I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how far Wille and Simon have come during these two seasons of Young Royals. It makes you want to re-watch all those little moments that began it all between them, right? Especially since Wille had to work so hard to break through Simon’s guard in the battleground of their school and earn his trust that he wasn’t just another one of the a-holes about to humiliate him at any second.
One of my most treasured, subtle moments that I always look forward to seeing in S1 is when you see the process of Wille actually becoming a sanctuary for Simon at school despite the walls Simon built around himself.
That feeling is shown so cleverly and heartwarmingly in the scene where Wille joins the rowing ream for their early morning fitness sessions (albeit late XD) and Simon’s whole demeanour visibly brightens the moment he sees Wille has joined them. IT GETS ME EMOSH EVERY TIME.
Before Wille joins them, we get to watch with him out his window at the team gathering, and it is there that we witness the perfect snapshot of the utter hell Simon goes through every day at that school. You see all the boys collectively ignoring Simon and ostracising him (from first years to seniors). And what rankles is that you can see it isn’t from Simon’s lack of trying -- he actively tries to engage with them and join the circle of bodies but they treat him like he is invisible.
Tumblr media
It would be so humiliating and so deeply lonely to be put in that situation time and time again -- and this is just one morning of many! At the end of this new humiliation, you can see the resigned look on Simon’s face as he has to once again choke it all down and bring his armour out to emotionally survive another day of his school peers signalling to him that he is worthless -- not worth saying hello to, not worth talking to, not worth even acknowledging.
And here is the awful truth -- that shit is traumatising, no matter how strong you think you are being in the face of it! Simon is an incredibly strong, grounded, independent boy with a good support network at home, but he has to endure this bullying every day alone amongst the boys. He may be able to scoff at their behaviour in his head because he is far more emotionally intelligent, but the fact of the matter is that when you have to endure constant slights every day like that, it can absolutely erode your self-confidence and slowly condition your subconscious into reconsidering that maybe there is something fundamentally unlikable about you after all. Repetition is a powerful force.
Simon has only been in that environment at Hillerska for a month or two, but it would still be affecting him on some level because how could it not? The only real safe space for him at school is with his sister (and probably choir and the music room).
Until he meets Wille.
And this is why I love this scene so much! Because you truly get to witness how much Wille’s presence  starts to give Simon peace even at this early stage of their friendship. Because there Simon is, jogging in a group that doesn’t want him there, exerting mental energy into keeping his armour up so he doesn’t have to feel how shit it makes him feel, when out of nowhere he hears a cheerful “Hi!” from beside him and it is Wille.
The way Simon’s whole face lights up when he realises he is no longer alone in the group because Wille is there (insert all the crush feelings), gets me evvvvvvvery time. Simon’s face is actual sunshine!
Tumblr media
(^ Apologies to Prince Wilhelm for these unflattering screenshots of him, but the smile he brings out of Simon is the real flattering thing here, sir!)
You can totally understand why Simon’s face turns into sunshine at the sight and sound of Wille being there though -- Wille is the first person that morning to acknowledge his existence, and above that, sound genuinely happy for the chance to hang out with him during training. Talk about suddenly feeling like a human being again! And feeling much safer in the presence of a known ally. (And then of course add in that Simon is already crushing on Wille by this point). No wonder Simon can’t stop smiling.
Then of course, the training continues on and we get to see all of Simon’s surreptitious stares at Wille who no doubt looks so cute to him in Struggletown (coz even princes can’t do planking exercises without sweating and groaning like a muppet). You can see how much Simon is enjoying just being around Wille during training. He looks like he is actually having fun at school for one of the very rare occasions outside of choir practice. And since Wille is right there opposite him in the grind, you can tell that Wille has spent every chance he had to claim his space beside Simon, and gosh that must feel so awesome for Simon considering he started the morning with no one acknowledging his existence or wanting him there.
Tumblr media
We are witnessing such pure friendship here, and it hurts from how good it feeeeeeels.
Having this new friendship/sanctuary at school for the times when he is away from his sister must have made getting off the bus at school so much more bearable for Simon, you know? It’s no wonder Simon was crushing on Wille so hard by episode two. And I reallllllly, really love that about their dynamic -- how from the beginning they found a bit of peace in each other in a school that they struggle emotionally to be at. And it just keeps on growing from there. T_T <3
Okay, my emotions have been satisfactorily spilled. Thank you for the indulgence. XD

so uh, why didn't orin just kill durge? she had the opportunity, and it would've absolutely been the correct thing to do to a competitor spawn, given her ambitions. why give them the chance to live and go on killing and perhaps earn their father's favor once more, while risking to fall out of favor herself for leaving a victim *alive*?
obviously a plot hole, if you ask me, but maybe you can come up with a watsonian explanation
Bhaal wants ritual combat and during a Durge playthrough Sceleritas may flat out tell you that you are being tested. He wants Durge alive and to undergo these trials.
Orin also doesn't just want them dead, she wants the religious combat trial so that she can prove herself more worthy of Bhaal than them in view of the entire church the "proper way" (for lack of a better word), but Durge kept refusing her. So she bashes in their brain aiming to scramble it and tadpoles them, expecting them to crawl their way back, disgraced and forced to fight to regain their place (Bhaal will guide them back to their destiny, and as a godspawn they should be perfectly capable of surviving anything between them and her even with their brain stitching itself back together)
I would hazard a guess that Orin prayed for the chance to prove herself - consciously or subconsciously - and Bhaal came to her (presumably in vision form) and gave her these instructions to follow with the promise of giving her her chance.
Durge was crafted directly by Bhaal as his self-insert to destroy the world. Orin - "the other one" as Bhaal likes to call her (more reasons to stab him) - was born to be sacrificed to him by Durge when they claim their place as Bhaal's Chosen and proxy upon Toril. Durge isn't allowed to lose, Orin was born to. Bhaal doesn't want a "mere grandchild" with "diluted blood" like Orin. If Durge loses once then Bhaal resurrects them (he doesn't do this for Orin) if they lose again then Bhaal will let the party kill her and resurrect Durge and subject them to the worst ending (where he puppets them directly sort of like he did his mortal avatars in the Time of Troubles.) If Durge is dead then whoever takes their place will kill Orin and that's the end of it. Bhaal can resurrect her too, but he's not going to.
This is his plan to test whether he did a good enough job crafting and shaping the Dark Urge or if he needs to scrap Plan B and move onto Plan C; Orin is his puppet facilitating it.
I would assume in a non-Durge playthrough that they don't survive either her or Kressa, and she shrugs and drags their corpse back as a trophy. I have no idea whether her diary talking about the tadpole plan is still there if you're doing a non-Durge run. The question of why Bhaal doesn't resurrect Durge in this case I am going to consign to the plot hole called "we wanted eight potential protagonists". Trying to make sense of that one is a losing battle, I think.

Rinne is clingy.
“Rinne suddenly realizes she loves Houtaro! There’s no buildup!” seems like the main reason a lot of people dislike the current arc of Gotchard.
Okay, but take it back a second. Rinne is established to be an outsider amongst her peers. She focused on school and alchemy, and nothing else. Her relationship with her father became strained when he was revealed to have “betrayed” the alchemists’ union (thanks Gereyon). She can’t say anything, because she’s just a child against the masked whoevers in charge of the union. Rinne is the child of a traitor, and now she feels personally betrayed by her father. Because she can’t speak against the union, she bottles up her feelings, and thus, she becomes very cynical and aloof.
Rinne cannot let herself trust anyone, else she might get betrayed again.
Even in the alchemist academy, where she has Sabimaru and Renge (and Spanner, I guess), she doesn’t make a connection with them. She does her own business, they do theirs.
Then enters Houtaro. He quickly becomes a recurring presence in her life after joining the alchemist academy, and slowly manages to break down her barriers. He flips everything she’s perceived about friends and relationships on her head. Suddenly, she’s made a connection. Through Houtaro, she makes connections to the rest of the academy. Rinne becomes friends with Renge and Sabimaru, and the Chemies as well. She goes out to eat with Renge. She becomes comfortable enough with Houtaro (and Kajiki?) to show off her love of spooky things, a side that the old her would have likely hidden. She’s growing up. She may get annoyed with them, but they’re the first friends she’s made in a while, if ever. And Houtaro is the one who helped her build those bridges, supporting her, and she supports him right back. Rinne is happier than she’s ever been, now with friends and purpose in her life.
Aside from her father, Houtaro is her greatest connection and her best friend.
At the same time, however, Rinne is subconsciously relying on Houtaro to be an emotional support for herself. Even if she believes in him, she doesn’t fully believe in herself, even after gaining the power to become Majade. Rinne looks to Houtaro to reaffirm his belief in her and support for her; if he doesn’t do that, she doubts herself. And with Tsukumo suddenly taking up all of Houtaro’s attention, she’s not receiving that affirmation. Her first/best friend and largest connection is being cut off by someone else, and seems to have replaced her.
Subconsciously, Rinne is clingy. Mostly towards Houtaro, but also towards the rest of the squad. She feels like she, and socially awkward introvert, belongs with a group of friends.
She’s maybe a bit jealous, but now, she’s anxious that her connection to Houtaro is diminishing because of his childhood friend who literally came out of nowhere and inserted herself back into his life. And now that subconscious clinginess has become more prominent.
And now she’s doubting herself again.
If Rinne can’t be supported by Houtaro, or if she can’t support Houtaro, does her presence matter with Tsukumo around? Everyone, from Kajiki to Tamami, seems to gel well with Tsukumo hovering around Houtaro, trying to grab his attention with her big ol’ doe eyes. Suddenly she’s become the outsider again. Rinne isn’t questioning if she loves Houtaro, she’s questioning herself and her self-worth.
And Tsukumo, if unintentional, feeds into that doubt. Her declaration to be able to go after Houtaro without any worries feeds Rinne’s self-doubt.
And Atropos is really, really, REALLY, good at fueling that doubt even further.
What if Houtaro starts doubting her? What if her entire friend group suddenly doubts her? Suddenly she’s in her father’s shoes. Is she going to be branded a traitor as well?
(Okay, maybe that’s a stretch)
Houtaro is pure of heart and dumb of ass, so it’s unlikely he’ll turn on her. He’s able to recognize that she was hurting in episode 14, can see the good in humans and Chemies alike, and also seems to be better at socializing… save for recognizing when Tsukumo is flirting with him.
But the worry is still planted. Maybe that’s why Minato tells her to fight as herself in the preview? So she can believe in herself? Rinne has relied on Houtaro to help her believe in herself, but the what-if of if he doesn’t has been provoked.
The main writer of Gotchard is Hasegawa, who graciously gifted us with Yomogi and Yume from SSSS.DYNAZENON, a show that also featured a relationship between two high schoolers. The buildup between Yomogi and Yume versus Houtaro and Rinne is similar: two teenagers learning to support one another. What differs is that Yomogi and Yume are both emotionally scarred by their past, and they learn how to heal and bond as a result, while Rinne is relying of Houtaro to support her as she heals. Houtaro doesn’t seem to carry any kind of emotional baggage going into forming a connection with Rinne, aside from a missing father, so he’s not needing reassurance of himself. He needs reassurance from everyone equally to bring out Gotchard’s full strength. It’s doubtful he would recognize that he’s been christened as Rinne’s emotional support extrovert.

I would like to read more Blue Lock boys with lolita s/o. It is so great. Maybe Shidou, Hiori, Reo, Yukimiya, Nagi?
Reo would definitely spoil you and buy you all of the expensive brands from Japan like Angelic Pretty.
OMG YES. I loved writing those sm!! Feel free to request more for this!!! As an irl lolita it makes me happy!!
Blue Lock boys with a lolita best friend/ s/o! (part 2)
Part 1 (Barou, Rin, Bachira, Aryu, Tokimitsu)
Like part 1, these are written with platonic intention but can also be seen as romantic!
Requests open! - masterlist
Tags: gn!lolita!reader, fluff, this is a pure self insert BUT UHM.... anyways
Shidou likes to tease you by talking to you in a baby voice and says things like how you're "too cute" to do something so he can do it for you instead. Usually, he's so loud and even violent to people, but being around you makes him a lot calmer and softer. But if you're out in public and someone says something negative about you, Shidou immediately yells at them and even threatens violence.
Hiori isn't that vocal about it, but he always feels warm on the inside when he sees you in your pretty clothes. Sometimes when you sit next to each other, his hands subconsciously wander to the pretty sleeves of your dress and he fidgets a little with them. You never say anything about it, but you always think it's cute.
Reo ADORES you. He loves seeing you in all sorts of different clothes and dresses and always gets excited when you have a new one to show him. Because of that, he also LOVES to spoil you with new clothes and accessories, especially expensive ones you couldn't afford by yourself. Your favourite dress is a custom made one that Reo got for your birthday.
Yukimiya INSISTED to take you along to one of his modeling jobs. He thinks you're so pretty and your personality fits the way you dress. To him, it's something that needs to be shown to the world. He got so excited when he found out he gets to do a photoshoot together with you! It's his favourite out of all he's ever done.
Nagi always wonders how you have the energy to wear something so "complicated." But he's not there to complain about it. He thinks you look like a pretty doll and he can barely take his eyes off of you if you're around. The way you dress gives him some sort of urge to put more effort into his outfits as well, but he never gives in to that because he's too lazy.

Armchair Psychology Anon here (not a real psych just see patterns)
I've been lurking around in that Discord server and just read the ask about how Stolas is Viv. How she pays a lot of money to see Broadway stars then keeps getting closer and closer to them. How she wants to take them away and talk to them about "her books" (her ideas and projects)
Perhaps Stolas as a child is actually her most vulnerable thoughts and feelings about herself. A lonely, sad rich kid who didn't have many or any, true friends outside of her relatives.
That... that might be true. Even if Viv is writing that subconsciously, what does Stolas say to keep Blitz around the first time?
"The one who wants me, is my first ever friend!"
Remember how I speculated that Viv is incapable of maintaining real friendships with people? That she has to lovebomb them over and over until she doesn't have to keep trying anymore?
It's actually really sad the deeper you dig into the shows psyche.
I've also been watching more interviews with Brandon, and Blitz is basically Brandon. (Seeing Stars literally just confirms Blitz is an impsona of himself). He also says "Imps are the lowest of the low but he's really trying to make something out of himself." Which Brandon said he relates to a lot (See his Class Acts poster).
Brandon also looks a lot happier at this anime con they're at right now because... could it be because Vivs not around?
If Stolas is Viv's self insert (especially since she goes out of her way to like tweets saying Blitz is the one who could've stopped at any time, and Stolas is the victim), and there's jokes about her having dick envy, as well as her blatant fetishisizing of gay male relationships...
Chai, I really think Blitz x Stolas is her way of Brandon x Viv.
It's possible she also sees herself as Ozzie, and guess who plays Fizz? As well as Adam, and Pen?
(Less evidence for that, but Ozzie is also rich and powerful).
I know she knows Brandon is gay. Obviously. But... she created a rich, sad, powerful male character to be hopelessly in love with someone who clearly is uncomfortable with him. And they obivously butted heads about it. Brandon certainly seemed uncomfortable at the anime panel where she was saying, "They'd make a cute couple..."
And maybe she's not attracted to Brandon necessarily, but obviously maybe wants to be a man in a gay relationship. But she is transphobic of transmen, so she'll never become what she hates.
I dunno Chai, it just keeps getting weirder and weirder the deeper you go....
I also think the lovebombing of Blake as of late is really creepy too. Especially the "cum" comment.
It feels like a grooming tactic. Older adults saying and slipping little "jokes" here and there to make the victim used to it... not mention the song is about "choking and dying of poison" at the hands of Angel's abusive rapist pimp.
Viv... she's very troubled. I feel very bad for Blake and Brandon as of late.
Michael and Ashley and others really dodged a bullet. Goose seems to be keeping Viv at a distance as well. I'm sure Goose knows everything M&A went through and it's a delicate situation for sure.
Armchair Psychology Anon, know that I'd happily watch a 12 hour, muti-part series centered around your Viv analyses. I really would.

Human Pomni Was Evil? (TADC Theory)
Keep in mind this is a theory and is absolutely open to be totally wrong.
We know the Digital Circus characters, minus Caine, we’re once human and not from here.
And there might be a good chance the new characters shown in the recent trailer are also A.I. The reason I make this assumption is because some of them are similar in style and theming whereas the tent crew is unique from each other. And Jax asked Caine in the episode if Pomni was one of his NPCs.
Why would he ask that if every NPC looked the same and were all the mannequins? If that was the case he’d instantly recognize Pomni was a new character. But no. He had to ask the question.
Does that mean these new characters are one off? Probably not. I do think they’re gonna be important. But this might be the aspect that separates them from our main six.
But that’s not what I’m here to talk about and suggest an idea of.
What kind of people were these characters before the circus?
They have no memories. For we all know, they could’ve been completely different people in the real world than we see them as in the circus.
The sweet motherly Ragatha could’ve been a wicked stepmother or something.
The bully Jax could’ve been the victim of bullying in the real world.
The erratic and fragile Kinger could’ve been a mindful therapist.
The shy, anxious Pomni who seems all innocent and naive in the circus could’ve been a truly malicious evil being or a full on criminal.
Especially that last one is an interesting idea that came in my mind.
One of my biggest theories so far is that Pomni’s human self worked at C&A. Makes sense right? A lot of people have said this. She pauses at a desk as though she recognizes it and has a mental break as a reaction to it.
Just because you don’t remember anything consciously doesn’t mean your subconscious loses that memory entirely, especially if it sees something triggering.
But did she help make the game? Honestly, idk. She could very well not have.
Either way, what if C&A itself is a very shady company?
The ringmaster of the game, the main AI, is Caine.
C
What if this AI is a self insert by the game developer?
Here’s what I think happened, in my theory mind:
The real Caine, not the AI but the creator that made Caine as a self insert, tried to design the Digital Circus in the 1990s (the tech’s quality in the office) as a revolutionary innovation in gaming. So some employees back then became test subjects for it. One of them being Kinger. Cause he was here the longest according to the show. (So they didn’t all show up at once)
But it went horribly wrong, the test subjects are lost in the game forever, and the creator is wanted and charged for the losses.
But he got away and continued his operation, illegally distributing the game to anyone naive enough to not know what scams are. Thus making him a full on criminal with other criminals as his employees developing the game to perfect it. To make it the perfect escape from reality.
Also explains why their tech would have never been updated.
Fast forward to this keep going on till 2023. Which means we could safely assume human Pomni wasn’t even born yet when the disaster happened.
If she was an employee, she was also one of these shady people who knew exactly the harm they were doing, but did it anyway because selfish money and profit.
Especially if, say, Pomni was raised into this criminal setting her entire life.
Maybe she’s the creator’s daughter who had too much to drink with a co-worker one night. Idk.
That would probably be an interesting explanation for why Caine is often going to her for advertising purposes. (Other than her being the MC) Obviously Caine isn’t Pomni’s dad. But Caine being the AI self insert of the dad of human Pomni. Would make him a more familial figure.
Especially since I don’t think Caine himself is evil. He’s just being an AI and doing his job and trying to ensure the safety of the residents of the circus.
Human Pomni could’ve been born and raised into the shady life and became an employee when she was old enough and had the training. Making her be a helper on the circus.
“Well that doesn’t mean human Pomni was evil. She could’ve been different.”
I Doubt it. When you’re born in a life, you’re heavily influenced by that life. If you were born and raised in an evil nation, you will likely have the mindset of that evil nation because that’s how you were nurtured to see the world. You wouldn’t know anything else.
Plus that mental break Pomni had.
Tumblr media
This could very well be the real Pomni slipping through.
She isn’t this shy sweet bean. She’s actually an evil maniac.
But how did she end up in the game if she knew what it did?
There’s multiple ways.
As punishment for doing something wrong in the company.
It was a sudoku-cide to get out of the real world.
She wanted to fix the mistakes the company made for some reason.
But does that mean her digital self has to be evil too? From the story this is based on ‘I have no mouth and I must scream’. Probably not. Maybe she’s actually the savior like Jesus or something. Idk.
I expect this theory to be completely wrong and contradicted when Episode 2 comes out.

do you think some rwby characters have been unfortunately unitentionally turned to mary sues/gary stus
Jaune. Jaune. Jaune.
Perfectly describes Jaune and I don't even know if unintentionally.
We started with an okay set-up - a screw up with all the wrong ideas about "being heroic" and all the insecurities about his masculinity learning to be his own person and learning to express himself is actually a pretty strong starter premise for a character. But at some point that turned into "a burdened man learning to be the HERO through SUFFERING and DYING WOMEN as everyone gets to understand his PAIN and how much he DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS"
The writers kind of...forgot that he isn't the protagonist and just a side-character? And then kind of gave him ALL the screentime and ALL the plotlines and ALL the importance.
SOMEHOW Jaune feels like both a self-insert OC, Author's Pet AND yet somehow also blank slate at the same time.
As far as Fanfic OC aspect goes, Narrative will ALWAYS find an excuse of just WHY Jaune should absolutely be involved in something. It's almost like plot can't be allowed to progress with him. There's a "slight"(understatement) change in how he is written after the first three Volumes in that the narrative intent is to frame him as the inspiring one, the heroic one, the one that comes up with various ideas and the one that is the "heart" of the story. Ironically that's also pretty common with fanfic OC self-inserts being added, as the first thing a person usually does is to try to find a reason on just why the character matters and why the character sticks with the "cool kids(original protagonists)". Maybe the protagonists have an issue, but the OC is there to come up with a solution?! Maybe the OC had a very sad past that he shares with the protagonists showing how much the whole situation thematically is about him too?! Maybe the OC has a History with one of enemies that makes them motivated to defeat them (so what if often the fanfic OC's "history/motivations" ends up overlapping with actual story protagonist's reasons to want to fight the said antagonist) - pretty often involving a dead LI. Suddenly its the OC who is having this journey while the protagonists of the story are along for the ride and are affected by his growth and actions.
As far as Author's Pet goes, the narrative will ALWAYS self-congratulate itself on Jaune's growth and progress and how much of a bigger-person he is in spite of all his Flaws(tm) and in spite of how much he "didn't ask for this". Let's say it again, but bit more bluntly - In a story where the main message just now was that trauma and flaws don't matter and the protagonist is flawless and psychological trauma isn't real, the narrative will STILL self-congratulate itself over Jaune's growth over...his flaws and trauma?! There's pretty clear-cut subconscious element to the character writing too as Jaune is the inexperienced youngster who is thrust into the role of leadership and is reluctantly leading the narrative forward, in spite of everyone (especially villains!) telling him of how he is not a hero and how this is a hard path to walk. He is overwhelmed by the responsibility but perseveres through all the loss and tragedy to inspire others and all other characters recognize his growth and note how much stronger and mature he is now and how he's wise now. Even if we ignore the absolutely clear-cut (un)intentional metaphor of "just two inexperienced white guys writing this huuuuge show" as Miles would likely put it, There's an intent behind the narrative to try to make him likeable. In fact there's more intent in trying to make JAUNE likeable than literally any other character in the story including the ACTUAL protagonists. The narrative DESPERATELY wants the audience to see him as the "heart of the story". The story by all means shouldn't be about Jaune or relating to Jaune or telling us how Jaune feels but the narrative absolutely bends over backwards to make it so. Which gets ESPECIALLY ridiculous when the writers try to find a reason to put Jaune together with the PROTAGONISTS in their Filler Character Development Goof Dimension.
Which leads to the blank slate part, because since narrative is trying extra hard to make the audience relate to Jaune's "just a normal guy" status, intentionally or unintentionally, the character does fit the "audience self insert" idea too - Jaune is written as non-descript enough for the audience to self-insert into him ( and the show actually manages to make him MORE non-descript in terms of appearance somehow), he is surrounded by all these larger than life characters (most of them women) telling him how much he has grown and travelling with him. Even villains(most of them women) focus on him and he gets to save others and tell others how much its all about him and his emotions and struggle. Sure there's trauma (that's fine because people inserting can just ignore it, like they always do), but there's also no lasting negative consequences for his actions so the audience doesn't feel bad about relating to him too much. Sure the premise started with him having flaws but "he changed" and there's no real effort to examine the consequences or meaning behind his actions or character tropes. If one didn't say the name of the actual show, the whole set up would be pretty close to a cheap light novel premise.
The sad part is I genuinely couldn't tell you if all of that is the writers of MilesWBY being THAT self-indulgent intentionally or if parts of it are just an unintentional result of bad writing.

damn ok malleus
yes. i am back. and i am gonna not shut up about the last main story update but specifically about the mixed opinions on Malleus' actions.
There's been interesting sides I've seen, both on Twitter and Discord. You have the Malleus stans, mostly the Malleyuu stans, who feel very conflicted about Yuu not being "included" in the dream worlds that Malleus sent the boys to. Then there's the other Malleus stans who are like "lol those Malleyuu stans were in absolute delulu for thinking Malleus would treat Yuu so specially". Thennnn you have some fans who would start discussions about that discourse just to insert their Malleus dislike opinions, where at that point I wished I said pls take that shit out of the topic 🤡
And for me? Well, after a week, I am now sitting here all like . what dafaq
No because there’s something I don’t get and it’s the thing I want to address first: how Malleus' UM works and the whole 'Yuu isn't in the dreams'. You all can correct me on this since I've only been relying on TL summaries and the little context clues I can glean from listening to the main story. From my understanding of how his UM works, Malleus can put people to sleep and put them in their own dream worlds. He can watch these dream worlds since he's the one who has the magic to put these people to sleep.
But he isn't the one conjuring up said dream worlds.
Malleus sent Idia to sleep, but he's not the one creating the scenario where Ortho is still alive and studying in RSA. That's a dream world created not from Malleus' magic but from Idia's inner desires, his inner subconscious. And we are just seeing that his dream world is a world where his brother is alive and happy.
If we are to assume that Malleus created that dream world for Idia, that would mean that he would have known Idia's backstory and grief for Ortho. But like, he doesn't.
Suffice to say then that since Idia's dream is centered around his subconscious, of course Yuu won't be in the dream. To him, Yuu isn't that important in his life. This extends to Grim. While Grim is a cute kitty, ultimately he isn't that important to Idia either, enough that he'd be part of his dream.
And that's why none of the dreams we see so far have Yuu in them. I don't really think it's Malleus excluding them, it's that the other boys don't really find them important enough in their lives to have a spot in their dreams. Sounds harsh, but it is true, especially since this is strictly main story we are talking about. No events being included whatsoever, barely any personal stories being included either (Robe Idia personal being the notable exception as it was actually featured in main story).
Now the second important thing that I don't really have to address but want to really talk about: Malleus' actions. A lot of people find themselves at a point of contention with this. Again, you have a good amount of Malleyuu fans who ended up in their divorce era lmfao. Then there were people who don't necessarily stan him but still felt displeased by his actions.
I don't really have an issue with people not liking what he's doing or acting. I'm not the biggest fan of Malleus either, and people who have either followed me for a while or regularly talk to me on Discord will know this. But what I have an issue with is that it feels like there's been a lack of willingness to understand where Malleus' actions come from. I will acknowledge, I used to not want to understand him, but after some self reflecting and talking to the right people, I can see the dude in a better light than before. The poor guy's been judged pretty badly, maybe not as bad as the judgment that Vil and Leona got, but the shift in opinion and the little willingness to understand him is . welp. kinda lolz. Especially when this has been built up for a while.
People have mentioned already that Halloween 2 shows Malleus' selfishness, and I agree with this sentiment. He sent people to the ghost's dimension, thinking that everyone would be happy. But consequently, while the ghosts are happy, the students are upset at what he and Lilia did. And for good reason! Some of them were possessed, and the others had to save them, which meant getting into fights. It was a dangerous situation to throw them in, especially when they were somewhere else.
Halloween 2 is a perfect example of Malleus doing things thinking that everyone would be happy. But really, it only makes himself happy, and he doesn't see or understand the perspective of others.
Malleus' dorm card and story was also released pretty early on in chapter 7's story for a reason as well. His story shows that selfish side of him, on a much more mundane scale, which is bringing all dorm leaders to Diasomnia for a dorm leader meeting, thinking that it would satisfy everyone. But they were upset of course, because without consent, they were just teleported like that. And that's a pretty scary situation to be taken away unexpectedly.
In short, Malleus' selfishness has always been a part of him. People can have their criticisms and dislike it, just as how you would dislike something in a person. But you can't deny that it is a part of Malleus, just as how him finding value in forgotten things like old architecture and gargoyles is a part of him.
And then you apply this to Chapter 7 where Malleus puts everyone to sleep so that Lilia wouldn't leave. It can and does leave a bad taste that Malleus is putting an entire island to sleep for 1000 years just for one guy to not leave. It’s also maddening that he can watch everyone’s dreams especially when they’re going to be so personal. The show of power, the disregard for others, it can be irritating to people, and if it wasn’t for the fact that it meant getting to know the rest of Diasomnia more, I’d hate it too lol
But personally speaking, I see where the dude’s coming from. Loneliness is a bitch, and it's worsened by the fact that his reputation drives people away. It's no secret either that Malleus' grandma is very busy to the point that there were some dinners with him that she had to cancel last minute due to work. Malleus' parents are dead. And the rest of Briar Valley would treat him with utmost respect and nothing more. So of course he'd cling onto the few things and people in life that make him feel less lonely. It's why he has fondness for Silver and Sebek. It's why he's so interested in people like Yuu and Grim who aren't afraid of him. It's why he values architecture that's been long forgotten.
Lilia of course has been the most influential to him. He's been with him for majority of his life. He's taken care of Malleus, he's kept him company. And for Lilia to suddenly leave and possibly to never be seen again. I think that would be absolutely crushing for Malleus. It's all the trauma and hurt and war flashbacks (that can unfortunately be literal) coming to bite him.
All the powers of the world in his hands, and he cannot gain his happy ending. Poor man.
In short, loneliness really hurts. I also say this personally speaking. When Chapter 7 came out, I was really struggling with loneliness, so it kinda made me empathize with Malleus.
It's also worth noting that Malleus doesn't act entirely on his own feelings. He hears from others their own feedback and feelings and will do something. One of his motivations in doing what he's doing was seeing Silver's and Sebek's reactions. When the two of them reacted to the news, Malleus was the one who told them to accept Lilia's decisions, even if he himself was probably the most hurt by them. Malleus saw Silver cry about it.
It's definitely something ingrained in him as crown prince: that he would have to hear out a problem and come up with a solution. Not that he’s good at it (because interpersonal matters apparently didn’t matter that much to his teachers /hj.) But he does it because he’s taught to. And because he's so powerful, people will look to him to solve the problem. You really see this in Glorious Masquerade, especially when Idia, Azul, and Malleus went up the tower. Idia would be like, "Let Malleus take out the flowers!!" but Azul would use his magic to take them out. In hindsight, when Malleus complimented Azul for his ability, I now wonder if part of it was not just awe for such magical ability but also admiration that someone didn't just rely on Malleus, but stepped up to do something and succeeded in helping out.
There’s really a lot to Malleus right now that’s causing him to do these things. And hey, it’s just like with every other OB that we’ve encountered. Trauma that has hurt them since childhood affects the things that they do in the present, and either the trauma itself or their present actions will bite them back in the ass.
I don’t know anymore man, I’m literally like supposed to be the last person to defend Malleus 🤠 but there’s just some brainworms in the head that I want to let out because damn….. it sucks to see how too much devotion to a fanon version has caused this split and conflict and simultaneously see people who really dislike Malleus take the opportunity to dunk on him without really having substance and understanding in their arguments.

a post for when you feel exhausted of manifesting+ a tip for it.
i know we've all been there; you just wake up, and feel like absolute shit. your self concept is shit, your don't really wanna affirm, and persisting just becomes a thousand times harder.
and even though many people may say persisting is key, i think we need to acknowldge the fact that we just can't persist all the time. we're humans, we're bound to feel sad and unmotivated sometimes.
and if you ever feel like this, please know it's fine to feel like this and that it's natural.
and it is during these times that we really think all that persisting and affirming we did till that point was a big fat waste of time.
but now we get to the point of this blog-- was it really a waste of time?
well, maybe if you just tweak your mindset a little with the method I'm bouta tell you, then your progress won't be affected (and you can be sad in peace and not force yourself to keep affirming and persisting)😼😼
and yes, this is somewhat similar to my safeguard affirmation post (i have no idea how to add hyperlinks here but if you scroll a bit on my blog you can find it) since this also revolves around protecting your manifestation progress, but the method is different.
now for the method:
first, imagine your manifesting journey as a game.
now think, what's a component most games have?
(insert awkward silence as i wait for your reply)
THAT'S RIGHT, A PAUSE BUTTON.
(feeling like dora the explorer fr)
so basically, all you gotta do now is add a pause button mod to your game (aka your manifesting journey).
so whenever you feel like not affirming and living in the end and all that, just tell yourself you're "pausing the game"
now, you can create your own rules for what happens when you "pause" the game.
for example you can say:
when i pause my game, all the progress I've made till then will be saved.
(basically implies that the positive effect of your past affirmations, persisting and the positive effect of your methods won't be ruined and will remain unaffected.)
when i pause the game, any and all things i say or do which contrast my desires automatically become immaterial.
when i pause the game, my subconscious will still continue manifesting all my desires.
if, by any means, i say something in favour of my desire while i paused the game, my subconscious/the universe will take that affirmation/action alone and manifest it.
even when i pause my game, an automatic loop of postive affirmations of my desires will keep going to my subconscious/the universe. (basically kinda like a background program that keeps running even if you pause the game)
and so on.
andd that concludes this postt
hope it's helpful :)
and as always,
happy manifesting :))

idk how else to describe this like i think the kind of traditionalist/hyperliteral read of buffy not catching feelings for spike until late s5/s6 just misses the level of iron grip buffy keeps on her feelings. apropos of nothing other than seeing this read one too many times and im not up on my buffy meta scholarship so forgive me if im making the same points everyone and their mother has been making for the past two decades
keeping tight control over her feelings is not something buffy started doing after a certain point, it's a behavior she has coming into the pilot bc we see that at that point there's already a level of emotional distance between her and joyce (not only re the slayer stuff and the later retconned-in betrayal & invalidation trauma from being thrown in an institution when she tried to tell her parents the truth, but also for instance the intensity of buffy's distress over the divorce). she already has a home life consisting of not voicing most of her difficult and 'close to the chest' emotions. when she tries to be genuine in a way that asks for space for her frustration or anger or more 'selfish' feelings, this is often not met with understanding (worth mentioning that giles does a MUCH better job on this than joyce for the most part, but other characters including willow and xander respond poorly a substantial number of times). as a result she is well practiced at suppressing emotions that are too inconvenient or complicated to feel acceptable to verbalize, so she tends to just kind of whistle past things that feel hard to tackle until she reaches a point where she can no longer bear to ignore them. this is a core part of her canon characterization that is also visible at many points in buffy's relationship with angel (s3 comes to mind, when she spends a good chunk of the season operating under the convenient belief that they're in a functional platonic friendship when she subconsciously knows they are still too hung up on each other for that to be feasible). so like we know this is something buffy does. it is not at all unusual for her to feel things that she keeps beneath her conscious awareness + does not allow herself to process and admit to having felt until well after the fact.
this takes me to the oft cited point that from the first time she interacts with spike, there is a different vibe happening than is typical for buffy and vamps. it just feels very obvious to me that from basically minute one (or maybe more accurately from their first fight, when she isn't so much on the back foot) she registers him on some level as a person who happens to be really interesting and hot, but has a fairly easy time of it keeping this feeling out of her conscious awareness bc 1) he's also an unsouled vamp, meaning she can choose to dismiss his personhood as nonexistent and his personality as mere performance or game-playing (ie he is not a 'real' person, therefore the relationship need not be acknowledged as 'real' either – taken to extremes in s6 when she has to actively abuse him and continually reaffirm his lack of humanity and lack of worth in order to sustain the self-told belief that she doesnt see or experience his personhood and doesnt feel a human connection with him), 2) they're mortal enemies, 3) he likes to be really annoying on purpose + as a vampire also has a baseline level of generally acting like a bit of a creep, and 4) for much of their relationship she has other romantic objects on whom she can more acceptably focus her attention (insert reference to spuffy being a queer coded relationship here).
i think this state of noticing-slash-not-noticing persists from 2.03 through s3&4 and into season 5. by then she is so good at studiously ignoring how weird and flirtatious and intense their dynamic has always been that the revelation that spike is now acting very obviously like hes in love with her, to the extent that someone else could notice, takes her totally by surprise. getting more specific idk how else one could possibly explain how her ass was acting in something blue pre-spell, like i absolutely canNOT see buffy behaving like that around any other vamp literally ever. they were both being so unceasingly annoying with their creepy little flirty back and forth that both giles and willow were completely over it and just wanted them to shut up and stop paying so much attention to each other. ig the point im getting at is i think it's weird and dont get it when ppl seem to read buffy's character as if shes basically just saying the things she feels and vice versa rather than like regularly and even habitually lying to herself, bc i just don't think that's in line with the character that we're shown. buffy SAYS for a very long time that she doesnt care about spike and basically says and does everything possible to deny that she has any attachment to him at all, but frankly i think the level of aggression and frequency with which she expresses variations on that sentiment in and of itself gives the lie to that idea. anyways i think she was down bad pretty much immediately and just took a very long time to let herself notice

Reading that post gave me flashbacks to this ongoing RP blog that characterized Nagito as a memey caricature and had Hajime act as a self-insert for the writer to vent their contempt for the character. It did eventually tone down the Nagito bashing, since the aim of the story was healing for everybody. And I guess the writer had enough self-awareness to realize they'd look like massive fucking hypocrite to keep endorsing that shit. But man it was exhausting. I distinctly recall they lambasted the OVA for Nagito being a "karma houdini".
It was always makes me laugh when Nagito and the OVA gets cited as one of the most unforgivable things about the anime. His characterization in Despair Arc is arguably one of the LEAST butchered of Class 77-B. People just singled him out because they couldn't wrap their heads around the idea that he's multifaceted and generally doesn't go around trying to start murders outside of a killing game. And the OVA is one of the few parts of the anime besides stuff like Natsumi's expansion that actually added some more character depth. The implication that deep down Nagito has always subconsciously hated what talent has done to the world of Danganronpa and to his life adds a whole extra layer of tragedy to the character.
Maybe I'm reaching a bit. But I feel like there's a strong overlap between Hinanami shippers and people who downplay loads of canon evidence that Hajime cares about Nagito, and vice versa. Like you said in your post, it's not even a matter of being pro-Komahina. I still like to play around with other ships (Hinatsumi, Komaegi, Komazumi, etc.) from time to time. It's simply a matter of acknowledging that they give a damn about each other, regardless if that's romantic, platonic, or whatever.

Thanks for adding something to the conversation.
I genuinely make no idea what blog are you talking about. You don't need to mention which one it is, I'm not participating in the fandom outside of making KomaHina/KamuKoma content.
In my opinion, Danganronpa 3 is actually the worst part of the Danganronpa franchise. It turned AI into a human and ignored entirely the strong bond Hinata and Komaeda formed in the game (do they know that you can have bonds outside of romance?) They turned Komaeda into some criminal and created some plot holes like in the case of Twilight Syndrome Murder Case (who played SDR2 should notice the errors that anime created). OVA is closer to the games than DR3 because, unlike the anime, it was written by Kodaka himself.
I noticed it, too, that people who ship it have tendencies to ignore a good part of canon for the sake of their ship and "ha ha, KomaHina isn't canon". Excuse me, their ship isn't canon either because there are no canon ships in Danganronpa (+ Nanami is dead so it can't become canon).

Do you have plans with writting NQK as non-binary in the future?
Short answer: No. Not the way most people seem to want, anyway.
Long answer: Not explicitly, and definitely not using Western terms.
There are many Doylist Reasons for this.
Since the fic is set in 1990s era Japan, the term "non-binary" isn't in use in Lucky Child's setting. The word just wasn't in use in that place or time. The modern Japanese term is "x-gender," but that won't be in use for a while yet in NQK's world (like the early 2000s).
Pronouns work differently in Japanese than they do in English, so requesting they/them pronouns or the term "non-binary" doesn't make sense for NQK.
I didn't come out as non-binary until the story was like 75% completed. Inserting a "coming-out narrative" into the story would take up time and space in a narrative that was not constructed to support one. I would have to completely shoe-horn it into the story, changing my intentions for the very important, carefully crafted final act. It would bloat an already crowded narrative with something the narrative doesn't need to deliver on all the promises it set up in previous chapters. Inserting a coming-out story so late in the game would not make for good storytelling.
There are also Watsonian Reasons.
There are hints of NQK's dissatisfaction with gender throughout the story. From challenging Minato's treatment of them to Botan's observations of NQK's wardrobe, it's easy to pinpoint moments where evidence of their shirking of gender norms shines through. (The signs of my eventual coming-out are very obvious to me in retrospect.)
But while the signs are there, NQK is a very busy person who has a lot on their plate. Preventing the end of the world, being embroiled in a plot involving gods and goddesses, maintaining canon... they have a lot on their mind. And honestly? Their gender is the last thing on it. They are too freakin' busy to pay it any mind right now. In a few years, maybe. But right now, they're too distracted to care much.
Frankly, if anyone asked Keiko what their gender was at this point the story, they would look at them and awkwardly laugh, perplexed. They would feel uncomfortable, and they would begrudgingly likely say they were a girl, and then they would try not to think about it because the answer made them anxious for reasons they couldn't quite articulate. But that's as far as things would go right now, and they would make no declarations of import. Not right now, anyway.
Circling back to a Doylist perspective, NQK's continued "pursuit of self" can be read as an allegory for a gender coming-out story. They are constantly trying to find and assert their independent identity apart from the one assigned to them at birth (the identity of "Yukimura Keiko"). It's very easy to find this allegory within the text considering my own gender, and it's one I suspect I subconsciously inserted prior to coming out.
Compounding all of that, I started writing this story before I came out. The version of me who exists in the story is based on the version of me who existed before I came out. My real self and my fictional avatar have grown in different ways and in different directions. To quote Robert Frost, "two roads diverged in a yellow wood," and NQK and I can each only take one of those roads at a time. I set her path at the start of her story, and I don't intend to pull her down a different one so late in the narrative.
I took one road. NQK took another. Perhaps down the line we will travel the same path again, and perhaps that path will bear the name "non-binary," but for now, we explore different avenues of the gender world.
Tumblr media
So, to sum up?
NQK's pronouns right now are she/they, and while I consider them non-binary, they are not quite there yet in terms of their own thinking.
My pronouns, meanwhile, are firmly they/them, and my label is likewise firmly "non-binary."

Man I lowkey miss my old Sonic OC who was basically me when I was a kid. She was technically one of my first self inserts. I subconsciously added some elements to my current Sonic S/I’s design that resemble her.
Maybe I’ll draw her again, for old times sake. :’)

neurodivergence awareness people online will say shit like “having [insert neurodivergence] isn’t an excuse for being a bad person, i have [neurodivergence] and i’m not like this !!” and then you find out being a bad person to them is just like having one singular symptom. if theyre really good advocates /s, maybe its one intense [PT: intense. End PT.] symptom. that’s it.
for the record im not saying you can do bad things just cuz you’re neurodivergent, im saying there is no bad people and the subconscious fear of discovering they’re a ‘bad person’ keeps people away from self-introspection and ultimately, self-improvement, and that the idea that something you can’t change about yourself makes you a ‘bad person’ will indeed lead people to believe they don’t have a choice but to do bad things, and thus to not change.

Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe Gidget ends up subconsciously styling their current appearance after the games they play/have played... like those were a way for them to express their identity in a way they couldn't otherwise and what was in-game eventually reflected onto their current appearance. I also am a huge fan of the widely experienced 'trans person discovers game they played a long time ago, boots it back up and sees that the player character looks just like how they do today' phenomenon that is just pure gender euphoria so that factors a bit into this headcanon sadjsdajdiod
that would be really sweet 😭💕
admittedly whenever i make chars in games with character creators the last thing i want to do is make someone who looks vaguely like myself. i think i just don't like self-insert style very much and would rather make an OC that's not based on me at all. so growing up i would always just make various guy OCs when i'd play games. i had one i used for a long time called "curtail" i'd make in almost every game i played and always tried to give him the same look, but he didn't look anything like me lakdjfa but i still found it incredibly freeing and self-affirming to be able to make someone not limited to my own self and instead could be whoever i wanted to be (even before i realized why...)

YOU SELF SHIP WITH AN AARDMAN CHARACTER THATS THE BEST I LOVE IT FOR YOU please don’t mind me while I go and scream
I do!!! I grew up watching a lot of Wallace and Gromit and recently saw chicken run for the first time last December, instantly fell in love with the movie. It's so charming and clever and I adored all its themes around community and fighting for a better life. I started subconsciously making a self insert for it bc of how much I adored it and thought "hm... I wonder who I would ship them with?" Obviously you don't HAVE to ship with someone to self insert, but I thought I'd try it to see if any of them stuck. First I tried thinking of Rocky but I wasn't really feeling him, he was too much of a playboy type (guess I'm really not into those lol), then thought maybe Fowler but realized I see him as more of a silly father/grandpa figure, then I had the thought "what about Mac" and she just stuck for me! She was smart, caring, and I loved how her glasses made her eyes look really cute and big (she's cute with them off too of course <3). I gravitate towards geeky characters a lot, and I can't believe I didn't think of her first. Plus, I love her accent lol.
