Fun fact: Dick used to play guitar and is still fairly good at it. Jason has an Electric guitar in his old room at the Wayne manor. Stephanie quit playing the piano but she can still the basics, and Damian plays violin.
Im not sure if it's completely right, but if it was, how would that go with the whole reader being a musician thing?
Ohhh that's interesting! I actually didn't know that before, but that's cool! (Jason definitely seems like the type to pick up an electrical guitar.)
If it was completely right I'd say that they'd probably have the reader play with them, or have the reader teach them how to play again/how they can improve. (Since again, the reader can play multiple instruments.) Though of course by 'have' I mean force.
Dick in particular would definitely always try to have a duet of some kind, or constantly suggest that hey, they should make their own song together! At least he asks even if he'll visibly sadden if the reader says any variation of 'no', but Damian does not. He will just barge in on whatever the reader is doing and either force them to listen to him play, and say how well he did, and or also force them to play with him. (Kind of like how he'll be with the whole art thing.)
Even if Jason doesn't play anymore, I think he'd kind of use it as a "oh, I used to do that too" sort of thing so he can bond with the reader more. (In theory.) He might pick it back up, but would heavily 'appreciate' lessons so he can refine his skill again, and maybe even become a lot better than he used to be, who knows?
Stephanie I feel is less forceful, and seeing as she did quit she'd probably prefer to listen to the reader's music than play with them, but she wouldn't necessarily mind if they played a simple duet either. Sure, she might be a little rusty but... if the reader's willing to help then she won't turn them down.
All in all, suddenly they're as interested in music as the reader is, and are definitely going to use it to bond with them in any way they can manage. With some being a 'bit' forceful when it comes to their attempts, compared to others.
Which may or may not 'ruin' music for the reader, or at least certain sounds for them. Since they'll begin to associate certain instruments and such with certain people, and, well, that definitely doesn't begin to mess them up after a while. No wayyyy.
Oh! Also, the other remaining members of the family might either feel compelled to learn an instrument, or just want to listen to you play that much more. Tim would at least think about picking up an instrument, same with Babs, and Bruce would join Alfred in listening. (Though lets be honest, Bruce can probably play something too.) Cass would probably do a bit of both if she can help it.
Expect the Batfam to be very interested in music suddenly, with them either asking for lessons or to play with you, or patiently waiting for you to play so that they can listen.

Hey, just in case you didn't know..
Tumblr media
You're safe here.
Listen, I get it, I really do. When starting deity work, it can be really scary. Especially if you listen to what social media says about deities. You don't wanna mess up, you don't want to offend any deities or make someone mad.
Breathe. I promise, no deities going to be mad at you if you cannot set up an altar if they're worth keeping in your practice at your early moments.
No deity is going to damn you if you forget to pray, if you can't manage to meditate as quickly as you want to, or that you think they expect you to.
Deities, they understand.
They understand the stress, the worry, the doubt, they get it. There are levels to this stuff, there are baby steps, and there are leaps. The key to everything is to simply:
Go at your own pace. Be comfortable with your practice, because it's yours.
You wanna speedrun it? Great for you! You feel the sluggish route might be better? That's so lovely. I promise, your deities are rooting for you. They'll wait for you. They'll run with you. And if you trip, they'll help you up and brush your knees. They'll cheer you on and help. They'll be there for you.
You wanna study as many deities as you can? Do it! You wanna have a smaller circle, or even just a single deity in your space? Go ahead!
And also, please, don't think you're obligated to stay the same forever. To forever stick with deities. They are not stuck to you, you are not stuck to them. If you decide to leave, they won't force you to stay.
Unless you've specifically made some sort of pact or oath or whatever that you're purely, singularly, a nun to a deity in some sort of forever devotional way and in a never-ever breaking contract, you are allowed to change. Practices can be fluid. It's how you learn what you like, what you love, what you hate, and what you dislike.
Reach out to a deity, answer a call or two, see where it goes. You might make a new friend, you might even fall in love. Or maybe, you'll simply have a lesson.
The thing is, it's all beautiful.
Because you're beautiful.

how are oby jeggy doing?
it's a saturday so !!! reg is probably working and a bit grumpy about not being able to sleep in. still, james is up before him to go for his morning run, and by the time he's back, reg is awake and has made breakfast for the both of them (he's a terrible cook but he can manage that much at least). james has a shower first, and reg jumps in with him, and they end up having a quickie. or maybe two. the point is that the food's cold when they finally emerge from the bathroom
after that, james drives reg to work, maybe even goes inside with him to greet some of his coworkers and whoever managers are on shift, bc everyone is already more than familiar with him and they Love him. reg keeps rolling his eyes at his antics but he's secretly very pleased. then they say goodbye, which involves a lot of kissing and some groping, and james leaves. he probably stops at a tesco or a sainsburys on his way home, to do some grocery shopping for himself and reg, and also buy some of reg's fav snacks so there's something nice waiting for him after his shift
james spends the day doing some chores, maybe getting lunch with lily, or sirius remus and peter, and then reading for a lil while before getting started on dinner. when the time comes, he goes to pick up reg from work, corners him in the staff room and they fool around in there (they don't get too far bc they almost get caught. this has happened SO many times, and yet they never learn their lesson). they leave together, have dinner at their flat and then pick a movie to watch that they likely won't finish either bc they'll end up fucking or bc reg will fall asleep all cuddled up at james' side. james will take him to bed, make sure his alarm is on (since reg also works sundays) and then fall asleep while hugging him close <3
all in all, very nice very domestic saturday!!!

tunaaaa just read ur newest subordinate au thing. GOD theyre both such arrogant little pricks. I'm sure dazai would be all too happy to send darling out on a dangerous mission to "teach them a lesson", but if something actually HAPPENS to them? his world is suddenly coming to an end. mean!chuuya too, I could imagine them conspiring to send darling out to the wolves so they could learn a little respect for their superiors, but greatly underestimating exactly how much danger they were realistically putting darling in. like, oops! darling managed to secure the mission but at an extreme detriment to their health! man, if only someone who could turn off their harmful ability or someone with super powerful gravity manipilation who could've backed them up had come with them! oh well! or, oops! way more people than originally predicted showed up and a bunch of people, including darling, were surrounded and taken prisoner! that sucks! suddenly they dont care about darling being a disrespectful little shit, theyre a completely perfect angel and theyre going to do everything in their power to help them.
also, darling completely losing trust in the two of them after they almost lead them into their death... maybe mori even starts discussing pushing darling off onto another executive since these two clearly don't know how to play nice with their toys. imagine THAT meltdown.
- 🩹
i'm so sad i wrote out a longgg answer and tumblr refreshed and it got DELETED.
chuuya and dazai are far from feeling responsible for your suffering. maybe if you had just listened this wouldn't have had to happen, don't you think? of course, rest assured that they'll personally find your attackers and put them through hell for the rest of their short-lived days. still, they never blame themselves for it. as far as they understand, this was necessary because you forced their hand. and really, if it was so hard or you weren't able to keep up with an unexpected addition, you should have just called them. they'd have come running to help as your very helpful superiors.
while i don't see mori moving you around just because the sheer chaos that will follow is too much trouble, i think he might just completely throw you out. it's more efficient to cut you out than punish the duo. not to mention, from what he's hearing, you've been making no progress even after a year under dazai. there's no point wasting any more time on you when you can't even handle a simple mission on your own still. however, alternatively i can suggest that if you have a powerful ability or some potential to be of use to the pm, mori might decide the only way anything will get done is if you were under his training.
now that will surely lead to complete pandemonium.

How do you think the different Riddlers would react to being somehow kidnapped by an obsessive fan............. I'm not projecting I promise the boys just belong in the basement
Kidnapped Riddlers
Riddler Headcanons *cough cough* this isn't projecting on my part either...no one would kidnap anyone on this blog, not even silly little villains who might kind of deserve to be locked up for a little while NOT AT ALL 💚 request info • prompt list • send me a request • kofi minors DNI!! 🔞 cw for nsfw stuff: mostly fluff i think, but you know me
Tumblr media
dano
this is absolutely not the way this was supposed to go
he's convinced you're working with the batman until you admit your crush
honestly, he's flattered that you watched all of his streams
and concerned that the conclusion you came to was "love"
but he'll take it, adoration from a fan is a sign that he's definitely on his way to making something of himself
but to be honest he's lost all motivation for eradicating corruption
he's quite happy to sit here blushing while you praise him
capullo
ooooh, this is kinda kinky, having him tied up like this
and the gag in his mouth? nice touch
but maybe you shouldn't have taken it out because now he won't shut up or stop complaining
like if you wanted him this bad you could have just asked
he would have come (heh) willingly
and if you're taking notes, next time he'd prefer that you were the one tied up
but hey he'll roll with the punches this time
telltale
you have exactly five minutes to explain, apologise, untie him, and scold yourself before he bonks you hard on the head with his-
ah...his cane is over there, out of reach
you're smarter than you look
which wouldn't be hard because the kind of person who would try to kidnap him is not a smart one
well, yes technically you did kidnap him
but it's only successful if he doesn't escape
and trust him, he will
you won't be hard to outsmart or outlast
young justice
bless his soul but his one defence mechanism is being so annoying that you immediately need to get rid of him
after maybe the 300th riddle it's likely you'll let him go
or smother him (with kisses???)
but he's so cute, you couldn't strangle a lil puppy like him
but you could duct tape his mouth shut, making sure not to damage his pretty sideburns
oh and now he's started humming an annoying tune
you should have known he wouldn't make it easy
arkham
you will rue the day you thought you could trap edward nigma
yes, someone like you couldn't keep a goldfish safe and secure let alone a genius like him
it's only a matter of time before he figures out the combination to these locks
and manages to get out of the copious restraints
and then figures out the password to the door
at least you've added some enrichment to his new habitat
but he won't be here long! you better enjoy him while you have him!
hope you soundproofed this room because he will keep complaining until he's free...
twojar
the ropes you've used to restrain him aren't as soft or sturdy as the kind he's used to but they'll do
interesting to note that you removed his shirt
see something you like?
oh he absolutely will try and flirt his way out of this
and there's a high chance he'll be successful
especially when he could provide so much more benefit to you with his hands free
just untie him a little bit and he can give you a taste
gotham
an infuriating subject for kidnapping
god only knows when or why he became so adept at lock picking
and where does he keep producing these pins from?
it's just lucky that he's a bit lanky and feels the need to stop for a dramatic goodbye every time he gets loose
which inevitably leads to him being captured again
you would think he would learn his lesson
but that's the definition of madness i suppose
unburied
understandable why you would want to kidnap him
but hopefully you knew what you were letting yourself in for
because he's not going to be easy to look after
he's used to being captive, and at least here he has a tv to watch
so he's not in any rush to return to arkham
but get ready to wait on him hand and foot
you were labouring under the misconception that this was a kidnapping when in fact
you seem to be catering for him as though it were a five star all-inclusive resort
and also you buttered his toast wrong again

thinking about screen time for oluwande in s2. i'd love it if the pre-reunion arc of s2 had a focus on the dynamic between olu and stede as they try to get back to the revenge. i think it would present really good opportunities for developing both characters
like: oluwande was elected captain by the crew not long ago. now stede rolls up, broke, with no actual skills, and does - what?
my guess is: greets them as their captain. which creates a very interesting moment of tension in which i suspect everyone on that sandbar stares at oluwande.
it's loaded because, on one hand, i still do not think the crew of the revenge find stede especially capable; i think they just learned by the end of s1 to like and appreciate him as a person. this does not mean they necessarily trust him with their lives! on the other hand: stede has a rowboat.
there's still a power dynamic here but suddenly it is much closer to being balanced. oluwande is experienced, a competent leader, trusted by the crew - what does stede have on him anymore? not a salary, not a ship, not even a legal identity. stede has white privilege, a certain amount of upper-class cultural capital (though who knows how far that will get him without the clothes to go with it or how many spaces he still has access to where it will do him any good), and a rowboat.
but it's this show! and so i think it will be treated as an opportunity to unpack all that stuff with a great deal of heart. im curious about, like...
oluwande's development as a leader. what is he a natural at, and where do we get to see him grow? why does he avoid leadership? has he had much opportunity to try?
if we're going by actors' ages, olu is the youngest among the remaining crew by about 10 years. yet everyone, including stede, seems to look up to him. how does he feel about that? (it can be very complicated, when you're a younger person who perhaps has some insecurities and is not going out of your way to Be Important, to be treated like a leader figure.)
the reshuffling of power dynamics among the crew now that inherited wealth is out of the picture, but race and class aren't
stede being forced to actually talk it through, as a crew. what is "it"? dunno. a lot. maybe they decide to do music therapy after all
oluwande and the crew getting to demonstrate some object lessons in what power can be in the absence of wealth. violence, sure, but also collective power, charm, skill, trickery - i suspect they'll all make a name for themselves and i'd love for it not to just be the stede bonnet captain thomas show but a fierce irrepressible gory theatrical weirdness that emerges from all of them.
who is explicitly, and implicitly, the captain at any given point in time? does stede have trouble handing off leadership? oluwande seems sympathetic to stede in s1, but how does he navigate his loyalties to stede and to the crew when they're placed at odds with each other?
obviously, i would also like backstory - i'm very curious how someone with oluwande's temperament ends up a pirate. we've all seen the text post that says oluwande has veteran mcdonald's manager energy. this being the show that it is, i don't think the answer is just going to be Upsetting Colonial Violence, either, although i doubt they would ellide the role of empire completely either. so what happened? did oluwande run away as a young man and have a rude awakening, only to realize you can't really come back from being an outlaw, and maybe that's why we saw him being so sympathetic to stede? did he work on a ship that gradually slid into piracy?
to get sentimental for a second: does oluwande love the sea? or is he dreaming of a home on the shore? has jim changed that? how?
oluwande was a really great supporting character in s1, but i'd really love to see him driving the story in s2. i think it would take the show to some really interesting, fun, heartfelt places

One thing I LOVE but that is entirely in the background is Shellfur’s… hypocrisy? Growth?
Because this guy. Son of Thornclaw and Blossomfall. Apprentice of Bumblestripe. Is shown to be on the imposter’s side, pins down Spotfur after his brother dies. Is basically the xenophobic mouthpiece of his generation. Against the rebels.
THEN TAKES A WINDCLAN MATE AND MOVES HER TO THUNDERCLAN??
Like how did he and Fernstripe happen?? She seems extremely bubbly in her prior appearances and he is a little rat. Did he have a Windclan gf all this time?? Or did he have offscreen character growth??
Very curious to see how you might manage this
I too am FASCINATED by Shellfur. Like... what is this guy's deal.
Quick note on a Family Tree fix: Blossomfall's kittens are sireless; Thornclaw dies in the Great Battle and thus is not their father. Also Eaglewing has been axxed; it's only Shellfur, Plumstone, and Stemleaf.
Logically, I can see him sort of 'overcompensating' for the fact he was in a Half-Clan relationship, but that's one of my least favorite tropes honestly. The idea that, like, the bigot is so bigoted because secretly He's The Thing He Dislikes.
I feel like that's what canon is going to do; but I'd prefer to avoid it.
Personally I like the idea that his tune really changed after Stemleaf's death, and the birth of his nespring. I would approach him as really looking up to his uncle Bumble and being a little bit of a mama's boy, believing that being mean is funny and idolizing Bumblestripe's quick fury, but then that mindset kills Stemleaf in front of him
And now Spotfur, a cat he was a bully towards, is the one who decides if he gets to see his nespring or not. Suddenly he has to learn how to be nice.
In fact maybe it would be cute if that's how him and Fernstripe bonded... Fernstripe is the sweetest, nicest person he knows, even though she's in WindClan. Plus, if he's stupid or embarrassing no one will ever know.
"So you want me to give you... niceness lessons?"
"Well when you say it like that it sounds stupid. Think of it more like... prevent-me-from-never-seeing-my-family lessons."
"You seem like a very sad little man :("
"Well that's not very niceness lesson of you."
Though I'm not sure how that would work out in the timeline. I'll have to look into it; maybe have her join well into ASC, maybe they'll meet up as a result of Harestar fighting alongside the impostor and end up on a couple of patrols together, where they found they hit it off very well.
There's also always the tunnels, or just meeting up in the Maple Patch beyond the reworked gorge. Maybe ThunderClan and WindClan got friendly enough to collaborate on collecting syrup for a while after AVoS.

Caught, tiny!Dustin and giant!Eddie
Warnings for cursing, stabbing, and a brief second where vore is alluded to. Will there be a part two? Who knows!
Based off of this by @cyncerity
He was lost. He didn't even know how they got separated. One minute Steve was right there and the next, gone. This wasn't good. Not only was it dangerous to get seperated in an unfamiliar house, Dustin had never been out by himself. Sure he knew the basics of foraging and first aid, but it took someone more knowledgeable to track a human's patterns and understand what could be taken without notice. He'd be fine for a few days but long term? He was screwed.
"Steve!" Dustin hisses out, unsure of how far his voice could travel. "Where'd you go? This isn't funny!"
He grumbles to himself, cursing all the time he'd begged his brother for more lessons, only to be put off.
"You'll learn when you're older, Dustin! You need more time, Dustin! I don't care if Mike knows more about humans than you, you're not ready!"
Most creatures were so big they created their own sounds. Footsteps as they stomped around, vibrations if they were more careful with their footing. Over the sound of his own mocking voice, Dustin misses the way the air vibrates just slightly.
"Shit…"
Later he'd be able to describe it perfectly. How he saw Eddie's fingers out the corner of his eye, how he had just enough time to straighten out before they closed in on him. The almost inaudible clink of his rings. But right now it was all a blur. Arms suddenly pinned to his sides as a hand longer than his body wraps around him from the chest down. No room to grab his pin, the bulky one Steve had given him after Dustin managed to knock him to the ground during training. The only evidence of his struggling are his feet kicking, his shoulders jerking, and the very end of his tail lashing about.
Only to freeze as he turned to face the human.
Wide brown eyes that he swears he can see his reflection in. A pale face framed by wild hair, reminding Dustin of the cat he and Steve saw that one time (his brother having to practically drag him away from getting a closer look). A small part of his mind makes the connection that since cats like to eat Littles, maybe cat-like humans did, too.
The helpful part supplies that that wasn't true. Humans don't eat Littles, they trap them in cages and poke them with things.
Okay, enough of that. What did Steve always say to do.
'Act wild. Don't talk, don't give them a reason to think you're smart. If they don't kill you on sight they'll think you're just an animal. They're always nicer to animals. Use that big head of yours and find a way to escape. But don't ever speak.'
"What the fuck are you?"
~~~~
He's not yelling. In fact, he's almost sure he barely breathed the words out. But the thing (mouse? guy?) still flinches. He's gone still, which Eddie is partially grateful for cuz it felt weird having something squirm in his hand.
Eddie tries very hard to ignore the fact that he can feel the little guy's heart racing.
His hand felt too loose, yet the feeling of fragile limbs against his palm kept him from tightening his grip. It was hard to tell how much of a mouse this creature was, but the longer he stared the more his initial shock wore off, and the more he admitted that this guy almost looked human.
"No, no, no" Eddie points a finger as the little guy gapes and pressed his lips into a thin line. "I know you can talk. I heard you." No verbal confirmation, but there's another flinch and he goes pale.
Squinting, Eddie brings his hand closer to his face, trying to ignore the feeling of that tiny heart beating faster. Under a homemade cap is a head of brown curls and pointy ears pinned back in fear. In the dim kitchen light he thinks he can make out full cheeks and a shirt that's been stitched back together multiple times.
Brown eyes meet blue, wide with realization.
"Oh. Oh shit, you're a kid."
Fingers unfolding, Eddie tilts his hand back to let the guy kid sit up, bringing his thumb down on his legs to stop him from backing up off his palm.
Which is how he ends up with a pin jammed into his thumb.
"Son of a-!" Voice high pitched with pain, Eddie jumps, tossing the offender on instinct. Immediately scrambling to catch him, sighing in relief and clutching the little body to his chest. Looking down and tugging to break Tiny's grip on his shirt when he tries to cling on. He's fully prepared to go off, but one look at the kid's face and he freezes. He's trying so hard to look intimidating but his lips are wobbling and Eddie swears he saw a tear fall. So he closes his eyes, making a low groaning noise in lieu of the colorful language that wants to bubble out.
'He's just a kid. Just a scared little kid.'
"Yeah, okay. I deserved that."
A glance around shows him a cluttered counter. Boxes, forgotten glasses of water, various containers and bottles of whiskey, all places he could lose Tiny should he bolt.
So 'no' on setting him down.
With a sigh, Eddie carefully closes his teeth on the pin and yanks his hand away. Spitting it in the general direction of the sink and sucking on his thumb while inspecting the kid for any more weapons.
Speaking of, the kid was squirming and pushing against his grip. Trying not to dwell on the fact that even with all his strength he can't even make a finger budge, Eddie opens a cabinet and grabs the tallest glass he can find, tilting it slightly so the kid slides into it rather than fall.
If it weren't for the panicked sounds he could almost laugh at the way the kid tries to hang onto his hand. Now that the sting of his injury has worn off, curiosity takes over again. He brings the glass closer, but the kid scrambles back so fast he hits his head so Eddie sets it down with a wince.
"Okay. Let's try this again," Eddie says as he leans an elbow on the counter and rests his chin on the heel of his hand, trying very hard not to loom over the kid. "Eddie, Eddie Munson. And you are?"
Other things in mind.
I was thinking about Luu Kah and his relationship with his brother, Gan Noo (who's two years older).
You could think that with neglectful parents, the brothers wouldn't show solidarity between themselves either? But they're in good terms. Maybe precisely because they didn't have enough support from their parents idk. xD
I think that as kids they did manage to have some fun time together in between the education/work/chores. Sometimes they were with other kids too but it never grew into solid relationships. When Gan Noo grew into a pre-teen, he started hanging out more often with two or three specific friends, whom he became closer to. That's also about the time when the bros felt the lack of love from their parents more than ever. So Luu Kah was miserable too and Gan Noo tried to make him spend some time with him and his friends, but Luu Kah felt out of place at this point and stayed alone during most of his free time.
It's around that time that he started stealing stuff (around 12 y/o), and that his relationship with Ramsey started too (they'd already seen each other bc the village is small enough but never hanged out together). The rest is what we know: Luu Kah steals something from Ramsey's shop and eventually gives it back bc Ramsey pissed him off lol; then Ramsey finds himself wanting to know him more and all that. They become sparring buddies and Luu Kah finally has something that makes him motivated somewhat, something to look forward to. Some light that lit up. Which doesn't mean he was 100% alone before since he had Gan Noo but he still felt empty and sad overall.
Anyway being buddies with Ramsey is the start of a new page in his life you know, even if slowly. Then there's also the fact that, the year after, Gan Noo becomes a caravanner. When he goes home later that year, he tells Luu Kah about his adventures and tells him it was crazy and awesome and all (even if dangerous lol). It's easy too when your life at home sucks. Gan Noo found enjoyment and growth in it, and Luu Kah was envious of that.
As for Ramsey, as a kid he hanged out with some other children (he must even have had some shared time with Gan Noo related to their education since they're born the same year —I imagine that most of the kids' education comes from the parents, but that for some subjects, a few common lessons are given by adults from the village). Ramsey had some kid buddies and all, and he wasn't in very good terms with Délia and Samuel, until he was 10 years. He started caring more about his siblings, and he was also in age of contributing to their education to some extent (Délia was 6 and Samuel... 1 lol). When Ramsey had free time, time just for himself after giving so much of it with his siblings and family, he neglected time with friends outside the house and turned to his books. He gave more time to his curiosity and thirst of knowledge. It went on like that for a while and when he was 14 he started hanging out with Luu Kah, as mentioned above. He was still very absorbed in his readings when he could, but he also reserved some time to spar and train with Luu Kah and found enjoyment in it. When he was about 16, he found himself thinking more and more about becoming a caravanner, because of learning things about the world on top of becoming stronger thanks to the time spent with Luu Kah.
The timing fits and they both think of becoming caravanners around the same time (Luu Kah tells Ramsey about Gan Noo's adventures too). They "enlist" to leave when they'll be 15 and 17.
I was thinking about it again bc while it may be obvious that Ramsey really helped Luu Kah being happier in his life, the reverse could be less blatant; Ramsey had loving parents and all the stuff he needed, all that. Still, Luu Kah brought some newfound motivation and interests to him too, and fun/enjoyable times, and a bit of socialization outside of the core family lol.
It may have been in different ways, but they both made each other's life better? And I love them and I never stop talking about them. ;A;
So many details from the past that don't have time/place to be brought up in the story itself. But hey c'est la vie.
Vampire AU again
How would Connor even end up being Perkins's decoy for luring Markus out? I know how (and I should probably mark this post with violence label)
During their past work together, Perkins once mentioned that the "poison" that turns you vampire has an antidote, and that he had to only use it once during his career. A strategically planted trap from his side that he put there month or even years ahead, just in case. He had probably already done it before – had desperate newly-converted, not yet fully transitioned vampires coming to him for help.
I imagine him first mentioning it like
"It's part of my job to help. As you can see, it's not all elimination, often times I'm here to prevent the widespread of this...disease. An ailment, really, if you treat it right and in time. It has been curable for years, and yet..."
He sighed and reclined on his seat.
"Vampirism is a choice. Those who refuse the remedy will face the consequences, simple as that. They know the rules, yet they still hope to become an exception, thinking they'll be able to outplay the world, become God. Really, they had it coming, they all had it coming for them the moment they decided not to seek treatment. It's their choice."
So fighting his own personal dislike towards Perkins, Connor knows that although they parted ways, he'll still get help from him in this case. It's part of his job, after all – he said it himself and was really proud and vocal about it. Connor has a bad feeling about the whole thing, but mostly because for Perkins it'll serve as a proof of his superiority. Coming to him for help is humiliating. He can almost hear his voice telling
"Look what happens to those who don't listen to their superiors and question their authority. I hope you've learned your lesson"
but he has only been feeling panic since he got bitten and it's not the right time to let his personal feelings stand in front of doing the right thing. For his own sake and for the sake of others. It feels like the race against time already as he's running a fever and has his whole body aching, screaming about rapid changes happening inside. He has already lost two days (not sure why tho, maybe I'll figure it out later) and hopes it's not too late.
So he swallows his pride and comes to Perkins.
And gets rewarded with a bullet.
"My job is to prevent the spread of vampirism, and what's better way to do that than destroy it at its root before it has a chance to spread any further?"
And then it clicks with Connor that he's not even the first one to fall for it.
"You lied to me."
"And it worked perfectly. The ends justify the means, Connor. Lie is just a tool."
The anger that fills him is overshadowing his despair, it gets stronger than fear, and when he realises that not only Perkins lied to god knows how many people before him, not only Connor managed to be so painfully naive, navive again, and not only is Perkins intending to kill him, he's going to use him as a bait. To kill Markus as well. This realisation blinds him with so much anger, it becomes stronger than pain.
He curses Perkins, promising to kill him, shaking from fury as despair and guilt tear their way out of him until he chokes on them and sob.
In response to the threats Perkins only smiles and tosses him a gun, then stands calmly in front of him as Connor find out that it's not loaded. Perkins then pulls out a few bullets from his pocket and throws them on the floor in a few metres from Connor, knowing that if he wants to reach them, he'd have to crawl to first get close enough. With that, he goes to take his waiting spot with his crossbow upstairs. Unless Connor magically follows him two stairways up, there's no way for him to hit him even armed.
-------------------
Markus will end up shooting the arrow into Perkins neck from his own crossbow after the chandelier (shot down by Connor) will fall right onto him as he steps under it, thinking that Markus is his only active opponent, forgetting that Connor exists at all, assuming he's dead or as good as dead.
@Flameleads [ X ] || There is a discussion of the Kings
Tumblr media
Eversti says - no Roy says he can trust him. Miss Riza is just the same. It's going to take some adjustment to stop calling him Eversti when he'd been so strict about it beforehand. He understands the idea behind it though. They can't be equals, if he's always addressing the man by proper rank and not by name, all the time. It's always been different with him because he's always had them address him by name - even if the name he gave them was really nothing more than a translation.
It counts though right? Maybe they'll get to the point one day that he gives them in his name in his native tongue but for now he doesn't think it necessary for them to have to deal with the mouthful that was Valkoinen Pilvi.
But this moves them into new territory because Ever - Roy says he's willing to help in any way possible, even if that means explaining Amestrian Alchemy or doing whatever he can. He just - refuses how to control the hellfire that Miss Riza's father created and honestly the Misterican Prince finds himself without a desire to learn such a thing anyway. It would have been more up Usva's alley and Brother already knew how to control his own hellfire.
If he were going to learn how to control the flames then he would much rather spend the time to attempt to master them through his Mist even if that meant he would have to deal with the recoils of when he inevitably messed it up due the mismatched nature of the required Mist's colors. This could have been avoided if Brother had not been so stubborn and just taught him himself but No, the elder Misterican had refused to teach his little brother anything of the sort while he was still alive.
He supposes that means both he and Evest - Roy have things to learn then, because if the man before him can control in his Mist in any facet he still wants to know how and why. He still needs to understand how this human managed to bring about his death even if he had been injured at the time and even if it was completely accidental.
So his hands are gripping at the mug within his grip for the moment, only to pause his thoughts for the time being and trade them out with the soothing sensation of a warm liquid coating his throat. He's had just about enough of breakdowns and panic attacks today. Both sides of the situation has had their emotions stirred around like a bubbling pot and the contents were just as rancid as Black Wind's cooking.
He knows the man says he'll do whatever it takes and he's willing to teach whatever he's able but what is he willing to learn? Being ready to learn about Wonderland is not being ready to learn about Mist and bluntly put he still doesn't know if this man can even channel such a thing being a being of soil at his core. Wouldn't that be a miracle? A being of Soil commanding Mist itself? He supposes he shouldn't be too surprised, he's already done it once. It could have been a fluke though, and he needs to know more.
What he needs is Cid to restore his mask to him, so he can get on with these lessons because not one person in the entirety of the Comodeen will let him go through with the little scheme that twisting around in that head of his without it. Cid might not let him do it at all and well what Black Wind doesn't know won't hurt him because he highly doubts his Other will be pleased if he tells him that he has full intention to recreate the scenario of his death in order to try to figure out how this Amestrian Soldier managed to activate his Mist.
It should have been impossible, unless there was something else at play. Could it have been with the way that Ev - Roy can manipulate the oxygen levels in the air? Even if it he can't actually control his Mist but he can do that - well that could prove to be quite problematic in battle if he can't keep track of how much of an explosive charge is behind the Mist he's allowed to seep into the air. It could create charges he has no control over or ones that he isn't prepared for and as Revon used to tell him while he was growing up -
'A Knight who cannot control their magic should never take the initiative to cast. An out of control spell can be twice as devasting as one cast by a Master of their craft but that is only because its wielder cannot bring its destruction to a halt.'
He might have trained in the ways of a knight when he was growing up but they practiced safety before all else. Mistericans still believed in Life over All after all, so that meant theirs too. There was no space for out of control spells or unruly behavior.
Tumblr media
"Ever - Roy - Forgive me, this is going to take some adjustment. Regardless, there is a matter I wish to discuss with you but I fear you are not going to give me a favorable response. I need to know how you commanded my Mist. It should have been impossible for one such as yourself to do so, and by that I do not mean human, but instead a being of Soil.
I think it's important that you understand the basic building blocks of the universe, and by that being Soil and Mist. Black Wind is what is known by both his people and mine as a Soil Mage. I am what is known as a Mist Mythic, meaning we both can command these elements to cast spells and summon beasts to our aid.
Black Wind's arsenal far exceeds my own, but that is merely due to the nature of Soil as a whole. Where as Mist is my breath, and it is born of me - Soil is the crystalized souls of the dead. The vast army Black Wind commands is created through the temporary resurrection of previous Windarians and other species alike.
All beings are made of one of these two elements at their core. All beings except for Chaos. I think you see why I would like you to understand these building blocks at this point. Fighting Chaos is not a 'fight fire with fire' situation. The only thing this will serve to accomplish is more fire and the destruction of everything around it, therefore only further feeding Chaos. "
He sighs and shifts taking a moment to take a long sip from the mug in his hands before he returns it to the table before him. His shoulders raise and drop as he readjusts his posture and sighs again.
Tumblr media
"I owe you both, a proper explanation. I only mentioned such a thing in passing to Miss Riza, not thinking about what was coming out of my mouth and in doing so I caused her much distress. I apologize. To you Ever- Roy I never not explained such a thing at all, and I owe it to you to explain just what the beast you're agreeing to do battle with is.
Chaos feeds on the negative emotions of living beings, but in my time observing it, I have come to learn that even attempting to suppress said emotions does little to prevent Chaos from getting what it wants. We are living beings and suppressing our emotions is impossible. I have come to learn that it is Chaos who should be punished and not the beings who are merely expressing themselves in the only way they know how.
While it is true that Chaos feeds on negative emotions, and it uses the power it creates from them to destroy - there's nothing we can do to prevent this cycle. The only thing I have found to do to strike back at Chaos in this function is to simply process my emotions and work through them so I don't continue to stew in my misery. I promise this when I say this, but there is nothing Chaos hates more than how strongly my heart loves.
So please don't try to shut your hearts down, simply due to the nature of our enemy. We just try to mend and repair strife wherever possible.
As for what I was speaking of before. One's soul is either comprised of Soil or Mist. There is no such thing as both as they are opposing energies. Soil is toxic to me, as I'm sure Mist can be quite damaging to Black Wind in ways we have yet to find out. Soil however, devours my mist and it burns my skin. So we have to be careful when we enter combat.
This is what I meant when I said Black Wind and I were inverted twin souls. A Commander of Soil and a Master of Mist. Aren't we quite a pair? Regardless, as a being of Soil, you should not have been able to have any agency over the command of my Mist. Mist is born of the being it comes from and only they can command it. So upon the return of my mask to me, I wish to recreate the conditions of my death.
I need to see exactly what you did in order to activate, and worry not - I will remain masked the entire time and with my hearing intact I will be able to contain the blast that should come from such an action with ease. You however have every right to refuse me. Still, if you can command my Mist at all, then I wish to teach you how to command it properly to avoid further incidents in the future. "
Something that I will never understand in this fandom is how you all fight tooth and nails to prove that the guys are almost perfect, have exactly 0,1 amount of negative personal traits and will never do anything wrong in their lives (and if they evee done then they learned the lesson, changed their mind 180 degrees). First and foremost, they are people. Ordinary people. Yes, hard working, yes, attractive and charismatic. But still people. Flesh and bones and physical needs. I've been an admirer of them since 2016 and during my obsessed era managed to watch EVERY their content since even before and from their debut. Every, every one of them has negative, unattractive, repulsive traits. I could list it all if needed. The idealization of them is insane. The idealization of them by the shippers is even more so.
Just like the fandom idealizes the guys to the max so do you, shippers, ultimately idealize your ship. Love to death, never seen before strongest love, absolute adoration between them, can never do anything wrong to each other, will never look towards another person, can never hurt each other in any way, intended or not, public image or personal, deep feelings. It's always a projection going on. The entertainment industry is basically built on projection. And the love that you claim jikook have is what YOU created, YOU believe they have. You created something that makes your heart flatter and days brighter and more tolerable and went along with it. Because in all honesty and objectivity you and i will never know what happens behind the scenes. Yes, they do have a great chemistry and a romantic fleur flying around them but, unfortunately, it really doesn't mean much. When 2 romantic, passionate, sensual, naturally flirty people meet each other and become closely acquainted, they just happen to radiate this energy. Speaking from many instances I've seen it in real life.
Could I be wrong? Totally. They could be banging each other and saying lovely words to each other. Could you be wrong? Of course. They could be passionately in love with some noncelebrity and we'd never know it. They could be going around courting someone else. Even if you believe they arE nOt LiKe ThIs, jK wOuLd nEvEr ReLeAsE gCfT jusT fOr tHeM tO bE fRiEnDs, hE'd nEvEr pLaY uS lIkE tHiS, you will never know them personally, you never know what goes in their head. Why you all feel so fucking entitled to their personal life, emotions and feelings? Why do you think you know what's in their head? Just recently A LOT of shippers and armys swore death that Jimin doesn't want solo activity, that he doubtly would do something solo but here we are, 7th of february.
tbh, for quite a long period jikook fandom was my safe zone, im a sucker for romance and a lovesick fool, sue me. Your idea of this couple and romance was just my brand and jikook being soft and caring did things to my poor heart. So i have spent some time going around, silently observing. And you know what? Jikookers are slowly becoming taekookers. Yay to the taekookification of jikookers! Maybe some of you all don't notice it but that's a fact. Theories and assumptions all day long, drama, tragedy and dumbassery. I literally saw postS about jk going here and there to spend time with th and others friends to hide his relationship with jm because they'll be gone to serve in the military soon. That's how bad it's become in some of yalls head.
but anyways, back to idealization. Yeah, you all idealize the shit outta this ship. You think jk and jm could never do anything wrong and bad to each other, do any harm, intentionally or unintentionally. Which erects a question. What is then about the rise of taekookers? I know you all gonna defend jk and th and tell that they are kind, they love jm wholeheartedly, tHeY wOuLd SpIt oN mE/bUrN tO kEeP jm WaRm, it's not their fault taekookers are deranged and unhinged, internet is not reality, jm is okay with it, in reality jm is very loved and nobody would ever try to hurt him, it's not jk and ths fault, they have every right to interact however they wan, what, should brothers/besties not interact anymore at all???? All of aforementioned, every single word would be right if you all said it in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and even 2020. Those years, you would be absolutely right if you replied to me that jk and th have every right to interact. But guess what, the world and the fandom changes. What simply was a ship war years ago is a serious deal now, with serious consequences that have a high probability to be destructive and damaging. People on the internet are real, they are not something that can be shrugged off. Accounts of twitter and yt are not just pictures with a bot behind them, their posts are not AI-generated bunch of random words, it's their mind, real thoughts. They log out of twittr and go shop for food with these thoughts going in their head, they go to work, interact with othrs, consult, service their clients and still have these thoughts in their head. Do you even know how many times my bts-fan friends had gone to fandom meetings and then told me there were hella lot of shippers and many of them claimed jimin to be a tkk homewrecker? Hint: every single time they went to a fandom meeting. Oftentimes there would be other slurs used against jm.
I know you all dont want to hear it and don't want to even consider it because of idealization but the guys do feed ships, do feed some fandom narratives, do some controversial things. And yes, recent taekook live is one of them, either people wanr to admit it or not. Even jikook had some moments to intentionally stirr up the crowd (the famous jimin sitting on jks laps on a concert moment). They are entertainers in the first place. It's their job to keep an audience engaged. But that's okay, that's not what bothers me. What bothers me is that you all fight tooth and nails to defend jikook. It's weird how you all claim jk to be a genius, an overly intelligent person (and i believe he probably is), smart and grown up man but turn a blind eye to the fact that his certain desicions do harm jimin's image and potentially his well-being. Jk has greatly graduated with a degree in media. I do believe he's a gentle soul and probably has a nice and kind personality, and is quite smart and creative. But he does involve himself in an activity that does nothing but feed the harmful type of delusion, the one that a potential to become dangerous for the person he claims to be someone he's close to. I myself am getting a degree in a field that involves media, mediaplay and pr and let me tell you, masses are quite easily moved, the mass narrative is changable and flexible. Celebrity like bts have a huge power over people and their minds. They literally can integrate any narrative they want and it wil be successfully integrated, soon or later. Jk literally has an almost flawless image and brand power. He is potentially able to say whatever he wants and people will be on his side. If he wanted, he could end shipping, soon or later, eventhougg there still will be a small percent or highly radicalized shippers. Again, any mass narrative is movable and changeable, ANY.
So here we have, a highly respected artist, with a great public image and brand power, who's claimed to be very smart, intelligent, who graduated with honors with a degree in media. This certain artist has a part in his fandom of people who spend their days and nights to make up theories. These part of the fandom keeps on trying to ruin the artist's bandmate's (close friend/brother/lover/whatever you consider them) image and brand (either you want it or not but public/brand image is important in the industry), and potentially has quite a high probability to be harmful to that bandmate's well-being. The artist doesn't adress the problem, the artist keeps getting himself involved in that deranged part of his fandom, thanks to the artists' decision makings the deranged part keeps thriving on, getting bolder and more vile.
Like, I'm not asking jk or th to say he has a girlfriend/boyfriend/partner, it's their personal life, for god's sake, nobody should ever have word in it. But god, it's not hard to openly and straightforwardly reply to one of the millions' of deranged comments and say that you are not romantically involved with any of your bandmates (which would start an anti-shipping movement in your fandom). There would be left a small percent of the most radical deranged breed, the proccess of purification would probably go slowly, but when an artist is stubborn and he really tries to change a narrative, he would eventually get what he wants.
It's not hard to say that you don't want to be shipped with someone, it's not hard to say that you are not in a relationship with your bandmates. I know, there will be people saying he doesn't have to do it, it's not their fault and he has nothing to do with shipping but man, taekookers have gone too far, have become too bold and harmful. You can't keep your silence forever when you are the center of this fucked up delusional harmful created love triangle and your words are valued by both sides. Can't keep silence at least from the ethical standpoint. Like, dude, your bandmate is literally being targetted here and there, how is it okay?
What a long essay. 😄
Do I think they are perfect? No.
Do I think they’ve never had any fight or difficult time? No. They definitely had.
I still think their relationship is extraordinary and their love is something else, because it’s obvious even from the small fraction of their lives we were able to see. I don’t wish for them to be more than friends. I see what they are trying to show us and I don’t ignore it.
BTS members don’t see everything we see. They know about the hate, but they don’t have to know about the amount and level of toxicity. We don’t know how much of this toxicity they’ve seen. They aren’t invested in it like we are. Like you said we don’t know what’s going on behind the closed door.
You should finally get the fact Jungkook isn’t responsible for that. Try to imagine yourself in his place. Would you calculate all your actions and words? He literally doesn’t have to come online and say ‘Me and V are only friends, get over it finally.’ If you hate him because you think he is obliged to do that, you are toxic. Who are you to judge him anyway? You aren’t one of the most famous people in the world. You have totally different life. You can’t even imagine how different everything is for them.
Just we would never agree on this. It’s not worthy for me to continue.
And don’t ever compare jkkrs to tkkrs. The difference is incomparable.
falling facades
[ Kai lives his life through a series of facades. Here's the first. ]
A/N: also child nya. we are at day three of summerofwhump and going steady, hold--
• • •
When Kai is eleven years old, his parents disappear.
He waits five, six, seven, hours, till the sun has retreated into the horizon, leaving the darkness to fall over the village walls.
He remembers the instructions he's learned through his life, so he makes dinner for Nya, settles her to bed, and then goes out to search.
Tales of bodies lying by ditches and dark alleys flick through his mind, and he does his best to avoid dark corners and flitting shadows. His voice grows hoarse from calling for his parents, and eventually all the lights from buildings dim away.
It's 4am before he comes stumbling home, palms and knees bloody from too many falls on the gravel sidewalk.
He's kneeling on the floor, desperately trying to stop the blood from dripping on the floor while he digs around the bathroom cabinet for the first aid kit. It's not quite that easy through, the crimson puddles spill on the floor, staining the white ceramic.
Kai's almost managed to pull out some bandages, biting back cries of pain, when the door swings open quietly, a small creak echoing through the house.
"You're bleeding." Nya comments, looking through the crack at him. Her blue eyes are wide from curiosity, and Kai lurches up from the floor, palms catching the sink. He can't stop a loud wince that escaped, and she pushes the rest of the doorway open, stumbling unsteadily into the bathroom.
"Nya!" Kai exclaims, and ducks his hands behinds his back, pasting on a smile. "Go back to sleep, okay?" Blood steadily drips to the ground behind his back, and he wonders if turning down those first aid lessons his school offered a while ago was really such a good idea.
"What happened?" she questions, rubbing a hand across sleepy eyes with a quiet yawn.
"...I tripped." Kai. says lamely, and Nya's expression instantly turns worried.
"I wanna help." She says, and Kai shakes his head quickly.
"You can't, Nya. It's really late-" He looks over at the small bathroom clock to check, and grimaces at the sight. "-It's four twenty six, Nya. Go sleep, okay? I'll be right there."
A lie. He wants to stay up at the dinner table waiting for his mother, maybe slip out of bed after she's fallen asleep again.
"Mama taught me how to take care of a cut las' week." She insists, jutting her lip out stubbornly, and Kai can't help but hold back a small laugh at her determined expression. He's seen that expression on both his sister's and mom's face enough times to know there's no conniving them otherwise now.
"I... Okay. Can you help me get out the bandages?" He points towards the bright box, and she nods, stumbling towards the box. She rummages around the it for a minute, but retrieves the bandages.
"You got it?" Kai smiles, and accepts the bright plasters thankfully. It's a long five minutes and he and Nya bicker over how to place them to cover enough of his hand, and he ends up with a complicated pattern of bandages across his palms, carefully administered by his seven year old sister.
"Are you okay?" She says, settling back on her heels with another yawn.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Kai gives a small sniff, trying to hide the tears welling his his eyes, and Nya's face blooms into a sleepy relieved smile. "Let's go sleep now, okay?"
Another lie. His hands hurts and he's tired and  he doesn't know what to know if his parents never come back.
"When is mama coming back? " She murmurs, and Kai picks her up gently, slinging her arm over his shoulder. "They'll be back soon. We just need to wait a little while, kay?'"
They'll be back, he promises himself. He just has to wait.
"You're warm," Nya mumbles faintly, raven locks falling over her eyes, and she snuggles into his shoulder.
"Yeah," he says, and pulls her a little closer. "It'll be fine. We just have to wait." He repeats it again, but this time maybe it's a bit more for himself than her.
The facade stays.
OFC gotta ask izuna for the headcanon ask, altho i’m also dying to hear what you have to say about kisame :0
I'm sure its obvious to everyone and their mother what I have to say about Izuna, so Kisame it is!!!
A lesson they learned in their childhood:
That the world won't care for his kind. They'll either fear or hate him, he'll either be a tool or hunted out of existence. All he can do is become strong enough that he's untouchable. (I like to hc that he had family, siblings, a community within his clan, but they were one of the bloodline clans nearly hunted out of existence. A good few managed to escape over the years and there was a bigger exodus later which he helped with when he defected)
A reason they have for getting out of bed each morning:
Madara's plan and the promise of a better world. But also Itachi and keeping him comfortable and safe once his illness and his eyes started getting worse and they started getting closer. He sees him and their work as the only steady presence in his entire world at that point, and he finds that he'd do anything to protect that and the weird little liar of a child he's found in his care
A fear:
That he's unredeemable and that he might completely lose sight of his humanity. That no matter how he reaches for the light hoping for it to touch him he'll just be dragged down to the deep, and all he'll know is all the blood on his hands. I don't think he actually likes killing, he certainly enjoys a good fight and a strong opponent but he takes no joy in killing. The first time he held a knife and killed an animal as a child he cried for an hour until his mother sat him down and slapped some 'sense' into him
A strength:
He's very perceptive and genuinely kind despite not being able to see it himself. Once after a night of drinking where Kisame tells him his fear Itachi tells him he has more humanity in him than most people he's ever met, he's already touching the light. Kisame nearly cries, and he swears his loyalty and devotion to Itachi right there, tells him he'll drag him up to the light with him if he has to, regardless of whether Itachi's given up on his own humanity
How they think others perceive them:
As a monster, that they don't see past his appearance or his reputation. And he's not wrong. And if not that then a weapon, he's not in denial about his role in the Akatsuki or as a shinobi in general. Though he has come to trust that Itachi cares about him in his own stunted but devoted way. In the way he lets him into his space and how he allows him to take care of him when he's ill, and doesn't take offense to being treated as a child when he stops for another tea break and Itachi orders a little more dango than he should, or when Kisame shields him from the worst of the things they do by insisting that he gets his hands dirty instead
How they perceive themselves:
As a monster and a weapon, as someone who's done irredeemable things but tries to do better. He eventually comes to see his own humanity though, and he sees himself as a friend, a life partner and an older brother of sorts to Itachi
Whether or not they consider themselves a ‘decent’ person:
He certainly wants to. And he's certainly more sensitive and kind than he'd ever realise. He doesn't though, certainly not by the time he's joined the Akatsuki, but sometimes he thinks he could be a decent person, and it's easy to believe when Itachi looks at him without a shred of fear
A temptation / proclivity they have:
He loves the thrill and danger of the fight too much to ever truly give up being a shinobi despite not enjoying everything else that comes with it. He also gets far too comfortable with what's familiar to actively seek change by chasing the things he actually wants, and he's also too much of a follower, he'll almost always put the plans and wishes of others before his own
An alternate career to what they have in canon (if applicable):
He likes to think about moving somewhere peaceful, maybe near the sea and opening up a tea shop or an inn with Itachi, or living like a civilian, good honest physical labour. Modern AU tho he would definitely put everything he has into becoming a marine biologist, specifically working with sharks, he's all about saving the sharks and rightly so😂 But he'd most likely be doing a minimum wage job (poor foster kid kisame truthism!!)
How they waste time:
He likes to read and no one can convince me otherwise. Time on the road can be long and tedious so he'll read almost anything he can get his hands on, and he'll also read to Itachi when his eye sight gets bad enough. He can do different voices and he gets really dramatic and into it. Modern AU, he'd also be really into movies amd musicals in particular, the campier the better. He knows all the words to Rocky Horror and he'll put on a one man show any time he's given the chance😂 It drives Itachi a little insane but he never interrupts him and he has recordings of multiple of these performances
Preface to Friendship as a Force Multiplier
I was watching a video with my wives about important lessons for being a professional in our industry and I found myself getting really frustrated when the topic of skills came up. I find myself getting frustrated a lot when people talk about important skills in jobs, hobbies, families, content creation, etc. So often people seem to focus on technical skills, they'll then add something about the importance of organization and/or project management skills, maybe make a mention of people/communication/marketing skills, but people seem to shy away from one of the most important set of skills in my opinion: Intra-personal skills.
How am I supposed to get any cool and important things done if I don't know how I do things or if I don't know how to take care of myself to ensure that I'm healthy and available enough to do said things? Where's health as a skill in these talks? Where's boundary setting, time management, flow awareness, pressure response, reasonable accommodations, and nurturing self-talk in these discussions about what's important in our lives and work? So often people shy away from talking about our struggles or thinking about the struggles other people may be facing and we call them "personal problems". It's like there's this base assumption that you're not ready to listen to the talks which "tell you everything you need to know about being an x professional/creator/expert" if you don't know how to show up everyday and just churn out work. As someone with disorders which impair my executive functions I feel like these talks must be for robots. Someone without any sort of executive dysfunction might call me lazy. Neither of those labels is particularly useful.
I realized that, in spite of all of my complaining, I do actually have a bunch of knowledge in this space. I've done a lot of research, I've had great mentors, and I have people who love, support, and encourage me to organize and share my experiences and learnings. If you were following along with my rant and want to know what I've translated from the "robots" (lovely neurotypical people) and high functioning neurodivergents in my life then I hope my linked post will help you. Friendship as a Force Multiplier is about how we can help others achieve their goals and is a language that we can use to ask for help when we're struggling with our execution ability (getting shit done). I hope one day that I can tackle some of the other problems I mentioned above.
I initially wanted this post to be both a rant and the main post but the rant got too long and I won't do the recipe blogger thing. There's no good reason for me to make you read an entire story every time that you want to remember how to bake my gluten and dairy free cheesecake. I mean: share with your loved ones how they can help you get shit done.
