Mass Effect 2 replay, exploring and part of Tali’s loyalty mission:
Phi Clio
-Cyllene – There’s an archaic helium-3 refueling station. This implies someone found the system by FTL, rather than the mass relay.
-Parnassus – It has geothermal and solar power station. There’s no history of the planet or its government in Citadel Council records. Since Cyllene is on record, it must have been deleted.
-So what the hell is the deal with this system?
My take away is that once the mass relay was discovered, the Parnassus population bailed because now it was too close to main traffic routes.
I am very curious. I suspect it was used by the Council for purposes they did not want officially known. The Citadel Archives probably has a history for it.
Enoch
-Laban – There are bunkers from an ancient race that were blown apart by a dreadnought class weapon.
-Mizraim – There’s debris orbiting the planet indicating that artificial satellites were destroyed
-Joab – Thousands of years ago a primate like spacefaring species were destroyed by massive orbital bombardment to their population centers. They’re only known because of time capsules buried outside of population centers.
-The buried time capsules implies the species knew death was coming and took some measure, however small, to ensure they would be remembered. Pretty tragic.
-Is this where Liara got the idea to leave behind time capsules in ME3, just in case her cycle also lost the fight against the reapers?
-The most likely culprit are Reapers.
This comes back to what level of civilization Reapers destroy. Was this race just barely spacefaring? This is the only planet I’m aware of where they’re remains exist.
If so, it comes back to my hypothesis that the Reapers are very thorough when exterminating civilizations to prolong the next harvest. They destroy races well before they develop mass effect technology.
-N7: Archaeological Dig Site – To the shock of no one, the planet is Earth like. At least the haze is an interesting twist.
-According to one of the terminals, Exo-Geni contacted “co-executive” Commander Vido Santiago of the Blue Suns for transport.
Nice call back to Zaeed’s loyalty mission.
-And the Prothean pyramid returns! With a side of the prothean vision Shepard received in ME1.
For such a short mission they crammed a lot of references into it.
-Who did Shepard give the Prothean pyramid to? I hope not Cerberus, but it’s not specified.
Normandy
-The email from Leslie, one of the woman on Aeia, has more reflection and emotion about Ronald than anything Jacob has expressed.
It’s frustrating. Bioware clearly can use the mission to generate turmoil, but they refuse to let Jacob experience it.
-Speaking of Jacob, he has more to say this time.
-If you go renegade (by asking how he’s handling the revelations about his father!), he actually calls out your attempt to talk him through any trauma he has. He points out you don’t have the qualifications to do so.
-If you go neutral or paragon, it’s all about the mission.
It’s interesting – he refuses to dwell on personal issues, doesn’t want to hear that everyone will die, but also rejects the false optimism that everything will be okay.
It’s over all a very grounded approach, but shows how Jacob is less malleable than some other characters. He has hard boundaries with Shepard and won’t let Shepard overstep them, even to reassure him.
Since one of Jacob’s boundaries is Nothing Personal Ever, it results in a character that feels more distant than the other squad mates. It’s not rejection of Shepard, exactly, so much as Jacob’s coping mechanism is to work and never do internal reflection.
So the issue Jacob is in most dire need of help with is the one he refuses to let Shepard assist on.
-Mordin has more post loyalty dialogues than any other crew member. Most only have their initial post dialogue loyalty and than one more conversation. I think this is Mordin’s third such conversation.
-Why did salarians develop unconscious social cues to discourage others from prying into secrets? What the hell kind of evolutionary tract results in that?
-Mordin presumably does not have any children of his own, since he’s using his favorite nephew to personalize the conflict.
Given Mordin’s prestige, that must be by choice. I’m sure he’d have no trouble obtaining a breeding contract.
-He’s very happy to be participating in an effort that involves no ethical conflicts. This is something he can be unambiguously proud of.
-Zaeed says he can’t blame Jacob’s father. You do what you need to do to survive.
I say Zaeed deserves a punch to the face. At no point was it necessary for Ronald’s survival to rape his crew.
Raheel-Leyya
-Migrant Fleet – The amount of care Tali’s mission has compared to Jacob’s is stark.
There is so much world building and complexity in just the first part of Tali’s mission alone.
By comparison, Jacob’s mission was barebones and straight forward. There was no world building and never any ambiguity about Ronald’s actions. The only question was how he would be treated.
-Tali specifying the Normandy is not clean is a nice touch. Of course that would be a standard question to ask all docking ships.
-The importance Quarians place on captains is also logical. Quarians live their entire lives in ships; it’s natural for captains to receive tremendous respect.
-Shepard, if they clarify they’re only a commander not a captain: Technically, I’m no longer in the Alliance military at all.
I suppose this is because Shepard was dead and not because they were/are a spectre?
It would have been nice if ME1 had ever explained Shepard’s status once they were made a spectre. See, it only takes one line!
-Miranda’s breather cannot possibly be acceptable for the quarians. Get the woman a helmet.
Actually, given the quarians’ history with Cerberus bringing her along probably isn’t much better than bringing Legion. The only saving grace is that the quarians might not know she’s officially with Cerberus.
-There are two layers to stripping Tali of her ship name.
First, it makes her look worse to the audience.
Second, it screws over her defense. Since Tali didn’t know she’d been stripped of her name, Shepard had no time to prepare a defense for her. Moreover, since Shepard is not familiar with quarian law or custom, it puts Tali at a huge disadvantage. They’re improvising on pure instinct what will work.
-If Shepard goes renegade when told they’re defending Tali, she says: They’re trying to turn the crowd against me.
Nice hint most players never see that choosing the option “Rally the crowd” later on can win Tali the trial.
-The trial comes across like a blatant attempt to get Shepard to reclaim the Alarei.
Every time I play it, I always think they could have saved a lot of trouble by shooting Shepard an email asking for help. No need for the farce that plays out.
-Why haven’t the geth fixed the Alarei yet? It should be well within their abilities.
-Once again, will Veetor ever complete his pilgrimage?
I doubt he’ll ever be in condition to do so. Quarians must have exceptions for those that cannot go on one.
-The dialogue with Kal’Rheegar discusses dark energy at length. The build up to it as a plot point in ME3 is incredibly obvious.
The fact it was dropped entirely in ME3 is a sign of Bioware’s decline in writing. You cannot have a concept built up that extensively and than do nothing with it without the end product feeling disjointed. They should have at least worked it into a side plot.
-Kal’Reegar on the effects of dark energy: Some days I think flying around in the fleet without a planet of our own is the right idea.
Like the Reapers?
This line is such obvious foreshadowing.
-Kal’Reegar straight up explains that the plan is for Tali to kill geth to build up audience support and find evidence to clear her name in the meantime.
I suppose Bioware felt the need to spell it out for anyone in the audience that missed it.
-Admiral Xen is awful, but I like her as a character. She’s quite pragmatic.
If Rael experimented on live geth, he was an idiot and no trial is necessary. If he did not, then this was a tragic accident and no trial is necessary.
-Her end goal is to regain control of the geth.
It’d be interesting to get her and TIM on the same call. I’m sure she’d be fascinated by Project Overlord.
And consider it appropriate that nearly everyone got killed by geth, because only idiots experiment on live geth. She would have done a much better job with a ship of crashed geth. Send it to her!
-Shal’Raan set up the trial carefully to best help Tali, even if it hurt Tali in the process. Not informing Tali of her father’s fate until mid trial was a necessary evil.
On a similar note, later on you can clear Tali’s name by handing over the evidence of her innocence. This helps Tali by preventing her from being exiled, but loses her loyalty since it tarnishes her father’s name.
Tali wants to be respected as much as cared for. Trampling over her desires to do what you consider best for her does not make her happy.
Does it remind her too much of her father, perhaps? He was so focused on providing for Tali that he never took the time to be with her.
-The “bubble” (environmental unit) quarian children are placed in from birth is so damn tragic. Logical and fantastic world building, but so incredibly sad.
Children need stimuli. They need physical contact with other people. But this must be limited for quarian children so they can survive.
Their parents need to work. How much time do quarian children spend away from their parents out of necessity? How small are their worlds for their own safety?
Receiving their first environmental suit must be a tremendous increase in freedom for them.
Ironic, as the rest of the galaxy considers their suits their prisons.
-The real purpose of the trial is whether the quarians will start colonization efforts or go to war to reclaim the homeworld.
Tali is just collateral damage in that debate. Is the risk in fighting the geth worth the possible reward?
-Koris guesses correctly that Rael experimented on live geth. His mistake is assuming that Tali was also aware of that.
-He also calls correctly that going to war could end with the fleet dying over the homeworld.
-Koris is extremely sympathetic to the geth. That he was made an admiral shows that a much more significant portion of the quarians must be sympathetic to them than we see.

10 Characters ❆ 10 Fandoms ❆ 10 Tags
Thank you to @farfromstrange, @shouldbestudying41, and @bellaxgiornata for the tags! I had to think about this one for a bit. I'm going to try to avoid shared universes/fandoms otherwise this list would be 50% Marvel
1. Matt Murdock - Daredevil. If you could put a ring on a hyperfixation, this is the one I'd pick. My favorite of all characters (surprising precisely no one considering the word count of TRT), he's my comfort character, and it's a fandom I return to again and again ever since I first jumped in in 2015.
Tumblr media
2. Din Djarin - The Mandalorian. This was the show, ironically, that kicked off my Pedro Pascal obsession - I'd seen him in other things and liked him but for some reason didn't realize they were all the same person. I love Din's character, he's my taciturn shiny space cowboy, bless him, I want to give his poor back massage after carrying all that armor.
Tumblr media
3. The Tenth Doctor - Doctor Who. I still remember flipping through channels when I was younger and stopping on some weird show that had a giant Satan guy being yelled and monologued at by a messy-haired man in an orange jumpsuit (this part here specifically). I had no idea what was going on but I just couldn't stop watching Ten as he rambled and talked himself around. Turned out there was a marathon on so I just kept watching, loved him (and David) ever since.
Tumblr media
4. Leslie Knope - Parks and Rec. Leslie feels like someone took a section of my soul and then made a parody of her but it's so close to reality no one's entirely sure if it is a parody, 10 STARS OF 10.
Tumblr media
5. Garrus Vakarian (along with F!Commander Shepard, because there is no Shepard without Vakarian) - Mass Effect. This is the greatest game in existence and I love this dorky awkward sweetheart of a space raptor and my Commander Shepard and their romance and their banter, everyone leave me alone I'm emotional about this
Tumblr media
6. Alistair Theirin - Dragon Age. He is my snarky lil sensitive warden boy, my first real intro to game romance and bioware games in general, I love him your honor
Tumblr media
7. John Constantine - Constantine. YOU HAD THE PERFECT ACTOR FOR HIM AND YA'LL BLEW IT, BRING HIM BACK, HE WAS THE EMBODIMENT OF CONSTANTINE, ALSO I LOVE THIS WRETCHED SNARKY CON ARTIST DUMPSTER FIRE OF A MAN
Tumblr media
8. Rick and Evie - The Mummy. They are a pair that cannot be separated, they are marriage goals, THEY ARE PERFECTION, I NEED NO OTHER REASONS, HE FUCKING GAVE HER THE ARCHAEOLOGY TOOLS
Tumblr media
9. Xena - Xena. I feel like you if you mapped all of my fandom experience back through my life, you'd eventually get back to me as a kid watching Xena which was 70% camp and 100% fucking AMAZING, also I FUCKING TOLD YOU DIANA, I TOLD YOU XENA AND GABRIELLE FUCKING LIKE LIKED EACH OTHER, ARE YOU LISTENING DIANGA ARRE YOU LISTENING YOU BTICH YOU MADE FUN OF ME BUT I TOLD YOU
Tumblr media
10. Ellen Ripley - Alien/Aliens. RIPLEY MY BELOVED, RIPLEY MY DARLING, RIPLEY MY BADASS QUEEN, I have absolutely included tiny shades of her in my own fem characters, I fucking ADORE her
Tumblr media
No pressure tags: @wonderlandmind4 @kiwwia-wiwwia @becks-things @ancientbeing10 @bunnelbie @peterman-spideyparker @1988-fiend and anyone else who wants to!

Mangst 2024- Day 3
<<Previous . Masterlist . Next>>
“You don’t remember, do you?”
Summary:
Leslie learns more about her family Potential spoiler excerpt from "Picture Perfect"
Notes:
Colds are terrible and I've already got enough brain fog without them. Next chapters are going to be slow going while I get over it. I've managed to make notes for them, but making a narrative is a lot of effort at the moment Warnings for this one: panic attack, semi-mental breakdown, mentions of brainwashing by and trauma bonding for abuser Characters: Leslie- Rapunzel "Mama" (mentioned)- Mother Gothel/Sorceress/Witch
Leslie's POV
At least outside wasn’t as stuffy as her room. Leslie didn’t understand why she couldn’t leave like the others could. Well, Isaac had made good points, like the Institution taking her back. But Mama wouldn’t make her go back if she just knew. If Leslie could just make a call and explain, Mama would take her home. Then everything could go back to normal.
“Leslie?” The nice nurse, Crystal, was behind her with a strange woman. “There’s someone who’d like to talk to you.”
The woman approached as Crystal stepped aside. She gave Leslie a strange sort of smile as she put a hand on the chair opposite her.
“May I sit with you?” she asked.
Leslie tilted her head. The people here were odd, always asking for her permission to do things. But it could be a trick, so she nodded.
Pulling out the chair, the woman sat down, putting a thick file on the table between them. “My name is Rosemary Carroll. I’m an agent of the Felony Tracking Agency, ‘FTA’ for short. Do you know what that is?”
Leslie shook her head.
“We’re partnered with the Huntsman Legal group to find out more about you. Well, people like you. Trying to reconnect you with your family or soulmates. Other people who won’t take you back to the Institution.”
She perked up. “Did you call Mama? Is she here for me?”
Ms Carroll got a funny look on her face. “We didn’t find her, no. We found out something else, though.” Opening the folder, she took out a set of pictures and placed them in front of Leslie. “Can you look at these for me?”
She took the pictures, spreading them out and ordering them neatly in front of her. They all looked like pictures of the same family. A mother, a father, and a little girl. The little girl was blonde, different ages in the pictures. Ms Carroll didn’t tell her what to do with them really other than look, so she arranged them in how order of how old she thought the little girl was. Leslie could feel Ms Carroll watching her and her hands started shaking. Was she doing something wrong?
“You don’t remember, do you?”
Leslie looked up, confused. “Remember what?”
“This,” Ms Carroll held up a picture of the little girl on a bike, her father behind her, and her mother cheering behind them. “This is your family.”
That didn’t make any sense. “But that’s not Mama.” She pointed at the woman in the pictures. “Mama has black hair and she’s tall and skinny. This lady is blonde and short and pudgy.”
Ms Carroll sighed softly, pulling out more papers. “Do you remember how when you first arrived, they ran tests on you? One of them being a DNA test?”
She nodded. “They said it was to find Mama. Or my daddy. But Mama said he was a bad man who didn’t want me.”
“Well, we found this couple. These were the results of both your test and theirs, along with their missing daughter’s.” Ms Carroll passed her more papers that had charts and names on them.
She recognized her name and could read three others, all with the same last name: Anita, Colin, and Riley Shepard. The charts and numbers she didn’t understand. Leslie looked up at Ms Carroll.
“What is this?” she asked, laying down the papers on top of the pictures.
“Well, their parental matches are fifty percent matches to you.” Ms Carroll pointed at Anita and Colin’s results, both with a 50% next to them. “Typically, a one-hundred percent match for children to each other would be in the case of identical twins. But the Shepards only had one child, their daughter, who went missing when she was seven.” She pointed at Riley’s results, that had a 100% next to it.
Leslie stood up, ringing her hands. “Why does it say this? It’s wrong. Mama’s my family. She took me from the hospital herself. She always told that.”
“She wasn’t lying to you, Leslie.” Ms Carroll pulled out some more papers. “The case files from Riley’s disappearance talk about how she was sick, always in and out of the hospital. I talked with the Shepards and they confirmed this. Riley presented very early at age five. So her heats were very intense for her and hospital intervention was the only way to help. Right as the doctors found the right medication to balance her heats for her age, Riley disappeared.”
Foggy memories pulled at Leslie. Waking up in cold sweats. A cool hand on her forehead. Someone singing something to her. Mama never sang to her.
‘I’m your only family, baby bird. The only one who wanted you. Never forget that.’
“No.” Leslie shook her head., pacing back and forth “That’s not me. I’m sorry for that family, but it’s not me. Mama loves me. She’d never do something like that.”
“Do you remember any baby pictures? Any evidence she’d had you when you were a young child?”
“Mama didn’t keep any. Babies aren’t pretty. She only kept pictures that were pretty.” Leslie couldn’t breathe. Maybe she’d made her corset too tight. “Mama doesn’t like it when I’m not pretty.”
Ms Carroll pulled out something else from her pocket. A bulky looking thing that had a camera lens on it. She flipped out something on the side. “Listen to this for me?” Then she pushed a button.
“Lavender’s blue, dilly dilly…”
Leslie froze. She knew that. She knew…
‘I’m your only family, baby bird.’
“Lavender’s green. When I am king, dilly, dilly…”
“Stop it.”
‘The only one who wanted you.’
“You shall be queen. Who told you so, dilly, dilly…”
‘Never forget that.’
“I said stop it!”
Leslie knocked the thing out of Ms Carroll’s hands, shattering it on the ground. The music stopped and someone was crying. No, she was crying.
“Leslie…”
She ran. Away from the woman. Away from the pictures. She ignored anyone calling after her. Dodged any attempts to stop her.
Once she got back to her room, she locked the door, breathing hard. That stupid singing was still in her head. Why wouldn’t it go away?
Mama was her family. Mama loved her.
Mama…
Mama lied.
Breathing hard, she backed away from the door.
She caught sight of herself in the mirror. Makeup streaming down her face. Hair a mess. Dress rumpled and wrinkled.
‘Oh, baby bird, you look terrible. Let’s fix you up and make you pretty again.’
She sat in front of the vanity, picked up her make-up brushes, looked back up at the mirror.
‘You look beautiful like this. You don’t need any of it to be pretty.’
No, that was wrong. Mama made her pretty. Mama knew what made her look best. Mama made her the best.
‘You’re beautiful, Leslie. And funny. Smart. Don’t let her keep telling you otherwise.’
She shook her head, dropping the brushes, tugging at her hair. No, not that again. She’d been doing so well. Mama sent her to the Institution to forget about that. Mama loved her. The only one who truly did.
‘You’re mine, not his. Maybe I should help you remember that.’
There were scissors to the side of her. She remembered asking for some so she could make art again. Picking them up, she looked at herself in the mirror again.
‘You don’t need any of it to be pretty.’
It felt like someone else was controlling her hands. Like she was a puppet on strings. She watched as she pulled out hairpins, took up a chunk of hair, then-
Snip
Hair fell to the floor, some of it on her shoulder.
Snip
More hair gone. Her chest felt lighter, even as tears clouded her vision and her breath shuttered.
She kept cutting until her hair was just above her shoulders, varying lengths in most places. It looked awful, choppy, messy. Not at all what Mama would like.
Laughing to herself through tears, she got her make-up wipes and scrubbed her face. She probably used too many, being wasteful with what Crystal had given her. A glance in the mirror told her she was successful, though, getting all of the make-up off, face red and raw from crying.
Next was the clothing. Ripping, tearing, destroying the things Mama wanted her to wear. No more dresses. No more corsets. No more Mama’s pretty bird.
She was no one.
Nothing.
No one’s.
She pulled out some of the clothing from her nest. A shirt from Isaac. Pants she got from the clothing the center had supplied.
Burrowing into her nest, she pulled a blanket over her head. She didn’t know who she was anymore. But she had a pack. She belonged with them.
That much she knew.
That’s all she needed.

Week 9
“Dr. Highberg views this Request for a Search and Seizure warrant as his last chance to learn if Mr. Shepard is buried in a place he can visit. He tells himself he deserves to know the facts of Mr. Shepard's death, but it is more likely he feels guilt for allowing Mr. Shepard to be so alone in his final years. Dr. Highberg thinks visits to a grave every few years will absolve him. ”
what I think:
Death does not mean being forgotten, the real forgetting is that there is no one in this world who remembers you anymore
I related to the Hong Kong Superstar: Leslie Cheung and his partner: Daffy Tong.
They fell in love 20 years ago and firmly chose each other. Under the pressure of substantial public opinion. Later, the superstar Leslie Cheung committed suicide by jumping off a building on April Fools' Day in 2003 because of depression. His partner Daffy Tong has been missing Leslie all the time, he uploads old photos on social media, and these photos record the memorable times they spent together,, the superstar was still the same as 20 years ago, he is eternal, and he never grows old again. Maybe they will meet again one day and reconnect.

A new museum? A 13 day public comment period window is now open for five different design concepts, depicted here, for a new east building addition to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. This upcoming museum building is planned to be completed in the next 3 years, opening in time for the sestercentennial of the United States in 2026. Gyo Obata’s (the architect of the main museum building) 1988 glass restaurant pavilion annex will soon be demolished to make way for the Jeff Bezos Learning Center, which will include the “New Shepard” aerospace craft (depicted in the photos below) in which Bezos made a suborbital space flight, just above the Karman Line, in 2021. Bezos stroked a $200,000,000.00 million dollar check to fund this upcoming museum building, along with a stipulation that, for a minimum of 50 years, Bezos’ name will be publicly displayed in multiple places around the entire museum complex, both inside, and also facing public streets on the outside of the building, and in advance of the completion of the new wing. The terms of the written agreement between Bezos and the Smithsonian Institution, do not include a morals clause, a provision that would have allowed the Smithsonian to terminate the naming rights if Bezos’s conduct and behavior brought disrepute to the institution. CBS Market Watch reporter Leslie Albrecht obtained a copy of the agreement with a public records request. If you spot any coverage of the public comment period on the designs in the news media, please consider bringing it to our attention.
