Time slowed to a full stop around you as you focused, the chaos surrounding the silver tree all brought to a halt. Not even Pure Vanila Cookie or White Lily Cookie could move a singular fiber of their being. Such is the perks of having Dungeon Master Cookie as your patron. And, speaking of your patron, she stared down at you with her huge, white eyes. " So, the seal upon the silver tree has broken, thus releasing the five Fallen Heroes into the land of Earthbread once more. Now, Reader Cookie, I suspect you want to do something before I have you roll initiative, yes?" " That's correct, Dungeon Master Cookie." You reply, staring up at the holy, towering figure. However all the seriousness of this moment was thrown out of the window with a few, simple words. " I'd like to roll to seduce the Jester." Your patron seemed... unamused? Yet also as if she were expecting this. After all you did the exact same thing with Dark Enchantress Cookie, but that was just for the funny(plus, you got a nat1 that time). You were completely serious about attempting to woo Shadow Milk Cookie, maybe even another one of the Beasts if they showed themselves. " Are- Are you seriously doing this again?" She asked exasperatedly, to which you eagerly nodded. With a sigh and a wave of her hand, a D20 appeared in your arms. " Fine, fine, give me a Charisma check." And once again, fate blesses you. With a natural 20. " ... NAT 20 LET'S GOOOOO!!!!" You can feel the tired aura from Dungeon Master Cookie. " Alright, alright... I'll let you have this." She sighed as the world faded back into motion. You stood tall and proud next to Pure Vanilla Cookie + Gingerbrave and Friends before you stepped forwards. You're pretty sure that you gave PV war flashbacks with the expression on your face. " Reader Cookie for the love of the Witches-" He attempted to plead, but it was already far too late. " Shadow Milk Cookie, hm?" You began, your tone flirty as it always was when you did shit like this. " What a fine name for such a clearly ever so powerful cookie~" You hummed flirtatiously, batting your eyelashes at the gigantic jester before you. " Oh?" Shadow Milk Cookie hummed, leaning down to get a better look at you. " My my! I didn't think I had such an adoring fan of mine waiting for me here~!" He chirped, a subtle yet bright blue hue taking over his face. " Lord have mercy on us all..." Pure Vanilla Cookie mumbled to himself almost desperately. If both you and Shadow Milk Cookie are flirts... then you'll probably be here, locked in a battle of the heart for a while.

i think sirius is so fucking loud and fun and adventurous in every situation but when he's alone with remus in their flat he gets so soft and quiet and sleepy

they're very touchy but not in the making out every second its more like their fingers are always touching and they're shoulder to shoulder or remus has an arm around sirius' waist at all times

sirius really helped remus with his confidence and self respect

remus encourages sirius to go wild at the club because he loves watching him have fun but the moment someone tries to hit on sirius or dance with him he's running behind remus like 'get him boy' and remus goes into guard dog mode

their favourite cocktails are sex on the beach (sirius) and a negroni (remus)

I know that they're like two little goats that hang around Billie but I'm yet to see some official art of them or any info of their personalities...

No problem! These are Lou and Lily.

There's not as much info about them as much as other characters, but basically Lou and Lily are about Billie's age (so around 15/16) and are the only ones of her age that accept her and admire her more powerful than avarage magic. But still have their own goals in life, like working at the library or woodworking. The three of them form the team STDWOLOM (something to do with our love of magic).

Lou is basically a smartypants: he loves magic, but tends to be catious, and always ends up getting injured in some way during their adventures. He's also a DND player and loves cranberry juice.

Lily is shy but sweet, she loves the animals that live in the forest and lives with her two dads. She's also into magic, but she often fears getting into trouble with the village. Ironically, she'd be into FNAF's lore, apparently!

Can I ask why you're a shriek week hater? Genuinely curious! I never watched it

Ok so I am putting this below a cut in case anyone doesn't want to look at discourse which is completely understandable. Also this got kinda long oops

Shriek week... where do I begin? Since you haven't seen the season, let me step back and explain the premise. Shriek Week was a season set at a university for monsters, DM'd by Gabe Hicks. It used a system made by Gabe called the Mythic System. Each PC (Ally Beardsley, Lily Du, Ify Nwadiwe and Dani Fernandez) plays a student at the school for monsters.

I should also preface by saying I havent seen the season since it came out years ago so this is all based on my best memory and posts about the situation

The plot. It is said in the adventuring party that the original premise for this season was for it to be a straight up and down dating sim style game, but that Gabe decided to go another direction between episodes 1&2, which means that the plot was clearly scraped together extremely last minute and is generally nonsensical. It involves clones and an evil plant and a bunch of other stuff, it's just kind of bad. The fact that the plot was shoe-horned in last minute also really effects the pacing of the season, because it was only 4 episodes long and only ever originally supposed to be a fun and quirky dating sim game.

The rail-roading. This problem is deeply connected to the previous point. I havent seen Gabe in literally anything else so in no way am I making any statement about his abilities as a DM, and I am not the type to throw the phrase rail-roading around willy-nilly. The thing is, that because the clones and evil plant monster plot got thrown in so last minute with so little time to be resolved, it a little bit took away player agency, with players consistently attempting/asking to do things only to be told no, and instead led down a very particular path. Usually I am very forgiving of this sort of behavior as DMing is very hard and it can be easy for players to get distracted from the plot at hand... however the players were brought into this game under the pretense that it would be rom-com in genre, not plot heavy. So it kind of makes sense for them to be confused and not on board with the plot that they didn't know to expect.

Terry Talbo. Ok this maybe a me thing, because I do not particularly like Ify Nwadiwe in general, but the way he plays his character Terry Talbo has always made me uncomfortable. To quote a post I made several months ago " Ify plays his character as being kind of pushy towards women, not taking no as an answer when asking them out, and generally being toxically masculine in a way that was not criticized by the narrative or even really the players at all." A scene that distinctly sticks out in my head as both bad manners and bad gameplay is when Terry attempts to ask out a woman at the gym, and rolls low on his check. As a result, the woman says no. Instead of backing off like a normal person Terry doubles down and insists on rolling at least one or two more times to try again, and eventually the lady relents and agrees to go on a date with him. It all just felt icky, and it was not just a one time occurrence.

The cast. (This may also just be a me thing). Each member of that cast individually are deeply funny and talented individuals. However the majority of them did not know each other and the chemistry of the group was way off and did not pass the vibe check to me. One of my favorite things about actual play shows is the secondhand feeling you get of being in a friend group and playing dnd. Shriek Week did not have this, which reduced my enjoyment.

The University Setting. I am putting this last because it's such a small complaint comparatively speaking, but the seasons that came immediately before Shriek Week were The Seven and Misfits and Magic. It was the third season in a row to take place in a school as one of its primary locations, and I think im not the only one who was feeling burned out of this premise by this point.

This is what I have off the top of my head without fact checking anything, so I apologize if I am missing something major or am incorrect about any of the details! I love d20, and while Shriek Week was not for me, it has in not in anyway impacted my devotion for the show.

I love Pitaya ever since their release in Ovenbreak, and it's nice to have them in Kingdom now! Now pleas gib Longan and Ananas-

I haven't played Ovenbreak in a looong time so idk about story there but I'm quite fascinated about dragon lore here, like they have their own language and all and it's sorta like their power source??? I wanna know more :(

This is also a parallel universe to Ovenbreak so I wonder what the other dragons are doing

Like here Dark Enchantress is def the big bad (And like... We all agree it was White Lily Who came to Pitaya in search for power???) and I wonder what's the deal at least with Longan and Lychee here

They're a bit funny and a bit silly but I find it really cool that they don't really understand cookies but are still fascinated by them, especially strong ones... And they are a bit struggling to understand their motivation to do anything

wolf 359: sci-fi comedy about a group of people and a sentient ai stuck on a space ship 7.5 light years from earth. capitalism is evil. aliens are real. there’s a plant monster in the air ducts. if you haven’t listened go listen rn. it takes a bit to get going but once it does it’s so fucking good.

the adventure zone: balance: mcelroy dnd podcast. it’s all dick jokes and shenanigans right up until you’re crying. my pro tip is to listen to it on 1.5-2x speed.

the magnus archives: this was the first podcast i properly got into and it will always have a special place in my heart. horror anthology with an overarching plot. martin blackwood i love you.

king falls am: i struggle to actually rec this podcast bc of how problematic it is at times and how it’s unfinished (bc of infighting among the creators lmaoo). however if you’re willing to wade thru sporadic racism and sexism, stupid overarching plots, and general tasteless jokes, it’s got a genuinely great cast of characters and a super fun vibe. it’s night vale but there are two radio hosts, a believer and a skeptic. the town is super wacky, it’s really funny, and it’s got a delightful cast of quirky background characters. plus a musical episode. lily wright i love you.

directive: super short sci-fi about a man charged with taking care of the sleeping/hibernating passengers on a long haul space flight with only an ai for company. don’t wanna say more than that, you should just go listen for yourself. it’s quite good, made me cry, and you can knock it out in an afternoon.

Masterpost of Az characters and where they’re at currently within the campaign for anyone that cares (me)

PCs

Evangeline Fladeithnor (she/her): Elf ancestry and culture circle of stars druid played by @roystonvasey. Raised in a rural mountain village by an overprotective and agoraphobic, but doting mother (Ariadne), Evangeline has led a very sheltered life until a couple months ago. Her mother is a very well-renowned artificer who specializes in creating items using fiber arts (primarily weaving) to create magical divinatory items. Evangeline recently learned that before her birth, her mother had a vision of her child’s future and vowed to remain childless forever, so she is not sure how and why her mind was changed. Druids are very rare on the continent of Az, so her abilities make her one of the few people whose magic is actually compatible with the Skybreaker Gauntlet, a glove that can be used to incapacitate warforged and detect interplanar magic. Sweet little country astrology girl who is rapidly learning and coming to terms with the fact that she can in fact Fuck Shit Up and maybe she and her mom might have some teensy weensy copendence issues.

Marsetta (they/them): Warforged ancestry mixed but predominantly elf culture college of eloquence (soon to be changed to college of lore) bard/celestial warlock multiclass played by @staggeringsmite. My poor sweet cheese woke up with massive internal damage, a missing voice box (meaning they had lost the ability to both talk and sing), and partial amnesia. They were approached by Oriel who offered them powers and guidance to help them get back their voice if they signed a contract and agreed to do some favors. They did not read the contract. This was a mistake. They have since learned that previous to their amnesia they worked at an upscale hotel and helped the owner blackmail guests, and that their injuries were carried out by a group of people somehow affiliated with the Holy Order of the Gavel. They have also developed a mutually antagonistic “I’m not stuck in here with you, you’re stuck in here with me” relationship with Oriel since learning their contract is exploitative and he is the deadbeat dad of two of their new friends. They have a pseudodragon familiar named Crescendo and the worlds stupidest horse named Silly.

Snowchild (she/her): Pixie ancestry and general fey culture college of lore bard. Guest PC played by my sister who does not have a tumblr. She is the surrogate/adopted daughter of a very powerful Archfey called The Cursebreaker that the party is currently seeking. Her proximity to a Fey sought by so many travelers from the Prime Material Plane has filled her with a longing to leave the Feywild and be able to share her art with “real” people. She is currently functioning as a guide through the Feywild for the party in return for them helping her locate a portal to the PMP. She is a diva with a perhaps slightly deluded sense of how easy it will be to succeed as a performer in a capitalist world.

Trene (any/all): Aasimar ancestry, human culture light domain cleric (probably soon to change either subclass or class entirely) played by @twilightdomain, has been absent for the last 5ish sessions because AJ has been away from civilization for the summer. The artist formerly known as Analemma Utrecht, the prophet of the Holy Order of the Gavel, a sect of Erathis worshippers who believe that society should be returned to the state it was in before direct imperialism was ended on the continent of Az. They told xir mother, who is the General of the Knights of the Gavel the prophecy before falling from the sky and waking up with total amnesia. She was slowly piecing together his past, and their role in the current revival of Gavellian fundamentalism before being captured and imprisoned by xir mother. In his absence, the party has discovered that Marsetta’s patron is both Trene’s and Winnie’s father, making them half-siblings. They have a lack of knowledge about the world that makes her come off as naive and childlike, but this disguises the amount of wisdom and emotional maturity he holds.

Velvel (he/him): Goblin ancestry and culture grenadier rogue played by @madeoftwinklingstars. My poor little meow meow. Raised in the traditionally collectivist, isolationist goblin culture by a very close and loving family, Velvel found himself wanting to explore the outside world to the disdain of his family. He accidentally stumbled into a portal to the Feydark, and got thoroughly lost in the Feywild. This journey culminated in him unwittingly stealing fruit from a very powerful Archfey to feed himself. As punishment for his trespassing and theft she cursed him so that he could no longer make bonds with people or feel closeness without also feeling physical pain and an overwhelming desire to wander and be alone. He has recently learned that his family believes that he simply ran away. His sibling Ariel, however, has been actively looking for him for a year. By visiting the Cursebreaker, the party hopes he will be able to be free of his curse and be able to return home. He’s so sopping wet and hilariously uncharismatic but his heart is so full of wisdom and love and he’s got nowhere for it to all go </3.

Winnabelle “Winnie” Malukavi (they/she): Aasimar ancestry, human and goliath culture gunslinger fighter played by @compiled-paintings-of-ophelia. Raised by the man he thought was her biological father (Leth) and his husband (Ilinoth), Winnie has been under the impression they were fully human until about two days ago in-game. Leth was chronically ill her whole life and died when she was about 20. After he died she started experiencing physical changes (her iris split into two, her hair and nails starting becoming metallic, and began growing metallic feathers out of their shoulders). They also started hearing a voice in their head that provided guidance but scared them deeply. This led her to believe that she had inherited a generational curse from Leth, leading them to leave home to look for a cure. Recently she learned her “curse” is simply her aasimar traits manifesting and that her father is Marsetta’s patron and her mother is a ghost that has been haunting her and is the source of the voice. Winnie is deeply secretive and has kept most of their reckoning with their “curse” completely to themselves. She is also thoroughly a horsegirl and her bestie is the meanest cunt of a horse to ever live, Hest.

Main NPCs

Joseph Olson (he/him) (for now): Human ancestry and culture oath of devotion paladin. A teen that has grown up in a Gavellian household, raised by his father, a Knight of the Gavel who was seeking the revenge for the death of his wife until his own death. With the permission of his grandmother, a critic of the Gavel, Trene adopted him into the party in an attempt to deradicalize him away from the order. Soon after leaving home Joseph made a series of mistakes that made the rest of the party (particularly Evan) suspicious of his motives and led to Trene being taken by xir mother. Joseph realized his mistake and swore an oath to save Trene, and has been learning from the party his childhood gave him a very distorted, unkind view of the world that he’s trying to unlearn.

Mimiko Hoshi (she/they): Human ancestry and culture noble/scholar afflicted with lycanthropy. Joined the party after she was forced by unfortunate circumstance to ask them for help during the full moon so that she wouldn’t hurt anyone during her transformation. The second child of a noble house in a feudal monarchy, she was allowed to go to university to study history instead of carrying on the family title. She was engaged but recently learned her ex-fiancé was planning on breaking off their engagement even before she was turned. They are seeking the services of the Cursebreaker to end her lycanthropy, though during their travels she has begun to second guess the extent to which it’s purely a curse. She is a #chronicillnesswarrior as her turns make her quite fatigued and can give her intense joint and muscle pain so she usually uses a cane as support.

Morwen Utrecht (she/her): Aasimar ancestry, human culture oath of conquest paladin. Big bad of the campaign. Raging bitch of a woman. Religious fundamentalist and abusive mother. Superiority complex out the wazoo.

Pandora “Dora” Kiste (she/her): Warforged ancestry, mixed but predominantly elf culture school of evocation wizard. This adventure started off by her being kidnapped by the Knights of the Gavel and the party rescuing her. She is blorbo from my brain, I rotate her around constantly. Punk rock high femme transgender anarchist. She loves defying authority and blowing things up. She’s also a huge nerd that keeps notes about everything in her several notebooks she keeps in her chest cavity. She has a toxic on/off relationship with a manlet of an artificer. She escaped her contract in a way that led to the death of a child and she feels deeply guilty for it but until recently when she learned she only needed to serve a couple more months to have earned her autonomy she never regretted it. She has a cat familiar named Charlatan (Charles for short). Her extreme bitchiness comes off as a guarded secretiveness so the party knows only the tip of the iceberg of her multitudes. Ask her questions guys. Please. I have answers.

Oriel (he/him): Unspecified angel ancestry and culture, servant and messenger of the heavens and warlock patron. Face cast as Jeff Goldblum but shorter, he is a chaotic dilf to the extreme. Absent father of two party members and exploitative patron of another. Ok so maybe he’s kind of fucked up and evil but consider this he’s also my babygirl. Whore of a man, wears a little suit and uses a fantasy cellphone to do his business and ignore the many many voicemails he gets from Marsetta. Wants the party to save Trene from their mother for unspecified reasons (he would do it himself but she has a restraining order against him).

sae is the oldest danganronpa oc ive got and also a teacher so if i put her in a room with any other oc she immediately becomes the Wise Old Mentor. ryobe especially treats her like that one pocket mirror michael jackson post where he asks "sae should i get the meal or just the sandwich" and she so wisely from the corner replies "get the fries sonny ..... you will need the energy in the coming days 🙂" and ryobe tears up

naomi goes and hides in sae's classroom soooo often because sae a) doesnt care to get in her trouble for it and b) can either talk so much as a distraction or just sit on the other side of the room and leave naomi alone for the entire period depending on what is needed. theres probably been multiple times where naomi has gone "ok i need to get to my next class thanks for letting me stay here ms sae" only for sae to wake up and go "oh....................... you were here? yea ok good luck in algebra :)"

they interact with each other already in canon but this just needs to be said. rie and yoshito form a study group early in the year and occasionally invite mika or naomi if they really need motivation to do better at school. yoshito and rie realise this study group is actually really good and slowly invite the others into it but the more people they invite the less productive it becomes until they eventually have created two study groups: one with their friends and one with just the two of them again LMAO

ANDDDD FOR FUN BECAUSE IVE BEEN REALLY INTO DND/DND-RELATED MEDIA. bringing my dnd characters into the mix with my danganronpa ocs is extremely funny and also i love giving my ocs dnd stats ALWAYS. grins :)

elese and erin (glamour bard) would be so fucking funny because elese is just sooooo immediately petty for no reason???????????? and pippy truly could not give less of a shit. like there is zero reaction to any of elese's passive aggressiveness. elese can be like "woowwww pippy... that song was certainly loud! 😃" and pippy would go "THANKS!!!!" and then minor illusion a bunch of confetti around the two of them while theyre trying to sneak through a dungeon

and while we're talking about elese i do think she gets instantly humbled by rie (eloquence bard/pact of archfey warlock) LMAO. they both have very similar means of persuasion and speak very noble-like despite elese being the only one actually from nobility, however rie is juuuuuuuuuuuust ever so slightly more persuasive. juuuuuuuust ever so slightly able to get people on her side with her charm (and the silver tongue feature). it drives elese a bit mad but she cant actually complain about it until the moment she figures out rie is a warlock and she throws her hands in the air and yells I KNEW IT (she did not know it). but then once she gets over this i can see the two of them bonding over quite a lot in their life i think :)

since we're putting the same classes together nowhere and sae (path of tempest barbarian) are also cool. cuz nowhere isnt necessarily one to repress her emotions, she just unfortunately has quite a lot to be mad at and BECAUSE she gets angry her magic tends to go everywhere. meanwhile sae absolutely spends a LOT of time going through the adventure thinking that she is a strength-based ranger because she absolutely refuses to go into a rage during battle. so he spends so much time thinking to himself "hmmmmm well i do hold the knowledge one might expect from a ranger but i am incapable of certain magical feats that rangers have.... 🤔 oh well guess i am a late bloomer 🙂", while also greatly assisting nowhere in rearranging her thoughts and where she's expressing anger. and then one day during some huge climactic moment sae actually finally rages and it's terrible for so many people and shes like Ohhhh Wait Nowhere Help. Hellppppp

Favourite Fictional Character: I want to be very silly and say Jill Valentine. He's a Capcom (fan) character so making him have a Capcom fav is funny, especially since Fiona resembles RE5 Jill and that Haunting Ground was scraps of RE4.

DnD ideas that I use in my campaign

So, as the Forever DM(tm), I quite struggle when it comes to search puzzles or when I need inspiration. Then I thought it would be cool if I shared some of mine that I liked the most.

Enjoy!

Charades

The classic puzzle. But I make my own. Usually, I think a theme and how the room is, the purpose, and then make a little poem.

For exemple:

Last week, the party were in a small aquatic themed temple searching for an artifact. In the first room, they founded a door with this carving:

"The lily, the fire, the child

The water, the river that flows, the white silk

The key corrupted and lost in the waters of time"

The theme for this one was "purity", so I searched everything that were related. The lily is the flower that resembles purity; the fire was also something that was interlinked with the pure, same as water, and children.

Homebrewed alphabets

I made this one just to mess up with my party but turns out that they freaking loved!

I thought that it would be harder if all of the puzzles were in ancient runes and, before solving, they needed to decode the whole thing first.

Initially, they would have to figure out what symbols each letter were, but instead I allowed them to do researches for a week and roll a History check to decode. I gave them the alphabet but they wouldn't be able to just "roll and magically find out what is written".

It also helps to keep your players immersed and focused.

Short quests & Large quest

I find out that my players enjoy more short quest than a large one. They tend to be tired and get lost in what they are doing in the first place, so I started making small ones that they can choose.

For example, I always think of three quests that can be resolved in three to four sessions. Like a scouting mission or missing cases in a little town. Nothing much complex.

Then I give a resume of the quest, like an letter of someone asking for help, the location and the reward if they complete successfully. Like a contract.

Then, I put one of them in the way of the larger quest, which will help providing improvements, or information, anything.

Since my players can choose, they discuss if they need more money, items, or they want to go to a specific city. And also they are constantly reminded that they need to fulfill the large quest.

You can also put moral choices. For example, one leads the group to where they need, but choosing them, a small village will be exterminated. Choosing the village, they receive fewer or no rewards.

Past helps present

Didn't use this one yet, but I pretend to. It was a suggestion of one of my players.

It's a puzzle where they just can solve with the help of the past, like their parents who were adventurers like them, or an old party who also tried this puzzle but failed. You choose. But the players travel back and forth to the past and present.

I thought something like they found a dungeon where no one ever came back. Then they play as PCs of that party and everything they do in the past, the current PCs in the present sees happening and can cooperate. Obviously, it has flaws with timelines, but it's a cool idea.

ur post abt the teensy ancients reminded me of a silly hc i have. since you can get drunk off vanilla extract i like to think PV is very resistant to alcohol [i know i saw this hc somewhere but cant find the source post :/]. he always has to supervise whenever hollyberry and gc decide to drain a bar and fuck around HFSDLFKSDJLFKDSJ. they all trade taking shots [PV doesnt really care to drink just because its not really for him but he'll do it for social reasons] and hb and gc are almost blackout drunk and hes barely tipsey after taking the same amount of alcohol. he could actually theoretically beat hollyberry's juice record pretty easily but doesnt want to shatter her ego the whole time white lily and cacao r just hanging out drinking tea or whatever chatting meanwhile gc almost hit a civilian with a javelin 'testing hollyberry's sheild' while theyre both drunk as pv fruitlessly tries to get her to sleep it off. but yeah i think abt the ancients while theyre journeying all the time its so funny to me i mean like its an angst goldmine too but. Silly blorbos doing silly adventure go brr

Last Movie: I'm trying to watch every Wes Anderson movie in order by renting them from my local library, and I'm more than halfway done! So, my most recent in that regard is Moonrise Kingdom, which was quite fun. Non-Wes, I watched the Favourite recently and holy shit, that's an absolutely incredible film.

Currently Reading:

Non-fiction - I'm currently reading On Lies, Secrets, and Silence, which is a book of prose by incredible lesbian Adrienne Rich. I'm studying for my gender comprehensive next week, so as some last minute prep, I've been reading through a bunch of articles by sociologists who study gender as a macro-level social structure; I've worked through Cecilia Ridgeway and Joan Acker, and will hopefully start reading some more Barbara Risman tonight. I'm also have some works from Raewyn Connell lined up to read on hegemonic masculinity and patriarchy, and I'm very excited to give that another glance.

Fiction - Just finished a re-read of Harrow the Ninth this afternoon! Gonna start a Nona re-read, hopefully on audiobook. I have been very slowly making my way through A Feast for Crows, which honestly has been a great book to pick up and put down. I also have a copy of The Bluest Eye checked out from the library, but I don't think I'll get to it before it's due :(

Sweet/spicy/savory: Sweet, with savory as a close second. Unfortunately, I am a bitch with spice.

Relationship status: You know how in middle school, you used to change your Facebook relationship status to "it's complicated" when you wanted people to gossip about you and think you were interesting? I'm there, except if anyone talks about me I'll start crying

Current Obsessions: I'm finally setting down from an obsession with The Last Of Us that comes and goes; I'm sure it will be back when I sit down and finally play the second game. Some of my friends are reading The Locked Tomb series, so Harrow brainrot has returned in full force. I'm in the middle of a continual Sufjan Stevens obsession, and am slowly making my way through all of his music; I just got his new record on Vinyl! I'm hoping some of my crafting obsessions come back, I miss it, and desperately need to finish crocheting a blanket. Overall, my brain is in exam mode, unfortunately.

I had DnD monday. The GM is running us through Candlekeep, and we did the bit with the mirror book that goes to the self-help group turned cult by a coven of hags that hijacked it to feed on the insecurities of the membership.

I, as a player, upon seeing one of the hags has a hellhound decide, this will be my dog. We go through the whole adventure, noteable goofs from my character include:

"Getting past the Nyead will be easy." (the rest of the party's response range from the feminist 'don't under estimate the female water spirit' to the shadenfreudesque 'oh, this I gotta see')

"I brought snacks." (rolls for intimedation. 18.)

"I won't get hurt." (Duo'nee is a 7'3" half-orc cleric who specializes in breaking the hypocratic oath.)

"Get in the pot."

"I'm feeling so INSECURE right now." (fails deception roll, shifting the last encounter from three individual fights with the hags to one climatic show down; whoopsie te-he.)

Anyway, we get into the climatic fight and the first thing the hags do is they polymorph me, the 7'3" truck of a half-man into a puppy dog. When my initiative comes around, I muster all the energy of a chihuahua, and charge directly at the hell hound Morte, and bite for maximum damage (4): gotta establish dominance.

On morte's initiative, it shakes me off, knocking me into a near by tree, doing enough damage to undo the polymorph; I quip that Morte tastes terrible. It's my initiative. I muster my natural authority and big-man voice, weaving into my shout the magic of the command spell, as I shout across the battlefield, "Morte: Sit! Stay."

(The command spell only works on targets that understand the command; fortunately, it was established that Morte, posing as a seeing-eye dog, and perhaps even being one, understands simple verbal commands like sit.)

The hell-hound obeys for one turn, stopped from using it's fire breath. The battle continues around us as hags weave spells and player characters attack the hags.

Top of the initiative, I now point at one of the hags and again Command morte to "Attack." The dog-fiend uses its fire breath on the hags, damaging to of them. The other player character in the cone manages to evade safely, but the blue hag goes down. In that turn rotation, the green hag (morte's owner) goes down too.

When the green hag goes down, I quip without the command spell, "Morte sit." to which Morte (after a successful animal handling check (DC 20) generously given to me at advantage since I'd been handling the dog all combat), complies.

We wrap up the last Hag in the fight, and now I just need to convince the paladins to let me keep the hell hound... I take a blow blocking an attack that woulda put the hell hound.

The agreement we come to is that the goddess of beauty (neutral good) that this place is dedicated to will put the hell hound under a greater gaes to "be a good girl," and I'll take a level in warlock to take it as my pactbonded familiar.

So, Morte gets a lovely collar decorated with Lilies symbolizing the gaes, with her hellhound powers sealed behind the GM's discretion (of morte's willing want to 'be good'), and a glamour to appear like a normal dog. I expect as I slowly reform Morte overtime, the dog breed will gradually morph from strangely large german shephard to appropreately sized great perinese but with black fur.

The dog collared by a deity satisfied the paladins' paranoia about letting evil things beyond my control roam free, and I get my hellhound.
