Thanks to an amazing group of people who are also participating in a social media visibility challenge as part of our involvement in the WEALTH program created by @carolynelliott_ my Instagram has a lot of new followers. So, a refresher introduction is in order. My name is Zayda Fleming. I am an artist and an aesthetically motivated person. I primarily work with ink and watercolors but I am planning on experimenting with acrylic paint in the near future. I was raised in a conservative Christian setting but left that path about 5 years ago. I am a feminist. I believe Black Lives Matter. I believe that the history we are taught in this country is heavily skewed by white supremacy, white fragility, and white exceptionalism in the curriculum. I am also a bookworm with a particular obsession with Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, and an anime fan. I have 3 tattoos and I definitely want more. As some of you may have read in previous post descriptions, I have anxiety, mild depression, a wonderful cat, a supportive partner, and a desire to embody my fullest self. We realized that there was a lot about me she didn’t know. That told me two things. 1: When she sits in my chair, it’s all about business. 2. She didn’t know my story and made me think, there must be a lot of people who don’t. • So here are a few fun facts about my journey • I have degree in Math Education from @jcsuniversity. I have taught middle and high school math in 4 states (Charlotte, New York, Chicago, and DC) • I went to cosmetology school in Charlotte part time during my first year as a teacher, and while working part time at Banana Republic on the weekends. (still to date the longest 15 months of my life😩) • I buit my MD Clientele as a traveling stylist while living in New York and Chicago. Also, while teaching in DC once I moved back to the DMV. (I literally worked 12+ hours a day, 7 days a week🥴) • I am now on my 3rd career path, as a Salon Owner of @saloncestchic 💪🏽. I am still an educator at heart. So this year I will officially pick that hat back up to educate in the beauty industry. • When I was in the 6th grade and we had to make our “what do you want to be when you group figures” for our graduation ceremony, I couldn’t decide so I made two. Hello guys, this is let me introduce myself post. I’m 36 years old, I’m Ukrainian, I’m a yoga teacher and a personal trainer currently living and working in Saudi Arabia and improving people’s quality of life. I took my first yoga class in Ukraine 10 years ago because I got bored in the gym. Back then my personal trainer in the gym mentioned that I was super inflexible, and that made me feel very sad and was actually so true back then. So, my journey into yoga started. In 2011 I moved to Mexico and started practicing yoga more and more, and then went to India for a short meditation retreat. After I came back to Mexico I decided I had to go back to India and study yoga. Guess what? I went to India and lived there for 6 months studying to be a yoga teacher and giving yoga classes on an everyday basis to the people from all over the world in 3 languages: Russian, Spanish, and English. Then I came back to Mexico and decided to study Western approach to teaching yoga from the American yoga teacher. Combining Eastern and Western methods took my yoga classes to the next level. In 2016 when my dad died, I moved back to Ukraine and found a job as an HR. I was the most miserable HR, because I wasn’t happy at what I was doing, and when the company was cutting the stuff I got fired. So, I decided I need something more, and although I was teaching yoga before it was my part time hobby. And it seemed scary to move to teaching yoga full time, because I was used to the idea that a good job is an office job... I can almost no longer say “Dyer behind @primroseyarnco” because that right belongs to my amazing right wing Dyer @tiffany.bays.7! I’m so sorry extremely proud of this lady! She has been dying most of the yarn we produce for the past 6 months. She had no knowledge of the fiber arts before she joined our team, and yet, she is an awesome natural at it! My days have been spent pattern writing, consulting with my team, taking photos and getting ready for updates. On occasion, I enjoy spending time with my family. This is my daughter, Paige, on our past vacation to NC. I asked her today what she wanted to do when she got older, and she told me she wanted to dye yarn like her mama. *my heart melted* It’s really hard to understand, but the relationship my daughter and I share is extremely special. Let my first posts here be about how I began this mad trip to entertainment lighting! It may be strange at the beginning, but I’m in to this since I was a kid. And this is because, when I was young, my mother and her younger sisters were taking me to the discos of Antiparos, my homeland. Antiparos is an island in the Aegean sea, at the Cyclades, a group of Greek islands. Antiparos wasn’t so popular back then as it is now, but it has it’s fanatic visitors, coming mostly from Northern European countries. So, since 80s, even 70s, it had already some bars and few discos. Since I have memories, there were three discos on the island: The tropical, the Mill and the extra famous, La Luna.

Also, many of the bars and pubs, included some beautiful lights and effects. I use to say, making a joke, that uplighting began from Antiparos! Because, you could see that use of lighting fixtures, back in the 80s.

The lighting back then in the discotheques was simple. The classic disco balls, sealed beam pin spots with black or silver housing and black lights. The most advance lighting that I have seen back then, were 4 PAR36 pinspot scanner, in the Disco Tropical. I loved them!!

I was obsessed! I was waiting the summer to visit the island and to see the lights again. Also, every year, there were something new installed, or a new bar opened. I was cycling in the Hora of the island, to observe the new places and the lights!

A new era of my interest in disco lighting, has started on 1991, when then I firstly saw the moving mirror fixtures, or my beloved, scanners! I wasn’t even 10 years old back then and I was so impressed and stunned, by the sudden and fast movements, by the projection of beautiful patterns, like a heart, a star, some flowers, the classic cone and of the bright vivid colors, like the magenta, which I have never seen before!

After that magical experience, my toys which were LEGOs became tools for making a miniature, a scanner light, like the one in the picture, with which I was working for many years! That began from 1992 or 1993 I think, when I first had my first contact with the Voltage! I learned many stuff back then, by just experimenting my self.

All over the next years, I continued dedicating a lot of time in my lighting-toys and I was waiting for the opportunity my parents to take me with them on a stage, or exhibition, in which I would see disco lights.

The part I am regretting in this travel is that I didn’t started with being a collector. When my work offered me serious money, I was buying new lights. I still have them as pieces of my collection, but they haven’t gave me the satisfaction and experience my restored lights have gave me. Back then, I couldn’t afford buying a Claypaky, for example, a Miniscan, but, I could buy and save new, used. So, I have lost some years in which I would have the opportunities to save and restore many interesting models.

But anyway, I feel lucky enough to have the model which I first saw live, when I was kid and other classic (for Greece’s venues and discos) models and nowadays, I have turned my attention to other popular favorite lights, from Claypaky, Martin, Robe, High End Systems and so on.

The last years I work constantly on restoration projects and I am keep looking for favorite models to save and restore!!

My name is Penelope Moon Stevenson, yes seriously that is my name…I’ll pause here briefly so you can get those PMS jokes out of the way. I was born in 1988, the Winter air was crisp, by crisp I mean 17 degrees and storming outside in a small town called Serenity, Ohio. I was conceived in the bathroom ten minutes after my parents, Alyseia, my Half-Fae Mother and Philip, my human father met at a Motley Crue concert in between the songs Girls, Girls, Girls, and Home Sweet Home, again…yes, seriously.
