I find it so bizarre that I’ve seen some of your anons say they remember when she got super famous around 2008… as an international ex-swiftie I can tell you right now that is so far from the reality at least on a global scale. Maybe in the USA she was super famous then but she was still relatively unknown until the whole Kanye VMA situation, and even then only a small number of people knew her for her music itself. I was a fan since her first album but she wasn’t like an overnight global success (tbh I think she hates that she wasn’t cause it definitely feels like she tries to make it seem like she was). And when she did start to become “Taylor Swift” the brand it was NOT COOL to like her. In fact I remember being picked on for liking her. Like why would I like that lame country singer. Country music is lame. It wasn’t till 1989 that she became cool to like her (I could argue I Knew You Were Trouble but for the sake of it I’ll say 1989). Then the whole Kanye 2.0 situation and she went into “hiding” (aka didn’t call paparazzi on herself). Then Reputation is where I think people were back on the Taylor train. She’s not really fallen from grace since well until now. I just find it interesting the perception she was a mega star in 2008 when I don’t think globally she was till 2014/2016. And even then most of the success for her music followed personal drama that increased her fame not the other way around. Don’t get me wrong she has always been in the public eye but definitely more of an American Celebrity than a global one for the most part of the start of her career. Even now I see a lot of other international people saying she’s not got a large global pull like she does in the USA. She’s no Michael / Madonna / Janet / Britney / Beyoncé.

thank you for this ask this is so insightful. im american if it isnt super obvious already enough but she’s always been big here. idk if other americans are aware of this but we’re an incredibly self centered country and assume whatever the american opinion is is the default global opinion which is fundamentally not true. she’s always been big here and her blowing up around 1989 (or her full shift to pop) makes sense. she makes really catchy pop music (if i accidentally hear a song it will get stuck in my head for days) and isn’t vocally challenging to sing along with.

i feel like the eras tour is her establishing herself as a global force on par with michael/madonna/beyoncé/britney etc. but it isn’t really sticking. like it is financially but also…its not? idk i just feel like she doesn’t have that IT factor no matter how much she tries to fabricate it through other means. her brand is not her music (despite being her being the first billionaire solely off her music) its being Taylor Swift™️
idk. only time will tell her actual legacy but she will go down as a musician whose 4 AOTYs did not deserve their awards. and i got so sidetracked but yes swifties do overhype the timeline of her intl fame to fuel their delusion over her

Queen of what now? (Mary Earps x reader)
A/N: I’m sorry this took so long. I hope you guys like it! Also, I’m going through a big Mary Earps phase right now so this was very fun to right.
Were you there to support friends, accompany a team mate or to see someone who has been on your mind for the last 104 days? You knew it was the latter but if someone one were to ask you would say a mixture of the first and second.
“I can’t believe you came with me. You have to be back in Barcelona tomorrow” Jana asks as you leave the hotel.
What she said was true. You picked up a calf injury during the El Classico which made you unavailable for the international break. It did mean that you could go to England but only for the night.
“It’s Wembley and I’m here to support Keira and Lucy” was it a lie? No. Was it the whole truth? Absolutely not.
“If that’s true why aren’t you wearing one of their shirts?”
The shirt you chose to wear, the England one, wasn’t on show but Jana saw you put it on before leaving the hotel. Now she was digging but you didn’t bite.
“Because I didn’t swap shirts with them”
Your answer seems to please the young defender because she didn’t continue her interrogation. Instead the conversation steered towards the game and how it would end. Jana, here to support Jill, favourited the Dutch but you knew the difference a home crowd could make and when you put those fans in Wembley stadium, England become a different team. You also have the upmost faith in the woman between the sticks, the same one that would captain the team.
You walk down Wembley way, taking in the atmosphere and stopping for as many fans as you can.
“You quite popular for someone who beat England in the final” Jana remarks.
“I’m still not used to it and I can’t say I’m a big fan of the attention”
Your performance throughout the season with Barcelona and during the summer at the World Cup earned you the most coveted trophy in football: The Balón d’Or. Since then you had been exposed to a spotlight, one which wasn’t always welcome.
It was cold in England, in fact to your Spanish blood it was freezing. The moment you entered the stadium you got a hot chocolate and went to your seat. When Mary joked about you coming to game she told you that she would put some tickets aside for the family section but when Leah saw that you were at Wembley she invited you to watch the game from one of the boxes with her and Millie.
You didn’t really know the defender well but you appreciated the invite. The first half was less than great so not a lot was said. You could tell the two blondes were getting stressed but Jana was loving it.
The moment the ball crossed the line for the second goal you knew Mary would punish herself for it.
“Mantén la calma” you wish she could hear you.
“Oh Mary, keep your head up” Leah says from beside you.
“She will blame herself” you add.
“She is. I know that because she’s my team mate. How exactly do you know what she’s thinking?”
“A guess”
The look the Arsenal player gives you lets you know she doesn’t believe you but the whistle is blown for half time before she can question you further.
The people is the room seem to split up for the half time break. You stick with Jana who is obviously having more fun than the rest of the box.
“Dial down the celebrations J, we are in an England box” you whisper to her during half time.
“Jill’s winning though” Jana says innocently.
“Maybe save your celebrations until after the game when you are with her” you raise your eyebrows playfully.
“Fine” she agrees to keep her cheering to a minimum not that it makes a difference because the second half is in England’s favour.
You can’t believe what you are seeing. First Georgia Stanway scores then Lauren Hemp scores two minutes later. As a football fan you were taking it all in. 71,000 people were on their feet as they celebrate the possibly of a come back.
When Ella Toone scores in the 91st minute you can feel the stadium shaking. You couldn’t believe what you were seeing.
The whistle blows and you see the blonde beside you breathe a sigh of relief.
“That was quite the performance by your team Leah” it was a compliment but in a professional way.
“It was. I take it you are here to see Lucy and Keira?” Leah asks.
“No, ella no es” Jana says from your side.
“Cállate” you shake your head whilst being thankful that Leah didn’t speak Spanish.
“The girls, as well as some of the Dutch team,” Leah looks at Jana as she says that part “are going to a bar called Three Lions. I’m not sure if you have plans but I will let the security know to expect you”
“Gracias Leah. I have something I need to do but I’ll come”
“Me too” Jana also accepts the invite before turning to you once Leah has gone “Jill already invited me. What do you have to do? Nobody knows you are in London”
“Somebody does and I want to see her before anyone else. If anyone asks just tell them I had a call”
And that is what is what Jana does. By the time everyone arrived to the Three Lions bar news has spread that you attended the game. You, as planned, texted a certain goalkeeper and asked her to meet you at a different part of the stadium. Her reply wasn’t words, it was a thumbs up to your message.
The way she walked towards you told you everything you needed to know. Her gaze was on the floor with her shoulders hunched.
Much to your surprise Mary is the first to talk.
“I can’t believe you came” she stands less than a meter in front of you but doesn’t move closer. You may have been talking every day but you hadn’t seen her in person since the final and you desperately wanted to hug her.
“You asked me to”
“I did but you weren’t sat in the seats I sent you tickets for and you’re injured so I thought that maybe you had to stay in Barcelona”
“People saw me and it became a bit much so Leah invited me to watch the game with her in the box”
“Does she know —“
“No. She assumed I was here to watch Lucy and Keira. I didn’t correct her”
Here’s the thing. Nobody knew about you and Mary. The reason why things were so good between you was because there was no pressure to label it, no interference from your friends and no need to force anything.
You saw the way her face dropped and you knew her well enough to know the reason why.
“I’m wearing your shirt” you un tie your coat and pull your hoodie down revealing the green England shirt “they may think I’m here for my team mates but I’m here for you Mary”
“You picked a bad game to come and watch”
“Mary—“
“Don’t. Don’t tell me it wasn’t my fault”
“I wasn’t going to. I know better than to tell someone how to feel after a game” you grab her hand a pull her towards some seating where you pull her down next to you “What I was going to say is that moments like that are a tough pill to swallow but it was a mistake and the best players in the world make them”
“I let the team and the fans down. I let my family and you down”
You hated seeing Mary this distraught. She was normally so full of energy and confident. This wasn’t a side you were familiar with.
“You didn’t. There are people in that room over there” you point the bar behind you “that are proud of you and as for me, well you could never let me down Mary. I swear to you”
Mary couldn’t help the smile that grew on her face. In a moment when she was down, you managed to lift her up. When she feels you reassuringly rub her thigh she leans onto your shoulder.
“You’re quite a big deal here Mary. I saw young girls wearing your shirt and many people wearing scarfs with your face on. I didn’t know you had a nickname” you took a pause as you try to remember what the green scarfs said.
Mary sees you struggling to remember the fan given nickname so she helps you out.
“Mary Queen of stops” her mumble is barely audible.
“Queen of what?” You didn’t hear her.
“Stops. The fans call me Mary Queen of stops”
You only hum in response. Maybe you knew what the fans called her but she needed to hear it too. If for no other reason than to reinstate some confidence.
When Mary stands she holds her hands out to help you up. You walk side by side but she stops before you get the door, far enough that you both are still out of side but close enough that her nerves are building.
“Will you take this off?” The keeper tugged at the drawstring on your hoodie.
“But it’s cold, no?”
Mary felt ridiculous for suggesting it yet she didn’t want to give you her reason. As embarrassment flushed her cheeks, Mary’s gaze found every part of the room that wasn’t your face.
“It’s stupid, forget I said anything”
She doesn’t wait for you to respond and instead walks towards the bar. She assumes that you are right behind her but it is only when she opens the door for you does she realise that you haven’t moved.
“Y/N”
“Mary” with you stood rooted in place it leaves mary with no option other than to return to where she was mere seconds ago “Are you cold? Is that why you want me to take it off. Here, you can have it” without further question you give Mary the hoodie.
“I’m not cold. I want them to see you in my shirt. I want them to know that you came here to support me and that you still do”
“They will have questions”
“Let them ask, It doesn’t mean we have to answer them” Once again Mary leads you to the door put again she stops “Can I wear this?” She holds up your hoodie that she is still carrying.
You nod your head and the smile that appears on her face must be infectious because you are soon grinning ear to ear.
When you enter the bar you try your hardest not to attract any attention but Mary’s absence seems to have worried her team mates and her family because she is pulled away from you.
You didn’t know what to do. You didn’t want to stand by yourself so you search for the three women who you actually know. Lucky for you the three of them are together with the addition of Jill, Beth and Viv.
“Nice shirt” Lucy nudges you.
“Was it a gift from our keeper or—“
“We swapped” you saw no harm and you hoped that telling the little truths might get you out of revealing the big ones.
You wasn’t really involved in the conversation taking place between the English and the Dutch. Something that Jana was quick to pick up on. You watched Mary from a distance as her parents pulled her into their arms, something you desperately wanted to do earlier.
“Go see her. It’s why you’re here” Jana detaches herself from Jill’s hip to talk to you.
“She’s with her family” you say just loud enough for the young defender to hear you. Whilst doing so you turn around so it isn’t obvious that the goalkeeper is the only person you are interested in.
“She is but she is looking at you, oh she want your attention”
Jana was telling the truth because when you turn back around Mary is calling you over. You shake your head, now wasn’t the time for her to introduce you to her parents. Mary on the other hand thought differently because before you can run away she is walking towards you, grabbing your hand and leaving you with no choice other than to follow her.
“Mary, no”
“Y/N, yes”
You suddenly felt nervous. Not necessarily for meeting her mum and dad but to find out how she would introduce you. It wasn’t a conversation you have had yet and you weren’t ready to hear that she didn’t feel the same way as you or even worse she felt nothing at all.
“Mum, dad. This is Y/N, she is—“
“The woman that you won’t shut up about”
Mary cheeks flushed red but she didn’t deny it, in fact she confirmed it.
“It is, she is. She is also the reason why I was late”
Her parent give you both a look, one which isn’t warranted. It does let you both know that they think something else happened and that is the reason for you both arriving later than everyone else.
“We were talking” you were quick to correct their thoughts.
“She calmed me down” Mary slightly squeezes your hand as a thank you.
“Well Y/N, we know how hard on herself Mary is so thank you being there. As her parents it makes us very happy to know that she does let someone in and listens to them”
The woman in question simply listens to what her parents were telling you. Is that really what she had done? Had she let you in without realising?
“She is a good person and she needs to learn that she cannot blame herself for what happens on the pitch” at this point you turn to Mary “We play a team sport. Win or lose, we do it as a team. She isn’t alone”
You mean ever word you said. You spoke as a player who knew what Mary was feeling but the last part you said sincerely. As long as Mary wanted you around then she wouldn’t be alone, ever.
“Can I buy you a drink?” Mary asks.
“Porfa”
You say goodbye to her parents and go to the emptiest spot at the bar.
“I just met your parents” you cannot help but laugh a little.
“Was that ok? They wanted to meet you after I told them about you”
“What did you tell them?” You take a look around. You were surrounded by people, maybe a more private setting was best for the ‘what are we’ talk.
“That I met a girl in Australia. When I was at my lowest she showed up and got me to smile through my tears. Every day I look forward to talking to her, I wait for her texts and our FaceTimes are the best part of my day”
You looked at Mary with a foreign feeling in your gut. You could compare it to butterflies but that didn’t seem like justice. When she moves forward to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear you don’t flinch. In fact you welcome to closeness.
“Carino, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to kiss you now” Mary’s tone is confident but the look on her face didn’t convey the same confidence.
“I won’t stop you but look around. People are —” The woman standing opposite knew exactly what you were going to say but she didn’t care. Her focus was on one thing; you.
Everything with Mary has been new but the way she kissed you felt familiar, as if this wasn’t your first kiss. Your body was screaming for you to deepen the kiss, to strengthen the connection but you knew you would have to wait. Mary obviously faces the same conflict only she has given in to her desires. You have to push her away when you felt her tongue on your lips.
“Mary, we can’t do this here”
“But I want to”
She leans back in for more but only gets a peck on the lips.
“Cálmate”
Mary felt frustrated but she really couldn’t complain. She had been dreaming of kissing you for months now and every scenario she came up failed in comparison to the real thing.
“Will you come back to the hotel tonight? We don’t have to share a room. You can stay with Keira or Lucy”
“I have a very early flight in the morning Mary” you wished you could stay but you needed to go home and you could not miss your flight.
“I know but please, I’m not ready to say goodbye to you yet”
“I don’t want to either but I can’t” Mary’s head dipped in disappointment and it wasn’t a sight that you liked “Maybe I could spend a few hours there and then go back to my hotel”
“You have yourself a deal” Mary was happy to compromise.
Later on you went back to the hotel where the England team was staying. As imagined you were subject to a lengthy interrogation by her team mates. You answered most questions and then played the ‘I don’t understand the English’ card when you didn’t want to answer certain ones. You barely left Mary’s side the entire night which only made your departure worse. She was adamant on walking you to your car and you didn’t fight her on it.
“Thank you for coming tonight” Mary says as she opens your door for you.
“I had fun” you absentmindedly run your finger of your lips as you mind wanders to the multiple kisses you and Mary had throughout the night “I have come to London, now it’s your turn to come Barcelona”
It wasn’t a bad deal. The sun was shining in Barcelona, whereas it hasn’t been seen for days in London.
“I’ll be there as soon as my schedule allows it” Mary hated that she couldn’t just hop on a plane and come see you.
This was the hard part. You and Mary could find time to text, call and FaceTime but in person visits were difficult due to your schedule and the year the two of you had. You were only able to visit because of your injury and as much as you knew you would miss Mary, you didn’t want her schedule to become clear for the same reason.
“Until then we will make it work. We have done so far and look where it has lead us”
“I certainly didn’t think my night would end with me kissing you”
“It hasn’t”
Mary leaned forward and quickly stole a kiss.
“It has now”
You couldn’t help but laugh at her antics.
“I need to go now”
“I know. Call me when you get back to your hotel”
Once in the car, Mary watches you drive away. There is a pain in her chest as she already misses your company. You do end up FaceTiming her that night although it is different now. Seeing her face on the screen was nice but it didn’t compare to being with her in person. Still, you enjoyed your night with her and on the other end of the line Mary was already planning her trip to Barcelona. If the two of you have learnt one thing that night it was that you both wanted each other and you were willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.

Idk if you’ve done this before (you can ignore this if you have) but how would each of the Pedro guys react if you told them you were pregnant?
**So I have done the pregnancy HC before, but that was when there were few boys, so lets add on to it.....
When They Find Out You’re Pregnant:
Javier: Shocked. No clue why because it wasn’t like either one of you were exactly practicing safe sex. Condoms were hardly ever used and you weren’t on birth control. He’s going to internally panic for a bit, disappearing into his work. He won’t disappear on you, he will drag into the apartment after you are asleep and get up before you do. Eventually coming to terms with the fact that he needs to be a better man and he comes home to tell you that he is all in.
Ezra: Worried. The life of a prospector and a floater is not the kind of life he wants for his child. He won’t articulate those worries, instead sleeping less and thinking long into the night while he has his hand on your womb. When he starts to form a plan for a life you can have that doesn’t include the danger of your current lives, he will wake you up, regardless of the hour to start excitedly laying out the plan.
Mando: Stoic. You can’t tell from the impassive view of his visor what he is thinking. Until the Crest goes dark and suddenly you hear his helmet thunk on the grated floor. Passionate lips overwhelm yours as he tries to show you what he is feeling. After he kisses you breathlessly, he will finally speak. “We will raise warriors cyar’ika. Marry me.”
Catfish: He is shocked and excited. He already has a child that he loves beyond comprehension. Never thinking he would have another kid after the divorce, so when you tell him that you are pregnant, he’s just in awe. Scoops you up into his arms and kisses you.
Tovar: A satisfied glint is in that grumpy Spaniards eyes. He was expecting it, never having bothered to pull away when he finally cums. “Good hermosa.” He tugs you into his arms and his large, war calloused hand cups your stomach possessively. “Maybe those bastards will stop sniffing around your skirts when they think I am not looking.”
Whiskey: Panicked. Nothing to do with you. But the damned fear of losing a second family terrifies him like nothing Statesman could ever throw at him. He’s going to need a bit. He’s really quiet and leaves for a mission. Until he realizes how it looks to you. That you might think that he doesn’t want you or that baby. Then you can expect his broken explanation as he begs you for forgiveness and to give an old fool another change at happiness. With you and the baby.
Max Phillips: ????????????? Lucy, you got some ‘splaining to do!(although once he finds out it is his….this frat boy vamp will be nervous as fuck. Will it be like him? Will it be like you? Will it be like some kind of mixed best of both worlds? And GOD FORBID you have a little girl. He will be beside himself. You have to tell him not to eat the little boy in her class that kissed her on the playground.)
Marcus Pike: Crying. Tears of fucking joy after making sure that this is what you want. He will be on cloud nine. You are carrying his baby and he just doesn’t know if he could possibly love you more than right now. There were times that he didn’t know if it was going to happen for him, love and a family. And you’ve just given him the world. 100% alllllll in.
Oberyn: Celebrates with you in the most obvious way. By taking you to bed of course. After exhausting you with pleasure, he will stroke your stomach and tell you how much he will love watching you expand with his child. Does admit that he would prefer that you refrain from your more…..risqué endeavors while you are carrying, for the health of the babe. Rest assured your prince with treat you like a queen.
Dave York: Proud. Extremely proud. He might not be what some would consider a good man, but he loves his children. He’s good with them. When Alice and Molly were little, he would change diapers and get up at 2am feedings with no complaint. Now he has a chance to do this again and he’s thrilled. You can tell from the way that he starts planning. He’s a planner, so immediately he starts getting things ready for the baby. As soon as he is done spreading you out and gently making you cum.
Max Lord: Overwhelmed....He already cannot give Alistair the life he wants for his young son. Cannot give him everything that his heart desires and it tears him up. His eyes are wide, almost devastated and he feels the extra weight of another’s happiness heaping down on his shoulders. She’s always wanted a sibling and now she gets one.
Zach Wellison: Panicked. Like glazed eyes, heavy breathing panicked. He’s still not completely adapted to the idea that he’s not longer on the streets and he has a job that supports him. That he has a home to sleep under a roof every day. All the things that support that a baby would need immediately flashes through his mind. Only you wrapping your arms around him will bring him back to reality and he immediately hugs you close, promise you that he will take care of you and the little bean.
Javi G: Ecstatic. Overjoyed and tears spring up to his eyes. He is blubbering like a baby and he isn't ashamed of it. He loves the idea of you carrying his baby, basically blubbering about how much he loves you and how much he already loves his baby. He will be nothing like his father, your baby will know how much they are loved. His hands are all over your stomach, caressing the area where his child is safely nestled.
Dieter Bravo: He’s high as a fucking kite when you tell him, but then again, when isn’t he? He frowns at you in confusion and looks down at your stomach for a second before looking at your face again. “How?” He asks stupidly, as if constantly asking you to have sex with him wouldn’t result in a pregnancy.

One last Malta-related post to bore you all before I finally move on to other topics:
A favorite pastime of mine when I have the chance to travel is to search out small museums, ones that are "off the beaten path" and not thronged by tourists at every hour of the day. This has had some wonderful benefits--I'll never forget, for example, perusing the wax anatomical models at the Museo "La Specola" in Florence, or the Arabic decorative tiles at the Leighton House in London. In that tradition, I wanted to let you know that if you ever have the chance to visit Malta, do not miss the Malta Postal Museum.
I freely admit that I was unsure whether it would be worth the time: "A museum about the history of postage and the postal service? In a country with a population of half a million? Why bother?" I'm so glad I overcame my hesitations. The museum's stamp collection traces the entire modern history of the Maltese archipelago, from the very first halfpenny stamps issued early in Queen Victoria's reign to celebrations of the papal visits in the 2000s, and is fascinating in itself; but what really makes the museum worthwhile is its illustrated tour of how "the mail has gone through" under different occupiers (the Knights of St. John, the French, the British) and under the most trying of circumstances (naval blockade, plague outbreak, wartime censorship). Short, well-produced films help illuminate the many letters in the collection and don't shy away from some of the more unpalatable aspects of Maltese history, such as the British haste in June 1940 to intern anyone suspected of pro-Italian sympathies, a policy that (as so often in wartime) ran roughshod over civil liberties. More than just a history of the post, it's a unique window on the broader history of Malta, reminding us that even something as humdrum as delivering the mail on time can be an essential part of social infrastructure.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. But seriously, if you ever find yourself in Valletta, the Malta Postal Museum should definitely be on your itinerary.

We're super excited to announce our second edition of the Sloane Washington Appreciation Week! After receiving some wonderful pieces last year, we can't wait to celebrate our wonderful, iconic "Science Queen" again! Here's a look at last year's entries!
As with last year, we will be celebrating her week around the same time the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is held (Feb 11th). We've also got a few new and very cute themes this time around - including some of Sloane's interests.
This event will be held from February 7th to February 11th, 2023. Any content is welcome, as long as it is positive and Sloane-focused: fic, art, edits, moodboards, meta, headcanons, interactive media - even simple appreciation text posts! You can even post your favourite Sloane scene.
Most of the days will have two different themes, so you can choose which one you'd like to do your piece on and tag it accordingly. Here are the themes for each day:
Feb 7th: Character Appreciation/Throwback
Feb 8th: Penguins/Greek Mythology
Feb 9th: Relationships (Friends/Romance/Family)
Feb 10th: Home/Outer Space
Feb 11th: STEM Day!
The themes aren't particularly restricted to the days, but tagging them for that day will really help us with the masterlist! So even if you create something later, just tag it for the day specified.
Typically, we also leave an extra week in case you need more time, and don't mind including WIPs. So don't worry if what you have for SWAW isn't entirely complete - we'd still love to see it! We also love celebrating throwback pieces, so if you'd like to submit a piece you'd done before, do consider going through this Throwback Piece Asklist or telling us about your process in creating the piece.

You’ve lived in New York City for years now, accustomed to the hustle and bustle of the city. You’re used to the crowds, the smells, the constant hum in the air. And up until now, New York had always felt like the biggest country on earth.
But now, New York has never felt smaller.
Ever since you came to the city, Chris had been around, waiting with Mika to pick you up at the airport the day you arrived. From then on, he’d become a staple in your life, whether you wanted him to or not.
Mika was your childhood best friend, and when you got accepted into NYU for your dream program, he was all too happy to open up his place for you. You graduated, accepting a full-time job at the company you’d interned at in the city, eventually getting your own legs to be able to afford a place on your own.
You’d moved out against Mika’s protests, insisting that he had plenty of space — and he did — but you wanted to prove to yourself that you could make it on your own, without the support of your millionaire, professional athlete best friend. And, there was the fact that being around Chris so much was really starting to put a strain on your life in the worst way.
Being around him was intoxicating. It started as a simple friendship, a friend of a friend, who you became close to simply because of his proximity. Over time, your own friendship had developed into its own thing, a separate text thread going outside of the existing group chat. Still, because of the dynamic, you never really hung out with him one on one.
Until now. When Mika texts to tell you both that he’s got a stomach bug and won’t be able to make it over for movie night.
Unfortunately for you, Chris is already there, a can of seltzer already cracked open as he sprawls out on your couch, a little too much of his muscular arm showing as his arm rests on the back cushion.
“Mika’s not coming,” you announce, and he pauses mid-sip to look at you. “He’s sick.”
“Looks like it’s just us tonight, huh?” he says, jovial, trying to pretend he doesn’t also feel the thick layer of tension that’s just settled between you on the couch, hovering in the few inches of space between your leg and his.
Two drinks later, you’re feeling tipsy and the darkness of your living room feels like the perfect shroud over the embarrassment you might otherwise feel when your hand finds its way to his thigh. He tenses, instantly, then looks at you with a look in his eye that almost breaks your heart.
“Wh… what are you doing?”
“I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice,” you say softly, glancing sideways at him.
Chris chuckles, a slight tinge in his cheeks. “That obvious, huh?”
“Subtlety has never been your strong suit.”
“You’re hot, what can I say?”
His words spark confidence in you, and you turn to face him, brow quirked up. “You could just ask me out like a normal dude.”
You watch his hand scrub his face before running over his hair, blowing out a long exhale. “It’s not that simple, and you damn well know it.”
“Why not? Because of Mika?”
Chris sends you a pointed glance, the obviously not necessary to say out loud in order to pick up on his reluctance.
“He doesn’t own me, you know,” you say. “I’m my own person, and so is he.”
“Of course you are.” He says it like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, like it had never even been a thought in his mind. “But there’s a code — he’s my best friend.”
You click your tongue, and turn to face the screen again. It takes everything in you not to look back at him to see the disappointment on his face when you remove your hand from his scalding thigh, instead saying, “Well, let me know when you figure that out. I’ve been waiting for you to fuck me for years now.”
Chris chokes on his drink, and you can’t help your smirk when he stares at you incredulously. His mouth is agape, cheeks flushed a really delicious shade of pink. To silence him, you lean forward and press a kiss against his mouth, letting out a hum at the feeling of his lips on yours.
You pull away, letting him stutter like a fool, and stand up. As you walk toward your bedroom, you jerk your head at him to signal him to follow you. Pausing in the doorway, you turn to him and say, “Unless you’d rather wait for him to sign your permission slip?”
Chris nearly knocks over the half-empty can of White Claw on your coffee table, tripping over his own feet to get to you. Without a second thought, he takes your face in his hands and pulls you in for another kiss, a real one this time, like he can’t get enough now that he’s had one taste.
As he nudges you inside the bedroom, he closes the door behind him. “Fuck the permission slip.”

If I had to pinpoint what area of your life this reading is about, I would tentatively say "social life" but what I really mean is that this is a lesson to be learned generally from dealing with people, and will probably permeate every facet of your life. In your new life, your horizons will open up, and with that, you will encounter a lot of behaviors that you have never before. I think that before this, your world has been a little bit black and white, and everything was divided into categories of good or bad. I don't know if you personally agree with this or not but at least that's how you were taught the world works. What you will find, is that the reality you are about to face is a little bit complex than that. The thing is, that most people are not really fundamentally good or evil, though they are capable of both of these things, but they are all a little bit "selfish" in the sense that they are trying to protect themselves and look out for their own interest to a degree. Some of them will be nice to you because they want something out of you, and some of them will hurt you because they don't know any better, and MOST of them will not do this with like an outright, deep seated malice, but they will do it regardless.
The thing is, that I don't really wanna sow seeds of paranoia or anything, because that's not what the reading is about. I think being a LITTLE cautious of things that sound too good to be true, can be a good takeaway from this reading, but it's not the most important one. The focus here, should be on your boundaries. You cannot be too shy protecting your own self interest either, because no one will do that for you. I think that maybe you are a little bit afraid to say no and draw lines in the sand, or maybe you think that saying yes to everything makes you a good person... and I think you can do these things to an extent to your liking, but be aware, that while most people won't exploit this in big and flashy ways, most people WILL chip away at it sort of testing how much they can get from you. Pay attention to how much of yourself you are giving to people, and where that goes. You need to - and you will - move on to a stage of life where your understanding of people's motivations will increase, but only if you are paying attention. Luckily, you seem like a very observant person, and I think you will understand quickly. I think all you need to really internalize is that most people's motivations are not simply to be a good or bad person. Be smart, and don't be shy to occasionally ask: What's in it for me? And by that I mean not just material goods - attention, energy, love, everything. Don't let the scales go too much out of balance, because it will happen at your detriment.

Sex Drive: The Dirrrrrrty Science - ‘Science Vs’ Podcast Season 14 Finale
First, kudos to Science Vs for not doing something. When Joe Rogan had vaccine and conspiracy theorist wingnut Robert Kennedy, Jr. on his show and allowed him to spout that vaccines cause autism, 5G is mushing up your brain, and various other fringe ravings, Science Vs did not devote an episode to counteracting this craziness. In early 2022, Science Vs took on the Rogan-Malone vaccine misinformation miasma with an entire episode.
Why not do the same for Kennedy? Because rhetorical oxygen is what these cultural terrorists want. They want public debates and social media interaction because those activities fuel their anti-science, anti-traditional view of the world.
What's next? They'll be advocating leeches for mass hysteria, and demanding that lead be put back into gasoline?
So well done, Science Vs. Let Kennedy slink back to whatever hole he occupies in his mansion as he dreams up new conspiracy theories that he knows will ensnare the most vulnerable.

The Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement left us an extraordinary and precious legacy, the Prime Minister will say today in Belfast (Wednesday 19 April).
He will return to Northern Ireland to address Queen’s University’s ‘Agreement 25’ conference and host a special Gala Dinner to commemorate the anniversary.
As part of the closing address to an audience of architects of the Agreement and global figures, the Prime Minister will say the best way to fulfil the promise of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement is to make good on our commitment to create jobs and opportunities for young people so they can fulfil their dreams and aspirations in the place they call home.
He will say:
Together we must fulfil the true promise of the 1998 Agreement…
That future enshrined in the very words of the text - of “sustained economic growth”, and where we tackle the problems of “a divided society”.
And I will give everything to help deliver that vision.
The Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement promised prosperity and a more integrated society and we have work to do to deliver on that promise.
Praise will be given to the contribution of both peace makers and the security forces who played a leading role to secure the stability we have now.
He will highlight their courage despite daily threats to them and their families – as well as the imagination and perseverance of the leaders to conceive of a system for sharing power and deliver it against the odds.
In a tribute to those who built the Agreement, the PM will reflect on an extraordinary political achievement and say:
Courage, imagination, and perseverance.
Those qualities brought an imperfect but enduring peace to a place taught to believe no such peace was possible.
To all those who led us to that peace, including those here in this hall and those no longer with us – let us take this moment to say to you: thank you.
The Prime Minister will argue that we can also fulfil the Agreement’s true legacy of a better future for Northern Ireland – with a prosperous economy and a more united and contented society.
Northern Ireland has made significant economic progress in the last 25 years. In April 1998, Northern Ireland had the highest unemployment in the UK at 8.4%, and now it is the second lowest at 2.4%.
He will reaffirm his ambition for Northern Ireland to attract greater investment and highlight its thriving cyber and life sciences sector – as well as its financial services and creative industries.
He will say:
I know that journey to prosperity won’t be easy – and we aren’t there yet.
But this is my commitment to you:
I will use the full force of the UK Government to help you make this one of the best places in the world to start and grow a business, create jobs, train and learn new skills, and attract investment.
The Prime Minister will meet with some of the leading architects at the Gala Dinner later that evening, along with Irish and US representatives, and welcome guests with opening remarks to the Gala Dinner. The dinner will also be attended by political leaders, international dignitaries and leading charities.
The Dinner will round off the recent period of Prime Minister-led events to mark the anniversary and strengthen efforts to support our vision for a prosperous 25 years ahead.
This follows President Biden’s visit to Belfast last week where the Prime Minister and the President celebrated the progress that Northern Ireland has made over the last quarter of a century and recommitted to building an even brighter future for Northern Ireland.

Sometimes, you felt like an onion. You had a lot of layers around you: secrets, insecurities, dreams you were scared of living, things that were never said. And every time, it felt like Steve would peel a layer to expose the truest form of you. You'd never felt as naked as you did when his eyes were fixed on you, with no judgement or question, only love.
You'd been going out for months now, learning about each other, exploring your boundaries. Steve was the most attentive boyfriend. He was caring and respectful, always there for you before you even asked for him. He'd lift you up when you needed something from the top shelf. He'd cook for you because he knew you liked the domestic look on him. He'd tickle you to tears when you were down, trailing kisses down your forehead to your nose to your chin before blowing a raspberry on the hollow of your neck that would have you giggling.
Steve was so perfect, and it was very unconscious the first time you called him Daddy. You were in the kitchen and had broken a plate when Steve came rushing out, carrying you away from the wreckage to make sure you were okay. he wouldn't let you clean it, afraid you'd hurt yourself.
"You're okay baby?" He had asked.
"Yes daddy" you had softly replied into his neck, soothed by his smell. And though he didn't say anything, the thought kept running in his head. Daddy?

Your cries got higher with each thrust, nails digging into Steve’s shoulder as he pumped into you. He loved it when you got like this, all dumbed down and messy, garbling words that felt like poetry to him. You came around him again, squeezing his length between the velvety walls of your sex and he released into you with a growl.
Sweaty and spent, you looked a beauty to him as you laid under his naked body covered in his essence. His large body framed yours and as he leaned in to kiss your glistening and bruised lips, you tiredly said, "I love you, daddy".
He stilled, whispering a love you back before collapsing next to you. Looking at you drifting away, he got up to clean you and cover you up, holding you close as his thoughts ran wild. There it was again. Daddy. Why did you call him that?

Your birthdays were more important to Steve than they were to you. Every time, even when you’d not been dating, Steve would pull all stops for your birthday. He’d arrange a party that would consist only of your closest friends and family, cook all your favorite food, and would make sure everyone got you a present you liked.
There was that time Steve had made a list and gave it out. “Just get her something from this. I know what she likes.” Idiot. He should have put only his name on the list, since there was nothing you wanted more than him. Today, as you celebrated this day as a couple, he decided to make it intimate and private.
He decorated the balcony in your favorite fairy lights, lightening soft candles and putting your favorite flowers everywhere so that it smelled divine. You both sat under the stars, holding each other as you snuggled in the blanket, talking in hushed tone.
“What did you wish for when you blew the candles?” He asked, pressing his lips on the crown of your head. You looked at him, eyes reflecting the candles that danced in the wind.
“I have everything I want. Here.” You said, touching his chest. “You’re all I want. Thank you for today, daddy.”
You kissed him, not noticing the slight hitch in his breath as you said that. Daddy, he liked how that sounded.

The sounds of typing were a normal in your house, but it bothered Steve when it went past midnight for the third night in a row. He saw you stifle another yawn, rubbing at your eyes as you tried to finish this project on time. You worked way too hard if you asked him.
“Baby, come to bed. It’s late.”
“I can’t, really need to get this done.”
Steve sighed, washing your now empty coffee mug before sitting beside you. He counted three more yawns along with four curses whispered under your breath and he knew he needed to step in. Gently stopping your hand, he turned you to face him and cupped your face.
“You still have four days before you need to turn this in. Come to bed honey, you’re tired and I don’t wanna sleep without you.”
You pouted, tired and internally glad that he finally stopped you. Nodding, you allowed him to more or less carry you into the bedroom and put you into pajamas, tucking you into the warmth of his body as he turned out the lights.
“Sleep, sweetheart. I’ll make you your favorite breakfast tomorrow so you’re all charged up for another day of working. I love you.”
His arms came around you, your back to his chest. Tangling your fingers with his, you pressed a sleepy kiss on his knuckles before whispering into the dark, “good night daddy. Love you too.”

The fifth time you did it, you scared him.
The Avengers Gala was something Steve hated and loved. He loved he could have you on his arm, his girl to proclaim before the world. His friends got together and had a nice time, and people he hadn’t seen for a while surfaced too.
What Steve couldn’t handle was the audacity of men to ogle you. Despite you being on his arm, they would follow you with their creepy eyes, trying to sneak in a word whenever someone pulled him away from you. He knew he mustn’t be jealous; if there was anything Steve was ever secure about, it was your love for him. But he couldn’t stand still watching some good for nothing bastard try to win you over with a pick up line that was older than he was.
“Excuse me gentlemen” He almost growled, taking your arm possessively before whisking you away into a dark corner, intent on having you all to himself. You rolled your eyes, used to this act by now. You’d never told him, but it was almost endearing watching a man like him get so antsy over you.
“You can’t always hide me away!” You chided him but didn’t push him away. You preferred his company over any other, and if were to take you home right now, you wouldn’t mind. Steve bit his lips before cutting a glance to the men who were flirting with you earlier, a snarl lodged in his chest.
“No, but I can do this!” His lips crashed on yours, pulling you into a deep kiss that tasted of his power and love. You melted into his touch, arms hooking around his neck to bring him down to your height, tongues tangling together in a sloppy kiss. Steve didn’t let up until you had to finally break to breath, both panting hard.
“What was that for?” You asked, softly touching your lips that tingled.
“To remind everyone that you belong to me!” He said, pulling you closer. You smiled, pressing another kiss on his lips before tucking your head under his neck.
“Of course I belong to you daddy.”
He spent the rest of the party distracted. You’d called him that a lot recently. But why? Did you want him to be a daddy? You'd both decided to never to have children in the early days of getting together. Why then did you call him daddy? And why did it send a thrill down his back? God, he hoped you weren't pregnant.

The morning after the party, he woke you up with kisses trailing down your neck, soothing the sting of the bites he had placed there last night. As you whimpered, wanting to sleep some more, he pushed a hand under your top to tickle your ribs, smiling as you giggled and squirmed.
“Steve!” You squealed as he reached under your breast. He chuckled before kissing up your exposed tummy, loving the sounds of your laughter as he reached your mouth and pressed deep and slow kisses there.
“Good morning.” He said, nuzzling his nose into you. You sighed in happiness, snuggling into him and breathing in his scent.
“Good morning.”
You stayed that way for a while, him gently rocking you back and forth as you hummed, enjoying the quiet morning together. It was after a few minutes that Steve spoke.
“Why do you call me daddy?”
A sudden shyness came over you and you buried your face deeper into his chest, not speaking. Steve tutted, gently pulling you back and titling your face up to meet his eyes.
"Do you want us to have a kid?" Steve asked and you shook your head.
"No." You said, embarrassed.
"Then why do you call me daddy?"
You looked at him with glittering eyes, cupping his cheek softly that was threatening to develop a scruff if not shaved.
"Because I trust you." You said. "I never have to hide from you, never have to worry. You look after me, you love me unconditionally. You care about me in a way no one has ever before. When you take charge, it makes me feel good. I love it when you guide me in bed. I love it when you step up and look after me. Calling you daddy puts those feelings into words."
Steve couldn't look away from you and your eyes. The love and trust you put in him made him a better person, it made him feel worthy. All he ever wanted in life was to have someone to call his own, to hold them and love them and never let any harm come to them. Looking into your eyes, he knew he had all he wanted. He held you closer and tighter, brushing your lips with his.
"Say it again then, baby."
"Daddy"

The Symbolism of Spamton, and what he says about us
I don't usually analyze Undertale/Deltarune characters but I love Spamton. In this post I'm going to go over what Spamton represents, and all of his relevant symbolism. I'll try to keep this one short and straight to the point.
Before we can talk about Spamton we need to explore the context of Chapter 2. It should be clear to most people that Queen, her plan, and level are a metaphor for social media. Specifically Twitter. More specifically Twitter Drama.
Even her name is a play on the word “drama queen”
The whole level is centered around a blue bird character, Berdly. A possible reference to Twitters blue bird logo. I mean, just look at her boss battle. If taken out of context, what do you see?
You see a person sitting in a chair controlling a blue bird to attack people.
Is that not Twitter?
Although its important to note that Berly himself doesn't seem to connect to this social media metaphor in a narrative sense, you could still argue that Berly's front of intelligence could represent how people act online, trying to appear as someone cooler and smarter than they really are.
Point being that like the first game, Deltarune was created to be a commentary on fiction and role play. The first chapter is literally about games, and this one is about our digital presence online.
Another more obvious reference to Twitter in the chapter is the sidequest about collecting “blue check marks:
You have to bring the Hacker “checks” which could be a reference to “Verified Checks” on Twitter, and when you give them to him he creates a fireworks show “in dedication to you.” Symbolizing how for many people on the internet, getting a verified twitter check is the symbol of becoming famous, worthy of celebration. A sign that you've become a “big shot” now.
On that note, let's finally talk about Spamton.
The most obvious connection is that Spamton seems to be like Mettaton.
Spamton and Mettaton have similarities, beyond their names. Both are “robots” that want to steal your “heart shaped object” to become big and powerful.
But the key difference between the two is the motive, and this is where the social media angle comes in. In the first game, we meet Mettaton who at first seems cut throat and sinister, but is revealed to have a real passion and dream. He wants to “get big” to make music that everyone enjoys, and even decides to stay behind out of an altruistic devotion to his fans.
Compere this to the cynicism of Spamton. Notice how in the first battle with Spamton you progress the battle by engaging with deals, but he doesn't seem to care about the money itself. You cant pay him off because its not about the money. He just wants to feel like a “big shot” making deals. The thrill and freedom of feeling like someone important.
In this sense we can then divide Mettaton and Spamton into two types of influencers. Whereas, Mettaton has a dream. Spamton just wants clout.
The kind of influencer who wants to use their platform to enrich themselves and fuel their ego, as oppose to someone like Mettaton with a real desire to change the world for the better. In one of the genocide routes, we can even see him take over Queens mansion, representing how these types of influencers are bound to take over the social media structure, sans the right people step in.
Given the social media and fame metaphor. Its impossible to examine this boss and not read into the context of its creation. Although this is purely speculation, its possible that Spamton was created as open meditation on Tobyfox's baggage regarding his own fame, and also the effects of social media fame and clout chasing in general. Imagine the pressure of being that famous, of everyone expecting you to follow Undertale with something just as good or even better, and Toby probably doesn't even know what made the original game blow up like it did in the first place, and probably never expect it to.
Consider this line in his first boss theme:
“... Now's your chance! Now's your chance! Now's your chance! Be a big- be big- beeee-”
Over and over. It can almost be read as Toby's internal monologue. An unrelenting pressure to outperform and succeed, to make sure the game is a success that fulfills everyone's expectations.
Simply put, Toby is a big shot now.
In the matter of a single year, Toby went from being a nobody on the internet to being twitter famous celebrity. Getting “calls” from Nintendo. Again this is all unconfirmed, but its even possible that Nintendo offered Tobyfox a deal. A chance to be a big deal, with a big salary; a corporate puppet.
Toby would (hypothetically) rejected this offer. Like Mettaton, he cares about his fans, but has no interest in the acquisition of clout and power for its own sake. But hey, that's just a theory.
Which brings us to his central message about internet drama. While its not my place to psychoanalyze how someone is feeling from afar, a message is certainly here about internet fame and clout chasing. Its clear that Toby has become twitter famous, and consequently has found himself thrust into the heat of internet drama time and time again. It seems that Toby Fox is horrified by the affects social media is having on the indie gaming community or just more broadly society in general. In the past, toxic fame was a niche problem faced by a handful of Hollywood stars and musicians. But now Social Media has democratized fame, and all its problems to everyone that owns a phone.
Chapter 2 seems to be Toby's response and warning: that being a big shot is not all its cracked up to be and certainly not worth parting your soul over.

go talk to an actual gnc woman about all the shit they have to deal with daily. and I do not mean a super feminine, thin, white celebrity with a full face of makeup wearing a women's suit.
I mean a teen who dreads getting a job because they'll have to perform femininity in the workplace just to be taken seriously. I mean girls who are often mistaken for men (trans and cis alike).
on this same note, I'd like to point out that toxic femininity is most definitely a real and very common issue. obviously a lot of toxic men will try to bully women into being feminine, but a lot of women do it too.
and the worst part is that a lot of women will claim to be feminists and then still shame other women for not performing femininity IN THE NAME OF FEMINISM
something I absolutely despise is when a girl is proudly masculine and other girls claim she's just doing it because of internalized misogyny and that she hates feminine women when she literally did not ever say or imply that.
and these same people are the first ones to praise men wearing skirts and makeup and "yes queen slay" and that's great we love gnc men but then they will turn around and attack the girls who are doing the same thing.
and I know some of the reactions I'm gonna get with this, so let's just clarify this argument right now:
"but femininity is still seen as inferior, so masculine women are more likely to be taken seriously/seen as competent/respected"
yes, to a certain extent. our society does look down on femininity, so this is sometimes true. however, this is only when they perform masculinity to the extent that men want them to, and in the way that men want them to. if it's not beneficial to men in some way (for example, if it doesn't make them sexier or easier to objectify, fetishize, etc.), it can actually be detrimental.
as an example, men often say they prefer no makeup (because often this is a way of controlling and micromanaging their partner), but if a woman were to stop shaving their legs, that would be gross.
masculine women definitely do not have it better
