you frown, Hangman always had a comeback. Always had sarcastic quips to embarrass the other person. But he was silent.
You made eye contact when he stood, silently asking if he was okay. He just nodded and moved to sink another pool ball.
You didn’t want to drop it, but you did for the sake of having fun before facing the chance of death tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Sometime later, after a few rounds of pool and drinks, you all stood around and just talked.
“Hey, did you guys hear about that one pilot that saved her WSO’s life when they got shot down?” Bob asked, looking around the group.
You clenched your jaw slightly, but not enough for anyone to notice.
“Bob, that happens all the time. It’s kinda what we do,” Phoenix said, squeezing his shoulder.
Rooster stood up and sat his beer down. “No, not the way this pilot did. Bob, I know who you’re talking about. I read the mission file, the only thing that was classified was the pilot and WSO’s names.”
You swirled the beer in your glass, not looking up from the amber liquid. “Did the pilot survive?”
When you finished asking, you looked up, trying to ignore the watchful eyes of Hangman as you met Rooster’s eyes.
The latter nodded, “Uh, yeah. Yeah, she did. But she had a pretty serious injury. I’m not sure if she was ever clear to fly again.”
You nodded and looked back down at your glass.
“And the WSO?” Jake asked, eyeing you as you downed the rest of your drink before looking at Rooster and Bob.
“He survived. But I don’t know if he still flies,” Bob answered.
“Well, that’s good that they both survived,” you said, your smile returning to your face.
Rooster shook his head a bit, “Yeah, but that pilot pulled a risky move. Saving some like that…”
Your smile dropped a bit, “People have their reasons.” You raised your glass, “I’m gonna go get another drink.”
Hangman watched you leave as the conversation changed into something more light hearted.
Jake took a step to go after you but Coyote caught his arm. “Hey, come on. Play me in a round of pool. Let’s see if you still got your game.” Jake looked from his friend back to you and saw you laughing with Penny and Maverick at the bar. That allowed him to relax a little bit.
“Oh, I still got my game. Let’s see if you found yours,” he smirked. “There he is!” Coyote laughed and clapped Jake on the back.
Tumblr media
As Jake played pool with Coyote, you talked with Penny and Maverick.
“Are you serious?”
You nodded, laughing at Penny’s reaction to you telling her how you and Jake met.
“Pen, why are you surprised? Hangman flirts with every girl,” Maverick said, using his hand to point the direction of the mentioned pilot. You and Penny both nodded your agreement.
“Sounds familiar,” Penny says, a playful grin on her face making Maverick roll his eyes.
You had become so invested in your conversation with Penny and Mav, that you missed Rooster coming up behind you.
He placed his hand on your back, right on your scar, making you tense and jump in surprise.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare ya’ Rocky,” he took his hand off and leaned on the bar.
“You doin’ okay? You seemed a bit…” He glanced back at the group, thinking of the right word. “...tense a minute ago.”
You bit the inside of your lip, had you really been that obvious?
Still, you nodded and gave him your best smile.
But to him, he could see that it didn’t reach your eyes. He may not have been your best friend, but he had seen plenty of your genuine smiles and this one did not make your eyes shine like the others.
Bradley decided not to press, “Okay…” He turned to Penny, “Penny, could we get another round?” The bartender nodded, “Of course, but you’re reaching your cut off.”
Penny had set a cut off for drinks for the pilots not wanting them to go into this mission hungover. You chuckled and glanced back at the group, all of them messing around and having fun. “Yes ma’am.”
You turned to Rooster and then back down to your empty glass. Penny hadn’t refilled it yet, having started a conversation with you as soon as you came over.
You glanced at your watch, seeing that you had been there for a couple hours.
Penny sat a tray down, placing the full glasses on top. “There you are, Rooster. Who’s tab?”
Rooster opened his mouth to tell her to put it on his, but you beat him to it, “Put it on mine Pen.”
“You got the last round, Rockstar,” Rooster argued. You shrugged, “I don’t mind. Plus, I’m closing my tab for tonight.”
“What? You’re heading out already?” You nodded, sliding Penny your card, “I’m hitting my limit, Roos.”
Bradley searched your eyes for a moment, looking for any indication that something was wrong.
You were usually the one that made sure everyone was okay to go home and if they needed rides; so leaving early rung bells in Rooster’s head.
Penny gave you your card and receipt, “Thank you.” “Thanks Pen,” you gave her a smile before turning back to Rooster.
“Tell ‘em I’m heading out. I know if I do it I won’t be able to leave.” You gave him a one armed hug and turned to Maverick, “See you in the morning, Captain.”
“See you in the morning, Rockstar.”
Penny gently squeezed your hand, giving you a small smile as you slid off the bar stool and walked out.
Rooster, Maverick, and Penny watched you leave the building before turning to each other, concern written all over their faces.
“Is she okay? She’s been acting a little off ever since dogfight football the other day,” Penny asked the two pilots.
They both shrugged, Bradley looking up at her. “I was about to ask you the same thing.”
“I’ve noticed, but I thought it was just because Harvard and Yale had to eject the other day,” Mav admitted. “We were all a little shaken up by that…”
It was silent for a minute.
“You know… if one person knows anything, it’d probably be Seresin,” Penny said, pointing over to the pilot, who was very invested in the game he was winning, and basically suggesting that they talk to him.
Bradley sighed, knowing that Penny was right and if anyone knew you the best, it would be him. He grabbed the tray, thanking Penny and walking over to the group.
They all cheered when he sat the tray down, taking a glass for themselves.
Jake noticed that there was an extra and he frowned in confusion before he realized it was for you.
He looked up, eyes searching for you in the crowd, panicking a little when he couldn’t see you, “Where’s Rockstar?”
Rooster sighed, “She closed her tab and left. Said she reached her limit.”
Fanboy frowned a little bit, “Why didn’t she just tell us herself?”
Rooster shrugged, “Said if she did it would take longer for her to leave.”
“Does she seem different to you guys?” Coyote asked, finally voicing his concern that had buit up over the last few days.
The group shared a look before making small noises of agreement.
“I mean, she’s still the same Y/N. Still lighting up a room and being there for us like she always has been… I just… I don’t know.”
Rooster looked at Jake, “Hangman, you’re like her best friend, do you know anything?”
Jake shrugged and shook his head, “All I know is she’s nervous for tomorrow and the accident the other day shook her up a bit, but she hasn’t said anything else.”
He took a large gulp from his beer, hoping to swallow the confession of seeing your scar that he wanted to bring to light.  You trusted Jake and he wasn’t about to ruin that by telling the squad what he saw when he wasn’t even supposed to know it was there.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, you walked the beach, taking in the fresh and salty air. You just needed the quiet time before you went home.
You sighed and pulled out your phone, seeing a text from Hangman and laughing slightly at the message.
Hangboy: Hey, I get that I kicked your ass those last few rounds of pool, but you could have told me you were leaving. I would have walked you out. Text me when you get home.
Also, there was an extra beer. I assume it was meant for you, but you left so I drank it. Don’t worry though, I can handle it.
You shook your head and opened your phone, but not to text Jake.
You went to your contacts and pressed the caller ID, putting the phone to your ear as it rang.
“Hey, Rockstar, what's up? It’s been awhile.”
You smiled, sighing, “Sure has been, Tundra. How are you? How’s the little one?” “I’m good. Ben is great, he wants to know when you’ll be by again to visit.”
You giggled at the fact the 6 year old wanted to see you. “Soon… hopefully.” “Y/N, I know that voice. Is it happening again?” You shook your head, despite the fact that Tundra couldn’t see you.
“No, no. Well, sorta, but this is different Diego.” You heard him shift, presumably crossing his arms. “What do you mean?”
You sighed, remembering that you couldn’t share all that much about the mission, even if he was former Navy.
“I don’t know how much I can tell you. But I got called back to TopGun, and I could be flying out on a mission tomorrow. A dangerous one.”
“Y/N, do they know?”
You shook your head again, this time to fight tears. “No, but I’m scared that mid air, I’m gonna freeze. I don’t wanna freeze, Diego. I haven’t frozen since our incident. But I don’t know what’s been wrong these past couple of weeks. I can’t seem to shake off this dread… this-this fear. I do-don’t-”
He cut you off, “Have you talked to anyone recently?”
You were silent and he took that as a no. “Y/N, you have to talk about it if you ever want to move past it.”  “I did though. I had mandated therapy for my entire time in recovery.” “And have you been since you recovered?”
You threw a hand up, frustrated, “I thought I was past it! I hadn’t had an attack in a year, not until we were playing football. I-I thought it was just a one time thing, and then something happened during training and I just-”
You were cut off by a small, tired voice.
“Is that Aunt Y/N?”
“It is. Do you want to talk to her? I think she needs to talk to you.” “Yes, please!” You smiled as you heard the phone go to speaker and then be passed to the little boy.
“Hey, Aunt Y/N!”
You smiled, tears finally falling, “Benarino, hey buddy.” “I miss you. When are you coming to visit?” You wiped at your eyes with a shaking hand. “Soon, buddy. Really soon,” you sniffled.
“Aunt Y/N, why are you crying?”
You laughed, coughing a little at the end, “I just really miss you Benny. I can’t wait to see you.”
You looked back at the Hard Deck, seeing your fellow pilots laugh and sing.
“I’m gonna bring a friend too. If that’s okay with your mom and dad?” “That’s alright with me, Rockstar. I’m sure Lila won’t mind.”
“Who is it?”
You brought playfulness into your voice, “You remember the pilot I told you about? The one that thought he could fly better than your Aunt Rocky?”
The little boy giggled, “Yeah!” “Well, I think it’s about time you brought home the boy that stole your heart.”
“Diego,” you hissed. “We are just friends.” “Mhmm, sure.” You scoffed, rolling your eyes, “You should probably get Ben to bed before Lila wakes up.”
You heard Diego grunt as he picked up his son, “Goodnight Benny Boy.” “G’night Aunt Y/N.”
“Call me when you make it back.” You nodded, hand sliding into your back pocket, “Yeah, of course. Night Tundra.” “Night Rockstar.”
The call ended and you slid your phone into your unoccupied back pocket.
You took in a deep breath, trying to relax again. In through the nose, out through the mouth. In, out.
On an inhale, the scent of smoke filled your nostrils and it made you hold your breath.
Quickly looking around, you spotted a bonfire a couple yards away. Realizing it was harmless, you let out the breath and tried to relax your shoulders.
But, despite knowing it was completely harmless, your body went into a state of panic. Your chest tightened, limbs went numb, pain spread through your back, and tears filled your eyes.
You held a hand to your chest, the air stopping just before it made it to your lungs, and stumbled to your car as fast as you could, hoping you weren’t seen by your friends inside the bar.
Tumblr media
Jake looked at his phone as he left the bar. You hadn’t texted him, and by now you definitely should have been back to your on base bungalow.
Hangman wasn’t going to panic, he knew you well enough that you would have texted or called him if something bad happened. Of course he felt anxious, who wouldn’t, but he was going to remain calm.
The reason you hadn’t texted him when you got home was because the moment you fumbled yourself into your place, you booked it for the bathroom.
Your knees smacked into the tile and you threw up whatever alcohol you had consumed before the strangled sob ripped itself from your throat. You crumbled to the tile as your chest refused to let air in.
Your skin felt hot and sticky, sweat coating it as you laid on your bathroom floor. It wasn’t helping you, your damp, hot skin sending you back to one of the worst days of your life.
So, in a frenzy, you ripped off your shirt and kicked off your shoes and socks before yanking your pants off, not even loosening your belt.
You crawled over the tub wall, too dizzy to properly stand, before fumbling with the knob to turn the water on.
Once you got it turned on, you jostled the faucet switch, a desperate sob escaping as it kept falling down before it finally stuck, turning the shower on and drenching you in water.
And that was how Jake found you.
Tumblr media
Jake decided to stop by your place and check on you, that being his only option to get his anxiety to go away.
When he pulled up to your place and saw your car there, he let out a breath of relief.
He parked his truck behind your car and ran to your door, his chest lighter than before.
But his chest became heavy again when he made it to your door only to find it unlocked. You rarely left your door unlocked, if ever.
He cautiously pushed it open, looking around to see if anything was out of place.
Your keys were on the floor, your phone and wallet not too far from them.
Jake walked further in, making sure to close and lock the door behind him.
He held his breath as he looked for you. But his search was cut short when he heard the shower running.
He exhaled and had to take a minute to calm the drumming in his chest.
He cautiously walked to the bathroom, making sure to knock before walking in. He kept his head down so he didn’t see anything he wasn’t supposed to… again.
“Hey I was-”
The door stopped, hitting something on the floor.
Hangman squinted his eyes in confusion. It was your shoe. He kicked it out of the way and pushed the door open enough for him to just step in and close it.
He stopped with his hand on the door, realizing that the room didn’t feel like a sauna. There was no fog covering the mirrors and steam wasn’t filling the small space. You always showered hot, and right now the bathroom was freezing.
Jake finally looked up and saw you curled in the shower, the water cascading from the faucet and hitting your back. It was obvious you had been there for a while because you were shivering.
Jake sat on the edge of the tub cautiously, not wanting to startle you.
His heart broke at the sound of your quiet crying and the puffy redness of your eyes was a sight Jake never wanted to see again.
The eyes that usually held the brightness of the stars and a kindness that was unmatched, were now red, distant, and constantly filled with tears that fell over and mixed with the water drenching you.
He hated it.
Jake held his hand under the water and recoiled at how cold it was.
“Shit,” he cursed as he quickly turned it off.
When you didn’t react, he knew you truly weren’t in this reality.
“Y/N,” he spoke gently and touched your arm. He sharply inhaled when he discovered how cold you were. “Y/N, darlin’, we need to dry you off and get you in some warm clothes. You’ll get sick.”
Jake wasn’t sure if you heard him because you just stared ahead, biting on your nail. He sighed and pulled your hand away from your mouth.
He moved to pull his hand back but you grabbed it, your freezing cold hand latching onto his warm one. “Please don’t… Jake, please don’t leave.”
Your voice was quiet and broken, raw with fear. And he was sure that sent a shiver up his back.
Jake quickly shifted to kneel beside the tub, his thumb rubbing back and forth on your hand. “I’d never leave you hangin’.”
He looked you over, “Can I pick you up?” You nodded, letting his hand slip from your grip and feel it wrap under your legs.
He awkwardly shifted to lean over and pick you up, grunting a little as stood up. He was too pressed about his clothes getting wet, he’s sure he’s got pants somewhere around here.
Jake managed to open the bathroom door and walked to your bedroom.
He sat you on the bed and quickly grabbed the towel on the back of your desk chair.
Wrapping it around you, Jake kissed the top of your head. “You’re okay. You’re safe,” he spoke gently against your hair.
He pulled back and watched you bite your lip to keep your tears hidden.
You avoided his eyes, looking at your shaking hands.
“I’m gonna get you some clothes, okay?” You slowly nodded, lip trembling before you bit down on it again.
Your eyes didn’t follow him as he walked around your room, but your ears were very aware of Jake’s noises; everything from his footsteps to his mumbling.
In under five minutes, neatly folded clothes were placed beside you and Jake kneeled in front of you, his large hands resting on your biceps gently.
“Do you want me to stay while you change?”
It took you a second to register what he had asked, but he was patient and rubbed reassuring circles on your arms with his thumbs.
You inhaled, the familiar scent of his cologne calming you down a bit.
You were tempted to say yes, you didn’t want to be alone but you also didn’t want Jake to see you any more vulnerable than he already has.
You shook your head, unconsciously pulling the towel tighter around you.
Jake noticed it and nodded, “Okay, I’ll go tidy up your bathroom and throw some blankets in the dryer to fluff them up and get ‘em warm.” He gave you a small smile and stood, leaving the room and the door open just a crack.
You managed to peel off the wet bra and underwear, drying off before changing.
That simple task was exhausting. It felt like your bones had turned to rocks and your muscles no longer existed. But eventually, you did it.
You haphazardly dried your hair, basically just dry enough to where it wasn’t dripping, and walked into the small living room.
You sat on the couch, deciding to occupy your hands with your oversized shirt while you waited for Jake.
Minutes later he was on the couch beside you, wrapping you in the fresh-out-of-the-dryer blanket.
“Thank you…” Your voice had a rawness to it that made Jake shiver, something was really wrong and he didn’t know how to help.
He nodded and rubbed your upper back, “Of course.”
He sat there for a moment, just listening to your sniffles and weeping exhales, before finally turning to face you.
“What’s going on? ‘Cause this-” He gestured to you and your current state. “-is way more than just nerves for tomorrow.”
“I’ll be-”
“If you say ‘fine’, I swear,” he sighed to control his volume. “Y/N, you are not fine.”
“Jake…”
The blond pilot took a deep breath, looking at the sliver of couch cushion between you. “I saw it…”
If you weren’t going to be honest, then he needed to be. Maybe what he saw is connected to what was shaking you to your core all of a sudden.
He finally looked up at you and watched your breathing halt as fear filled your eyes.
Jake continued, making sure to keep his tone even, “I didn’t mean to. I was just looking for you in the locker room today and I-” He stopped talking when you choked out a small cry.
He immediately pulled you into his lap, one hand going to the back of your head and the other arm wrapped around your lower back. “I got you… I got you.”
Jake closed his eyes and rocked you a little as his mind went back to the day these roles were reversed.
Tumblr media
Jake had sat in the locker room, flight suit half off and tied around his waist. His knee bouncing as his eyes went in and out of focus.
“Hangman!” You called as you ran down the hall. But he couldn’t hear you with the blood still rushing in his ears.
“Hangman! Hang- There you are!” You jogged to him and saw that his emerald eyes were blank, not the playful or confident eyes you normally saw. “Hey, Hang- Jake what’s wrong?” You knelt in front of him, putting a hand on his bouncing knee to stop it.
Jake looked at you, the concern swimming in your eyes breaking whatever resolve he had left.
The tears he tried so hard to hold in finally spilled down his cheeks.
You instantly cupped his face in your hands, wiping them away, “What’s got you so shaken up? I’ve never seen you like this.”
He shook his head, pushing your hands away as he sat up and leaned against the locker. “You’re not supposed to.”
You sighed and leaned back on your heels, “What happened up there?”
Jake wiped the still flowing tears, shaking his head, “I don’t know. I guess- Fuck I don’t know, Rockstar.”
You stood, “Talk to me, Jake. Please, I’m your friend and I want to help.”
Your tone was desperate and worried. This was a new version of Jake that you would have never seen if you hadn’t followed him off the tarmac.
Hangman finally got the guts to grab your hand and squeeze it. He took a deep breath as he tried to collect himself.
“I almost lost you up there. You’re one of my closest friends, we’ve only known each other for a few months and I feel like we’ve known each other forever. I never let myself be that close to anyone, but you made it so easy.”
His voice was raw and shaky. He was scared, but you couldn’t blame him. What just happened to you both was really intense and it was scary. But you were both okay.
You squeezed his hand back, giving him a soft but encouraging smile.
“Can we just- Shit this is gonna sound so weird…”
You knew where he was going, so you straddled his legs and wrapped him in a hug. “I got you Jake, I got you.”
Tumblr media
That was when Jake realized the backstory to your call sign. You were everyone’s rock. You kept everyone sane, even at the expense of yourself.
Which is why you were currently shaking and sobbing in his arms. You never sought out comfort for your problems, a bad habit you picked up in high school. You always put everyone first, and you had it in your head that you couldn’t be vulnerable.
You pulled away from him, not meeting his eyes, “I’m sorry…”
“Why the fuck are you apologizing?”
“Because I-”
“Because you’re being vulnerable in front of someone?” You nodded, unconsciously playing with your fingers. “Look at me, please.” You did, biting your lip to hold your tears in.
“You are allowed to be vulnerable. You are allowed to cry. You are allowed to be scared. You shouldn’t have to hide your feelings from your friends. I’m sorry if we ever made you feel like you couldn’t talk to us.”
You nodded, staying silent, focusing on how Jake had moved his hand from the back of your head to your cheek to rub his thumb back and forth on your cheekbone.
Your silence broke his heart a little bit, making him think you didn’t trust him. But he knew he had to be patient with you.
He goes to move his hand away but you hold it there. “I thought I was over it…”
“Over what, Sweetheart?”
“The accident…”
Jake pushed some hair behind your ear, “What accident?”
You took a deep breath, closing your eyes as a few tears rolled down your cheeks. He wiped them away as he spoke softly, “Take your time…” You nodded, swallowing as you tried to catch your bearings.
“A year before I was stationed with you, I was flying a mission. It was dangerous, but still fairly routine. On my way out, I got hit. It completely destroyed my weapons system. Before I could get back up, I was hit again. This time it took out my engine.” You took another deep breath, looking up at the ceiling.
“We were dropping altitude fast and my WSO and I had to eject. We landed on a beach, we unbuckled so fast,” you chuckled, remembering the relief you and Diego felt before the shit hit the fan.
Jake smiled a little bit at the sound, but dropped it when you started talking again.
“However the jet had also crashed onto the beach too. The fuel had leaked and caused an explosion. I covered my WSO, and a piece of scrap metal lodged itself into my back.”
Jake’s eyes widened, more dots connecting in his mind, “You’re the pilot the squad was talking about at the bar…”
You nodded, wiping your eyes, “Jake, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. It’s just… when I was in recovery, if I wanted to fly again, I had to go through therapy. And I haven’t had an attack in a year…” You got choked up again, hot tears rolling down your face, “Hang, I’m so sorry.”
He shook his head, using both of his hands to wipe your face, “Hey, don’t be sorry. Do I wish you would have told me sooner? Hell yeah, but I understand why you didn’t.” You just nodded and relaxed into his hands.
“What happens when you have an attack?”
You took a sharp inhale through your nose before sighing it out, “It depends. I sometimes get flashbacks of the beach, everytime I close my eyes I just see fire and it’s fucking terrifying. Other times, when it gets really bad, I can feel pain in my back, but that’s rare.”
You bit your lip a little as you looked away, and Jake knew, “That happened tonight didn’t it?” You nodded, coughing a little bit, “Yeah, uh, yeah it did.”
“Was it because we talked about-”
“No," you said quickly. "W-well, I mean kinda… yeah. But there was a bonfire happening on the beach, and just the two things… my brain went into panic mode. Before you ask, I don’t really know what triggers it. But during dogfight football-”
Jake’s eyes widened and he dropped his hands, “Fuck, Y/N, I’m so sorry. I had no idea.”
“Exactly, Jake, you had no idea. It’s not your fault. It was just the pressure on my scar made me panic, and I was back on that damned beach. But I’m not mad or upset with you because you had no idea. So don’t beat yourself up, please.”
Jake nodded, bringing you into a hug again, being mindful of the scar. “Jake, you can touch it. I know I’m safe.” He said nothing and brought a hand to run over the covered scar before tightening his hug.
“Can you tell me about him? Your WSO?”
You nodded, “Diego Harding, call sign Tundra. He has a wife and a son.”
“That’s why you-”
“Yeah, that’s why I covered him. He had a family to go back to.”
“What about you?”
You sighed again, using Jake’s shoulders to sit up, “Most of my family served. My dad was killed in action when I was young. My mom died when I was a teenager, leaving Piers to raise me for a little bit. Then Piers goes and sacrifices himself… so I didn’t have anyone to come home too.”
You shrugged and got off his lap, but snuggled into his side.
He rubbed lazy circles on your bicep. “Well now you do.” You looked up at him confused, “What?”
“You’ve got me to come home to, and I’ve got you.” He placed a chaste kiss on your forehead. “Don’t get sappy on me, Seresin.” He just chuckled.
It was silent for a moment.
“Promise me that you’ll do your best to fly back to me,” he asked in a hushed whisper as if he were telling you a secret.
“Only if you do,” you whispered back.
He held out his pinky, “I promise.” You nodded, interlocking your pinky with his, “I promise too.”
“Can’t break that now, you know,” he chuckled, squeezing your pinky a little. You giggled a little before yawning, “I know, cowboy.”

There was a surprising amount of sex in Be Mine Superstar! I really wasn’t expecting it…. Similarly, Love Syndrome had a LOT less sex than I was promised by the trailer…
Are there any BLs that had either many more or many less NC scenes than you were expecting before you started watching them?
BLs that exceeded (or underperformed) sexy expectations
Interesting question. So far, not that many Thai BLs. But I think that's just because I pay attention to the pairs and the actors in Thai stuff, and you sort of get a feel for what they will (and won't) take on. So in your examples: I know JaFirst did high heat so I expected the producers to lean into that advantage as part of BMSS because, frankly, it didn't have much else going for it.
I haven't watched Love Syndrome III yet but knowing Frank I wouldn't expect it to go super high heat in terms of actual physical contact.
I guess the ones that have surprised me are mostly out of Thailand are pulps that I knew nothing about going in. Let me see...
Thai BL that ended up being way hornier/better than I expected
Tumblr media
Secret Crush On You - such a weird show but BillySeng brought IT, whatever IT is, they got it.
Tumblr media
Love in Translation - yeah, what happened in that sauce isle boys? Very saucy. Whatever pun, more please.
Tumblr media
2 Moons 3 - about on par with ForthBeam from 2 Moons 2 but nothing else in the previous 2 series would lead one to expect the horny we got in this show on the main.
Tumblr media
Second Chance - yeah it was a throw away pulp and this studio is hit or miss on chemistry but it had one of the best kisses of its year.
Tumblr media
Big Dragon - I don't know what I expected form the trailers, but it wasn't as good as it turned out to be. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the show is naff, but the chemistry/heat levels are scorching.
Tumblr media
Ghost Host, Ghost House - generally the horror stuff doesn't do chemistry well, but these two have some of the best chemistry EVER put into a pulp. I really hope we see more of them.
Tumblr media
KinnPorsche - It's no secret I'm not as wild about this show as most, but I did think the VegasPete stuff was unexpectedly killer in all ways.
Tumblr media
Oh My Sunshine Night - yeah it was exactly what one expects from OhmFluke but THE SIDES!!!! I mean... WHAT? I'm not mad, just pleasantly surprised.
Tumblr media
TharnType - Okay but remember at the time what we'd had from Mame was LBC (relatively low heat) and other Thai stuff I was familiar with at the time was Make It Right, Love Sick, SOTUS, and UWMA. TT was way higher heat that I'd seen from Thailand before. And then...
Tumblr media
Why R U? - ZeeSaint's "away trip to the beach" full on sex scenes plus repping for verse was just crazy at the time. Especially since Saint played Pete in LBC before this and Zee was new to BL. Add that to the very odd and disjointed (and miss-matched) SaifahZon counter story and WRU? was this insane all over the place viewing experience, including the heat levels. There was this "what will they do next?" kind of tension over the production. Not the story (because who was following that?) but the PRODUCTION. At the time, it was welcome, but truly bonkers. What a way to drive narrative tension... pure high heat chaos.
Tumblr media
Thai BLs where chemistry failed meet my (relatively low) expectations
My Ride - honestly, if they had just gotten the kiss right this might even have earned a 10/10 from me
Unforgotten Night - ugh
Bite Me - double ugh
Friend Forever - I know I'm the only person who watched this but why could we not have gotten ONE kiss from the leads?
Nitman - studies have since shown us it is entirely not Noh's fault... see Oh My Sunshine Night
Wedding Plan - the leads were fine, but Mame usually fails me in every way except chemistry, so "fine" is not up to her usual standards. Those standards being predominantly "they hawt together" and nothing else. There wasn't even a side dish couple to pick up the slack noodle... so to speak.
Tumblr media
Korean BL
For most of 2022 I was consistently getting surprised by Korean BL's chemsitry when it was good but now I've settled into half expecting it yet still being delighted when it happens and is well done.
I do think Semantic Error was a bit of a seed change for them.
The problem is, now we know they can do it, we are starting to get pissed when it's bad or entirely absent.
Tumblr media
Taiwanese BL
Taiwan is the opposite of Korea.
I expect good chemistry and almost always always get it. I struggle to think of a time when they've disappointed me (in this arena). Maybe a few? But I tend to cut Taiwan more slack than other countries because they have so few BLs and they are generally so consistent. If they falter at all, at least the side couple will pick up the slack.
Tumblr media
Japanese BL
I have no expectations of Japan. Life as a BL fan is a lot easier that way.

he survived your grumpiness in the morning, now you survive his <33
(reblogs are greatly appreciated, it helps get my content out there! if you guys like what you see, please reblog it too <:D)
grumpy noir x sunshine reader
Tumblr media
peter came home from a long day. he was late to work, coffee spilled all over his cleanest and only button-down of the week because he forgot to do the laundry and would have to get right to it the minute he came home, his boss barked orders at him like he was some errand boy, which he pretty much was, given how little he was respected there--and all his photos for the paper were either blurry, uninteresting, or just flat out crappy.
it really was not peter's day today, not in the slightest. and to top it all off, on his commute home, he missed the last train for the day because his boss kept him at work, berating him for his poor performance, and of course, laughing in his face about it when he noticed his eyes were welling up with tears at the amount of horrible things shaping up his equally horrible day. oh, and it rained cats and dogs on the way home, what luck.
the time peter came home, he was about as sullen as the gray, monochrome rainy sky. he wrung out his sopping wet coat out from the veranda and threw it on the coat hanger, which toppled and fell over to its side. frustrated, peter grumbled to put it back in place. he slumped down on his sofa, trying to light his cigarette. "please, for my sake universe, give me this one good thing and let me light my damn cig." he muttered to himself angrily as he kept clicking on the mechanism of the lighter. it absolutely refused to light, only giving tiny sparks as peter kept pushing down on the mechanism.
he inevitably gave up and sank further into his sofa, angry at... everything, really. he hardly got this way, but seeing as how nothing went his way today at all, could he really be blamed? he closed his eyes as he leaned against the sofa's back, trying to sleep it off, but that simple pleasure couldn't even be granted to him.
the doorbell rang, and peter swore under his breath as he stumbled up to go get it. he opened the door, and, to his surprise... you were there. you grinned at him, all sweetly and brightly, your eyes looking up into his own, which reflected the murkiness of today's weather--sullen and melancholic as nothing, not a single thing, was right about today.
"good evening, pete." you greeted him in a chipper voice. peter looked at you nonchalantly. "oh, um, yeah. good evening." he greeted back, with emphasis on the "good" part, which that day was everything but that very word.
"how're you... oh." you began, but soon trailed off when you noticed how he was dripping wet, completely drenched in rain water from top to bottom as he opened the door a little more. "peter, you're soaking wet!" you pointed out, to which peter placed a hand on his forehead and nodded. "i couldn't catch the train, missed the last one, so had to walk home. and... yeah, the rain caught me as i was heading home, and..." he narrated his horrid day.
you looked at him with a concerned expression, feeling extremely bad for him. "oh, pete, i'm real sorry to hear that." you told him as you sympathized with the poor man. "as much as i'd like to say i appreciate that sympathy, i can't really put with void apologies when it isn't even your fault, now." he said in a rather cold tone, signifying he didn't want to talk about it nor have you pity his situation right then and there.
you nodded. "i understand." you tell him as you gaze into his frustrated eyes. "i don't need you to, but thanks anyway." he said as he was about to close the door on you, but you held it open by putting yourself in between, your hand holding the door open. "pete... can i come in?" you ask him, which perplexed him a little. why would you want to enter his home after he made it perfectly clear he just wanted to be alone for the time being.
you sympathetically grinned up at him. "please?" you gave him those irresistible doe eyes he found so endearing, those eyes that always worked on him whenever you needed him to do something for you.
he sighed in frustration and nodded slowly. "fine, just... don't cause too much of a mess while you're here." he said as he slumped back down on the couch.
you sighed as peter didn't change out of his sopping wet clothes. you took off your coat and handed it to peter. "it's your own house, so... i suppose you wouldn't be too embarrassed to change out of those wet clothes for something warm and dry?" you asked him in a concerned voice as he looked up at you and the coat in your hands.
you chuckled. "don't worry, it's quite porous, it'll keep you warm and stay dry." you beamed as your lips curved into a small smile for him. "i... okay. thank you." he said as he gently took the coat from you and began to change when you walked off.
"have you eaten yet, pete?" you asked him as you looked around his place. he shook his head. "can't bring myself to cook right now, let alone enter the kitchen. might burn down the house without aunt may here." he muttered, to which you found yourself giggling at. "what's so funny?" he asked, confused, as he turned his head to look at you.
you shook your head as you kept smiling. "nothing, that is true, though. ms. parker did say to keep you out of the kitchen, you're lucky i'm always here to look after you, peter." you beamed as you headed into the kitchen as you rolled up your sleeves. "you hungry?" you asked him.
he took a few seconds to respond, until he finally spoke up. "yeah, um, i'm kinda hungry, now that i think about it." he sounded like he calmed down after his frustration overtook him earlier. "alright, just wait right there pete, i'm on the way." you declared as you readied ingredients to whip him up something nice.
soon after, peter was presented with a steaming hot dinner, prepared by you. you smiled as you readied up the table for him, as well. he felt a little embarrassed at how a guest, who he initially refused and showed him nothing but sympathy for his frustration, no matter how much he didn't want to talk about it, readied his table and fed him food in his own home.
"you... didn't have to do this, really." he said in a low voice, which came out as a sort of grumble, but you knew he meant to thank you. "come on now, peter. i could tell you weren't feeling at your best right now. i just want you to enjoy at least one small thing from today, even if it won't last forever." you told him as you sat across him from the table and gave him a small chuckle as he blew on his food, looking up at you, too.
"you made my favorites?" he asked in subtle disbelief. you nodded with a grin. "nothing beats having your favorites after a not-so good day. if you want, i'd make you your favorites forever, if you'd like, and offer you my coat when you're stuck in the rain. i'd even listen to you grumble and gripe about all the crappy stuff that's happened to you, even if you're... going to be angry at me for wanting to sympathize." you said with a small laugh as peter hung his head.
"sorry i've been so cranky and out of it today, really, i just... nothing went my way today." he admitted, very ashamed of his own behavior, he knew better than to treat you that way, but he did what he did. you reached for his hand from across the table. "peter, i understand. really, i do. your emotions are valid, never let anyone, not even yourself, tell you not to feel what you're feeling. i'd love you even if you perpetually had a storm cloud over your head and a unibrow from frowning all day and night." you said earnestly as peter blushed slightly at your words.
he adjusted his glasses on his face as he cleared his throat. "um... thank you. again. i really, really appreciate it. i... i appreciate you." he said as you giggled at his flustered self. "don't mention it, pete. i can come by tomorrow and tend to you, even if you'll be doubly cranky then!" you joked, but were serious about wanting to come by tomorrow.
"ah... yes, please. i'll try to keep my crankiness to a minimum. but i doubt it'll linger any longer if you're here." he said with a smile, the first smile that ever cracked on his face ever since the day started. it ended with you and him, smiling and laughing, forgetting the horrible day he had at the beginning, only to relish this lovely evening you two shared.

For your icemav prompt suggestion thing!! So stupid but maybe Ice sees how good Mav is with Bradley/kids and he just instantly swoons lmfaoo
thank you thank you thank you! this is such a cute prompt!
——
Tom Kazansky knew a lot of things, that could not be disputed.
In his profession, he had to know a plethora maneuvers by heart. He could do extremely complex math in his head. He knew who was flying and where. He knew his flight manual so well he could recite it in multiple languages.
He knew things about his wingman, too. He knew that Pete "Maverick" Mitchell was dangerous. He knew that he flew like a maniac. He knew that he had a reason to. He knew of the guilt he carries around, how ghosts follow him. He knew that Pete bounced from foster house to foster house, and sometimes he thinks that he deserves it. Tom knows he doesn't. He knows that Pete's eyes are the boldest green he's ever seen. He knows about his love for forehead kisses and strawberries on his waffles.
He did not know that Pete was good with kids.
He knew that he had a godson/nephew. He did not know how great of an uncle he is.
The second Mav saw the boy, his grin grew bigger than he'd thought possible. The boy shrieked when he was scooped up by strong arms and kissed soundly on his cheek. Mav swung him around to sit him on hip, laughing. He could see Carole Bradshaw smiling tiredly, seemingly relieved that they were all here.
"Hey, Baby Goose. I've missed you."
"Hi, Mav."
The boy sees him standing there and buries his head into Mav's shoulder shyly. "Who's that?"
"That's your uncle Ice, Bradley. Him and me fly together. Can you say hi?"
Bradley lifts his head and smiles. "Hi, Ice. Did you know my daddy?"
Ice nods. "He was a good man."
Bradley frowns, confused.
Pete, seeing that, says, "Uncle Tom lives here with me. We want to go get ice cream with you and Mama. Do you want some?"
A squeal escapes Bradley as he nods. "Yeah, Uncle Mav!" he turns to his mother, eyes wide. "Please, Mama? I'll be extra good!"
Carole laughs. "Of course, honey."
Bradley cheers, and Mav flings him around happily.
He was smiling so wide. God, he was so good with him. He would be such a good parent.
Ice shocks himself at that. He'd never thought about having kids, especially now that he was with Pete. The Navy was no place for children.
But the thought of somehow having a child that looked like them, a proclamation of their love. Light hair, green eyes. Or maybe dark hair, with shockingly blue eyes.
Having a little girl tug on his pant leg and asking to be picked up. A little boy exclaiming happily after finding a coin on the sidewalk. Hanukkah and Christmas. Birthdays. School and graduation.
"Ice, you good?" He's dragged from his thoughts by his lover's concerned voice.
"Huh? Oh, yeah," he smiles, then starts toward the car. "I was just thinking."
"Dangerous."
"Shut up Mitchell."
Carole and Bradley are already pulling out of the parking lot. He unlocks his car, sits down, and starts the engine.
"Are you sure you're good, babe?"
"You're good with kids. It's cute."
He looks a little surprised at that. "Oh."
"I've never thought about having kids before." He turns to look at Pete, nervous.
"Me neither. Until you." He pecks him on the cheek. "We should look into it, when we're ready."
That surprises Tom. "Okay."
He isn't quite sure how that would work, but he doesn't really care. He'd do anything for Maverick.
"I love you, Tom. I'd do anything for you."
"And I would do anything for you, my love."
——
i think i accidentally might've given Ice baby fever. No regrets.
if i have time i'll make this into a full on fic, idk.

You can't believe how stupid Peter is sometimes.
Well, not stupid, exactly. Just stubborn. Stubborn and stupid. Two good words to describe him, especially now. Maybe you're really just panicking though, right? These are perfectly normal responses to have when your friend has been missing for what, an entire week now?
Now, sure, the guy makes it a habit to seemingly disappear from time to time, but he NEVER went without at least telling you first. You can't help how worried you are right now for him. The only reason you were so worried was because the last time he'd just left and told nobody, he had spiraled into a deep depressive state. Having just been dumped after a 3 year relationship, MJ saying that they're just better as friends, it really got to him.
His heart crushed, his inflamed ego stomped out, and his pride broken. He was a glass man, who had been mishandled and shattered. It had taken so long to pick up those pieces, bit by bit placing them together again, back into the man you cared so deeply for.
He had vowed since to tell you whenever he decided to just vanish like that again, the pained and scared look in your eyes somehow hurting him more than MJ ever had.
You had become quick friends in the workplace, not quite crossing the threshold of a bond outside of work. That is, until one of the first of many fights that Peter had to put up with. It was a rainy night, and he had had enough of the nagging of Harry in his ear, telling him he needs to get his act together eventually for MJ, who was almost impossible to please. It seemed that Harry was always quick to defend her, no matter how miniscule the fights may have been. He shakes his head, walking with his hood up into the bodega on the corner.
He opens the door, finding a familiar face to be more comforting than he'd ever admit at the time, you. You stood there, browsing through the different candy selections, wearing a pair of jeans and a loose oversized t-shirt, a pair of converse on your feet. A complete contrast to your normal work attire, he almost wouldn't have recognized you if not for the familiar glint in your eyes, that seemed to brighten at the sight of him.
"Pete! Wow, how's it going? Odd seeing you out in the wild." You tease with a smile. He feels a sudden weight off of his shoulders, his previous mood somehow leaving him just from a smile. He chuckled, walking over. "Hey, and you have room to talk. I didn't think you knew what jeans were." He nods to your comfy appearance. He liked it better, you looked… at peace.
You roll your eyes a bit, going back to looking at the candy. "I just prefer to be taken seriously at work is all. Anyway, what are you up to?" You ask, picking up a box of (favorite candy), looking up at him. You raise an eyebrow when you notice his shoulders visibly slump a bit.
"Woah, what's up man? Shoot." A phrase you two used a lot at work whenever you're working on a story together, and one of you had an idea, one of you always said shoot. It was a good way of acknowledging and accepting each other and the help that you had to offer. He laughed at this, shaking his head. It seemed he wasn't in a good place to talk about it. So you decided to go to a different place instead then.
"Alright… well, I was about to go bowling, maybe get a drink and a bite to eat. And you know, I'd HATE to bowl alone…" you trail off, hoping he'd pick up what you're laying out before him. He did, thankfully. "You know, I once won a trophy for being a bowling state champion." He grins, hooding his eyes. "Really?" You smile. "Nah. But let's go help me practice anyway." He begins walking, holding the door open for you. You set down your candy, deciding against buying it, and roll your eyes at him again.
You had of course, tied at bowling, you not expecting him to actually be good. You still joke about going easy on him while you're both eating burgers at what appeared to be both of your guys' favorite burger places. Talking about anything and everything, more so now that you're outside of work. You'd been sitting patiently listening to him finally explain his whole situation with MJ and Harry.
"And she tells me that all I do is work, and I get too tired to even talk anymore. Well, you'd be tired too if you had to do the things I have to do all the time!" He grumbles, biting into his burger. You nod along, picking a fry from his plate, having finished yours already. "You're right-" "Thank you!!" He cuts you off, taking a sip of his root beer. "Let me finish, Goofy." You smirk, "You do work a lot, almost as much as me. Hell, who knows how late you have to stay out to get those exclusive interviews with Spiderman and whatnot." You speak while pulling a straw out of your milkshake, licking it off. An action Peter stares at blankly, but ignores once you keep talking. "But didn't you say that you used to be practically in love with her in high school? Hell, you're not even gonna be going to college anymore like you'd originally planned with her. You've been working quite a lot lately, true, but don't you think she's more worried?" You point a fry at him, popping it into your mouth.
He seems to think about for a second, pondering. "You have a point." He agrees, realizing what you're getting at. "I always do." You smile smugly, winking. He finishes his burger, and you guys pay for your food. The walk back feels nice, like you both had just gotten a good breakthrough on a story, almost. Except this seemed more personal, comfier. You joke back and forth, the topic of a certain hero coming up.
"You know, you should introduce me to Spiderman sometime. He's kinda cute." The words make him freeze for a moment, but you're still walking. He catches up quickly. "WOAH, what- huh, I, uh. Woah. You think?" He pesters, making you laugh, nodding. "Are you kidding? He's a HERO. Plus, reading the interviews with him is one of my favorite parts of my days. He seems like such a good character in general. Naturally, he's just my type. And those tights-" He chokes on his own spit, sputtering at your words. He suddenly felt very warm, flattered extremely.
You smile at him, laughing as he gathered his senses. "Oh really, huh? You like the costume? You don't think it's corny?" He questions, extremely interested in your response. "Corny? More like it makes me Horny, dear God that ass-" "AHAHAHA WOW OKAY!! MOVING ON." He is entirely red now, his heart thumping so loudly in his ears now. And all you do is laugh hysterically, enjoying this response.
"Awe, what's wrong? Don't like me talking about your best friend like that?" You tease, smiling at the redness of his ears. "N-no, I mean, uh-" he coughs, regaining his composure. "It's just th-that… He'd like to hear that, every now and then. I-I mean, I guess." He smiles, almost proudly. You smile with him. "Well good. Something tells me he needs to hear it. Welp, anywho-" you step onto a step leading up to an apartment building. "This is me. I had a good time to night, I really needed it. I'm sure you did too." You smile at him.
The statement makes him realize, yeah, he did need that. Before he knows it, he's engulfing you in a quick side hug, almost awkward, but still comforting. His body warping your own from his size, you never truly noticed until now how large he is in comparison to you. "Yeah… I did. Anyway, see ya tomorrow, Stink." He flashes a smile at you before walking away.
You watch him as he goes, feeling something tugging at your chest. You look away quickly, shaking it off.
You felt it a lot, you'd come to find. Any time you guys hung out, anytime there was another fight, and it of course grew the more you were with him. It was always a feeling you welcomed, rather than shied away from or shut out. Call it being oblivious, or call it being hopeful. You never really wanted to pinpoint it. The only time you'd felt yourself question it was about 3 weeks after their breakup about 2 years after that night. You had been checking up on him, and he was still sulking in bed. You were rubbing his back, telling jokes and trying to cheer him up, telling him about different things from work that you know would cheer him up, and something finally, finally, had chipped into that sad and pathetic look in his eyes, and he had finally smiled. Leaning his head on your shoulder, mumbling a thank you, constant apologies spilling from his lips. You had always shushed him when he got like this, but the weight of him on you, that warmth of his body, had caused something to flutter within your chest. It was then you started acknowledging, started allowing that feeling to take a hold of you. You didn't think it would consume you entirely, and you didn't really care then. All you cared about was that he had smiled

Who are 5 guest actors that you would love to see return to the show? (Doesn’t matter how big or small their roles were in the first place)
Oh fun! This was actually pretty easy, because between the characters who have been killed off (and thus can't really return) and Nolan's former love interests (no thank you), there's not that many to choose from...
Kojo (Macklin the dog) - I know, I know, it's hard to film with animals, yadda yadda yadda, but please let us see this good boy again in season 6. Just one appearance?? PRETTY PLEASE??
Genny Bradford (Peyton List) - They moved her character back to Los Angeles, so it would be damn shame to not see her again! I loved seeing her interacting with both Tim and Lucy (and Tim and Lucy together), so I really hope she'll be back around soon.
Percy West (Michael Beech) - He had such a commanding presence, his friendship with Grey was really nice, and the extra layer to the LAPD he brought was so interesting. Do I want him around all the time? Absolutely not. But to have him pop up on occasion in the aftermath of a case (say, Tim's shooting in 5x19 for example) would be great!
Pete Nolan (Pete Davidson) - This may be a controversial choice, but I personally find him hilarious in small doses. He's such a great foil for John Nolan, and I think that's why I enjoy it whenever he shows up—he knocks Nolan off-balance! I know Nolan is the main character, but frankly it's boring to see everything be so easy for him, and you can always count on Pete to throw a wrench into things.
Abigail (Madeleine Coghlan) - It was cool to see her interacting with both Tim and Lucy when she was on her ride-along with Tim and Nolan, and I would just love to see her back one day, ideally as a rookie herself? She was fun! (At minimum I'd love to see her - and Henry - back for Nolan's wedding, but I'm not holding my breath!)
Honorable Mentions:
Rosalind Dyer (Annie Wersching) - Sadly we all know this one can't happen, but she was hands-down the most interesting baddie, and thus one of the greatest guest stars, so I just can't exclude her from this list.
Valerie Castillo (Rosalind Sánchez) - Listen, I'm just such a sucker for guest stars that are connected to cast members (spouses, former co-stars, etc.—I'm looking at you, mini Castle and Firefly reunions) and so for that reason alone I'd love to have her back. The reason she didn't make the top 5 is I'm not entirely sure what they would do with her character, but if it happens, I'm here for it.
Vanessa Chen (Lauren Tom) - She only gets an honorable mention because I fucking hate her... but I would love to see some kind of follow-up to her previous appearances. And I'm weirdly conflicted about what I want to have happen with her. I would love to see Lucy tell her mother off, to shove her happiness and success in her face... but I would also like to see some kind of resolution there too?
Did I miss anyone??? Do you disagree with me? Who would you add?
Hit me with more fun questions! 😊

Annnnd also, very important update on Aislynn's Borked Up Computer...
Still borked up but Georgette (the computer) and I are working out a system:
Turn computer on
Pray it does not blow up
Thank God when it does not blow up
Check to make sure that all of the drivers are still correct and haven't been "helpfully" rolled back by Windows, Dell, the demon who apparently infected a bunch of Dells at the factory level, etc.
Try not to stare at the Nvidia light every time it comes on
Remind self it's okay for the Nvidia light to be on because it's, you know, the graphics card and does have legit things to do
Check Windows Reliability Monitor
Check the health and temperature of the C drive
Check the time
Those last two are important because in about an hour to 2 hours, Georgette will begin to just feel off in some way. Go back and check health and temp. Completely shut down computer if temp has raised (which, to be fair, I think the temp going up, like, 1 degree is normal with use but it's just something I can look at and makes me feel more like I have some sort of control).
If we make it to 2 hours up time without a problem, shut down anyway.
Leave off for a while. Switch to Fire tablet with its awesome, new $9 Bluetooth keyboard \o/ 🥳🤷‍♀️😉and spend some time writing the next chapter of whatever fic I'm working on (currently "15 Minutes" chapter 9) in a Tumblr draft.
Eventually come back to computer and turn it on again. Weirdly now, it should feel a little steadier than the first "session" and can run as long as 10 hours without feeling like it's about to fall over, explode, or all of the above. I do not understand why this is but... it is. 🤷‍♀️
Try not to keep looking at the Nvidia light every time it comes on but, for Pete's sake, that looked so cool when I first got Georgette, like she was some Fancy Gaming PC™️ and now it just gives me anxiety.
Eventually shut down and feel like it was a Good Computer Day if we made it through without a blue screen event.
I'd ideally like to get an entire week with no blue screening, then please, Dear Lord, a whole month, then I want to try installing Steam again. This may end very badly because I know the computer is NOT stable but she's more stable than before. I just want to play Halo again, friends. I miss it so, so much.
I also want this computer, which has so much potential to be a genuinely amazing gaming/vidding rig, to live up to that, one day. 64GBs of RAM should not go into vapors and die because I'm watching a video on Youtube while checking my email. That's just wrong. 😭I know Georgette can be a great PC, can make up for this incredibly rough first 7 weeks of her life. We just need to get this dang BIOS/OS/driver/whatever Incompatibility Demon out of her.
Tumblr media
Hope you're all doing well. Love you, frens. 🤗💖

Adventure Time Skippable Episodes Tournament - Prequel
Welcome to what will be a tournament for the best "skippable" episode of Adventure Time! Before beginning, we need to decide which episodes count as skippable. There is a lot of debate about this, so I'd like some input before starting. This list came from Reddit user reapertuesday's reduced viewing guide and includes some episodes they marked as recommended.
The full list is under the cut. Before going over it, some Q&A:
Why call them skippable episodes? Why not filler or non-canon?
"Filler" refers to episodes that are made in order to prolong an adaptation of a source material. Adventure Time is an original creation, not based on a specific existing story, so there is no filler. In the same way, no episodes are "non-canon" unless specifically declared so by the crew.
So what defines a skippable episode?
To me, a skippable episode is any episode that does not:
Introduce a recurring character or item (e.g. Finn's various swords)*
Relate to a larger character development/arc/backstory or overarching plot point
Generally get a mention in any other episode
*A character introduced in one of these episodes may have a cameo in required episodes. However, if their presence isn't confusing even without watching their introduction episode, their intro episode may still be on the list. For example, Party God shows up at Prismo's party in S6 E1, but several other characters we don't know are also present, so it's not unusual even if you skipped his previous appearances.
Where are the Graybles, Fionna and Cake, and guest-animated episodes?
I consider these episodes to be kind of their own thing, contained in their own universe or singular episode. I know F&C have their own show now, but this list is specifically for watching Adventure Time proper, not any follow-up or spin-off material. Plus, at least one of the guest-animated episodes is considered genuinely non-canon, and I do want this list to have only canon episodes.
This episode isn't skippable, it's one of my favorites!
An episode being skippable doesn't mean it's not good - some of my favorite episodes are in this list. It just means that a first-time viewer can choose not to watch the episode and not be confused by anything later.
That being said, here is the list. Please reply in some form if you think an episode on here is required viewing (and explain why), or if you think I missed an episode. I'll give it one week before creating the bracket.

9 Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better
Augghh I love these games! thank you for tagging me Mickey 🥺🌸(@thisautistic)
3 Ships You Like :
1. Yohan/Moogyeong from The Shape of Your Love (manhwa by Park Nodeok)
Tumblr media
this is my ultimate OTP. i never had OTPs before them. they'll be my rise and fall. but yeah, anyway. they. my boys.
2. Vegas/Pete from KinnPorsche The Series
Tumblr media
they had me by the throat even before i knew kpts existed and just, well. then i watched kpts and found them and they were everything i hoped for and more. a lot of it is also because vegas and i are very much alike without the mass murder aspect 😂
3. Alan/Gaipa from Moonlight Chicken
Tumblr media
listen, MLC is like, the best thing i've watched in a while and alangaipa gave me what i had been craving since yohan/moogyeong c. 2019 : a small rare/ghost ship with barely any screentime but that hooked people in worldwide. firstkhao's acting was just bonus. alangaipa represent everything that i want from my own life. i couldn't not love them.
First Ship Ever :
Kanata/Miyu from Da!Da!Da!
Tumblr media
oh, these two. i was head over heels in love with them. i shipped them even when i didn't know that shipping existed or what it meant, when we didn't even have anime on TV besides the broadcast on SONY at 5pm sometimes. i just wanted them in love and happy and raising a kid together. ugh i miss them.
Last Song You Heard :
The Moon Represents My Heart, by the Moonlight Chicken cast! God do I love this song so much! It fits all the ships so well! The lyrics are gold! (I also recently found that this is a cover of the OG by Teresa Teng and that's even more beautiful??)
(also, this has been helping me visualize and write a lot of sand/ray, surprisingly enough.)
Favorite Childhood Book :
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Tumblr media
ahhh, well, this is embarassing. i didn't have a favourite book until adulthood actually. and it's my only favourite (as in something i've read time and again). i don't think i'll ever find another book like this one. this is it for me. nothing can ever top this. (yes, I'm very picky about my favourites lmao)
Currently Reading :
i found out this fic exists because of twitter discourse lmao, and I'm not even a dramione fan, i'll probably never read another work, but goddamn, the writing was stellar. lived up to all that hype. good stuff. (I'm almost at the end so wish me luck!)
Currently Watching :
Our Dining Table
Tumblr media
no offence to those who love this, i loved the manga when i read it years ago, but lord was i bored to death even on the second trial at watching this lol. I'm soldiering on though, i'll get through this!
Currently Consuming :
Thai BLs
uhh... not sure what answer this demands actually, so, uhhh... lots of thai BL i guess? that's really what i've been consuming lately. i had never watched thai BLs before KPTS in 2023 so it's eye opening, they've gotten better ( i tried once before , quite a while back when a friend recommended, and i found it ridiculous so i never thought i'd actually ever watch any again lol, mostly because i never was a fan of live action BL dramas in general)
Currently Craving :
💵💵💵💵
well, i'll be honest here, money is vital and that's what I'm craving lol, i gotta feed myself and my cats and pay a 50k laptop repair bill that my company thrust on me even though it's not my fault it's damaged. anyway, essentially I'm experiencing financial doom among other unfortunate events, so here's your chance to commission a fic or donate at my KOFI so...... haha.
alright, this was super fun! I'm tagging @skyfish7 @semantics-error @justfionn @boyslovecorner @peachym00 @lilitblaukatz @ae-azile
(please feel free to ignore if you're feeling up to it!)

Hello again ^^
I wrote another little short story, I just really wanted to share it with all of you because that is the only thing my tired and (right now unfortunately uncreative) brain could come up with.
I hope you like it anyway! Have an amazing morning/day/night <3
PS: I am not from America so I am not very familiar with any special candy from the 70s/80s/90s but I looked up a few things that I thought might fit and chose Pixy Stix in the end. Mostly because we also have them in my country just with a different name. So please excuse any mistakes :D
Pixy Stix
Ice closed the door with his foot while Mav put the bags on their kitchen counter and began to unpack them. The blond joined him, and they began to store the treasures from their grocery run into the cabinets.
There was one item that Mav graved to unpack, one item that he ripped from the shelf the second he saw it, and he already smiled just thinking of it.
Mav didn't have the best childhood, but this one particular item just made it a little better and brings back certain good memories.
Maverick's hand rummages through the bags until he finds the Pixy Stixs that he just waited to open and cherish. “What are you doing?” , Iceman asked as he came up behind him.
“Just finally unpacking these awesome things, I've been waiting to eat them since I laid my eyes on them in the store!”
“What is that?” That was the sentence that disrupted Mav's bliss, what did his wingman mean now?
“What?” “I asked what those are.” “You don't know what Pixy Stix are? Didn't you had them as a kid too?”
Tom looked at the package for a second before shaking his head. “No, I saw them in the stores, obviously, but I never ate them.”
“Why? You missed something in your childhood, man.”
“You know what my father is like. He never allowed us to eat something like that. He said our teeth would fall out if we would.”
“And you really believed that?” “I was a child, Maverick.” “Touché…”
Pete looked at the Stick in his hand, then at Ice, and finally gave him one. “Here try one, I promise your teeth won't fall out, if they would, I wouldn't have any anymore.”
Ice looked at the candy in his hand with uncertainty, he thought for a second before opening the package and trying it.
“And?” Pete asked with child like glee and smiled at his partner. “That was….pretty disappointing…”
“HUH?” Mav choked out with horror on his face. “What do you mean?”
“Well you hyped it up so much that I expected more that just glucose, but it's nice anyway. I just expected a bit more.”
“And I shared the best flavor with you!” “Sorry to hurt you like this, love.” “I can never forget this betrayal.”
Ice smiled and packed away the last items.
“Didn't you had any candy as a kid?” , Mav suddenly asked, “Is that why you have such a sweet tooth?”
The blond man wrapped his arms around Pete from behind, cuddling closer.
“Yes and no. We sometimes had candy, like on special occasions we had cakes and all that kind of stuff, and our Babushka would sneak us chocolate sometimes. But the best candy we had were apples with chocolate or honey! That was my childhood, Mav.”
“Could you make some? I'd love to know what your childhood tasted like, since you know mine now.” Maverick winked and Ice chuckled. “Of course, Mav.”

Okay before i can muster up the courage to look at my embarrassing concert videos (I am screaming in all of them but my vocal cords can't really yell or scream loudly so it just sounds like a half wail followed by coughs lmfao),
General ~vibes~ of the Fall Out Boy show in Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View, CA
Had the best time. It was quite different from the 4 other concerts I've been to before (all kpop & all different venues) so I didn't have a frame of reference and it felt all very new.
Once through a quick bag check, security, ticket scan, shoreline amphitheater had a lot of food and merch before you get to the actual seating.
There was a lot of food options and a Lot of alcohol offers. I don't drink, and I really dislike the smell & being surrounded by alcohol/drunk people, so i put on a mask. But that's more of a me-specific thing. Everyone looked like they had a good time chilling with drinks and food.
Merch: from the area I was in, right inside the gate, there was 2 merch tables back to back, carried fob & opening acts merch. Line was about 30 minutes. The size I wanted was gone so I got the size up.
Openers: unfortunately I missed the first two openers, but managed to catch a few bmth songs. They were really good. The vibes of the crowd was different than for fob, more people were yelling & standing on the seats. idk much about bmth but they sounded good, the lead singer was charismatic, I'd be interested in checking their stuff out. (+ a couple in front of me, with the girl who didn't want stop standing on the seat when the bmth asked everyone to sit down for the last song, left like after sugar? Which was honestly great for me bc the guy was tall lol)
A lot less people were filming (compared to kpop, which makes sense) and everyone was vibing. Lots of dancing, waving arms, clapping, just having a lot of fun. (The couple next to me were making out half the time and kind of slow grinding? which was interesting shsj)
The pink seashell project! I wasn't able to find people who were handing them out, but it looked like a lot of people had them ready (even the couple on the other side of me, who were both really chill/casually bopping to fob, whipped them out for fake out). I ended up using my lightstick for the pink light, but it was amazing to see the pink lights irl. Just so so pretty.
There aren't much breaks or ments in between sections of songs. Usually pete will say a couple of lines (s/o to support act, smfs album, succession speech-interrupted by Patrick banter!-patrick saying pete just disappears again, patrick piano enrichment, 8ball ments, encore line). Everything ran smoothly in a set pace.
Pete in the Box; our venue didn't have a catwalk like bmo stadium did, but he still popped up for dance dance in the little area between the 100s and 200s! I knew it was coming but was still surprised when the spotlight beamed at pete across the venue.
A LOT OF CONFETTI FOR SATURDAY. I was in like the first 15 row and the whole lower 100s were COVERED in bnw confetti and streamers.
People watching: its the bay area, but even for that, gay people. Gay people everywhere, icluding me. (/j). Lots of people in black, celestial/star prints, mesh and fishnets, belts, and a lots of eyeliner and purple lipstick (so, a lot of hot people). but not everyone were in black/alt/emo, there was a lot of people in band tees (saw hella mega, green day, blink 182, even a corporate rainbow patd urie shirt, which hmmm.) It was really fun to people watch in lines, bc it was exactly what you'd see at a fall out boy concert in the best way.
After the show, a kind soul gave me a save rock and roll bracelet, which made the whole experience perfect.
And of course. Fall out boy put on an amazing show. The light effects, the Pyro, the plastic bubble balloons, streamers, etc were so engaging, and the performances were amazing. (Patrick, hand in marriage. Please)

If inspiration strikes, I'd enjoy reading something with Jim, Frenchie, & Lucius (the possible S2 trio!) or something with Frenchie, Roach, & Pete (the RoP trio!). (I don't recall whether I already submitted this, as this would have been one of my initial ideas from months ago. So if I have, please dismiss this.)
(hahahahah *nervously stuffs unanswered asks behind them in pile* never worry about re-sending. I uh... look I'm trying my best, but things have gotten a little out of hand back here, so if you want to re-float something that's been sitting for more than six weeks or so, by all means. I do go digging in the back catalog sometimes, but you know. Things fall behind metaphorical filing cabinets etc)
“I’m going to end her entire life,” Lucius tried the door again, fruitlessly.
“It was an accident,” Frenchie reminded him. “...probably.”
“It was,” Jim was eying up the door with a determined look. “She was distracted.”
“Why does the lock even work this way?” Luicus groused, taking out his phone. “Who’s closest and has keys? She’s got to be halfway across town already. Asshole.”
The three of them had gone down to the basement that morning to start pulling out summer festival decorations. A good-natured squabble between Frenchie and Lucius over who was carrying what meant that they missed the sound of Eddy’s boots until they were right on top of them and then there had been the very distinctive sound of a propped door closing and a ‘snick’ of a lock. Then tread away and the backdoor closing. They hadn’t thought much about it because obviously no one would put a lock on the basement door that one couldn’t open from the other side.
The door (the basement as a whole) was a relatively new concept, so it wasn’t until a half-hour later that they had discovered that apparently that was a decision that had been made at some point.
So Eddy had locked them in together. There were worse places to be stuck. There was a bathroom and there were snacks in the kitchenette, but Lucius had had plans for the evening that involved being very far from the bar seeing as it was, for once, closed on Sunday. Because Eddy and Stede were taking a little trip and decided to gift everyone with a few days off. So cute. So sweet.
So fucking inconvenient right now because they were the closest key holders and were definitely on their way to gone.
“Does Pete have a set?” Frenchie asked doubtfully.
“No. love the man, but no one trusts him with security. What about Read?”
“She and Anne already left for upstate,” Jim frowned.
“Oh! Fang!” Lucius said hopefully and dialed his number. It ran a few times before giving over to voicemail. “Dear heart, if you get this in the next hour or so, please call back. Minor emergency, kisses!”
“That does not convey distress,” Jim rolled their eyes.
“I don’t want to worry him.”
“I’m worried,” Frenchie groaned. “At least a little.”
“Someone would come looking for us,” Lucius said staunchly.
“Yeah, but no one with keys,” Jim pointed out.
“Did you call Oluwande?”
“Doesn’t have keys. Turns his phone off when he’s volunteering.”
“Why?” Frenchie wrinkled his nose.
“Sets a good example for the kids not to be on the phone,” Jim repeated dutifully.
“Damn his good heart,” Frenchie laughed. “Well fuck. Roach doesn’t have keys either. Why does no one have keys?”
“I told you all I’d make copies years ago and none of you wanted them,” Lucius sat down on the stairs. “Fuck. Okay. I’ll text Pete so at least someone knows where we are.”
“Ask him to tell John if he’s up?” Frenchie sighed. “He’s still tanked from that bad shrimp last night, I bet.”
“Oh yeah,” Lucius’ nose wrinkled. “Yikes.”
Pete didn’t respond immediately and that left them just staring at each other.
“You know, I saw some board games in the back of the cupboard when we were pulling stuff out,” Frenchie mused. “Want to play?”
“We should be working on getting out of here,” Jim frowned.
“Okay, cool. Any ideas?” Frenchie lifted his eyebrows. “Cause I’d love to hear it.”
Lucius dropped his face into his hands. Jim sighed.
“Yeah, fine.”
The games must’ve been purchased by Stede for the kids then never made it to his place. They were brand new in the plastic. After some debate, they settled on Monopoly. Lucius took the top hat, Jim took the car and Frenchie was pleased with the thimble.
“So look,” Frenchie paid $200 to get out of jail. “I’m just saying Jim could probably fit through the window.”
“Maybe,” Jim frowned. “It’s locked too though.”
“What if we break it?” Lucius casually purchased another purple property. He kept his cards in  a stack so it was hard to tell how many he had.
“The alarm will go off,” Frenchie pointed out.
“So?” Jim snorted. “Who cares?”
“I’d care more about you trying to skim through jagged glass.”
“No big deal.”
“Very big deal,” Lucius contended. “You’ll get bloody, I’ll faint and you still won’t have a key to get us out. We’re better off waiting for Pete to figure out a lockpick, if he ever gets back to me. What the hell is he even doing today anyway?”
Jim scooted the car down a few spaces. “I’ll buy the railroad.”
“Already own it,” Lucius held his hand out for cash. “Did we hit up the group text?”
“First thing. No one’s responded,” Frenchie sighed. “It’s not like that’s going to get any more attention than reaching out individually anyway. Maybe I could figure out a distress flat and hang it in the window.”
“So the alley rats can see?” Jim frowned and forked over cash.
“I’m going to have a snack,” Frenchie decided, landing on his own property. “Anyone else?”
They all ate hot cheetos in varying degrees of despondency, their silver pieces moving around the board. Lucius’ cash pile grew.
“You can’t own that,” Frenchie challenged, then deflated when Luicus showed him the card. “How?!”
“I kept buying stuff while the two of you were debating the window idea for the third time.”
“I think you’re cheating,” Jim decided.
“I mean, I’m not, but go off, I guess.”
“Any one want some music?” Frenchie asked.
“No,” Lucius and Jim said simultaneously.
“I’m going to kick your ass,” Jim informed Lucius.
“Good luck.”
Things got tenser after that. For a while, Jim rallied, but then Lucius reached a tipping point and houses started cascading down on properties. Frenchie was down to his last ten dollars and Jim was starting to try bargains with him about his mortgaged properties.
That’s when they heard voices and then some scraping noise.
“We’re down here!” Frenchie yelled getting to his feet. “For the love of all things holy, save me!”
“Save us,” Lucius amended.
“Fuck you two, I want out of this situation yesterday,” Frenchie undermined his vitriol by handing Jim his ten dollars and then vaulting up the stairs. “Hello!”
“Hey!” That was Pete, Lucius groaned with relief and got to his feet.
“Hey, your man came through,” Jim said approvingly.
“Yeah, would’ve been nice if he let me know that,” Lucius checked his still quiet phone. “....my battery died.”
“How are you so smart and so dumb at the same time?” Jim asked exasperated.
“It got knocked into the sink last week. Eddy again, actually. Battery hasn’t been right since,” he frowned. “Did I piss her off more than usual recently?”
“Nah, just distracted about the trip, I bet. She was excited to get away,”Jim reassured him, already packing up the bits of paper. After a pause, Lucius helped them, between of the two of them getting all tucked away just as the door finally yawned open.
“Luc?”
“Izzy?” Lucius head flew up, then just to Jim. “...hide me.”
“No. Why?”
“He’s gonna be annoyed that I didn’t call him.”
“...why didn’t you call him? He’s a great lockpick.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“Because you’re both as dumb as each other,” Izzy concluded for them, already at the bottom of the stairs. “You enjoying it down here or can we go? I set off the alarm.”
“I have the code, it’s okay,” Lucius sighed. “Thanks for coming.”
“Pete was worried you’d all resort to cannibalism before an actual locksmith showed up,” Izzy glanced at Jim. “I wasn’t sure he was most worried about, but I figured it was 50/50.”
“Could’ve been me!” Frenchie called from the top of the stairs.
Lucius and Jim exchanged a look, then headed silently back up after him.
“It could!” Frenchie protested. “I’m the most stringy anyway. Lucius has the most meat.”
“See, that’s the kind of statement that gets you eaten first,” Lucius said dryly, then beamed at Pete. “Thanks for calling the calvary, babe!”
“Yeah, of course,” Pete hugged him. “You okay?”
“He’s a cheating cheater,” Jim informed him.
“Monopoly,” Lucius explained.
“Oh yeah, no,” Pete pulled a face. “That’s on our banned games list.”
“You have a list?” Izzy did something to the lock (it would never really work right again, but Lucius wasn’t going to rat him out when Stede demanded to know who had broken it).
“Oh yeah,” Frenchie nodded.
“Wait, you knew he cheated at it?” Jim demanded.
“He doesn’t cheat! He’s just really good at it and a sore winner.”
“I can’t help if you suck,” Lucius mimed tossing his hair, before going to disarm the alarm and call the security company.
“I’m going to lock him back down there,” Jim decided.
“Not today,” Izzy gave them a look. “I have tickets.”
“I’ll wait until he least expects it,” they said darkly. Pete and Izzy exchanged a look, then shrugged. Sometimes you had to let people try their luck with Lucius. They even won sometimes.
“What other games are the list?” Izzy asked.
“Risk,” Frenchie and Pete said at the same time.
“Who plays fucking Risk anyway?”
“How can he good at that when he can’t even learn poker?”
“Mystery for the ages,” Pete agreed. “I took John’s car over, you want a ride home Frenchie? Jim?”
“Please,” Frenchie beamed.
“Yeah, okay.” Jim sighed. “Why am I tired?”
“Stressful stuff,” Pete shrugged.
“All set!” Lucius chirped from the backdoor. “Iz, are we going?”
“Yes, pup.”
Lucius locked up behind them.  Just as he was closing it, his phone jumped back to life with a ring.
“Possessed battery,” he grumbled and answered.
“Lucius! The alarm is going off!” Stede cried over the phone. “Can you go down and take a look at it?”
“Already handled,” he rolled his eyes. “Maybe ask your asshole spouse why they didn’t check no one was home before they locked the door.”
“You’re on speaker,” Eddy drawled.
“Good,” Lucius bit back. “What is wrong with you? I told Stede we’d be there.”
“Oh. I may have forgotten to mention?” Stede was probably grimacing.
“And what happened to ‘I hear all’?” Lucius pushed on. “I thought you never missed a trick, Eddy?”
“Dunno,” they said untroubled. “Ooops?”
The phone disappeared from Lucius’ hand. Jim hit speaker. “Eddy.”
“Oh no,” Eddy said, suddenly very subdue.
“Oh yes,” they hissed.
“I’m sorry?”
“You will be.”  Jim’s grin was very disconcerting and you could definitely hear it in their voice. “Enjoy your vacation.”
“My love, what do you think about extending our trip indefinitely?”
“Sorry, honey, I do actually want to continue living in the city.”
“....fine.”
“Bye.” Jim hung up and handed the phone back to Lucius before stalking off down the alley.
“That was hot!” He yelled after them, then giggled when they flipped him off.
He felt better already.

"Broke is such a...term," Stede chuckles nervously.
"You mean we're poor again?" the Swede asks softly.
"Oh love," Lucius pats his shoulder. "We were never rich; we just worked for a rich guy."
"Oh."
"I know."
Stede frowns. "You all did want a more traditional pirate employment experience, so this-"
"Sucks," Pete interjects. "I needed you to help fund Lucius' R-I-N-G!"
"Babe, I can spell," Lucius smiles. "A ring, hm? Of the kind that goes-"
"On your cock, yeah, that one, definitely," Pete stammers. "Not the finger one because I love you or whatever, but like. If you DID get one of those, and you had to put at least three stones on it, which-"
Lucius lovingly tackles him to the sand and peppers him with kisses.
"See, Pete came to terms with it and he's fine," Stede says. "Money isn't all there is to life."
"Yeah, but it does help to have it," Olu says. "And in bulk, if possible."
"I can never please you guys!"
Stede flops face first onto the hot sand. "Ow."
"Okay," Olu sighs. "You need a minute like that?"
"...yes."
"Okay. We're gonna look for ships to steal so we can start searching for Ed. Wanna come help once this is over?"
"I'm sorry, Olu."
Olu pats his back. "It's...yeah. Is what it is, Captain. You're okay."
"I have no money, my boyfriend tried to kill my scribe, no ship, and everyone hates me," Stede mumbles into the sand. "Pft. And now I have sand in my mouth! Life is endless miseries and little more!"
"...yeah, right, so when you're done, come join us. Or, see if Lucius and Pete want a third, if that would help you and they're interested."
"Maybe."
"Captain, seriously, this is so sad and not in an entirely sympathetic way-"
"I miss Ed."
Olu looks to the waiting crew, eye rolls waiting in the wings. "He'll be fine. This is fine."
"We're all gonna die," Roach nods.
"Not helping."
"Davy Jones will cradle us like a-"
"Buttons," Olu hisses. "Not helping!"
"Who said I was trying to be helpful? Was a bit of poetry ye might have appreciated, but never mind me."
"You think Ed and everyone else are doing better?" Stede sniffles.
--
"Broken," Ed nods. "I might have guessed, as we are listing entirely to the side."
Frenchie winces. "Yeah, that last battle...well. We all worked really hard, and that's good, but even so we're going to die, so..."
"Please get on the fucking dinghy already!" Izzy limps over and points to the dinghy full of Jim, Fang, Ivan, and as much of all their stuff as possible, waiting for them. "I am not dying here."
"Nah, the infection will do that later," Ed remarks. "You're right though; we should probably go."
"Probably?!"
"Oh my god," Ed sighs deeply. "Let's go before he makes a Thing out of this."
"The ship is almost sideways!" Fang calls from the boat. "We're already sort of in the water now here, so can we PLEASE-"
"Bitch, whine, kvetch, does anything else get done on this fucking ship?" Ed stomps off to the dinghy, leaving Frenchie to help Izzy limp along after him.
--
"I'd argue it's one of the finest," Stede says seriously. "Swede, give him a turn?"
The Swede obliges and shows off his ass, saying something Stede doesn't understand in Swedish but that sounds fairly sexy at least.
"Uh," the pirate coughs awkwardly. "No thanks."
"The prostitution thing didn't work before when you weren't even trying for it," Lucius sighs. "Why would you do it again?"
"Because we are, indeed, hawking fabulous booty of many kinds, and-"
"Your wife handled most of the financials, didn't she?" Lucius pats his shoulder. "Awww."
"I can handle money! And I know how to make it!"
"And I didn't get hard watching Pete try to roleplay as Izzy, sure."
"What now?"
Lucius shrugs. "He's grown on me. Pete just likes the idea of us wearing more leather, I think."
"We really should," Pete interjects in between posing for the passing crowds.
"Sure, I'll buy us some with my NO MONEY!" Stede shrieks. "I hate this."
"If you need money," a passing pirate pauses to say. "Spanish Jackie is running a sort of contest you folks might be interested in."
--
"Huh," Ed studies the flyer. "Stripping isn't anything Izzy's done in awhile-"
"Sorry, he's done this before?" Frenchie asks. "Not judging, just didn't expect it, Iz."
"I'll die up there," Izzy mutters. "Literally, at this rate."
His foot has been attended to by a doctor at the port, but he's understandably still feeling shit.
However, they need money and a ship, and at least having more of the former would help until they can steal the latter...
--
"Hi," Stede says awkwardly.
"Bonnet."
"You didn't buy anything special to wear for this?"
"Can't afford it at present. Judging by your outfit, you're in the same boat."
Stede snorts. "Is Ed..."
"Um. You do know Jackie's made him a last minute judge, yeah?"
"Oh no."
Izzy nods. "Yeah. I'd say may the best man win, but we're up against Jack."
"He's alive?!"
"Against all odds and as usual, yes."
"This day can't get worse."
"Also, Ed's expecting a theme for each performance, so-"
"Oh my god."
"Yeah."
--
"Uh," Ed steps onstage and gently pulls Stede and Izzy up from it. "Jackie, can I finish judging in a moment?"
"Everyone's still buying drinks and Jack wants to dance again," she replies. "Don't worry about it, just get them off my damn stage."
"So," he says as he drags them back to the assembly of chairs for both their crews. "Izzy I know is sick, that's his excuse for whatever the fuck that performance was-"
"Pardon me for tripping because I'm missing my fuckin' toe," Izzy grumbles.
"And Olu says you've been avoiding food to save money? Which I assume explains the passing out. What the fuck is all this?"
"Been asking myself that for the last twenty minutes," Jim interjects. "I. I've learned things about myself here. I don't know how to feel about it."
"Jack has that effect on most people," Es says. "I mean, I know it would be a bad idea to fuck him again. However, after that performance..."
His gaze softens and his eyes look somewhere beyond anything visible before he shakes his head. "Sorry, anyway. What the fuck are we doing about this mess?"
--
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Jack screams from the dock, cock out and flopping as he runs. "Ed! Edward! Park my ship and get over here, now!"
"We're all in various stages of fucking each other over!" Ed calls. "You said it yourself!"
"I didn't mean like this!"
"You should have been more specific then!"
"I don't feel great about this," Stede admits. "But this is really good soup."
"It is," Izzy nods. "Almost makes a person tired. Maybe that's just the day."
"I laced it with morphine so they rest," Roach whispers to Olu. "Don't worry, I dosed it carefully."
Izzy and Stede slump forward, wooden bowls of soup spilling onto the deck.
"Carefully?"
"Carefully enough. Captain Ed has requested a serious conversation with each of them; I figured they could use as much sleep as possible before that."
"Odd question, but is there more of that soup available for the rest of us?"
Roach nods. "Roach's Sleepytime Soup is only made in large batches, specifically for situations like this."
"When your estranged captains sort of get back together but not really and everything is a fucking mess?"
Roach shrugs. "Also weddings. Because they're stressful, but you can't be stressed if you're sleeping."
"I love it; what's the recommended amount to sleep through until the three of them are done with all that talking Ed wants?"
"...just keep eating until you pass out or it feels right."
"Okay."
Which things aren't really. Okay, that is, but the soup is warm and fast-acting, and Ed seems happy enough as he directs the rest of the crew.
That's maybe as much as they can ask for, while broke and now living on a ship with a dedicated 'whippies' area of the deck (as labeled in paint by presumably Jack.)

Tell me about a WIP you’re really excited about! Share some lines you like from your latest too?
Hello my lovely mutual, it's good to see you again ^-^ (That's what mutual means yeah? Anywho--) I don't really recall if I rb'ed an ask game which this applies to (my memory is not to be trusted), so no link, but! I'm always happy to answer!
The WIP I'm most Excited About!
As always, I'm most excited about Shifting Phases. I'm very consistent in that respect ^-^' especially since I have received my copy of Hurt and Comfort: A Whump Anthology!! Which contains a submission of mine featuring Pete bb!!! ^-^ I'm in the middle of reading the whole thing actually, and I haven't quite got to my submission yet, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it ^-^
Thoughts and dreams of finishing it so I can finally start posting it plague me every minute :')
Share Some Lines of my Latest WIPs
The last writing thing i was working on my Whumptober 2022 entry Mind Control, you can read it here (if you haven't already <3) which was pretty fun.
As for the actual SP WIP, I have a few words to offer:
Pete echoed with his class, “Yes, Miss Moore.”
His mouth was dry.
There was a palpable anticipation in the room, and each group of students murmured among each other. Some sounded excited.
Pete turned slightly to see which group.
He grimaced and turned back; he should’ve known.
Burton’s outfit.
Pete must’ve looked how he felt, brooding and grumpy, because Liz placed her hand on his, startling him.
“Fucked up how they wanna see people die huh,” she said in a low, sullen voice. Pete nodded wordlessly and the room went dark. He knew this was coming, but he’d always been able to distract himself from it with his assignments and other worries.
If people are interested in seeing more sneak peeks, please comment or otherwise let me know I'd be delighted to share ^-^ (Just keep in mind it's the first draft so stuff may change drastically or just plain not add up lmao)

While I'm on the subject, other rides I wish existed and might make a thing in this AU, besides the Treasure Planet dark ride:
A version of the Dumbo ride that's a bunch of Tick-Tocks circling a center figure of a terrified Hook (idk this one just seems very charming to me as a kiddie ride and with how much Peter Pan leans into the comedy aspect of Tick-Tock chasing Hook, who the company is pretty clear will never actually eat him...)
A permanent Nightmare Before Christmas attraction, so fans don't have to just wait for Haunted Mansion Holiday every year. Boogie's the easiest to theme a ride around (just slap a roulette wheel overlay on your standard spinny ride) but I kinda want something more than that. Maybe another dark ride, but this time instead of covering the story of the movie, it follows a small, loose sequel inspired by Oogie's Revenge?
We've had a high-speed Mr. Toad ride, can we get a high-speed Horseman chase ride to complete the set? Maybe even throw in an alternate ending for the chase (darker in tone of course to match Mr. Toad landing in Hell in the ride version of his story) It would be slow and spooky at first, mirroring the prelude to the Horseman chase, then when the Horseman appears, the ride picks up speed and takes tight corners and jarring turns, with false "near-misses" with the Horseman
(I also want to add a Horseman cameo to the Haunted Mansion since he was in one of the unused plans)
Give the Buzz rides some Star Command references, that's all, I don't really need a full ride when we already have a good in-the-spirit one for the original that a few things could just be added to
(Although my brain just conjured up the idea of a Star Command ride that's just a parody of Rise of the Resistance but. I don't think that would actually work. It's just a funny concept to imagine cartoon Zurg taking the place of Kylo Ren)
SOMETHING Clone Wars-themed, for Pete's sake just acknowledge Clone Wars beyond our girl Ahsoka
Ohhhh maybe a "race" coaster that simulates a Clone Wars space dogfight (that's in reference to when two warplanes engage in battle with each other, not the illegal sport of making two actual dogs fight each other btw) and depending on which vehicle you board, you assume the role of one of the main Jedi (and maybe Rex because he's our boy) or one of the main villains and who each side plays and who "wins" could be randomized. With banter from both characters during slower points in the ride (and in the queue) for added effect. Though I'd say give the guests the choice of which side they want to board...although a part of me worries that wouldn't be practical due to uneven amounts of people wanting to be either not matching up with available seating. But this is purely fun speculation, so...my city now.
We're bringing back Extra-Terror-Estrial and we're keeping it scary
Also let's revamp Cinderella Castle Mystery Tour because HK needs something to do besides walk around shuffling away from children's attempts to hug him. I want to revise the story of the attraction and how it fully plays out but I'm not sure exactly how yet. Good still wins though because I'm already suggesting too much spooky shit, gotta sprinkle in some happy endings to appease the mouse overlord
Elephant Graveyard coaster. That's it, that's the whole bullet point. (Shout-out to gavillain for coming up with that one)
I think he also had an idea for a Bald Mountain coaster and that one kicked ass too. Can you fucking imagine a Chernabog animatronic
Laugh Floor but it's House of Mouse. Please. Actually no, just make House of Mouse into an actual restaurant.
Something Atlantis-themed but my brain is not giving me ideas. :(
Please turn Tiana's Palace into a restaurant
Oh yeah and a coaster based on Yzma's lab entrance. With "WRONG LEVER!" reference at the beginning. Because early Tumblr was right about that, that would rock.
Idk what kind of ride would justify this but I just. Want an animatronic of snake Jafar. For reasons.
The existing carousel is iconic so don't change it but can we get another one somewhere else that's all Disney mounts. Like can we get Rajah and Belle's horse and Mulan's horse and Horseman's horse, and Maximus, and Sven I guess and Slim's buffalo and my spooky side says tnbc skeleton reindeer but I don't think you could turn that one into a comfortable place to sit, maybe a "centaurette" from Fantasia and the black pegasus, Hercules Pegasus, elephant Abu (I don't think Carpet could be turned into one people wouldn't just fall off of), and...
Maybe just a neat little walkthrough Cave of Wonders? Idk
That's all I got for now
