Columbo would catch Hannibal because, beneath all the genre differences between them, there's something that gives Columbo an edge. I mean, Hannibal's rich, cosmopolitan, aristocratic, arrogant in his own superiority, he's essentially a Columbo villain in the more dark world of Thomas Harris novels/Mann's Manhunter/Silence of the Lambs/the Hannibal tv show.
What I mean is that Columbo is one 'Uhh, my wife, she's been reading a lotta books on psychiatry' away from putting Hannibal away.
