HI!!! i know you said now and it's been a few hours but we'll put it up to time zones. anyway, i was thinking about this ask and ultimately it's that quote from dan in that interview, right? "best friends, arch enemies, husbands, business partners, partners in crime, soul mates, just mates, who the fuck knows?"

obviously it's antagonistic, but on spongebob's part, it's unintentional (my knowledge is rusty, and i'm not fully caught up on spongebob, though i've seen a few squidbob moments from more recent eps) and when he does hurt squidward, he genuinely feels bad about it – when he picks up on it, at least. but, like, when squidward says spongebob has hurt his feelings or when it's really obvious, spongebob takes accountability and tries to right his wrong(s). even if that means making the situation worse, lol

AT THE SAME TIME, yes, squidward can really hurt spongebob and even enjoys seeing him hurt, but he understands when things have gone too far, and it seems to me like he doesn't just want to be in spongebob's good books for the sake of his reputation. take "fools in april" for example: squidward really hurts spongebob with his "prank" and it's a very public prank where people make clear their disapproval of his actions. of course, no one wants to be seen as the huge asshole, and squidward even says "it hurts, doesn't it?" to plankton when plankton becomes the most hated thing in bikini bottom. BUT when squidward apologises to spongebob, while he struggles, it's clear he wants to (he just physically can't) and he doesn't know everyone else is at spongebob's house. he genuinely just wants spongebob to like him again. (plus, he finds it humiliating when it's revealed other people are there – clearly, it's not about reputation)

the other obvious one is "dying for pie" where he puts spongebob's life in danger and realises he doesn't want to be responsible for spongebob's death nor does he really want spongebob to die at all.

it's also insanely cute to me that he's, like, as far as i know, the only one who calls spongebob "sponge" – i don't think i've heard any other character refer to spongebob like that . . . except maybe patrick? but i might be confusing it with a – you guessed it – squidbob scene.

also the way squidward's voice goes all soft when he calls "spongebob sponge" :') and how he's protective of spongebob too. like in "pizza delivery", when the customer is rude to spongebob and spongebob sobs, we can infer squidward KNOCKED THE GUY OUT!!!!! and he went back over to spongebob and reassured him that the customer was happy with the order and everything was ok :)

squidward also gets flustered when spongebob compliments him and spongebob likes it when squidward is having fun. i think deep down, they both genuinely care for each other, and they both want the other to be happy, they just have different ideas of happiness and aren't sure how to get them to align. there's really great potential there, and i personally love relationships like theirs where it's just so fucked and they're more prone for divorce but they keep remarrying anyway

sorry for this mostly focussing on squidward . . . spongebob is a bit more complicated to me bc he's a mix of childish and mature and you're never entirely sure when which facet will be more prominent. ultimately though i think they have the potential to balance each other out but still have a good time together (as in, they won't settle right into "BORED old married couple"). when i have more thoughts on spongebob's side of the relationship, i will let you know o7

i know this spawned from the "to be loved is to be changed" post tags, but for squidbob's part i feel i was mostly joking or i probably made a tblitbc comment while watching spongebob with my irl and i've forgotten why, LOL – let me think on it some more and let me watch more of the show, and i'll get back to you on that. :)

I used to have a big hyperfixation about a certain ship (SquidBob) that I TOTALLY didn't make a presentation about their dynamic/relationship with each other.

Ahem- in any other reasons, this ship changed my life FOREVER. As in like EVER AT ALL. I made like 20+ comics in traditional with 200 pages with my ugly ass artstyle. And in Digital with 23 separate comics and maybe about 80+ pages? Im not quite sure.

I published 20 stories (OLD FICS) that were about the ship and 2 stories (18 if separate) as two different ships

It was fun staying. I loved staying there until it got a bit toxic from my space in a personal issue.

But I'm good now ^^ just don't draw alot of it nowadays.

Writing Update ✍️

Well, what a busy summer it's already been! Know I've been active here and there, but tbh, life has been crazy - both in good and in bad ways.

I still find solace in writing no matter what, so just wanted to post a tiny update about what I'm presently working on and what I want to work on eventually 🤗📖

Very subject to change but I'm excited!

Current project:

Squarepants family fic

I'm currently working on a fic (mentioned here) that involves the Squarepants family. 🧽👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What started out as a plot bunny has evolved into something much bigger, which (unfortunately) means it's been taking me a bit more time than expected.

Additionally, with all the lore and headcanons I'm including, this fic is becoming slightly longer than I originally thought. It was going to be ~6 chapters but I'm thinking it might go up to 7-8.

Hoping to share some teasers by the end of this month, but we shall see.

SquidBob is the main pairing. 🧽🐙

Fortune teller/soulmate fic

Yes! This is still happening, I swear it!

I've already shared quite a bit about this fic, but deets are here and here. There will be more teasers when I have more figured out + written/edited.

TLM AU fic

I've definitely said somewhere that I don't usually write/read full-blown AUs (i.e., not canon divergence), but I'm about to do something I never thought I'd do and try my hand at writing an AU fic. 🙌

As with many AUs in SBSP, it will involve humanization. However, it will also involve non-anthro critters that maintain cartoonish attributes (ex. Finding Nemo, Lion King [animated], etc).

Setting is probably ~1800's in a seaside kindgom/village. It won't be super accurate but I'm here to entertain, not educate - unless the opportunity presents itself in a fun way. 🤯

It isn't going to be the timeliest either lol, but it was somewhat inspired by this. 👀🧜‍♀️

I haven't even started drafting this, so no ETA yet.

To the surprise of no one, SquidBob is the main pairing. 😊

Werewolf lesbians fic

I haven't posted much original content for Sims, but I'm a total Simmer and I'd love to do more Sims storytelling at some point. Fun fact: my username was actually inspired by the Tragic Clown from the games. 🤡

The Sims 4 Werewolves did a great job on the lore so I've had this idea to write a story (maybe with screenshots?) based on that with my own made-up lore sprinkled in. 🐺There would obviously be a romance aspect because I'm a sucker for it and there's this "Fated Mates" feature that I just have to include. 💏

BARBIE MOVIE 2023 x SpongeBob

This is just probably one of my AUs that doesn't have a Squidbob which is more focused on 'which-who-what' decisions Spongebob would choose to himself.

If the Barbie in that movie is a "Stereotypical barbie"

Then the model in this au /or a Spongebob in this au is "Care-Free Pants" that makes him act more like he's free with whatever decision he chooses and have lots of fun. No restrictions like dresscodes when it comes to be choosing "girl dresses" when there says "boy clothes"

I really do enjoy making more of how Spongebob chooses on wearing feminime clothing sometimes because thats what Spongebob is. And it's a part of him.

The 'Ken' in this Spongebob AU doesn't exist and it's more of being in with a Bff side aka Patrick Star

Where he tries to prove himself that he's more worth of a bff than the rest of the other characters.

And maybe did make Sandy as one of those 'torn apart' design. Which is probably might be a fit for her because some people say 'sandy is a land mammal and she doesn't belong under the sea'

That came up with my idea on putting her role into having this.

I never really consider it, but Squidbob is like the blueprint for those "grumpy x sunshine" ships.

Anyway, do you think we'll be getting another Volume of RWBY from the RT crew anytime soon? I can't recall but this feels like a pretty long hiatus without any word of the next volume being greenlit.

It might be from my own view point but it seems like the surprising cultural hold RWBY has had over the years is growing weaker. That can be from a number of factors but I think the biggest one would probably just be a loss in interest. But this is, again, biased due to having my own opinions.

I don't think RWBY is going to be canceled or anything, but I wonder if RT is the right place for the IP at the stage it is now. I have no knowledge about the inner workings of the team so I'm just speculating openly.

Never watched spongebob, so can't really say. But maybe that's why I've never been super into the grumpy/sunshine ships. Depending on variety. Def not of the sponge and squid type.

But nah, I don't think we're getting one Soon. Eventually, probably, but not Soon. It is a weirdly long time to go without news but, since it hasn't been said its Cancelled i'm assuming we'll get something eventually on them working on it.

And yeah I do think RWBY's impact weakened. It started dropping really after v3 (lots of people left) and kept going down since then. The long hiatus between 8 and 9 really hurt it though. The time let a lot of people settle down, and with many not caring for v8 much, that time let them just decide not to watch.

I will say you're right about rwby's impact being surprising. A show like it with (originally) a super thin team making the impact it did was weird. If it does return it's probably for the better it thinned. Lot of the attention it got was hate.

Dunno anything about RT's workings, except their PR was always poor imo. But they won't let rwby go easy. It was, probably still is, their biggest IP. For now though, as you said, all we can do is speculate.
