The sacrificial nature of childhood is terribly evident: children exist so that parents, doctors, and other caregivers can act and identify themselves as nurturers, protectors, benefactors. The paradox is that once the children recognize their importance to their parents and other caregivers and decide to maintain the pretense, they become protectors themselves and an ironic role reversal is effected. Who is needy, who gives? The parents and doctors in Bluebond-Langner's study are depicted as caring, or attempting to care, for the children in primarily physical terms, while they are less aware and even neglectful of the children's psychic and emotional well-being; conversely, the children are uncannily aware of their parents' and doctors' emotional and psychological needs. Children's fear of physical abandonment by adults on whom they vitally depend binds them to the implicit agreement not to admit the truth of their mortality. Adults' fragility and neediness can imprison their dependent children.

sigh. the weather is absolutely kicking my ass AND i am vitamin d deficient again so i am EXHAUSTED. getting my 2k words in is gonna be a bitch

#she bork #tbd #my thumbs hurt so so bad bc i've sprained them so many times i have bone spurs and the weather is very rainy and damp so it's making them #hurt real bad. the rest of my body hurts too (like my right knee gets it really bad even though i've never injured it??) but my thumbs are #by far the worst. which unfortunately i will need those for typing. as for the vitamin d lol i ran out of my vitamin d gummies and w rent #coming up and my bank fucking me mercilessly i don't have the money rn to buy more. i'm gonna have to wait until payday next friday. it just #sucks bc i like can hardly stay awake when i'm deficient in vitamin d like back before i had my labwork done and found out i was deficient i #used to sleep 12-14 hours a day and STILL be fucking tired when i was awake. feels like i'm wasting my fucking life. anyway so yes i'm #suffering but nonetheless we persevere and i will still get my words in. i just might fall asleep immediately afterwards

btw 40k words today!!!! i originally estimated this work to be roughly 60k at the end of the first draft but now i think it will be longer. bc most of the juiciest parts of the story are still ahead of me so there's no way i have 2/3 of my total words already written

#she bork #novel 2024 #still feels like it is going SO slow bc i barely made any ground plot-wise today but i'm also really trying to give this project space and #time to breathe and air out; and i'm also being very firm about not going too crazy on daily words (most i've done in one day so far is 2.7k #and i don't think i'd let myself do more than 3k in a day) bc i really don't want to burn myself out. i want to stay consistent and steady #bc as soon as i start going 'well i wrote 4k yesterday so i can skip today i guess' i'm doomed. so i simply will not let it happen. but #still i'm impatient to edit!!!!!!!!!! ag whatever ik i'll get there. relax #ultimate goal is to be done w this manuscript's first draft by the end of may. and then start editing in like july after it has a couple of #months to stagnate so i can come back w fresh eyes
