“Did you bring food onto my ship?” He was trying to keep his voice even. “No,” you said, still defiant but looking a bit confused. “Why?” “Because,” he said, frustration seeping into his tone. “There was one ration pack missing for the week I was gone…” “I’ll…” you began but he cut you off. “I don’t care if rations aren’t up to your high standards,” he snapped. “I can’t bring you somewhere alive if you insist on starving yourself to death.” He thrust the ration pack into your chest. You glared at him but snatched it from him anyway. “Don’t do it again.” He turned to storm off but caught something out of the corner of his eye that made him stop. The second you seemed to think you were out of his line of sight, you deflated. Almost folding in on yourself, the ration pack limp in your hands. He glanced back over his shoulder. You hadn’t seemed to notice. He sighed, turning back to face you again and watched as you straightened back up, glaring at him with watery eyes. Din had assumed a lot about you. He was a bounty hunter and he wasn’t a fool - his assumptions were usually right. But with you, he seemed to keep assuming wrong. “Why didn’t you eat?” He asked, his voice calmer. You clutched the ration pack a little tighter. “I’m not going to yell again. Why didn’t you eat.” “You figured it out,” you said, bile on your tongue. “Your rations just aren’t up to my high standards, the doll is just too pampered to survive on her own in space. Congratulations.” “No,” he said. “Tell me the truth. Why didn’t you eat.” You watched him for a moment. It reminded him of when he had a quarry cornered and they were trying to tell if it was worth the risk to fight, if they had a chance. They never did. “You didn’t say I could,” you said quietly. Your head stayed high but your eyes drifted to the ground. “You seemed like the type to plan things out and I was serious when I said I know you’d kill me over less than stealing your ship. Cargo you don’t want - that you regret taking and already wish was dead - eating through rations you need? Seemed like a sure fire way to get myself on your shit list. And I have a feeling people on your shit list wind up dead an awful lot. So. I know how to get by on very little for a while. I’ll replace the ration next time we stop where there’s actual civilization…” “Rations are included in your transport,” he cut you off. “It’s going to be a long trip, eat the damned food.” He stalked off to his quarters, wanting to put as much space between you and him as he possibly could.

It clawed its way into my lungs from the first read and I still think about probably way more than is healthy <3

COMMENTARY TIME :D

EEEEEE I LOVE THIS SCENE! It's one of the earliest indications of the cracks in the armor for both of them. They had some distance, the close call with the lightning, but they were in close quarters and very distrustful for a bit leading into that. They're still feeling each other out - both as predators themselves while realizing they may be the other's prey - but I feel like this is the first real indication we have of anything deeper emotionally going on.

Yeah, Din saved her from the lightning strike, but he wrote that off (because he's delulu) as necessary to fulfill the job he agreed to. Here, she's willing to be somewhat vulnerable with him by being honest about her motivations and he is a (to me) very Din blend of curious and concerned. Up until now she's not given him much to go off of but this is a far better window into who she is than anything else he's gotten and he almost compulsively chases it. He's so intrigued by her - and I think that's because it's her but it's also because he's so isolated and he's been around her longer than he's been around anyone else in so long that it's easy to become fascinated and invested in her - and likes the challenge of trying to piece her together. He knows she's not who she says she is but that's all he knows and the longer he's around her the more he wants to know.

On the flip side of that, she's apprehensive because of the armor but she's got light force sensitivity and she was a spy, she can read people and she can do it well. What she thinks of the armor doesn't line up with what she's getting from him otherwise which gives her the room to be honest, at least here and there.

I also love Doll's choices here as a bit of an exercise in control. Her whole life is very out of control right now. She knows where she's going - eventually - but not much about what she'll find when she gets there. She's leaving everything she knows in the form of her family, the job that she trained her entire life to do, the worlds she knows and she's with this man who she can tell is dangerous but isn't sure if he's dangerous to her. So she does what little she can to control what she can. On Crait, she minimizes the potential danger by 1) training so she can still fight and 2) reducing the risk of pissing off her travel companion. It's not much but it's what she has so she latches onto that. She branches out a bit on Hosnian Prime, feeling more secure in her relationship to Din, and trains in other areas, tracking and spying both to keep the skills up but to feel a sense of power over SOMETHING. Yes, she was never the queen (though she was a stand in) BUT she was in charge of the queen's safety and what she said went in those days. The lack of control here - especially during the Crait chapter - really gets to her.

Also, I love the tough protector character (which is both of them tbh but in this case, Din) going soft and caring. It just melts me lol and this was a fun excuse to do that.

So, you mentioned how you can create an interesting dynamic with every possible combination within the B5. To prove this, I challenge you to describe (doesnt have to be long, maybe just the vibes) what every combination (there are 10 combos) would be like!

Hohoho, challenge accepted! And I know you said it doesn’t have to be long but, erm...I couldn’t help myself okay? It was supposed to be a simple dynamcs list, but then I went and added some bits and pieces of character analysis.

So without further ado, here are ten B5 dynamics, ranked in no particular order!

1. Gakushuu and Seo

Simply put, these two ground the other when needed. Seo's (later on in the series) not afraid of calling Gakushuu out; that sharp tongue of his is useful for giving his leader a much needed reality check. However, his tongue can be a little too sharp, which is why Gakushuu needs to rein him in every now and then like the good leader that he is. They basically act as the voice of reason for the other.

Other times however, they're not so mature. I've mentioned before how I hc they're karaoke rivals. In fact, I hc it was Seo who got Gakushuu into Karaoke in the first place (because no way would Mr. Eye-bags walk into a Karaoke bar on his own; that's too much precious study time wasted!) Look, these too are passionate about music. Do you know what happens when two hardcore music lovers clash? You get 4-6 hour Karaoke marathon. That's when the voice of reasons job is passed onto the remaining three virtuosos…or at least onto Ren and Araki. Koyama just continues enjoying the musical madness.

2. Seo and Araki

The opposites attract kind of besties. It started off as Araki lowkey worshipping Seo for living abroad, and while Seo loved the ego boost, he did later grow to genuinely enjoy the company. Behind Seo's tough guy act lays a massive superhero fan: Marvel, DC, Sonic Ninja, and maybe some good superhero manga, too; and it's Araki's own nerdiness that brings that side out. That said, Seo's a bad influence on Araki tbh. Prior to their meeting, Araki was your standard good boy— a true stickler to the rules, though he did secretly harbor some dark sentiments towards others, and it was Seo who brought it out by existing with the same radius as Araki. Who knew Seo was so inspirational?

3. Ren and Araki

These two just get along naturally. Their dynamic mirrors Yukiko and Okuda's—peaceful, if not a little formal. I hc these two had a similar upbringing, though Ren's was a little stricter. (I see the Sakakibaras having a slightly higher social status)

Since Araki's a trivia nerd and Ren's a literature lover, of course they'd bond over reading and overanalyzing books, usually romance. These two can talk books for hours, and if Seo or Gakushuu think it's stupid, someone should remind them how long their Karaoke battles usually lasts. They'll shut up real quick. They do this with dramas by the way.

And because I hc Araki to have a romantic side, he sometimes goes to Ren for love advice. Yes, I know a womanizer is not the right person to ask, but that's exactly why I said sometimes. It's not like Araki's planning on amassing his very own harem (He's monogamous, I swear!) he just wants to know how you ask a girl out, what's the right thing to say, How do you say it, is there something as too much cologne, what brand should he use, etc… He asks precise questions.

Still, it doesn't get him any bitches. Araki just doesn't have the cool vibes to pull off a Ren… poor Raki boy

4. Gakushuu, Ren, and Araki

This is what I call "The parent group" since it's comprised of the (mostly) mature members of the B5. Ren and Araki are pretty much Gakushuu's second-in-commands. It's not uncommon to find the three of the staying behind after school for some council work or A Class-related plan (Seo and Koyama don't attend as often either because they don't want to or aren't needed). Contrary to what Gakushuu thinks, he would’ve gone mad without these two by his each of his side. I hc these three were the earliest members of the B5 so they go way back. They have this special bond that Seo and Koyama just aren't apart of.

5. Araki, Seo, and Koyama

Presenting the Kids' group! Seo alone is a bad influence on Araki; add the chaos-loving gremlin into the mix and our trivia nerd has fallen to the dark side. I see Araki as someone easily influenced by the type of company he has—someone who goes with the flow. Sometimes, he's a responsible young man, other times he's stupid teenager.

Honestly, I don't think it's always a bad thing. Again, pre-Seo Araki was a good boy, maybe even too good. It's normal for a boy his age to unwind and partake in whatever stupid shit boys these days are into; you can't expect him to always act like an adult. The question is how far will this trio go before Gakushuu has to save their asses? 99% of the time it's Seo or Koyama's big mouths that gets them in trouble, and 80% of the time it's Seo finds himself as the adult when he realizes they may or may not have gone too far. He's not always stupid, okay? Koyama is hopeless so don't count on him to do anything other than enjoying the chaos.

6. Ren and Koyama

A surprisingly wholesome pair; when Koyama's around Ren, he goes from chaotic little shit to sweet little baby. Ren's the cool party guy and has always made sure to include Koyama in the fun. Ren also likes to sample Koyama's cooking. He's too nice to say no, and usually, it's good so there's no problem. When it's not so good, Ren's pretty gentle with his constructive criticism and Koyama takes it like it were the Holy Grail.  

They can also be goofy sometimes. Koyoma's photographic memory makes him remember most, if not all, of Ren's essays and poems, and he uses them in writing tests and assignments. Ren's flattered and it makes his day when koyama suddenly sprouts some of his poetry when the mood calls for it. Seriously, once they were trying to encourage Araki to ask a girl out and Koyama recited one of Ren's motivational poems and Ren just joined in. Seo suffered major second hand embarrassment that day…

7. Ren and Seo

Even Ren's patience has limits, and Gakushuu seems deadest on testing those limits with his overambitious nature. So what does a concerned friend do in this situation? He complains to Seo.

Araki's too nice and will just agree to everything Ren says, but he won't actually do anything else. Koyama, especially early on in the series, won't see the problem. Not only is Seo blunt and honest, but he also understands Ren's concern. They all can see past Gakushuu's BS, but only Seo is willing to be vocal about it, which validates Ren's concerns.

But these talks aren't just limited to Shuu, Ren usually goes to Seo for an honest opinion on anything, no matter how mundane. Sometimes, he likes having a debate and seeing a different perspective.

8. Seo and Koyama

Much like Ren, Seo's always made sure to include Koyama in the fun. He of all people knows the fear of being left out, so when Koyama came along, Seo felt like he gets this guy. Plus, more pals for him :D

These two are the resident trouble makers, plus they've got the sharpest tongues. They're like brothers, and Seo likes to think he's the cool big bro guiding his little bro Koyama through the ropes and all. So inspirational

But like any younger sibling, Koyama. Is. A. little. Shit! Remember how the Kids group gets in trouble and it's Seo who has to fix everything? That's 'cause Koyama would rather sit back and watch instead of lending his "big brother" a hand, even when the mess if his fault. You can bet Seo is not happy, yet for some reason, they continue hanging out. 🤔

 9. Koyama, Araki, and Ren

The book club which of the fantasy Wiz Natsu, Romance lover Teppei, and the supreme lord of literature himself, Ren! This is the byproduct of the aforementioned Ren-Araki friendship and they do more than reading and analyzing. You'd think that having two members of the parent group would keep the chaos to a minimum. Gakushuu sure did, but it turned out having Koyama was alone to summon the chaos. It was Koyama's bright idea to include cosplaying and acting out their favorite scenes. Araki's really passionate about getting the costumes just right, down the tiniest detail. Oh, and we can't forget about the snack.

The "club meeting" usually starts out as formal as a court hearing before gradually devolving into enthusiastic ramblings that consist of analysis, theories, squealing, and random poetry thrown around by Koyama and Ren.

10. Ren and Gakushuu

Originally, I wasn't going to include this since it's such a popular dynamic, but then again, why not include Candy's two boys? It's a canon friendship, but people ship them so much that the platonic aspect is HIGHLY underrated.

I believe Ren is crucial for Gakushuu's growth. The fact Ren can speak to him as an equal may be the reason why Shuu went from seeing the B5 as minions to seeing them as real friends. He could a taste of genuine friendship from Ren, which opened him more to the possibility of getting close to the other three as well. Essentially, Ren acted as the middleman between Gakushuu and the Virtuosos, whether he knew it or not. He just has this soothing affect on others.

What makes this friendship even greater is how much Ren and Gakushuu have some sort of family pressure and can relate to one another. Sure, Gakushuu's case is arguably worse, and I don't think Ren's parents actually bad, they just put a lot of emphasis on their image which can really annoy their son, but it's still comforting to know someone shares the same sort of struggle with you. It also helps with Gakushuu's growth because he then feels encouraged to Ren about some issues with his dad, which takes some weight off his chest.

still wrapping my head around the last 48 hours it's been a surreal experience! To think that a week ago I debated cancelling my trip because i was so anxious thinking about how large crowds make me panic and I didn't think I could handle this. Wow I am so glad I pushed through and went ahead with it because once I arrived at the venue the crowd wasn't at all an anxiety factor. Filipino moa are so incredibly kind enthusiastic and fun! I can't find enough nice words to say about everyone I met last night, be it waiting in line, taking photos for each other, exchanging freebies and photocards, navigating the venue together, and of course enjoying the concert together. Yeonjun was absolutely loving the crowd and he kept mentioning that they were the best among the entire tour and judging from fancams and having attended the Seoul concert myself I can definitely agree LOL no one can compete with filo moa!

I ended up sitting next to two middle aged women who were yeonjun stans and they were like "people think it's weird cause we're older than them but they (txt) remind me of my nephews and they feel like sons to me" and it made me want to say thank you someone gets it!!!! Fangirl love is much more than the reductionist love people assume fangirls have for boy bands. love and admiration come in so many forms and it's beautiful.

My favorite moments were the interactive moments they had with the crowd in between stages. They had a moment where they had the crowd copy what they were doing and saying, and soobin made moa shout "SOOBIN! You're a HOT GUY!" and it made all the members laugh. Kai had us say "Kai you're the best skrrrrrt" and everyone burst out laughing when the crowd did the skrrt part, like beomgyu genuinely lost it ahahahaha

Taehyun wasn't in the best condition unfortunately. it wasn't anything noticeable from an audience perspective but things started looking a bit off when he ran backstage twice during the ments of the other members. At first we thought he was just getting his in ear fixed, but when he disappeared a second time we were wondering what was up. He also looked pretty tired, and mentioned at the end of the concert that he felt a bit regretful because he wasn't feeling too great. However based on his vocals and dance I couldn't tell anything was off at all, like he has such a powerful voice and stage presence and it sucks knowing he didn't feel great :(

Kai and Beomgyu stole the show for me! I am absolutely bias wrecked by the birthday boy. He can belt some notes like damn. How do they do that?? Especially during blue hour and cysm when they're jumping so much for the chorus.

Can I just say I think soobin and I have a spiritual introvert connection cause seeing him being his usual awkward self on stage, shy from all the cheering and attention, and just generally being a bit of a dork, I felt this primal need to hug the guy and say SAME BESTIE

That kind of sums up the night - I felt like I was watching a group of friends who I met in college get up on stage and do some amazing shit but then chat with the crowd like they were on a stand up comedy skit. I think that's what I love so much about txt: they feel like your average silly dudes (dare I say a group of gay guys who you feel safe around or will that trigger the hetero fans lol) who then turn around after being all playful and unserious and pull off an incredibly professional and stellar show!

People can say what they want about parasocial relationships, but having this kind of connection with an artist is truly special and unforgettable. I've never experienced a concert like this where there was such a strong feedback loop of the fans giving the artist love and energy and them equally delivering it right back to us. It was a neverending cycle the whole night. The venue was so full of love, and I don't think I've laughed and smiled as much as I did yesterday in literal months. My heart feels so at ease.

Do you have any ideas on the Tails Squad?

I love the Tails Squad!!! The idea of all of those adorable fluffy foxes scurrying around together and going on adventures with each other is enough to make my heart melt. The fact that it exists makes me very happy! Thank you to whoever invented it!!! Thank you @heckinconfusedparade, @nights-nonsensical-ramblings, and any other creator for providing such adorable sceneries with them! It's the most wonderful thing on earth. It raised crops, cured every disease, and it made my year! I LOOOOOVE IT <3

The only thing that bothers me is that Nine (Sonic Prime) is in it as well. Don't get me wrong, Nine deserves hugs and snuggles (definitely by Sonic because he'd rip my face off if I tried, he's not as cuddly as the other Tails), but it just doesn't really make sense with his character and arc so far.

Nine is a loner, he avoids everyone to protect himself, and it's a firm coping mechanism (and as a person with trauma, a coping mechanism is NOT easy to break apart). Then he meets Sonic, he's given warmth and care and he latches onto Sonic, but nobody else. I noticed that Nine doesn't even seem to try to make friends or bond with the others because, in his mind, Sonic is the only friend he wants and needs. I also think Nine doesn't really like himself that much.

He isn't really prideful, more of a smug genius. Not an 'im better than you' but more an 'i look down on you to protect myself by seeing myself as superior to seem in control'. Not to mention he doesn't try to justify himself being bullied when he was telling Sonic his backstory, he says he 'wasn't paying attention to his surroundings', not I didn't know, or 'it wasn't my fault', he still blames himself.

So I don't think Nine loves himself. If he did he wouldn't have blamed himself for being bullied, he wouldn't have clung onto Sonic, and he would've been content to live by himself and left Sonic behind if he loved himself but he doesn't. So seeing these soft, nice, cuddly foxes he would see a smaller weaker version of himself. He wouldn't hate them specifically, just who they remind him of, which happens to be someone he loathes.

Himself.

He wouldn't be mean, he'd just be indifferent to them, polite but distant. Not considering them enemies, but not friends or allies either. If they don't get in his way they're not going to be attacked by him.

Self-loathing isn't something you can just take down easily, especially if you've had it for years due to other people calling you names and abusing you so much that you hide away, hide the things you were bullied for, and constantly blame yourself for what happened. With how far Nine is into it, I don't think he can be saved from the pit of hatred and pain.

It's horribly too late for that.

Some of you might be saying he could bond over being bullied because the other Tails were bullied too, and I'm sad to say it doesn't really work that way. People with trauma don't immediately become besties and form close bonds, most of the time, they're either animistic towards each other or avoid and keep their distance from each other to avoid being reminded of their own pain, and Nine would definitely do the latter firmly from his behavior so far.

Another thing is that the others have a Sonic of their own. Nine would not hate them, but he'd have a deeply repressed jealousy over them having the life he has dreamed of. Again, he wouldn't really hate them over this, he'd just merely have a painful pang of jealousy whenever that Tails and their Sonic would come up and embrace each other with such love and care, the things he was void of in his life.

I can see him bonding with the other Sonics, but it's only because Sonic himself is a coping mechanism for Nine and was the first one to give him affection. The other Sonic's are no different, so he latches onto them, but still keeps his distance due to them having their Tails right beside them. So hugs or head pats aren't accepted by Nine because it doesn't feel right to him, he doesn't deserve it, because he's not their Tails.

It would hurt every time seeing others given affection or he was offered affection that he can't have more than briefly, but he'd repress and hide it to not bother the others, or not to seem weak.

I actually have a prompt written out on how I think Nine would really react to the Tails Squad, if y'all want to see it, let me know and I'll post it!

But other than that, I have so, SO much love for the Tails Squad, but I can't see Nine being buddy-buddy with them. It's more of a neutral alignment, not enemies but not friends either.

So I just read enamored and I NEED all the girls from both garden of secrets and enamored to be besties they would be unstoppable! Like, CeCe would be the brains of the operation, Cherie would be the chaotic one but would always remind them all of their worth and to never settle for less, Clover would be the stoic bodyguard type so no one would mess with them, and Charlotte would be the optimistic one but who has the most emotional intelligence and is able to read emotions very well. And omg I just realized all of their names start with C! It's meant to be!

And I know it wouldn't be possible cause both Cherie and Charlotte are both Anthony's love interest, but I have a solution to that. Charlotte and Hugh (this breaks my Lothany heart, but hear me out) fall in love with each other. She would so just surprise him and one day it would just hit him that he's in love with Charlotte. And I know he said he doesn't want a marriage but if anyone can break him of that vow it would be sunshine personified! (Am I projecting my own love of Hugh onto him and Charlotte, yes. Am I gonna apologize for it, absolutely not!) And she would be such a great addition to their family like I can totally see her bonding with his sisters and just being such a great listener and influence on them! And because Hugh was so protective of his family, he falls more for her when he sees that she treats them with nothing but kindness!

And we know he would treat her right! (Anthony's a hot mess in Enamored and Charlotte deserves better than that lol) Also, I just realized that both Hugh and Clover came from abusive households, Charlotte is just a breath of fresh air and positivity who gives them all the love they missed out on growing up and I think that's beautiful. She's like a magnet for finding abandoned puppies and giving them a loving home���️.

Episode 9 of Under The Queen's Umbrella

I need Hwaryeong to burn it all down! Queen Dowager trying to kill Seongnam and Consort Ko giving Consort Hwang the painting of Prince Gyeseong? Yeah she needs to get them all!!!

Hwaryeong in earlier episodes said that Seongnam and Gyeseong are the most dependable/capable out of her grand princes and these past two episodes has shown us how and why! I love my boys and I love that we get to see them using their capabilities!

Park Gyeong-U and Seo Ham-Seok both have dodgy dealings going on and I wonder is that's why the King wants them to be brought to the palace and he used the royal edict/decree as a cover for investigating and subsequently bringing them into custody at the palace. I dunno I might be reading too much into it.

Park Gyeong-U is pocketing most of the money made from selling the blah blah shells (sorry I forgot the name of them) and Seo Ham-Seok is maybe plotting treason and targeting the eastern palace? I wonder if their agendas for why they're doing this align at all? Also who lives or works in the eastern palace? Who exactly are they targeting in the eastern palace?

Muan and Chowol are sweet and I really hope that they get to marry each other!

Chungha is a cutiepie and I love that Seongnam is getting used to and warming to her. Her buying the counting sticks and him making the boat wait for them and then him giving the sticks to the little girl was really sweet! I absolutely adore the look of joy/love/adoration that Chungha radiates everytime she talks to Seongnam. It's so cute! My sister is well and truly gone for him! Also I totally see myself in her and it's killing me! 💀💀 She's MUCH braver than I am though but I would definitely be like her in another life. Her and I would have been besties if I was living in this drama. Also wild that she's just off galavanting without her lady-in-waiting 💀 she left that letter about stalking her future-husband to her parents and they haven't seen her since 💀💀 I love that girl

It's so interesting that Seongnam/Chungha/Bogeum and travelling together because we saw earlier that if Bogeum wins the crown prince competition then it's likely that the Minister of War/Mr Yoon will most likely try to get Chungha to become his wife/crown princess since we saw Consort Tae visit him a few episodes ago. As to whether or not Bogeum will start to take a liking to Chungha is irrelevant because we all know she has eyes only for Seongnam. But it will be interesting to see how all three of them react to the potential bethrothal news, whenever that storyline comes into play.

King Lee Ho was right about Hwaryeong giving Queen Dowager an out by giving her that pint plant. I thought so too in the last episode. I understand that Hwaryeong isn't a perfect character but I feel like the writers keep making her underestimate her opponents and I don't understand why because she knows that they'll go low. But also I get that it stretches out the story a bit more and makes her more human and more vulnerable which makes for a more exciting watch. (the king: eternal monarch had this problem where the main male character was able to figure out his opponents maneuvers - it got cussed for this very reason (I didn't mind it but I like characters that are "mary-sue's" so not surprising))

The line about how his mother tried to kill his son and his wife tried to kill his mother and that he has no one to talk to about it did make me said for Lee Ho though. I don't feel sorry for the Queen Dowager but I understand how heavy it must be weighing on him. That man is so lonely. Again it reminds me of him calling Hwaryeong his best(?) and longest(?) friend and being most greatful for her friendship. That man loves her so much but also they have SO many issues!

Speaking of issues, Consort Tae through one of her maids is spreading rumours that's one of the princes' isn't the Lee Ho's son. Now which son is that in reference to? My guesses are either Seongnam or Uiseong. This rumour goes back to my theory that Seongnam is the son of one of Leeho's dead brothers. Did Hwaryeong have a thing with one of ex-Queen Yoon's sons before they were exiled and murdered? Also which son of ex-Queen Yoon's is still alive? Is my theory even correct, who knows?! For Prince Uiseong we've all caught onto the fact that Consort Hwang and Royal Physician Kwon were doing the nasty and so Uiseong might be his son. Now the question is which son did the Queen Dowager tell Consort Tae about?

The entire Simso arch broke my heart. Hwaryeong really is the epitome of "B I'm a mother! No drama!" (Lol all there is drama but you get what I mean!)

I'm so glad that Court Lady Shin found him and that Hwaryeong was fed him and made sure to check up on him this saving him from this attempt to die. Poor baby.

Consort Ko shouting at him about being a disappointment to her family name and saying that I would have better if he had died was awful and heartbreaking. The silent reconciliation - obviously it's going to take some time before they both, mainly Simso, can fully heal from this ordeal - between the two was sweet and I hope she lets him be now.

Hwaryeong being there for him and comforting him and basically telling him that it's okay to breathe alittle and try other things was really lovely. Very lovely and empathetic. Exactly what he needed.

Simso broke my heart and I hope that he'll heal because he didn't deserve to be left in the lurch like that by his mother and I hope he stays his sweet soft self.

Sidenote but I was disappointed that we didn't get to see Ilyoung and Hwaryeong reunite - after seeing Ilyoung and Hodong come back to the palace. I think that would have been a really sweet scene! Lol but I loved watching our two youngest boys come back! They clearly had a interesting time! I made me laugh when Hodong told Ilyoung that their trip turned him into a man 💀💀 I love those boys so much!!

Anyways I'm excited for episode 10 and again it was a great and enjoyable episode! As usual!

Ellie my dear i have come to impart college advice!! as a full time student who knows nothing else

first of all, proud of you for taking the step i'm sure this is freakier for you after a long school break than it was for me jumping into college right after high school. i'm just gonna answer the qs you put on that post but if there's anything else you wanna know about how i navigate it then ask away! i just pulled these off the top of my head so.. anyway good luck!

supplies: pen and paper obvs. you never know when you're gonna need some looseleaf. also, depending on how long you intend to be on campus all day i would also bring chargers and a water bottle. and then random stuff i always keep is like. hand sanitizer and lotion. don't always need them but sometimes i want them so they're nice to have. and a snack or two just in case!

bathroom: generally, yes, you can just up and leave without asking. if a professor is particular about it, usually they'll say so at the beginning of the semester, but most of them won't say anything if you get up for the bathroom or to take a call or whatever

note-taking: depends on both you and the professor. some professors are particular about laptop usage, but i think these days it's not a big deal. people also take notes on ipads etc. again, i prefer old fashioned paper and pencil and that's just a me thing, although sometimes i do have to use my laptop if they talk really fast

on a related note, you maybe know this but just reminding you bc i have to remind myself every semester. be nice to yourself the first month or so. it takes a while to adjust to each class's style, and you may bomb an assignment or two before you figure out how to study for a particular class, but that is okay as long as you keep working toward improvement. especially since you haven't been taking classes for a while, it might take a bit to kickstart yourself into it, so be gentle with yourself

make sure to balance your life! i get sucked into this a lot as a full time student who goes crazy about setting expectations for herself, but make sure you make time to take care of yourself. this means sleep, showers, socializing, and doing other things you deem fun. also as far as studying, pace yourself and try not to cram (i am so bad at this but i'm going to say it anyway)

try to make connections! you're not going to love everyone you meet, but you might be surprised by some friendships you can cash in on later. ie, me rn pulling relatively large favors from people i met in lab. you don't have to be besties with everyone, but it also gets lonely if you don't make a few casual friends here and there.

C: What character do you identify with most?

Garou. I've always gravitated towards overtly angry, troublesome male characters and I've recently come to suspect it has something to do with gender: growing up, I felt a lot of anger/frustration/confusion over my identity (not my gender identity, necessarily, but more like How to Human as an Autistic person). To navigate this, I over-corrected by confirming to whatever my idea of femininity was, in the worst possible way. (I guess I would say I'm a cis-female but I've never really cared that much).

Since I spent a lot of my adolescence trying to make myself smaller and weaker (because that's how I thought girls/women were supposed to be), I suspect if I had been AMAB I would have focused on becoming bigger and stronger.

In any case, I understand the quiet desperation of exercising until you pass out because of that lingering sensation of not-enoughness.

I also talked a bit about spending seven years with a toxic mentor that was frustratingly competent about a bunch of stuff (but just... horribly misguided when it came to personal relationships), and when I use one of the techniques he taught me (whatever Fist of Flowing Water Crushed Rock is, but for emotions), I inevitably flash back to that scene with Garou and the Tank-Top Gang ("I hate using this because it reminds me of him--").

Anyway, after that I left that job I went to touch grass/do something completely different (work in a yoga studio) because I just needed to... scrub toilets and fold a bunch of towels and untangle all the things I'd learned that were (in a sense) true, versus the concepts I wanted to embody and believe in and manifest. Additionally, my experience working there also informs some of the scenes I write with Garou in the dojo (mostly him griping about how nobody seems to take chores as seriously as he does, or how he keeps finding other people's underwear in weird places with literally no logical explanation for why that might be).

L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

A thousand times, possibly a billion.

Just kidding, but it feels like too many. (The first chapter of Collateral Damage took me like eight months...I probably should have put it on ice for a bit, honestly)

Fic was my way of learning to write again, and I've never written any longform fiction, so multi-chapter fic in particular have been an experiment in how my brain works, and the tools I need to efficiently craft a story. If there are multiple layers to a scene, I don't always have the mental processing power to work out each aspect at once (what the character's say vs. what they mean, what they do / how they do it / what this indicates about them, plus any undercurrents of narrative tension or symbolism or whatever). So that's been a whole thing. I think I'm getting better at it, though. Flumptober Sexy Chess scene had a lot going on (and completely derailed all my deadlines), but knowing that I can labor on a beloved chapter for weeks instead of months was... a milestone, honestly.

"Kill your darlings before they kill you" is my new mantra, and unfortunately I had to learn that the hard way.

U: Share three of your favourite fic writers and why you like them so much.

@beileil, you're one of my favorite authors because of the way you blend so many things: humor, plot (specifically mystery), characterization and lovely prose. Even in an AU, the characters are very much themselves but they're also new and unique. One of my bad writing habits is that I will sometimes skip over description if it doesn't really speak to me, but with your stories I hang on every word--I remember reading the Hero Detective Agency and feeling completely emerged in that universe from the beginning.

@sharuruwrites, I think you are excellent at putting characters in Situations. I like how you manage to zoom in on some of the grittier aspects of characters (like how bloodthirsty Toji and Sukuna can be, or how Gojo is So Very Immature and Extra) and, without glossing them over, somehow make these traits more endearing (or at least understandable/relatable). I feel like every scene and small detail moves towards some sort of purpose, and if I blink, I'll miss something.

I guess my third favorite fic writer is my brother. I wonder if he remembers that we used to write silly stories about Mario sometimes (I was 12 or 13 which means he was 9 or 10, so I was probably typing while he was dictating). I am both insatiably curious and afraid to ask. In any case, he's still a hilarious storytelling and I hope to write more (original) things with him some day.

Ok now I'm curious about your thoughts on tmt s post chain of thorns dynamic. (I agree that separating was the right call bc I feel like they were a little to codependent on each other 😭)

I think it depends on who we're talking about when it comes to codependence. I don't think that the problem really extends to Thomas or Christopher - their friendship seemed really healthy, and they both had good boundaries with the rest of the group. Kit's death is definitely going to throw a wrench in the works. I think that at first, Thomas will be worried that he will be excluded a bit because they previously had lumped off into Matthew/James and Thomas/Christopher. But, since they're separating post-ChoT, I don't think this is going to be a serious issue.

I really like James and Matthew's friendship, actually - it's by far the best thing about James, and I love that he by and large gives Matthew a place to be himself and find refuge. Matthew confiding in him is wonderful, and I love his unconditional love for Matthew no matter what he does. (Because, bestie, SAME!)

But Matthew is... better in a lot of ways, but still not in a good place with Cordelia/James at the end of ChoT. I think that he needs to quit Cordelia in the same way as he quit drinking. An absolute period of no-contact is essential, and I think his Voyage is great because it provides that in a kind of built-in framework. (I think his Voyage is great for many reasons and was a natural conclusion for the character, but that's a talk for another day).

Part of quitting Cordelia is, necessarily, taking distance from James as well. They're married (and pretty unhealthily - if I do say so myself.) The Voyage provides a way to do this, too.

When Matthew gets back, he will hopefully have his own person. Which will be great, and will help him get over Cordelia a lot. But I think that Cordelia, and her marriage with James, and what that means, is always going to hurt Matthew at least a little bit. And, much like having alcohol in his house screams temptation, James and Cordelia will always be a little reminder of a bleak past where he wasn't doing well. They'll always be that temptation, regardless of whether Matthew is in love with Cordelia or not. They're not temptation toward Cordelia, but a temptation toward old, unhealthy ways of the past.

I think that, while it will likely not happen in CC's canon, James and Matthew growing apart a bit is a) a natural outcome of ChoT's events, and b) the best possible outcome for Matthew's mental health.

But what about Thomas?

Thomas has undoubtedly lost the person he was closest with in TMT, and I hate that for him. Especially because Thomas and Christopher had such a good dynamic. But, after Christopher dies, he has Alastair, which is good. He's a talisman against pain and grief. He's a sliver of bright, wonderful joy and light in what I think was overall a shit sandwich of an ending for Thomas.

I think that over time, as Matthew and James drift apart, Thomas would/should nurture friendships with each of them individually. This would position him as the apex of TMT. and a much healthier crux than James or Matthew would be.

However, I think that Thomas would naturally remain closer with Matthew than he would with James. This is partly because Thomas and Matthew have been lifelong friends; this is partly because Thomas and Matthew have wonderful dispositions that rub along perfectly together. They have a lot of shared experiences, and it's worth noting that Thomas told Matthew that he loved Alastair first and Matthew told Thomas he needed to stop his drinking first. This closeness would be exascerbated because of Alastair, who I firmly believe Matthew will be extremely close with in a few years' time.

Additionally, James has Jesse now, and ChoT positions them as an obvious budding BFF duo. This makes a lot of sense to me as they're basically the same character they have similar dispositions, personalities, and life positions.

So, in the end, I think that the group will shift into two basic categories:

Matthew

Matthew's partner

Thomas

Alastair (who is also very close with Cordelia)

Grace (Alastair's BFF, obviously, and a reminder of Kit for Tom)

And,

James

Cordelia (who is also very close with Alastair)

Lucie

Jesse (I think Grace should not make up with him, actually!)

...OR, this would be what would happen in an ideal world. Alastair and Cordelia are the strongest tie between the groups. I do not think that in Magical Shadowhunter Happy Land it will happen. But in the healthiest realistic scenario, this is what I think.

Of course, James and Matthew would still be friends. Close friends. Parabatai. But not... Like They Are. And I think that, in the end, that's for the best.

OMG! Bestie! Joel and Bambi's interactions are sooooo much!!!!! 😱😍I loved the chapter so much that I'm not even annoyed at the cliffhanger at the end! Is it your intention to overstuff us with so much fluff and sweetness we won't get too mad when all the angst comes? I don't care if it's or not. I take it all anyway! LOL.🤣

Joel opening Bambi's gift reminded me of the first episode when Sarah gave him his birthday present. Reading your words, I pictured him having a similar expression, surprised but all happy and elated, and feeling all the thought and work Bambi has put into the guitar strap. They care so much for each other! Seeing her so comfortable with Joel, craving his touch and company, and being able to tease him and Tommy makes me so happy for her. I could keep going like this for hours, so I should better not start talking about the forehead kiss… I will only say my smile couldn't have been bigger as I read it, and the whole moment bantering about the movie and the movie itself! This chapter was a pleasure to read.

What surprised me was the feeling I got after reading the chapter. Usually, I tend to overthink what'll happen next, especially when I feel we're getting into the thick of the plot, but not this time. Don't get me wrong, I still have lots of questions, and I'm still dying a little bit wanting to read the next chapter, but this time, I felt peaceful, like I was happy just waiting and being here for the ride with fellow readers and being surprised with each update. I don't know if I'm explaining myself or just rambling, soo…. I'll just say thank you for this chapter and this beautiful story that has craved a sweet place in my heart.♥️♥️♥️

And OMG Joel was trying SO HARD to be chill when opening Bambi's gift. He was so touched and excited but also like "NOPE SHE'LL FREAK OUT IF YOU FREAK OUT GOTTA BE CALM ABOUT THIS DON'T. SPOOK. THE. PRETTY. GIRL. STAY. CALM." They're just so closely bonded now that I can't, I can't with them I love them so much and just... yeah. I know I wrote it but it really doesn't feel like I did much? I feel like I watched these two fall in love with each other and then just wrote down what they did, I'm nothing but an observer and I just adore them.

Next chapter is going to be big. Very very big. Lots is going to happen. So much. I'm not sure how long it's going to take me to write honestly because I'm debating about breaking up this chunk into multiple chapters so it's not too much? I'm not sure what the answer is yet but it will be out within the next few days. It's what I'm writing next (after this one shot that I'm working on right now) and I might write this whole chunk and then decide about a chapter break if I think it needs one and put things up close together... anyway, I gotta figure it out.

Do you ever think about Chimney's love and devotion to Hen Wilson and cry? How he sees her and learns from her and relies on her and shows up for her, in particular ways that only he can? How he accepts her love and care, too?

The way that they met, how Chim saw their shared experience — as people of color in that racist-ass firehouse — and also was fully open to learning from her about where they very much were not the same? But he didn't get scared away or back off?  Because Chimney Han is THE exemplar of nourishing masculinity? He said "I will do the work, I will show up for you and I will not let you be alone. Also, by the way, we're gonna transform this fucking place. Because you help me to see what could be possible, to see a power inside myself that I didn't know was there." And then they did?

Do you ever think about Chim falling asleep with an infant Denny on his chest, the fan blowing on them, the vacuum cleaner running? Because he promised his friend a — brand new parent — he would take care of their child and he damn well meant it?

Do you think about when Chimney took the gift Eli gave him, Eli seeing deep into Chimney's soul, who he is — a healer and a caregiver — and giving him essential words of wisdom about the burden that comes with that responsibility? How to hold it and carry it? How Chim sees deep into Hen's soul, who she is, and is able to remind her in a moment of terrible crisis? "Hen, you are the best caregiver that I know. So you do whatever you need to do to heal you, because the world needs you back. And so do I."

"To be seen, to be found, isn't that what we're all looking for?" I know Buck and Eddie own this line, but it's very much in the 911 mission statement about all of them. Including Chim and Hen.

I'm thinking about what an incredible friend Chim is. Care to share your favorite Chim + Hen moments? Other moments of him showing up as a friend for the 118? I'll take all of it, please. (Please feel free to also include them being stupid partners in crime because they're just a goddamn delight).

Chimney and Hen's friendship is so important. SO important. Because, yeah, Chimney's relentless commitment to overcoming hardship and finding joy set the tone for what the 118 would become, but it wasn't until Hen came on board and these two joined forces that the 118 vision started to come to fruition. These two built the familial warmth of the 118. Their friendship is the heart of the 118, because it is an illustration of the values that the firehouse holds dear, the values that we see each of the future members work to achieve and uphold.

I am endlessly emotional about this relationship, and Chimney helping Hen as a new mother, and now Hen being there for Chimney as a new father, and how they know each other so thoroughly. . . . whew.

As for moments of Chimney being amazing, I'm always thinking about that scene in season 1 when he shows up for Bobby during the storyline where we find out Bobby has that super rare blood. It is such a raw moment, and we see the relationship between Bobby and Chimney is not just one of colleagues, but one of deep and mutual respect. Chimney wasn't always a fan of Bobby's, not even in early season 1, and so to see this growth and connect throughout that season, and then throughout the show? *chef's kiss* simply amazing.
