Self-Aware BSD AU x SAGAU Imposter AU Crossover

What would happen, if Reader were transported into Teyvat with someone from BSD Cast.

I want to write a series of headcannons/short imagines.

Rules:

they mean a couple things, but the gist of it is like “love”, “truth”, “suffering”, the works

Birthday

(chapter 69) utagawa’s birthday is april 14th. this is more of a headcanon than anything, but there’s a chance its the date she died.

she specifically points out it’s april here, and although the next scene where rensuke’s mask comes off probably doesn’t happen on the same day, i’m pretty sure it doesn’t happen too long after this

it’s definitely not the day takahashi found her as a gashadokuro, since that happens 2 months after she died

(chapter 74) of course, there’s a chance its just her birthday as a human. rensuke doesn’t mention if theres any reason he’s giving her the ring, but it might be for a birthday present

by the way, and this is relevant, “utagawa kuniko” is based off utagawa kuniyoshi, a woodblock print maker and painter, who made the depiction of the gashadokuro. he died on april 14.

but rereading this knowing its yamazaki changes that (not by much, since its just 2 sentences and he doesnt act on it, but yknow, fascinating)

also how kurai doesnt even gloat too much even though he caught “haruaki”

even if it wasnt immediately revealed 1 panel later, you probably would have caught on to something being up with just this

Announcing...MII MAY!

A month of creative prompts all about games starring Miis!

Hey! Thanks for clicking keep reading. First off, I want to say that this is my biggest (and admittedly only) multi-stage project so far, and I hope you’ll support it through reblogs. likes are cool too, but this is something I want to get people involved in. 

For a while now, I’ve wanted to get better at art, because (in my humble opinion) my art is honestly trash right now. I’ve tried doing things like Inktober, but while I’m sure other people love it and benefit from it, the prompts weren’t doing it for me, and I couldn’t find anything that really clicked for me. The other day, though, I decided to draw somethign for the heck of it to see how I was doing. I hadn’t drawn anything in a while and was stuck, but then I remembered that I’d  been playing and watchign videos of Wii Sports related things recently, and decided to start drawing the five sports in the original beloved game. 

That’s when it struck me. What if I did a month of Mii prompts? Miis and the Wii were a huge part of my life growing up, and I think this is as fine as any an opportunity to honor it while getting better at art in general. As an added bonus, I get extra practice drawing faces and body proportions, my two biggest obstacles in art currently, for free alongside the fun of drawing, as Miis focus a lot on those two aspects of a character.

So feel free to join me in whatever media you want. Go grab something to participate with! It could be a pen or pencil, paint, digital drawing tools, or even the famed Mii Maker itself if you want to try it (I won’t be using Mii Maker, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t)! Sundays with Scott were always lazy. It was like...his actual plans. If someone asked to hang out with on that particular day, his exact words would be "sorry, I'm being lazy that day."

They varied from downright slobbery to being somewhat productive - today had fallen somewhere between. Scott had tried to do his part around the house; hoovering, dusting, doing the laundry. But Scott, being unequivocally himself, had forgotten to separate the lights from the colours. It was when you came downstairs at midday and found your favourite white sundress dyed pink that you decided this day in particular was a write off.

The afternoon had started with the two of you making brunch, and then watching Rocky IV. It had taken no less than one singular comment about your apparent boxing abilities before Scott had decided to drag out his decade-old console and declare himself the champion of Wii Sports Boxing.

"Stay down!" you yelled. "I am victorious!"

"Hah!" Scott cried as his Mii got up, throwing a punch your way.

"That's not fair!" you said, flailing your arms about. "I literally had one second-"

Both of you watched in horror as the Wii remote slipped out your hand, flying straight across the room and into the window. It shattered with a sickening crack.

In the process, at least, the game registered it as a punch right on Scott's (video game, of course) nose.

You stood there for the better part of ten seconds, both glancing between the TV screen and the window. It was only the ding, ding, ding! of the boxing match ending that broke the silence.

"Hey!" Scott cried. "You won!"

"Fuck yeah, I won!"

"That's my girl!"

He picked you up, spinning you around the room and planting a kiss on your lips. Scott was always proud of your successes - even the little ones.

"I did break the window," you grimaced, glancing back at the damaged glass.

"We lost our deposit last year when you put a hole in the wall with a PS4 controller, remember?" he reminded you.

"Oh, yeah."

"So..." he trailed off. "This is a success story."

Slightly rude on the outside, but he has good intentions

She means well and cares about her classmates but won't hesitate to kill a bitch

She's just done with everyone's antics, but if someone even looks at one of her friends the wrong way she won't hesitate bitch

Will die before she admits it but she likes flower crowns, make her one and she will be indebted to you forever

She's the class rep/president and thrives in that position, Kokichi is jealous

Shuts down when you compliment her genuinely, she doesn't expect it

Ryoma Hoshi

He is done, with everything tbh

Loves his classmates don't get him wrong, but they're just dumb as bricks

Basically everyone's tutor, he says he doesn't get paid enough for it

Sometimes indulges himself in some minor crime with you and it results in y'all running around town and almost crashing the car

Designated guardian of the class and hates his position, complains to Kirumi

Angie Yonaga

Really sweet and kind!

She loves to help other people accomplish things, but she can be a bit possessive.

Can be seen as a bit pushy, but will back down if you say you're uncomfortable

She wants to rant about her interest in religion but she fears being annoying since she's shut down a lot, if you indulge her she will love you forever and be your own personal cheerleader

She likes to bake cookies and will give you some if you're nice to her (they may or may not have her blood in them but who knows)

Kaito Momota

Dude's a dick, a fun dick but a dick nonetheless

Play fights a lot which usually ends up with him pinning you to the ground and saying some suggestive comment

Encourages the buffoonery that the class gets up to and is the self assigned leader of their misadventures

Show him genuine kindness and you will have a bodyguard, will even tone down the shitty attitude if you ask him nicely

He likes going out at night and just walk through town enjoying the stars and the night sky

Gonta Gokuhara

Scary dude, class transportation

Resting bitch face 2.0, but unlike Shuichi he will be more expressive

Likes nature and will take you outside for hangouts, he finds it peaceful and relaxing

Will infodump about his interest to the people he's close to and will in turn protect them from bullies and such

Do not bully Gonta's friends, that boy puts his muscle to good use and has possible rage issues

Miu Iruma

Less vulgar than in-game Miu but still lives in the gutter

She's smart in very specific and concerning subjects but won't remember what she read in her history textbook

Will tell you how to get away with murder in 5 steps or less but doesn't know when Japan got its independence

Second in command on the class's missadventures, has to be kept in check to make sure nothing blows up

Laughs like a 7th grader when you say something remotely suggestive, "that's what she said" following 90% of the time

Kirumi Tojou

Quiet, worried mom friend, partner in crime with Ryoma

Psychologically analyses her classmates for fun and calls them out on their bs, lovingly tho

Has a heart attack whenever a class trip is announced, contemplates buying leashes for them

Likes to make you tea as you two complain about your classmates to each other, sometimes others join

Tutor 2.0, teams up with Ryoma and Shinguuji and they are basically responsible for the class passing the year

If you insult her she'll Just insult you back until your begging for her to stop, most likely Captain of a debate club

Doesn't say a lot but when she does, She Talks

Tenko Chabashira

She's all over the place, all the time

She might look scary but she has the Mii theme song playing on loop all the time

Gets attached to the first person who shows her affection like a puppy

She likes plants and taking care of plants, I feel like they calm her down. She also likes green so she might be biased

Is on the hunt for the class cryptid because she's skeptic on the supernatural/paranormal

He's a loner mostly because he's so off putting sometimes

Discusses philosophical and moral questions without prompting that lead to class debates, he thrives

Writes poetry when he's bored, it's surprisingly deep and well written

If he likes you, he will compare you to the 7 Wonders of the World, calling you the 8th one

Has very clean handwriting or writes in hieroglyphics, no in between

Maki Harukawa

She's quiet because she's kind of scared of her classmates

Has a lot of siblings and is the neighborhood babysitter, she gets along well with children

Gets adopted by Kaito and you and goes along with his antics, actually enjoys it

A regular in the class tutor service, taking care of her siblings takes up a lot of her time and effort

Is a cat magnet for some reason and that makes Ryoma give her discounts

Tsumugi Shirogane

Degenerate weeb (affectionate)

Also a regular at the tutoring service, she daydreams a lot and by the time she stops the lesson is over

Unspoken bond between her and Shuichi, takes a weeb to know a weeb

Likes doing people's hair and makeup, she'll make you look fabulous

Makes various origamis for her friends and you

The Miys, Ch. 118

Winding down to the end of 2020, when there will be an announcement regarding the story. No worries: I’m not stopping at the end of the year!

First, thanks for this chapter go to: @zommbiebro for Jokul, @wildforestferret for Hannah, @baelpenrose for Alistair and being an amazing Beta Reader/writing partner, and @raven-fae for originally giving me the NERVE to start posting this so long ago.  I never imagined that a one-off response to a writing prompt would become so much!

Housekeeping stuff: I updated the Master List and the page links over the weekend (whew), and also finished all the chapters that will post through the end of the year! Much excite, so relief.

Rushing between appointments, I was trying to multitask by looking over one of the files for the cooking class volunteers.  Quiet beeps in the back of my mind should have reminded me to watch where I was going as I kept setting off proximity warnings in people I nearly ran into.  I was so focused on my task that I ignored the mutters around me of how rude I was being, until the alert suddenly started getting louder and louder, practically screaming before I snapped out of my trance and stopped walking.

In front of me was a familiar set of broad shoulders, and just past him was a wall that I nearly ran us both into. “Conor, what are you doing?” I asked, started to see him seemingly just staring at a wall and humming away.

He turned toward me with a grin, dropping a kiss on the top of my head in greeting. “I didn’t realize that was you,” he answered. “I heard someone coming, but figured they would either turn or rather run into me than the wall.”

“And why are you staring at the wall?”

“Wasn’t staring,” he corrected. “I was working on this.” He stepped aside with a flourish, revealing one of the wall-tanks set up throughout the Ark for Else. Soft yellow motes drifted in the tank, evidence of Else’s continued breakneck evolution. However, this tank had something new in it…

“You put snowflakes in there?” I asked, confused.

He ran a hand through his hair and laughed. “When Sam, Derek, and I started putting out the Insert Winter Holiday decorations this week, Else got curious and asked what we were doing.  Derek explained - he talks to them better than I do - and they wanted something in their habitat, too, like we have.”

“And you decided on snowflakes?”

“Else picked that, actually. They are very curious about snow, since they developed… well, here, where there is no weather…”

“I guess that is fair.” Suddenly, I felt rude for talking about Else like they weren’t present. I still hadn’t gotten in the habit of speaking directly to them. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you…” I cringed a little inside.

Is okay, Else replied. We are not offended. Will we see real snow one day?

I thought about it. “Probably? Von has atmosphere, and the nights are long enough that the temperature probably gets really cold. It may have the right conditions for snow.”

Many humans think snow is beautiful. We would like to see snow.

“You and me both, buddy,” I admitted. “I love it.”

Conor shuddered. “No thank you. You can keep your cold mush.” Checking his databand, he groaned. “I have to get going. See you later, Else.” He dropped another kiss on my head. “I’ll see you at dinner,” he promised.

“No bruises?”

“No bruises.”

I smiled before jumping to check the time myself. “Shit,” I swore softly. “Else, I gotta go, too. I have an appointment five minutes ago.”

Humans can time travel?

“I wish,” I muttered, practically running to get there on time. I prayed that Alistair kept Hannah busy while I raced to our interview.

I showed up breathless and dishevelled, but only ten minutes late. Great first impression you’re giving, I scolded myself as I tried to get my hair somewhat more tidy and catch my breath. Straightening, I scanned my datapad and entered my office.

Hannah was nodding seriously at something Alistair was saying, and all I could do was pray he wasn’t telling her some embarrassing story about me. Both of them looked up as I entered, and Hannah approached me to shake my hand. “Hello, Sophia! Or should I address you as Councillor. I’m not entirely sure…”

“Sophia is fine,” I reassured her.  “Did Alistair explain why I asked you to meet with me today?”

She shook her head. “No, we were just talking about Zachary’s work with Councilor Ranganathan.”

“That is part of it,” I agreed. “Zach is one of several people who Pranav is mentoring, hoping to build a pool of candidates to fill his position in the future. I asked you to meet with me to see if you would be interested in doing the same, with me?”

Her eyes widened. “You want me… to learn your job?”

“I assure you, it is much safer than I make it look.” I tried to sound confident, but was already bracing for her to reject the position.

“It’s not that - “ Wait, what? “I just. Do you really think I could?”

“You wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think you could do it,” I assured her, somewhat dumbfounded. Recovering quickly, I pushed on. “I want to be clear - this is an elected position, so there is no guarantee that you would be my successor. The goal of the mentorship is to help you decide if you even want to do it, at all, along with ensuring that the Ark has the opportunity to choose between people who definitely know how to do the job. And more importantly, want to do the job.”

Alistair picked up from there. “In the Before, if you remember, many elections were decisions based on which candidate would do the least harm, rather than the most good. The Council is trying to change that.”

She nodded in understanding. “So there would be other people you are mentoring?”

So far, so good. “Hopefully three, yes.”

“Will you be working with us at the same time?”

“If all three of you accept, I am hoping to work with each of you one day per week individually, and the rest collectively,” I confirmed. “More specific than that, I will meet with all of you to explain once I know who has accepted. But I wanted to extend the offer in person, so I can answer any questions you may have.”

Hannah nodded again. “Would we be working the same hours you do?”

I was very glad Alistair and I already thought that part through, along with Tyche’s input. “Initially, no. You would only work half of my shift, and what half would be at my discretion.  However, this would be considered your job allotment, so you would not have to worry about any schedule conflicts. The only reason I will be deciding which half of my shift you work is because it may change due to Council meetings that you may not be privy to, or if there is nothing beneficial to your learning happening during the other half.”

“Why only half?” She asked.

“Councilors generally work double shifts,” Alistair advised her. When her eyes widened again, he continued, “In my experience, as her assistant, she will never ask you to work as much as she does, but she is very insistent that if she is not working, neither are you.”

I shook my head at him. “What he isn’t explaining is that there are also often large gaps in my day when I have no appointments and no paperwork to go through. So being in the office for sixteen to twenty hours sounds grueling, but I am rarely here the entire time.  That’s just the window when people are allowed to set appointments, or when the Council can convene outside of emergencies.”

Her shoulders sagged with relief. “I was honestly about to walk out until you explained that a bit better.”

I leaned over to Alistair and hissed. “People skills!”

“Professionalism…” he murmured back.

Hannah smiled at our antics. “Another question: What exactly do you do?”

I groaned, and Alistair smirked at me. Jokul had been so right on that point that it wasn’t even funny. “Since Zach is shadowing Pranav, I’m going to assume you know how the parts about voting in Council sessions works, right?” She nodded. “Okay, so that’s the big part that most people know about. They vote on an issue, their votes go to their representative Councilor, who votes on their behalf, short version. On a day to day basis, each Councilor is responsible for heading up everything on the Ark in a certain field. For me, that’s any large scale events, staffing, or major adjustments to how people are able to live their day-to-day lives. I have one assistant,” I gestured to Alistair, “and an Administrator, my sister Tyche.  She handles all of the small staffing concerns, because she is amazing at it.”

“So… Insert Winter Holiday, the annual Food festival…?”

I nodded. “Along with the gravity changes, the day cycle changes, the proximity alerts, creating and maintaining quiet rooms, finding people to back fill gaps caused by large projects or initiatives, large scale announcements to the ship, et cetera.”

“That’s… a lot…” She bit her bottom lip in concern.

“Really, it’s a handful of major events each year, plus the daily stuff.  And I work really closely with the other Councilors, largely because once most projects are past a staffing point, it falls under their jurisdiction to execute.”

Slowly, she nodded. “Okay…” After a moment, she nodded much more firmly. “Okay, I’ll try it.”

One down, two to go, I cheered in my head as I resisted the urge to scream with joy.

Sans is an Avatar of the Spiral, marked by the Dark and the Web.

It wasn’t a matter of whether or not he was going to get featured; that was an inevitability in itself. It was a matter of when I was going to get off my ass, stop kinning him and get down to work for once.

Ah, who else on the internet has not heard of Sans Undertale at this point? Just slap a blue, glowing eye on an OP motherfucker, play the first four notes of Megalovania, and presto; comedy gold! But, as much as I would love to sit down and talk about the significance of his presence, so much so that he has gotten an entire Mii costume on SSBU, instead we will be talking about his role in Undertale in its three most significant routes: (True) Pacifist, Genocide, and No Mercy.

Even in-game, when in comparison to the rest of the cast, Sans is an ‘enigma’. Design-wise, at least at first glance, he doesn’t appear to be too out-of-place; he’s a living skeleton, a common enemy in most RPGs, with an urban and more human twist, and he even has his own exaggerated-and-goofy-yet-realistic personality that is fitting with the (initially) uplifting tone of Undertale! Hahah, right...? If that was the case, then he wouldn’t be having this large following that is still growing as we speak. In truth, Sans is one of those characters who is hiding more than what we, as first-players, may see upon getting this game fresh from Steam/its DVD box, and there appears to be more secrets that surround him that not even the most dedicated of theorists have come close to finding out.

Let’s take another glance at his interactions with the player: he comes up to you as a threatening aura eminates from the atmosphere you walk through as you first leave the Ruins, covered in shadows. You hear something break, prompting you turn around and see that the heavy wooden log was broken like it was almost nothing. You then reach the bars, and you feel the icy winds slapping you spine; a figure is walking up behind you. You hear a whisper, telling you to turn around and shake his hand, and you do so without your knowledge- you had no control over your own body. Your heart was reaching your throat, your teeth clenched and froze in place, and all your nerves caught fire as the person reached out their own hand, grabbed yours, and you hear the sound of...a whoopie cushion.

What a nice first introduction! After that moment of crushing suspense, he introduces himself as “sans. sans the skeleton.” and immediately starts talking abour his brother and his affinity for human-hunting. After playing around and going with Papyrus’ antics, you start to hear of his reputation from both his brother and the people of Snowdin, that he’s a lazy bones who, alongside Papyrus, had appeared out of nowhere and made themselves a place to stay here. They even mention how quickly he gets to places without them even realizing that he got off the chair, almost as if he teleported-

Oh right. That.

As you traverse further through the Underground, Sans invites you to eat with him at Grillby’s, claiming that “he knows a shortcut”. You leave the entrance to Waterfall, then, bam, you’re at the entrance of his favorite diner. As you continue your gameplay, you begin to notice that he is almost always at his post; no matter how fast you get to each available location in the underground, you will find Sans at the post present within that area.

This power of his has gone mostly unexplained throughout the game, as does... well, most of the other things he does that don’t exactly fit with almost everything that is considered to be the norm in UT. For example, after each ending (but one), you get a call from him, and he then describes to you how everything is going after you have left the underground- depending on how you’ve played the game, the future of all the monsters you have met and left behind will either remain somewhat hopefully or be completely bleak, and Sans will either congratulate or belittle you depending on what you’ve done throughout the game.

Another thing that doesn’t sit right with us is his connection to “other worlds”. Let me explain: After completing a set of certain criteria, you are given the key to his own bedroom, where you will then have to find the silver key that leads to the basement of his and Papyrus’ house. The basement houses his workshop, which contain a covered up and possibly broken machine, blueprints that are written in unreadable symbols, and a third object that changes upon circumstance (a photo album)- one of these conditions is by talking to the Clam Girl after the True Pacifist ending, in which a picture of three crudely drawn people that you do not recognize will be featured within the photo album with the phrase “don’t forget” written on its back; a nod to Toby’s upcoming game, Deltarune. While one could interpret River Person warning us of “the man who came from another world” as them referring to Gaster, another interpretation would be of them warning us about Sans.

This also goes without mentioning his alleged association with W.D Gaster, and the mysterious man’s disappearance/demise upon “falling into his own creation”. (hence his Dark marking, on top of Sans’ association with science)

Now, the reason why I have put “but one” in between brackets back there is because, well, try and think of that one ending that doesn’t feature him calling you as a form of a brief epilogue. What else than an ending without anyone left to relay the tale? It is the Genocide route.

There exists no legitimate way to properly kill, much less engage in a fight with, Sans in any other route but that of total destruction and the decimation of an entire kingdom. Even after you kill Papyrus in any other ending, all he’ll do is stay away from your line of sight for the rest of the game, and the worst he’ll do to you after that is call you a “dirty brother killer” and outright wishing that you to go to Hell. In your face. All that will occur if you were proven not to be a threat to an entire species, but once you’ve proven yourself to be exactly that... well, I hope you’ve packed up a lot of Fsteaks and ramen for what is going to arrive next.

So, secrets and hiding, right? Wouldn’t these two fall under the umbrella of either the Dark or the Stranger? Wouldn’t the later entity make more sense, seeing that he has a perpetual smile on his face?

As I said, he may have more depth than what the eye may not be able to see at first sight, and the reason why most are unable to first get the idea that he’s more integral to the overarching plot of UT/DR is this: all were obfuscated by his own lies.

He lies to himself every morning that everything will be okay, while knowing that the Underground is stuck in a perpetual time loop and that nothing he does actually matters. He lied to his brother and everyone around him that he’s just a lazy-bones in order to hide his depression. He lied to the player so that they would lower the guards around him. He lies, and he lies a fuck ton.

He lies to Toriel in the Exiled Queen ending, not wanting to tell her of the monstrosities you have committed. He lies to Papyrus in the Papyrus Ending about the wherabouts of the monsters you have killed, claiming to him that they are currently “on vacation”. Even his description in-battle is a fucking lie (or a half-truth, depending on how you’d like to see it).

He hates making promises, seeing that a level of truthfulness and having to stick to it are required, as well as the fear of everything he ever does being all for naught due to the anomaly that rules over everything within this game making it look completely unnecessary and pointless. 

But, on the other hand, it is through him that the lies surrounding the game’s mechanics begin to drop. As he judges you, he begins to explain on how Execution Points and Levels of Violence truly work; that this world does not work under the player’s whims and is not the same to the other RPGs they may have played prior to UT- it’s not Pokemon or Dragon Quest logic that rules over these lands you have trespassed through. The monsters you’ve encountered had lives - they had homes and families - and, depending on what route you’ve chosen to play through, he will judge you based on your interactions with them in and outside of battle.

For his web marking, look no further than his dialogue within the Genocide route, as he speaks of an anomaly (us, basically) that is causing the timelines to go haywire, and he later on laments on how he has given up on everything over it. Quote, “look. i gave up trying to go back a long time ago, and getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either. ‘cause even if we do... we'll just end up right back here, without any memory of it, right?” ...

While several of my prior wish list picks didn’t happen, I’m very satisfied with both the base roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well as with the DLC characters that have been announced/released so far.

That being said, l can’t deny that the announcement of more DLC coming has prompted me to prepare another wish list. As with the prior ones, I won’t be particularly sad or angered if any of my picks don’t happen, but I definitely will be elated. (Heck, as things stand, I will probably accept anyone/anything they add to the game provided it at least has an interesting move-set).

Some base assumptions made before going into the list:

Until stated otherwise by the development team, I’m assuming that, besides the fifth character of the Fighter Pass still pending reveal, we will get at the very least a Second Season/Fighter Pass that will contain the same exact amount of content as the first Fighter Pass: Five new characters, each with their own stage, music tracks and Spirit battles.

I’m assuming that, as with prior DLC on the Fighter Pass, all the new characters will be Third Party rather than Nintendo owned. I don’t expect more Microsoft or Sony owned characters, however (yes, Banjo and Kazooie are finally in the game, but they honestly feel more like an especial exception, rather than any indication of things going forward).

I’m also assuming that characters already in the game as Spirits, Assist Trophies or Mii Costumes won’t be part of the upcoming DLC (so, sadly, no Geno, no Rayman, no Shantae and no X ;_;).

Without further ado and in no particular order:

KOS-MOS from Xenosaga. A somewhat unlikely pick, but then again, Bandai Namco is one of the few Third Party publishers already present in Smash Bros. that don’t have multiple playable characters in the game (conspicuously even, given they are helping to develop it). Given that KOS-MOS seems to be one of their characters that most often shows in crossover games, her inclusion seems plausible. Now, if I have to be honest, I particularly want her because I think the Xeno series (and by extension, Monolith Soft, the studio responsible for all its iterations and which has been a great asset for Nintendo in recent years) deserves more representation in Smash Bros. However, with Elma, Rex and Pyra/Mithra out of the competition by virtue of being Spirits, KOS-MOS is the best bet to get another Xeno character in the game (mind you, I do like her design and think her move-set could potentially be interesting).

Nightmare from Soul Calibur (with Sigfried as an alternate costume). A very unlikely pick. While Terry Bogard being announced as the next DLC character makes me think we will see at least another fighting game character as DLC, it’s way more likely that we will see a Tekken character than one from Soul Calibur, by virtue of the former being more popular than the later. However, as I have mentioned before, I don’t really play Tekken, and Soul Calibur is my favorite 3D Fighter franchise, so pardon me again for the blatant favoritism.  

Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. This one seems like a no-brainer by this point. Ninja Gaiden is one of the few iconic franchises originating from the NES era that hasn’t appeared in Smash Bros. yet, and Koei Tecmo has maintained a close relationship with Nintendo in recent years (even helping with the development of Fire Emblem: Three Houses). Furthermore, Hayabusa is probably their most iconic character, not only being the protagonist of Ninja Gaiden (both the original NES series, as well as the modern reboot series), but also a mainstay in the Dead or Alive franchise, and even having cameos and guest appearances in the Warriors franchise.

Crash Bandicoot. Somewhat unlikely but not impossible. His major disadvantage is that he comes from a Western franchise, and Masahiro Sakurai and Nintendo tend to prioritize Japanese franchises when it comes to deciding on newcomers for Smash. That being said, the fact that the games on the original PlayStation were very popular in Japan and that the franchise is currently having a renaissance of sorts help his chances. If I have to be honest, while I have developed a soft spot for Crash after playing the N. Sane Trilogy recently, I mostly want him in Smash Bros. for a) The inherent appeal of having him battling Mario and Sonic as the big videogame mascot characters from the 90’s, b) the sheer irony of Nintendo getting three (3!) Third Party PSX icons (Crash, Snake and Cloud) in their exclusive fighting crossover when Sony didn’t even manage to do that for theirs.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin’s Creed. Another unlikely but not necessarily impossible pick. The major issue against him is that he comes from another Western franchise, his major advantage is that it’s Ubisoft’s most popular and best-selling franchise worldwide, and Ubisoft remains as one of Nintendo’s major Third Party supporters. Now, if this franchise do comes to Smash Bros., I think they could pick any protagonist to represent it (possibly even go the Hero route and have several protagonists as alternate costumes with the same move-set), but Ezio seems to be the most iconic of them, hence why I have chosen him as my pick (and before somebody asks or protests: Yes, he has actually made an appearance on a game for a Nintendo console: Assassin’s Creed Discovery for the Nintendo DS).

A character from Capcom. This one is admittedly cheating on my part. Capcom has so many iconic characters and franchises (several of which have historical ties with Nintendo consoles or finally arrived to them thanks to the Switch) that you could fill an entire Fighter Pass solely with them. However, it seems that Nintendo is trying to spread their collaborations among several companies, rather than privileging a single one in particular, so at most I would only expect one or two characters from Capcom as part of Ultimate’s DLC. But rather than engage in the monumental task of boiling down the selection to only one or two characters, I will simply list here all the Capcom characters that I think would be neat to see in Ultimate: Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney, Rad Spencer from Bionic Commando, Morrigan Aensland from Darkstalkers, Frank West from Dead Rising, Dante from Devil May Cry, Mike Haggar from Final Fight, Firebrand from Gargoyle’s Quest/Demon’s Crest, Sir Arthur from Ghost n’ Goblins, Amaterasu from Okami, Leon S. Kennedy and/or Claire Redfield and/or Chris Redfield and/or Jill Valentine and/or Albert Wesker from Resident Evil (yeah, I couldn’t boil down this franchise to one specific pick, it just has too many iconic characters without a single one being more representative than the rest), Strider Hiryu from Strider, Joe from Viewtiful Joe.

Finally, a bonus pick: A character that I honestly believe is so incredibly unlikely to ever get into Smash Bros. that I’m not really considering him seriously, but I would laugh out loud if it actually happens:

The Doom Guy/Doom Marine/Doom Slayer from (duh!) Doom: It seems like this character has gotten a lot of clamor among certain circles of the Smash Bros. community in recent times. I can only assume that he started as what you could call “an ironic meme pick”: Most of the people who originally talked about him and proposed him for Smash Bros. didn’t actually want him in the game, but it was fun to bring him up given the incongruity of such an ultra-violent character appearing in an E10+ rated game …Then characters like Bayonetta and Joker were actually added to Smash Bros., and people started to consider him as a serious candidate. In his favor: The Doom series actually has historical appearances on Nintendo consoles (the SNES got a version of the original Doom running with the Super FX chip that powered Star Fox; Doom 64 was an acclaimed game that was exclusive to the N64 until very recently), the entire series is going to be playable on the Switch after Doom Eternal releases, and if you can tone down Bayonetta enough for her to appear in an E10+ rated game, you can certainly do the same with the Doom Slayer. Against him: He comes from another Western franchise, but unlike Ubisoft or Activision Blizzard (which have been long time Third Party publishers on Nintendo consoles), Bethesda only started to support Nintendo on the Switch era; most importantly however: the First Person Shooter genre is exceptionally unpopular in Japan (and Doom as well by extension), it’s pretty much a niche genre there in the same way that RPG’s used to be in the West. So, for those reasons, I’m not really expecting to see the Doom Slayer in Ultimate’s DLC, even if, strictly speaking, is not out of the realm of possibility for that to happen.

Chapter Summary: Josh reveals some of Dema’s secrets to Tyler, Ildri begins a new acquaintance, and Faylinn must decide what to do about her novel. Warnings: None? Word Count: 1495 A/N: This series was borne of this picture. The bolded phrases are prompts I have compiled to use in this fic. Also, I’ve forgotten to mention before that for the phrases in Ukrainian, I’ve been using Google Translate; forgive me if they’re not accurate!

At the end of every day of work, Josh looked forward to taking the slow walk home, joking around with his friends, discussing the events of the day, who had tried to escape, who was making comments against the Bishops. The usual chitter chatter that built and built until he was home and all was quiet. Only Tyler occasionally come to interrupt the silence, and even then it was mostly because the other man wanted company. 

It was while listening to something Tyler was saying that Josh nearly bumped into a page. The young boy in his black hooded cape and red veil — a variation of the dress and colors which the Bishops wore — stood directly in Josh’s path, and he only stopped himself from knowing the boy over because he looked forward at the last minute. 

“The Bishop Keons wishes to see you in the temple immediately.”

Josh and Tyler exchanged a glance. Nothing about the page’s empty, flat tone assured them this would be a routine visit. There was no such thing within the walls of Dema. Josh hesitated just long enough that the page locked eyes with him. The empty, flat tone was reflected in the empty, flat eyes that stared at Josh through the red mesh. 

Josh nodded. “Of course. I’ll come right away.”

“You may follow me.”

The page turned and began walking, leaving no time for Josh to linger. With one last traded glance with his friend, Josh’s certain steps led him in the direction of the temple. 

When he reached the building, the page disappeared to the left, and Josh continued down the aisle toward the altar where all of the Bishops were waiting in a semi-circle formation behind a large cement block. Keons stepped forward, breaking the formation, and met Josh just in front of that block. The Bishop placed one hand on either side of Josh’s neck. 

“Vy buly obrani, miy syn.”

Josh was still trying to figure out what the Bishop meant when fingers on either side of his neck began to pull away, leaving thick, black lines in their wake. All at once, every ounce of confusion left him. His only purpose was to service Dema; to do the will of the Bishops. 

When Josh woke, everything was different. He was stronger, he could see clearer, he was so acutely aware of his surroundings. 

As weeks and months passed, Josh maintained a strong friendship with Tyler, and it kept him grounded. Dema held secrets that the humans were not aware of, and the Heathens dared not make them aware. Their lives depended on the secrecy they maintained for the Bishops. 

In all the time he had been a Heathen, through all the secrets Josh had kept, never once had he known for a Bishop to request the help of a new Heathen in gaining information from outside of the wall. 

“You have to think,” Josh encouraged his friend, pacing back and forth in Tyler’s room after Tyler had asked him to be the Heathen who went with him on the assigned mission. “What in your past would make them want you to go look for this woman?”

Tyler frowned. “My past? Josh, I have no past. I was born here in Dema, I grew up. I have the same memories that you have.”

“No. None of that is true.”

“So I’m lying?”

“No, the Bishops are!” Josh hissed out, throwing his hands up in frustration. “The Bishops brainwash every human they bring in to Dema. They give you memories of a life lived here so that you won’t want to go back to the life you lived before.”

The moment this fact processed in Tyler’s brain was evident on the man’s face. Josh immediately regretted the way he had delivered the news, but he was worried for his friend’s safety — and that he would be brought down with Tyler. 

Josh drew in a deep breath, then let it out slowly. “You swear you didn’t talk to anyone but me about getting out of Dema?”

Tyler nodded, his eyes still staring at the far wall. “I swear.”

Josh nodded. “Okay. All right. Let’s just concentrate on that.”

Tyler cleared his throat and gave Josh all of the details Reisdro had given to him. The assigned mission should be simple enough, but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t without its risks. 

Quinn Walsh was gathering a stack of papers handed in by her students when Ildri arrived in the lecture hall. She walked against the flow of students exiting the hall, toward Quinn. 

“Quinn Walsh?” she asked, extending her hand. 

“Yes, that’s me,” Quinn said, looking around cautiously as she shook Ildri’s hand. “Can I help you?”

“I’m Ildri Van Helsing, I’m an administrative assistant for the New Dema Conference. My boss, Andre Weil, asked that I come and ask you some questions regarding the mythology in Old Dema, for a new piece we are hoping to add to the government’s library and resources. I suppose I could have emailed or called, but I was hoping to catch you at a good time?”

“Oh,” Quinn smiled, oddly relieved. “Yes, of course. I’m flattered that the government would choose me, specifically. The head of the department here, he’s been around a lot longer than I have.”

Ildri nodded. “You’re not wrong, Ms. Walsh —”

“Please, call me Quinn.”

“Quinn,” Ildri corrected, “you’re not wrong. He is not, however, as familiar with the mythology of Old Dema as you are. You wrote your thesis over the Bishops and their beliefs, however, and so we wanted to start with someone more recently acquainted with the information. If you’re available, I would love to ask you some questions over coffee, or even lunch. The government will treat.”

She added that last part with a wink, which caused Quinn to chuckle. The ice effectively broke, Ildri offered up one of her favorite lunch spots for their meeting. The meal would give her longer to ask Quinn questions and begin to form a relationship with the other woman. 

Before too long, Ildri hoped, she would find answers as to why Quinn Walsh was seeking passage inside the wall of Old Dema. 

Night had fallen by the time Faylinn closed The Book of Clancy and set it on the table before her. She hadn’t so much as glanced at the other books; she was too drawn in to this person, his life in Dema, and his occasional stays in Trench. 

What was it like to be caught between the two worlds, Faylinn wondered to herself. Probably something akin to how she felt, deciding whether to finish her novel or leave it be and start something new. 

The book had not done anything to clarify for her just how much danger she may be in if she continued the novel and published it. 

“Right,” Faylinn scoffed to herself. “Let the entire world know about secrets held within that wall, and see how your life turns out.”

Faylinn could see now that beginning that novel, while the idea had been brilliant, was a suicide mission all along. Then again, maybe the world needed to know. Of course, with New Dema’s proximity to the old world, what kind of repercussions would her hometown face if others decided to risk going up against the Bishops and other inhabitants of Old Dema?

These were not questions she would gain answers to that evening. She checked her watch, realizing that Ildri was likely long gone by now. With a frown, she pulled out her phone and rang her cousin; the call went straight to voicemail. 

“Il, it’s me, I’m still in the library. What happened to you? Anyway, I’m going to head back to the apartment, I guess maybe I’ll see you later. Just let me know you’re all right.”

After disconnecting the call, Faylinn let herself out of the library, and then out of the government building. The drive to the apartment was uneventful, and she found that when she got home, the only right thing she could think to do was to continue the novel. 

“Writing it doesn’t mean I need to publish it,” she told herself, sitting down to her computer and pulling up the manuscript file. “It’s an ace up my sleeve, so to speak.”

Indeed, it would be. 

Yellow eyes watched the red-haired woman from the shadows of the street. The woman’s second-floor apartment did not make it difficult to watch her every move as she returned home from the university after dark, changed out of her business casual outfit to more comfortable lounge clothes, then began working on supper. 

The yellow eyes watched for hours, waiting for any telltale sign of what this woman was, who she was, really. It was not until the woman had readied for bed and took one last look out the window, her irises shining red for a split second, that anything appeared to be amiss.

Who said “I love you” first: Misora. It was during one of the times Sento was seriously hurt; she was bandaging and crying while doing so, prompting Sento to ask her what’s wrong. She says she really hates seeing him hurt; Sento jokes that it’s probably because she likes him and she says, “What if I do?”  

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background: Sento. Kazumin raged about it for days because his picture of Mii-tan was slightly less… cute than the one Sento has on his phone.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror: Sento does, but they’re actually equations that Misora has no patience to decipher. Not that anyone can, Sento, are you kidding here?

Who buys the other cheesy gifts: Misora. Well she buys him sweets, mostly.

Who initiated the first kiss: Sento. It was awkward as hell but very…rewarding.

Who kisses the other awake in the morning: I feel like they both skip this because they usually sleep in idk

Who starts tickle fights: Misora!

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower: No one, they are both pure children I refuse to think about this for a second longer

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch: Misora! She cooks for Sento but Banjo ends up eating most of it, the jerk

Who was nervous and shy on the first date: Sento lmao. He ended up sounding monotonous and robot-like because he was so afraid to say the wrong thing. He’s lucky Misora was just too happy to be with him.

Who kills/takes out the spiders: Sento. He may… also have transformed to Build in order to effectively carry out this task.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk: Sento, much to their group’s collective amusement.

What Do I Post: so i started this account specifically to join the UT sub-fandom largely unknown to the outside world just in case i died in an accident or of shame so what I meant to say is i mostly peddle questionably dirty laundry fanart related to the sub-fandom while occasionally try to muster up words (and pics) at fanfic writers on what a great job they did in a mild and level-headed manner while actually scared to death and crying (i maybe want to try peddling some fanfics too tho even though i i i’ve never written before IT JUST....LOOKS SO FUN.....
