Field Trip
Today’s Prompt: Field Trip
Pairing: Damian and Maps
Word Count: 2391
A/N Another chapter up for Ultimate Power Couple Collection!!! Enjoy (A/N at the end)
Damian stared outside the window biting back a growl as his classmates sing to Pretty Girl beside him. He was on the verge of just jumping out the window.
"I can swear, I can joke, I say what's on my mind.." started Maps dramatically swaying her hips.
"If I drink, if I smoke, I keep up with the guys. And you see me holding up my middle finger to the world..." Next was, Olive singing, actually holding up her middle finger.
"Fuck your ribbons and your pearls 'Cause I'm not just a pretty girl'..." Then there was Colton in their little trio and was terribly off key too, everyone dancing and laughing like a bunch of 3rd grade children at an amusement park.
At the next stop he was definitely getting off this ridiculous bus.
Heading home and demanding that he be transferred out of this prison they call a school. He dodged Maps elbow to the face scooting as far away from her as possible. He sighed he'll have to endure this for another 2 hours.
The sound of Maps laughter filled his ears as she was talking to Olive about something, she was smiling so brightly. Well of course she was as she put it, "Field trips are basically an open invitation to explore for mysteries during school hours, how much better can it get?"
Damian didn't have the same attitude, obviously. They all just came from the Museum of Art, to do some sight seeing downtown Gotham, just to end things at the camp site. Yes, a camping trip.
"What's with the pout there Mr. Grumpy Pants?" Maps poked his cheek teasing him a little, he swatted her hand aimlessly. "Don't call me that."
Maps shrugged and sat back down next to the said boy. "I would be a little concern with the way your acting but I tend to forget your not a normal boy." She giggled and patted his hair. He glared out the window. He made no such move to stop her due to finally seeing the camp site.
"Finally we're here." Shouted Maps almost jumping out of her seat. She pressed her face to the window squishing Damian in-between the two. "Maps I swear on everything I own if you don't stop acting like a child I'll skin you alive."
She scoffed at him, "You would have done it a long time ago if that was true." He growled shoving her off of him.
"Alright kids I want you to grab your partners sitting next to you and your belongings and stand in an orderly line." Damian toned the woman out grabbing his duffel bag from under their seat before checking his phone, no signal, figures. Shoving his phone back in his bag he followed everyone off the bus to the open wilderness.
"Wow it feels great out here." Said Olive standing next to Kyle. "Yeah, plants and animals so great." He cringing at the sight of a misquote flying by. "Hey at lest we're not doing school work I'd take this any day." Colton took in a gulp of air before releasing it.
"I'm shocked you were even eligible to join since you were suspended last week." Said Olive skeptical, "Hey! I've got my ways." He said.
"Hey guys look! there 's the cabins." Pointed Maps, as she began jogging towards the teacher to ask a few questions about the sleeping arrangements and the freedom to explore the woods. Colton shuffled over to Damian secretly.
"Hey! Wayne boy, now's your chance to make your move." Damian gave him a harsh look .
"What are you going on about, Rivera?" Colton sighed fixating his sunglasses.
"I mean making your move on Maps idiot, what else?" Damian's face burned with embarrassment. He started making his attempt to escape this conversation. Until Colton draped his arm around his shoulder preventing him from escaping.
"Come on man, we all know you guys have feeling for each other why else would you have came on this trip, huh?"
"Against my will."
"Or maybe, your trying to impress a certain mysteries loving girl we all know and love." He winked at him all Damian could do was roll his eyes.
"Far from it actually."
"Oh, really so if I had made a move on her you wouldn't care?"
"Not in the slightest." Colton shrugged with a smirk plastered on his face, "Suit yourself man." He gave him a hard pat on his back but Damian was unmoved by it. He knew what his game was and he will not participate in his absurd act. Those thoughts were immediately cast to the wind as he saw Colton wrap his arm around Maps' waist. Damian scowled hard, getting dangerously close to reaching for his favorite katana in his duffel bag.
Colton looked back proud at Damian's death glare and Maps' confused face. "This is gonna be great." Later that day everyone got situated in their cabins and gathered sticks and leaves for their camp fire.
"I cant wait! were going to roast marshmallows and tell ghost stories sadly I couldn't convince Mrs. Marshall to let us go exploring on our own but maybe if we get lucky, she'll change her mind." Maps happily said filling up her pile of twigs.
"Yeah right that old crow won't even let us stay up past 9, what makes you think she'll let us go off exploring." Said Olive.
"That hasn't stopped us before." Maps winked at her friends before she could collect more twigs she noticed a certain boy in the background leaning against a thick tree. He seemed uninterested as usual but he looked distressed. She was about to make her way over to him until someone grabbed her wrist.
"Colton?! what's up bud?"
"Hey Maps old chum I need your help I have this bad ache in my neck can you, help me out?" She smiled "Of course." She keeled down and began massaging Colton's neck and back.
"Oh that's the spot thanks man, I really owe you." Maps was about to replied back with a 'no problem that's what friends are for' until she felt a chill go down her spine it felt like someone was giving her a cold glare to the back of her head. A low growl made its self known to the group.
"Did you guys hear that?" Stated Kyle as he backed up protectively towards Olive.
"It sounded like an animal, we should head back to the camp with everyone else."
"Oh, Olive our voice of reason, I don't think we have anything to worry about." Said Colton as he stood up to help Maps up as well. "And whys that?" Asked Maps.
"Well..." He looked over to the murderous boy smirking. This is way too easy, its not even a challenge anymore.
"Children its time to head back now." Shouted Mrs. Marshall, Maps groaned in protest.
As they made their way back to the camping grounds. Damian followed behind sullenly he was in no mode to participate in their juvenile activities, he honestly wish wasn't even here to begin with.
But deep down he knew why he was here.
He sighed stopping in his tracks making no effort in following the group back any further. He needed to get his mind off of things and think about what Rivera had said about him having feelings for... Maps.
"Why am I even wasting my time, its not like its true...?"
At The Camp
"Hey guys I've got the smores ready." Shouted Maps as she plopped down on the log placing her melted marshmallow in her mouth enjoying the feel of it on her tongue. "Mmm so good."
"Right, I haven't had these in a while." Said Kyle
"Mrs.Marshall said we'll be exploring tomorrow morning, but as a class. It won't be as exciting, but it'll still be fun to get out there and explore." Said Maps as she started roasting her second marshmallow.
"Yeah, too bad the Wayne boy is missing out on all the fun." Said Colton stuffing his face, that had caught Maps attention. Where is Damian?
He was right behind them, Maps looked around hoping to spot him just skulking on the sideline but he was nowhere in sight. Did he go exploring off without her?
"Hey guys you won't mind if I got look for Dami right?" Kyle looked at her crazy before saying.
"Are you crazy absolutely no-" Colton covered Kyle's mouth and smiled.
"Sure no problem Maps if Mrs. Marshall suspects anything well just say you two went off to collect more twigs okay." Maps nodded and made her way back to the woods. Removing his hand Kyle glared at Colton, he just shrugged and went back to eating his smore.
"I don't know what you have plan but she better come back in one piece." He threatened, Colton looked offended. "As if I'd let Maps jump into something that was crazy, but you should know your sister by now my friend. " Said Colton smirking.
"Even if you told her no, she'd probable would have still gone." Kyle glared at him harder. "Don't worry so much she's a tough girl she can handle herself."
Kyle sighed "I suppose so." Kyle stared off to the direction Maps went in.
He had a bad feeling about this but he didn't know why?
To The Woods
"Damian where are you?" Maps shouted through her cuffed hands.
She has been walking for about 30 minutes and still no sign of him she was beginning to think he may have gotten lost or maybe called up his privet jet and flew away or something. Just then in the distance Maps saw someone stand behind a tree not far off from her. It must be Damian, as she was about to shout out his name again until she felt a soft tap on her shoulder.
"You have a knack for wondering off on your own don't you." Maps jumped three feet high covering her mouth from screaming her lungs off. She turned around to stare at the dark hair boy astonished by his calm nonchalant face she'd punch him if she wasn't just half scared to death.
Where did he even come from? wasn't he...?
"Damian? what the heck." She caught her breath as he made his way closer to her crushing a few twigs in his wake. He reached for her hand gripping it tightly, staring intently into her eyes. She was a little caught off guard from how much emotion was evident in his eyes.
"Damian why'd you go off on your own like that your kind of acting weird." His expression changed into something she was more familiar with, he was glaring at her. "Why do you think huh? I never wanted to come on this ridiculous trip to begin with and now I have to participate in this until Friday." His grip got tighter she was starting to feel her hand go numb.
"Damian I-" she was cut off by him shoving her against the tree she gave out a yelp as he did so she couldn't read his expression anymore it held something else something darker.
"But of course you wouldn't understand, nobody does." His eyes softened, avoiding eye contact.
"No... this isn't how I want to do this...I'm sorry Maps." Damian gently let go of her hand backing up to give her enough space to leave if she wanted. He looked so broken.
"What's wrong Damian? What do you mean by understand?" He didn't say anything just stood there staring at the ground. He hadn't really planned anything he just wanted to come clean about his feelings not only to her but also to himself too. This was so frustrating.
"Look I'm going to be straightforward with you, I have a confession to make." Maps nodded letting him continue to talk. He sighed again.
"I-" suddenly there was a heavy step making them both froze in their spot. Was someone there? Maps heart began to beat loud, the steps grew closer, the sound of heavy boots etched its self in her brain telling her to run, hide, before its too late.
"Dami maybe we should-" Without finishing her sentence Damian quickly grabbed her hand and ran. Catching Maps off guard as she stumbled trying to catch her balance, but failing miserably. She tripped and fell flat on her face letting go of Damian's hand.
"Maps!" Damian knelt down to help her up he stopped when he heard the footsteps pace quicken towards them. He could just easily confront the scum bag chasing them but he didn't want Maps to get involved. He picked her up with ease. He looked into her eyes and said.
"You need to run back to the came and inform the teacher of my whereabouts things might get ugly so, I need you to run." Maps looked at him crazy of course something she picked up from her brother no doubt. "No, I'm not leaving you behind." His face softened as he gripped her shoulders for support.
"Thank You but trust me I can handle this now go." He shoved her aside getting into fighting position ready to take on what comes at him, Maps was torn between staying to help him fight or-
"Mmm!" Maps made a struggling sound as someone grabbed her from behind covering her mouth with a rag, she began to feel sleepy. Closing her eyes she fell helplessly limp in the man's grip.
"Maps leave now before you-" He turned around to see a tall dark man holding Maps captive. His blood boiled and a low animalistic growl made its way out of Damian's mouth he griped his fist and was about to strike, as he gave off a war cry he felt a heavy object connect with his head falling to the ground. He was attacked from behind.
"What's wrong with you? don't let your guard down so easily we could have gotten in trouble." Damian heard the sound of a women talking, he tried to look at her but he could barley move, although he saw that she wore a pigs mask. There was only one man in Gotham who's whole persona reminisce that of a pig.
"PYG!" Damian whispered before succumbing into the darkness.

Sooo....
I get that Maps isn't the main focus in this comic series, but I was really hoping for some more info about her new hero gig. She was barely in the new chapter, but I think that'll change as the series continues.
But let's talk about what we do know.
1. She's from the future, that much is explained.
2. She goes by Meridian
3. She's there to help stop a potential 'end of the world' apocalyptic situation.
What we learned from this latest chapter is that her abilities are connected to that machine attached to her arm.
She had just Thano snapped herself back into the past. Which was cool! But that's it. In this new chapter, we see how mature and serious she became compared to when she was a child.
Although, it was short lived. I'm curious if DC will make a whole separate comic explaining Maps' journey and how she became Meridian.
It's a long shot, but I'm hopeful in the development of her character. She honestly deserves her own series, or they could at least bring back GA.

New Chapter!
There wasn't much we saw of Maps in this chapter. But I love the change of art design. It's so much smoother and cleaner than the previous books.
But what I noticed was that there is something strange interfering with Maps signal. I'm not sure what it is, but Maps is determined to stay and help no matter what.
Also, it's pretty ominous how she said, "That field, where the battle always is..." Maps knows what's about to happen next, clearly. And it doesn't sound like it'll end too well.
On another note, Maps isn't interfering too much outside of assisting the team in a few battles. Is this due to some law/rule of time travel? Is she not supposed to interfere extensively with history?
These are questions I need answered.
This page was definitely a highlight. Seeing Maps take on Wonder Woman wasn't something I thought we'd ever see happen.
I wish we saw more of her combat, but it seems she possesses a gun that shoots out electricity/lightning that deals damage to her enemies. There are probably other cool features about that device, but we're not likely going to see much of it here, sadly. This is why she needs her own comics series as Meridian.
Maps and Cass teaming up would be so cool! I could see them in future time lines working together. Especially since this isn't their first time teaming up.

10 Ways Damian asks Maps out!
It's been a while since I posted anything other than updates about my DamiMaps fics, so here you guys go! Ten ways I think Damian would ask Maps out (accidental or not). Considering it's about time our grumpy boy decided it's time to make a move on his little future wife I mean long-time friend.
1. Gift Giving
We all know Damian isn't one to communicate his true feelings for someone. So he gives gifts to express himself without being too sentimental. And the price is no concern for him, (especially since he's absolutely loaded). The more extravagant the gift, the more prominent the feeling is.
Maps: Damian...?
Damian: Yes
Maps: We'd you buy me a car.
Damian: Because I want you to be mine.
Maps: BUT A CAR!!
2. Sending A Letter
The most formal way of communicating one's feelings is through a letter. It not only screams romantic but it's an old fashion way of confessing. Only if done correctly.
Olive: Hey Maps you've got mail.
Maps: Who's it from?
Olive: It's Money Bags.
Maps, open up the letter: ...
Olive: What? What does it say?
Maps: It just says... you're pretty.
3. Taking A Stroll
Imagine, Maps and Damian walking hand in hand, taking a stroll down a stream or in a park. Maps rambling about a new map or a mystery the gang was investigating. And Damian not hearing a single word because he was much too enthralled with how pretty she looked under the twilight next to him. She turns to him smiling and he just blurts out his feelings.
Maps, rambling: It's so cool, don't you think so too Damian?
Damian, not listening: Yes, I think you being my girlfriend would be perfect.
Maps: What!?
Damian: Huh?
4. As Robin
Damian has a hard time differentiating himself from robin and at times when he's stressed or overwhelmed he lets his genuine emotions slip out from the cracks of the mask.
Damian!Robin: Are you crazy you could have gotten killed! Do you have any idea what I'd do if you got hurt? I
Maps: What's it to you huh, why do you even care?
Damian!Robin: Because I love you too much not to!
Maps: ...
Damian!Robin: ...
5. Third-Party Request
Damian asking one of his brothers for help in finding out whether or not the Mizoguchi girl has a boyfriend or not may or may not be the smartest decision he's ever made...
Damian: Drake I need your assistance.
Tim: What is it?
Damian: I need you to ask Mizgouchi if she has a mate.
Tim: Why can't you ask her yourself?
Damian: Then she'll think that I like her.
Tim: Don't you?
Damian: -tt- can you do it or not?
Tim, shrugs his shoulders: Sure, hey Maps Damian wants to know if you have a boyfriend.
Damian, blushing: DRAKE!!
6. Pretend Dating
Damian didn't plan for things to turn out like this... honest.
Damian, barging into Maps' dorm room: I need you to pretend to be my girlfriend for a week.
Maps: The fan girls again?
Damian, hissing: The fan girls.
Maps: Alright, but you owe me a real date after.
Damian: Fine deal, now come- wait what!?
7. Being Over Protective
Damian is the green-eyed monster that we all love! But he can go a bit overboard when it comes to people he really likes. He can't help it really. Especially when his spot for potential boyfriend is threatened by some lowlife.
Random Boy: I like you, Maps!
Maps: Oh I don't-
Damian, appearing out of nowhere glaring: Well, I suggest you find someone else to pursue because she belongs to me. Now leave before I cut off those french fry fingers of yours.
Random Boy: *Bolts*
Maps, rolls her eyes: Real smooth, Romeo.
8. Arguing
Every couple argues it's normal. Heck, it may even lead to better things down the road... who know.
Damian: Why didn't you tell me you were going on a date? We were supposed to meet at Gotham Zoo to investigate the recent disappearance of the sea lions.
Maps: First of all I didn't go on a date, and second I meant to call you but my phone died.
Damian: Don't lie, I saw you hanging out with that Eric guy the other day. Where'd you two go that was so important you were late?
Maps: He needed help with his homework it's no biggy.
Damian: -tt- it is a biggy.
Maps: Why is it such a big deal? I'm here, aren't I?
Damian: Because I wanted to be with you, don't you understand?
Maps: Do you mean like, hanging out or dating?
Damian:... let's just go.
Maps: Hey, no, answer my question, Damian Wayne!
9. Pizza Date
Damian knew Maps' favorite food was pizza, what better way to confess that than by ordering pizza and spelling out 'be my girlfriend in all pepperoni? He could have gone with her second favorite which was spring rolls. But he didn't know where to buy spring rolls.
Maps: Wow! You got an extra large pizza.
Damian: I owed you for that thing last week.
Maps: You spoil me, you know that... um, I think they gave us the wrong order?
Damian, sweating: W-why do you think that?
Maps: Because it says will you be my girlfriend, Karen.
Damian: Those fools, how could they have misspelled your name this badly. I gave them specific orders not to.
Maps:!!!
10. Scavenger Hunt
Damian knows Maps can't pass up a good mystery, so when he invites her on a scavenger hunt, she jumps at the opportunity with no hesitation. In this one-word scavenger hunt, there are puzzles, clues, and riddles for her to solve. That'll spell out 'will you be mine?' and lead her to Damian standing in the middle of a field with a flower and a coupon for her favorite restaurant Batburger.
Damian, standing nervously: I know this is sudden and all but I-
Maps, jumping into his arms: Yes! Thousand times yes!
Damian: I suppose I had nothing to worry about.
And the two embraced and lived happily ever after!
