I randomly saw that Lisa Welchel from The Facts of Life was on Survivor 11 years ago??? That’s so random. Especially since she basically retired from acting to have a family right after TFOL was over, 24 years earlier. I was just like, ok I need to watch this. And so I watched a few eps. She said she gets recognized pretty often but she was hoping to not get recognized by any of the players in case it would be a detriment. One guy, who was around the same age as her, recognized her right away, so she asked him not to tell anyone else. Of course the 20-somethings had no idea bc TFOL ended before some of them were born. One of them referred to her as “the sweet church lady” a few episodes in 😂

Facts of Life Does a Covert Gay Episode With Cousin Geri
“Cousin Geri” (December 24, 1980)
Fun game for listeners: Take a shot every time Drew mentions the phrase “gigantic bitch” in connection with Lisa Welchel’s Blair, who is in rare form this episode as she shuns her disabled cousin Geri for reasons that aren’t the ones you’re probably assuming. In this discussion, we bring up why Geri Jewell is a trailblazer as far as being queer and also one other thing and also why “actress recurring on Deadwood” is lowkey code for lesbian.
Erin Fletcher, we want you back for that Saved by the Bell episode.

New Instruments -- Part II
New Instruments — Part II

New Instruments — Part II The piano. The trombone. The harmonica.
The Piano
Well before, and sandwiched in between my learning to play the baritone ukulele or classical guitar, were the good intentioned desires of my mother that I learn to play the piano.
I was probably somewhere between five and seven years old.
Dad had bought a mid-sized Mason & Hamlin grand piano from a friend who needed the…

You Light Up My Christmas (Lifetime, 2019)
Boys and girls, you must use your whole body when expressing yourself!
Starring: Kim Fields, Adrian Holmes, Lisa Welchel, Mindy Cohn
Plot Synopsis: Inspired by true events, Emma returns to her hometown built around her family's pioneer Christmas Light Factory two weeks before Christmas. However upon Emma's return, she discovers the lights have gone dim in the once festive town, prompting her to reconnect with an old flame to set their hearts and the town ablaze with light again. (x)
In My Humble Opinion: You Light Up My Christmas was advertised as a Facts of Life reunion, which probably means something for other people but means nothing to me. I spent my college years scouring the internet for Living Single episodes personally, so if Kim Fields wanted to hook me into watching her property and being like “Five Stars!!!” then Erika Alexander and Kim Coles would have shown up in supporting roles. That’s how you hook me with a nostalgia play!
Then again, if you are not going to hook me with a nostalgia play you can hook me with wacky wardrobe choices and there are so many in You Light Up My Christmas. Take a look at this hat:
Tumblr media
This hat is a masterpiece. This hat is why you drink wine and watch Christmas movies.
There is also this winter wear outfit which would not be out of the place on The Nanny, it’s so magnificent.
Tumblr media
And the wacky wardrobe choices aren’t just for Kim Fields. Others get in on the wackiness as well. Take note of this hippie ensemble employed by Lisa Welchel:
Tumblr media
Groovy. It’s all so ridiculous and fun and these outfits are the kind of little details that makes you want to crack open a wine bottle and just kick back and enjoy yourself, which is what I did.
I’m still stressed and a little overwhelmed, but I would like to thank the wardrobe department of You Light Up My Christmas and my bottle of Apothic wine for getting me back into the lighthearted frame of mind I needed to have to write about these movies. We aren’t here to take it seriously! We are here to enjoy the wacky choices and Winter Storm Meghan shout-outs along the way! I mean look at this coat:
Tumblr media
That’s the reason for the season.
Watch If: You want a medium sized tree, if you start your carol singing with “Deck the Halls” or if you don’t need fancy, you just need napkins and hot sauce.
Skip If: You don’t think everything looks prettier in the snow, if you don’t think having whipped cream makes you a champion, or if you’re single because you’re busy.
Final Rating:  ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

Mindy Cohn on 'The Facts of Life' Reboot and Her Charity Work
[powerpress]
My podcast episodes aren’t usually very newsworthy or timely but this week is an exception. Just days after I recorded my interview with Mindy Cohn, news broke about the very thing we discussed-a Facts of Life reboot or reunion.  It wasn’t the main reason why I wanted to interview her but it came up in our conversation and what she told me was surprising.
Apparently Leonardo…

I was too busy to watch last night’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes on ABC.  So, I’m watching it now on Hulu.  I wasn’t happy about the kid/teen characters being played by 40/50/60-somethings, but I knew I wanted to give it a try, as I like these old sitcoms and I enjoyed the first special (somehow, I missed the second).  I just started and I’m about to cry watching Lisa Welchel in Blair’s Eastland uniform singing The Facts of Life theme song.  And then joined by Mindy Cohn and Kim Fields.

Flopcast 395: Snowmen and Snow Misers - Talking Rankin/Bass with Rick Goldschmidt
New Post has been published on https://esonetwork.com/flopcast-395-snowmen-and-snow-misers-talking-rankin-bass-with-rick-goldschmidt/
Flopcast 395: Snowmen and Snow Misers - Talking Rankin/Bass with Rick Goldschmidt
Tumblr media
Flopcast episode 395! It’s a special show to ring in the goofy holidays, featuring our interview with official Rankin/Bass historian Rick Goldschmidt! You know Rankin/Bass. It’s the legendary animation studio that produced all those classic holiday shows, starting with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 1964. Lots more wonderful cartoons followed, including Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town (which gave us Burgermeister Meisterburger), The Year Without a Santa Claus (which gave us the Heat Miser and Snow Miser), ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (that’s the one with the mice and the clocks), and yes, Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. Beyond the holiday specials, Rankin/Bass was also responsible for Mad Monster Party, The Hobbit, The Last Unicorn, ThunderCats, and so much more. Rick’s first book, The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass, is an invaluable resource for nerds like us, and his latest book celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Frosty the Snowman. Here on the Flopcast, Rick discusses the amazing talents behind the scenes at Rankin/Bass, many of whom he knew and worked with, including: character designers (and Mad magazine artists) Jack Davis and Paul Coker, Jr.; voice actors Paul Soles (Hermey the elf!), Bradley Bolke (Jangle the elf!), and Larry Storch (come on, LARRY STORCH!); composer Maury Laws; writer Romeo Muller; and the guys who started it all, Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass. Also discussed: Rick’s experience as a guest this year at DragonCon, his picks for a couple of lesser-known Rankin/Bass projects we should all see, and his appearance on the TV show Collector’s Call with Lisa Welchel! (That’s right, Blair from The Facts of Life. You know we needed details.) Also this week: A holiday concert (and a new holiday EP) from Boston alt-rock legends Letters to Cleo, Speedy Ortiz, Grant’s Advent Calendar, and Marisa Tomei. (Frosty would have a special message for Marisa: Happy Birthday.)

I started Facts of Life over again from season 2, and I’m near the end of season 3 again, and I’m actually thinking that for the first 4ish seasons, Blair might be my favorite character. That character has the potential to be really insufferable, but Lisa Welchel is actually kinda funny as hell with her line delivery and facial expressions a lot of the time.

Note
I just have to get this off my chest, but Sasha reminds me so much of Lisa welchel (blair from facts of life). Gorgeous blonde it girl, super likeable, had weight issues, background in the church, got married real young. Nowadays Lisa is divorced after saying she got married too young to a pastor her parents approved. She went on survivor, kicked ass, got a nose piercing and wears flannel now. You're welcome for these useless facts (of life) 101.
I think I actually remember this girl but I’m not totally sure. Maybe that’s potentially how Sasha’s life will play out, maybe not. We shall see lmao.

Episode 1 thoughts!
Hello all! I am here post-premiere, ready to share.
Right off the bat, I’m annoyed that Survivor continues to kick off the season with the marooning. It was symbolic and meaningful when it was thrown in sporadically, but every season now? It’s boring! Give me a challenge on the first day! Stephanie LaGrossa didn’t dislocate her shoulder for nothing!
Now, I love and live for Ms. Kelley Wentworth, but I don’t like her pairing off with Lauren right away; I think that was an immediate error and gave her a bigger target. As Wendy said, couples are dangerous, and I would hate to see Wentworth get knocked out for something like that.
Yes, Reem organizing and laying out everyone’s clothes was good intentioned. However! People don’t like when people touch their stuff! I sensed a little Lisa Welchel there, with a handful of confrontation.
Joe really just can’t help but be the best? His overachiever self is going to be his downfall! He can’t put down the ‘Joey Amazing’ persona, can he? I’m afraid he’s gonna take Aubry down with him.
I think the best player this episode had to be Wendy. I give this to her because she was on the block, right next to Reem, and she managed to pull ahead and stay in the game without voting out her ally. She didn’t cower and change her vote when David and ‘Wardog’ cornered her; she stuck up for her alliance! You go Wendy!
On the note of Edge of Extinction...I’m getting some lowkey Redemption Island/Cook Island Exile vibes here! I really hope the new twist doesn’t flop, but I guess we’re just gonna have to see what it actually is. Potential for sure, though!

Celebrities Respond to the Passing of Charlotte Rae (A.K.A. Mrs. Garrett)
Tumblr media
When news spread of Charlotte Rae's passing, celebrities hit the social media outlet to share their grief and fond memories of the 92-year-old. Charlotte Rae is best known for her role as Mrs. Edna Garrett on "The Facts of Life," where she brought wisdom, kindness and generosity to a generation of kids. The role originated on "Different Strokes," where she was housekeeper for Mr. Drummond (Conrad Bain) and his children Kimberly (Dana Plato), Willis (Todd Bridges) and Arnold (Gary Coleman). Cast members of "Facts of Life," Lisa Welchel (Blair), Kim Fields (Tootie), Mindy Cohn (Natalie) along with many other celebrities, including the only living cast member of "Different Strokes," Todd Bridges, spoke out about the women who shaped a generation as Mrs. Garrett.
