I’ve seen the Samson replaces Cullen as Inquisition commander headcanons and think they’re great. But I also like the idea of Samson and Maddox ending up at Redcliffe with the rebel mages. The Templars want to kill all sympathisers so it’s safety in numbers.
Samson’s presence is controversial initially, but a few people there remember being helped by him and they figure it’s best to keep an eye on him
Samson weakened and struggling through withdrawal, but he’s got a better chance now that there are healers around. He tries to be useful wherever he can. Helping them predict what the Templars might do, his information is limited and outdated but every little bit helps.
Maddox’s steadfast loyalty to him, which smashes stereotypes about the Tranquil being mindless drones. It sparks something where rebel mages who mostly ignored/were afraid of the Tranquil start trying to talk to them. They end up getting useful/interesting information which the Tranquil hadn’t shared because they weren’t asked. Slowly but surely they start getting treated more like individuals
Maddox eventually getting cured, the feeeels <3

Ring of Fire
Inquisitor Anders learns about the cure for Tranquility before they find Maddox.
Maddox / Samson, Maddox & Samson, Anders/Sebastian, past Anders/Karl
I’m starting a series in the middle because why not?
Chapter 1 of 2 up
“Hello Inquisitor”, the man said from the floor without lifting his eyes.
‘A Tranquil Mage? Why?’ Anders’ zeal from battle turned to acute discomfort as he stared at the ring of fire on the man’s forehead. He could not look into a Tranquil’s face without seeing Karl as well.
“You know me?”, Anders asked, his heart beating like the wings of a trapped bird.
“It’s Maddox. Samson’s Tranquil,” Cullen said.  Anders thought the Templar had started to come around, but then he gave this casual assertion of ownership, an echo of so many he had heard through his life. It had Anders whirl around. The brown of Cullen's wide eyes were made blue by the light of Justice.
“He does not belong to anyone”,  Anders and Justice said as one.
“I-, yes. Yes, of course. I apologize”, Cullen stammered but his eyes shifted behind Anders.
Before Anders turned he knew what he would see. Maddox’s once placid face was awash with emotions.

like i just. i just need to lay this out. becuz i need to go to bed but i will not be able to stop thinking about this otherwise. okay. so
the tranquil we see in inquisition
Avexis. who was a major player in the events of dawn of the seeker. helped save the day alongside cassandra. was honored by the divine. she's tranquil now. she's minaeve's assistant and we see her around haven but we can't speak to her
overheard dialogue between her and giselle reveals that she has been so horribly abused while tranquil that she wouldn't chose to be cured becuz she doesn't think she could handle dealing with her trauma with all her emotions intact
cassandra, who knew avexis, who tells you the story of saving the divine and mourns how she is celebrated while the mages were forgotton, has absolutely fuck all to say about any of this. if she even knows avexis is in haven
you don't know avexis's significance if you haven't watched dawn of the seeker. we don't see avexis again following in your heart shall burn
Helisma Derrington. becomes your lead of creature research upon your arrival to skyhold. presumably one of minaeve's assistants prior as she is given the position by minaeve if minaeve lives
(minaeve is the only character afaik that you can talk to about the tranquil at any kind of length and who appears to give any kind of shit about them)
you can have conversation with helisma, which i think is great, and she even gives you war table missions if you talk with her enough. it's been too long since i've played and i couldn't find a full video, but you can get SOME of her perspective on being tranquil. it isn't much. her memory doesn't appear to be very good
Clemence. you have one (1) conversation with him which is his recruitment, and that's only if you check out the mages in redcliffe and then bother to talk to ppl after your convo with alexius. his conversation is interesting but brief. i don't know if anyone has taken a fly cam for close ups on everyone wearing robes in redcliffe, but for the average player, he's the only tranquil we know to be there. we do not see him again
Maddox. a tranquil from kirkwall. he was made tranquil for passing love letters. samson was kicked out of the templars for passing them for him. the only thing cullen has to say about it is that meredith made mages tranquil for even lesser "offenses"; he doesn't appear overly bothered by this
you only get to see maddox if you side with the mages. he dies. he kills himself ostensibly to aid samson. he remains loyal to samson to the end. this is arguably the best evidence we have of a tranquil exercising autonomy
(EDIT: forgot to mention Pharamond. you only learn about him by finding an obscure note in a certain cave in the western approach. it doesn't really tell you what he was doing there and you have to intuit that he's an ex-tranquil. you don't know the significance of this unless you've read asunder)
~
the tranquil are all killed. not all of them obviously, but a lot. the majority. so many are killed that their murderers have trouble finding more to kill. they are killed by the venatori. their skulls are used to make the ocularum that allow you to find the shards. tranquil skulls specifically are needed to make them. we don't know how they find this out
a tranquil must be killed within proximity to shards for the oculara to work. no one knows where that proximity is until the tranquil is killed and the oculara is able to be made. if the oculara doesn't work, they move to a different location and try again. the tranquil must be killed exactly as a demon possesses them. if their death is off even by mere minutes, it won't work. they have to do it again
(take into account how many ocularum there are. take into account that tranquil were among the largest populations in the circles and that the majority of them were killed. remember how many ocularum there are. take into account the failures during discovery and the failures during attempts to make them. estimate a number. remember that so many tranquil were killed, the venatori struggled to find more to kill. double the number)
you only find out what happened to the tranquil, this knowledge about the ocularum, if you enter the shack near the docks in redcliffe. it requires the deft hands fine tools perk. nothing is said about them otherwise
your companions have various dialogue about this. cassandra says she'd wondered what happened to them and that she should have looked harder to find them. solas says he'd wondered what happened, he says their deaths are a waste. vivienne says she'd assumed they were with the rebels and that she shouldn't have. cole says they couldn't call for help, that if he'd heard them he'd have saved them, that he'll avenge them
once you leave, no one says anything more. you can't say anything more. you don't even get a war table mission about it. if this happens prior to promise of destruction you can't bring it up in your post-quest convo with cass. you can't bring it up when you later discuss releasing the truth of the cure with her
the ocularum stay up. you can continue to use them. nothing is mentioned about whether they are ever taken down
people didn't care about the tranquil, if they even noticed they were gone. the people who cared about them didn't look hard enough for them, or they decided someone else must have. no one mentions them to you when you're herald, when you're inquisitor; you aren't given the option to look for them
the loyal templars didn't protect them. the seekers didn't protect them. the rebel mages didn't protect them. no other mage group protected them. minaeve is the only person we know of that makes an effort to protect as many as she can
we never get to talk to any tranquil character about this. we can't tell them about the ocularum. we can't tell them about the cure
the tranquil suffer the worst cruelties the circles have to offer. and then they die. they are killed en masse. off-screen. and they are never mentioned again
no one cares about them. you aren't allowed to care about them. the bioware writers sure as fuck don't care about them

Doing a DAI playthrough as Melinoe (Lennie) if she was Isu-sized, in other words a Qunari. So...she's an archer and artificer. She allied with the Templars, which makes her nemesis Calpernia. Pisses me off that you can convince Cal to stand down at the Well of Sorrows, but then you can't recruit her. Well...fuck that. It's why fanfic exists, no?

on divine justinia (pt 3)
Justinia V will be remembered as one of the most progressive Divines in the history of the Chantry. Before her untimely death at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, she made strides to break down barriers for both mages and elves, as well as encouraging free thought among the Maker’s many children. For her views, she won as many enemies as she did supporters.
-- World of Thedas Vol 2.
PART THREE of a series, exploring Divine Justinia’s political stance. Was she really as progressive as people claimed?
Firstly, before we even dive into looking at Justinia as a character, we should define ‘progressive’. In the most base of definitions, it implies progress -- a gradual betterment. As a widely accepted definition, someone whose politics advocate for social reform.
PART ONE - LELIANA'S SONG. / PART TWO - DRAGON AGE II. / PART THREE - THE MASKED EMPIRE.
The Masked Empire
As always, before we begin, here's some contextual factors to this story that are necessary to know/things I'm going to emphasise here out of relevance:
There are three weeks in-world between the events of TME and Asunder -- that means the Order is still bound to the Chantry, and the Circles are still very much in-tact.
One year after the events in Kirkwall, Fiona is elected as the new Grand Enchanter and immediately proposes to secede from the Chantry. In response, the Chantry disbands the College of Enchanters and stops them from meeting, despite the fact that this vote did not go through (in large part due to the urging of Wynne).
The War of the Lions hasn't yet started in earnest, though tensions between Gaspard and Celene are running high.
For the most part, I'm going to focus specifically on two scenes, both involving conversations between Celene and Leliana, who is acting as a representative for Divine Justinia.
Well! Let's dive right into it -- in this first scene, Leliana and Celene meet to discuss the growing mage-templar tensions, and what Justinia will do about it.
Celene: The templars have become even more restless since what happened in Kirkwall, as have the mages, for that matter. What does Dorothea intend to do? Leliana: The Divine does not wish to assume that what transpired in Kirkwall was anything more than the actions of a single mad mage driven to tragic action by overzealous templars. You know that in some Marcher city-states, mages face more restrictions than they do in Orlais.
"A single mad mage" is an obvious reference to Anders. Anders was not "mad" -- some strange writing decisions seemed to conflate his shared body with a spirit of Justice to having bipolar disorder. Even if you do interpret that as Anders also being bipolar, that wouldn't make him crazy. More than that, Anders protested Meredith's treatment of mages -- and he was right about all of it, in the end. Alrik really was making mages Tranquil to rape them -- and he really did propose a Tranquil solution to the Divine, who rejected it. (Unsurprising, considering the looming threat of the Qunari invasion in Act 2; I've written here about how the Circle functions primarily as a military resource and how the only time you see mages let out in Kirkwall properly is during the Qunari invasion when the templars instruct the Circle mages to defend the city). Meredith really was turning Harrowed mages Tranquil -- Karl Thekkla, for example, but she also turns Maddox Tranquil and can turn all of the surviving Starkhaven mages Tranquil as well -- against Chantry law. Most damningly, Meredith had already called for the Right of Annulment in Kirkwall long before Anders took any action at all -- she really was going to kill all of the mages and had taken the steps necessary to facilitate that action. Anders' actions were a direct response to Meredith asking the Divine for permission to slaughter the entire Circle. Cassandra interrogates Varric in 9:41, and it's unclear where that fits into this timeline, but Varric does say that he was brought to Haven after his interrogation. I'll give Leliana (and Justinia) the benefit of the doubt here and say that maybe they don't have the full story just yet.
But Leliana also says "overzealous templars" -- overzealous templars that Leliana and Justinia had plenty of opportunity to censure or bring to heel, and never did. Overzealous templars -- because of course, they're just very passionate when they're sending death squads to hunt down civilians accused of helping "apostates" and murdering nobility trying to organise an election of a new Viscount. They're just very passionate about their beliefs in the Maker when they make mages Tranquil to rape them, when they beat Tranquil mages over things they can't control, and making eleven year old children Tranquil. They're just very passionate about their beliefs in the Maker which is why they refused to investigate the actual serial killer using magic in Kirkwall, because they wanted to remain in favour with the nobility. And Justinia knows this because this was going on for three years, during which Justinia did nothing until the mages started to rebel.
More importantly, this is ... the direct opposite of what Leliana said in DA2. In DA2, Leliana explicitly states that they (both herself and the Divine, who she speaks on behalf of) attribute the unrest in Kirkwall to the Resolutionists -- an offshoot of the Libertarian Fraternity, who are interested in freeing mages from the Circle. Not that the unrest was a result of horrific abuses in the Circle, or even the untenable political situation in Kirkwall. There was certainly no indication that Justinia suspected or agreed that the templars overstepped their bounds -- there was no directive from Justinia, who would have overruled Elthina on the matter, forcing Meredith to back down. There was no statement ever claiming that the templars were wrong to act as they did. If anything, Justinia threatened an Exalted March to help the templars maintain their control of Kirkwall.
So why phrase it like this? I think the interesting thing to note here is actually Leliana's use of the phrase "the Divine does not wish to assume". This seems to indicate that at this time, Justinia is trying not to treat the situation as a mage rebellion - she is treating Kirkwall, not as the start of a mage rebellion, but rather an isolated incident involving a single crazy mage and some passionate templars. There is some indication here that she's reluctant to consider Kirkwall or the mages voting for secession as indicative of a wider problem but...
“I do,” Celene said, “and I also know that you have not answered my question. If Dorothea proposes to do nothing to unite the templars and the mages, she is following in the footsteps of Grand Cleric Elthina, who waited and prayed while Kirkwall tore itself apart.” She turned and faced Nightingale directly. The other woman had reacted again at the use of the Divine’s given name. “Justinia wishes to see this world made better, Your Radiance. We gain nothing by acting capriciously.” “Sometimes events do not allow us the time we wish, especially when magic is at play.” Celene looked at Nightingale, who sat as a proper lady, relaxed and poised in her simple robes, and made a guess. “I understand that during the last Blight, the Circle tower in Ferelden was nearly lost when one of their senior mages became an abomination. After killing the creatures, the Hero of Ferelden was forced to decide on the spot whether to kill every remaining mage in the tower.” Her barb struck home, as Nightingale blinked, then said with heat, “We are hardly in the thick of battle, Your Radiance.” “We are always in battle,” Celene said. “It is only that some of us do not always realize it."
Following on from the thread of the previous conversation, to me, Celene seems to be urging Leliana to tell the Divine to take more definitive action against the mages. She deliberately creates a parallel between Elthina insisting she had control of the situation and not taking direct action to Justinia insisting Kirkwall was a single isolated incident. She directly draws parallels between how Elthina's lack of action led to the situation in Kirkwall and how Justinia's lack of action could lead to a similar situation with the mages and templars.
More alarmingly, however, is Celene's next, far more subtle proposal. To me, I was always baffled by why Celene suddenly started to talk about Kinloch Hold, but after looking at this context, I actually think Celene is suggesting a much more permanent, direct resolution to the mage problem, similar to the kind of decision the HoF had to make - whether or not to annul the entire Circle.
To me, I think this reads as Celene proposing the Chantry goes to war on the mages. She chooses the specific example of Kinloch Hold because Leliana was there - so that Leliana will not misunderstand the kind of action she expects the Divine to take.
To Leliana's credit, she does retort that the conflict hasn't escalated to the point where that's necessary yet, and that the Divine does not wish to act "capriciously".
“Perhaps I might,” Celene said, and smiled before lowering her voice and continuing. “Divine Justinia must know this: I have nobles begging in private salons for the throne to take direct action in this matter.” At Leliana’s shocked look, she nodded. “There are men of Orlais who would sooner see us march upon our own people in the name of safety. I would despise that. Dorothea knows that I would. But I must offer them some alternative.” Leliana stood, frowning in thought. “You wish the Divine to make some overt show of ameliorating the situation.” Celene let out a breath. “In truth, any overt show will bring complaints that I have allowed the Chantry free rein to rule this empire for me,” she said, and Leliana nodded wordlessly. “But if Justinia can calm tempers before I am forced to turn the blade of the empire upon itself, then I will pay such a price willingly.” Leliana smiled. “You think less for yourself and more for Orlais than I had expected, Your Radiance. It is a fortunate quality in a ruler, and one I have not seen enough.” Celene stood as well, and for a moment her gown was bathed in the crimson light of the stained glass. “Tell me something. How large was the Archdemon?” Leliana laughed the delicate cultured laugh of a noblewoman or trained bard. The effect made her sister’s robes look like a poor disguise. “Large enough, Your Radiance, that after having seen it, most problems seem small by comparison.” Her face turned serious, and she added, “I will ask Justinia to consider acting directly. She will want your support, to head off accusations that she might be attempting to steal power for herself.” “Of course. Perhaps if she made a statement at a ball thrown in her honor?” Leliana considered it. “It is not the place where one would expect her to make such a pronouncement…” “Which is why you like the idea,” Celene said, smiling.
Celene makes it clear here that the Orlesian nobility is restless about the growing mage/templar situation which is quickly growing unstable. I specifically want to draw attention to Celene's phrasing here - "march upon our own people in the name of safety" - because I think the implication here that she considers the mages as "her own people" is an appeal to Leliana to get the Divine to act.
But how does she want Justinia to act? At a first glance, it seems reasonable here that Celene is asking for Justinia to try and talk to the mages and templars and settle things between them. Except, when Leliana specifically asks whether Justinia should "make some overt show or ameliorating the situation", Celene's response is that "any overt show will bring complaints" - which reads to me as a decline. She is declining that Justinia should try to reason with both parties.
On top of that, there's some more ambigious phrasing here. ".. if Justinia can calm tempers" - Celene makes no mention here of whose tempers she means. From a first glance perspective, or even from Leliana's perspective, it might seem like she's referring to the roused tempers of the templars and mages, following on from the actions in Kirkwall. But with the context of the previous paragraph in mind, where she very much points out that the nobility of Orlais are not happy with the state of the mage/templar situation, I think she's referring to Justinia doing something that will calm the tempers of the nobility of Orlais.
Later, she follows it up with the phrase "I will pay such a price willingly", referring to the public loss of opinion with the nobility if Justinia can calm these tempers. To Leliana, I imagine it reads as something magnanimous - indeed, Leliana even says that Celene thinks "more for Orlais" than herself, which was unexpected.
But to me, it reads as Celene promising Justinia that if the situation worsens, if Justinia calls for an Exalted March on the mages, Orlais will answer the call. Orlais is willing to march on the mages, if only Justinia calls for an Exalted March, and Orlais -- through it's Empress -- is willing to lose the small amount of public opinion - that people might whisper she's allowing the Chantry free reign of Orlais (and, presumably, all it's resources, for the purposes of this Exalted March, which is actually... an interesting perspective for Orlais to take. But I will not get sidetracked here) - if it accomplishes the greater goal of resolving the mage/templar tensions directly and definitively, because the lack of resolution is causing a negative reaction from the Orlesian nobles, which we know Gaspard is taking advantage of.
(Important to note: at this point, an Exalted March is still entirely feasible; the Order is still bound to the Chantry by the Nevarran Accord. Justinia has been considering an Exalted March since 9:37, though Leliana's dialogue suggests she's hesitant to go through with it. Historically, Orlais has contributed to the Exalted Marches and has been the sole contributor of at least one Exalted March.)
But Vee, I hear you say, this is absurd. Surely, this is a bad faith reading of the situation, no way Celene would propose something like this. No way Leliana or even Justinia would agree to this.
I have several counterarguments to this: firstly, the Grand Game of Orlais relies on complexity of word play and layered meanings. It relies on saying on thing and meaning, at the very minimum, three other things. It's entirely plausible for Celene to be appealing to Leliana's sense of empathy and justice, to seem to be proposing that Justinia soothe the tempers of the mages and templars to prevent something worse from happening, using the same words that she's actually proposing something entirely different - and more violent and direct - to Justinia with.
Secondly, by the time Justinia calls for the Conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, she already has a writ for the creation of the Inquisition prepared and Leliana already has agents planted in the Hinterlands, only minutes away from Redcliffe, where the mage rebellion is seeking refuge. The Inquisition was planned and I am fairly sure that the Inquisition was created specifically to march on the mages. This is not a last minute thought - that writ is huge - this was planned. This was in the works already - why isn't it feasible that this is where it starts? Justinia was already considering an Exalted March on Kirkwall. Why is it so unfeasible that she'd consider more direct action to deal with the mages?
Thirdly, there's actually a follow-up conversation with Leliana about this that I think pretty much confirms that this is what Celene and Leliana (and as she's a proxy for Justinia, also the Divine) are discussing here.
Take the next excerpt:
Celene shut her eyes. “And what does the Divine think about this?” Leliana smiled. “The Divine has never had a very high opinion of the theater, Your Radiance.” At Celene’s silence, the Divine’s representative sighed. “The elves are the children of the Maker, just as we are, and just as deserving of His grace.” “But the Divine will not say that,” Celene guessed. Leliana looked away. She had been trained as a bard, so every movement she made was likely deliberate, but Celene thought that her discomfort was genuine. “I have … been comrade-in-arms with elves. I would not see them harmed. But you did not ask for her support in that matter.” She looked back at Celene. “You asked for her support calming the templars and the mages.” “Indeed.” Celene nodded. “And will she give that support?” Leliana let out a breath. “She will,” she said, nodding slowly, “but in return, she needs to know that this matter with the elves is under control.” Celene felt her heart break inside her, for all that she had known within moments how the conversation would go. She breathed a tiny sigh, and then said, “Of course. I could hardly ask the Divine to keep her affairs in order were I not willing to do the same myself. I hope you enjoy the coming ball in Justinia’s honor. I fear I will not be able to attend in person.” “The Divine understands,” Leliana said, and in a soft, sad voice, added, “Walk with the Maker’s blessing.”
I've written a little bit before on how Justinia doesn't seem to care very much about the methods that Celene uses to resolve the situation with the elves -- it's Leliana who hopes for a peaceful resolution. It's Leliana who believes elves are children of the Maker.
But I actually think what's happening in this scene is more horrifying than I initially thought. This is the second interaction between the two -- and with the context of the first scene, it feels like this is Leliana saying the Divine has agreed to more drastic measures for the mage rebellion if Celene will also deal with the elven rebellion. That the Divine will accept Orlais' support and march on the mages if Celene can deal with the elven rebellion quickly.
This is Leliana passing on Divine Justinia's agreement to a more permanent solution to the mage rebellion. This is Divine Justinia agreeing to an Exalted March on the mage rebellion, and agreeing to support Celene if Celene will support her. Justinia's support here is conditional on Celene maintaining control - and Celene's support is conditional on Justinia maintaining control.
That's...horrifying. But why else would Leliana sound sad, unless she knew exactly what Celene was going to do? What the Divine was allowing Celene to do? What the Divine was telling Celene to do in exchange for the solution Celene proposed? Celene herself explicitly states that she cannot ask the Divine to take action without also being willing to take kind of action herself.
And as we know, the direct action Celene takes to deal with the rumours in Orlais of her sympathising with elves, to solidify her political position, is to slaughter all the elves in the Halamshiral alienage. That is the clearest indication to me that what Celene was proposing was an Exalted March on the mages - and the Divine agreed.
i want you to keep in mind that, at this stage, the College of Enchanters has been dissolved. Fiona has proposed seceding from the Chantry but the vote did not pass. For the most part, there is no mage rebellion currently; they've been cut off from each other, their right of assembly has been revoked, and the templars are still very much aligned with the Chantry. What Justinia is agreeing to here is if the situation gets worse, she will take action, and Orlais will back her up on it.
This sets up the background for Asunder; the Divine's last ditch attempt at resolving the situation before she takes definitive action against the mages.
Could they be with Gaspard, countering Celene’s plan? Unlikely. Ser Michel would never have turned traitor, and while Melcendre had lured him out with blackmail once, he was still too ashamed to allow such a ruse to work twice. They had come from Celene. Had Gaspard done something to force the empress’s hand? Had the Divine made a new demand? What had changed Celene’s mind? Then, as she came past the torches, Briala saw the night sky, glowing a sooty red. She smelled the smoke of Halamshiral’s slums burning. After that, Briala stopped thinking.

Acceleracers HC’s! Game Night! Metal Maniacs Edition!
Metal Maniacs
(Taro Kitano, Tork Maddox, Monkey McClurg, Porkchop Riggs & Mark Wylde)
+Bonus Round
(Doctor Tezla & Lani Tam)
Metal Maniacs
Taro Kitano - Taro has one of the best poker faces in the world. He’s impossible to read, and on top of that, he always seems to be able to pick up on everyone else’s tells. After an entire lifetime of stoicism, he’s learned that, in most cases, waiting and watching is a much better option than verbally bluffing out a hand. He enjoys Five Card, but his favorite is Texas Hold ‘Em. Other than poker, he’s a big fan of the game Sequence. He likes the mix between strategy and luck.
Tork Maddox - It’s not so much a party game, but Tork seems like the type of guy to really enjoy Pool. He used to make the Maniacs meet at the local dive bar for a couple rounds, but eventually they fixed up an old beat up one that they found at the junkyard. It’s definitely got some character, but now they don’t have to worry about assigning a designated driver. Plus, with all its dents and and scuffs, it fits in more with the Maniacs.
Monkey McClurg - Monkey plays Dungeons & Dragons. I will take no notes. But for real, could you imagine the Maniacs finding out he plays this big nerd game. I feel like they’d give him shit for it for at least a week, but when Monkeys all like ‘don’t knock it till you try it.’ He’s basically daring them to play. Of course, eventually they give in and he makes a big night out of it. Snacks, drinks, lighting, the works. He even helps them all make characters he thinks fit them the best. None of the Maniacs would admit it, but they all had fun that night.
Porkchop Riggs - With all the truck stops and diners he’s been to, Porkchop is a master at Checkers. When he was young, he would actually ask people to play with him while they waited for their food or for a shower room to open up. Because of this, he got really good at it at a decently young age. Y’all ever hear the saying, “they’re playing checkers, I’m playing chess.” That’s Pockchop accept he’s playing Checkers like Chess. Other than that, he also loves playing Go Fish!
Mark Wylde - Mark has a love hate relationship with Uno. There are times where he loves it, and there are times where it makes him want to pick up the chair he’s sitting on and lob it across the room because his dickhead brother just skipped his turn and stacked a plus four so now Mark has to pick up sixteen cards. However, when Kurt gets to Uno and Mark gets to give him the same treatment, he claims that Uno is the best game ever created. It’s a fine line he walks.
Bonus Round
Doctor Tezla - You think Tezla has time for games??? You think this stressed out mf has time for a nice round of checkers??? Who do you think you are????? That being said, Tezla cannot go a week without playing at least one game of Chess. It’s a good stress relief, and it keeps his mind sharp. He really only plays it with Gig, but Lani has since joined their little club too. Eventually, Tezla even asks Karma to join them.
Lani Tam - Despite playing Chess with Doctor Tezla, it’s not her favorite game. She mainly does it to pick his brain and see where his thoughts are for the day. Usually, his game reflects his current state of mind, which unfortunately, is almost always slightly unhinged. I feel like Lani’s favorite game would be Mafia. Specifically when people are getting way too into it and holding fake trials on who they think the Mafia members are. As much as she tries to unite the two teams in the Acceledrome, she loves the fake drama that comes with playing Mafia.

Chloe Charming headcanons revised;
Tumblr media
Chloe is Cinderella and Kit Charming's only biological child.
She is 8 years younger than her.
She is 18 by the time the pocketwatch takes place.
Her middle name is Cordelia after her maternal grandmother.
She is 8 in d1 and too young to go to Auradon Prep which is why the vks didn't know about her.
She's very athletic and loves fencing in particular.
Chad use to play them and other games with her before their grandfather died when Chad started middle school. Chad hasn't played games or really spent real time with her since. At least not as much as he used to.
Chloe is sickly and has a heart condition which takes up a lot of her parents' time and attention.
She's also small and frail for her age.
She is her parents' miracle baby since they thought they couldn't have bio children.
Which is one of the many reasons why Chad is the way he is.
She has a pet cat named 'Bumpsy'. Bumpsy is an old cat and one of the many children of Lucifer and Pom-Pom.
Chad has a kitten that is a child of that of one of Lucifer and Pom-Pom's litter, but he doesn't let Chloe touch it.
He doesn't let her touch his mice, horse, and dog either.
It bothers Chloe even though she has her own mice, horse, and dog.
Chad does love his sister but he can't help but resent her sometimes.
Chloe gets along with her cousins usually (if they're alive during whatever story I'm using her in, anyway).
Chloe has alot of stuffed animals that were her only friends for the longest time.
Her favorite is this werid, bat-thingy that she named 'Charm'.
She, like Chad, is wary of the vks because of the things they were told about them from adults around them.
She was homeschooled unlike Chad.
She also never grows out of being bored by council meetings.
She has quite the collection of swords thanks to her parents spoiling her every chance she gets.
She is a sweet and friendly but competitive, athletic girl who just wants to make her kingdom and parents proud.
Though in any other situation she is shy and nervous. Mainly because she hasn't been away from home that often.
Her favorite song is 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams.
Chloe is quite good at sports as well as dancing and singing.
Her favorite dances are the waltz and the polka.
She has a pink and blue phone that she loves dearly.
Not as much as she loves fairies and flowers however.
When she was little she liked to play fairies, which was basically pretending to be a fairy, since of course she's heard all about the fairy that granted her mother's wish, and she knows FG and Jane. She's very close to Jane, sort of like Dizzy and Evie.
She was at the coronation when Maleficent showed up and that scared her into never leaving her home for like the next few years.
It took hours for her very frantic parents and brother to find her.
It took her ages to not be afraid of Dragons after this.
Chloe is a quick learner and loves school as well as reading.
She loves corn, chicken, toast, and porridge as well as hot chocolate. It's pretty much all she eats.
Her horse's name is 'Speedy'.
Her dog's name is Bailey and she is one of Bruno's litter.
Her favorite color is blue.
She was homeschooled until she was 10.
She met Red Hearts, Danny Darling, Hadie Olympian, and Maddox Hatter— her future best friends—not long after.
She considers Prudence, The Duke, The Baker, and Fg her aunts and uncles.
She also considers Jane and Eliza her cousins.
She doesn't get the whole 'magic being frowned upon' thing.
She named her dolly 'Jane' and never changed the name.
She loves parades and carousels as well as other festivals.
She adores Chad despite his flaws.
In a world where he disappears she never stops looking for him.
Her parents take her to them often when she's well enough.
Her earliest memory is of her, Chad, and their grandfather at the circus when she was a toddler.
She has a small pastel blue and pink bicycle with a bell, basket, tassels, tail lights, and brakes.
Christmas is her favorite holiday and her least favorite is Valentine's day.
She hates her parents and brother being sad.
Her 2nd favorite color is pink and her 3rd favorite is gold.
The kingdom loves her. As does anyone who meets her.
She is allergic to hair dye and strawberries.
Her favorite aunt is Anastasia.
She hates Drizella.
She likes her uncle Hans and his brothers and her other uncle, Jacob, though.
She thinks the world of her parents.
Chloe is also a fan of chickens and has several pet chickens that run around the castle.
She loves musicals and balls as well as water fountains.
She grows up to be a famous fencer and horse racer and becomes a seamstress before taking the crown when her parents die.
Like her grandfather before her, she adores chocolate, elephants, stewed prunes, romance, bird watching, fencing, and beaches.
She eventually gets a pet elephant when she is a teenager and names it 'Circus.'
She use to watch the birds and go to Circuses with her brother and grandfather.
She was devastated when her grandfather, Prudence, and the Duke died.
She ends up being a fine Queen like her grandmother before her and there are statues of her, her cousins, her brother, and her friends all around her kingdom years after their deaths.
Eventually, after Auradon falls, an ancestor of her cousin, Dizzy, builds a mansion where their castle once stood. And has a son named Fred. And that's how Big hero six plays out in the descendants universe.

Dragon Age Thoughts: Maddox
DAI had issues for me around the quest we meet him so I’m not sure if the sweetheart Samson was smuggling letters too is ever named. LEt me know if there is something I’m missing.
I was wondering about that actually- Being in the Gallows what opportunity did he have to fall in love with someone outside the Circle? What happened to this sweetheart after the Boom? Samson rescued Maddox, was the sweetheart dead, had they fled, or could they not bear to see Maddox tranquil?
Or....
or...
What if-
What if there was no lover Maddox had outside the Circle. What if smuggling letters was just an excuse he used to spend more time with Samson, because the paper birds were meant for Samson all along.

I wonder if they want to know what the future holds, as for right now, they are a COLLEGE STUDENT AT WHITMORE ? i’ve heard they can be pretty VOLATILE. how typical for a DRAGON. i guess they must rely on their DISCERNING side shining through. rumor has it they’re trying to hide THAT HE BURNT DOWN THE SALVATORE SCHOOL, but that’s probably just noise…

bio
contrary  to  popular  belief,  skylar  knows  who  their  birth  parents  are   -----  well,  almost.  they  know  their  mother  in  the  nebulous  sort  of  way  that  comes  from  second-hand  memories  and  stories.  he  has  a  name,  a  picture,  and  what  his  father  told  him  of  her.  she  was  a  dragon.  she  loved  the  rolling  stones.  she  didn’t  stick  around  to  raise  him.  safe  to  say,  they  don’t  think  too  much  about  her  (  a  lie.  he  feels  that  abandonment  even  now.  how  awful  a  thing  it  is  to  be  launched  into  space  by  the  one  person  who  might  have  understood  you  ).
comparatively,  his  relationship  with  his  father  was  much  more  complicated......or  maybe  simple.  it  depended  on  the  day.  you  see,  people  could  say  a  whole  lot  of  things  about  joel  augur,  but  none  of  them  could  be  that  he  didn’t  try.  raising  a  kid  wasn’t  all  flowers  and  sunshine.  raising  a  kid  who  could  set  the  goddamn  house  on  fire  when  he  didn’t  get  his  way  ?  yeah,  that  was  something  else  entirely.  but  he  did  it.  he  stood  by  and  loved  his  kid  in  spite  of  everything.  kept  him  safe.  kept  him  hidden.  was  a  good  father.  but  all  good  things  must  come  to  an  end.....if  you  ask  skylar  how  he  feels  about  having  a  dad  who’s  serving  a  life  sentence,  well,  your  stupidly  brave  or  suicidal.  and  honestly,  he  wouldn’t  know  what  to  say.  they  were  so  young  when  he  got  taken  away,  that  they  hardly  remember  a  time  before  it. most  memories  of  his  father  are  inside  those  four  walls,  in  those  uncomfortable  chairs,  under  the  watchful  eyes  of  the  prison  guards.  caroline  made  the  trek  with  him  and  filled  out  the  forms  every  month....at  least,  until  the  barrier  went  up.  then  it  was  only  painfully  short  phone  calls.
it  was  funny  how  it  only  took  a  few  months  in  the  foster  care  system  before  one  of  the  workers  swiftly  sent  them  the  way  of  alaric  saltzman  (  something  something  a  threat  to  himself  and  others.....  ).  it  could’ve  and  should’ve  been  worst.  by  the  time  they  made  an  appearance,  dorian  had  already  put  together  that  dragons  were  still  around  in  the  loosest  sense  of  the  word,  but  what  the  fuck  they  should  do  with  one  was  still  a  mystery.  he  ended  up  taking  a  stupid  amount  of  classes  with  the  werewolves  and  witches  (  temperamental AND breathes  fire  ? though,  no  one  really  had  any  proof  the  temperamental  thing  was  a  dragon  thing  and   not  just  a  skylar  thing.....  )  and  getting  one-on-one  training.  it  bored  them  to  death.  but  most  of  his  days  at  the  salvatore  school  were  spent  alone.  there  weren’t  exactly  many  kids  his  age  running  around  (  save  for  pedro  )  and  fewer  who  could  relate.  some  of  the  older  kids  tried  to  reach  out,  but  they  just  weren’t the  type  to  reach  back....but  the  salvatore  school  did  do  one  good  thing  for  him.
maybe  it  shouldn’t  come  as  a  surprise  that  he  hit  it  off  with  caroline  -----  she  always  did  have  a  thing  for  the  weirdly  dysfunctional.  at  eight  years  old,  skylar  was  closed  off  and  viciously  bitter.  too  angry  to  draw  people  in  close  but  made  all  the  worse  by  the  lack  of  connection.  it  was  obvious  that  something  needed  to  happen,  but  what  was  unclear.  enter  the  one  and  only  caroline  forbes.  she  took  him  under  her  wing,  gave  them  the  tools  they  needed  to  survive,  gave  him  a  home  and  a  family.  and  for  the  next  14  years,  they  were  content.  sure  they had  their  issues  (  a  fuck  ton  of  issues  )  but  they  had  gotten  better  at  working  through  them.
then  the  parents  fell  asleep.  suddenly,  things  were  a  lot  fucking  less  alright....but  they  had  siblings.  very  little,  very  dumb  and  vulnerable  siblings.  after  burning  down  the  salvatore  school  in  a  fit  of  anger  (  oops  ),  he  got  his  shit  together  to  help  lizzie  and  josie  raise  them.
and  then  ken....and  the  future  bullshit.  ugh.  but  for  the  time  being,  he’s  just  trying  to  keep  trying  to  keep  everyone  alive.  something  that’s  apparently  not  going  to  be  easy  given  their  mom’s  new  boyfriend  is  apparently  public  enemy  number  1  (  and  after  chronos....they're  thrilled,  really  ).
