Blood Like Fate by Liselle Sambury
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Voya has finally become a witch and passed her Calling, but it has come at a steep price. Her grandmother is dead, her cousin hates her, and now she must lead her family as their Matriarch. While struggling with her newfound gifts, she has a vision of the future that includes her former boyfriend, Luc. How will she protect her family and the witch community from this deadly premonition, and will she have to take down the boy she loves to do it?
It was so great to be returning to finish this series. I loved the characters and their complexities, and felt like it was a purposeful and well thought out plot. There were parts in the middle that felt like the book was dragging, then a huge plot point would hit and get me sucked back in! It is hard to write a great sequel and this book definitely checked all the boxes. If you’re looking for a good witchy book read the Blood Like duology!

I finished it up during a ride and if it wasn't because of my family in there, I might bawl my eyes out 😭 This book is creepy and atmospheric but not that scary. The real scary part of this book for me is about childhood trauma, dark pasts, sinister secrets, and toxic parents. All of them mixing with supernatural elements are just perfect! This book has depth!!! 🙌 Thank you so much to @hearourvoicestours & @simonteen for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review and having me on this tour ❤️ -Fasya- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - #HearOurVoices #HOV #DeliciousMonsters #BookRecs #BookReviews #ReadWithMe #NewBookAlert #NewRelease #YAhorror #HorrorBooks  #sistahscifi #LiselleSambury (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpQU4xbP5MT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 ⭐️BOOK TOUR⭐️ ❓Do you enjoy stories with haunted houses? I love when a book lives up to the promise of its cover! Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury is both creepy and suspenseful. Told with a dual timeline, Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury is a YA contemporary horror with a teenage girl who can see ghosts, a mother with a mysterious past, and a house with a big appetite. (Scroll image for the full synopsis.) Sambury skillfully weaves together two stories, patiently delivering bits of information to build the suspense. The author’s eerie setting descriptions bring the book to life, maintaining an unsettling gothic atmosphere. I especially loved how the natural beauty of the mansion’s property puts Daisy on edge. Is she uncomfortable in the “bush” because she’s a city girl, or is there really something to fear? There is much to love about this book beyond the paranormal. The two plotlines sensitively connect the lives of Daisy and Brittney through similar life experiences. Both have raised themselves, yet struggle to be truly independent. They have also experienced trauma that makes them unable to trust anyone to help or care for them. (Be sure to check out the author’s trigger warnings on her website.) Strong character development provides emotional depth which anchors the story. Both Daisy and Brittney are young women that you want to succeed. It’s clear that a lot of care went into creating the secondary characters too. The endearing King, mysterious Ivy, and ambitious Jayden all have their own secrets and goals. Finally, this isn’t just a paranormal horror story, but one that draws from real life headlines. Or rather a lack of headlines. It’s a commentary on the media and how victimized and missing Black girls are so often ignored and forgotten. You can pick up your own copy of Delicious Monsters on February 28th! Thank you to @simonteen and @turnthepagetours for providing this eARC for review. #deliciousmonsters #lisellesambury #turnthepagetours #ttpt #ireadya #yahorror #yasuspense #bookreview #bookrecommendations #booktours #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Co2mZY5h8Tf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

"People love the trauma. They adore a chance to tell a Black woman how strong she is. More than that, she represents an out. A way for people to cleanse themselves of their past and come out shiny and new." Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury is out 2/28/2023 and I highly recommend you pre-order or pick up a copy on pub day!. This book is a thick one but I devoured it in two days. Sambury's blending of horror and the supernatural with true crime, suspense and social issues was brilliant. I could not put this one down even when I stayed up late at night and had goosebumps from terror and dread. I was invested in the mystery and ghosts from the first page. Sambury captured my attention with the ways that she wove relevant themes into the horror and mystery. Both protagonists' perspectives showcased how media capitalizes on Black female trauma despite there being an epidemic of forgotten Black girls. The theme of monsters is prevalent throughout, both real and metaphorical. Sambury also touches on grooming, sexual assault, childhood abuse, fatphobia and the scars of other traumatic events that span generations and shape futures. Sambury shows through this book how whitewashed forms of media scream for diverse stories and engage in performative allyship. The writing style is atmospheric and the fast pace will have your heart pounding. The ghosts will have you question what you think you know and you'll be glued to the pages until everything unravels. There are so many spine tingling moments and the moments of terror feel so realistic. If you're looking for a fresh, new style of telling a ghost story with gripping storytelling that will have you on the edge of your seat, then look no further. Someone give Liselle Sambury her flowers because this one is a banger from start to finish. Thanks to @simonteen and @hearourvoicestours for the gifted copy. #DeliciousMonsters #LiselleSambury #HearOurVoices #HOV #horror #tbr #bookstagram #bookstagrammers #bookrecommendation #reading #igreads #20booksbyblackwomen #YAbooks #bookphotography #horrorgram #IreadYA #bookish #bookreviews #horrorbooks #fiction #ReadCaribbean #ghoststory #YAlit #bookinfluencer #literature #book https://www.instagram.com/p/CoBLYqBLExk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

book review. 🤍🖤
(non spoilers)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
i’ll admit blood like magic had a bit of a slow start, but once i got into the thick of this book the complexity of this story really got me hooked. so much that i stayed up late last night just to finish it! and now i am dying to know what happens in the sequel blood like fate which is out now but only in hardback (and my ocd will only let me have book series that coordinate).
the best word i would use to describe this book would be ‘contrasting.’ it effortlessly weaves the past with the future, old magic with new technology, and tells a gripping story about a girl and a boy starting out as enemies and turning into lovers. I highly recommend this book, but will caution that throughout there is mention of death and some very descriptive scenes of blood.
+: LGBTQ+ representation, black and brown character representation
-: slow start, some futuristic terminology was confusing

Hey guys! I just finished this book today and am writing the review. I was completely exhausted yesterday, so I couldn’t read a single page, but I’m glad I was able to finish it on time. I’ve never been this tardy before, but I’ve learnt my lesson now. I’ll try not to postpone reading books from now on. Definitely cut it too close, but phew! 𝔸𝕦𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕣 𝕊𝕡𝕠𝕥𝕝𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥- What has been your favorite debut novel that you've read this year? I feel like 2021 has been an amazing year for books so far-- I mean I say that every year but is that really relevant? On the blog today, I am so excited to welcome @lisellesambury to talk about her debut novel: Blood Like Magic. Thank you to @simonandschuster for working with me to make this Q&A happen. Head over to the blog to see what Liselle has to say about Voya's story full of magic, family, and just a little romance. Also be sure to check out the synopsis of Blood Like Magic below!
