if you remember this post (possible DA:D spoiler warning for link), 'PP1' returned the other day with another possible DA:D snippet of interest, under a cut due to possible DA:D spoilers:

first, the usual set of disclaimers that should be kept in mind with all leaks: might not be real, unable to verify at present, sometimes leakers think they’re right about things but are unintentionally incorrect or got some wires crossed, games change a fair bit between development phases and final release, take with grain of salt etc.

PP1: "Grey Warden Guardian seemed to be a subclass of the Warrior archetype, also includes Lords of Fortune Berserker and The Mourn Watch Reaper (magic based I think)." [update: post has now been removed from where it was made]

Notes/thoughts/wild speculation for fun: this would make 3 'subclasses' (maybe they mean specializations) of each 'archetype' (maybe they mean class)? this is how things were in DA:I. I guess "Grey Warden Guardian" refers to the elf character being played in the Reddit screenshot & gif leaks, who was described as a "knight" by the leaker and labelled some way as a "Grey Warden" in the character menu. Guardian was a warrior spec in DA:O, they have a focus on defense. Lords of Fortune have been speculated as a being faction in game, as the or a possible background of the PC, as a candidate for a companion character etc, and they're pretty neat, so that's cool. Berserker was a spec available to warriors in DA:O and DAII, so it would be making a return but with a Lord of Fortune twist?

The Mourn Watch part is pretty exciting tbh. Like the LoFs they've cropped up quite a bit recently and they are cool. (also "Reaper" just sounds super badass.. scythe mage staff or scythe warrior weapon pls..) I would've assumed the Mourn Watchers were all mages, being Mortalitasi, but I could totally see a 'magic warrior' working in there, either one who is technically a mage but who fights like an Arcane Warrior, or a warrior like a Spirit Warrior. Spirit Warriors "flirt with inhabitants of the Fade who agree to augment mortal abilities in exchange for a glimpse of the physical world". they're connected to the spirit world, can draw strength from benevolent spirits of the Fade and particularly harm creatures from the Fade. what if it's like that but specifically with the spirits that possess the dead, or in Nevarran belief the displaced spirits. perfect for a warrior who needs to guard and hang about necropolises & fight undead, and sorta necromancy-lite. :o)

maybe the general set up is something like: you pick background/faction and class, and each background/faction has a 'presence' in each class, so it determines the full combo, like this:

Grey Warden Warrior (guardian) - Grey Warden Rogue (?) - Grey Warden Mage (?)

Lord of Fortune Warrior (berserker) - Lord of Fortune Rogue (?) - Lord of Fortune (mage)

Mourn Watch Warrior (reaper) - Mourn Watch Rogue (?) - Mourn Watch mage (?)

🤔 or maybe you pick class at outset, and which 'subclass' you get is determined by which faction you join? how would traditional specializations fit in? maybe they don't mean specs and classes. curious :) anyways mourn watch aaaah. sign me up

edit: it's just occurred me that maybe "Reaper" is a typo of "Reaver" and Reaver is returning as a class ^^

TRUE BLOOD

TW: Spoilers if from season 1 to 5.

Im watching true blood for the first time, already in season five and I'm tired of simple lead female characters. At least I can say that Sookie has grown from season 1 to 5, which is a huge difference compare to the vast majority (and that makes me love her, because that's what, at least, I seek when watching a series: people growing and changing along the way, despite liking them or not) BUT...she's still so...stereotypically lead female prototype which biggest problem is keeping her love interests above all, and, once she rejects them all (which isn't pretty usual quite frankly) everything becomes unbearable to the point that there's nothing good in her, no inner support to make herself inherently interesting. She has so much potential and I hope they end up giving that to us. Pam, for example, has much more depth, complexity and more greys that gives her LIFE. Even her brother Jason. I want that in Sookie: the trouble-maker or trouble-seeker, the always-fucking-things-up to the point that she should be used to it...All the characters grow from their fucked up shit but her because all she is is a sweet love interest who can mind-read with fairy blood and superpowers and who's also madly (and blindly) in love with two vampires.

ALSO (like Im pretty aware that I'm spilling out my 2023 opinion on a 2000s tv show and only watching the first 5 seasons, but that's all it is: a personal opinion, plus, I'm really enjoying the show) more LGBTQA+ please? More gays, more lesbians, more bisexual, trans, asexuals, and yes...I LOVE Lafayette, he's one of my favs. But c'mon, we're in the supernaturalish vampire world where they want to fuck everybody, and orgies, blood and murder and raw eroticism like...are you really telling me that there's barely nothing to none freaking LGBTQA+ couples, interests, scenes?

AND VERY IMPORTANT TOO: I need more werewolves for fuck sake, I love werewolves...I can't even understand how the fuck Sookie didn't fall for Alcide (like damn gurl, do you have EYES?). They're also pretty animalistic and rough in their own way and have a lot lof lore, they can add a lot too so don't be shy about it.

tbh anon I hate it, which as you can imagine does make going into the Sun Wukong tag as it currently stands an unpleasant experience lmao. For me it's not just the discomfort coming from the frankly bizarre extent to which the lego show writers and fandom seems hellbent on rewriting & ignoring literally everything about the true and false monkey king arc and the Six-Eared Macaque's og role as Sun Wukong's doppelganger and all the interesting things you could do with that, but honestly that ship for me is yet another embodiment of the extent to which fandoms and then canon works will break a story in half to push a relationship forward no matter what. At this juncture it genuinely feels like almost every one of the Monkey King's relationships in both the og classic and the show itself have been undermined, destroyed, or just flat-out erased in the service of making LEMH his bfffff forever (kind of). Because now it's been established that Monkie Kid Sun Wukong not only was pretty much as selfish and destructive an idiot as Macaque has frequently claimed, BUT ALSO that he never even had a monkey yaoguai family in the first place. And for what. So that he and a guy who's every other line is about how much he sucks won't try to kill each other on sight I guess!

If I remember correctly you said you joined the fandom or started the reading the manga around, what, chapter 74? Or something like that, right? So you weren't around for the first arc, when you were watching or reading the first arc, did you manage to avoid spoilers because I wonder what you though of Levi and Erwin lol I was around for the first arc and I remember so many people found Erwin and Levi sus and thought one of them or both would turn out to be the villain lol I don't remember why people found Levi sus but a lof of people were convinced that Erwin was hiding something. Now looking back, lol Erwin and Levi together would be too OP against Paradis hahahaha

Yep, that's right, I came to the fandom at the end of 2015, round about chapter 74 (I think). I watched season 1, then ACWNR, then read the manga, then watched the anime again. I wasn't particularly invested in Erwin or Levi the first time I watched S1, it was only after I watched ACWNR and more specifically read the manga that I fell hard for Eruri. I mean it's pretty much unavoidable! I made no attempt to avoid spoilers, quite the opposite, I sought out every bit of information I could find about Erwin and Levi. I really loved the anticipation of spoilers dropping every month, it's one of the things I miss most since the manga ended.

I do remember people finding Erwin a bit sus in the early days, particularly fans who only watched the anime, and tbh, I don't blame them. S1 Erwin is too smart or his own good and a bit of blank character-wise. Even in the manga his character doesn't really start to develop until the Uprising Arc. Also tbf to those fans, Erwin was hiding something. It's just that the thing he was hiding was the terrible burden of his dream, and not some nefarious plot to betray humanity or whatever. Though he did overthrow the government, I'll give him that lol.

My thoughts on The First Slam Dunk part 2

NOT spoiler-free

So I said the movie was really well thought out in part 1, Ryota's backstory gives his character a lot of depth and also brings us a new understanding of his struggles. I like how Inoue portrays his relationships with other regulars in the movie as well (Hanamichi, Akagi, particularly Micchi, and even Yasuda)

But then, Rukawa stood out like a sore thumb.

Before I saw the movie, I did read some spoiler-free reviews on Twitter and Tumblr. And a lot of people complained that Rukawa didn't have a lof of screen time, which struck me as odd cuz I didn't think so at all. But then, after I sat with it for a few days, I finally realized what the problem was.

It was because there is zero chemistry between Miyagi and Rukawa. Now in the manga it makes sense since Rukawa doesn't talk to anyone, and this also serves as a subplot for the story (that Shohoku, as a team, has to learn to work it out to improve their tacit understanding). We understand who Rukawa is THANKS TO Hanamichi's pov. Because Hanamichi is the protagonist, we see very clearly what Rukawa is trying to say (to Hanamichi), why he says it that way (Hanamichi is dumb), why he does certain things (to help Hanamichi)

But because Hanamichi isn't the protagonist in the movie, Rukawa is alienated in Ryota's pov (Rukawa and Ryota really have no chemistry lol). They tried to add ONE conversation between the two, however, this conversation does very little (in which Ryota only says that he wants to see Sawakita's face when he's defeated, and Rukawa says, me too). It cannot be compared what Ryota/Akagi or Ryota/Micchi share. So an audience might have a hard time connecting with Rukawa ("he's barely in it" simply because he doesn't contribute much to Ryota's story).

Of course he does have the final showdown with Sawakita, but this is cut down to bare minimum (which is understandable, the movie can't be 5 hour long). All of important stuff about how he has to learn to pass is left out (the kind of player he was prior to joining Shohoku, his conversation with Sendoh, AND him asking coach Anzai for an advice). Not only that, his smile (Sawakita's smile for Rukawa as well) was changed (I will talk about this in part 3 or 4). These two smiles are actually SIGNIFICANT but because the movie has to focus on Ryota so we don't get to see the importance of Rukawa and Sawakita's smiles for each other.

In short, Rukawa is the one that suffers the most from this change in pov because he is the deuteragonist counterpart TO the protagonist Sakuragi Hanamichi, and not Ryota or any other character.

Mumbo and Grian are well known monster hunters, the dynamic deadly duo who get the job done. One day however, Mumbo was proclaimed dead in a fight against a hoard of vampires, leaving Grian to weigh the burden of Mumbo's supposed death on his shoulder. (Spoiler alert: he's not dead)

Ever since mumbo's passing, Grian has grown to DESPISE vampires and always show them no mercy towards vampires. When he's been given the bounty on a Scar, he was out for his head on a stake.

When they meet for the first time, Grian absolutely didn't hesitate to charge at Scar until he was restrained by a familiar mustachioed old friend, who is now a vampire.

Turns out mumbo was saved by Scar just inches away from his death by making mumbo the undead aka a vampire and now mumbo sort of works for Scar because mumbo doesn't really have any other place to go and just has no clue what to do with his new life as a vampire.

Grian reconciles with mumbo but is still very weary about Scar, sometimes giving Scar the stink eye and clings on to Mumbo when he's around. But really he's not sure if he's jealous of scar, or he's trying to be a little shit *cough* gettingscarsattention *cough*.

I mean they all work out eventually from there because Mumbo likes Grian, but also he likes Scar too and also he's sort of the guy that saved his life lol. Grian's view on monsters changes when he later finds out that there are just monsters who live normal lives behind the shadows, and Grian later grows a soft spot for scar as he starts getting to know him better.

YESYES LOVE IT In this idea- what if- Mumbo and Scar were the ones dating first. (gonna say its been over a year since Mumbo's supposed death, that gives Scar an Mumbo a lof of time to get to know eachother and fall in love) anyways-- Mumbo though, still really likes Grian, so when they run into each other again (albeit its cuz Grian tryna kill Scar) Mumbo is overjoyed. He explains everything, even at the end kinda sorta lets it slip that him and Scar a thing Grian is jealous 1000% so jealous LOL Grian's definitely got mumbo's attention, he likes mumbo right back but.. Scar (Grian is not immune to good times) ultimately, Grian is confused why he loves both mumbo and scar (poly panic)

Two or three Degrassi couples most fans really like who you're meh or ugh about 3. Two or three Degrassi couples most fans don't like much who you love (spoiler alert: my answer for this one would be Jenna/Connor...please don't hate me! The underwear thing was a horrific choice by the writers, but otherwise I love both lof them individually and together so much. It's so lovely to see someone 'on the spectrum' in a loving romantic relationship, and imo he is actually who she needs and deserves after KC!) 4. Your top seven female Degrassi characters? 5. Your top seven male Degrassi characters? 6. If you could choose to bring just three Degrassi characters back from the dead, who would they be?! Enjoy - I can't wait to see your answers...and feel fere to mock me for loving Jonnor ;)

Unpopular opinions:

1.) While I don't ship Spinner and Emma, their marriage is far from the worst thing Degrassi ever did. The timing made it all very questionable, but it seemed like Spinner and Emma found each other at just the right time. If not for the marriage itself, I don't think most would have such a big problem with them ending up together. Even though Emma's relationship with Sean was far more popular, in a lot of ways I actually think Emma and Spinner were more compatible. Maybe not for most of their run on Degrassi, but definitely during their last four seasons or so. If there's ever a reboot and those three characters return, I don't want to see Sean and Emma ending up together unless the writing can justify it. But based on how their relationship was written during season 6, I doubt they could.

2.) The definition of suicide is the act or instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally. Therefore, Zig couldn't have murdered Cam and bears no culpability in his death. This shouldn't be an unpopular opinion, but I still hear this ignorance on a monthly basis. It's been almost eleven years. This is ridiculous.

3.) Nine times out of ten, Ashley is correct and 100% in the right. It's just that many fans find her boring and she's consistently pitted against more popular characters played by more charismatic actors (Craig, Jimmy, Manny, Paige). This includes but isn't limited to Ashley dumping Jimmy because he was being passive aggressive and admitted to only considering her attractive on the inside as well as wanting to record and pursue music independently of Jimmy.

4.) Even though I prefer Drianca, the Clare/Drew relationship was one of the best written and executed ships during the later seasons. The writers did a fantastic job building up their feelings for each other and showing how they balanced each other out. It was a complete copout to drop their relationship entirely just so that Clare could end up with her slut shaming, misogynistic, emotionally abusive, overrated ex.

Popular couples I don't ship:

1.) Miles/Lola (They fucked once while his boyfriend was in a coma. Lola's whole thing was not wanting to be someone's second choice. Miles did the same "You're the only one that understands me" song and dance with four different love interests)

2.) Eli/Clare (See my fourth unpopular opinion or just watch seasons 10-14)

3.) Cam/Maya (They're sweet for what they are and I loved Maya's arc, but overall it was a very brief relationship that left Maya with a lot of trauma and negative feelings towards Cam. Also, Zaya was right there. That made it impossible to invest in them)

Unpopular couples I ship:

1.) Clare/Drew (once again, see unpopular opinion #4)

2.) Dave/Alli (Dave was actually a good character and deserves twice as much nostalgia and appreciation as Johnny DiMarco gets for doing the bare minimum. No, they weren't perfect, but Dave unlike most Degrassi cheaters put in the work and effort to win back his ex's trust. I think they loved each other. The timing was just wrong and to be honest, they probably weren't meant to be)

3.) Tristan/Miles (To be honest, I'm currently having some complicated feelings about these two due to being in the middle of a Next Class rewatch and being forced to realize the biphobia was even worse than I'd remembered. But, the simple fact I still technically ship them and the response to admitting you do in the present day is frothing at the mouth and shame means they should be included. For what it's worth, I liked them in season 13, enjoyed the potential in 14, and have positive memories of their second relationship)

Nooooo! Jonnor is amazing! They're one of the sweetest, purest couples on Degrassi. Connor struggled to understand social norms and handled his hormones in a questionable way, but he also didn't have the guidance at the time to figure that out. He left Degrassi to get a grasp on that, so I think it's forgivable. We see during Connor's relationship with Jenna that he's learned a lot and is overall a very respectful, considerate boyfriend to Jenna. I also strongly agree that Jenna deserved better than KC.

I'm not Chinese by any means, I only happen to be a student who loves this song very very much for its nuances and symbolism and it always makes me so happy to see a fandom I like has gotten an edit to this song. This post is an attempt to get more like-minded people to appreciate it! All the translations are from here where you can read even deeper to the lyrics and learn the background of the song. 2. I will be posting screenshots from the edit that correspond significantly to the song lyrics for those who'd like some help with noticing the parallels. Again, and obviously, this means SPOILERS! Don't proceed if you don't want to be spoiled. A ferry transportation wouldn't be done in an area with deep mountains, it requires a flat and calm body of water. Lotuses don't bloom in the snow-falling season. Aka this means two things that are star-crossed. Hence: 🥲

夕阳熬红双眼想等来晨钟聊聊天- Setting sun waits till its eyes turned red, hoping it can chat with morning bell Again, the setting sun cannot meet the morning bell. The vidder has used a scene of Ruan Lanzhu sitting with his eyes closed on a bench, waiting for Jiushi- it's not that specific so I'm not including a screenshot.

心上人在梅边柳边偏不在身边- Person on heart is by plum or willow, but not by (the person singing the song)

A Hongloumeng reference to say that your beloved is not by you but elsewhere, see the link above for more details. -A scene of Jiushi patting Lanzhu's shoulder and going away for a door challenge while Lanzhu stands agonized-

小白蛇浇透临安许仙却没带伞- Little white snake is drenched in the rain of Lin An, but Xu Xian forgets to bring an umbrella

From the legend of White Snake and Xu Xian, they meet on a rainy day and Xu Xian gives White Snake an umbrella. Here, the lyrics say he forgot aka things didn't happen the way they should've.

-The clip chosen for this line is more happy because they both got to use the umbrella hehe-

少女压坏秋千书生十年落选- Young girl crushes the swing, scholar fails at exams for ten years

A little girl on a swing and a scholar who passes the exams are nice things to imagine, but the lyrics say the contrary happened. The edit shows scenes from the case of the bullied school girl and the classmate who betrayed her, who both had their youths ruined. :(

命运总是挑挑拣拣诸事不成全- Fate is always picky and things just can’t be fulfilled

-Scenes from the first case (snow village), not using screenshots because the line itself isn't very specifc and therefore neither is the scene-

小和尚没化到缘又路过烧鸭店- Little monk doesn’t get offerings, then happens to walk by a roasted duck shop

Describes a situation where your life sucks and then some more.

-The scene of the little beggar fainting from the Child trafficking case put in contradiction with the scene of Jiushi enjoying skewers with Xiong Qi.-

The chorus:

拈杯酒眯着眼说专心看人间- Pinching a cup of wine and squinting eyes, saying (I/you/whoever) is looking at the human real with full concentration

The song is advising you to take a cup of wine, let go and just observe the world around you. Scenes of Lanzhu and Jiushi having swigs/sips of drinks is followed by them happily gazing up at New Year fireworks. It's pretty self explanatory.

看长安建安与潘安都想沾一沾- (seeing) Chang’an Jian An and Pan’An, wanting to touch them all

Chang'an was an ancient Chinese capital, Jian'an was a literaty gathering, Pan'an was a historical man who was famous for his beauty and loyalty to his wife (the character Liu Xueyi's was modelled upon for the recently aired drama In Blossoms🤭) aka these three things are unrelated except for rhyming. So it's basically like saying "You want this, you want that too" and to just chill and embrace it all; your mortal desires and sorrows.

The scenes used are from the night street celebrations from the Child trafficking case, and are not specific to the line except for that the aesthetics match that of Chang'an night scenary in Tang dynasty period dramas. (And maybe Jiushi staring at Li Dongyuan's handsome face refers to the Pan'an part heh)

神仙掐指算此去少圆满- Gods making predictions, this trip shall lead to little fulfillment 得来失聚了散千万莫求全- Losing what has been found, parting after reunion, don’t try to aim for perfection at all

Means that sometimes gains and loses just cannot be helped.

-Scenes of Li Dongyuan's last moments- 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

借泥炉烧碗饭在檐上种炊烟- Borrowing earth stove to make meal, planting cooking smoke on the top of the eave

-cooking scenes from the show, self-explanotory-

管小寒大寒与心寒都来暖一暖- No matter if it’s Small Cold, Big Cold, Or heart cold, all come over and warm up

Xiao Han and Da Han are two of the wintry solar terms of traditional Chinese calendar. Heart Cold is; well, having lost hope and being unhappy. The song tells you to get together and warm yourself up whether your coldness is external or internal.

好提胆闯人海再叩风月关- So that you can build up the courage and venture into the crowd, knocking on the door of profanity (of life) Now this line may look simple but is really iconic to the show. It means to build up your guts [lit:gallbladder] (through the power of the warmth from forming bonds as mentioned above), so you can go out and enjoy all the beautiful romantic things in life, and bravely knock on the doors (HA) of each levels of life as you go. The scenes used are Lanzhu and Jiushi marching into door challenges, them sitting and enjoying quiet moments together, and DOORS. Bejeezus...

兜兜转转八十一难我们走着看- Around and around through 81 tribulations, we shall see how it goes Another cleverly utilized line. 81 tribulations are what the main characters underwent in Journey to the West in order to bring the Buddhist texts, and if you've finished Spirealm, you know the 12 doors are inspired by the 12 links in the Law of Dependent Origin of Buddhist philosophy. In simpler words, the 12 links are the reasons for your mundane sorrows, longings and confusion, and 81 tribulations are the hardships you undergo because of them. The core scene used is Jiushi completing the 12 doors of the game, followed by the friend gang badass-strutting into the case scenes, fitting for the part "let's see how it goes".

竹马去寻竹马青梅意兴阑珊- Bamboo horse goes searching for bamboo horse, blue plum feels discouraged

Now this is my FAVORITE line 😆 I always love to see what the vidders do with this part when this song is used on a BL edit. This comes from the famous poem line, “郎骑竹马来，绕床弄青梅”:” boy comes on a bamboo horse, circling around the bed and playing with plum branch”. It refers to boys and girls who are meant to be each others' since childhood. But sometimes, the bamboo horse (boy) doesn't go for a blue plum (girl), and will seek another bamboo horse instead, yeah?
