Dandelion Cyanotypes

Based on my ink drawing.

Cyanotype is a 19th century photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Paper is coated in light-sensitive solution, exposed to the sun and developed in water. Prints can be later toned in tea, coffee and other substances.

‘Burgeoning,’ the second of four paintings I made to become cards for Magic: The Gathering. I definitely wouldn’t think of cityscapes and environments being a strength of mine, so this was trickyyyy! The brief was to depict a human figure lifted by vines in an old cityscape that was overrun by the overgrowth, all in my own style. I envisioned a Druid commanding her powers of nature to take over an ancient dilapidated city, floating ominously at the city entrance gate. I figured a dramatic sunset lighting with intense fiery clouds in the skyscape behind was what the painting needed for that foreboding, mystery and fantasy touch. Surprisingly, it turned out pretty cool!
