Wonder| Leo Fitz x reader chapter 2

A/N: Heyy! finally the first chapter! let me know what you think <3
The ride to the S.H.I.E.L.D airbase was long and exhausting but for Y/n it was nothing but nerve-wracking. The last time she had a mission with S.H.I.E.L.D. it went horribly wrong, so she really hoped a repeat of last time would never happen again.
When she stepped out of the car she was immediately met with one of the biggest planes she's ever seen. Flying in smaller planes all her life probably changed her views on the plane even more now that she was in front of the big aircraft. After a few more moments of looking up, she saw another car approaching that stopped right beside hers. A tall man with raven black hair and a black suit walked out and she immediately recognized him as Agent Grant Ward. Coulson sent some background information that could be necessary about all the agents that would be on this team to the detective so she at least knew who she was working with.
"You must be Agent Ward," Y/n said as she approached the tall man.
Ward looked over at her and gave her what she thinks was a smile but she didn't quite catch it. It even looked like it annoyed him a little. "That's right, and you must be Y/n L/n? "
"That's me."
After the brief introduction, they both headed towards the plane that would become their home for the next few months.
As soon as she entered the plane voices of two arguing agents were heard. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, watch it! That's the Night-Night Gun." The curly headed man said, a Scottish accent filling Y/n’s ears.
The two new equated teammates looked at the pair of scientists that had been unloading when they arrived. Y/n observed the two for a bit, already knowing these were the two top-scientists of S.H.I.E.L.D in the past few years, agent Fitz and Simmons. Y/n may not have been an official agent but she knew enough from her past visits and cases.
Y/n crossed her arms in amusement and watched the pair, silently observing them before making herself known. To her surprise, Ward seemed to be doing the same thing.
"Well, it's on my stuff, and it doesn't work, and there's no way we're calling it the night-night gun." The brunette scientist replied, who Y/n knew to be Jemma Simmons.
The curly headed man, Leopold Fitz scoffed at her reply, not taking her comment lightly. "The bullets work. Nonlethal, heavy stopping power, Break up under the subcutaneous tissue–"
"Oh, with a dose of only .1 micro liters of dendrotoxin. I'm not Hermione, I can't create instant paralysis with that." Y/n laughed at her comment a little bit, the nerd in her coming up. Simmons grabbed a few bags and walked into the lab on the plane. "You should have run the specs by me before building the molds."
"The bullets are hollow! It's a marvel I can keep them from breaking apart in the chamber!" Fitz was getting agitated with his friend now, although Y/n wasn't sure if they were based on the bickering she was witnessing.
The pair seemed to not have noticed the two other people present with them in the cargo-hold. They kept up their bickering until Y/n saw Ward walk up to the two in the corner of her eyes, annoyance clear on his face. Right in front of the lab entrance, Ward dropped his large duffel bag on the ground- loud enough for Fitz-Simmons to hear them. The bag landed with a loud thud, and the two heads turned to him, the pair then quickly noticing Y/n behind him with a smirk on her face. Simmons seemed to be surprised while Fitz just carried an embarrassed look.
"Fitz-Simmons?" Ward questioned the two, the annoyance in his voice was just as present as in his facial expressions.
Y/n came to stand next to Ward again and pointed at the Scottish man in front of her, "That there is Doctor Fitz," Fitz gave the two a lopsided smile, putting up one hand to send them a small wave. Y/n smiled at him and then turned to the woman opposite him and then pointed at her, making sure Ward saw. "And this is Doctor Simmons."
"Hi, yea uhm." Fitz trailed off, his confidence dissipated a little when he looked from Y/n to Ward, the look he had was not welcoming. "I'm engineering and Simmons is Bio-chem."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Y/n L/n, you can just call me Y/n though. Did Agent Coulson tell you I'd be joining you?" the woman walked into the lab, shaking the hands of the two scientists, hoping to make a good impression.
"Oh yes! Fitz and I have been reading a lot about your cases, it's an honour, truly." Simmons shook her hand cheerfully. "And call me Jemma!"
"Thank you so much Jemma, I've read a lot about the two of you when Coulson send me it. You guys are incredible. Although I think I'm the only one who did the reading." Y/n cheekily looked up at Ward who was silently judging the pair.
"Coulson said I'd need my comm receiver encoded." Ward handed Fitz the receiver which he grabbed swiftly. "Don't know if you've worked with that model before. It's.." Ward was interrupted when a loud noise filled the room. Both Jemma and Y/n looked at where the noise came from and met Fitz's gaze who had apparently just smashed Ward's receiver. "Brand new.." The agent trailed off and Y/n’s eyes widened, finding the situation kind of hilarious.
"Right, I need to find Coulson. It was good to meet you all." Y/n walked out of the lab, catching Fitz's look who gave her a small smile. Jemma had already ran off to do some scientific stuff, much to Ward's dismay. She still heard the three bicker a little bit when she walked up the stairs of the Bus.
***
After a brief introduction with agent Coulson, who had explained her role on the team- that being the private detective for their missions- she received her bunk on the Bus. It was a little small but it was really cozy which she enjoyed a lot. The brunette had found a place for the handful of books she brought along, making the place feel a little more like home after. Now all she needed were some pictures and it'd be perfect, but being the chaotic woman she was, she forgot them.
Coulson had gathered the new-found team to a briefing after they all had the time to settle in. He explained that there had been a sighting of a new enhanced person, right in the middle of the streets in Los Angeles. The hacker group- The Rising Tide- had shown up again after this ordeal and Coulson's plan was to use them to get to him. The plan itself was simple but they had to get one of them on board to interrogate, and Y/n had to admit she was a bit skeptical but since she was just a consultant she had no place to speak. While Coulson and Ward would get the Rising Tide lead they found the rest of the team would inspect the site of the incident, the part where Y/n came in.
Agent Melinda May was behind the wheel, driving the four to the broken apartment building in LA. Jemma had been sitting next to the Asian female, chatting away while May did her best ignoring her. Y/n smiled at the interaction between the two, finding the contrast quite funny. Fitz caught her look and smiled a bit, nudging her. The detective looked at the man beside her and smiled.
"So, I know we only met for a moment today, but I just wanted to say I'm glad Coulson got you on the team."
"Thank you, Fitz. I appreciate it." Her smile got a bit wider when he had complimented her, not many people showed appreciation to her besides her work so she appreciated it a lot.
"Have you ever worked with Shield before?" Fitz asked, hoping to continue the conversation before they arrived.
Y/n’s smile dropped for a moment and she avoided the mans eyes next to her, fumbling with a lose thread on her shirt for a bit.
"Yeah, once or twice." She said and finally looked back into his eyes. When she saw him already looking at her with a soft smile she couldn't help but smile back. "Coulson and I worked together before so since he was in charge of this team he asked for me."
"That is so cool. Going in the field and all." Y/n noticed how his left leg had started moving up and down out of nervousness. "I mean, the field is not always dangerous of course.." He trailed off as he finished his sentence.
Y/n put a hand on his leg, stopping it from bouncing up and down. Fitz looked at her in shock because of the sudden touch which caused her to let out a small giggle.
"Calm down, Fitz. Agent May is there with us, we'll be fine-." May's eyes looked directly at the woman in the rear view mirror after she had mentioned the agent. The look in her eyes caused her heart to sank. She forgot that Fitz-Simmons didn't know about her situation and quickly shut up.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh look! We're here!" Jemma exclaimed.
May drove straight into the street where the accident had happened. Y/n was secretly glad they had arrived before she had to talk about what she almost spilled. And if she had to tell them how she knew- that would be even a longer story to tell. And she wasn’t ready for that.

Chapter One
Everything was black. Asia barely remembered closing her eyes. And then suddenly, it wasn't. She let out a gasp, air flooding her lungs, eyes rapidly taking in her surroundings. Her notably different surroundings. Her eyes started darting about, taking in everything. The room was dark and there was a spotlight on one item ; a giant, sleet and red Monolith, not unlike the one which swallowed up Jemma only two years ago. Her heart started to beat quicker in her chest and she turned to look for Leo, to reach for his hand, and she met only empty air. "Where's Leo?" She asked, the words coming out hoarse, as if she had been coughing. "Where's Leo?" She repeated when no one replied, unsure if anyone had heard her.
But before anyone could answer, the grey rock slipped into liquid, rushing towards them. She tried to turn and run, to liquify herself and disappear into the air, but it was too late. The liquid rock coated her and everything, once again was black.
And then it wasn't.
Everything around her was slowed, like moving in molasses. She lifted up her hand, which was an effort in itself, to look at her fingers. They appeared to have small, crystalline structures forming around them and grey lines streaming off of her hand as she waved her hand back and forth in front of her. What the hell was going on? She turned slowly trying to get a visual on her surroundings, trying to pick up any queues on where the hell that outer space rock had sent her. Before she could make a full turn, she was moving at full speed once again. Like her feet landed on the ground as if she had been on the downturn of a jump the entire time.
She was standing in a dark room, grey walls and floor, dimly lit by a few floor lights. So she was somewhere with intelligent life. Because wherever the hell she was, at very least, it was inside. She brushed off her pants that seemed to have a weird, grey residue on them and looked around. Her eyes lit up when they landed on one thing familiar: "Daisy!"
The brunette looked up, wide eyed, and met her gaze. "Asia, thank fuck!" She said, running to her friend and wrapping her in a hug. "Where are we? What is going on here?" The unspoken question of why the hell is this always happening to us? floating in the air between them.
"I think...we're in space," Asia said slowly, gesturing behind her friend. There was a small window, just tiny enough to look out of, that showed out beyond the room they were in. Out into an inky black like none Asia had ever seen before. And it was pinged dots of light every now and then, milky and silver and beautiful. Stars. The things her father had spent her childhood teaching her so much about. A place she never thought she would see in real life, but here she was. This was Shield after all. It seemed more and more that nothing was outside the realm of possibility.
"And, Leo isn't here," Asia whispered quietly as Daisy's eyes flicked to meet hers. "He wasn't in the room with the Monolith. When it swallowed us. So we're separated...again." There was a deep, aching sorrow in her tone. It seemed that no matter where she went, no matter what she did, the universe seemed to find a way to keep them from each other. Once, long ago, Leo had mentioned as if it felt like they were cursed, and in moments like this...it felt like he was right.
"We'll find him, Asia," Daisy said quietly, taking her friend's hand and giving it a quick squeeze. "But first, let's find the others who are stuck here." She glanced around the room for a moment, before nodding towards a door. "Also, while we're looking...is it just me, or did that Monolith look different than the last one?"
"It did," Asia agreed. "It had those weird red cuts in it, three of them. And while we're in outer space, we're...definitely not on a planet. So they clearly don't all go to the same place. Which is interesting, and terrifying all at once. If there's another one out there, how many more are there, and where do they all go? And why weren't we all displaced into the same room?" She reached forward and opened the door for her friend.
Neither of them would have any time to answer the questions, for once the door was open they heard the shouting and gunshots. The two looked at each other, eyes widening, and without another thought or word they took off running. Down the hall and around the corner, closer and closer to the sound of gunshots and familiar voices. When they rounded another corner in the dimly lit, metal halls, they saw something terrifying. An...alien? of some sort. Grey and scaled, yet catlike in it's leaps and bounds. If it weren't for the odd lizard appearance, Asia could have seen it as a leopard. And beyond the running beast was their team, or at least those of them who had made the trip.
Without a second thought, the two Inhumans thrust out their hands. Asia froze the thing to the ground, and Daisy quaked it to bits, some body matter splattering against the sheet-grey walls. Their friends looked up, wide eyed, before relieved smiles crossed the faces of Coulson, Jemma, Mack, and Yoyo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What if we're still in the Framework?" Yoyo asked, and the small group broke into a frenzy as panic coated Asia like sweat. They couldn't be. They couldn't. But that would make more sense as to why Leo wasn't here either. But they had killed Aida, Framework or not, so she couldn't have come back for him. She used this thought to rationalize the question for herself. It wasn't possible.
"We should focus on finding May," she spoke up, desperately trying to change the subject to something more barrable. "She was in the room with us when the Monolith sucked us all in, so she has to be here somewhere. We need to get to her before one of those aliens gets to her first."
"Monroe is right," Coulson said nodding. "We need to find May and get somewhere safe so we can figure out what the hell is going on here and where exactly here is. We should split up."
"Hell no, you did not just say we should split up," Mack said, crossing his arms over his chest. "We have to stick together. We don't even know what we're up against here. There were those people and now aliens too."
"It does cover the most ground," Daisy pointed out logistically. "If we want to find May, we need to be seeing as much as we can, and quickly." Asia nodded towards her friend, acknowledging her point. May was a badass, that was never in question. But aliens like that weren't exactly something you could go toe to toe with.
"Yea, yea, sure," Mack scoffed. "Clearly, none of you have watched enough movies. That's what the group always says before they get picked off, one by one. Which is exactly what will happen to us if we go through with this." He looked warily down the hall, as if he were expecting another creature to appear from thin air. For all they knew, they had the ability to do that.
Asia turned to Coulson before all of this got even further out of hand. "It's your call, Sir," she said calmly and evenly. He was, after all, without anyone even having to speak a word on it, back to being Director of Shield. If there even was a Shield to direct when they got back home.
So that was how they ended up all walking down the dimly lit halls together, V formation, with Asia and Daisy in the lead, hands already outstretched in preparation. Every sound caused the group to freeze, checking their surroundings, making sure no one and nothing was sneaking up on them in this foreign hallway. Foreign hallway in space with aliens. The thought still felt odd in all of their heads. So far, it had just been the settling of whatever this place was. It had to be a spaceship of some sort...right? Asia could wrap her head around no other way that the space outside the window would be so incredibly close.
When they reached a corner, Yoyo would dash down and scan the area, making sure that they weren't walking into a trap. After a while, they finally came across something. A flare, red, shining and fading in the hallway outside of a single door. With a nod, Mack kicked the door down and they all pushed in. The room was empty, except for several dead bodies and a trail of blood on the floor.
"Look," Daisy said, nodding towards a computer labeled 'Water acclimation.' She quickly moved towards it, tapping the English keyboard to life, the words in front of them also reading in the familiar language. "It looks like they're tracking debris fields, something they call 'frozen oceans,'" she said, a bit of a furrow in her brow.
"They're collecting water from ice in space," Jemma said suddenly as she looked over Daisy's shoulder. "There's people here. A colony," she turned to face Coulson, eyes wide.
"That means unless everyone on here came through the Monolith...we're close enough to Earth for anyone on this ship to travel here," Asia said quietly, staring down at the screen in front of them. They would know about a colony of humans in space, wouldn't they? Why were all these people up here to begin with?
"Just as importantly, it means if these individuals are collecting ice, then they have some sort of space shuttle," Jemma explained. "And if that's the case, then it would only be logical to assume they also have a laser based transmission system. If we can find that ship and fly above the debris fields..." She turned and looked at Asia, wondering if the brunette was catching on to what she was saying.
And she did. The brunette's eyes lit up. "Then we can send a message to Leo on Earth and let him know where we are." and that we're safe, she thought to herself. He would want to know they were okay, that they were all okay. And then, she wondered, not for the first time, why he wasn't brought with them to begin with.
"Sounds like the start of a great plan," Daisy said, continuing to click at the keys until suddenly a large, red box popped up before them. Human access denied. It read, followed by another line of text in a different language beneath it. Her brow furrowed and she turned to her team. "Coulson, Asia...either of you recognize this from one of those languages you seem to collect like trading cards?"
Both agents took a look and shook their heads. "That's...I don't think that's a human language," Asia said quietly, biting her lower lip. She recognized a lot of text, forms of text, and this didn't look remotely to resemble anything that humans had spoken or written over the last several hundred years.
"I think Monroe is right," Coulson nodded. "And I don't think people are the ones running this ship after all." As he spoke, there was a loud thudding on the door behind them, causing the entire team to spin around.
The door was thrust open and in walked three, heavily armed, Kree soldiers. One held up a large, blue, glowing gun which let a pulse echo throughout the room, knocking the group to the ground. Asia felt the impact as her body slumped downwards, her eyes starting to roll back into her head, black fading around her eyes like curtains closing on a stage.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good morning, darling," a smooth, Scottish voice tickled at her ears as she stretched out her arms, waking up between cool sheets and a warm comforter, both crisp and white. The voice was like honey in her ears, warm and comforting. She rolled and opened her eyes to see Leo Fitz, standing beside her in a warm bedroom with light streaming in through the windows. He was leaning over her, one hand reaching to tuck a strand of hair back from her face.
"How long did I sleep?" She asked, voice still thick with tiredness. "I had the weirdest dream. There was another Monolith and I went to space. It was weird. You were gone from me again." She blinked, the image of him growing fuzzy before her. She sat up, blinking rapidly. "Leo?" She asked in a worried voice, as his face blipped in and out like a glitch on a screen.
"It's time to wake up, love. Your team needs you," he said, his voice cutting in and out as he spoke to her. She leaned towards him, reaching out, fingers stretching as far as they could as she called out his name again.
Then she opened her eyes, waking up for real this time, sheets replaced by smooth metal as she took in the prison cell that surrounded her.

Gosh this scene and this entire episode 🥺Pure cinematic brilliance...AoS and marvel in general always explored mortality and life and immortality so brilliantly...tht too aos in the last season rlly made me question so much of what my belief on what makes a person, character of a person , embracing changes and so much more..This scene in particular is such a poignant one..It should a whole new take on death.. Dying might be painful but watching our loved ones die is even worse and seeing Coulson who has literally died so many times say this was just pure brilliance...

Fitz-Simmons
The scene that broke my heart and almost killed my ship... I was practically in tears...
At the bottom of the ocean ... trapped... running out of air, out of hope, out of time. Of course the brilliance of these two adorable geniuses came through and they created a plan.... however it would only save one of them
Simmons: “ One breath? But there’s two of us.”
Fitz: “Yeah I know, I’ve done the math. That’s why you’re taking it”

So many emotions ... All the Fear + Adrenaline + Sadness ....The love confession in the middle of it all ... There is no way Jemma had enough time to process it completely

Wonder | Leo Fitz x reader chapter 3
Tumblr media
Union Station had turned into chaos. Mike Peterson turned out to be the enhanced individual that had saved the doctor. However, after some research from the team- together with their new acquaintance Skye who is a member of The Rising Tide- they figured out what the cause of the explosions were. It was the centipede serum.
And Mike Peterson was full of it.
Fitz-Simmons had the job to find a way and let this situation go well, in a way the team plus everyone in the station would not blow up, in the mean time they had to find a way to calm Mike down as best as they could. Coulson was slowly approaching the man, Y/n and Skye watched from the back. She watched how Coulson laid down his weapon, in a way to offer peace. Y/n glanced upwards and spotted Ward with his rifle- going against what Coulson tried to show Mike.
"Think that means anything?" He caught the eyes of Y/n, who glanced upwards to where Ward was situated. He saw the rifle and knew he was under gunpoint. "I know you got men everywhere waiting to put me down." Mike said, looking back at Coulson.
"I know how this plays out." He adds.
"I don't." Coulson starts, moving closer to the man. Y/n watched the pair closely, seeing how Mike physically got angrier by the second. "I know you got poison in your system. I know it's burning you up. Mike, the last guy who wore that exploded."
"I am not like that other guy!" Mike walked towards Coulson, pushing him straight to the ground. His strength was too much for the agent to fight back. A gunshot was heard and it missed Mike's head by an inch. Mike looked up to where Ward was, the raven haired man was ready to take a second shot until Coulson yelled out.
"Don't shoot! Stand down agent Ward."
Y/n watched in anticipation, Ward backed down but she noticed the doubt in his face. Coulson tried to stand up but she saw he was hurt. Something in her there told her it was going to be fine, Mike just needed the proper words.
The detective walked up to the two men, her hands up in surrender just in case. They both looked at her and Y/n ignored the slight pull from behind when Skye tried to stop her from walking towards the duo.
"Mike, think about Ace." She said to him with a soft smile.
The mention of the mans son seemed to spike an interest in him.
" I know you're strong. Your boy knows it, but he needs you to let us help. Let SHIELD help you, Mike." She continued.
Mike seemed to calm down a little bit. His furrowed brows however told her he was still angry. He walked to the broken kiosk in the station, breaking a piece apart from anger.
"You don't know what it's like!" He pointed at Y/n with the piece of wood, rage was evident on his face. "I had to work my ass off day and night to make a life for my boy, and then New York happens, and guess what? They take away my job, and my life! That is what SHIELD is! They are no heroes, they step on us to make themselves stand out. But I matter, and my boy matters and I'm sick of being stepped on."
Mike threw away the piece of wood, it fell right before Y/n’s feet, but she didn't back down. She got what she needed from him. She knew his angle now, what the source of his anger was. It was her job to understand people and she definitely understood Mr Peterson now.
"Trust me Mike, no one here will understand you more than I will." Y/n took the silence from Mike as a sign to walk closer a bit. "But there are good people at SHIELD, Mike. But the good ones, the real deal, they're not heroes because of what they have that we don't. It's what they do with it. You're right, Mike. It matters who you are."
"I could, you know? Be a hero." He gave her a smile, something glistened in his eyes. She smiled at him and nodded.
"Hell yes, you could." She let out a chuckle of relief as he smiled at her. Mike starts to walk forward towards Y/n but a sudden bang cuts his action short- a bullet had hit him right in the forehead. Y/n’s eyes widened in shock and she almost fell backwards, a hand stopped her from falling. She looked behind her and saw Coulson standing there, his eyes mirrored an expression like hers. Her head shot upwards to the place Ward had shot from. But when she saw Fitz standing there with his thumb up, sending the team a reassuring smile her heartbeat calmed down slowly. She smiled back and she saw him wink her way. She looked at Mike, Jemma had ran past her in hurry and she checked his vitals.
He was going to be okay.
***
"I can't believe you guys found a solution in that short of a time." Y/n said in awe.
Fitz-Simmons, Ward, and Y/n had returned to the Bus when their mission at Union station had been a success. Coulson and Skye took it upon themselves to bring Ace to his aunt while May brought Mike to one of SHIELD's headquarters. Y/n was sure Coulson was going to ask Skye something today that could let her to stick around a little longer, she knew him well enough. She didn't tell the rest yet- hoping Skye could tell them herself. In the meantime the rest of the team was sharing some drinks and take-out they had gotten on the way back. Fitz had suggested to get some and Y/n was grateful, the adrenaline ran out of her system a while ago and she was starving.
"Well that was nothing like how you talked down Mike! You just stood there like a total badass." Fitz said with an exciting grin.
Y/n’s cheeks flushed at his compliment. She looked down towards her food, fidgeting with her food a little, biting her lip to prevent herself from grinning.
"Thank you, Fitz."
She heard some noise from outside, the cargo hold door opened slowly with a hiss and she knew who had come back. After the team in the bus found out about an 0-8-4 sighting from SHIELD they had called Coulson back to base, knowing this would be a new mission.
"Oh you wouldn't believe it!" Jemma walked back towards the three, a new beer in hand, the previous one already causing the Brit to be a little tipsy. "Coulson just came in with Lola- flying!"
"He what now?" Ward asked in disbelief.
Y/n laughed at his reaction before she turned back to her new friend.
"I bet he brought along a certain someone?"
"How did you-" Jemma's words caught short when two voices were heard from the entrance of the living area. Coulson came in and an excited looking Skye followed after him.
"Well, well, look what the cat brought in" Y/n chuckled in her beer bottle, taking a small sip.
"Hey guys," Skye smiled at the team that had gathered. "Guess you have to do a little more to get rid of me"
"Oh don't worry, we got plenty ideas." Ward said bitterly, although there was a hint of teasing behind it.
Loud steps came from the entrance not long after, Melinda May stepped into the room and glanced at the team. They all looked at her, waiting for her to join them.
"What are you guys doing? Wheels up in five." She walked past the group, not sparing them a glance as she made her way to what Y/n presumed to be the cockpit.
"Well then," Coulson turned back to Skye. "Let's get you back to your van, and let's talk about what time you're here tomorrow yea?" The pair walked back towards the exit, Skye grabbing her bag before leaving.
Fitz turned to the three others, confusion evident on his face.
"Do you- Why is she coming back?" He looked in between Jemma and Ward for a second before his eyes landed on Y/n who was already smirking. "You know something. Why do you always know everything, and what is it?" Fitz was getting really curious now.
"Well, it is my job you know." Y/n chuckled. "And let's just say that we're probably gonna see more of Skye here on board."
