"She {Aaliyah} was such a beautiful spirit and worked hard. Like, she delivered man! Every time I shoot, I collect Polaroid’s and tape them together to show the journey. I chased her down the hall and said, “Hey, look, will you sign this?” It’s a tradition. Every time I shoot I have people sign the Polaroid. We had talked about shooting in the Caribbean. I said, “Hey, I’m a big fan of Jamaican culture. Let’s go to Jamaica and shoot you in a bikini, in the water, here and there and on the back of a scooter with some Rasta driving and let’s tell stories man. Let’s go have some fun”. She wrote on the Polaroid, “I’ll see you in the Caribbean”. So like, every time I take off and go down there, it’s like, I remember that. I remember the moments and I feel her every time I’m in the Caribbean. "

Today In History Lauryn Hill, one of the greatest lyricist and most influential vocalist of our generation, won five Grammy Awards on this date February 24, 1999. Hill, whose debut solo album was entitled “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” received ten awards nominations.
