I don't care if your 9, 20, 35, or fucking 50. Your patents can go to the doctor with you. It's called your patient advocate.
See I have bad reactions to medications and sometimes those conversations with doctors go
"so what was your reaction?"
"Honestly I cannot remember"
Sometimes it's symptoms like brain fog that causes me to not remember. Sometimes I lose time. Sometimes I just sleep so much. There's a lot of reasons why I can't remember. But I always remember it was really bad the doctor should know I had a really bad reaction.
And I do not have a partner that can go to appointments with me.
So I bring a parent.
Why? Because when the doctor asks "What was the reaction" the parent actually remembers.
But the number of doctors that have infantilized me "You're a grown adult you don't need your parent."
And the thing is. I know what the doctor is doing when they do this. My parents won't let the doctor dismiss my symptoms because my parents are the ones that have to drive me to the emergency room when they get too bad. But if the doctor refuses to let my parent in "You're a grown adult" the "diagnosis" I get is always "Oh, it's just anxiety".
And I feel like doctors know when I'm having brain fog and therefore they can take advantage of me like that because I'm too confused to argue with them. "Oh. Why do you let your doctor talk to you like that". YEAH THAT'S A SYMPTOM OF MY MIGRAINES. THAT'S KINDA WHY I'M GOING TO THE DOCTOR.

Re-reading October 3rd and they just leave Renfield to die. Alone, in the cell he has spent an unclarified but presumably lengthy amount of time in. He dies alone and trapped, just like he spends the whole of the book.
His death is tragic, just as so many in the book are, but is focused on so little. He's just forgotten as soon as he's no longer relevant.

not to be tipsy and manic on main but I saw a post on here once about someone having to prove a disability they had to get accommodation at work and that’s like mad illegal bro 😭 No employer is allowed to ask you for any personal medical information under any circumstances. All that needs to be done in, like, a lawful work place is get a doctor to sign off on your accommodations. They do not have to know ANYTHING about your medical history, and it is illegal for them to ask you ANYTHING about your personal medical history in order to give you reasonable accommodations. And I’ve found in my own experience it is much better to not share anything personal and get documented accommodations because it will also make you a target. Stay safe out their surviving capitalism with a disability! 😭

Oh and to top it off, I witnessed an incredibly ableist ultrasound tech gleefully boast to her coworker about how she retaliates against patients who ask her questions because she thinks they are doubting her intelligence.
…just let that sink in.
Retaliates, as in purposefully makes things more inconvenient for them by being even more vague and not talking them through the ultrasound like she does with patients who don’t ask questions. She also mentioned that she drags out the paperwork and makes things take longer for patients who ask “how much longer” while in the waiting room. My only solace is that her coworker actually defended the patients by saying that “they’re probably just concerned about their health” but seriously, if your ego trumps your compassion you probably shouldn’t be in healthcare.

El espejo de la bruja (The Witch's Mirror, 1962)
"Elena. Elena!"
"What? Can't you see me?"
"I couldn't help you. You were marked by fate. I couldn't help you when you were alive, but I promise to avenge your death."
#el espejo de la bruja#the witch's mirror#horror imagery#mexican cinema#1962#chano urueta#alfredo ruanova#carlos enrique taboada#rosita arenas#armando calvo#isabela corona#dina de marco#carlos nieto#alfredo wally barrón#gustavo césar carrión#abel salazar#a very busy‚ slightly silly but really quite fun little film. starts off very modestly‚ a tight 4 character piece in a single location#a sudden and genuinely unexpected hard turn into mad scientist lunacy at around the halfway mark does open it up a little: more characters#more settings‚ more wild weirdness. still very much a budget picture but the scope is definitely larger‚ the overall vision on a grander#scale. some of the onscreen horror in this second half (particularly the medical gore) feels remarkably ahead of its time; truthfully there#were films beginning to push the envelope in that regard already‚ across the world‚ but there's something about the coldly dispassionate#clinical nastiness and the bloody detail here that feels a little jarring and like it's maybe at the wrong end of the decade#also of note are some intermittently breathtaking visuals‚ particularly work with light and shadow and silhouette (almost always#relating to Isabela Corona‚ stunningly backlit on a mist shrouded twilight). if only the film could have sustained those visuals for its#entire running time‚ this would surely be one of the most celebrated horror films of its era#still it is a lot of fun and absolutely crazy in the second half. well worth finding for nasty little horror freaks (aka me)

Nothing makes me more upset than the fact everytime I mention I probably have autism to my mom she goes "you don't have autism, you might have asburgers though"....like, okay so you think I might have autism (because asburgers is just the outdated actual fucking nazi term for low support needs people) and I've tried explaining to her like, "that's outdated they're the same thing" but every time it's still "you can't possibly have AUTISM you're too smart for AUTISM, you probably have the Nazi version teehee ♡"

The images that are taken of disabled patients (to mark physical differences caused by their disability) is somehow being caught up my AI image scrapers (designed to collect all of the images it can find on the internet) and being used in the AI. What's worse is these patients have signed formed saying they don't wish for their medical images to be shared.
Whether it's a security flaw in medical systems or they were posted to the open web. This is a huge breach in privacy for many disabled patients.

I've been dealing with sensorineural hearing loss (honestly it came on really suddenly and being only 27, losing my hearing wasn't on my BINGO card). My ears are physically fine. Like textbook test results until I get to the actual stick-you-in-the-soundproof-box part. We have zero idea why. I was put on a course of steroids, which I finish tomorrow and have not, in any way, helped actually recover any hearing. So I'm looking at probably ending up with hearing aids by the end of the year.
I made the mistake of letting someone who is close to my family know because we visited her directly after my first appointment (mind you, I've been surviving on reading lips for the past month and can get by, it's just exhausting). I've more or less looked at this woman as a third grandmother and she's always treated me similar. What was her response? "You're too young for hearing aids." Like???? Miss, hearing aids aren't just an "old people thing", there's literal children who need them, but I digress. I just... How do I deal with people like this? Like we visit at least once a week and I'm honestly nervous for when I possibly end up with hearing aids. Like should I just not mention it again (she asked how the appointment went, btw) and if I need the hearing aids just...not wear them around her? I just want to avoid conflict here.

Service dog handlers…
What’s your opinion on clapping back at ableist when you are out in the world with your service dog?
I had someone get mad at me for being slow in the checkout lane at a grocery store. I was in the lane marked for accessibility and I wasn’t moving any slower than an elderly person. I was having a medical episode so I didn’t say anything at the time but I hate that I’m still thinking about it. I wonder if I would feel better if I had responded sarcastically with “sorry my disability is inconveniencing you”
Do you stand up for yourself when faced with ableism or do you think confronting them in public makes things worse?
