Podcast wanted to run the official Ghostbuster social media's but was quickly turned down at that. They needed someone who could actually be on top of that kind of stuff and whatnot. So, Stanz made a deal with Podcast that they'd get a social media manager, and he could act as their teammate with that, basically. Giving them ideas, giving them video clips and extra details, etcetera.

Most of the others didn't see a real reason for a social media manager, but as long as it wasn't their money.

Trevor offered to just do everything himself, but that was obviously turned down as well. The teens all agreed not to let the adults run the account either. They didn't need millennial - Gen X / Boomer humor flooding the whole account and making them look bad.

And that's where you came in.

surprisingly, Pheobe was the one to find you. she's seriously the most chronically offline person ever so the fact she ever opened Instagram was a miracle in itself

lots of talking back and forth and meeting the original four three ghostbusters to get input, then meeting callie & garry and the teenagers

you actually figured out that you used to be friends with Lucky as well, damn

you had managed social media accounts before, but you'd recently quit a few of those because of labor laws being broken so, yknow

you quickly formed a bond with Lucky, Trevor, and Podcast. you were kind of close in age to all three of them and they were all invested in the public image for the brand

setting the Instagram up was genuinely the funnest thing ever

the four of you were chilling in the living room in the firehouse (since sleepover stuff, pheobe was in her room reading) and you had your laptop in your lap and the three of them over your shoulders

the amount of laughing and cackling got some scolding from callie upstairs

it took everything out of you to not make the first post a video of trevor being soaked in Slimer's slime (which had been recorded by Lucky just by coincidence as they were investigating the attic again)

the first three posts, which were pinned, all lined up to be like a banner kind of logo with the theme song in the back, and they all played the same video, clips of the og ghostbusters and how they grew and then the new ghostbusters

the tiktok is its own thing, you allowed trev, lucky, podcast (and pheobe) to run it, but everything had to be ran by you first because pr shit

so i was talking to this guy i met on a dating app (my friends were like go for it you’ve never been on a date) and we were talking for like 4 weeks we both have very busy schedules. yesterday he asks if im free on sunday so we can finally meet. i tell him yes, ask him for the details of the date. then i ask him to pick me up since he has a car and he says it’ll be a long drive for him and that he could pick me up from the train station. (but the restaurant is like a 15 min walk from there which to me is unnecessary) and that i probably won’t feel comfortable dressing up nice to get on the train, so i should wear something casual and should tell him if that works for me. i tell him i don’t want to get onto public transport and ask if he could get me a ride (thinking this won’t be a problem at all since the guy works everyday all day a 30 dollar uber won’t be nothing😭) and so then he says ‘hmm never mind lol’ and so im a lil surprised because i’ve voiced the fact that 1 i don’t have a car and the train journey will be over an hour and is quicker by car. 2 i wanted to look good for our date so why is he asking me to dress casual?? 3 why is the uber suddenly off putting like i asked him to pay my rent lol wtf (also please bare in mind that i’m a 20 year old student and he’s a 28 and works full time) do u think was i asking for too much? wasn’t really fond of him but id like to know for future reference.

I don’t think that you are asking for too much at all. Knowing that you were communicating with him from a dating app already indicates(to me) that he’s a low effort type of man. I know some people have success with dating apps, but the vast majority of men on there are there because they can easily talk to(a lot of) women that they would never have the courage to approach in real life. Think about it like this: why would he go out of his way to send you an Uber if all he had to do to talk to you was swipe his phone screen? Imagine if he saw you in person one day and he was a nervous wreck thinking when would be the right time to approach you and get your phone number or social media? He replayed the scenario multiple times in his head until he finally made the bold move to come up to you and say something that would be perfect to break the ice. He went through ALL OF THAT, just to tell you “hmm never mind lol.” I highly doubt that if he did all of that, he would not send you an Uber. Instead, he would be thinking to himself that he went through a stressful emotional roller coaster to get your attention and that he didn’t do all that work for NOTHING. So that $30 Uber? He’ll be thinking that’s nothing to him and make it a luxury vehicle while he’s at it.

Again, I am not discrediting those who have success with dating apps. I’m simply giving you my perspective on why I believe MOST of the men on those platforms are not serious. I do not think you did anything wrong or absurd on your part, and any man who asks you to lower your standards (especially when you’re being perfectly reasonable) is not worth entertaining.

Hey guys.

Yesterday I saw a story in Facebook that triggers my anxiety.

My ex’s story that said he will come for me and another story that shows like a picture of a Grim Reaper and said things about how I created him as a monster and that I’m scared of his dark side. It was really disturbing. In our years together, he didn’t really shown or do like a boyfriend at all. I lived with him in his parent’s house because I was new at the metro. All of my mental health problems started on that house. His parents talking shit about me. Him not a proper boyfriend and whenever I confronted him how he always play games with his friend or how he acted when his friends are around like I am not there or I am just a maid or a baby sitter for him.

Yes, I asked him to help me with my studies but that’s it. And he pointed that at me. Like wtf?

I left him cause I am full already with that mental abuse I took from his parents and from him. When we got a little fight he will make it big and even punch the wall. He won’t listen to me and I’ll be the one to give up and starts soothing him. That’s when I started not to talk to him that made me upset or he will get upset and starts to wreck havoc in the house.

It’s like I cannot move or think freely when I’m there. So when I moved out the house with all my courage I was really happy. Even though his parents stop talking to me and said that I am ungrateful and use them for money and all. Which is not. I cannot even eat freely the foods in there if they won’t say I can eat or him and his cousin are eating. I work hard to earn money and to afford living in an apartment. And they still talk bullshit about it.

When I met my boyfriend he was really kind and care so much for me. It was not hard not to fall in love with him. I know its wrong that I was talking with another guy while I’m in a relationship. So I kept it to myself until I got the courage to break up my ex.

My boyfriend (now) understands the situation that I don’t want to let our relationship out in the public.

But my ex stalked me in all my social platforms and saw the about me of my boyfriend.

My ex is so angry and threatened me that he will kill his self if I don’t follow his wishes. His one wish is to live with me in the apartment. He is trying to get me again.

It was a bad move from me but I was so scared. While he is in my apartment he kept threatening me with a knife on his hand and trying to slice his wrist. We had a fight about that. I tried to take away the knife and at one time the knife was pointing at me. But thanks God he stops. I was tired and exhausted. I can’t focus work. It’s like going back to that house that I cannot move freely. (It is already MY apartment.)

My boyfriend was so worried about me. He keeps the communication on and we are still video calling even if he is there. Every night we fight over a knife. When he wanted to talk with me and promise it will be a calm talk but later on he will be angry and threatening me again to kill his self.

My friend and my one of my co-workers are the two persons that knew about my situation. They told me to kick my ex out in my apartment. That they assure me everything will be fine and if he keeps insisting about it I can just call the police or the authority to report of this disturbing behavior.

So I did. It was peaceful until today again.

I didn’t block him yet because that was he wished. But now, my friend told me to really block him so that he can see me or disturb me again.

I'm also not posting this to discourage discourse, only to point out that not all reactions to discourse are equal to the issue that is being discussed. There is very legitimate discourse in fandom that needs to be brought to light and discussed, and this is not to minimize that needed discourse.

Tumblr is so weird. I'm not talking about the site, I'm talking about all of us on here.

We're weird.

There's so much "no, don't do that" here that doesn't exist on any other site. It's like coming to another world.

I don't do much with Twitter, I really only use it for news, but it's full of p*rn. Just straight up p-in-v right there. And discourse about just about everything. Political discourse capital of the universe. I stay away away because I mostly hate it. I did find out about Vince McMahan paying to cover up an affair though (how did this surprise literally anyone?), which I probably wouldn't have otherwise, so it has its uses. But people stay on Twitter, because discourse is expected and is likely wanted by a lot of the daily users. Arguments and anger and "our side" and "their side" is what their users want.

Then there's Facebook. Everyone I know personally seems to have decided to out idiot each other (this is a regional issue related to politics, so ymmv). There is discourse in comment threads of public posts, but not so much in individual user posts.

But back to FB. Y'all. I read a lot. I read 6 books at a time (1 chapter each a day), of various genres.

I read smut. Erotica. You know. It's not the only thing I reas, but I do read it. And I can, because I'm allowed to make that decision for myself.

I'm a member of a few different groups where book recommendations are their primary reason for being. Groups with tens of thousands of members and that extremely active (note that I am not going to name any of these groups).

Sounds tame. It's really not. Some of these groups are a completely different world.

We know that Tumblr is different and that social media is different outside of Tumblr. But I really mean that it's different. Even discourse is different.

I'm going to put a cut here, because content warning things are below here (and a small mention of an anthromorphic spider).

And my apologies for going in so many directions as this. But this is kind of about why interaction is so low here, and that's because Tumblr is gonna Tumblr, and it's not a safe space for anyone and never will be no matter how hard anyone fights about it.

Without fail, each of the FB groups have a don't like, don't look, don't comment rule.

Someone posted an anthromorphic spider with a partner in a compromising position, asking for recs. Not my thing, but surprisingly to me lots of replies.

And any time I've seen any discourse about anything anyone has asked for, it's been shut down so fast that I rarely see what originally caused the issue.

But I saw the discourse on a request once before the the replying user was banned.

The OP had asked for a book rec that included some pretty dark things. This is your warning before moving forward.

The OP asked for a book rec that included non-con, kidnapping, forced pregnancy, and several other tropes that pushed it well into the "are you ok, op?" area for me. Definitely nothing that I would read or would have any idea of recs for. But recs were given to the OP, until one user asked, essentially, "wtf is wrong with you op? this is disgusting and you are disgusting for asking for it."

Nuked. From. Orbit. Replier was kicked so fast they probably had no idea they were already gone.

Nothing like that could happen here. That response would be atypical here. Anger would only grow from each side, everyone deciding they were in the right in an argument that wouldn't even be a blip on the radar anywhere else.

Here, there would probably be fights in the comments. We've seen these comments. People with differing views of the request would be accused of being the worst type of people in existence. I wouldn't be surprised to see people telling others to off themselves. It would explode into whatever fandom it lives in, and after multitudes of anon messages and deactivates accounts, it would eventually settle down, with the battle lines more clearly drawn and the more casual fans covering their heads to keep from getting hit with the fallout at best, or leaving at worst.

I've seen the absolute grossest takes from both sides of issues here. There is no way to be ignorant of anything because you have to be on one side or another, and if you're not explicitly on one side, you are one of the others, and that just can't happen.

And before anyone says "well, that's because the other side is obviously wrong", I'M TALKING ABOUT THE OTHER SIDE TOO.

It doesn't matter what it is. It doesn't matter the fandom. It doesn't matter the issue.

I have literally seen discourse about whether Captain Rex's hair was dyed or natural blonde. As if this is an issue that matters and not some way to put another line out there to make people prove they're enjoying fandom the right way.

I'm not in the Encanto fandom, but if I wanted to be I'm sure there's some terrible discourse going on, and I would have to align with one side or another because that's expected. It doesn't matter what the discourse is, it doesn't matter what my view is. This side is right and that side is wrong. Period. There is no room for any sort of discussion on my part, because the discussion has already happened before I arrived and the lines have been drawn and you have to choose the side you're going to be on.

I'm not in BTS fandom, but it's there. I'm not in OFMD fandom, but I'm sure it's there too.

And this happens for every fandom. You don't have to be part of a specific fandom to know that it does.

And in the midst of all the fandom discourse we're missing legitimate problems because of the voice they're coming from. Legitimate discourse, problematic users. All because of the side that their on.

The absolute refusal to accept an apology from the other side for their misdeads, while simultaneously closing your eyes to the issues on your side, accepting each apology without question. Because everyone makes mistakes, right? At least as long as they're on your side. Those people on the other side are irredeemable. Their apologies are fake. They'll never learn. Because they are problematic and wrong and you can't fix that.

But we are all problematic. There is no way not to be. And if you think you're not, you're not looking at yourself critically.

I am not unproblematic and I know it. And I try every day to do better than I did yesterday. But I will never be perfect. There is no such thing as perfection. And to someone, somewhere on this site I may be irredeemable. That I don't deserve happiness. That If I had a minor child, I deserve to have them taken away from me. I may not even deserve to live in their eyes. I hope that no one sees me that way, but I've seen others make these comments for far less, in replies, in reblogs, in messages, and in anons.

We act like we are at war and the other side is our enemy and we wonder why no one interacts anymore. Why fandom is dying here, so to speak. Lumping everyone who isn't "us" into "them"

We are toxic. We are problematic. And we're trying to pretend that we're not, that we're so much better than the other side, no matter what the other side is. That they're the problem. We are all the problem.

I stepped back some recently, but came back because I missed it, but honestly, I didn't come here to fight with anyone. I'm sure most everyone else originally did the same, no matter what side of what issue they're on. But you can't come here and interact and not fight. The only way to not fight is to not interact.

And everyone wonders why interaction is so low.

The Indian government rolled out new laws in February, demanding that social media companies appoint Indian compliance official to oversee their content, essentially, and personally go over/take action against "objectionable" content.

(That doesn't sound fascist at all, does it?)

All SM companies had a three month compliance period- three months to change things- and they've done nothing. Unlikely they'll change their minds in the next few hours.

Either it's because said companies KNOW their platforms won't be banned (though there's no real basis for this assumption, that the public knows of anyway) or because they don't really care very much. Which is fair, they value their users' privacy. As they should.

Unfortunately, this means it opens them up to making THEM liable for criminal action carried out on their platforms

Hence the worry that they'll shut shop in India.

That being said, it's still only speculation. I don't think there's any concrete reason to panic right away.

Hi, sometimes I'm looking for old Louis interviews, waiting for new content. I reviewed Louis' interview with Nick Grimshaw. I don't like him, I always thought he was jealous of Louis, so I ask you if you think that between Harry and Nick Grimshaw there was also a romantic relationship as well as friendship? (I never liked Harry as a person, I see him as capable of fucking the world for a career and I think he made Louis suffer / hurt a lot also in terms of betrayal).

I tend to think that Nick had a crush on Harry and Harry took advantage of it for self-promotion. Nick was an access to young English celebrities when Harry needed them. Nick was happy to be seen with a hot 1D star: socially he also benefited from the friendship.

There were fandom stories of Harry hanging out with Nick playing video games until the early hours. Also a few stories of Nick being publicly snarky toward Louis (e.g. the Fiji story) which… why. Wtf was the need?

Do you find tumblr a good place to post world building?

I like it quite a lot, but I’ll be honest it’s not like there’s a lot of competition in terms of websites that allow me to do what I’m doing.

Maaaaybe you could do this with twitter too, by encouraging people to ask questions via Curious Cat so you can answer in more than 280 characters, which would match my use of tumblr pretty closely (posting art and answering asks being 99% of my content)

And of course stand alone blogging platforms would work but no one visits blogs anymore so you’d have to pick your social media poison and link your blog posts.

Maybe reddit? I know nothing about reddit my entire consumption of reddit is via youtube videos where other people read reddit posts. But I’ve heard there’s worldbuilders there.

Discord is nice for this if you wanna talk worldbuilding with a small cozy server. No idea what it’s like on the big ones big discord servers scare me.

But yeah I enjoy posting my worldbuilding here, I’ve got a good following of people who ask interesting questions that are fun to answer when I have the energy to answer questions. I get more than I can answer, but I’ve been here ten years and have built up a following.

There’s definitely moments where people are weird or even god awful but this appears to be true of literally any context in which you interact with any large number of strangers in rapid succession, at least in my personal experience.

Tumblr has definitely given me some doozies in terms of WTF and/or negative experiences but so has volunteering to work with the public at events or even just riding the bus (the bus stories are, in my opinion, way funnier though) and 99% of my time here is a pleasant experience

Hello! Yes I am Bolivian, though I currently live in a different South American country, but I’ve been keeping in touch with my family with WhatsApp and I try to keep up with the basic news from back home, so I think I can explain the basics.

The basic start is with Evo Morales, a cocalero (coca leaf grower) who became a politician and came to power as president in 2006. He’s the first indigenous president of Bolivia (he is Aymara), and when he came to power was widely seen as a game changer, destroying the oligarchical, upper white class hold on Bolivian politics. He was received with much fanfare, including from white leftists, who were keen on a president who would enact social reform and change and concentrate on helping reduce poverty and racism. I was too young to vote back then, but the majority of my family voted for Evo. He was... he was hope. It’s hard to explain. We thought it was the turning point. Finally, an indigenous president, someone who knew discrimination first hand and would be able to listen to the many indigenous peoples of our country. Someone who would fight imperialism, and the scars of colonialism.

He managed to do some good things. If I remember correctly, education spending and welfare spending increased, he increased the taxes on many companies, such as hydrocarbons, allowing the state to invest more and have less of a deficit. Bolivia also received an economic boom unrelated to his actions and policies (it had more to do with the price of minerals, since Bolivia is a mining country, and so on and so forth), so for a while poverty did reduce and the middle class grew. He also increased the number of indigenous and campesino (farmer/rural lands) representatives and their influence in politics.

However, as time went on, Evo’s party began to systematically remove any opposition they could, with many political leaders jailed for charges of tax evasion and the like. There is a lot of shady stuff going around that topic, and it’s too much to get into in a short explanation. It turned out that the party sought to remove any rising leadership, even within their party, that could threaten Evo’s dominance. His party also began to stack the legislative branch and pushing new judges through, setting up people who’d be grateful to him and thus legislate in his favor. While this was happening, MAS, the party’s social base, expanded their power and influence in other ways.

Now, the actual constitutional fuckery that angered a lot of leftists. He had the constitution rewritten in 2008 and it was approved in 2009, which had really mixed opinions from people, though I personally liked that he changed the name of “Republic of Bolivia” to “Plurinational State of Bolivia” to recognize the indigenous nations of Bolivia. The constitution maintained its two term limit for the presidency, but the thing was, he claimed that since there was a new constitution, his first mandate/government no longer counted, and he got it approved legally that he could run two more times again, which he did. Which like. What the fuck?

In the process, we began seeing cracks in his pro-indigenous, pro-environmental discourse. For example, he ignored and overulled the indigenous peoples of TIPNIS, a national park and indigenous territory, when they legally stated that they did not want a highway built through their lands, because it would bring in deforestation and cocaleros who are known for deforestation. He basically steamrollered over this, despite indigenous peoples of the TIPNIS walking all the way to the city of La Paz to make protests. He began to approve infrastructure projects that would destroy natural spaces, including hydroelectric dams that can and will flood Madidi, one of the most important national parks and biodeverse areas of Bolivia. And so on and so forth, he began to act in such a way that was at odds with the platform he ran, betraying indigenous peoples and Pachamama (mother earth) at every turn. He also never took any reasonable criticism in stride, blaming it all on American Imperialism.

However, because of MAS’ stronghold and no unity among the opposition, Evo ran two more terms after his first (including the third which really shouldn’t have been legally recognized), and he stated that after his third he wouldn’t stay in power.

If you guessed that he changed his mind or was lying, you’re right.

He called for a national referendum in 2016 for whether he should be allowed to run for a fourth term, but he lost the referendum, which voted “No”, though it was a narrow margin. And instead of respecting the will of the Bolivian people, he ignored it and pushed himself forward as a candidate for the next (these) elections, to the point that he pushed so that the Supreme Tribunal of Justice would rule that the constitution was inconstitutional (wtf) because it did not respect his right to reelection (wtf) and decided that no public office would have a term limit. I hope I don’t have to explain why that is just. A horrible decision for democracy. Term limits exist for a reason. It’s so no one person can get a stranglehold on power. After this it became clear to us that he had become enamoured with power, and was mainly seeking to establish himself in power indefinitely, which well, it pissed a lot of us off. It was heartbreaking too. To see someone we’d pinned our hopes on becoming... a dictator.

This finally brings us to three weeks ago, when the general elections were held. Now, in Bolivia, we have it so that any winner of the presidential elections has to have at least 10% points more than the guy in second place, or we go into a second round of elections between the higher scoring candidates. And as the official electoral authority reported throughout most of the counting process as results came in, Evo didn’t have the 10% lead needed to avoid a second round, and statistically even if the remaining votes were majority Evo, he wouldn’t be able to get the 10% needed. Also, the remaining votes were City votes, and the cities are in general, not Evo supporters anymore. Until at around 80% of all votes counted, the website and reporting of the electoral authority just. Stopped. It cut off. It cut off for 24 hours, during which the government first claimed that oh, it’d had some technical difficulties, and then (this part I actually don’t understand, so I’m paraphrasing what I maybe undersood) claimed that because some voting places had finished counting already, so they wouldn’t have two places reporting results, they stopped the main authority. Which like.

That’s really fucking fishy.

So people were really suspicious, and when the authority began reporting again those 24 hours later, reporting that oh, actually, Evo had won with the required 10%, a lot of people didn’t believe it. This smelled like electoral fraud. So people began gathering to protest because Evo shouldn’t have been running in the first place and now he wanted us to take this lie and swallow it.

Evidence came out over the next few days about electoral fraud: non-Evo vote ballots were found in trash bins, and the official databases of the electoral authority were found to have “irregularities” that all favoured Evo. People got pissed even as Evo claimed that it was imperialist forces and that the counts were all valid and legit and transparent. But the damage was done. Bolivians took to the streets in big numbers to protest and froze the cities, stopping transport and literally putting the cities in a standstill, only letting emergency services and food trucks coming to the supermarkets through so people could live. The protesters in the cities began to get threats, because Evo began trying to sell these protests as “the racist cities trying to stamp the rural vote”, from Evo supporters, that they’d shut the water supplies to the city off. Counter protesters began massing too. Clashes happened. Evo supporters were pushed out of the city of Cochabamba, but they set fire to the grasses around a city landmark and place of pride because they wanted to give a last fuck you. MAS supporters attacked hospitals that had protesters and even the doctors and nurses who weren’t supporting MAS. Photo and video evidence, and people coming forward, showed that the government was paying people to counter protest. The protesters were mostly non-violent, but there were clashes when the police wasn’t able to keep people separated. One mayor near Cochabamba was found to have paid two thugs to beat up protesters, to the point that one young man of 18ish was thought to be dead, and her hair was cut off and she was sprayed red - supposedly by protesters, but now there are cliams of people from her town that it was her own people that did it to make the protesters look bad. (My opinion? It could be either at this point, I don’t know). The protesters wore the Bolivian flag and called for democracy to be respected. The Evo supporters primarily wore the party flag, and got their hands on dynamite that they set off on streets to intimidate protesters. Protesters have died at the hands of Evo supporters - I haven’t heard of one case of dead Evo supporters. The police started to get unhappy, because they didn’t want to throw tear gas at the people protesting. To try and sweeten them, the goverment paid a bonus... but it turned out the bonus money was taken from the police officer’s pension. Police departments began to ... not sure if mutiny is the right word, but to defy the government, in several cities.

At first, people were pushing for a second round of elections, but when we realized that actually, legally, when there is fraud of a significant impact the elections have to be annuled and new ones held, and the people who did the fraud jailed, the movements began to call for new elections completely, with a new electoral authority that could be trusted.

In the meantime, the military was quiet and not sent out to repress anything even after the police began to rebel, with military subordinates presenting letters that they would not repress the people, while it was known that military high command is pro Evo.

While this was going on, the OEA, The Organization of American States, had issued from the start of the 24 hour blackout from the electoral authority that they had concerns about the election process. Evo ended up accepting an audit from OEA representatives, and said that he’d stand by their resolution. When they finally came out with a report saying there were serious irregularities in the election that cast it into doubt, he called it politically motivated, but did call for new elections...

Then the high commander of the military said Evo should resign so that the country can be peaceful again. And a few hours ago Evo presented his resignation to the presidency.

It’s not over by a long shot - we need to establish a transparent, trustworthy electoral process in record time and hold new elections, and people are afraid that Evo will take back his resignation, and Evo incited his supporters in his resignation speech - but we’ve managed to get this far after three weeks of non spot protests.

There’s a lot more going on, a lot of context I’ve skipped, on Evo, on the political opposition - including Camacho, a religious right wing religionalism whose gotten a worrying amount of support with the protests in reaction to Evo’s excesses - but so far, I am proud of Bolivia. We’ve not let a wanna-be dictator establish himself. Now we just need a good left wing leader to help build us up to the promise that Evo gave us, and to stand strong against right wing pendulum reactionaries.
