Okay might start sounding a lil crazy here lol BUT the more I think about it the more I think the short haired twin is Glenda and the long haired twin is Glen HEAR ME OUT:

This clip from the trailer, we see someone running, not like a "oh shit I gotta get away from my crazy murder family" run but more of a "get the fuck back here bitch so I can murder you" predatory type of run. And judging from the pink car in the corner and the way the person is dressed I feel like it's safe to say it's one of the twins, and from the way they are running I think it's most likely Glenda.

It's pretty difficult to tell BUT it doesn't really look like they have long hair?? Like it doesn't look like they have any hair flowing behind them as they run, it looks like they have a very close to their head type of haircut. ALSO

It's hard to tell but it looks like the twin on the left is wearing a purple jacket under their green thingy? Like you can see a jacket collar poking up from under it. Like these two clips could even be from the same day.

And I know the long haired twin is also wearing a purple jacket but 1) maybe they're matching cause they're twins or something and also 2) that jacket doesn't look as shiny?? Like it doesn't look to me like it's the same material as the running clip (which, hey, could be from a different day so trying to match it to an outfit could be pointless anyhow lolololol 😆😆😆)

(All characters are over 18 btw)

-dogday sometimes has dog like tendencies, like growling, barking etc.

-he doesn't remember a lot about his life as a worker but will share stories he remembers of his human life once you two become close.

-man is like a love sick puppy. First you save him? Give him legs? AND a home?! And his friends are here too?! You really are his angel.

-he's very protective of his angel. He can't have anyone take them away or even hurt them. Plus all those years locked away, he can't loose you, you're his hope.

-this man will most certainly plan his confession, script and all. Maybe you're away at work and this is something he's been working on for a while. He's always bringing you little gifts on his hunting trips (depending on if you like to collect rocks and such) but this dude went out of his way to find the best of the best. Even somehow found flowers beautiful enough to almost rival your beauty, keyword: almost.

-he enjoys spending time with you, poppy and kissy, he enjoys playing outside with you three, even if you guys have been out of the factory for years already. They still enjoy the outside world.

-I know bro is huge, like dude is taller than an American door way (according to some measurements fans have made, hes 9'5) if you're a shorty (like me 5 feet even😭) he will most definitely pick you up and carry you like a dogtoy. He likes the feeling of carrying his angel, it gives him a sense of pride doing so. Even if you accidentally hit the ceiling or he needs to really get down so you don't hit the top of the doorframe, he will always apologize or joke about it.

-he's a cuddler, he LOVES cuddling! He has his own giant dog bed in your shared room, but he prefers to sleep on your shared bed. If you're away from work and he's eepy, he'll pass out on your bed because it smells like you. Your scent keeps him at bay until you come home. Poor guy will shoot up and push anyone out of his way to be the first to get to you! He sits there on the floor waiting for his mandatory headpats and kisses as soon as he hears your keys.

-it takes his brain a few minutes to properly turn on. After all those years he finally gets proper sleep, I can imagine you waking up first and getting ready for the day to prepare breakfast for the group and you poke him, trying to wake him. He'll mumble some random stuff about not letting rats do taxes then fall back asleep only to be woken again by your pokes still talking nonsense. I can also see him sometimes waking up confused, you know like when you wake up your parents and they're mad for no reason asking what's wrong while gasping for air? (Just me?) I can see him being THAT dead asleep bhahsha

-my take on the survivor au is more of a modern take (as in yes the factory closed years also but reader is possibly in early to late 20s sometime in 20xx / non specified year) so they weren't an employee but probably knew someone like a family member who worked there or was dared to enter the factory (we'll see if I ever post my fanfic haha as these hcs kinda tie into that story) so dogday being alive in the 80s or 90s he probably has like the old school idea of love and attempts to swoon you as such. The flowers, cheesy pick up lines.

-I can imagine because he's not up to date with the newer terms and he might be confused while trying to seem cool haha. "Angel what does rizzler mean?" (Poor peepaw)

- Personally I love the theory that DogDay is an ex worker aka Rich. Which is probably why he was the leader of the smiling critters. Because he was mature enough to make sure everyone was in line/well behaved, I also think some other workers were turned into the mascots too (obviously) but maybe they trusted Rich more so they just threw him into the dance circle and hope that he'd be a good leader.

- this one ties into the first one btw! I like the think that maybe he was one of the mascots when he worked there. Like a guy in the costume who worked with the kids (hence the zipper, how else would the workers get into the bigger body suits?)

- I like to think DogDay likes when Angel calls him by his old human name. Maybe once he opens up more about his human life (or at least bringing up some of the memories he still has) he just randomly brings up his name when talking about a memory and hearing Angel repeat his name back, he'd probably like hearing it. It might make him feel like less of a monster in a sense. Granted I think he wouldn't care about what Angel calls him but he would most definitely prefer for them to alternate. Like you know when someone makes you mad and you use their real name instead of their nickname? He'd hate for his Angel to get mad, especially at him. But when living with 3 other people it can get a bit hectic.

"DogDay! Did you bring mud into the house?!"

- Now this head canon I have can go either one of two ways, right? Hear me out. Listen up, listen carefully, and listen closely. (Lmk if you got that reference) ok so back to the zipper! I think the zipper just opens to his organs tbh like the zipper was just left functional in case he needed to be "repaired internally". BUT another thought, I also can see there being some sort of barrier! You know those stuff animals who have their stuffing blocked by a barrier so it doesn't fall out but the zipper opens to a compartment where you can store items? I kinda think that's whats there tbh, I mean it makes sense. What if one of the kids opened the zipper by mistake? Surely there would be a barrier just in case.

- as I mentioned in the last hc post, I can see him trying to swoon Angel in the old romantic type of way. I can see him pinning after Angel hard, at first they wouldn't get the hint, they'd probably think he's thinks he's indebted to them for rescuing them and giving the 3 of them a better and new life. But quickly they realize bro is in love. Of course poppy teases him about it too at some point lol. He doesn't really try to hide it either. I can see poppy and kissy thinking it's sweet and first then they get annoyed once you're the only thing he talk about lol.

- You're married. That's all! No but I can see in his mind you two are basically married. He'd probably want to have new custom star collars made for both of you or maybe even a ring for you and a matching collar or something for him to wear and propose. Of course it will bother him a bit because he can't go out with you, take you on dates or show you off but he trusts you (even though he gets jealous when you smell like someone else) he basically tries his best with what you guys have (If only there was a holiday that came once a year where you guys could go out dressed in customs without looking like freaks).

- He looks like the type of guy who would love pasta. I'm not sure why or how this even came into mind but I just feel like that's what he often wants for dinner. Poppy would probably eat fruit for dinner, kissy isn't really picky, but Dogday would probably be asking for either pasta or meat. Also I think Angel would be hesitant to feed certain foods to Dogday because you know, he's a dog (not really but hear me out) but because he acts like one at times I could see Angel being like haha nope you can't eat this!

- tbh this is more of a general head canon for the toys but I seeing as they had to resort to c*nnibalism. They clearly need food and water to survive. I think catcap was probably keep Dogday alive as a "lol now look at you now, look at me" (yes that's a BP reference) moment but only feeds him when he felt like it, since food is basically scarce in that place. I think that their human organs were transferred over but little things like veins, teeth, tongue, blood vessels basically anything that's not a major organ was made artificially and connected in a sense to those major organs making them function as such.

Yeah that's kinda it lol, there might be some more parts to this if I can think of anything else! But yeahhh that's kinda my hc and rambles lol (I tend to ramble a lot especially when I have to give context, I apologize!)

OK so long story short the other day I was abusing the computers at my job to look up dragon ball characters and I came across THIS IMAGE of GOTEN that I found out was from DRAGON BALL AF which is a fan-made thing and idk . Dont worry about the details.

I thought it was soooo cool like put my chin in my hands and sigh lovingly. But also it was more of a rant-and-rave kind of adoration. Becasue I couodt beleieve how cool it was. Becasue here is why

Im super bad at deisgns or redesigns and sometimes I have epic ideas but if I don't then I don't. I think it would be stellar if we had a design for Goten & Trunks when they're older than GT and running the sword dojo. And I've tried to cook some up. But it vexes me for two reasons. First of all Dragon Ball deisgns when colored are gaudy and stupid looking. But also sometimes they use neutral colors. And they're eccentric and unique. And I try to mix all of these factors and the result Does Not Work. Becasue despite the plentiful love that I have for colors, I Do Not Understand Color Theory. Definitely not enough to push it to its limits like dragon ball does. My second problem is the actual clothes themselves. There is something wrong with me that makes it so that i eschew research like my life depends on it. I'm sure it's totally possible to gather a minimal understanding of what sorts of clothing / eras / disciplines certain dragon ball styles are based on, and to cross-reference that with what is actually depicted in dragonball, and come up with an outfit that gels. But I cannot do that. So yeah

This outfit featured here is so familiar yet unique enough to turn my head a bit. For an example. The yellow above his shoes. What is that. Don't answer that. I'm in love either way

THEY JUST ... PICKED TWO COLORS? That's it? THAT'S ALLOWED ????? Just TWO COLORS and only ONE of them isn't a dead-tone-neutral-non-color. Well I guess it's four colors, and still, only one (yellow) isn't a non-color (grey and white and black). I'M SO IMPRESSED !?!??!?!!??

The only idea that I had for post-GT Goten was FOR SOME REASON the visual flair of something long and sharply flowing off of him. Like a scarf, or a long sash, or a Dr Drakken style rattail. But I can't do all three. Becasue that's too much. But I like all three. So IDK what to do.

YEAH THEY WENT ON AHEAD AND GAVE HIM THIS SASH ON HIS HEAD. Sure. Go on ahead. Throw it on there. Looks good. Good contrast against his black hair. Makes it to you can draw his eyebrows over it and so he can emote clearly. SO GENIUS. So simple. I'm gobsmacked

HE'S COLORED LIKE A BUMBLE BEE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!??!?!

My conclusion is that this is the best non-canon design of adult Goten that has ever been and we should all adopt it immediately from Dragon Ball AF. I am so stunned and impressed by the fact that he is wearing just grey and yellow. I have tried to break down all of Goten's canon outfits to find a pattern in the color schemes but I could not find one. But I can tell when it works for him or not and I don't understand how or why. I have at various points tried to design new outfits for him. I have experimented with yellow, teal, pink... Never really red because red only appears on two of his outfits in a minor way. More astutely because red is not really Him (like it is for Bura or Videl).

Definitely the most promising color I've found for him is Yellow. It's a sunshine-soulchild color. But I still haven't figured out how to practically incorporate it. For example, is it a predominate color or one of several? I've seen dragon ball outfits go either way. I definitely prefer the former becasue that's how I'm used to seeing it in my silly little western cartoons - every character has a color, don't they? And that's Their color. But this is dragon ball.

If you pull a warm yellow or pair it with orange, you are reminded of kid Goten and his orange gi. If you keep it colder or pair it with green, you get something reminding you of his EOZ "Goten Son" shirt. But what if you want something new? The next step in the evolution of Son Goten, but still unmistakably him? You would want to stay away from yellow and orange, becasue Trunks wears a lot of that himself. What about yellow and not a green bice, but a forest green? What about muddy non-colors? Dragon ball colors tend to be warm-shifted becasue it was the 90s, but you can work within that color range. But exactly HOW? What about yellow and pink? Teal? Aqua?? You can't use lavender (Trunks's color). And to be fair I have experimented with grey before, since he wears grey pants in DBS:SH. But I always tried to find other colors to shoehorn in there because I thought I had to. And what's really left...?

DRAGON BALL AF has the answers.

I've been seeing more and more people recently compare the current Good Omens/Our Flag Means Death/What We Do in the Shadows fandoms to the build up from the Superwholock days. and let me tell you, as someone who was just getting into fandom during the height Superwholock but was observing from outside those fandoms, i definitely see it.

similar amount of crossover within the fandom, similar types of crossposting. similar formats of engagement (response gifs, edits, and metas regularly breaching containment and being seen and engaged with by people outside the fandom) and similar intensity of theorizing and analysis. similar desire for comments and responses from writers and actors involved. I can even point out how they are analogous to each other as crossover fandoms.

good omens is the most obvious . it has the angels and demons and religious/mythological imagery of supernatural as well as the fandom engagement and irl stanning with the creators. it shares David tennant and several actors with doctor who. and you cannot look me in my face and honestly tell me that coffee theory and the similar theories don't have tjlc vibes and that the way we talk about and engage with Neil gaiman doesn't have the vibes of how sherlock fans engaged with Steven moffat and Mark gatiss if they weren't massively weird cunts to his fans and kind of homophobic.

our flag means death involves fictionalized and revised history as well as having several stories/arcs that feel like they are coming from different genres but that still fit together like doctor who. it also has the giffability and similar types of analysis for characters and relationships. it has both the capacity for mundane lines delivered so uniquely that they become deeply quotable like doctor who and lines that are so absurd that they are imminently quotable like Sherlock.

What We Do in the Shadows has the long running with a few different iterations thing that doctor who has. to a lesser degree, but still. it has the absurd dialogue and situations that Sherlock had but without the distain for its fans or weird homophobic subtext and queerbaiting. it has the wide representation of mythological and folkloric creatures and stories and consistent random out of context lore notes that supernatural had.

the most entertaining part of this is how deep we all seem to be falling into this. the depth of this crossover fandom hole definitely seems to go as deep as superwholock. I mean I've seen several friend groups that have a similar breakdown to what is going on in my house right now which is

me: has been a Tumblr kid since before the height of superwholock, escaped the curse of supernatural

roommate 1: was a supernatural fan on the Internet during the height of superwholock, escaped the curse of tumblr

roommate 3: was neither a supernatural nor a Tumblr kid but was in the Voltron Instagram fandom and has read more fanfic in total than the rest of us combined

roommate 3: has been busy playing Minecraft and Lego star wars the whole time all that mess was happening. knows nothing about fandom.

all of us right now: losing our collective shit about gay angels and pirates and vampires. at least one person in this house cries about them daily. there is at least one tortured wail echoing down the hall when someone gets a sad edit on their fyp/feed every day. we have regular in depth discussions of characters and head canons and different interpretations. we bribe each other to trade chores or do favors or let us win games by offering one shots of the other person's preference.

and I haven't seen this many people go this feral in this way since superwholock died down. and I'm having fun actually participating this time around

Hello I know its a dumb question and most gay people switch but who do you think is most likely to be the top or the bottom between Naruto and Sasuke 😂

Ah the question that everyone wants to know the answer of. Well, seems like Kishi prefers NS. And no it's not a coincidence.

Kishi keeps (or used to at least) track of the fandom which is pretty common for creators who amass a significant fan following, as in who is the most popular character and why, who isn't and for what reasons, and I am positive he not only knew about the popular ships but he also played around it, trolling everyone. Lol, that jerk. Regardless, he certainly drew and wrote Naruto as an impish punk ass troublemaker. And Sasuke as the dignified, sensual and stylish avenger. Quite a lot of canon art consistently portrays Sasuke as the feminine counterpart to Naruto's masculine energy. Since they also represent yin and yang, yin represents feminine energy while yang represents masculine in Chinese philosophy. The SNS tropes also depict Naruto as the hero and Sasuke as his heroine is this classic and epic love saga. Also, Sasuke is designed after the archetype of a bishounen, who are written as typically lusted after by men to possess. Bishounen archetypes are typically bottoms. From what NS characterization I have read or seen, it is not always entirely accurate. A lot of NS fanfics are also pretty dissatisfying, and some of them, even the popular ones, are pretty inaccurate and poorly written. But most SN fics are more overtly shit. All in all though, I have seen NS characterization portray SNS much more accurately than SN. SN theories anyway are pretty rubbish. What with their faulty sun and moon allegory and the filler shit they rely on.

This top bottom thing honestly has a lot of pointless mystique about it. It's not that mysterious. Or even important.

It's not like Sasuke is some delicate twink and Naruto is some bear. In the manga itself, neither Sasuke nor Naruto come off as overly masculine or overly feminine, they are still very young, still coming into their adulthoods. They are still in the process of self discovery. In part one, Naruto is more childlike and Sasuke is like a jaded adult already, led by trauma, although Naruto relieves a lot of his tense lines heh. In part two, Naruto is adulting but his childlike spirit breaks out now and then. While Sasuke acts like a femme fatale around Naruto a lot of times. He is also quite bossy and take charge. Which annoys Naruto, but it's just an act by that time. He not so secretly enjoys it. Hehe. Which does remind you of other couples, as in how Shikaku's wife is bossy but Shikaku likes it secretly. Or how Kushina is bossy and take charge but even though henpecked Minato is sometimes exacerbated, he still loves it on Kushina. He adores her, just like Shikaku adores his bossy wife. Similarly, post Shippuden, it feels like Naruto is the henpecked husband who adores Sasuke, and even though he sometimes complains and makes funny faces at Sasuke's bossiness, he secretly loves it and simply won't have it any other way. Sasuke also knows that he can be himself around Naruto as much as he wants and Naruto would like him just as he is. He also knows that Naruto himself has a good head on his shoulders and both respect each other's abilities and belief systems.

Tetcho Suehiro: A character analysis (Part 4)

Read Part 3 here first!!

A popular fan theory to explain this behavior is that Tetcho is neurodivergent and is on the autistic spectrum. This would explain his hyperfixations, unusual food pairings (which he finds perfectly normal) and him taking things quite literally sometimes. However, I'm not knowledgeable enough on this topic to feel comfortable writing about it. I'd much appreciate it if someone with more experience could add their thoughts to this theory.

One thing about Tetcho is that he just likes keeping to himself. He prefers to let others do the talking while he observes. He's usually shown standing in the background, only stepping up when he feels the need to, unlike Jono who's usually in the foreground, taking the lead.

At this point, I'd like to talk more about his relationship with Jono. We barely see Tetcho outside of fights or work meetings, but we get a glimpse of his more laid-back side when he's alone with Jono. As I've just said, Tetcho likes keeping to himself and usually stays in the background. But when he's with Jono, he becomes chattier - obviously Jono still does most of the talking, but the only time we see Tetcho smile and talk about anything other than his mission is when he's with Jono. 

He fully trusts Jono and his ability, as shown in the Café Uzumaki scene ("What Jono says is surely right"/"There's no mistake in what Jono has said"). Although he dislikes the way Jono torments people, he stands behind Jono more than he stands behind Fukuchi - which is huge, considering that leadership and justice are the most important things to him - but not quite as important as his friendship with Jono. And Jono knows this. After Fukuchi told Jono the truth and Jono betrayed him, Jono was completely certain that, given the evidence, Tetcho would believe him over Fukuchi. 

(I'm not at all trying to say that Tetcho doesn't respect and trust Fukuchi because he absolutely does. Interestingly, he's often drawn facing/standing behind Fukuchi, while he's usually on the same height as Jono - I'm guessing it represents how Tetcho looks up to Fukuchi as his superior and considers Jono as his friend and colleague.)

Obviously, the clearest proof of Tetcho putting Jono over the mission was when he abandoned all his morals and beat up an (innocent) 14 year old because Jono went missing (and he was only gone for like…15 minutes too) - "For just five minutes, I will place Jono above justice."

We've seen that Tetcho usually keeps a cool head during battle, taking calculated and smart decisions. However, during his fight with Kenji, he seems so out of his mind that he doesn't give Kenji time to explain himself, he draws illogical conclusions and doesn't stop to think about what he's doing. Remember how I said that Tetcho hates torturing others? This is the only instance where we see him being okay with it (Teruko tells him that she'll torture Atsushi and Tetcho is okay with it) and even torturing Kenji himself.

Only after the fight he realizes that he got overwhelmed by his emotions and ignored all his morals - and asks for death. He doesn't feel like he should be a Hunting Dog anymore. This once again demonstrates how seriously he takes his job and how important justice is to him. He realizes his mistakes, fully accepts that the ADA is innocent and lastly, becomes Kenji's friend (before passing out on the floor). 

Now that we've covered everything single appearance he's canonically made and analyzed every action he's taken, it's time to get theoretical. 

First of all, I find it interesting that after Tetcho realized his mistake after fighting against Kenji, he didn't feel like he deserved to be a Hunting Dog anymore. He still puts so much importance on being a Hunting Dog, he still puts this group on a pedestal. Imagine how his heart will shatter once he realizes that their leader was the actual mastermind behind it all. I wonder how it will end: Will Tetcho quit the Hunting Dogs and find another way to bring justice? Or will he, as a Hunting Dog, decide to do the right thing and kill Fukuchi and the DOA? (Little fun fact: The real Tetcho Suehiro actually quit his job as a politician. So maybe Tetcho will quit the Hunting Dogs?? Idk. I still want to see him do cool stuff tho.)

We haven't gotten Tetcho's backstory yet (and I will cry if it stays that way), so all we can do is theorize about his past. I think it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume he comes from a samurai lineage (like the real Tetcho Suehiro) and that that's why he takes so much pride in his swordsmanship. Since pretty much everyone in Bungo Stray Dogs is an orphan, I wonder if his parents also died when he was young. It would explain why he never learned how to (properly) cook and just mixes stuff that has the same color instead. What if his parents were killed wrongfully and that's why justice is so important to him? The real Tetcho Suehiro ended up in prison two times because he fought for freedom and rights. What if Tetcho got recruited while in prison? I can definitely see little teen Tetcho trying to punish criminals and accidentally ending up in prison because of it. I'd love to hear your theories and comments!! 

I've spent like 6 hours on this, accidentally deleted the first 3 parts (multiple times) and had to write it all again and now my brain is all mushy. That's enough Tetcho for one day, even for the self-proclaimed biggest Tetcho fan.

Oh yeah plenty of them tbh lol

My hottest take? Honestly? I’m super disappointed in how cruel people were to people with Tech Lives theories on this damn site. Not just in the way that I’m sad about *gestures to everything* but I have seen some really nasty takes and have blocked people over them even though they were never directed at me. It shows me who you are when you’re cruel to a stranger over simply *checking my notes* wanting their favorite character to be alive. Some people in the Star Wars fandom are mean as hell. Maybe it’s because I’m fandom old (mid 20s) so I’ve been around for over a decade in fandom spaces but I can say that Star Wars fans can be really really mean compared to other fandoms. That’s more of a problem on reddit (never again) but it happens on tumblr and twitter (which I don’t have any longer but have heard… stories.) My little corner is GREAT. No complaints about this little corner I’ve found myself in but every time I venture out I see some shiiiiiiiiit and it takes me a minute to remember that this fandom can be really volatile. This is supposed to be fun. I say my piece, I agree or disagree with other people’s piece. Then I move on. I won’t argue. It ain’t my style. I get really upset when I see people being downright nasty to each other over fandom stuff. Stop it.

Also. Listen. I started in the Teen Wolf and Merlin fandoms in high school. There’s a lot of great stuff to use from those shows but canon was rarely awesome. I got used to letting the fandom do the work, fans shipping everything under the sun, and making up wild plotlines that wouldn’t actually make sense because who even knows what’s going on in the actual show anymore. Fandoms are wild and I like different opinions and different content and everything coming together in a way that is both weird and wonderful. Sometimes people want the entire fandom to like exactly what they like and get really aggressive with other fans over it. That is not my vibe. If I see something I don’t like then it isn’t for me and I move on! Enough said.

Instead of moving on, blocking tags, or blocking users many fans straight up call people names! Start arguments! Post cruel things! It’s stupid! I’ll say it, it’s stupid as hell! Just block shit, man! You can’t control other people. Protect your peace and block stuff you don’t like. I promise it’ll feel better <3

Omega and Leia Organa! I loved the Kenobi show and I just think these two would get along SO DAMN WELL.

Hunter and…. I’m going to be honest I thought about this over night and I STILL can’t pick somebody. I need to watch more Star Wars

Tech and Luke Skywalker. Flying! Ships! Podracing! This is the only thing I know of Luke Skywalker! They’d bond over this and make ships go faster together so they’d be besties.

Crosshair and Merrin. In the way that I think he’d look at her like she hung the moon and the stars because she’s so cool and she’s scary and Crosshair appreciates intimidating people and would want to see all of the things she can do with her magic even though he’s kind of terrified of her. (I’m projecting, I love Merrin.)

Echo and Cal Kestis. This is an inspired choice, I feel. Cal has a really big connection to protecting people and Echo WOULD LOVE to work with him to protect people from the Empire (play Jedi: Fallen Order 👀)

Wrecker and Chewbacca. Wrecker really thrived in that episode with the wookiees and I think he’d have a great time with Chewbacca.

49. What has been your favorite part about being in the fandom?

All of my friends!!! I’ve made a lot of great friends in the past two years and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s not very easy for me to make friends, if I’m being honest, so having friends that I talk to about the clones and star wars and fic ideas means a lot to me. It is the ultimate draw for me. I love talking to people about things I love, hearing everyone’s opinions, seeing everyone write and create art and do deep dive analysis. I love seeing people run role play blogs and come up with ask games. I love love love the fun parts of fandom just existing. Seeing people get excited about ideas and share them with others and create gifs and have fun. That absolutely has my heart. We’re all just here trying to express ourselves and that is something I think gets overlooked sometimes. This is something we do in our free time. We’re here because we want to be, not because we have to be. It’s a beautiful thing, to find connection over a shared love of something, and I love that. It’s kind of the same thing I love about concerts. Concerts are a unique place where it’s acceptable to have big emotional reactions with other people over the shared love of the music being played for you. For one night you aren’t just a fan of a band standing in a room listening to some people sing at you. You’re a part of the crowd, experiencing a million different emotions all in the same moment but not one of you is feeling the exact same way as the person next to you. It’s a wonderful thing to experience. This fandom, my little corner of it at least, feels about the same. We’re all experiencing life differently, different day to day things, different upbringings, different opinions, likes, and dislikes. But we’re all here, watching the same thing, and coming away with different emotions and opinions.

I think that’s beautiful.

Reboot question:

Do you think Dante KNEW that Vergil was gonna die from that final stab in the chest at the end of their fight? Cause like. He kinda just let him go and seemed to think that he'd be fine. Like, Dante still talks to Vergil like he knows Vergil is gonna be a threat after this, so presumably Dante thought Vergil would just walk that stab to the heart off. And probably with good reason! We see Dante poking at his own heart in a bathroom once during a flashback, and presumably this is the first time Dante's ever gotten in this big of a fight before (I mean, Dante basically fought Mundus and Vergil back-to-back), so maybe he just figured Vergil would be fine?

Idk. I feel like if Vergil comes back as the new King of Hell and tells Dante Dante fucking KILLED HIM with that last stab, Dante would just be devastated and shocked, because he honestly thought Vergil would be okay after that. That Vergil would just portal back to the safe house we see them using after the Order fell, and that Vergil would have medical supplies there or something. (Unless Dante and Kat went there afterwards and found the place wrecked or unused.)

I fear this one might get long again asdfghj bare with me

First, a bit on my reading of Downfall (skip the first two paragraphs if that's not interesting asdfghj): I've always preferred the idea that what we see happening in Downfall is less like, literal for the most part and more something Vergil is imagining in his head after passing out on Eva's grave. I realize Word of God canon from Ninja Theory asserts that it like, is supposed to be taken literally but the textual canon of the game itself doesn't really lend itself one way or the other. All we have is Vergil near death passing out and then whatever Eva is (since we don't really know what Eva is) telling him that he did die at some point, though nothing to substantiate that claim beyond her word on the subject. (I tend to treat word of god canon as secondary to textual canon)

But in my reading of the game, I've always just sort of assumed Dante didn't kill Vergil and rather just almost did, something still very scary and unnerving for Dante to grapple with (also I imagine made more complicated by the fact him and Kat after the game likely don't know if Vergil is alive or dead after he left, and that speculation is enough to cause a lot of problems for both of them mentally which is something that comes up a lot in a very 'fab wrote this fan fic for fab' fic I posted, Crossroads of Catharsis and Contemplation asdfghjk)

HOWEVER, like I said, I know Ninja Theory has asserted with Word of God canon that we're supposed to take Downfall literally. So if we take Downfall literally like, Vergil does die after the fight with Dante because we are told by whatever Eva is that he died and this is sort of his own little personal afterlife hell that he needs to crawl out of.

And I am pretty sure Dante had no idea he killed him. The way both Dante and Kat (who has just begged for Vergil's life) implies to me that both thought he'd just heal like the twins do and he'd be fine. The fact Kat in particular does not seem too particularly concerned that Vergil is in dire straights. So I think at the point they're both at with the end of the game, both probably think Vergil will be ok.

I think when things begin to turn is when Vergil just...doesn't communicate with either of them. And that's when they both probably start wondering if he is actually alive or not.

Dante at the end of the game to always read to me as not entirely in control of his devil trigger, thus why it got so bad and Kat had to come over and snap him out of it. Which I definitely think would add to Dantes distress if he were to find out he actually did kill Vergil, even if Vergil got better

Both, definitely. Hurt/comfort all the way. It's definitely something he goes through a lot (if not every time) in my fics: I break him down and then make him all better via Juo Love lmao

48- What’s your favorite physical/design feature for this character?

Call me Floor 9 because it's THE HAMMER. Dude is out there incorporating any sport he can to fighting with a hammer, he's killing people with Hammer-Kendo and he tried to play Hammer-Baseball, like he's So Real for that, also it's so good like yesss he'll get in your face and get covered in your blood when he kills you, unlike his siblings who fight with guns, he's close and personal with death.

Like it's such a heavy tool and it requires so much control if you don't want to fuck up your entire body trying to swing it and he just. he does it. repeatedly. He does kendo moves with a tool with a complete different balance and a wayyy more important weight than a shinai. Did he use a sledgehammer before? Did he recreationally watch sledgehammer videos like I do? Did he just do the whole calculation in his head the second his hand touched it? Did the "Rika Knows The Future" crack theory strike again? I am In Love with the fact Rika uses a sledgehammer. I used to joke that "Rika x Hammer-chan is OTP" but was I wrong??

Thoughts on the retcon?

i really liked it my first read through. and nowadays i have many qualms with it and definitely think it could have been done a lot better. rosemary and terezi get their character arcs fucked over hard by the retcon— not that their characters were even getting proper arc coverage during act 6 (which is of endless frustration to me)

davekat, surprisingly, follow somewhat of an understandable line, but one that only works if you are to imagine that the retcon takes place after the game over timeline (which makes no sense) and otherwise just somehow skips over anything interesting

homestuck has a HUGE problem of skipping over any developments or buildup that actually would make an arc sensible or interesting, because it likes to think that the fans enjoy filling the gaps in themselves with fan work and theories. and sure maybe lots of people liked when homestuck would have sort of an ambiguous time jump or character motivation, because then they could be like “OMG! my headcanon for this situation can totally fit in as having happened! i can write a fanfic detailing how i think this went and it’s basically plausible!”

and yeah, sure, that’s fine, everyone has preferences; but personally i HATE this. i hate when authors lean on fan theories to make leaps in their stories and expect you to hold up the weight yourself. like, no, i want to actually see those characters grow and develop in something close to real time, i want to actually fucking know what goes on in their head, and i want to know what the AUTHOR thinks those events would have looked like, how those two characters CANONICALLY would have got together or dealt with a certain issue or reached a certain conclusion.

i don’t want to have to accept the most popular fan theories as fact just because a story refuses to properly tell itself! i actually often dislike fanon! and that is absolutely nothing against fan creators— i adore their work and consume it very often— i just don’t like to accept it as a stand in for canon. i want to know how the author would actually weave those characters themselves!

so, yeah, the retcon is bad in a way. but to be honest it’s not much more bad than the way the rest of act six skips around without giving characters proper emotional development. and homestuck as a whole does this quite often, even before act six, but it really gets ridiculous around there, in my opinion

Hello! I love reading your posts, it makes me so happy to see that there are people that still love these two❤️ I appreciate all that you have done to keep the fandom alive!

That being said, because I wasn't involved with the fandom when I first watched the show, about 13 lol, I am pretty out of depth with how popular certain aspects of the show are to the general audience of Doctor Who.

Me being in my little bubble, I always assumed that all the RTD companions were really beloved, especially Rose Tyler. However after going out of my way to now seek out fan content, as an adult, it seems that there's way more dislike for her than I thought. Is she genuinely well liked amongst the majority? I thought that most fans really connected with the tragic love plotline they had?

The reason I ask is because I am fairly certain (a crack theory I've been making up in head) that more than ever there's a chance that we'll get some insight on how Tentoo and Rose are doing in the alt world but I'm afraid I might be getting my hopes up for nothing if they're not as popular as I thought they were. hi! aw thank 🙈💗 honestly i just made this sideblog to ramble so i wouldn't annoy my followers on main (even though i was originally a dw blog there) and had been out of the fandom for about seven years before october; so i'm rediscovering it too!

i have noticed a lot of differences in the fandom from when i originally watched dw when i was in high school to now. when i watched it was 2012, so ten's era was still really recent and tumblr was much more active, especially in terms of doctor who.

back then, tenrose was everywhere because that part of the fandom was still the majority, but there was a lot of tension because of the direc moffat was taking the show. i remember there was sooo much excitement about even the possibility of david and billie being in the 50th, then it was announced and we all thought we would see tentoorose or at least s2 tenrose; then it ended up not being that at all. this resulted in the fandom feeling disappointed and used for views on top of the fact that a lot of people did not like moffat's characterization of ten and his decision to bring gallifrey back. it was a lot of things, but i think the 50th really created a split in the fandom that we have never fully recovered from. from then on, a lot of rtd era people de-activated tumblr and moved on to other things, including me for a while, because the fandom was so so so tense on both sides.

tenrose is absolutely still a very popular ship, rose is still a beloved companion by many, but it's not 2012 anymore. there are people who ship the doctor and river, the doctor and clara, the doctor and yaz, etc. so there is less unification i guess? and sometimes this leads to people hating on rose because some think they can elevate their ship by minimizing what rose meant to the doctor, which is bs because the doctor is allowed to love multiple people over the course of their insanely long life!

it's not that people don't like tenrose, it's just that there are people who prefer other eras and relationships now and the people who love tenrose aren't active much. but man, the SECOND thirteen regenerated into david ALLLL the tenrose girlies came out lol and i fully expect that to happen again in november. i mean, a lot of people hate ten as well, but that's because he is so popular and i think that applies to rose too. it's a sort of resentment sometimes imo. not always, but a lot of the time. dw is just a massive fandom and with things this long running there is never gonna be one specific consensus to cater to, and rtd always firsty caters to the story.

that all said, rtd is absolutely gonna bring them back even if it's not in the 60th. he always planned to, and planned to make the tardis coral scene canon somehow, so when i saw he was showrunner i was like "it's time!" lol and he has liked a TON of instagram comments about them and rose and bringing them back, including mine 😇🥰

9. worst part of canon: i don't want to say all of aini because that's mean and some parts of it were very good (i would die for ryuki and tama). so i'm gonna go with a toss-up between every time uchikoshi is unnecessarily horny (this includes most characters' treatment of iris and excludes everything tama has ever said) and kaname date's entire character and storyline in aini. making a big deal out of his disappearance only to reveal that he was just in atami and an amnesiac for six years is stupid. having his appearance stay the same because he "had a silicone mask of saito's face" is stupid. everyone had wild pre-release theories on how date could still be in saito's body and nearly every single one of them is more interesting than the truth. this is only the first question and it's already getting so long and i don't care. his entire treatment of aiba and mizuki. he lost aiba in the resolution route, she was the one who made him whole, and you expect us to believe that he'd get into a genuine fight with him and they'd separate? it's like the writers forgot that he's actually a genuinely compassionate person underneath all of his old man bickering. it's why mizuki route works so well- and speaking of mizuki, we were absolutely robbed of a proper reunion in aini. all we got was a poorly timed "welcome home" that was immediately followed up with another porno mag joke. because date's just the porno mag guy, we can't have him show any other emotions for too long or the game will explode. i'm going back to the mask thing real quick- it could've at least been interesting if they went into it as him preferring saito's face to his own. but they didn't. just a "ohhh the ladies like this one more" boy shut UP. i hate you pandering to new fans and defeating the point to a sequel. i love you version of aini that lives only in my head. oh god this is still only the first question. i'm so sorry chey

20. part of canon you found tedious or boring: hmm. well if we're going for boring i could say date's character in aini BUT i already wrote a whole essay on that so i'll pick a different answer. a lot of mizuki's side in aini was kind of boring/disconnected. i know in hindsight this is because half of the time you're not mizuki, you're bibi, but when you're playing for the first time you don't know that, and it makes mizuki seem watered down and bland compared to ai1. you have to withhold a lot of information from the player to pull off the timeline twist, and while it works, it comes at the cost of mizuki's characterization. she feels a lot flatter in aini because we're locked out of so much of the narration. the same can also be said for bibi, and we're locked out of even more of her true thoughts since the game misleads us into thinking she's mizuki. the result is that mizuki doesn't feel like herself, and we don't truly get to experience bibi's thoughts. i like bibi but her execution left a lot to be desired

So, there’s no denying that thicc Eskel is a fanon favorite. I discuss it here in my Eskel character analysis.

But casting someone slim isn’t in conflict with canon. Ostensibly, TWN is based on the books. I.e. they paid Sapko money to adapt his works. They did not pay CDPR money to adapt any of their unique additions to his works. TWN does drop in a lot of references and allusions to TW3, but they have to keep it vague. Because, while CDPR does not own the rights to witcher taking baths, handlebar mustaches on witcher mentors, or jokes about trolls, you can’t get too specific, or you have to pay them.

So, using the books as the canon basis (In theory. Roughly speaking) slim Eskel is not in conflict with canon. The books do not describe Eskel’s size directly. They say he looks like Geralt, but does not say in what way. His physical size is entirely up to interpretation. Any size is valid.

Now, full disclosure, you can count me as a thicc Eskel fan and truther. The reason for this is how he fills the doorway when Ciri sees him and how frightened she is. Eskel being frightening and off putting to a little girl purely due to his physical outward appearance is an important part of his character because when she learns that he is the gentlest, most respectful gentlemanly one, he subverts a lot of common tropes and stereotypes about visible extreme scarring, masculinity, and who gets to be a good guy in fantasy stories. And because Ciri is not (and never was) frightened of Geralt in the same way even though we know he is scarred (tho less visibly so), I like the ‘large Eskel’ head canon as it contributes more towards explaining her fear. So, he is always big and thicc in my fics.

HOWEVER that is all extrapolation and personal preference. There is no reason he has to be big. And these days when you say a character is big, Hollywood tends to take that as insanely muscular and these guys start dehydrating themselves and eating nothing but two thousand egg whites a day and it gets bad. I’d much rather have a character being written as slim, if the alternative is more actor dehydration and unrealistic body standards. You can still use that character to subvert expectations and to show Ciri not to judge books by their covers!

Basically, I was ready to love Basil’s Eskel. He would have been a different, younger Eskel, but he has a sweet quality to him that I thought could have made a wonderful version of Eskel. You can see that in their hallway scene.

Of course, I did end up fully loathing everything TWN did with and to Eskel but that wasn’t the actor’s fault, and had nothing to do with his size, but since you didn’t ask for a long bitter rant about Eskel and TWN S2, I’ll leave it at that. 😂😭
